I just finished building my first PC. As if building the thing wasn’t stressful enough for me, it can’t find any network connection upon booting it up. I restarted the PC, restarted my Wi-Fi, and even have an Ethernet plugged in. Would appreciate any suggestions. I have an MSI Mag Z790 Edge WiFi motherboard. Do I need to download drivers for it first? The manual suggests doing the drivers after installing Windows. Obviously can’t do that though when it can’t find a network

I have a TracFone. This one or rather this year I've had the most problems with. My main concern is even with the mobile data turned on, I can't use the internet for navigation. I leave the apartment and it drops the WiFi and can't connect anywhere. And also, it drops calls or won't make them at all when I'm outside the apartment. More problems have occurred,but these are the most concerning issues. Is this normal? I'm trying to avoid being trapped in the xxx amount of dollars a month on a plan again. I've had Alltel,Sprint,Verizon and more over the years ...I've just been trying to save money. But does your TracFone have the ability to navigate for you while driving? And can you make and hold calls outside of your home? I'm just worried I'm going to get lost somewhere and/or be stranded on the side of the road and won't be able to call anyone. Thanks

Hey guys. I have been dealing with really slow download speeds specifically to my PC. It’s a custom PC with an TP-Link Archer T6E. It’s a WiFi 5 PCIE wireless adapter. I got it in 2019 I believe and it used to download at over 100 megabit speeds and would download games and updates at around 16 MB/s or more. However it has slowed over time and I am getting single digit megabit download speeds and game downloads are in the KB/s range. The network is not the problem, I can get 200-300 megabit downloads on my iPhone in the same position, there are no other programs hogging bandwidth according to task manager, and updating drivers didn’t help either. When I updated my drivers, I briefly was able to get 300 megabit downloads before it went back down to the slow speeds I have been dealing with. According to windows I am getting a weak connection but that is not a problem for my phone in the same spot. I do not know what is going on and I would like to avoid buying a new adapter or taking the PC to a professional, but this is completely unacceptable given that I study online.

• I want something that can play VR, ie valve index, at decent settings. Been a long time since I wrote anything here. I'm 30, started drinking at about 16. If I let myself, I would drink every day. Late morning - mid evening, lot of spirits and lot of strong 6%+ beer. But I'll chase a half day of drinking with a good, big home cooked meal and some reefer. I'm in bed early, and I get up about half 6, do my stretching, get my light calisthenics and my lifting done, good protein full breakfast, take the dog on a light trek, home, make a few phone calls. Then at 10am ish, if I want it, and I allow it, I'll open a bottle, and then I'm pretty much flat out drinking until about 6pm. By 7pm it's big dinner o'clock, bit of weed, by 10pm I'm in bed, asleep or if not I'm horizontal until 6ish, rinse and repeat. I'm not out anymore getting into fights or stealing. Getting distraught or overly emotional. I don't have a job on right now, but that's the nature of my trade more than my inability/ unwillingness to work. I completely understand the physical and mental negative effects of long term alcohol consumption. And I'm ok to just not drink some days, I didn't today, and I'm ok, been thinking a bit more than I'd like, but I'm not climbing the walls. I'm struggling right now to imagine my life without the long term crutch. I know, right now this month, I'm not ready, and I'm not gonna sweat it. If I want a drink tomorrow I'll drink, if I don't, I won't. I do want to experience long term sobriety one day, I've only ever been forced into it, and I didn't enjoy it.
Explanation of my relationship w alcohol to one side... And without trying to get too into the actual meat of it, I've been through some heavy shit over the last 30 years, things that, I go back and forth with believing, were out of my control ((If I tried harder to be present, they would have 100% been within my control)). It's seeing my people's death, unnecessary death, heavy drugs, overdoses, the fallout of people I love being raped, sexually exploited, not knowing who did what and where and all that, being too slow or too selfish or too naive to help people in time, long term grief and guilt. I have no idea if the things I've been thru and seen are more damaging than what most people go thru, or if it's just that most people don't know what it's like to go thru that shit. I am ok with my past, I don't live back there I live here, I'm at relative peace with a lot of really dark and cumbersome shit. I would give my life in a heartbeat If it could bring certain people back or if it meant certain others didn't have to go thru shit they went thru, or even just to relieve the pain of the people I love. But that's life, and that's why I drink. It helps me to remember to keep my head up and put one foot in front of the other, to be there for the people who are left, all that shit. It helps me to be happy and busy and present. That's not to say it's the one and only way I can be those things, and that's certainly not to say I plan to remain drinking to ensure some level of acceptance, but that's where I'm at right now, I understand the good it does me and I understand the bad it does me. I don't waste time beating myself up.

