2023.05.29 14:57 trash_void_ Actually making a serious attempt to quit drinking, need advice
After many half-attempts at quitting drinking over the past two years, I (24M) am going to make a serious attempt at not drinking anymore. I'm currently two days sober. I have a decent life, all things considered (I have a degree, a good job, enough money, etc.), but I have a terrible binge drinking problem. I essentially spend all of my weekends either preparing to drink, black-out drunk, or recovering from the resulting hangover. I've already messed up; I was supposed to stop this week, but I decided to have one last bender on Saturday and I ended up getting blackout and saying and doing a lot of regrettable things. I spent all of yesterday shaking and feeling nauseous. I did manage to go hiking yesterday, but man, it was a struggle. I feel better today, just a bit tired. My psych apparently thinks my habit is severe enough that she's giving me naltrexone to manage the cravings. While the medicine does help make the cravings less powerful, I think that I'm going to have a tough time stopping drinking unless I find something to replace the habit. I get bored easily, and I live alone without many friends, so as you can probably tell the weekends are not a good time for me (hence why I drink). I've seen a lot of people say that they quit drinking for their son, their wife, whatever, but I don't have any of those things. I can't even say I'll quit drinking for myself, because I honestly just don't care very much about myself. It's not like I'm even hurting anybody besides myself when I drink. That's what also makes quitting hard; the fact that nobody will really care if I stop.
I guess what I'm trying to get at here is that I have no idea how to quit drinking. I've tried just...stopping. I know how bad it is for me. I've done so much research into the harmful effects and how good my life probably would be if I'd just stop. But I can't seem to stop. Even with medicine I still can't seem to shake the cravings completely. I wish something would work. So, after this half-vent, half-ramble, does anyone here have any advice? For the people that have a long time sober, how did you do it? Words of encouragement would also be appreciated.

2023.05.29 14:57 AdSea4143 I was abandoned after my father's unexpected death and now I'm not sure how to talk to anyone.
My father passed away suddenly before my senior year of high school, just as summer vacation was ending. We had a normal morning together, but he never came home after that. When a friend came over, angry with her own father, I tried to explain that being mad at him was wrong because my dad had just died. She accused me of lying, so I showed her the obituary to prove it. She changed her tune and left.
After my dad's death, my friends didn't know how to act around me anymore and distanced themselves. I felt alone and struggled to make new friends. Even my dad's childhood friends, who were like second fathers to me, suddenly stopped contacting me or spending time together. It was like a switch had been flipped. I not only lost my father, but also his friends, my friends, and his family.
My cousins no longer invited me to their important life events, and my dad's family stopped including me in their gatherings. It was strange because we used to attend their parties and events together. It seemed like I no longer mattered to them without my father.
Years ago, I invited my dad's brother to my wedding, but he couldn't attend due to knee replacement surgery.
Next week, I'm going to acquire citizenship in another country, provided I pass a multiple-choice test. I want to celebrate with a party and I feel like my dad's friends, his brother, and maybe some other siblings should know about it. However, it feels strange to send them a newsletter after not having spoken for years. I'm not on social media, and I don't have their email addresses, so it would have to be through mail.
Should I inform them about the news?

2023.05.29 14:56 Glittering-Invite875 when to leave a job
I have been casually scrolling through this subreddit for a few months now and honestly, I feel a lot of the advice I've read can be somewhat unhealthy to take. Now I'm about to rant a bit about my life- but I just want to say that the idea of "sticking it out because it's a job" and "your job shouldn't fulfill you" only *really* works if you have enough money to do so and your job allows for a work/life balance.
Speaking from experience, when I first got this job I was in a position where I didn't have many bills to pay and was making more than double the minimum wage, so I had enough to live a way better life outside of work. Now, I still work for the same company and make a few dollars more than when I started, but am not able to afford much past housing and bills.
I also don't appreciate the industry I am in or the kind of work I am doing. It's a call center- so I am dealing with many unreasonable people upset about problems I did not create, yet expecting the company I work for the magically resolve them, and then, being upset when that's usually not the reality. Not to mention, I never really cared for tech-related matters, to begin with. I just like to problem-solve.
I have tried all the things my Team Leader has recommended, my therapist has recommended, and this subreddit has recommended. If I hear "get a hobby" one more time, I think I'll barf. Yes, having a life outside of work certainly helps, but in my experience, it only really numbed me until the next day when I still have to sit at my desk and drudge myself through the workday. Over and over and over and over. I mean damn, is this really it?
I don't know what I'm missing in comparison to people who are able to accept this as "normal life". I have no clue how or why anyone could be truly content with this kind of life. Again, I really think for me it's just time to go and find another job where I'm not constantly frustrated/abused by customers. I have been accepting that and finding whatever avenues I can get certified in business/marketing positions. I've been working to get myself out.
I guess the point of this post was for me to rant about the sometimes toxic mentality of "work is work" ]I wish I could dissociate at my job for longer periods of time for that to make sense to be fair though. That sounds really peaceful honestly. I do recall appreciating that mentality when I was newer at my job and hadn't reached complete burnout yet. However, I don't think that should even really apply to me given it's a call center. I wouldn't want anyone who I felt was mentally able to be content working in a position that thrives on people-pleasing, gaslighting, and micromanaging. Anyways thanks for coming to my TedTalk
TLDR: Feel like the "work is work" mentality can't and shouldn't work for everyone's situation. Sharing personal work frustrations.

