Windows 10 Build - 1905.2965

Hi all!
I've encountered a really bizarre UI issue (which may be hardware related) with a Windows 10 PC I put together for my daughter's birthday, and have been tearing my hair out for the past 2 weeks trying to get to the bottom of what might be causing it.
It'll only be used for school work and light gaming, and so I decided to go for an AMD APU setup. The PC was put together using all-new parts, and is specced as follows:

• AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
• AsRock A520M HDV MicroATX Motherboard
• Kingston FURY Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4
• Patriot P300 M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 256GB NVMe Drive
• Corsair CP-9020101-UK CX450M 450 W 80+ Bronze PSU
• Generic brand dual-band Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card
• DEEPCOOL MATREXX 40 3FS Mini Tower case

Everything went off without a hitch initially, and my daughter was happily playing games on it for a couple of days, but then started mentioning that games were closing themselves. I took a look for myself, and found that the Start button didn't always respond when clicked, and when it did actually open it tended to close itself again in 1-5 seconds. Browsers (Edge and Chrome) also started to either close themselves or hit an error page with a "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" message, and her games (Minecraft, Star Stable, and Roblox) all close themselves anywhere from straight away on launch up to 5 minutes of play. I've also noticed that system menus like the Windows Settings and Updates pages tend to vanish after a short while too.
The version of Win10 Home I installed was one I'd grabbed from the Windows Media Creation Tool years ago and was quite out of date, meaning it needed a number of updates once installed. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but on the further two times I reinstalled this version it felt like the Start menu issue didn't occur until after updating the OS. I have also tried downloading a fresh version of Win10 Home through the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and installing that - same issue.
My troubleshooting steps so far:

• Reinstalled Win10 Home multiple times from two different installers (one old, one fresh as of a few days ago - currently on build 1905.2965),
• Uplugged the keyboard, then the mouse, then both and tried another set (in case of cheap keyboard weirdness), plus tried switching from the board USB ports to the case ports,
• Re-seated the RAM,
• Tried one RAM stick only in slot 2, then 1, then repeated with the other stick,
• Tried a stick of DDR4 3200 RAM from another PC in either slot,
• Ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic (clear),
• Removed the Wi-Fi card, then the HD Audio header, then the case USB 2.0 and 3.1 headers,
• Updated the board's BIOS from 2.10 to 2.73, then back to 1.60 as per ASRock's CPU compatability table,
• Updated all relevant chipset and APU graphics drivers,
• Double-checked all overclocking is off in BIOS, including XMP (found after a Google search that the "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" in Chrome and Edge might be OC related),
• Tried installing Windows to a different, older PC (didn't seem to exhibit the same issue, but the system as a whole is ancient so difficult to distinguish chug from outright failure!),
• Removed the motherboard from the case and reconnected the power, HDMI, and keyboard/mouse to check for case shorts.

One thing I had observed was that the initial troubles started around the time we installed Minecraft, as it seems that logging into her Microsoft account through the MC launcher woke up the long-thought-dead beast that is Microsoft Family Safety. This horrible piece of software near crippled her older sister's PC in the past and was a PITA to remove, and on this new PC it initially limited her access to Chrome. I relaxed the settings and thought that was that, but now these new issues seem to have emerged. Is it possible that Microsoft are still screwing with her system, even after multiple re-installs of Windows?
I also noticed that every time the Start menu does open, there's a brief flash of the blue Windows loading wheel next to the mouse pointer, and then the menu vanishes again! I've tried to catch what this might be in the Task Manager but no joy - however the StartMenuExperienceHost.exe does list in the system as having experienced a crash each time.
I can now only assume it's something to do with the motherboard or CPU, but have no clue how I could test for this. I'm absolutely lost for ideas, and really getting quite dispondant now as not only is this my daughter's birthday present that's been pretty much unusable for the past couple of weeks, but also because I've built probably a couple of dozen or so PCs in my time, and not once have I come across such an elusive issue as this.
Any help or ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Hi all Ealier today a family member living in Qatar, with a qatari bank account, made a transfer to me, with my name and IBAN, found on the Monzo app. The amount was already converted to GBP from their side before the transfer was made, that is, they selected to make the transfer in GBP through their mobile banking app. It's a large sum but less than 2k. It read "Transfer successful" on their end but I'm yet to receive anything. I'd like to know what happens now.
I reached monzo support. They were of no help. Told me to email [email protected]. Did so. No response.
I now know that Wise is best to use for this kind of thing, it's just that I found an IBAN on my Monzo account, and had already had success with it for a previous transfer in Euro so I operated under the assumption that it worked for international transfers.

