2023.05.30 06:17 GermanEnvy Catcher Chocobo Minigame
Hello, this post has a dual purpose: (1) To seek help for me and others to complete the Catcher Chocobo Minigame with a time sufficient to earn the Sun Sigil and (2) to collect up-to-date resources responsive to that inquiry in a single location for future use. I was surprised a post directly on this topic was not among the Top-All Time posts in this subreddit.
TL;DR: Post your best advice or links to advice to beat the Catcher Chocobo Minigame.
I have been trying to win the Sun Sigil without success.
This is the primary resource I have been using. The strategy laid out in that post is, in gist: (1) Only use the D-pad; (2) tap the D-pad instead of holding it down; (3) in the first section, stay on your side to collect balloons; (4) coming out of the first turn, tap right to avoid the 1st and 2nd sets of birds; (5) in the second section, straighten out your Chocobo, try to collect some balloons while the 3rd set of birds is going after the trainer, and when the 4th set of birds is coming for you, dodge to the right; (6) on the second turn, the 5th and 6th sets of birds should not be a problem while you are taking this turn, going after the training and failing to target you, respectively, and you should try to get the balloon signaling the turn, if able; (7) in the final section, look for balloons in the center or right of the final section, and dodge the 7th set of birds by tapping right on the D-pad before tapping hard to the left at the last second to avoid this set of birds; (8) near the cliff of the final section, the 8th set of birds will go after the trainer and you should focus on getting as many balloons as possible near the cliffside, which will ideally be in the row of three or four, even if that means getting hit by the 9th set of birds; (9) practice; (10) be patient.
I think this is a good statement of strategy which is consistent with other advice I have seen on the topic. Even the Final Fantasy Wiki "
Tips#Tips)" section on the topic appears to be a rephrase of dfchang813's advice.
To state the issue frankly, I want to get the Sun Sigil before continuing to progress the game and it's proving to be a real roadblock to playing a game I enjoy and have enjoyed in each of its iterations since the PS2, now the HD Remaster on the PS4. I got it once before on the PS2, some fifteen years ago, so I know it's possible for me and doubt "youthful reflexes" was the necessary ingredient. It's gotten to the point that after the last failed session, I put the game on the shelf for years because I knew this minigame would be waiting for me and dreaded wasting a few hours failing to beat it. Hence, giving it another go on a day off, to ensure success, if only through luck and perseverance. But, six hours and countless attempts later, I still haven't won the Sun Sigil and a 1.9 second record has taunted me for hours. The entire situation has proven frustrating and upsetting, especially because there isn't a "quick restart" function to abandon doomed runs, and I don't know how much more patient I can or should be.
I think my problem is that I'm playing too conservatively. I've gotten quite good at dodging birds, usually taking one or fewer hits, but I only rarely collect 12+ balloons. Those points may be related, but as discussed by dfchang813 above, dodging birds seemingly has a greater skill or practice component than the collection or placement of balloons.
Any advice on how to beat this minigame once and for all would be greatly appreciated.

2023.05.30 06:14 IceGoingSouth I finally caved in and bought the Karen 3000. I mean the Dilbert Reborn sub :)
I may have bough a table calendar and a book before, and or got one for Xmas. Now I'm looking forward to a colourful strip every morning, or whatever time these things will appear on Twitter.
I think overall it was a good move, also creatively. It feels right that Dilbert leaves the dying printed press. And goes post-woke!

2023.05.30 05:57 vampyrewolf There goes another job
Spent the last 7 months working as a temp, repairing coffee equipment. Nice and low stress. Service techs drop off equipment they couldn't fix on location... I strip it down, soak the plumbing in acid, reassemble it, and test it. Then clean it up and put it back on the shelf for the next customer.
They can hire the temps as full time after 6 months without paying penalties.
They just lost a sizeable customer over pricing, and may lose a few customers at that location. Got the call at noon from the temp agency that I was to be done Wednesday (end of the month).
I spent about 20min packing up everything I had brought or bought on my work area... left my tools to keep doing repairs and took everything else to my car.
Boss came by at 2pm, got angry that I had taken stuff out to my car without her going through it all, and told me I was done at 2pm. As in "pack up your tools, I'll lock the door behind you". I have a feeling she didn't know exactly how much I actually had there, and they're going to be scrambling for some stuff tomorrow like electrical connectors... but that's what happens when the company buys 250 of the 600+ I've used in 6 months, and I had my own in my tool bag.

