When I come here for my occasional perusing of urban-planning discussion, I sometimes see posts from people curious about this sub's opinions on motor racing (F1 in particular). While there aren't that many of these posts, I felt like there was enough discussion within those posts to elaborate on it. After all, given the global nature of F1 and the economics that go into it, I feel like it's a good way to discuss a country's attitude towards car dependency, what certain places get right or wrong when planning for large events like an F1 GP, and how F1's business practices can perpetuate car dependency/car-centric culture. As someone who's enjoyed using transit for as long as I can remember and as an F1 fan (hypocritical, I know), I figured this would be an interesting discussion.

1. Car-centric (or transit/bike-centric) planning within a race: Here I want to talk about the transportation situation behind F1 races. Since people often compare American sporting venues to European ones here, let's talk about the same for an F1 race:
   1. Good examples of transit-planning in F1 (I can think of 3 examples off the top of my head):
      1. Dutch GP (Zandvoort, NL): The most popular example of how an F1 race can be transit and bike-accessible is the Dutch city of Zandvoort. Predictably, cycling is a well-utilized mode of transport for this race, with reservable bike parking. Out of the 70k attendees in 2021, 25k biked, and 27k used the train to Zandvoort aan Zee station to get there. Zandvoort also implemented traffic-limiting measures to not flood the small city with cars. F1 organizers seem rather proud of this, stating in the race intro cinematic that only 2% of attendees showed up in a car. Although this stat is probably exaggerated to some extent, it does show that even car races can be biked to and be served well by transit.
      2. Japanese GP (Suzuka, Mie, JP): Another example of a transit-accessible F1 race is the Japanese GP in Suzuka, a fan-favorite event. IMO this is an example of how transit can be implemented for massive annual events like this one. Both Ise Railway (The local rail provider) and Mie Transport provide direct service to the circuit's train station and bus services respectively on race weekends. Although I couldn't find any statistics, footage of rail service during race weekends, and this 18-minute video of just busses heading out to go to the circuit show that local agencies in the area take transit seriously during this.
      3. Canadian GP (Montreal, Quebec, CA): Ironically, one of the better examples of transit-accessible F1 venues is in car-centric North America. The circuit (Circuit Gilles Villeneuve) is within the confines of the Parc Jean-Drapeau, served by STM's yellow metro line (btw, why is the yellow line so short?). Since there is zero spectator parking at the venue, the most effective option to get there is via. the metro station. F1 themselves even discourage driving to the circuit, instead directing visitors to use the metro. I attended this race back in June and I can attest to the number of people simultaneously going to the metro station. It definitely was a moshpit but still beats sitting in traffic for 2 weeks. I've heard some complaints from locals here that the event tends to attract people with loud vehicles to the city center. Although I do believe that F1 being in the city contributes to this, I feel like this can be solved through the city rethinking its attitude towards cars rather than rejecting F1 as a whole. Looking at the event in a vacuum though, the Canadian GP is a pleasant departure from the norm in North America. (P.S. Montreal's metro was fantastic from my experience. Good service, (relatively) clean stations, and attractive rolling stock all contributed to a pleasant experience. Would love to have something like it where I live.)
   2. Bad examples of transit-planning in F1 (For every good example, there are of course the bad examples):
