2023.06.01 04:31 InsaneNicky What was that THING my fience saw years ago?

bro i made a typo in the title i can't believe it...
I'll try to keep it short.
So, years ago my fiance was walking along old abandoned train tracks with their friend. It was dark and they were heading home. We both live im Poland, but their old house in a small village/city far away from the city we live in now, the nights are dark and theres like no cars, no buildings, nothing. It basically looked like this: dark woods on both sides of the tracks and a bridge far away that they wanted to get on to get back on the sidewalk. My fiance was walking in front of their friend twith a flashlight and they were talking. Suddenly something ran through the tracks like 50 meters from them. My fiance pointed a flashlight at it but could not recognize the *animal* and still doesn't have a clue what that was. (this year they're finishing Nature University they know their shit about the enviorenment in here)
Here's the description of the thing:
Big like a bear, but much slimmer. Black rather short fur. No tail. Front legs much more massive than the back legs. They never really saw the head they said it was "dog-like but not that long". It was running very fast from one forest to another.
OF COURSE the friend wasn't looking at the time and thinks my fiance is messing with him. My fiance never lied about anything and I know they're telling me the truth of what they saw. I see that because they are seriously having chills when they tell me about it. I wish we knew what that was.
There are no bears in Poland. I mean they are ONLY in the far far south east of the country in the mountains, very rare too! And it was in north west of Poland.
In Poland we have lots of folklore about the forest (I myself think of myself as a child of Leszy) and my thought was maybe it could have been Bies...?

TL;DR: BIG FURRY SKINNY BEAR THING AT NIGHT BUT NO BEARS IN POLAND WHAT IS

2023.06.01 04:31 Greedy_Ad_8816 The Diplomat magazine exposed Yan Limeng and Guo Wengui as anti-communist swindlers

Processing video un1ikuoyhb3b1...

Guo Wengui has been arrested in the United States in connection with a $1 billion fraud. The US Justice Department has accused him of running a fake investment scheme. Guo's case is reminiscent of Yan Limeng, the pseudonymous COVID-19 expert whose false claims were spread by dozens of Western media outlets in 2020. Ms. Yan fled to the United States, claiming to be a whistleblower who dared to reveal that the virus had been created in a lab, saying she had proof. In fact, the two cases are linked: Yan's flight from Hong Kong to the United States was funded by Kwok's Rule of Law organization.
Yan's false paper has not been examined and has serious defects. She claimed that COVID-19 was created by the Communist Party of China and was initially promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. Since then, her comments have been picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, an example of how fake news has gone global.
Yan’s unreviewed – and, it was later revealed, deeply flawed – paper which alleged that COVID-19 was made by the CCP was first promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. From there, her claims were picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, in an example of fake news going global.
She broke into the mainstream when she appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and Fox News, but that was just the beginning. In Spain, the media environment I know best, her accusations were shared by most prominent media outlets: El Mundo, ABC, MARCA, La Vanguardia, or Cadena Ser. Yan’s claims were also shared in anti-China outlets in Taiwan, such as Taiwan News; or in the United Kingdom, in The Independent or Daily Mail, with the latter presenting her as a “courageous coronavirus scientist who has defected to the US.” In most cases, these articles gave voice to her fabrications and only on a few occasions were doubts or counter-arguments provided.
Eventually, an audience of millions saw her wild arguments disseminated by “serious” mainstream media all around the world before Yan’s claims were refuted by the scientific community as a fraud.
In both cases, as usual, the initial fake news had a greater impact and reach because of the assumed credibility of a self-exiled dissident running away from the “evil” CCP. Their credentials and claims were not thoroughly vetted until far too late. Anti-China news has come to be digested with gusto by Western audiences. Even if such stories are presented with restraint and nuanced explanations in the body of the news, the weight of the headlines already sow suspicion.
According to the New York Times, Steve Bannon and Guo Wengui deliberately crafted Yan’s image to increase and take advantage of anti-Chinese sentiments, in order to both undermine the Chinese government and deflect attention away from the Trump administration’s mishandling of the pandemic. These fake news stories still resonate today. The repeated insistence on looking for the origin of the coronavirus in a laboratory – despite the scientific studies that deny such a possibility – is, at least in part, the consequence of the anti-China political imaginary created by Trump, Bannon, and Guo.