2023.05.30 05:53 NaimaChan Trip Report: Tokyo, Kawaguchiko, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Yokohama, Kamakura
Just got back from 10 days in Japan and wanted to type up a trip report to hopefully help others that are trying to plan a trip!
Our trip was 5/16 - 5/28 including travel days. This was my 2nd time in Japan (first time was study abroad for 5 weeks in May/June 2016), but it was my mom & sister's first time, so the goal was to include as many must-see activities as we possibly could in the short time we were there. Our days were packed to the brim however all 3 of us are fairly active and healthy so despite being absolutely exhausted by the end of each day, in retrospect we wouldn't have changed a thing in our itinerary.
That being said, our itinerary would be much too busy for the average person's first trip to Japan so keep that in mind if you use this information to plan your own trip. For example, we usually only had time to sit down and eat for one meal per day and had to eat on the go for the other meals in order to have enough time to go to all the places we wanted to go to. There was very little downtime in our trip.
Tourist Tips
- Luggage
- We each traveled with 2 checked luggage since they were included in our flight. I had one full sized suitcase and one slightly smaller suitcase which both only had one side filled when I left the US. The plan was to fill the other half of the suitcases with souvenirs to bring home. Last time I went to Japan, it cost me ~$200 to ship two large boxes of souvenirs back home, so despite having to bring a lot of luggage this saved me a significant amount of money and I will be doing this for future trips as well.
- Within our luggage we also packed a duffel bag to hold all our purchases on heavy shopping days and a daily backpack to hold things like our trash bag, hand towel, hand sanitizewet wipes, body wipes, small purchases, etc. My carry-on was a 40L backpack that I took with us when we stayed overnight in Kyoto.
- Money
- I brought $400 cash to exchange at the airport. I had gotten a Charles Schwab debit card before leaving which has no foreign transaction/ATM fees so I planned to use my card for whatever purchases I could then use cash for everything else. I ended up withdrawing another „20000 which was just enough cash to last me the rest of our trip.
- Walking
- Last time I went to Japan I survived wearing flat gladiator sandals basically the whole trip, but this did NOT work this time around for whatever reason (I guess we walked a lot more this time?). BRING COMFORTABLE SHOES TO WALK IN. I ended up having to buy sneakers on day 2 because I stupidly didn't think I would need them. I was more concerned about looking cute for pictures (ha) but I quickly realized that all the girls in Japan wear sneakers with their cute skirts and dresses, so I blended right in. I would also recommend bringing a second pair of shoes with you each day (in your backpack) to swap into if the shoes you are wearing start giving you blisters.
- Masking
- We saw a lot of people not wearing masks, but the majority of people still wear masks. I would say the ratio of people wearing masks to not wearing masks was about 80:20.
- Trash
- As many have mentioned on this subreddit, due to the lack of public trash bins I would highly recommend bringing a reusable trash bag to store your trash while you're out and about until you can find a bin. We found these cool black fabric ones with a waterproof liner on the inside that you could rinse out when it got dirty and could clip to the outside of your backpack so it wasnāt with your other belongings.
- Restrooms
- Due to the lack of hand dryers/paper towels in bathrooms we also brought hand towels as recommended, but found ourselves just air drying our hands way more often than using the hand towels as it was often more cumbersome to remove our backpacks and fish out our hand towels to use.
Accommodations
- Sakura Hotel Jimbocho in Tokyo
- I stayed in this hostel when I studied abroad in college in 2016, so it holds a special place in my heart. You can get a single room here for cheap, and although the rooms are extremely small, I donāt travel to Japan to spend time in my hotel so when looking for accommodations price is my #1 factor, not comfort. Toilets and showers are shared in this hostel and the rooms are set up coming off of a square hallway with sinks/restroom facilities in the center. The facilities donāt appear to be very modern and pretty, but the water pressure of the showers is the BEST. They have other room types as well, like bunk-beds, double rooms, etc. They have a 24 hour cafe downstairs and breakfast is included in your stay. All their staff speak English & Japanese (and other languages as well). They host some cool events like language exchanges and walking/jogging groups if you are more of a social person. I really enjoy the location of this hostel. You are within walking distance from the Imperial Palace and it still feels like you are in the city without it being so loud and busy like if you were to stay in Shibuya, etc. They do have other locations if youāre looking for somewhere with more nightlife.
- The Millennials Hostel in Kyoto
- This is a really modern looking hostel in Kyoto, 2 streets over from Pontocho. The facilities are gorgeous and look brand new. They are set up similar to a capsule style hotel with a bunch of rooms coming off a hallway. Your bed takes up your entire space, and you have about 18 inches at the foot of your bed to stand. You pull an opaque privacy screen down to make your room private - there is no door. You can control your bedās incline and lights through an iPhone in your room. There is storage space under your bed and on a shelf above your bed. Restrooms are shared but the showers are in one room and toilets in another. There are a lot of shared common spaces including a full stocked kitchen you can cook your meals in, but we literally only stayed here to sleep so we didnāt explore those spaces. I was worried about other guests being noisy but that wasnāt the case - everyone was super respectful. The price and location was great so I would definitely come back here.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1 & 2: Travel - We flew out of Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Our direct flight to Narita was around $1600 after taxes, fees, and flight insurance. I had one layover the last time I flew to Japan and in the future I will only be buying a direct flight as I found this to be way easier than having a layover.
- Once we arrived in Narita we turned on our e-sim. We chose Ubigi after reading many positive reviews on this subreddit and I highly recommend them. We had some issues getting iMessage to work despite following Ubigi's instructions to a T, so we ended up just using WhatsApp to message during the trip, however, iMessage did start working later on.
- We decided against picking up our JR passes & seat reservations at the airport because the line was long and we didn't need them for another 5 days.
- Going through customs/immigration and grabbing our luggage only took about 20-30 minutes. There were many staff to guide you and we found the whole process to be really smooth.
- We exchanged our currency and went downstairs to buy our tickets for Narita Express at a ticket vending machine. We got round trip tickets for „3460 (keep in mind that the return ticket needs to be used within 14 days). We had purchased our Suica before leaving and put them in our iPhone wallets and they came with a balance of „2000 so we didn't load money onto our cards until the following day.
- We took the Narita Express to Tokyo Station then took a cab to our hostel in Jimbocho. We each traveled with 2 checked luggage, so we found the short and inexpensive taxi ride to be a better option than lugging 6 giant suitcases on local trains to get to our hostel.
- We checked into our hostel. The total price per person for 11 nights was „49500 (about $380).
Day 3: Imperial Palace/Ueno - We woke up and walked to the Imperial Palace/East Gardens. We got there right when they opened and spent about 90 minutes there. We walked back to Jimbocho to go to my favorite tempura place in Jimbocho. This place has gotten quite famous since I was last there in 2016. We were first in line at 10:45am and by the time they opened for lunch at 11:30, there was a line of 20+ people. Our lunch cost only „800.
- After lunch we took the train to Ueno and spent some time in the Tokyo National Museum and Ueno Park. We also visited Shinobazu No Ike Bentendo Temple which is a cool temple right inside Ueno Park. While at Ueno Station, we picked up our JR passes & seat reservation tickets and also put Ā„5000 on our Suica. We really enjoyed the fact that you could charge your mobile suica at a convenience store using cash - we didnāt have to worry about finding the machines in train stations with the phone holders.
- After that we walked through Ameyoko and did some shopping - I bought a super cute used Coach purse for around $65. Ameyoko seemed to have a lot more products than when I was there in 2016⦠but I also had more money this time around so maybe I was just paying more attention!
- We took a train back to our hostel to drop off our shopping bags and change. We took a train to Shinjuku to go to New York Grill for our dinner reservation. New York Grill is on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt hotel in Shinjuku and the views were incredible. We got the Spring Harvest 5-course dinner which included wagyu and it was easily the best beef I have ever eaten in my life - so juicy and buttery. The cost was „23100 per person (~$175).
- 25,138 steps on this day.
Day 4: Shibuya/Akihabara - We woke up and took a train to Shibuya to see Hachiko, go to the Starbucks near Shibuya Crossing, and shop at Shibuya109 and Uniqlo. It was hard for me to find any clothing that would fit me at the stores in Shibuya109 (I am a US 8/10 which is basically considered plus size in Japan) however I was able to find a cute t-shirt at Punyu's in Shibuya109 and two dresses at Uniqlo. I also bought sneakers at the Skechers store.
- I also went to the Mega Don Quijote in Shibuya and spent about $102 on candy and snacks to bring home. Lots of fun KitKat flavors here but it was very crowded and hard to walk around with my extremely full baskets.
- We took a train back to our hostel to drop off our shopping bags and had a quick lunch via conbini.
- We took a train to Akihabara and bought some souvenirs and gachapon, and walked all the way back to Ameyoko where I spent another $90 on candy and snacks to bring home.