      1. United States GP (Austin, Texas, US): It's in Texas, should be self-explanatory at this stage. There is a shuttle from downtown, but given that this is Texas, I suppose there is a reason why most people opt to drive. The abundance of surface parking will probably make most people here write home to their families in terror. Some portions of the broadcast are highly distracting due to 60% of the frame containing parking lots rather than racing. This place, combined with Gigafactory Austin being nearby, makes this area a cathedral for anti-human design that perfectly shows the problems that the US has with stuff like this.
      2. British GP (Silverstone, UK): A somewhat tamer version of what can be seen in Austin, but still far from ideal, as a significant portion of the attendees, shows up by car. Although shuttles are available from Milton Keynes, it's still a 22-minute drive from the station to the circuit. The local campgrounds built to house visitors don't exactly help the local traffic given that most of them are car-centric. Other races, including The Hungarian GP (Budapest, HU), have similar campgrounds that have the same issues of car-centrism, and events like the Spanish GP in Barcelona have transit issues that reflect that even in Europe, there is work that can be done to reduce car-usage during large events.
   3. Miscellaneous examples: Miami and Las Vegas are 2 recent US additions to the F1 calendar that can tell us a lot about the US's car-dependent nature. While Miami isn't terribly car-centric as an event, the fact that the track was built on what was the parking lot of the Hard Rock Stadium shows how much space stadiums in the US allocate to cars. While little is known about the Las Vegas race as of now (set to take place in November 2023), the fact that they're going to be racing down the strip shows how unnecessarily wide the roads down the LV strip are.
2. Ways F1 perpetuates car dependency and car culture: Although I adore F1, I have to admit that it has done an extremely poor job in terms of sustainability, and it certainly does not help with the prevalence of car culture within society. Here are some things that I think contribute to this:
   1. Glorification of fossil fuels:
      1. Almost every F1 team has a petroleum partner (i.e. Mercedes & Petronas, Red bull & Mobil1, Ferrari & Shell, Alpine & Castrol/BP, Aston Martin & Aramco, Williams & Gulf). Beyond that, F1's dependence on Arabian oil money (particularly with their strategic partnership with Aramco and the subsequent introduction of the Saudi Arabian GP) has been hugely contentious lately, and are testament to the sport's dependency on fossil fuel advertising. It's logical, but advertising petroleum isn't exactly going to do wonders for reducing car dependency and the consequences of climate change. Much like with tobacco advertising in F1 though, I feel like the complete eradication of oil advertising can help mitigate this issue, but unfortunately, I feel like so long as middle-east money is a part of F1, it will only do more harm than good.
      2. Back in 2013, Greenpeace organized a protest at the Belgium race, mainly advocating against Shell's involvement in F1. So people are very much aware of the impact that F1 has on the fossil fuel market. Some have also used F1 races as a platform to advocate against fossil fuel investments, including Just Stop Oil's track invasion during the 2022 British GP.
      3. While we're on the topic of Arab Oil Cash, it's also important to note the human rights abuses some middle eastern countries have committed. Much like the world cup, I feel like the recent additions of ME races (i.e. Qatar), serve as distractions from the realities of these countries. Again, this is something that fans and even some drivers acknowledge and condemn, I'm afraid it'll be a part of the sport unless the very concept of bribery and corruption ceases to exist.
   2. Glorification of cars:
      1. Out of the 10 F1 teams, 5 are directly owned by an automaker, with 8 having significant ties with one. While I don't think this has as much of an impact as fossil fuel advertising, I know many (especially here) are upset about the glorification of cars in advertising.