On Sunday, tens of millions of voters will go to the polls in Turkey, the Middle East’s largest economic and military power, just across the Black Sea from the NATO-Russia war in Ukraine. The election in this critical, strategically located country holds enormous lessons for workers and youth not only in Turkey, but around the world.
Initially, right-wing incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan faced the prospect of defeat. He was discredited by mass preventable deaths in substandard housing during the Kahramanmaraş earthquake in February. He helped NATO arm Ukraine with drones against Russia, despite the deep unpopularity of NATO in Turkey, where NATO backed bloody coups in 1960, 1971, 1980 and 2016. Moreover, waves of wildcat strikes have erupted against inflation and collapsing real wages, as well as the mass deaths caused by the official handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If today Erdoğan is poised to win reelection, it is because of the bankruptcy of the forces capitalist media falsely promote as the “left.” Pseudo-left groups internationally all applauded Erdoğan’s bourgeois rival, Kemal Kiliçdaroğlu. But Kiliçdaroğlu denounced Russia, pledged to more closely support the major NATO powers, then made a filthy election deal with far-right groups to deport millions of refugees and wage a “war on terror” targeting Turkey’s Kurdish minority.
These events expose Jacobin, a magazine linked to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) that promotes Stalinists and Kurdish-nationalists who support Kiliçdaroğlu in Turkey. Speaking for layers of the upper-middle class oriented to the Democratic Party and the union bureaucracy, it was silent on Kiliçdaroğlu’s bitter hostility to the developing movement in the working class and instead hailed Kiliçdaroğlu’s support for US imperialism.
Before the election, Jacobin published an article titled “Turkey’s Election Offers a Glimmer of Hope for the Left,” hailing the support for Kiliçdaroğlu from the alliance between the Kurdish-nationalist People’s Democratic Party’s (HDP) and the Stalinist Workers Party of Turkey’s (TİP).
“At this crucial juncture, Kiliçdaroğlu, who has a slight poll lead, certainly represents the best hope for an exhausted nation,” Jacobin wrote. Kiliçdaroğlu, it wrote, would “reintroduce the separation of powers and rule of law” and save “what remains of Turkish parliamentary democracy.” His victory, it added, would give “space for the progressive opposition to begin broadening its program of empowering local democracy, municipalities, and grassroots political organizing.”
The “local democracy” and “grassroots organizing” Jacobin had in mind was not oriented to the wildcat strikes erupting against the Turkish union bureaucracies and Erdoğan’s regime. Nor did it seek to mobilize working class opposition to the NATO-Russia war. Rather, Jacobin was calling to build in Turkey the intimate relationship between the capitalist state and pseudo-left academics, union bureaucrats and local organizers that it supports in America.
Jacobin was, in fact, quite aware of Kiliçdaroğlu’s anti-worker politics. Kiliçdaroğlu pledged to impose economic sanctions on Russia, though he subsequently dropped the issue, and massively raise interest rates, which would strangle the Turkish economy and threaten millions of jobs. Jacobin dressed this up as follows: “Kiliçdaroğlu is yet to offer a serious, systemic alternative to the neoliberal economic policies [that] have left many ordinary Turkish citizens laboring for a pittance.”
It also vaguely noted Kiliçdaroğlu’s ties to fascistic paramilitary groups with long traditions of attacking workers, Kurds and other minorities, and backing military coups, and his plans for deportations of millions of innocent Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees fleeing US-led NATO wars. It admitted that Kiliçdaroğlu “has formed the symbol of the ultranationalist, hard-right Grey Wolves paramilitary group” (a hand gesture with the forefinger and little finger extended). It noted that he is “promising to repatriate the millions of Syrian refugees currently living in his country.”
Jacobin nonetheless continued to promote Kiliçdaroğlu—despite his savage austerity policies against the workers, anti-refugee xenophobia, and ties to violent fascistic forces—as a “left.” This raises one obvious question: Why did Jacobin feel it necessary to lie so shamelessly about Kiliçdaroğlu?
As its own article makes clear, Jacobin supported Kiliçdaroğlu mainly because it viewed his victory as critical to securing Turkish support for military aggression against Russia. After noting some of what it treated as Kiliçdaroğlu’s minor political drawbacks, it added:

But overall, he is likely to pursue a more unambiguously pro-NATO, pro-Western line than Erdoğan, who has sought to play Washington against Moscow and style himself a crucial interlocutor between the two blocs. … Europe and the United States will be happy to see Turkey return to the fold — so happy, in fact, they may well reward Kiliçdaroğlu with reentry into crucial Western weapons technology, perhaps even the F-35 fighter jet program from which Erdoğan is currently excluded. Seen through the NATO prism, Syrian refugees who may suffer forcible return into Assad’s brutal prison system, and the civilians and Kurdish political, civil society, and military leaders who continue to lose their lives in Turkey’s brutal air war across northern Iraq and Syria, are disposable collateral.”

While Jacobin pointed to the cynical contempt for refugees and Kurds in Turkey underlying the NATO powers’ support for Kiliçdaroğlu, its own calculations were no less cynical. Indeed, it presented HDP-TİP support for Kiliçdaroğlu as a “glimmer of hope for the left,” even though it knew full well Kiliçdaroğlu would attack refugees, Kurds, and the working class. Indeed, it evidently hoped a Kiliçdaroğlu victory would facilitate its own propaganda lies presenting the NATO war on Russia as a struggle for Ukrainian democracy.
Certain political realities have since intruded on Jacobin’s reactionary fantasies about imposing Kiliçdaroğlu as NATO’s man in Ankara. Kiliçdaroğlu won less than 45 percent of the vote in the first round, compared to over 49 percent for Erdoğan, who polls show winning over 50 percent of the vote Sunday. Kurdish HDP voters are outraged at their party’s support for a candidate cutting deals with fascistic forces to unleash the Turkish security forces against them.
This allowed Erdoğan to criticize Kiliçdaroğlu’s aggressive anti-Russian and anti-refugee positions, allowing Erdoğan to demagogically posture as a more reasonable, even anti-imperialist or anti-fascist candidate. He mocked Kiliçdaroğlu for having “started his political journey as ‘Gandhi Kemal’ and will end it as ‘Nazi Kemal.’”
Jacobin responded with a bankrupt article by HDP official Devriş Çimen, bitterly attacking Turkish voters for refusing to vote for Kiliçdaroğlu and accusing them of racism.
“The grim situation reminds us of Turkey’s weak democratic norms and the extent of nationalist, racist, hard-right sentiments,” Çimen wrote. Hailing the HDP’s supposedly “unyielding fight for progressive, democratic values,” Çimen tried to find a silver lining to the cloud. Kiliçdaroğlu, he wrote pathetically, “was supported by the HDP and its bloc. With this help, Kılıçdaroğlu did at least manage to force a runoff against Erdoğan.”
Çimen’s article is a slander against the working class. Kiliçdaroğlu’s campaign was a miserable failure not because xenophobia and racism are deeply anchored. It is because Kiliçdaroğlu’s attempt to promote his unpopular agenda of austerity and war with appeals to xenophobia and racism failed to win support. The HDP’s decision this week to nonetheless back Kiliçdaroğlu, over the opposition of its own electorate, exposes its bankrupt bourgeois-nationalist politics.
It also exposes Jacobin, the DSA, and countless other pseudo-left groups who hailed Kiliçdaroğlu as the hero of Turkish democracy. These petty bourgeois groups are not left, but pseudo-left. They support imperialist war and the capitalist nation-state machine, acquiesce to collaboration with far-right groups on nationalist grounds, and oppose workers’ struggles now erupting outside the control of national union bureaucracies in Turkey and internationally.
The revolutionary alternative to the pseudo-left positions of Jacobin, the HDP and the TİP was advanced by the Sosyalist Eşitlik Grubu, the Turkish organization of the International Committee of the Fourth International, the world Trotskyist movement. They irreconcilably opposed both Erdoğan and Kiliçdaroğlu, as well as all the pseudo-left groups who supported him. They fought for the unification of the working class across national lines in the Middle East in an international movement against imperialist war and capitalism, and for socialism.