- We took a train back to our hostel to drop off our shopping bags and change. We took a train to Ginza to go to Tempura Kondo for dinner (a Michelin starred tempura restaurant). We got the Yomogi dinner which was „23100 per person („25410 after fees, ~$195). The staff were amazing - they noticed that my sister was left-handed and set up her plates/silverware as such which was really observant. We loved the dinner, however there was WAY too much food for us; the staff recognized we were starting to get full, and asked us if we would be able to eat the next course which was ten-don. I was really concerned about being disrespectful and wasting food, so I was really glad that they noticed and asked!
- 19,445 steps on this day.
Day 5: Asakusa/Ginza/Omoide Yokocho - We woke up and took a train to Asakusa to see Sanja Matsuri. We shopped at the small souvenir shops on Nakamise-dori and had street food at the festival for lunch. I bought an awesome goshuincho here with a wooden cover and foxes on it.
- After being completely overstimulated, we took a train to Rikugi-en Garden to escape the crowds. This garden is a little off the beaten path, just outside the big city, but it is completely gorgeous and so worth the trip.
- After the garden, we took a train to Ginza to window shop and go to our reservation at Higashiya Ginza for wagashi & tea pairing. We had 5 wagashi paired with 5 teas that were amazing. It cost „4500 per person.
- After this, we walked to Mitsukoshi Ginza to explore the basement food floor and grab dinner. They start to discount the food as the stores near closing time, so going for a late dinner can save you a couple yen! After eating on their rooftop terrace which was beautiful, we walked to Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki Paris Marunouichi to grab dessert then headed back to our hostel to drop off our shopping bags.
- After we ate, we took a train to Shinjuku to walk down Omoide Yokocho. We had a drink on the third floor of Bar Albatross - highly recommend! The alleyway is a lot shorter than I imagined, and very crowded as you would expect. I probably wouldnāt go back here in the future but I am glad we visited!
- 25,002 steps on this day.
Day 6: Harajuku - We woke up and took a train to Harajuku to visit Meiji Shrine and got our first goshuin.
- After visiting the shrine, we walked back to Takeshita-dori to get lunch at Afuri Ramen. Theyāre known for their ramen with yuzu in their broth and this was one of our favorite meals during our trip. We got there about 20 minutes before they opened and were ~8th in line. By the time they opened, the line was stretching around the building!
- We walked down Takeshita-dori and shopped, then went to our reservation at Mipig Cafe (mini pig cafe). This place was so cute! You can make reservations for 30 minutes or 1 hour where you sit on the floor and miniature pigs will come and sit on your lap. You werenāt allowed to pick the pigs up and the staff were super kind and handled the pigs well. A 30 minute reservation was Ā„1800 per person.
- After the pigs, we walked down Omotesando and took the train to Shinjuku to get dinner on the food floor at Isetan.
- After we ate on the rooftop terrace (beautiful once again), we headed back to our hostel to drop off our shopping bags. We took the train to Shibuya to go to our reservation at Shibuya Sky. We got the package where you get an admission ticket including a 50 minute reservation for the sofa seats and a choice of a mini bottle of champagne or 2 beers per person, which cost „5900 per person. The views were unreal and I recommend reserving the sofa seats so you can get amazing pictures. This was a highlight of our trip.
- 21,719 steps on this day.
Day 7: Kawaguchiko - This was our first travel day. We woke up early to take the highway bus from Busta Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko. The bus was „4400 per person. We were able to get some super clear pictures of Mt. Fuji while we were on the bus and right when we arrived at the station.
- We bought the daily unlimited bus pass for „1500 which ended up not being worth it for us because we spent so little time seeing things on the bus route. First, we went to the Panoramic Ropeway. We got there about 15 minutes before they opened and there was already a really long line. By this time, Mt. Fuji was already completely covered in clouds but the ropeway was really cool and we still got some awesome panoramic pictures. They have a shop at the top where you can get ice cream and sit on some swings and take pictures.
- After the ropeway we took the bus back to Kawaguchiko Station to get on the train to go to Chureito Pagoda. The gnats here were INSANE. We climbed up the ~400 or so steps to the top and got some cool pictures as well as our goshuin.
- We walked back to the station and took the train to Fuji-san Station and walked ~30 minutes to Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. The wooded walk up to the shrine is absolutely gorgeous. We got goshuin here as well.
- After the shrine, we walked and took a train back to Kawaguchiko Station to eat a conbini dinner, do last minute shopping, and catch our bus back to Tokyo.
- 19,374 steps on this day.
Day 8: Kanazawa - We woke up early to catch our 6:16am shinkansen to Kanazawa. Once we arrived, we bought the daily unlimited bus pass and took the bus to Omicho Market where we bought some souvenirs and food.
- We walked from Omicho Market to visit Ozaki Shrine and Oyama Shrine and got goshuin at both places. My sister realized she lost her wallet at this point, but a kind soul had turned it in to the staff at Ozaki Shrine!
- We took the bus from Oyama Shrine to Kenroku-en Garden, where we walked around, took lots of pictures, and sat down for lunch at a local restaurant.
- After lunch, we took the bus to the Higashi Chaya district where we shopped and took pictures.
- After that, we took the bus back to Kanazawa Station to catch our 5:57pm shinkansen back to Tokyo.
- 20,192 steps on this day.
Day 9: Kyoto Day 1 - We woke up early to pack our overnight bags and catch our 6:21am shinkansen to Kyoto, where we would be staying for one night. We decided to keep our reservation at our Tokyo hostel because 1) it was super cheap and 2) we would be able to leave all our suitcases and belongings in our rooms for when we returned to Tokyo.
- When we arrived in Kyoto, we headed straight to our hostel to have them hold our bags before we could check in later that day.
- After that, we took a local bus to the Arashiyama area. It was absolutely packed with school groups and tour buses. We walked up Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street to Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple where it was much quieter. We got goshuin and visited the small and private bamboo grove behind the temple. We walked back down Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street towards Togetsukyo Bridge where we stopped and sat down for lunch then continued shopping along the way. I got lots of uji-matcha here.
- We walked back to Arashiyama Station and took a train to Kiyomizu-dera where we got goshuin, then walked to a small rooftop bar overlooking the Hokan-ji temple and pagoda and got awesome pictures and had dinner.
- After eating, we walked back to our hostel and checked in, then slept for the night. Our 1 night stay cost „5000 per person.
- 21,545 steps on this day.
Day 10: Kyoto/Nara Day 2 - We woke up super early to check out of our hostel and head to Fushimi Inari. Our hostel held our bags while we went sightseeing for the day. We arrived around 6:45am which was so worth it - it wasnāt crowded at all and we got lots of pictures of the shrine and torii gates without any people in them. We walked for about 30 minutes up the mountain then headed back to Inari Station to head to Nara.
- Once we arrived in Nara, we spent some time with the deer then visited Todai-ji and got goshuin.
- After that, we took a train back to Fushimi Inari to visit the souvenir shops which had not opened yet when we had gotten there earlier that day. We shopped and got goshuin, then headed to Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka to shop. We visited Ryozen Kannon to get pictures (they had closed by the time we got there) and walked down Ishibei-koji Lane and Hanamikoji Street.
- After that, we walked back to our hostel to pick up our bags. We took a taxi to Kyoto Station to catch our 7:36pm shinkansen back to Tokyo.
- 27,861 steps on this day.
Day 11: Tattoo - My mom and I went to a tattoo shop near Shibuya to get matching tattoos on our wrists, then my mom spent the rest of the day shopping in Shibuya with my sister while I got another large tattoo on my shoulder.
- After my tattoo was finished, we all met up in Ikebukuro to get gyudon for dinner.
- 9,879 steps on this day.
Day 12: Yokohama/Kamakura - We woke up and took a train to Yokohama where we walked the Minato Mirai 21 area and shopped and had lunch at World Porters.
- After lunch, we took a train to Kamakura. First, we visited Hase-dera and got goshuin. I got lots of pictures of the hydrangeas even though they werenāt in full bloom yet.
- After that we walked up the road to Daibutsu and got goshuin. We walked back to Hase Station and took a train to Kamakura Station and walked the pedestrian pathway in the center of the road to Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu. We got our goshuin and were able to observe a small part of a traditional Japanese wedding that was happening at the shrine, which was really cool.
- After that, we walked back to Kamakura Station and took a train back to Tokyo.
- We spent the night packing. I ended up completely filling my suitcases with my souvenirs and had to put even more in my carry-on bag.
- 21,131 steps on this day.
Day 13: Travel - We woke up and headed back to Senso-ji to grab our goshuin, since it was too busy when Sanja Matsuri was happening the week before.
- We took a train back to our hostel and checked out around 11am, then made our way to Tokyo Station to take the Narita Express back to the airport.
- We arrived at the airport with plenty of time before our flight so we could get last-minute souvenirs. I found a couple flavors of KitKat and Hi-Chew here that I could not find in Donki/Ameyoko - but I could not find Beni-Imo KitKat which is the flavor that I was looking for! :(
- We flew back to OāHare and drove home from there.
Trip Cost
- Total trip cost: ~$5462.73
- Total spent before I left Japan (flight, JR pass, highway bus ticket, tattoo deposit, pay-ahead reservations, suica, car rental): $2562.73

