I have a triban 520 grvl and while it is a very good speccd bike for the price, the Trp hy rd brakes are driving me crazy. I really wanted to like them, but they just wouldnt work properly despite regular servicing. Do you think it's worth upgrading them to something fully hydraulic (which would probably cost around 400 euros) or just sell the Triban and buy a better bike?

Sorry, this is my first AITA post and English is not my first language.
So I (42F) and my DH (54M) have been invited to a wedding that will take place in September. We got the invite because the bride-to-be is the daughter of one of my husband's childhood friends.
These 4 guys have been friends for their whole lives and I respect that. They meet weekly at a pub where they share their stuff and wives do not attend. I'm more than ok with that: we don't really have much in common and they have a strong bond after so many years. I couldn't care less. I mean, if it was the son of other of his friends, I would happily attend: we're not close friends but the wife and I used to meet because we share some hobbies and would bond over that (we don't any more due to our work schedules). But this friend in particular I find simply disgusting: he's a Mr. Know-it-all, misoginistic, attention seeker... You name it. He's the actual reason I've kept my distance from all of them. The wife is a huge gossip, like if you want to know whatever is going on she is your person. And I simply can't. I don't want to go at all, I've met the bride-to-be a couple of times, I don´t know the groom, the wedding will take place somewhere 1 hour away from where we live... Like I don't want to go, BUT my husband does.
He knows how I feel about this particular friend, and he says it's up to me to decide but the way he talked about the whole thing, I know he really wants to go. I actually asked him directly the day after we got the invitation and he admitted he would really like to attend. Ok, so be it. We are going to a wedding, I guess.
Now, onto the question: where we live, wedding registries are not a common thing, so they don't have one. Usually, guests to a wedding give money as a gift, the amount depends on many factors, and it should at least cover the cost of the food per guest. We are talking 300€ to 400€ for two people at least. They're getting married in an expensive area. I know because when we were preparing our wedding we checked venues there as well (it's a beautiful area) and 15 years ago we found out it would cost us 180€ to 240€ per person and I guess it's now more expensive.
So, I've heard they're renovating a house to go live there and I know money always comes in handy, but I just don't feel comfortable giving such an amount, so WIBTA if I buy something they can use at home instead? I was thinking of a Roomba or a kitchen robot or something of the sort. I mean, in the end I'd be spending a similar amount of money either way, so I don't really know what to do. I don't want to be seen as petty, and I have nothing against this couple. It's just the fact that he is involved that makes me hate everything about this wedding.
Should I just give them the money or is getting a nice gift for the house enough?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 30 inch (or larger) monitor on which an image can occasionally be edited or a small video can be cut. My buget is 400-500€(If there were a monitor that is 600€ but it was completely superior to the others, that's ok too). Thanks a lot for your suggestions:)

I’m looking to formulate an erythritol-stevia 1:1 blend but I’m struggling to find an adequate ratio of erythritol to stevia. Looking at blends online, it seems that the amount of steviol glycosides used is all over the place.
One patent filed by McNeil Nutritionals (former Splenda manufacturer) recommends the range of 400:1 to 700:1 with stevia as Reb-A 95+%, or 0.14-0.25% by weight. According to them, this specific range both reduce the cooling effect of erythritol and masks the bitterness of stevia, and it has a sweetness equivalency with sugar of 1.27-1.5x respectively. A quick calculation using the examples in the patent suggests that 0.09% would achieve 1:1 equivalency.
This is consistent with the manufacturer Hamburg Fructose’s <= 0.2% Reb-A blend, specifically 0.1% according to this reseller. On the other hand, the British manufacturer H Plus uses <= 0.5% Reb-A 97+% and the German Stevia Group uses 1% Reb-A 98+%.
1:1 blends from other retailers range from 0.1% to 0.3% steviol glycosides without specifying which kind they use (Go-Keto: 0.1%, Koro: 0.25%, Castello: 0.3%), although 0.3% can be sold as twice as sweet as sugar.
I know that “steviol glycosides” is a broad denomination for anything going from stevia leaf extracts (e.g. containing 60+% Reb-A), Reb-A 80-98% extracts, Reb-D and Reb-M to enzyme-modified glycosides, so it is impossible to tease out which one is used in a blend if it isn’t clearly specified. But it is pretty confusing that even when it is specified, as in the above examples with Reb-A 97-98%, there is such a wide discrepancy in the erythritol-stevia ratio.
I suppose that there is no other way to figure it out than to experiment with different ratios? I think I’ll go with Reb-A 97+% since it is reportedly one of the less bitter extracts.