2023.05.29 14:56 Mahkale Track loans/payments to people
Hi all,
I was wondering if there are best practices for managing money owned to someone or money lent out to someone?
In the past I use to just make a category with the person’s name but then it got sorta hard to track what the money was actually for.
Though it may seem silly I’m starting to think I should make separate off-off categories for money owed and to be received. For example I just purchased a house and I got new gutters installed. I was lent the money to pay upfront by someone and now I’m thinking of creating a “gutters” account to track the initial amount and payments back to the person. Once done I guess I can archive/hide the account???
Sorta newish to Banktivity. Thanks!

2023.05.29 14:56 HaMeer2 Laptop has trouble starting up
My laptop has problems starting up. When I press the power button, the fans start spinning; the CD-drive makes a sound; the LEDs behind my keyboard turn on.
And then everything stops. The laptop then tries again (if on main power, the laptop automatically retries; if on battery, I need to press the power button again).
This goes on for a few attempts to dozens of attempts. But, if the laptop finally starts, it runs without problems (for so far I can see). I can play games, I can browse, I can do everything. But if I then restart the laptop or let it go into hibernation, the same trouble starts. Further info: the error is before the (single) 'boot-beep'.
How can I find out what is the problem? Most guides on the internet are for desktops where it is easy to get to all the components and disconnect / replace them. Laptops are slightly trickier.

2023.05.29 14:56 MoOsT1cK Replacing my old stereo connected to soundcard
I'm using my PC for music as well as for movies.
Nothing really fancy here, I just plugged the Jack output to the input of my old Sony Hi-Fi stereo, HDMI to my television and here it goes.
Now, my old Sony stereo is on its way to die. I'm looking for a nice replacement, around 100 watts left/right speakers with a central bar and/or a woofer, to play my mp3 / ogg / flac database through jack connection and maybe also connect to my TV far a better sound while watching movies.
Can someone please advise me some good hardware for that purpose ?
Thanks in advance

2023.05.29 14:56 beashaymed Windows 7 Computer Freezes on Shutdown
Hello everyone. So basically what I have gotten into is trying to fix my grandmother’s PC. She bought an HP Desktop probably around 12 years ago, and the hard drive finally died on it, so I replaced it with a new hard drive since an SSD wouldn’t technically mount, and installed a fresh version of Windows 7 on it. After re-installing Windows 7, I noticed that whenever you shut down the computer, it goes through the process of logging off and shutting down the machine, the “shutdown” screen will freeze and the circle will get hung. You can hear the machine still running when stuck on this shutdown screen as well. I have went through and installed all the updates for Windows 7, thinking this would fix the issue, but it has not. If needed, I can try and re-install Windows, as it seems a program or running task may be causing it to not fully shutdown, but wanted to check and see for advice before re-installing.
At first it was not getting Windows Updates, so I turned off Windows Firewall and then ran chkdsk C: /f /r, and this finally allowed the updates to start pushing through last night, but that’s besides the point. Any advice is recommended, thanks guys!

2023.05.29 14:55 Ok_Bluebird_1032 Pioneering Astronomy in the Islamic Golden Age - ULUG BEG
Ulugh Beg was a renowned astronomer, mathematician, and ruler who lived during the 15th century. Born on March 22, 1394, in Samarkand, he belonged to the Timurid dynasty. Ulugh Beg's contributions to astronomy have left an indelible mark on the scientific world. Let's explore his remarkable journey together!
Ulugh Beg's passion for astronomy led him to establish the Samarkand Observatory in the early 1420s. This remarkable observatory featured an immense quadrant, allowing him to make precise measurements of celestial bodies. His unparalleled dedication and meticulous data collection enabled him to create accurate star catalogs and astronomical tables.
Ulugh Beg's most significant work was the "Zij-i-Sultani," a comprehensive astronomical handbook. It contained detailed observations of over a thousand stars, as well as calculations for lunar and solar eclipses. This groundbreaking work paved the way for advancements in planetary motion and timekeeping.
Ulugh Beg's contributions were far-reaching and had a profound impact on the development of astronomy and mathematics. His precise measurements and star catalogs laid the foundation for future astronomers. He challenged conventional knowledge, pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration and inspiring generations to come.