2023.05.30 05:50 Drakolf Dragon Rising- 4. Counsel:
It was called disassociation, the change in my life had been so traumatic that I just... kind of existed, largely doing things on autopilot, only engaging in things when necessary.
I hadn't wanted to be a Kobold, part of me kept thinking, 'this isn't real, I'm going to wake up any moment now'. But I never woke up to anything but this reality. Rather than tackle this like a normal, sane person, I just withdrew and didn't engage.
"Hello, I'm Ruuk." I said. "I haven't exactly been here the past year and some."
The way everyone welcomed me to the warren, not like a stranger finally being accepted, but as a family member who was gone for far too long- It felt good to just...
connect. While I sequestered myself to my shack on the edge of town, the warren had been organizing, fixing things up, just generally working their asses off to make things as comfortable as possible for people. The result was kind of an anachronistic mess, but it worked. Roads had been turn up and repaved, taking a mess of a car-reliant town and streamlining it so people could actually walk from place to place.
The Artificers had taken cars apart and reused the tools to make a tramway that was convenient for everyone. Why bother with cars when half of us can't even reach the pedals? With the restructuring of the town building by building, done simply because it needed to be done, the surrounding houses could be utilized more efficiently.
The reason why my house was largely untouched was because it was still my house, there was no committee ruling that demanded I give it up. It was understood that I'd know what I wanted to do with it when I was finished being a hermit.
Well, more than a handful of people suggested I just have a full-on mage tower, I realistically didn't need that much space, and even then, the things I wanted to keep were so few that having an entire four-story house to myself with more rooms than I realistically needed.
"Besides, when you get to Level 15, you can create your own demiplane." Tudru, the Fighter, remarked.
The plans for such a hypothetical mage tower put it toward the center of the town, just north of the central tramway. It would be convenient to get to me, and it would be convenient for me to go anywhere.
"Plus, well, we've been wanting you to be the Sorcerer on the Council." Goss, the Sorcerer, remarked.
"The what on the
what?" I asked.
The Council, as I understood, was comprised equally of Humans and Kobolds. Kobolds with a set Class were put into a position to discuss the needs of the town. No matter who it was, no matter the Class, there was a representative, even if they were the only one present.
There was no Sorcerer Councilor yet, in spite of us being fairly common.
"Why me?" I asked after being given a significantly less truncated explanation.
"Because you're the most competent one out of all of us, are unbound by preconceived notions of how things work." Goss replied. "I mean, I would have
never thought of using Magic Missile on that boulder, or staggering the hits like that so nobody got hurt."
I rubbed the back of my neck. "I mean, anyone could have done it." I said.
"The fact of the matter, Ruuk, is that most of us have assumptions based on a bunch of books in a situation that we still don't
really understand. I choose to believe that another world has made contact with ours, and we're the ones burdened with responsibility. That doesn't mean I am
correct."
They further broke down expectations.
"I am in charge of infrastructure." Rekka, the Artificer, spoke. The goal was to transform the town into an entirely self-sufficient place. Since we were still technically under quarantine, we couldn't get supplies in or out, not without the government allowing it through. The dissemination of magic items and technology that was essential to our continued existence hinged on understanding where to put it and how to ensure it was used correctly.
Barbarians and Fighters- in spite of Kuvli and Tudru being the only ones- were in charge of town defense.
"We work in tandem to find the best solution to a threat." Tudru said. "While thus far purely theoretical, we have options for if and when monsters show up. Let's not forget the Dire Rat that came out of the mine."
"Dire Rat?" I asked.
"Big fuckers." Kuvli said. "Ever seen a nutria? That fucker you killed was even bigger."
It was understood that if monsters came about, we would need weapons. Artificers took care of that, we had a small cache of magically enhanced swords ready and available, as well as every gun in town somewhere where people could grab and react.
Bards, when we would eventually get one, would be in charge of communications and entertainment. With the quarantine in place and us having no actual income at the moment, short of going out and stealing shit, we were largely on our own with what we already had.
"I am in charge of ensuring the town's spiritual needs are taken care of, and the adjudication of our laws." Galax stated. "Given the high probability of Gods existing, and the likelihood of demons, ghosts, and other beings eventually showing up, This includes discerning which deities are existent, and which ones are not. So far, we've only had minor to moderate luck with divine magic. Prayer is necessary for it to work, as we have to explicitly petition our Gods for it every long rest."
"Aren't you biased toward Bahamut?" I asked.
"Of course." He said. "Any anyone who comes to the Temple is welcome to hear anything I have to say on the matter. The biggest problem is figuring out how it all relates."
Next was Merti. "We Druids are in charge of ensuring this town's sustainability and harmony with nature." She said. "That includes recycling materials, ethical and sustainable logging, hunting, farming... Essentially, as long as it pertains to nature, it's our duty to ensure we don't shoot ourselves in the foot."
"Well, while you're busy speaking for the trees, we're responsible for going out there and making sure nothing is coming to kill us. That and getting meat." Tatla spoke. "We're also in reserve in case of a combat situation, we defer to our Fighter and Barbarian for that."
"
When we get a Rogue, they will focus on security. As the closest thing we've got to that, I've got plans set up for establishing a wall around the town, just outside the Anomaly, so that people can't just waltz right in, and to prevent any wild animals or hypothetical monsters from getting in." Nakk the Locksmith who might actually be a Rogue said. "And for the record, I've tried everything I can think of to awaken to a Class, and I'm reasonably certain Rogue isn't one." He paused. "That being said, I am offering lockpicking lessons to anyone who thinks it might help."
"Considering we just share and share alike, I don't think we need to worry about
our Rogues." Someone I wasn't familiar with yet said.
The way Nakk reacted to his statement, avoiding his gaze, made me wonder why he reacted that way.
"Nakk, why do you look guilty?" I asked.
He looked at me with wide eyes, and for a tense moment, it seemed like he was about to run. I walked up to him and gently put my hand on his shoulder. "It's better to get it out now, rather than later."
He looked away. "I... I've been overcharging everyone since I moved in." He said. "On top of that, I've used my skills as a locksmith to steal from people."
He expected us to get angry, and a fair number of us did.
"Honor and Correction to the enemies of Justice and Good." Galax spoke, "Nakk, is the confession you have spoken true?"
"Y-yes." Nakk said softly.
"When you moved here, was it your intention to steal from us?"
"No." Nakk said. "I just- I had some bad debts, I was trying to escape, start a new life. But then they found me, told me if I didn't pay off the debt, they'd make me regret it. So I stole, but no matter how much I took, the debt never seemed to shrink. When we were all transformed, I was so happy because I could finally escape. They couldn't possibly hurt all of us, and with the quarantine..."
"Nakk." Galax spoke. "Is it your intention to atone for your crimes?"
Nakk nodded. "Yes."
"Then I shall ease your burden, that you no longer are swayed into such temptation." Galax took a pouch out of another pouch on his belt. "This is powdered silver." He said, several eyes widened, clearly understanding the significance of this. "Bahamut, Grandfather of Dragons, Grand Master of Flowers, Justicemaker. Before me stands a penitent soul seeking to atone for his sins against his fellow people. If he hides from you, you are the one who shall bring him into the light. If he hides his face, you are the one who shall reveal it. If his tongue betrays him against his people, you shall be the one who frees it from evil machinations."
He threw the powdered silver upon Nakk, and as he did so, he roared.
"NOMAG SVABOL UI WHEDAB RANNOX EKESS MITNE!" The silver flashed with brilliant light that, somehow, didn't hurt to look upon, and then Nakk was engulfed in flames. Before anyone could panic, the flames swirled as if caught in a whirlwind and flew into Nakk's open mouth.
For a moment, Nakk was suspended in the air, and then he fell onto his feet, then onto his hands and knees. He gasped for breath, faint wisps of silvery fire escaping his open maw.
"What the fuck just happened?" Kuvli asked.
"
That was the Atonement spell." A Player remarked. "You touch a willing creature whose alignment has changed, and if you're powerful enough, you bring them back to their original alignment. In this case, maybe neutral leaning toward evil back to good."
Galax nodded. "You have caused suffering to your people, Nakk. I have firmly put you back on the path to righteousness. You will no longer fear the reprisal of your warren, but will openly accept it. You will no longer hesitate, you will do what is necessary to make amends. Though I can do this as many times as I deem necessary, for you, this is but one chance. In the guidance of Bahmut, go forth and sin no more."
"I will. Thank you." Nakk said.
"I do not need thanks, I am simply the one who interceded on your behalf. Zhin mrith filkiati."
With that out of the way, the meeting resumed.
"Ruuk, as the Sorcerer Councilor, you would be responsible for the responsible use of magic. As every Sorcerer has unique spells, there is a level of versatility that the Warren can use. It would be your duty to advocate for your fellow Sorcerers, to ensure we do not end up taking advantage of them for our own selfish desires." Rekka said. "What do you say?"
I gave it some thought, then nodded. "I'll do it." I said.
What the Council does, as I learned, is convene every week to go over current events and how to deal with them, and occasionally plan ahead on hypothetical situations. We were each paired with a Human who was chosen by other Humans to serve as their representative on specific matters.
My partner is Dave. Dave is a Pagan, he practices magic as a form of spirituality. He is also, currently, the only Human with any level of magical skill, being able to use magic items fairly easily without it blowing up in his face.
"The only reason why I'm not a Kobold is because I want to be an Elf." He said. "I'm hoping that learning more about the Anomaly on the magical end of the spectrum of scholarly pursuit will allow us to do that." He paused. "I will also settle for Dragonborn. You and Galax are currently the best chance of either."
"Why would we want to do that?" I asked.
"Well, presently, only Kobolds are capable of magic, meaning that Humans in the Forgotten Realms are different from us."
"The what?"
"Common setting for D&D." He said. "Now, back when this was all make-believe, Earth
was mentioned as being existent in the D&D multiverse, meaning that
something decided to mess with us." He paused. "Look, from what I've been able to gather, Earth is in a part of the Prime Material plane that has very weak connections to other planes, we lack magic because of this. However, we are currently in a dome of
sustained magic-"
"It's actually a relatively short column." I corrected.
"-which means something has connected us, and specifically us." He finished.
"Alright, so this raises several presumptions, like the notion that someone did this to us for a
reason. Do you have any ideas as to what that reason would be?"
"Interplanar invasion, the astral plane bleeding into ours, maybe we're crashing into another plane, maybe a wizard got lucky. We don't have enough information."
I sighed. "Look, let's just get some work done."
We got started on requests, most of them were just questions on if a certain spell was viable for use, some were requests to run experiments with certain spells. With Dave and I debating back and forth, we got them done by the end of the day.