Notes: Our reality didn’t have a person who we would know as John Doe, but this John Doe and his shades were transported here because they were standing at the epicenter of the destruction of Freedom Tower, as there was no Freedom Tower in any of their Universes. Along with that, main John Doe is the only one who was unsuccessful in life in comparison to his shades. If you include his shades, John Doe has been on every seat in the courtroom.
Meta Notes: My sister came to me with the idea to create a character who was a failure, but was the only thing tethering his other much more successful versions to this world. With some work we come to a deck with very situational cards that can be played “accidentally” with a forced top of deck play.
Gameplay vision: This deck relies on 2 things:

• The shades that keep the main John Doe safe and deal damage.
• The main power forces you to play the top card of your deck which can sometimes be detrimental by causing you to destroy your shades.

Hello everyone! I stumbled across this sub a few weeks back, and seeing how it had been inactive for several years and the only moderator was long gone I decided I wanted to try and revive it. I thought a great way to kick off bringing the sub back online was to make an introductory post for new collectors and those curious about Death Cards.
What is a Death Card?
Death Cards (or sterbebild/sterbebilder) are remembrance cards that are printed by the families of the deceased and given out at funerals. It is a tradition that goes back centuries throughout much of the Christian world, but is particularly strong in Germany. Of particular interest to military historians and collectors are cards relating to soldiers killed during WW1 and WW2. These will often have photos of the soldier in uniform, as well as information about their service, medals, and occasionally their units. With the advent of the internet and access to military records through Ancestry, it is now possible to do a large amount of research on these cards which wasn't possible even a few short years ago. They can be particularly important to historians as they can tie names and faces of regular soldiers to specific battles, as well as showing what units were operating where.

These seem pretty cool! Are they expensive? Where can I get one?
Death Cards are fairly affordable, especially in the realm of WW2 Militaria. A "standard" death card from WW2 can be found and purchased for $5 or less on US Ebay, and are even more affordable if you are willing to take a dive into German Ebay. Cards get progressively more expensive based on a variety of factors, but one can reasonably amass a varied beginner collection for $100.

I purchased some cards, now how do I research them?
There are a variety of resources that can be used to research death cards. The ones that I generally use can be found on the sidebar of this sub. Below is my general process for researching cards:

1. Use Google Translate to translate the card text. Obviously if you can read German this isn't an issue, but even after years of studying these I still can't read much German. Over time though you do get better at identifying words and phrases which is beneficial. The bulk of the text on the card most likely consists of prayers or poems, but some cards include brief biographies about the individual as well.
2. Next, I check Ancestry to see if I can locate the casualty record for the soldier. An Ancestry subscription is a vital tool for research, but if you aren't willing to pay for it some libraries have Ancestry access that you can use. Not all cards will pull casualty records, so don't be surprised if you can't find anything. Most of these records will have their information filled out manually, meaning you are now dealing with German cursive handwriting, most likely using Sutterlin or another no longer taught style. Even modern Germans may have difficulty reading this. As such they can be quite confusing at first glance, but there is a pretty good introductory guide here..
   
3. After my Ancestry search I will go to the Volksbund website and search their records. Volksbund is the organization that maintains a lot of the German military cemeteries throughout Europe, so their records are incredibly useful. If you are able to locate a record for a particular card you should be able to get a location of death, as well as information on where the soldier is buried or is believed to be buried.
   
4. If I find a casualty record for a soldier, I use Lexikon der Wehrmacht der Wehrmacht to find information on the unit. This site is an incredible resource, as it contains hyperlinks to other units. For example, if the casualty record lists a particular regiment, you can look the regiment up and then find the link to the page about the Division it served under.
   

This is the basic process, but it usually leads to a rabbit hole of researching obscure battles and trying to find a random village in Eastern Europe that has the same name as 300 other villages. It's a lot of fun if you like research, and some cards have kept me busy for hours.

Alright, my cards are researched! Now how do I preserve and display them?
The best way to preserve your cards is to store them in archival quality plastic sleeves, like the kind they use for baseball cards. These can be found easily on Amazon or similar sites, and are pretty affordable. Definitely verify that they are archival or acid free. Non archival plastic sleeves can actually fuse with or degrade items overtime, which can obviously be catastrophic for your collection. I have been using these archival sleeves for years on my cards with no issues, and they can be easily stored in a binder to flip through and show to friends.
While this is great for preservation, it does leave a bit to be desired on the display front. For that I use a digital frame where I've uploaded scans of my cards. It's really convenient because you can set it to slideshow and have the entire collection displayed with minimal loss of space. Speaking of scans, a document scanner is a great tool if you collect any paper items. It allows you to create a "backup" of the item that can be used for research without handling the original, as well as allowing you to share them easily on a forum like this one. Plus, if something happens to the original card, the digital facsimile lives on, so the information is not lost. A decent flatbed scanner can be found on Amazon for around $100.

Where do I go from here?
From here, the sky is basically the limit! When I started collecting these back in 2017 I had no idea how to research them, and now here I am. I believe I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 cards, I have videos of over 100 of them on my Youtube channel, and I am not stopping any time soon. Obviously, my case is a tad extreme, but hopefully you come to enjoy the preservation and research of these cards as you embark on your collecting journey. Happy collecting!