So a little background: when we met, I was renting in the city and my wife had a small house in the suburbs. When things got serious I moved in with her and paid half the mortgage/ bills.
We got engaged and started planning the wedding / a family etc .. and looking for a bigger house.
We also agreed that when we moved, my wife would go down to part time working and take care of the house whilst we were decorating/ trying to start a family etc ... All mutually agreed and not instigated by me.
Now, the issue .. whenever we are talking about the house she always feels the need to say "I paid the majority of the deposit and it's because of me we got the house". Which, technically, is correct. She did pay 60% of the deposit.
But she got ignores that the reason I didn't have the other 10% to go 50/50 is because I paid for the wedding, all of the furniture, all of the moving and storage costs, I replaced her broken car with a much safer one and paid off her credit card so that we had more mortgage options.
The expenses were nearly £30k.
So yes, you did pay 60% of the deposit, but if we factor in the above it's much closer to 35% and I am paying 100% of the bills and mortgage.
None of the above was done begrudgingly. She is my wife and we had a very open discussion about our finances, who could contribute where and what the other would do to compensate so that we function as a happy team.
But now it feels like she is trying to give the impression to others that I am somehow free loading off her? or that I couldn't have done this without her?
It feels like it's coming from a place of insecurity. I know she has concerns around being seen as a "kept woman" and we do have very different incomes. But I don't see it like that, it's "our" money regardless of whose job it came from. We are married and a team.
We have talked about that and I always immediately correct anyone who implies that.
It just feels a bit shitty that I have prioritised putting "us" on a level footing and starting this new life together but she seems intent on somehow coming out on top or being "more equal" than me.
How do you even approach that?
TL;DR: Wife implies to others that our new life is down to her and ignores that the majority of it came from me. Whenever we talk it's "us" and teamwork but with others it's not.