BACKSTORY: tldr
Sootsprinkle (now known as Inkle), a bird with mottled black and grey feathers, embarks on a journey beyond his home forest. Armed with a map from his father, he quickly becomes lost due to the forest's uniformity. As night falls, he encounters strange luminescent blobs that captivate him. Following one of them, he discovers another blob trailing behind him. Intrigued, he observes multiple processions of these blobs converging towards a distant point.
Reaching a clearing, Sootsprinkle finds himself surrounded by an impenetrable darkness. When he attempts to land, he realizes there is no ground beneath him and starts falling into a seemingly endless void. As he plummets, he contemplates his father, the sign he made, and the creatures he encountered. Eventually, he loses consciousness due to his ever increasing velocity.
Upon waking, Sootsprinkle is greeted by an elf and an old man who rescued him from their well. Confused but relieved, he introduces himself as "Sootpinkie Sprinkle." They inquire about his origins, and he tells them about his forest, his father, and the peculiar journey that led him to their location. The elf lady, named Zindi, decides to help him and invites him inside their dwelling.
They tell Sootsprinkle they are in The Vastlands, main continent of Arcavios and that they can help him become acquainted with their ways, history and educational requirements.
Long months of studying ensue, but Sootsprinkle proves his worth with an excellent memory despite subpar recitations. He learns how to write in common and begins to learn elvish under Zindi's tutelage.
During his studies, he takes an interest in the magic Zindi and the old man perform on a daily basis, seemingly effortlessly. He asks questions tirelessly and without the usual stuttering.
They mention that the University of Strixhaven, the most elite school of mages in the multiverse, is only a few days journey from their home and encourage him to apply. He wonders desperately about his father and the forest village he left behind, but decides his dad is too busy being rich and applies to Strixhaven in the end. Still, he vows to return not only literate but as a wizard and a scholar.
He is accepted swiftly by the college of Lorehold, despite being just around their average standards, once he mentions the odd void that brought him to their lands. This college of scholars set their motto "Leave no stone unturned" deep into young Sootsprinkle. He adventured often, despite his small size. On one expedition he found a shiny green pebble and took it back to his professors who laughed and told him it was just a regular rock that was shiny and green. Sootsprinkle kept it anyway.
Later, he found a feather trapped in fossilized resin and excavated it with great care. It was in near pristine condition, blacker than his own and twice as big. When he made his way back, he decided to do independent research in the library to avoid being laughed at again. A blackish ink sprang forth from the tip, staining countless books before he stuck it in his mouth swallowing nearly a bucket full of the rancid liquid. Sootsprinkle was swiftly brought to the infirmary where he made a full recovery and gained a new nickname "Inkwell". He liked it, but decided to pay homage to his old name and family by changing the ending to "le".
Worried about getting kicked out, he explained the entire situation, without stuttering and was granted leniency. This was partially due to his discovery of the unique feather, which was confiscated until head scholars had learned everything they could about it and deemed it safe for him to retain. It was his pride and joy, he wrote many flawless papers with it and about it.
He spent nearly zero time eating, sleeping or making friends. He loved listening to his peers speak and learning from them and always tried his best to reply when they talked to him first, but never went out on his own to seek them out.
In his 3rd year there, he decided to start researching the black void more closely. No one had heard of such a thing although many theories were thrown about here and there. The old man's well was studied day and night one year, under almost permanent surveillance. Nothing but water ever came out again. There was nothing odd about the well.
Inkle decided to take his research to the Biblioplex, supposedly the most massive collection of knowledge in all of the known multiverse. He had been before but the sheer size of the place left him a little upset, knowing he could never possibly read everything in there. He returned sparingly over the previous 2 years.
The librarian and codex proved invaluable to his research although the anomaly had never been seen in the form it took that fateful day, the effects resembled those of the creature known as Vormox, an enormous, worm-shaped anomaly with iridescent scales and a serpentine body.
It possesses the ability to teleport matter by consuming it. When it devours something, it absorbs its energy and essence. The consumed matter is transformed into energy, and "defected", intact, at another location (Usually somewhere random in the vacuum of space or mashed inside another object. In this case, it seems it was the old man's well.
The futility of his situation hit him then, there was absolutely no way to locate this creature in all the infinite locations it could be in and no way to manipulate it to take him back to the right home in the right timeline in the right reality.
Inkle was not worried that he would never see his father again, that was a near certainty. Distraught, he sought comfort in both learning and psychedelic substances, many of which he modified at random. His 108th trial was on an unremarkable evening with an unremarkable substance that he already knew through and through. An odd fungus boiled down, mixed with any alcohol, and magically flavored with a new taste he came up with called "pitch". It was a heavy flavor, it tasted like the top of your mouth, only more. Or like nothing, only less.
Too lazy to grab a cup tonight, he conjured a health potion and dumped in the pitch flavored liquid, filling it to the brim before downing the whole concoction at once. He went to lay down in his bed but substance kicked in nearly immediately.
Vibrant colors danced before his eyes, swirling and merging in an ethereal symphony of hues. Reality twisted and contorted, shifting like a mirage in the desert. His bed seemed miles away, but he made a lunge for it and felt something soft before closing his eyes. And yet, something was wrong.
In this altered state, he felt a profound disconnection with the universe, as if he could touch the very essence of creation but never be a part of it. He floated through cascading patterns of geometric shapes, each one unfolding with intricate precision. Fear led him into a small pocket of a reality in a corner of his mind left untouched since childhood. The air here calmed him and the room faded. Time and space became malleable, merging and folding in on themselves. The sharp points of the fractals were gone.
The journey reached its crescendo. He emerged from the undulating abyss into a realm not unlike his own. He saw grass so green it almost looked real. In fact it felt pretty real too, although the substance has never given him tactile hallucinations before. Unconcerned, he took a bite of probably the most grass flavored grass he'd even encountered.
The air crackled with energy, and the atmosphere hummed with an otherworldly resonance, promising endless adventures and profound revelations. No sooner than one flap of his wings and Inkle smashed into the ground, and blacked out, head throbbing all the while.
Unbeknownst to him, Inkle had crossed a threshold in his own mind entering a reality in some space and time entirely different than his own. He had in fact, not landed on his bed and instead fell through one of those tiny cracks in reality that are only visible when you close your eyes.
He dreamed of the nothingness, discovering his entire self in the absence of a mind. The pain of losing his home dimension felt so insignificant compared to the nothingness. He wondered about love and companionship but realized he wouldn't care to experience it again, but rather would like to know and catalogue it along with as many other things as possible. He looked around and saw his quill and then his body and willed himself towards them.
When he woke up to the sound of birds, he was on a patch of grass on a beach staring at a vast and dark ocean.