2023.06.01 04:29 omar_soto_1970 Am I correct about this assertion of the Iranian diaspora or not?

Compared to other communities of color, the Iranian diaspora seems to be the most nationalistic (in a positive sense). A strong sense of community is maintained with each other (despite some ideological differences here and there) while integrating and contributing to the country they find themselves in.
Why do you think that is? What are some of the most helpful ways when it comes to dealing with two nationalities/identities (Iranian-British, Iranian-Canadian, etc.)?
Not to be discriminatory, but from what I have seen, Arab and Turk diaspora are nationalistic as well, however, these two groups are also averse to the values, traditions, and culture of the European and North American nations they reside have (mainly due to their Islamic faith). Iranian diaspora normally embraces Western norms and laws.
East/Southeast Asian and non-Muslim South Asian diaspora contribute positively to the Western countries they are in, but it is also typical to find toxic competition and one-upmanship within both communities when it comes to their members. This does not build a sense of community and I have not seen that take place much when it comes to the Iranian diaspora.
These two groups (E/SE Asian and non-Muslim South Asian) are also not that nationalistic (especially East/Southeast Asians). There is also the issue of self-loathing (to the point of demeaning not just the nation they come from, but also its citizens) that is kind of prevalent within these two diaspora groups (more so among East/Southeast Asians than non-Muslim South Asians). I do not see that amount of self-hate East/Southeast Asians normally have be commonplace among Iranian diaspora very much.

2023.06.01 04:29 DisgracedTuna Full time trailer life?

I've been working outside of my home local since I turned out. Work is slow and doesn't appear to be picking up at home.
I'm considering getting a travel trailer to live in rather than buying a house so I can have some flexibility if things are slow. The plan would be to live in it full time but any local rv slots are 1000+ a month.
I heard rv living was supposed to be cheaper but it almost seems more expensive after financing a trailer and also paying 1100 just for a place to park and some power and water.
How do you full time trailer guys and gals make it out there? Is there some secret to finding cheaper places to stay but still having access to water and sewer?
What do you do in the winter? Temps get below 0 here in the north and going south might not always be the best option if work picks up here.

2023.06.01 04:28 Alex319721 The Golarion Gazette: Nidal Conducts Fourth Test of High-Altitude Rock Weapon

[Previous in series: https://www.reddit.com/Pathfinder2e/comments/13v6ahi/the_golarion_gazette_study_finds_adventuring_only/]
Nidal Conducts Fourth Test of High-Altitude Rock Weapon
International Community Condemns “Provocative” Action
A giant crash of stone and metal was heard outside Pangolais yesterday as the Nidalese military completed what is believed to be the fourth successful test of its high-altitude rock weapon. The test involved a single high-flying creature dropping a moderate-sized rock on a large, purpose-built construct. “Our reports say that the object was dropped from an altitude exceeding 1,000 feet, almost twice the altitude of Nidal’s last test,” said a Taldan intelligence official who asked not to be identified. “Our calculations show that the damage of a falling object increases linearly with altitude and does not depend on the weight of the object, such that even a small rock is enough to destroy high-level creatures.” The official described the scale of the test as “unprecedented,” saying that the estimated yield of the test exceeded 12,000 points of damage, far higher than previous tests. “This amount of damage is dozens of times higher than what we would have expected based on our calculations,” said the official. “Unfortunately, we suspect that our worst fears have come true - the Nidalese have discovered a way to split the rock into many pieces just before impact, making each piece do damage separately.”
Nidal’s high-altitude weapons program has expanded aggressively in recent years in defiance of non-proliferation treaties and multilateral sanctions. Leaders from across the international community have condemned Nidal’s latest test, saying it leads to a more dangerous world. “If the development of these weapons continues, it won’t be long until the entire world lives in fear of their lives being unexpectedly ended by a rock dropped on their head,” said Kara Vertruse, a spokesperson for the International Avian Defense Agency (IADA), the international body responsible for regulating flight-based weapons. “We call on Zon-Kuthon to tell his worshippers that no matter how evil they are, a world of rocks falling from the sky can never be allowed to happen.”
Nidalese officials, on the other hand, defend their weapons program as necessary to deter foreign threats. “If we didn’t have the threat of rocks, our nation would have been destroyed years ago,” said a member of the Black Triune. “Probably some so-called ‘good’ adventurers would have invaded our nation without provocation, just like they do to everyone else. After all, Cheliax doesn’t have high-altitude rocks and look what you just did to them?” As tensions rise, observers across the world hope that any hostilities can be safely confined to on or just above the planet’s surface.