The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).

As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months. Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Thor: Love and Thunder, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now. Money Shot: The Pornhub Story came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grasses and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact ) , which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's Money Shot: The Pornhub Story to grossing four times it's $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget, though a number of international markets have yet to open. Finishing up the top five is Smile, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and a global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million. The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Money Shot: The Pornhub Story opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh-place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8 million. Scatter

My mom and dad live down the road from each other. They’ve been separated since I was young but my dad still will hang out at our house.
My mom isn’t here and my dad came over for supper. I originally just payed for food for me, my boyfriend, and brother but I bought more so it was fine for him to eat. I picked up food from my work and brought it home.
Once he was here, his friend pulled in with his wife and their two dogs. He offered to let he and his wife eat and they drank almost a bottle of my mom’s rum. My boyfriend pretty much just ate and went to our room. I kept wanting them to leave but my dad kept asking for more rum and they kept talking. My boyfriend was annoyed and asking when they’d leave and I also just wanted them to go. They were there until 11:30, and I have to get up to work tomorrow.
I don’t really like his friend and he’s always loud and obnoxious. At 11, he went into my room and yelled my boyfriend’s name and told him to get up and drink. He was drunk / joking and asking what his intentions are, etc.
I told him not to bug him but he did anyway. He’s 71 and was drunk and I went in right after because I thought he’d be angry. He was furious and wanted to fight him. He’s been saying how much he hates my dad and his friend for the past hour and he wants to fight them, etc.
I hate his friend and think they were super rude but I don’t want my boyfriend to get so angry or dislike my dad.
TL:DR: My dad invited his friend for dinner and he was rude to my boyfriend. Now my boyfriend is furious at them and I don’t know what to do.

First off…ugggggghhhh 😭
I’m just going to jump into it, I’m currently in Miami for Ultra music weekend. Been out and having fun with friends and then we made a move to the main stage (right side) to watch Afrojack, Zedd, and Martin Garrix (all who were incredible) and during that time I made friends with this incredibly attractive and fun guy. He was 5’6ish, Latino,had brownish reddish hair, and wearing a cute button down that was beige with squiggly black lines all over it (didnt seem like it was any particular pattern) and just normal athletic shorts. Describing him just in case he is on here 😅. But basically we were just dancing all night but the problem was I wasn’t sure if he was gay or open! We kept making eye contact but he would quickly look away and then come back and make eye contact! I tried making conversation and it was kept short, but we were smiley having a good time.
He was dancing with his friends and then I would be dancing with mine even though we were next to each other and we would keep stealing glances but wouldn’t last more than a second or two. He eventually got in front of me because of the crowd and it seeeeemed like he was barely turning his head to check if I was still nearby but never initiated anything. I kept thinking I should ask him, but I didn’t want to weird him out or make the rest of the night awkward cause we were so close to the main stage and there was no way we would move.
I was lightly touching his back and arm and he didn’t seem to mind but I just told myself to quit it as I didn’t want to make it awkward.
Finally the show is over and my friends are already breaking for the exit. But before I go I told him “Have a great time at Ultra! Also you’re very cute” 🤦‍♂️
Before I can even hear what his response was I turned and ran towards my friends. All I was thinking was “that was stupid why did you say that!” I think what lead me to say it was that I wanted to tell him the entire night and at that point it’s over and it can’t be awkward or weird. If anything I hope i made his night! But the whole rest of the night I have been dealing with this overwhelming feeling of regret. I should have asked him and talked to him more and figured out if he was interested or open. I shouldn’t have “dine and dash”
TLDR Met cute guy, danced all night, didn’t know if he was gay/open. Was too nervous to ask and at the end of the show said “you’re super cute” and ran away to catch up with my friends who were leaving without me 🤦‍♂️
PS: I was completely sober the entire time and he wasn’t drinking but I don’t know if he’s taken anything.