Hi all, I just wanted to make a quick update. Original post is here
Thanks to those who commented what they thought it might be and what might help. For those who haven't seen my comments, I plan to take him to a different vet and ask for further testing and to see if allergy meds will help (that way it can be prescribed if needed).
I want to answer some questions for those that didn't see some of my other responses or didn't understand my original post. My dog is turning 2 in July and this happens everyday (multiple times a day).
What I did to try figure it out: I originally took him back to the shelter to see if they knew (they had their own vet clinic). they stated kennel cough, but treatment did nothing. I then went to a different vet right after who stated that its just allergies from him "eating grass" and sticking his snout into the ground. He doesn't eat grass and I told him that, but he stated it's likely from his nose being so close to the ground. I decided to go to a different one in March I took him to that vet and she said that she didn't know, but thought it was just allergies. HW test was done and came back negative. No other test was completed.
Again, I plan on taking him to a vet and bringing up some suggestions offered from the original post and requesting further testing to see if that is the next best step for him.

As B'arthon cleared the tree line, the only surprise was that no surprise awaited him. His force was lined up and ready for battle, and standing opposite of them was the enemy army, as though this was just another battle before two villages, albeit villages whose warrior populations exceeded the total population of even the largest villages he was aware of. But still, where was the misdirection? Where was the impossible choice between chasing two prey to split his army? Where were Jack and S'haar?
As he looked over the front lines of his enemy, B'arthon had expected to see Jack and S'haar front and center. That was where the fighting would be most fierce, and it was the most critical part of any battle line, so he'd expected only their best to try and punch through his line in an attempt to compensate for their lesser numbers. But while some of the warriors at the front seemed to be wearing some sort of odd armor, there was no sign of S'haar, Jack, the wolgen, or Jack's sister Angela.
B'arthon furrowed his brows in thought. Could they have set this whole thing up as a distraction, only to turn tail and run? It would be wise. Of course, as a small group with that kind of power, they could easily punch through his rearguard holding the end of the valley and disappear into the wilderness, but that just didn't fit with anything he knew about that group. That just meant a surprise was still coming, and he had a few suspicions about where it might come from...
Ultimately, it didn't matter at the moment. The noble could spend several days trying to work out what impossible idea they had here now, but all that would accomplish is to give them more time to think up more convoluted plans. It was better to break the backbone of their resistance here and now. He had the advantage in numbers and quality of fighters. Wasting time and resources trying to outthink that insane human would only give Jack more power than he already possessed.
But first, he had one other obligation. In any battle where one side had clear superiority over the other, it is considered proper for the stronger side to offer surrender to the weaker. While he suspected the difference in power wasn't quite as stark as it appeared, he had to do this right, to keep up appearances in front of his own people as much as anything honor demanded. With that in mind, B'arthon stepped forward with an honor guard at his side. Then, walking nearly to the center between the battle lines, he waited. Finally, after a few moments, a delegation from the opposition approached. It seemed to be made up of mostly hill people, with only one familiar face in the lot, To'brel.