Today, while driving back from our Memorial Day weekend vacation, my wife told me that she wanted to stop for coffee, since she was feeling tired. I wanted a cup, too, and I needed to stretch my legs anyway, so we pulled off at the next exit and went to a café. After I used the restroom and my wife got her coffee, we got back in the car and kept driving. About five miles from where we had exited, there was a sign which read "Rest area 1 mile. Next rest area 100 miles." My wife was looking out the window and enjoying the scenery, and she was waiting for her coffee to cool down anyway, so I didn't think she had drunk much.
Well, we passed the rest area and not two minutes later, she told me that she needed to use the restroom. I couldn't believe it. I asked her if she was serious, and she said that she was. This particular stretch of interstate is quite rural, so there aren't many exits. Plus, even if there were and we could turn around, the rest area was only on our side of the road. There wasn't one on the other side. I told her that we had just passed a rest area and said that there was even a sign. My wife told me that she missed it. I flat-out don't believe that she missed it. How could you miss a big blue sign?
I told her that she needed to have more self-awareness and be more vigilant and that it was ridiculous that she was looking out the window the whole time and didn't see where she easily could have used the restroom. We eventually stopped at a gas station, which my wife complained was dirty, and she acted all indignant like it was my fault. I told her that I'd never been to this gas station before, so it was unfair of her to blame me for the state of the restroom. I honestly believe she expected me to ask if she needed to go when I saw the sign for the rest area. That's what my dad used to do when I was a child. She was in a bad mood for the rest of the drive, even though it was her fault. After all, I can't read her mind, though I think she expects me to do so. My position is that she needs to grow up and communicate. AITA?

Hi all!
I've encountered a really bizarre UI issue (which may be hardware related) with a Windows 10 PC I put together for my daughter's birthday, and have been tearing my hair out for the past 2 weeks trying to get to the bottom of what might be causing it.
It'll only be used for school work and light gaming, and so I decided to go for an AMD APU setup. The PC was put together using all-new parts, and is specced as follows:

• AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
• AsRock A520M HDV MicroATX Motherboard
• Kingston FURY Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4
• Patriot P300 M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 256GB NVMe Drive
• Corsair CP-9020101-UK CX450M 450 W 80+ Bronze PSU
• Generic brand dual-band Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card
• DEEPCOOL MATREXX 40 3FS Mini Tower case

Everything went off without a hitch initially, and my daughter was happily playing games on it for a couple of days, but then started mentioning that games were closing themselves. I took a look for myself, and found that the Start button didn't always respond when clicked, and when it did actually open it tended to close itself again in 1-5 seconds. Browsers (Edge and Chrome) also started to either close themselves or hit an error page with a "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" message, and her games (Minecraft, Star Stable, and Roblox) all close themselves anywhere from straight away on launch up to 5 minutes of play. I've also noticed that system menus like the Windows Settings and Updates pages tend to vanish after a short while too.
The version of Win10 Home I installed was one I'd grabbed from the Windows Media Creation Tool years ago and was quite out of date, meaning it needed a number of updates once installed. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but on the further two times I reinstalled this version it felt like the Start menu issue didn't occur until after updating the OS. I have also tried downloading a fresh version of Win10 Home through the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and installing that - same issue.
My troubleshooting steps so far:

• Reinstalled Win10 Home multiple times from two different installers (one old, one fresh as of a few days ago - currently on build 1905.2965),
• Uplugged the keyboard, then the mouse, then both and tried another set (in case of cheap keyboard weirdness), plus tried switching from the board USB ports to the case ports,
• Re-seated the RAM,
• Tried one RAM stick only in slot 2, then 1, then repeated with the other stick,
• Tried a stick of DDR4 3200 RAM from another PC in either slot,
• Ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic (clear),
• Removed the Wi-Fi card, then the HD Audio header, then the case USB 2.0 and 3.1 headers,
• Updated the board's BIOS from 2.10 to 2.73, then back to 1.60 as per ASRock's CPU compatability table,
• Updated all relevant chipset and APU graphics drivers,
• Double-checked all overclocking is off in BIOS, including XMP (found after a Google search that the "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" in Chrome and Edge might be OC related),
• Tried installing Windows to a different, older PC (didn't seem to exhibit the same issue, but the system as a whole is ancient so difficult to distinguish chug from outright failure!),
• Removed the motherboard from the case and reconnected the power, HDMI, and keyboard/mouse to check for case shorts.

One thing I had observed was that the initial troubles started around the time we installed Minecraft, as it seems that logging into her Microsoft account through the MC launcher woke up the long-thought-dead beast that is Microsoft Family Safety. This horrible piece of software near crippled her older sister's PC in the past and was a PITA to remove, and on this new PC it initially limited her access to Chrome. I relaxed the settings and thought that was that, but now these new issues seem to have emerged. Is it possible that Microsoft are still screwing with her system, even after multiple re-installs of Windows?
I also noticed that every time the Start menu does open, there's a brief flash of the blue Windows loading wheel next to the mouse pointer, and then the menu vanishes again! I've tried to catch what this might be in the Task Manager but no joy - however the StartMenuExperienceHost.exe does list in the system as having experienced a crash each time.
I can now only assume it's something to do with the motherboard or CPU, but have no clue how I could test for this. I'm absolutely lost for ideas, and really getting quite dispondant now as not only is this my daughter's birthday present that's been pretty much unusable for the past couple of weeks, but also because I've built probably a couple of dozen or so PCs in my time, and not once have I come across such an elusive issue as this.
Any help or ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Well, sort of.
I spent the last two months creating a clone of the game we all love and hate so much at the same time. This was mainly an attempt to learn the framework I'm using for the game, that turned into a ""real"" project. Also kind of a pointless info but this summer will mark my 10 years of learning programming, so I guess this is a neat way to celebrate this first passed decade :).
In order to make this project a reality and not stuck in development hell, I kept things real simple. I've used a few straightforward passives, used weapons with their basic effects, and omitted specials as well as assists. My goal was to reach a playable state as soon as possible. I've voluntarily left some rough edges, starting with the code itself that looks like garbage. There should be no glaring issues or glitches however. It's pretty heavy in assets so make sure you're on WiFi before trying it.

Currently using a Ring Alarm Pro as my gateway router with an additional wireless eero 6 in another cornefloor of my house. Will be upgrading to gigabit fiber next month and was planning on swapping out the eero 6 with an eero 6+. Is this exchange worthwhile for my wireless speed or am I held back by the lower limit of the RAP router (essentially making this eero 6+ upgrade pointless)?
Conversely, I was planning on gifting my eero 6 to a friend who is currently using one eero 6+ at his house (but was planning on adding another node for additional coverage). Would the eero 6 help his situation or is he better off adding a 6+ for uniformity to make full use of his newer router (his internet tops out at 500 Mbps)?
If it matters, I currently have no WiFi 6 devices and there's also an ethernet jack in the room where the 6+ would be used (though I've not had the need to use it as my wireless speeds have been more than OK). I'm thinking of this in terms of future-proofing and assume that Ring will eventually come out with an upgraded Alarm hub.