This is long so go to the bottom where I describe my dream or read what I say first.
I watched Jurassic Park a lot because I love dinosaurs but I never got scared of them. The movie was about wonder and action and a thriller but it’s counterpart is not.
The book version is terrifying, the most terrifying thing of the book is the velociraptors. I enjoy learning about any animal that has high intelligence. When the book talks about the raptors it depicts them as intelligent, dangerous animals. There’s a moment in the book where Dr.Sattler is trying to distract the raptors on the other side of the fence so Dr.Grant and Gutierrez can restore power to the fences because many animals escaped during the storm the raptors included. When Sattler was running back and fourth behind the fence to distract the raptors Dr.Wu realized they weren’t trying to get her but seemed to be toying with her. He ran outside to worn her but the moment he stepped outside to tell her to run back inside a raptor dropped down from the roof of the building slashing his stomach open and eating him alive.
When the raptors on the other side saw this they ran back into the jungle to look for more survivors. They set a trap and the humans fell for it.
After reading the novel I had dream where my family and I were staying in a large air-BNB at night in a forest when I see something run through the trees from the window. Shortly after electricity is gone from the home and we rush downstairs to see why and I could see bright green eyes among some bushes outside staring at us. Morning suddenly appeared and we are looking for some power grid, while we’re on a trail my little brother gets grabbed by raptors and is lost to the forest I could hear his screams which still disturbs me. We run back to the house but everyone gets picked off but me. I run to the backyard where there a safe house for some reason, but the door to it look like a steering wheel on a ship you can’t to swing it sideways and the door drops down like a draw bridge. It’s lol to the grouch though so u have to crouch to get it and the roof is low so u have to have your knees to your head. I close the door and moments later I hear a clicking along with snarls. Then the noise stops and it’s replaced with the sound of the door turning it was scary. The door drops and it was night again the faint moonlight showed the legs of a raptor and it turned to the door and ducked down to look at me and all I saw was it’s glowing eyes and that’s when I woke up.
Now im going to read ‘The lost world’ the next book wish me luck :)

I just found out a few hours ago my (21F) boyfriend (22M) cheated on me. Nothing physical (that I know of) just texts and pictures that I found. We’ve been together for almost 5.5 years so I am devastated. He has cheated before 5 years ago and I said if he ever did it again we’re done. I never expected this to be an issue this far into the future. We have been talking about getting engaged for about a year and had our future planned out. We live together (I own a house that his name is not on because I said I didn’t want to co-own if we weren’t married) and have dogs together. We also work in the same department of our hospital and have for 2.5 years. His family also works at the hospital and I am like a 4th child to his parents; they helped me through so much as a teenager and I will forever be thankful. We have all of the same friends and do everything together. I was planning on telling him to move out tomorrow morning but I’m so worried about how much of our lives are joined together and the fact that he has been my one and only love my entire young adult life I just need some advice. Tonight, I go to heat up dinner and as soon as the microwave starts, breaker trip. First thought is annoyance (this tripped about 4 weeks ago on the microwave for seemingly no reason but didn’t repeat until now). I set the breaker and it indicated an arc fault as the trip condition same as last month. Except this time as soon as I start the microwave it trips again.
After the third time I give up and go to the downstairs microwave on a completely different branch. It trips immediately as well, first time for that one. Except this one won’t let me set it again, keeps tripping as soon as I flip it without the microwave.
I start digging through everything powered on in the house (not much) and when I’m out back I randomly see my wife left an outdoor extension cord plugged in and running into the yard with nothing plugged at its end. It has since started raining heavily, so I yank it and roll it up, not really thinking anything. This outdoor outlet is on the same branch as the upstairs Microwave (some code violating DIY from the last owners in the 90s).
I go back in having only unplugged this one empty wet cord and suddenly I can reset the one breaker and now both microwaves work fine.
If the water had shorted or even allowed arcing from this cord, shouldn’t it have tripped on its own? Why tied to the microwave? And why did it impact both microwaves? One was on the branch which makes some sense, but the other is completely different. Problem seems solved several hours later, but I’m curious to understand if someone can explain why better? I obviously know leaving wet cords disconnected out in the yard is never good.
tl;dr An extension cord left in the hard plugged in with nothing on the end got rain wet and started tripping separate AFCI breakers for both microwaves.