2023.05.29 14:54 Ecstacyismeth You could argue that OP DND is the literal Calvin to Pokemon DND's Hobbes
Calvinism is basically that if you are chosen by God, you can do anything you want and still go to Heaven simply because you were arbitrarily chosen. This of course influenced American Christianity and culture in ways that should be obvious. Because they dealt with existence itself, Rustage had to make canon a world in which Calvinism in some form was correct and made the DLP the chosen ones.
Even though William arbitrarily killed old men, Verona killed more than 1000 people, Ragnar resorted to violence most of the time, and Duros kind of just let it all happen or sometimes enabled their bad actions, they still got a happy ending because Benevolence, the creator of the world, centered it around them. And that was created as a way to give a canon explanation to Devil's Luck.
Hobbes believed that law and order arose from chaos not from any virtue, but from a purely utilitarian standpoint. People give up total freedom to ensure the benefits of peace happen. Society in the Lonar region has fallen apart and people are now all literally monsters. The Bang Gang is no exception, but they frequently are shown to come up with logical plans and they even elect a leader based solely on merit. They acknowledge that their nature is chaotic and evil, so they let Charlie actually lead to have them reigned in. This is similar to the Phantom Troupe in Hunter x Hunter who acknowledge that they are evil, but elected a head to lead them. And so, they can actually go out and defeat all these threats despite being pretty much all chaotic evil.
The reason Calvin and Hobbes thought the ways they did was because they lived in very turbulent times where the black plague was happening as well as constant war. As well, they lived in times of great social upheaval.
The reason that these campaigns express those philosophies is because they both take place in very chaotic settings (Sea of the One piece world and a place where everyone is a monster)
But the differences come from the story structure.
Rustage: Literally make the universe Calvinist by making the story focused on the players. It is focused on the players' stories and things are molded to accommodate them.
Lostpause: Make a world with a pokemon league and allow the players to go through it. It is centered around threats that the players have to overcome.

2023.05.29 14:54 Kitty_Bear_Music Sigh. Please help me be slightly less of a noob? Basic question that every tutorial skips over
I’m a smart person. I’m building a bot to chat with my own .txt and I want to use the GPT-4 LLM but LITERALLY every tutorial video, it gets to the bit about putting in your OpenAI API key and they skip through this like “just copy and paste” like we are all meant to have tacit knowledge about this. Or, they say oh “we are gonna be using ChatGPT 3.5 turbo or Davinci because it costs less money.”
Please do not mansplain or condescend. - yes I pay for ChatGPT-4 and I know this is different - I have been on the “wait list” for the API for a long time. Never got an email - I am willing to PAY for the GPT-4 API calls. But if I sign up for GPT-4 plan do I straight away get an API I can use? Or more freaking waiting???
Assume for the sake of argument I am willing to pay whatever it costs to analyse my documents including the max $120/month and/or renting a A10 GPU.
How the freaking ducks can I create a document analysis bot using my own data that calls the GPT-4 API.

2023.05.29 14:54 Mattnorden How to get cats to stop jumping on kitchen table
Hello! I have two 6 month old kittens that my partner and I adopted in January. Lately they have been jumping up on our table, and we are having a hard time getting them to stop.
We usually just use our stern voice and say “No” before placing them on the floor or couch, and we have tried putting aluminum foil on it but they both just sat down on top of the foil.
We are looking for ways to positively reinforce other behaviors rather than disciplining them for jumping on the table. They don’t know any better, so we aren’t looking to punish them.
Thank you in advance!

After the programed Backups noticed that containers and VM aren't starting and some with errors on their console.

I read somewhere time ago about some people talking about their Proxmox killing the SSD or NVME becouse is constantly performing operation on disk.
I tought that using and SSD for Proxmox and NVME for CTs and VMS, would prevent somehow that.
Am I wrong? It's just bad luck on premature nvme death?