I've been hit with a bomb shell. Recently moved into a leasehold flat, Estate Agent told us service charge was £800 per year. Then few days later, £700, then £650. (It kept changing...) I asked them to check and make sure before I move forward with this. They checked with a "manager" and it was confirmed as 800 per year. I put in a offer, few months down the line, my solicitor makes me aware the service charge is not £800 per year but infact £2000 per year. I went back to estate agent they (in short) messed up... and the invoice they were sent that says £800 is per 6months NOT per year. It was a very big pill to swallow... and with the property in question that we loved and really wanted.. we decided to continue with the transaction. It still seemed affordable. Needless to say.... cost of living hit everyone hard and we were no exception....and having already been in a very difficult position financially.. we've now had a bomb shell of a letter through the door advising they're entering into a contract (Section 20) and that with all the various works (redecoration) they've come back with a figure for that will mean each leaseholder will need to pay £11,000. They've not outlined exactly when this will be needed, but as you can probably imagine.... I'm in no position to pay such a bill...and at this point, seeking any advice anyone can offer.
I'm seriously considering selling this place. I Just cannot see how this is possible to afford living here any longer. I've already reached out to mortgage advisor to see what I could be able to borrow etc but there's just no way I can afford this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated , thanks everyone

Note: No, the "Wi-Fi sharing" setting does not have any effect on this. That setting merely causes the phone to act as a Wi-Fi repeater when it is connected to some other hotspot. As my phone is my only actual hotspot (and only Internet connection), I cannot try connecting my phone and my laptop to an entirely separate hotspot.

Just moved in to a new house. I am having real trouble to figure out the network set up.
My garage have the fibre access, with three output ports. There is three cables for Ethernet ports in the garage. And two cables for the main house.
In the main house there is a cabinet with a switch. To this switch there is a Unify access point connected.
The house have Ethernet ports in every room.
From one Ethernet port in the house there is a FIBARO home system 2 connected (the house has a lot of smart devices and scenarios, lights going on and off at different timings). It signals no internet connection.
Before I moved I bought a Deco X50 mesh system. I hoped this would able me to have the same wireless network in the house and garage, with Ethernet backhaul.
Right now I connected one x50 to the fibre converter, and by cable connected the two Ethernet cables for the main house directly into the router (neglecting the ethernets ports for the garage ATM).
I then tried to connect a second x50 by Ethernet in the main house. But Ethernet backhaul failed (the X50’s can communicate wireless with a very weak signal though).
My tv in the main house has Ethernet connection, so the ports works.
To my knowledge the Unify system only provides extra Wi-Fi access to smart devices, and is not a classical router. I can see the Wi-Fi-network from the previous owners, which I believe is broadcasted from the unify device.
I asked the previous owner about this. I was told to log into the Unify access point. They told me the credentials was written on the back side (which they were not).
I also cannot access the FIBARO home system (which I suspect is connected to the Unify).
So questions:

1. I can reset the unify and FIBARO devices. But I am afraid this will result in loosing connection to a lot of built in smart lights forever?
   
2. Is the UnifyAccessooint a router, blocking my X50’s from Ethernet backhaul?
   
3. Do you think it would be possible to have this setup -1 X50 in the garage. From this there is a switch for Ethernet in the garage, and Ethernet in the house. -2 separate X50’s in the house, using Ethernet backhaul to create one network with great signal strength. -The unify as an access point for the FIBARO home system hub and all smart devices.

I’m exploring options for DIY or professional contractors project for building outdoor summer shower. There is mains cold water and electricity. It would be located at the back of the big garden next to the shed with 6 m square flat roof.
I was looking at traditional water based Thermosiphon Roof-Mounted Solar Hot Water based sets as well as modern electric cylinders and solar panel sets.
Is this practical in UK? I would like to have trouble free winter time. Perhaps even being able to use in winter once a week.