2023.05.30 05:46 TARDISMischief āIf they donāt, God doesā
My husband and I moved into our ward almost a year ago. Our relationship with our faith has been complicated as we sort culture and doctrine and wrestle with heavy questions of belonging. We were enveloped into this ward so perfectly that it all felt meant to be to help our faith. Our bishop had us and a few others at his home for what we affectionately called our āsafe spaceā group where we could wrestle and learn together with faith being the goal. (But not shying away from hard things and never claiming to know the exact answer) so we kept on in the church with our faith shelf heavy and wondering if our thoughts and feelings were in line with truth.
This week our stake dissolved a ward and redrew the boundaries. My husband was called to serve in the bishopric in one of the newly created wards. The new bishop being another member of our āsafe spaceā group. Our newly released bishop marveled as he didnāt know he was inadvertently training new leadership with our monthly meetings. He jokingly asked if the stake knew what they were getting themselves into with us. And I just sharedā¦āif they donāt, God doesā. I donāt know what the next bit of our life is going to look like. We are young! But Iāve felt very lost for a whileā¦but this just gives me a bit of hope.
Take what you will from this. Itās all very fresh. Called officially and set apart yesterday. Wish us luck! And remember, God knows you, even when you feel like you donāt know yourself..or feel like you know Him very well.