To'brel was nervous. He was definitely the youngest argu'n in this group. Even though his title of Lord technically made him equal with everyone present, he felt he didn't belong. These were all experienced leaders representing their tribes and villages. He'd never ruled a single day as Lord, and moreover, if any of his "subjects" were on this battlefield at all, they were fighting for the opposition. But despite that, both S'haar and Jack had insisted that he take up this role, representing the interests of the Dragon's Outpost in their absence. As if he was somehow qualified to do so!
Finally, their delegation reached a position reasonably close to B'arthon's and stopped. They were well within talking range, so long as both sides spoke loudly. To'brel had no idea what to say or do, but evidently, B'arthon didn't feel the same. The older noble raised his voice and issued his demands clearly and simply. "Surrender now, and everyone present shall be given a home and a job within the new A'ngles Empire! There is no need to waste blood or iron on this battlefield!"
There was some mumbling from the various chiefs before one of them shouted back. "If you don't want to waste blood or iron, return to your valley and leave us in peace!"
This was going about like To'brel had expected. Pretty soon, they'd return to their sides without the young noble having said a word. He really served no purpose here, after all...
For his part, B'arthon seemed to consider the chief's words before answering. "I'm willing to take my army and return to our valley, so long as you surrender the members of the Dragon's Outpost to us first! Of course, Jack and S'haar must be included!" That was unexpected...
The chiefs immediately looked at To'brel, who shrunk in on himself before they began speaking among each other in hushed tones. While To'brel couldn't make out everything they were saying, it was clear what the general consensus was now that they'd seen the army opposing them. This was too good an opportunity to pass up. Looking at it from their side, To'brel couldn't fault their logic either. This fight really did look hopeless.
Now To'brel's mind was racing. This is why he was here, to represent the interests of the Dragon's outpost. If he didn't speak up now, they'd be thrown to the enemy with no chance of any of Jack's magics or schemes to save the day. But what could he say? Could he appeal to the other chiefs' sense of honor? Sure, they might feel shame at abandoning their allies here and now, but they had the survival of their very people to think of. How many villages would be slaughtered to extinction today if they didn't betray this small group of outsiders who'd wandered into their midst and demanded this alliance? No, if he was going to close this fissure between everyone and convince them all to stand and fight, he had to do so in a way that appealed to their self-interests as individuals and as chiefs.
Looking back to B'arthon, To'brel remembered the last time he'd stood close to the noble with two armies on either side of them and the words he'd shared then. "Hope you learn fast, kid. You won't get a second chance." It was as accurate today as it had been then. B'arthon had a way with words. In fact, he was often very precise about how he chose his words. Maybe that was what the younger noble had to focus on. What exactly did he say, and what didn't he say... He said he'd take his army and leave...but then what?
Taking a deep breath, To'brel spoke up for the first time, speaking to B'arthon but more aware of the impact his words might have on the chiefs at his side. "That is quite the generous offer, my Lord. We of the Dragon's Outpost want to avoid the waste of blood most of all and will accept your terms, so long as both Lord A'ngles and yourself swear a blood oath today, here in front of both armies, that you will leave peacefully, and never return to the mountains to kill or subject these people while either of you lives!"
There was a moment of silence as everyone processed what he just said and what B'arthon hadn't said. B'arthon had offered to withdraw his army, but for how long? They could come back in a year or two, and now the tribes would be in the same situation, but without the aid of the Dragon's Outpost and all their weapons, warriors, and plans. They'd be on their own, and as bad as their odds are right now, the odds would be considerably worse in the future. The tribes wouldn't be saving themselves. They'd only be delaying the inevitable. Their only possible salvation lay in this battle, here and now. But of course, B'arthon could completely unravel To'brel's hasty little plan by agreeing to his terms... The field became silent as everyone waited for B'arthon's answer.
After several moments, during which To'brel had plenty of time to have second, third, fourth, and fifth thoughts on his choice of words, B'arthon finally answered, his voice conveying annoyance, exhaustion, and something else the younger male couldn't quite place. "You've grown, Lord To'brel. Those were wise words you just chose. But, unfortunately, I must refuse. All I am offering is to leave the hills for now. We cannot swear an oath that we'll never return because we cannot know what the future holds or if the hill people won't take advantage of such a pledge. So I make my offer again, give us the survivors of Dragon's Outpost, and we'll leave. Any other offer short of that will be met with war!"
The chiefs had stopped speaking amongst each other. The first who had spoken looked at the rest, then To'brel, before stepping forward and speaking. "Then you leave us no other option. Bring your armies! You will not find us lacking teeth or claws to answer!"
With that, their delegation broke away, returning to their lines, leaving To'brel wondering if any of that really just happened or if he'd simply dreamt it all...

As Jack sat there waiting, he couldn't help but wonder what was happening. It irked him not to be present to hear what was being said, even though it would have completely given away the position of his flanking force when he ran to the forest instead of joining the front line.
Of course, Lon'thul was all grins. "I can't wait to charge out there and catch them in the backsides! Lord A'ngles will never know what hit him!"
Jack frowned. "I doubt it'll go that smoothly. They may not have my historical knowledge, but it hardly takes a genius to suspect a flanking maneuver, and he's already going to be suspicious when there's no sign of S'haar or myself on the front line."
Lon'thul shrugged. "Yeah, but you've got me, the hunter extraordinaire, Grim and his pack, led by yourself and Em'brel," The hunter nodded to the aforementioned female, who was more focused on double-checking her gear than the hunter's blathering. "your sister, the "metal goddess," not to mention seventy-five of the best hunters every tribe had to offer! We'll move faster and hit harder than anything they can bring to bear!"
Jack's frown deepened as he looked at the all-too-eager hunter. "Don't go believing your own stories about yourself. Overconfidence kills more soldiers than enemy spears. And yeah, we'll hit hard, but we also can't afford to get bogged down. In a war of attrition, they win on numbers and manpower alone. So our plan has to go off nearly perfectly, and my people have a saying about the best-laid plans of mice and men."
Lon'thul grinned again. "Well, the good news is if I'm right, I get to hold it over you as long as we live! If you're right, well, I suppose you'll also get to hold it over me as long as we live, but in your case, you'll have to make it quick!"
Jack couldn't help himself. That last line was so absurd that he couldn't help but close his eyes and chuckle. But closing his eyes was a mistake. He was suddenly taken by a vision of the young argu'n whose death he'd caused so very long ago. What had happened to that Jack? The one who convulsed and vomited after the first time he'd killed someone in self-defense. The one who obsessed about every life he took? Now he was leading armies into battle, and thousands would likely be dead at the end of the day.
Looking back, it was hard to say if he should have done anything differently. It all seemed so necessary, even now. And yet, despite the necessity of it all, he wondered if maybe surrendering to A'ngles wouldn't have been better. Maybe the necessary thing and the right thing weren't the same. Did he really have any right to put the lives and happiness of his family and friends over the safety of the thousands waiting for battle?
The only thing Jack knew for sure was that kid wasn't the only one who'd died back then. The part of Jack that had been more innocent and hopeful also died. He'd been a better man. He wondered if S'haar mourned that Jack as well. Of course, it was just his imagination, but for the briefest moments, he thought he heard her whisper. "It's too late for regrets. You knew this was where it might lead." The feeling was so strong. It felt like she had ahold of his arm...
That was when an actual grip on his arm snapped Jack back to the present. Standing next to him, looking up with evident concern, was Em'brel. She didn't say anything but smiled sadly and squeezed his arm again. Jack smiled back in a way he hoped alleviated her concern, but he suspected did little more than show his own anxiety as he patted her hand. Though he couldn't help but marvel at how fierce the claws on that hand had become. When had the little girl he'd saved from the raiders become such a strong woman? What kind of a guardian was he that he'd allowed her to be exposed to so much trauma? She was even about to fight in a massive battle to determine this world's future!
That was when Anglea spoke up out of nowhere. "YEAH! WAY TO GO TO'BREL!"
That snapped Jack out of his musings as he and everyone else turned to Angela. Then, finally, Jack asked the question on all their minds. "What in the world..?"
Anglea's smirk came across in her voice. "Our boy went and grew up on us when no one was looking! He just saved the day... Or maybe doomed us all. I suppose it depends on how things turn out."
That only confused Jack more, and he opened his mouth to ask more questions when Em'brel squeezed his arm again. "He's fighting this battle in his way. It's about time for us to start fighting it in ours."
Looking around at the hunters looking at the group of them, he nodded, turning to Lon'thul. "Let's get into position. As soon as the front lines clash, we need to move fast!"