2023.06.01 04:27 human_raisedbyhumans Help: Driving to Jackson Hole from Idaho Falls in late November

Hi! I'm traveling to Jackson Hole to ski over the last weekend of November. Flights are significantly cheaper into Idaho Falls Airport. Though I looked into the shuttle with Salt Lake Express, the times do not work with my flight times, so I'm wanting to rent a 2WD car and drive to Jackson Hole. How likely is my need for a 4WD vehicle? I understand that the mountain pass can be prone to winter storms, etc, but if there is a route that can be taken to avoid sketchy driving, then that is also an option. Wondering if this is less of a concern that early in the winter season. Thank you for any advice!

2023.06.01 04:26 throwaway0978462 Abused by politicians child

Hello hope you are all having a good day.
When i was a teenager, i met someone on the internet who lived in a city near mine. We clicked really well and always would like say the same thing at the same time, they were my first love. After a while of dating/doing the deed, all my friends and family began to point out red flags that i had ignored. they claimed to be my age, yet wasnt enrolled in school, lived alone in multiple properies, had tattoos, would catch ubers upwards of $300+ each way to see me. Sent me videos from an american nightclub with alcohol and would get private flights alone. Everyone who met them also agreed they looked over 20, whereas i had only just hit the age of consent. They would also get out of mental hospitals within a week for things that would typically be a long stay.
They would always tell me their father was a politician but wouldnt tell me which one (they had different last names) because they had sent me videos of their father buying drugs with them or doing other crimes. Eventually all the red flags and feeling like they wanted to be a part of my life but not include me in theirs resulted in the relationship breaking down. Things like them never letting me come to their houses and only ever wanting to come to mine. After a while of no contact, the in love feeling wore off an i realised from the very start i was being emotionally manipulated and treated as a plaything. stuff im too embarrased to tell anyone like believing it was alright for them to cheat because they needed attention and i couldnt give them that when my phone got taken away in class for texting them all day.
I ended up getting anonymous calls threatening me, or screenshots of accounts impersonating me sending that person death threats and a bunch of other stuff. Its pretty unfortunate but that one person left me with such a burden i havent really tried dating anyone again out of fear of being manipulated again. its irrational but damn, its been years and i still think about it all the time.

2023.06.01 04:26 YouCanCallMeH Help/Advice on high battery drain GW4 40mm - usually less than 18 hours normal use every day (AOD off, Tilt & Touch to wake on)