2023.05.30 05:40 Born-Conversation-82 [TOMT] [GAME] I'm looking for a game I played when I was just a kid.
A game I played when I was just 7, which is 9 years ago(2013, yes I'm 16.). I tried looking for it on my own but I failed. I already tried the wiki and mobygames. I used to play it on a tablet, but it broke.
Here's what I remember. The main character has pointed ears(Like an elf). It's a leveling up game with quests. The main setting is on the plains, where the castle is located. There's also a well which leads you to the mermaids but you need to do a quest before you can enter the well.
Similar to the Well, there are portals around the main area which lead you to different locations where high-leveled enemies spawn.
The part of the game that I vividly remember is the Forest Portal. The portal takes you to a forest and the enemies that spawn near the portal are pixies. There are also two camps, one for the light elves and one for the dark elves, who are at war with each other.
I still remember some but I barely can describe them. Hopefully someone has answers. Please help me find them. Even if you try that's fine. Thank you in advance.

2023.05.30 05:26 chunkadeuce elf bb cream alternative?
Please help! 30F with pale combination skin here. elf bb cream with SPF has been my go-to for the past couple of years but it looks like it's been discontinued :( I tried ordering a tube from Amazon (mistake, I know) and the one they sent me expired in 2020(!) I don't like the finish of elf's cc cream and other bb creams I've tried don't have as much coverage or go on my skin as smoothly as the elf one. I searched and found some threads here on the best bb creams generally speaking but am hoping someone has a more specific reco for one with a formula similar to elf's. Thank you!!

2023.05.30 05:18 SaltyDangerHands Patch Made an Already Hard to Play Game Worse
I really, really like this game. That fact has lead to a very, very frustrating experience.I play online with my partner, two Xboxes. The Main Campaign went fine, lot of fun, really scratched my DnD itch. Couple of bugs, but nothing game-breaking.
The Lost Valley was unplayable, huge disappointment; progress once we reached the swamp has hampered by regular, frequent crashes. The kind that would be impossible to miss with even the most cursory of quality testing.
Palace of ice was going really well, right up until a game-breaking bug. No matter how far back in saves I went, how I tried to load it, I could not get the square-key to load or progress past the experimental gate. Had the instructions, but the shelf they were on, which was also supposed to have the key according to every walkthrough I could find, nope, no key. No one else seemed to have encountered that, so I figured it was a one time thing.
My 2nd try save was literally arrival at the Teleda Ruins or whatever they were called. Now the patch. Can't load the ruins. Game hangs on the loading screen 10+ minutes, goes nowhere. Can't load it in single player, can't load it in multiplayer, can't go back to the encounters on the road and load it by traveling again, even though those saves load fine, nope. Cannot progress any further.
To say nothing of the reduced-to-4 hairstyles and the headless dragonborn that also resulted. Annoying, but whatever, could have lived with that, but I'm at three attempts to play since Main Campaign, which doesn't have a ton of replay value in my opinion, and each one has left me putting down my controller in frustration and disappointment.
I want to love this game. It's really good. But for that to actually happen, it has to work. I'm at 1/4 after sinking a not-inconsiderable amount of money into playing, and at this point I'm inclined to ask for my money back. The things they've sold me don't work, they just don't, and I'm honestly a little fed up.
My partner and I seldom find games that we both can really get into and play together. How did this patch get out the door? Did anyone try it before went live? That seems like an absurd question, but I honestly don't see how this could possibly have launched as is if anyone, anyone at all, even the fucking janitor had taken a look at it.
I'm disappointed and angry. I'm not a wealthy guy, 120-ish dollars is a fair chunk of change to me, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt after the last DLC was a total write-off, it's useless to me, there's no fun to be had there, thought maybe some lessons had been learned. Not so much, and as a result I honestly feel ripped off and taken advantage of.
I don't think these guys are going to get any more of my money. If they every release a sequel, there's no chance whatsoever I buy that until it goes on sale, and even then, I'm going to take a good, long look at the forums and feedback before I commit.
Here's hoping they're quick to address the problems. I'd love to hear some of this actually got addressed, I'd jump back in in a heartbeat if I thought it was actually going to work, like, at all.

2023.05.30 05:10 ohlordwhywhy I've rescued a bunch of 25+ year old PS1 saves, now backed up on my PC. How can I use them on emulators?
I loaded my Memory Cards with PS1 saves onto a PS2 and then from the PS2 to a USB drive through uLaunchElf.
But I don't know how to turn copied these save files into usable PS1 saves. I know it's doable coz I've done it before years ago but I've completely forgotten how.
Any tips?
Backed up these saves on like Five different cloud services, two USB drives, three drives. It's so cool to revisit these places I haven't been to in so long.

2023.05.30 05:09 HappyAgainHereAllDay Primary Residence Exception for property owned before immigration to Canada
Hello my friends,
Situation is the following:
My friends family immigrated to Canada in 2022. Both husband and wife had property (1 residential apartments each of them, 2 in total) in their country , owned it for ~7 years before immigration.
They plan to sell properties 3-4 years after immigration. These 3-4 years they would be renting apartment in Canada without owning any property here.
Could you please help with following questions:
If they would like to use Primary Residence Exception to reduce tax on possible Capital Gains that can come in case of properties costs increase between Landing Date and Selling Date:
- Does it matter where they lived before immigration to Canada for those 7 years of owning (in their apartments of somewhere else)?
- Does it mean that Primary Residence Exception would work only if each year between Landing date to Canada and properties selling date, they would live some time in their apartments for each year? They are going to visit home country to meet relatives anyway, so they would stay in their apartments.
I've found few articles saying that "seasonal residences located outside of Canada" can be principle residence if owner or his family stays there for some time each calendar year, but I can not find any exact details what "some time" means.
Here
https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/technical-information/income-tax/income-tax-folios-index/series-1-individuals/folio-3-family-unit-issues/income-tax-folio-s1-f3-c2-principal-residence.html#toc5 I can see " Even if a person inhabits a housing unit only for a short period of time in the year, this is sufficient for the housing unit to be considered ordinarily inhabited in the year by that person " - but what does it mean , "short"- how many days is it?
- Do they need to somehow claim properties as Primary Residence each year before selling it (is there a form for it?) or it only filled after the property is sold?
Thanks, I would appreciate a lot to help my friends.