As B'arthon returned to his lines, his father was there to meet him. "No sudden bouts of sanity on their part?"
The younger noble didn't even bother to acknowledge the attempted joke as he turned to survey the battle lines. He squinted, trying to discern any hidden pitfalls or ambushes one last time but still coming up blank. They didn't actually think a few ranged weapons would be enough to turn the tide of battle, did they?
Lord A'ngles seemed to be analyzing the enemy as well. "Apparently, they're holding the middle of their battle line with workers, not warriors or guards. They have those ranged weapons, but according to what we've seen, they won't be able to get off more than two shots before we reach their lines. With your new invention, they'll be lucky to get one hundred casualties at worst. But what of that charred-looking land behind them? What purpose does that serve?"
B'arthon looked at the spot his father was talking about and frowned. "That's obviously the trees they burned to draw us here. If it was in front of their battle line, I'd suspect it was filled with traps of some sort, but it's to their back. Perhaps, they were just trying to clear space for the fight? Maybe they think the uncertain footing will make their people less likely to retreat through it? Either way, with it behind them, I don't see it playing a significant role in the battle unless things go very badly for them, and I don't see Jack as the kind who would sacrifice that many lives just for a simple pit trap..."
A'ngless looked around. "Speaking of Jack and that terrifying mate of his, and the metal goddess for that matter, I don't see them anywhere. Any thoughts?"
B'arthon frowned as he looked off into the trees behind the enemy. "My guess is they are waiting in the forest to loop around once the battle begins to try and flank our army or maybe come for you and me specifically. Based on the number of people in the battle line and our intel on the number of capable people they had, I doubt the flanking force could number much more than fifty, maybe a hundred if they have some children actually filling out the ranks to make it look like so many aren't missing."
Looking at his own army, B'arthon continued. "I'll take two hundred of our own men to counter them. That'll leave you with an honor guard of over a hundred should they sneak past me, in which case you'd just have to hold them long enough for me to flank their flank. If you're not too afraid of taking that kind of risk, old man."
A'ngles made a face and leaned on his cane. "I'll let that one slide because of everything going on, but please, not in front of the guards, my son. And yes, that'll be fine. You've proven your intuition multiple times already. So I'll trust in it today."
B'arthon returned his attention to the battle lines. "Still, it would make sense for Jack and even his sister to flank us, but I would expect S'haar to be leading front and center. It bothers me that she's nowhere to be seen. I feel like they still have another hidden ambush on this hunt..."
A'ngles raised an eye ridge. "Should we delay the attack then?"
B'arthon shook his head. "No. Give them too much time, and they'll only strike when our men need rest or food. Our best bet is not to overthink this and simply hit the vulnerability they've shown. Put our best warriors front and center and try to break their lines in two. Once that happens, no flanking maneuver they might try and pull off will have any effect on the outcome of the battle."
The older noble nodded. "Very well. And you're confident you should go with the counter flank and not remain in charge of the main battle line?"
B'arthon shook his head once again. "No. I'm convinced Jack will be on the flank. The speed of his mount makes him optimal for that, and he'll probably have a bodyguard of hunters and others who can move quickly through the trees with him. If there's going to be any trickery, it'll come from that human, and I want to be on hand to deal with it! Don't worry. I won't be fighting front and center. I've got trained warriors for that. I just want to keep my eyes on the human, is all."
A'ngles nodded. "Very well. It seems you've thought this through. I support your plan. Fight well, my son!"
As he looked back at his aging adoptive father, B'arthon felt a pang of concern for the older male's well-being for the first time since the beginning of their partnership. Usually, he just saw him as a useful ally and hadn't ever really considered him as family, despite the terms they used for each other in public. However, something felt different this time, leaving the younger noble disquieted. "You too...father."