I got dumped, and it really hurts! I still read the text messages and stalk his instagram, even though I know I shouldn't. I haven't been able to leave my house, I've cried a couple a times at work and college. Since it's spring break, I've been in my bed crying my eyes out; I've even fallen on the floor a couple times while crying. I cried so hard that I throw up twice, I cried so hard that people knocked on the door to ask if someone was dying, and I cried so hard that my eyes were almost swollen shut! I went out the first time yesterday and I cried the entire time! People actually came up to me, to ask if I was okay. But I just couldn't keep it in, I tried really hard; but the tears wouldn't stop!
However, today I still cried.... But not as much, I even feel better and it's actually kind of scary! Is this the eye of the storm, before something really bad happens and I go back to crying my eyes again? But I actually laughed so many times today! And smiled! I still feel bad, and I feel a good cry coming on right now. But...... I'm starting to see the light at the end of tunnel, this is weird! :)
TL;DR! I Got dumped and I'm crying about it. Is it normal that I'm starting to feel better?

So, tomorrow my baby brother turns 15. He's the youngest of 5. I'm the only other kid still living at home, as I'm 18 and saving to move out.
And....he's been having a REALLY rough couple of weeks. He's going through that "I hate my parents they suck" phase alongside the "I just want to be good enough for my family" phase the exact same way I did when I was in middle school and it is, tearing him apart. And my parents. Are not helping him the way they should. My dad argues with him all the time and mocks him for not being around much, or sleeping all day, when in reality- he's not home much because he feels emotionally safer with his friends and he sleeps all day at home because he's fucking depressed.
And every time my dad tries to get my mom to do a drop of parenting she blows up about how "she always has to be the bad guy because he doesnt know how to parent properly" and it just ends with my brother hating himself and me sliding more money from my paycheck into my savings hoping I can get out of here faster because I'm so fucking done with listening to their marriage fall apart.
And alright, to cut my parents a LITTLE slack on the gift thing, they are broke as FUCK right now. But the bills are paid and there's food in the house, so its not like "we hate our lives" broke, it's just "we're short on cash until monday when the check hits the bank". But the thing that bugs me is that, we have baking mixes in the cupboard. There's plenty of food in the house to cook with. We legit have everything we need to make a cake in the pantry right now. And my parents both had all of today off. And did nothing. My brother was at school and then spent all day (and is staying the night) at a friend's place. And they didn't even think to, idk, make a batch of cookies? make some lazy cupcakes? SOMETHING for his birthday? No...breakfast. No lunch idea. No fun dinner for him. I get it, they're broke, they can't buy a gift, but that doesnt mean effort has to go completely out the window.
I got home from work today and went to 3 stores to get his gift together, on top of personal grocery shopping. And while talking to my mother about it- I learned that grandma's gift to him was the deodorant she had bought for me and him earlier this week (some lume stuff that I really needed but he didnt need. He was pretty disappointed when he opened it early this week.), and our oldest sister forgot about his birthday and was just gonna venmo him a little money later next week.
Im the only person actually getting him a physical gift he can open on his birthday. So, upon learning all of this, I made sure to make it fun. A couple years back when he was big into his video games, I would buy him a playstation card, candy, and a drink, and make him a "gamer gift box" for holidays and birthdays and he LOVED IT to DEATH. He got so excited, because instead of just getting him a card for the playstation store, I would get him his favorite soda and his favorite candy and snacks and he'd have this box of goodies he could enjoy with whatever he bought with his ps4 money. So. Instead of a gamer gift box. For his birthday I made him a gift basket, just themed around things he liked, centered around his major gift.
He's at that age where its hard to buy for him so most people just give him money. But I know this upsets him because he stills wants to enjoy his birthday. Its?? sad and boring to just open a card with 20 bucks?? There's no joy in it. Just 'here kid I dont know your interests or care about them, here's 20 bucks buy ya own damn gift' So. I got him a prepaid visa card. I got him a football bucket (its like an easter basket but its like a bucket and he needs a small bucket for trash anyways) and some protein shakes, his favorite tea, two kinds of his favorite candy, marshmallow peeps, and a card. I arranged it real nice with the visa card hidden at the bottom so he can dig through his little fun gifts to find his big gift.
And I was only gonna give him like 15-20 bucks, so he could go and eat lunch with some friends or something. I wanted to keep his gift under 50. But then I found out that no one else really got him a gift. And I got fucking pissed off. So I got him a 60 dollar prepaid visa gift card. And made sure to write about how proud I am of the young man he's growing into on his card. And even though I cant wrap it I covered the basket with a paper bag and stuck a bow on it. And I'm gonna give him a big hug and make sure he knows I love him tomorrow. And I'm fucking getting up early to make him cookies and maybe a birthday cake so he has something nice to come home to. Because our parents gave up on my birthdays after I turned 10 because I had undiagnosed autism and couldn't make friends that would show up to my birthdays and because I gave up on ever having a birthday party they just stopped giving a shit about me and I fucking refuse to let my little brother live with that same disappointment.
TL:DR : My whole family is basically ignoring my brother's 15th birthday and I'm so pissed about it that I'm gonna make sure it's a great day for him.

I’m from the Boston area and I’m strongly considering moving to the DMV particularly Arlington VA, DC, or Bethesda MD. I visited DC for two days and I completely fell in love with the city. I’ve visited a good amount of cities and my visit to DC was by far one of my favorite trips (behind Miami Beach). It reminded me a lot of Boston and I felt right at home the moment I entered the city. It had a great balance of walkable urban living with lots of parks and access to greenery. It felt like a booming city despite not having any skyscrapers which I loved. The nightlife was surprisingly really good as well which took me by surprise.
However, I know that visiting and living in a city are two completely different things. My main concern is what are the cons of living in this area that I should consider? And how does this area compare to the Boston area? The cost of living, harsh winters, and terrible housing market are making me want to leave Boston. Would the DMV be a better option ?

TL/DR: My husband needs to have a few drinks each day, without fail, and I'm worried it's becoming a problem. Especially because alcoholism runs in his family and mine. Looking for advice on how to approach him.