Misconstruing time frames', interpretations'.
If an internet prediction guides one to a selected month, the date doesn't surface on the date of the precise prediction.
Current predictions shouldn't be discarded. If the prediction tells one that on the seventh, a natural disaster might occur, keep the probabilities open for the subsequent dates. seventeenth; twenty-seventh of that particular month.
Attention!
In sequence to misinterpreted time frames following even more questionable predictions.
Perhaps a distinct calendar may justify the misconstruing interpretations online today. From my expertise, One should positively keep the likelihood open for another intricately intertwined prediction.
Perhaps a number of the taken predictions of the Nostradamus square measure in truth misunderstood. For example, the Nostradamus foretold the city of York prediction. My thoughts are that every location around the world with the name York should be taken into consideration. My reasoning is to unfold the Nostradamus predictions. As in the city of York, Pennsylvania. The sky will burn at forty degrees right before. The prediction is currently in progress.
The first part of the prediction foretold one of the devastating 9-11 terrorist attacks.
'In the year of the new century and nine months,From the sky will come a great King of Terror...
The year of the new century and nine months signified the nine eleven attacks. From the sky a great King of terror. On September 11, 2001.
Additional possible miscalculations emerge.
My thoughts area unit that a misestimation with the Myan Calander predicted the year of 2012 misinterpreted. maybe the year 2021 is the particular year the predictions begin. 2012 - 2021. Possible chapter-ending proceeding into a new beginning.
The focus now is on protecting the planet and keeping an eye on the earth's changes. Preparing for those perhaps challenging moments in time.

2023.05.30 04:57 kelvin543234 The Brown-Skinned Elves of the Forgotten Realms
I was digging for information about the Dark Elves, not the Drow, but the brown-skinned ones. Yes, they are canon, and unfortunately, they were decimated and transformed into Drow, even those who were innocent and hadn't done anything. I was trying to find information to see if there were any other Dark Elf civilizations, but I couldn't find much. The most recent thing I could find was that the city of Rhymanthiin was restored, which was part of the Miyeritar empire that included Dark Elves and Green Elves. It was mentioned that hundreds of elves were turned back from Drow to Dark Elves. However, I couldn't find specific details about who they are. Most of the online sources seem to focus on other races and peoples involved in the restoration of Rhymanthiin. Do you guys know of any canon source that talks about them? I'm going to start reading the books that mention QƔrlynd Melarn, the only Dark Elf I have found.

2023.05.30 04:53 NameOfWokeWebsiteIs HMF the title of this book about a particular theory on Man's origins in the ocean
Okay, so, not getting into a debate on the subject itself (Lamarckian/Darwinian/intelligent-design/aliens with a test tube, which ones are 'good', if any, and to what extent and which are bad,etc.,etc.,etc..) but, something has been bugging this user for a long, long time now and just now remembered the issue:
Some fifteen-to-twenty years ago, this user was in a public library out past downtown, near the boonies, and was looking at some books outside the children's room in the general area, and on the bottom shelf was a book that jumped out at this user on the early history of Man.
It was a PICTURE-filled book, not small, not gigantic, fairly square and medium-to-medium-large in size.
Cannot recall the title nor author to save muh life.
Inside, however, this user DISTINCTLY recalls that, they posited -- again, with pictures; brilliant artwork, by the way -- there were/are three 'main' types of progenitor species to have originated in the deep, dark ocean: Man and Man's early amphibian(?) ancestors (think they said Man came from some fish that, eventually, crawled out of the ocean), SCORPIONS (according to the book, 'Man's earliest enemy'), or at least, their progenitor species, and some third-species, possibly cephalopods or something else that wasn't really a threat or seemed that menacing.
Over the next few pages, it showed the evolutionary history of Man and how Man surpassed the evolutionary history, if much at all, of the SCORPIONS and the third species, as Man crawled out of the ocean and onto land. Then it was like watching that one custom couch-gag intro to an episode of 'The Simpsons', where 'Homer' goes from fish to lemur to Neanderthal-like caveman to the Renaissance through the Industrial Age and to the living room, where 'Marge' asks 'What took yuh so long?', all while 'Moe' is going in the opposite direction.
Any ideas what this book may have been called and by whom it was authored by?
Thanks!

2023.05.30 04:45 MattH575 Not off to a hot startā¦
TL;DR: another newbie who made purchasing decisions based on aesthetics before understanding the game and after hours of thread reading my head is spinning.
Hello there. So, last week I was at a goodwill and found an unopened BTA-NR2 Y-Wing pack for $10. My friends have slowly been getting me into tabletop stuff and I like Star Wars so I decided āwhy notā. I discovered that a 2.0 core set would be helpful so I found one for sub-$30 on eBay and itās coming in tomorrow. Snagged a TIE Advanced off of Amazon with the thought of ācool, that will round out 3 ships for each team and Iāll be all setā. I then threw in the āGuardians of the Republicā set just because I like the thought of a head canon ādefective clones and post-66 jedi standing their ground fighting off the new empireā thing.
Today I decided to look at the Y-wing box and this is where things fell apart. The resistance logo, while similar to the rebellion logo, is in fact NOT the rebellion logo. So now Luke is flying solo and two y-wings are doing resistance y-wing things. While panic reading about what to do there, I also came across multiple threads informing me that the biggest advantage of V19s is that they share a box with the Delta-7.
I havenāt even looked at what the internet might say about what Iāve tried to cook up with the imperials.
2.0 vs 2.5 on top of everything else has made my head start to spin.
This post is just me throwing up my hands and admitting that I have no clue what Iām doing and itās time to ask the X-Wing Reddit community for help before I throw more money at what I think might work.
To recap, my current shelf looks like:
Rebels: T-65 X-Wing
Imps: 2x TIE/In Fighter, TIE Advanced
Resistance: 2x BTA-NR2 Y-Wing
Republic: 2x V-19 Torrents, Delta-7 Aethersprite.
I donāt have any grand designs on being at the next major tournament or anything, but Iād like to be able to bring this to game night some time and have a good evening with my friends while still staying somewhat true to the rules.
Do I at least have the base of anything playable here, or am I still far off the path? I donāt mind spending more to get somewhere, but Iām just hoping I havenāt burnt $80 on stuff that isnāt even worth putting on the table.
Any suggestions/recommendations on where I can go from here would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance (and sorry for the long post)