I work as a night audit for a semi-reputable hotel. There are bigger hotels out there, but I am happy where I am. As a night audit, other shifts tend to leave many tasks for you to perform because they are overwhelmed checking guests in and fielding numerous calls for reservations. The management allows me to do my job without being micro-managed all the time, which is something that can be very common in this industry. My co-workers do their job and show up on time. If something comes up, they always call me to let me know they will be a few hours late. When they call out sick every few days, the General Manager encourages me to fill in so that I have the opportunity for extra hours. I do not feel as if I am being taken advantage of because the opportunity for more responsibilities occurs every shift. I am just happy to be working at a place that appreciates you. Though, my life sometimes feels as if something is missing. I am not sure if it is love that I am seeking or some other form of excitement.
Due to the stress of this job, I often find myself stopping by the liquor store on my way home or hanging out at a bar on the two or three nights off I get during the month. One night I stopped by a local bar to have a few drinks and to not have to worry about the stress that comes with my job. The cold amber colored liquid is something that can instantly remove the stress from my mind. As I was leaving, I felt as if something was behind me. Maybe I was being watched. Maybe I was being followed. I could not accurately place that feeling that was going on in the back of my mind. I have never felt something like this before. As I turned around to observe my surroundings, nothing was ever out of place.
Usually, I would stop at the store to grab a bottle of Kettle One, but I had some left over from a few weeks ago. Just the thought of having a nice glass or two of smooth Vodka made my mouth water. I wouldn’t say I am an alcoholic but without having many friends there is not much else that I look forward to in my life than something that allows me to not think about the little things that always happen.
I walk into my two-bedroom apartment on the first floor and get settled in. Grabbing a glass and one cube of ice before I flop down in my recliner to read. I found a new sub-reddit that allows my mind to wonder with the many stories of unusual experiences. Many seem far-fetched but you can never truly know what is real and what is exaggerated. This allows me to appreciate my life a little better knowing that things could be worse. There are so many situations that are written that I could never fathom, and it makes me happy that my life is simple. I have a job, a place to live, and some extra money to spend from time to time.
Just as I found a great title to read, I hear a noise that sounds like a door or cabinet slowly creaking open. As my curiosity gets the best of me, I walk back into my kitchen. My mind begins to anticipate every single outcome that could explain what the noise was. As expected, it was nothing other than the cabinet to my whiskey glasses slowly closing. A thought comes across my mind that I am almost certain that I closed the cabinet, but I regress and start to move back to the living room. Due to my mind staying stuck on this subject, I do not notice that my front door is no longer closed.
I suddenly have the urge to use the bathroom and expel some of the beer I had earlier. As I walk into the bathroom and turn on the light, I look into the mirror and see him behind me. A dark figure that is easily identified as a man in a mask. He reaches for my shoulder and turns me around. My eyes contacted his. I could see that something was off. It appeared as if these eyes had a thirst. A thirst that could only be quenched with blood. Caught by the surprise I did not know what to do. It is as if during my fight or flight response, my body just shut down. The man then pulled out a knife and began to thrust it towards by abdomen. This is when my brain finally decided to regroup and allow me to have control over my legs. I slowly moved to my left side, straddling the vanity in front of my toilet. This caused the man to unexpectedly stumble forward due to the anticipation he had of the knife entering my body to stop his forward movement. His knees buckled as they collided with the bathtub and caused him to drop the knife as he rolled into it. A loud crack sound occurred as the tile tub surround abruptly stopped him. He grunted and put one hand on his head, removing the mask from his face. This showed blood slowly trickling down his forehead. The thirst in his eyes was so focused on me that he was not aware that he was no longer holding the weapon in his hands.
I moved forward and picked up the knife. This is when he finally had the realization that he was no longer in control, but that did not stop him. His body arched over as he grabbed for my sweater to pull me closer as I began to stand up. Without a second thought I knew it was him or me. He was not going to stop. He was not going to retreat to where he came from. So, I had no choice and plunged the knife deep into his neck. The viscous crimson red blood slung from the wound right across my mouth, on the wall, and the floor. It seemed as if it would not stop even though it had only been a matter of seconds. Everything that happened appeared to slow to a point as if time ceased to exist. The intruder immediately collapsed inside of the tub at this point, ripping my shower curtain with him. Each rung of the shower curtain made an audible snap as it slowly raveled down.
Once his movement was no more, my mind recollected what was going on and I ran out of the room to call the police. I felt relieved when they arrived in a matter of minutes. I have always read these stories about the police taking a long amount of time in emergencies. When the police responded I was in front of my apartment in shambles. My heart was beating a mile a minute at this point, and nothing made sense. I could not comprehend what had just happened. Who was this man and why did he choose me. How did he enter my home and why was he trying to kill me. The police officers had to repeat each question a thousand times for me to realize that something was said. A paramedic then wrapped a blanket around my shoulders. The warmth of the blanket allowed me to realize that it was over and that I needed to breathe to regain my composure.
After giving my statement to the police and EMS removing, the now deceased man from my apartment, I walked into the bathroom for a sense of understanding what just happened. That was when I saw it. An antique gold necklace with a dark royal purple amethyst stone. The stone appeared to slightly glow, but it must have been the reflection of the bathroom light and was just waiting for it to be held. The sight of this stone caused me to become mesmerized as I held it in my hands. I do not understand what was coming over me at this time. Before I knew it, I was clasping the lobster claw around my neck. As soon as it was locked into place, something felt different. Everything that just happened felt… Everything felt right. I tried to compel myself that this entire situation was not normal, and no one should experience what I just did. A normal person should not have to know how it feels to take someone’s life. A normal person should not feel the thrill that I am currently experiencing from the way the knife felt as it plunged into the soft tissue of his neck. Slowly nicking his trachea. Causing his blood to be expelled from his body and across my face. The soothing warmth. The salty copper taste across the top of my tongue.
A realization that my life would no longer be mundane and that this thrill was not going to be a once in a lifetime experience. Well… At least not for me.

Long post incoming! Short version is a HUGE thank you to the folks at SBG Drayton for putting on an amazing event this weekend for kids and adults! As a competitor, coach, participant in the superfights and a parent to 2 young guys in the tournament just an amazing job across the board for the organizers, refs, scorekeepers and all other volunteers!
Into the long part! SBG Drayton put on a tournament this weekend. Last year my boys and daughter attended and had an ABSOLUTE blast! It was their first tournament after training just under a year! The tournament was kids only, so I went as a parent to my kids and a coach to about a dozen other kids from our gym. It was awesome!!!
This year was BIGGER and BETTER! The spread the event over 2 days and added adult brackets AND superfights!
I signed up for the purple belt gi bracket and my 2 boys signed up for gi and no gi. The event took place over 2 days, Saturday was all the gi events during the day, superfights in the evening. Sunday was the no gi.
The event started on time and as usual the brackets were a bit hectic (couple no shows etc made em juggle some things) but overall it was great! A training partner of mine was signed up for a 3 way superfight (1 gi match, 1 no gi match) but was injured a week prior and had to pull out. He asked I fill in for him, and as I'm an idiot I said yes! lol.
The day was great and the matches all seemed very well planned out. The brackets were competitive and the kids had a blast!
The super fight was amazing. So happy to be part of something like that. They had such a sweet setup! Spectators, walkout songs... The whole thing was great.
There were a couple decisions that the refs made that I know bother some people (couple went against me and our kids) but honestly they did an amazing job. I've ref'd before, so I know how stressful and thankless it can be! They did an amazing job, and even if I didn't necessarily agree with their calls, there was nothing to complain about AT ALL.