My husband and I have been together for 12 years now. We met when we were young, post-college, newly employed adults and would often drink with friends on the weekends. That tapered off once we all started getting married and having kids. My husband's one parent struggles with addiction, so he's always maintained that he wants to be careful he never slips into that and follow their patterns. They did not and continue to not make life easy for those around them. Tobacco was a struggle for my husband to quit, but I never thought he had an alcohol problem until recently.
He has a few beers or a few glasses of wine every night. Without fail. He will even crack a beer or two early in the day (not a lite beer, a high alcohol content beer), check if I'll mind driving, before we have a family activity or a youth sports game in an hour or two. I've thought maybe I just have different assumptions about alcohol and maybe his attitude is healthier? I tend to feel like if I'm having drinks, I'm having drinkkkks. Mind you, I drink less than once a month, and these days having two/three glasses of wine is a lot for me (a far cry from my party days). But I would never at 11 AM, when I have a full family day, think I should have a couple of glasses of wine right now.
If he is stressed or if we get into a serious discussion or an argument, he will storm to the fridge and crack a beer. Even if he was just about to go to sleep. Almost as a signal that I've caused him to drink? Or that I am causing him stress and he needs to drink? He sees a therapist and has for years. He regularly, throughout our marriage, would say he feels like alcohol prevents him from sleeping well and adds to his anxiety so he would stop for periods of time or not drink during the week, only on weekends. Now, he will drink random things in the house if he doesn't have beer because he "needs" to have a drink. It relaxes him, etc. (Random things like a bottle of champagne we had, or a random frozen daiquiri thing that was in our freezer for a long time or tito's I had bought for a girls' night that we barely touched lol)
If he's under the weather and not feeling well, he will still have a few beers/glasses of wine/whiskey/whatever each night (never lite beers). He acts shocked or annoyed when I suggest that maybe he should take cold medicine or not have the drink in case he gets worse/induces a migraine. Based on his reactions, and I never ask in a judgy way, truly, sometimes I'm just genuinely surprised because I'd end up feeling like death (getting older has definitely increased hangovers for me which is partly why I just don't drink very much these days), I'm worried about approaching him about this. But, lately I feel like his defensiveness at a single question leads me to believe he is doing something wrong and he knows it.
Probably important info I should add: My father was a high-functioning alcoholic. He had some chronic health issues and for whatever reason felt like drinking alcohol at night to help him sleep/numb pain was better than taking pain medicine seek other treatments. He passed a way a few years ago and we were very close. I'm just noticing that some of my husband's behaviors mimic my father's when I was younger and that, while I loved my dad, he drank too much during my childhood as well. We just had early bedtimes and didn't notice until we were older. And once we were of age, it was fun having a few drinks with him because he really was such a fun person. But not always. And I know my mother struggled with it as well. She would often make comments, especially toward the end, about his drinking and comments about when we were growing up that I never thought of before. I've been working with my therapist on my feelings toward my dad and his death, but I've not brought up my husband because I never thought I'd be here, repeating the cycle and I'm almost embarrassed in a way?
I guess, I just need advice. Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Is it normal to have a few drinks every night? How do I approach him? I'm afraid he's going to throw a bad habit of mine in my face. I just feel like our communication has been terrible lately, but I don't want to keep living like this. I wouldn't mind if he didn't blatantly use it as stress relief every night or in the middle of a disagreement. It just feels unhealthy. Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh yes that is right you don't know what the dungeon is. Or the cycle. Some come willing, some come unwilling. No matter what the couse when you find the way in, you don't get out. The dungeon is a huge maze with portals, and other things for me to expirement with. I have not told you my name. It is Dr. Anthony Recardo, and I am a Irish scients who was makeing weapons with Earth Core, or E.C, as I call it. Okay the cycle is something may sound confuseing untle you here how it works. So here goes nothing. The cycle goes like this. A person, like you, enters the dungeon, weather for a contest or not, you gon in, and just like that you are stuck in here with no way out. You make your way through the dungeon, and when you are about to die you fall through a portal, and are revived and are back in the beginging with most of you're memorys of your last go through of the dungeon, and anything with you. I wander. I don't know where I am. I thought that I had an eniter map of the dungeon but I was wronge. There are many monsters in the dungeon. I sit in my house most of the time, and when I do explore I find nothing. One of the mosters, or bosses I should say, is the Skeleton Master. And he has the Index. The Index has all the info I need. Like the info of my creations Dr.Recardo’s jurnal entry one. The reason I am writting in this second jurnal is beacouse the man named a Raptor Aptor had found his way into, and outof the dungeon. He took my jurnal, and the Bartender says he is selling it. Great all I need is some