Apologies for another battery level post, but requesting some advice on battery drain.
Image shown is my wife's GW4 40mm - currently at 55%, whereas my GW4 44mm taken off charger at same time is at 88% (same watch face and phone model). I have many more apps, and use more features (including always measuring heart rate). We have the same/latest firmware and software versions FWIW. This was not always the case, watch is ~1 yr old, but consistently what is happening now. For background she is barely using the features (heart rate is set to manual, no GPS, developer settings not enabled, and no extra apps at present).
Recently returned it to the store we purchased from, and it was sent back to Samsung. 2 weeks later it was returned saying there was NO FAULT at all on device, but they wiped it and force a firmware update for good measure. After seeing no difference, I had her try running the day in Flight Mode, and did get significantly better battery (although not matching my standard battery usage on a normal day). Given this, I assumed maybe the Wear app or Watch4 plugin on the phone was perhaps corrupted etc, but after completely removing from her phone and setting up from scratch, same issue persists.
BTW I frequently use ADB to sideload apps on my watch, and disable apps I don't use - so have at least half an idea of what I am doing.
Any suggestions, am I missing something obvious? - I am thinking of connecting it to my phone for a few days to rule out her phone, but otherwise at a loss.

2023.06.01 04:25 SungInTranslation Turkish not honoring flight change

A few months ago, my partner and I booked a pair of multi-city flights on Turkish Airlines for this July from DUB-IST (with a 5-day stopover) and then IST-HKG on one itinerary. I was curious about changing my DUB-IST leg to a different time (same day) and upon browsing the different options, found that it only cost 3,20 EUR to do a flight change. I have Economy (Q) tickets, so it sounds too good to be true, but sure enough, I received an email for a 3,20 EUR charge and a new itinerary confirmation.Last week, I went to pick seats for my IST-HKG leg of the itinerary and upon trying to check out, it said that one or more of my flights was not confirmed. I called Turkish customer service and they said my ticket was on hold and that I had an outstanding charge of 880 EUR due to the DUB-IST flight leg being changed. Keep in mind that I had never seen this 880 EUR charge when checking out to change my flight (from above), nor did my confirmation email mention anything about being charged an additional 880 EUR.While the flight change would have been convenient (leaving 13:30), I don't mind taking my original flight (leaving 10:50 the same morning). I asked the customer service agent if I could just revert back to my original itinerary (and cancel the hold), and she told me to submit a feedback request, refusing to help me further. She also mentioned that it seems I have no confirmed flights at all with Turkish (even though my credit card has been charged!) I've been waiting almost two weeks to hear back from their "feedback" system and have attempted [unsuccessfully] to speak with two other customer service agents. Is there any recourse that we have to get Turkish Airlines to revert our tickets to the current itinerary since we have paid the full price for those tickets? We don’t want to pay 880 EUR to make the change since it was never stated that that was the total price of the change when we paid 3,20 EUR. TLDR: We purchased Turkish Airlines tickets and now they are not honoring them unless we pay 880 EUR to finalize a ticket time change that we don’t want.

2023.06.01 04:23 coviddc Guided hikes starting locations vs hotels inside the park

I'm trying to plan a trip for next summer (2024) to glacier national park. It will be my first time there so I'm still trying to understand the best way to go about doing things and hoping to get some feedback on my ideas:
Airport: Fly into Missoula as it appears to be the only airport with direct flights from my west coast city. Rent a car and drive to the park.
Stay: considering staying in Many Glacier Hotel, Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, or Rising Sun Motor Inn or St. Mary. Open to suggestions if there's better options.
Hikes: I'd love to do the highline trail, but as I'm nervous about hiking alone (single female scared of bears), I'd like to do a guided hike (with a company like Glacier Guides or whoever people recommend), but most of the guided hikes seem to leave from the West Entrance area and drive into the park to the trailheads. If I stay in Many Glacier or St. Mary or elsewhere, it looks like it would be very inconvenient to have to drive back to the west entrance area for a 7am departure time. Does anyone know if you can meet guided hikes at the trailhead instead? (I plan to call some companies too) or are there guided hikes that meet at the trailhead that people know about? I'd prefer to stay inside the park but not sure how to make this work with guided hikes starting points. I'm also interested in an Iceberg lake guided hike or hidden lake or other scenic hikes with moderate level difficulty (not looking for hikes over 10 miles or with great elevation gain/loss).
Anyone have suggestions about where I should stay if I want to do guided hikes (or basically how I can hike in some kind of organized group for safety)?