Dimmy: Hello, we’ve all been sick since yesterday! But we also develop a severe allergic reaction if we stay home! So Superspreader Kate ran outside in her pajamas to have a tea party with the ducks at the park then we plopped her back in bed for a nap in her dirty pajamas, but she woke up soon after because she’s sick and pooped her pajamas. Why get a clean outfit out now, when I can just take her pajama pants off and continue about our day! Beady Kate was upset so I gave her a pack of 36 cheap bracelets from Amazon to distract her. I’ll link ‘em up for you even though they’re labeled as a choking hazard for kids under three! I dunno know what happened to the last pack of 36 I gave her. I guess she swallowed all of the beads from those! Sniffles Kate went back outside in her diaper and pajama top. I hate wearing pants too so I wore my hot dog jeans which is the next best thing to no pants! I showed Pantsless Kate how to paint with water since we banned sidewalk chalk after she colored our walls blue. Let’s paint our ABCs!

Dimmy: So anyway even though I’m super sick I went to Mindy McKnight’s bath and body launch to spread my germs because it was at a hamam and you all know from my time in Morocco, I love a good hamam! Mindy and I took a photo with our mouths hanging open and faces pressed together so….. hope one of your new bath products is an immune booster, Mindy! Good luck not getting sick!
Meanwhile Scooter Kate had fun skiing for donuts in her clogs, riding her scooter and learning to catch a football.
Wednesday
Kimmy took the day off stories without explanation and was nowhere to be found. Could she be feeling poorly? “Working?” Taking multiple pregnancy tests? Shopping for more ripped-knee jeans?
The disheveled moppet and her tax-challenged handler surfaced on stories at Turtle Creek Lane. Smartie Kate had gone over there to teach McKenna Kate how to spell, and correct the errors on her summer bucket list. As a reward for tutoring MK, the fridge troll gave Stevie Clog an ice cream cone, but the sugar police caught her red-handed. Not to be bullied for her sweet treat, Stevie Kate tightened her grip on the cone and licked away defiantly as Minnie scolded her. As punishment, Jen made her cut up a huge plate full of raw veggies and eat them. Then Stevie Swan visited Swannie Kate and taught Jen how to read, and finished her afternoon at TCL by taking a nap with one of her favorites, Uncle Sam.
Thursday
Dimmy: CAN YOU SAY GOOD MORNING?
Chef Kate: Good morning mommy here’s your breakfast: two pieces of bacon and a pancake served with a side of my snot syrup. Zero calorie play food, since we all know you never eat any real breakfast! You intermittent fast for 1100 hours and then break your fast with HLTH code powder and whipped cream!
Dummy is crowdsourcing Twitter and Instagram for suggestions on how to get SK to stop whining as the Contentot was put in timeout twice today.
Dimmy told everyone that taking your toddler to Costco is a fun idea because they can destroy everything in the store instead of your house. She and Jen piled Shopping Cart Kate high with Memorial Day weekend groceries for their upcoming trip to the lake house. Costco Kate was not amused by the Tide on her toes and snot on her nose.
Dimmy shilled CVS ExtraBucks and then it was time for Cartwheel Kate to hit the gym and In-N-Out. Stevie Kate and Dummy enjoyed burgers with buns and Dimmy got to lick the wrappers. Unclear if she has anything else, as she placed a movie recommendation box strategically over the spot where her dinner should be.
Friday
Dummy said he’s already listened to two parenting books at 4X speed and has detailed the perfect six step plan on how to get Stevie Kate to stop whining, which involves gossiping in front of her and some other weird shit. Now if only he could find the perfect six step plan on how to stop being an asshole.
Shoeless Kate managed not to lose any toes racing around in her little car, feet flying across the pavement. She pretended her baby doll was Shilly Lilly and followed Tiffany’s safety guidelines for how to treat a newborn, although everyone agreed she was gentler with her doll than Tiffany is with Chilly, as the doll was properly dressed and only flew out of the car and hit the pavement once.
Then it was time to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend at Possum Kingdom. The Dummies packed up their car by grabbing armfuls of all the junk in their house and shoving it into their car, filling up every square inch to the top. Despite not being able to see out the car windows, Dummy drove the overstuffed hail-dented junk mobile to the lake house without getting in an accident. On the way Dimmy gave us an update on Period Watch 2023 as if any of us care. She’s now eight days late and still churning out negative pregnancy tests.
The Dummies were the first of the Turtles to arrive at the lake house. The fridge troll collapsed on the new Love Sac sofa with his shoes on for a nap while Feral Kate was ready to go out on the boat but alas the Senior Turtles weren’t due to arrive until the next day.
Saturday
Goooood moooorning… Hiiiiiii trilled the shrill one, in her screechiest greeting of the week as she located her troll of a husband and diaper-clad tot in The Ranch at Possum Kingdom’s neighborhood pool. She changed the Contentot into a swim diaper but didn’t bother dressing her in a swimsuit. After SK’s Elsa and Anna dolls lemming-jumped to their deaths off the waterfall feature with an assist from Dummy, it was time to tour the $5 million lake house the Senior Turtles just purchased to add to their growing portfolio of properties, which will soon fill up an entire Monopoly board. Entitled Kate, finally clothed in a swim cover-up, was bored with the new home tour (another day, another mansion, am I right?) so the troll played hide and seek with her throughout the cavernous rooms. Then Dimmy bribed Stevie Carb with white bread if she’d pretend to love her new cousin and gaze at her sweetly, which worked like a charm. The Contentot gleefully held slices of white bread in each grubby paw on the expensive brand new white Lovesac sofa and crouched next to Shilly. Then Stevie Kate went out on the boat and had a grand time since she got fed more bread there and didn’t even have to waterski for content and donuts. Channeling her inner Geico commercial piggy, she gleefully cried weeeeeeeeee the whole way home.

Hey everyone,
First off, a big shout out to every one of you as we've hit a significant milestone - we now have 1,000 members on this subreddit! It's been amazing to witness your enthusiasm, particularly during times when I haven't been as active as I'd like. Seeing you all making the most of the API, spreading the word, and creating some truly awesome stuff has been nothing short of inspiring. So, a massive welcome to all our newbies and a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you!
However, today's update isn't all sunshine and roses. Our dear friend AmputatorBot has hung up its hat on Twitter. The cause? Twitter's recent restructuring of their API, which has not only introduced a paywall, but also rendered our system unusable. On March 14th 2023, after contributing 2.5 years and an impressive 9,438 tweets to the platform, our Twitter-based bot began its eternal sleep.
Before we get into the details, here's the farewell note we received from Twitter's support:

It may seem tempting to simply opt for the free package, but this comes with its own share of limitations - including rate-limiting and the daunting task of rebuilding the bot for the new API. Upon reflection, I've decided against it. The Twitter-based bot saw limited use, and I'd rather dedicate my time and efforts to the backlog of issues (I know, I've been slack with those recently - apologies!) rather than commit to a platform which is.. 2023 Twitter..
On a brighter note, did you know that since November 2021, Twitter has stopped redirecting users to AMP pages on Android/iOS? We can take that as a small victory!
So, in a nutshell: AmputatorBot's presence on Twitter is no more, and I have no plans to resuscitate it. But fear not! AmputatorBot is alive and well on other platforms, so we've still got plenty to be excited about.

Saw a lot of fun questions on the sub today and wanted to pose my own. I've been playing the recent Spider-man game, and something I love about it is that as you defeat each of the antagonists and their goons, the new enemies that roll in will change the state of the city to reflect what they're doing.
They'll do things like set up ambushes around the city, build structures around to mess with you, and just in general you feel like the threat of these enemies affects more than just you and the story missions.
Some of the ones I can think off the top of my head that also did this are Final Fantasy 6, Infamous, Prototype (might be a pattern here), and even things like Demon's Souls where your deaths influence the type of special enemies that spawn.

So I’m sure you have probably seen my post sometime in the last few months. I have been searching for my person and have been posting here hoping I might get lucky and find them. So far that hasn’t happened but I’m going to keep on searching. What I’ve learned is the majority of people that respond to my post don’t actually read the post so I’m going to move some things around to hopefully cut down on the amount of messages coming in.
I don’t really have a type. What’s important to me is the connection. I do have a few deal breakers though so I’m putting them at the top so hopefully more people read them before sending me a message. I’m not interested in women with kids regardless of their age. It’s nothing personal, just a preference. I’m also not interested in a long distance relationship. Anything further than 2 hours from Chicago is not realistic for me. Please be at least 30 years old. Any younger than that and it makes me feel creepy. I have a weakness for kind eyes, nice skin/hair and a nice round bottom.

So I’m currently 22 and have had a credit card since I turned 18 I currently have 7 credit cards :Amazon prime visa, BOFA cash rewards, Capital one quick silver, Apple Card and chase trifecta with the sapphire card.
When I first started with my credit cards I was really bad at not overspending on my cards and treating them as “cash”. So I ended up getting a couple hundred dollars of debt over some months and wanted to get better at using CCs. I didn’t like the idea of having a to make sure I had the money to pay off my bills at the end of each cards paying period.
Now I know there’s people who use spread sheets or other ways to keep track of their spending so that they don’t go over their normal spending but I did it a different way.
So basically I opened a capital one checking account linked to a zelle account that was solely used to receive zelle payments that were equal to each card transaction. For example, if I would spend $35 at target I would immediately zelle my CO checking account from my main chase checking that exact amount and write in the memo what the purchase for and date “Target 0101” that checking account was set up to automatically pay the statement balance of each CC.
This is way the money immediately left my main checking account and I didn’t have to worry about keeping track of everything. I later implemented a sort of legend when it came to zelling the CO checking account. I would always round up to the nearest dollar and zelle payments ending with .00 were the FU, .01 SP, .02 Apple Card etc. this was just in case I needed to double check if I forgot to zelle and that way I could easily make out what the zelle was for with out having to click on the transaction.
I have been doing this for over a year and I have not missed a payment or paid interest on any of my cards. I know it’s a weird way to keep track of anything and is most likely not the best, but I wanted to share because it works for me!

Otherwise, it’s pretty simple, I have a script that pulls the top three comments every week, and I run them through a series of prompts in order to build a full podcast script. Then I use Eleven Labs to generate the voice. I stitch it all together with some music using Python, and then publish it using Buzzsprout. I’m currently using GPT-4 to run the prompts.

I’m flying frontier tomorrow at 12:14 pm. Where I am currently it is 6pm. Per their website and my past experience, you should be able to check in within 24 hrs of the flight time. I’ve tried multiple times to check in and it keeps saying the check in hasn’t opened yet. I’ve triple checked my flight date and time to make sure I didn’t accidentally book for the right day and they’re correct. Has anyone else experienced this?
I checked in on Friday for my Saturday flight just fine.