2023.05.29 14:53 Downtown-Cap210 Botox and Fillers: Know what’s best for you
The ubiquity of Botox and Dermal Fillers has been on a consistent ascent for many years. The explanation — their purposes go a long way past the regular restorative capabilities. With these medicines, you can upgrade your appearance, support your certainty, and raise the general nature of your life.
The best part is both these medicines are insignificantly obtrusive. As such, they needn’t bother with surgery, and you can return to your standard routine just after the treatment closes.
What occurs underneath our skin? Collagen, the vitally primary protein created under our skin, makes our skin stout and energetic. As we age, the creation of collagen dials back, and the skin turns out to be free. This prompts wrinkles, crow’s feet, and grin lines on the face. Botox and Dermal Fillers turn around our maturing interaction and assist us with recovering our energetic look.
What are Dermal Fillers? Dermal fillers work by decreasing the impacts of gravity on the skin and giving it a firmer and younger appearance. Dermal fillers are gel-like tissue fillers that are infused underneath the skin where skin volume is deficient. Post application, your facial forms will be improved, the skin will get smoothened, and you will have an even tone.
Dermal fillers in Bangalore can be both regular and manufactured, with the last option enduring longer. It is assessed more than 1 million people select this treatment.
Who needs Dermal Fillers? Anybody more seasoned than 21 years old can go for a dermal filler methodology. Assuming you are searching for any of the beneath changes to your skin, then dermal fillers are the arrangement you are searching for -
Smoothen wrinkles
Mellow nasolabial folds
Further, develop under the eye box
Eliminate scowl lines
Lift or improve cheeks
Fill skin break out scars
Stout the lips
Smoothen vertical lip lines
Eliminate crow’s feet
Smoothen jawline wrinkles
Smoothen puppet lines
Are Dermal Fillers Difficult? At the point when the filler is infused, all that you will feel is a little sting (like any regular infusion). Many say that the most extreme aggravation they experience is equivalent to a little honey bee sting that goes on for a couple of moments. If necessary, we can limit even this by applying a sedative cream to numb the region.
What’s in store after Dermal Fillers? There may be gentle enlarging nearby, which will disappear following a couple of days. Your muscles could feel a little weighty after the system, which you will become accustomed to in seven days. You can begin applying skincare and cosmetics following 48 hours of the method. Likewise, stay away from direct openness to the sun for three to five days after the treatment and hydrate yourself well. The outcomes are seen immediately and worked on throughout the following fourteen days. It by and large goes on for ten to a year.
What is Botox? Botox is one more injectable medication that is produced using the poison created by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It has been endorsed for use by the FDA starting around 1997. Throughout the long term, its utilization has expanded because of its adequacy in further developing different skin conditions. Botox loosens up the smooth muscles of the face by hindering the activity of nerve motivation.
During Botox medicines, the area of use will be entirely cleaned with a non-alcoholic clean. Post this, modest quantities of Botox are infused into the skin or muscles. The whole methodology is normally finished in a specialist’s centre, and it’s a negligibly obtrusive strategy. You can return to your office or home just after the methodology.
Is Botox Infusion agonizing? Like Dermal Fillers, there will be not any torment during the Botox Infusion strategy. The needles are generally little and there will be just a small prick on the off chance that it is applied by a specialist clinical expert. If necessary, a sedative cream can be applied before the methodology to numb the region and make you agreeable.
Who needs Botox Infusion? You can think about
Botox treatment in Bangalore infusions for working on the accompanying circumstances -
Wrinkles
Solid circumstances
Temple wrinkles
Eye jerking
Lethargic eye
Headache
Muscle contractures
Unreasonable perspiring
What’s in store after overseeing Botox Infusion? You will begin feeling the distinction following three days, and it would regularly require one to about fourteen days to come by the full outcomes. The impact goes on for four to a half years after the treatment, contingent upon the kind of issue you have been being treated for. Over the long haul, the muscle would steadily get back to its underlying state.

2023.05.29 14:53 TskMem How much can I get inspired from a family's history when I'm writing a novel?
I'm a rookie writer who got a cool idea for a book and I'm currently brainstorming various ideas to create a detailed plot. While I was reasearching about 1600's Venetian nobles I found a noble family that suited perfectly the type of family I wanted for my main characters to descends from. That clan wasn't very big and it gained its status thanks to a payment to the govern (a thing that many, many rich families did), and that (main) branch of the family died off in late 1700. Then I discovered that side branches still have descendants living today, without noble-like status or anything bringed from that era, but aware of their origins. Now my question is, how much freedom do I have about using their family name, herald and history (prior to 1700)? I don't know much about legal stuffs in creative creations but I want my work to be respectful (and legal) in the case I somehow end up actually writing a book that will end up in the market. Thanks in advance to whoever helps!

2023.05.29 14:53 smith327 The Mystical Theme of Quran in Chapter 23 (The Believers)
The occult sciences predominantly comprise of the essential theme of Quran in its chapter called 'The Believers'. The structure of Quran here seems to have fundamentally been constructed to appeal to the psychic nature of man, such that the human mind may find focus and conviction in the cosmic status of its purpose through a sympathetic association with the higher acts of goodness. For instance, the first twelve verses stated in the Chapter 23 of Quran have a theme that corresponds to the principle characteristics of the twelve zodiac signs. Accordingly,
1 Successful indeed are the believers (Aries = Victory)
2 Who are humble in their prayers, (Taurus = Attitude)

Furthermore, the same chapter also refers to certain celestial affairs in the following verses.
And We have created above you seven paths, and We are never unmindful of creation. (23, 17)
Say: Who is Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Tremendous Throne? (23, 86)
And the ideas related to alchemical transfiguration in the following verses of chapter 23,
13 Then placed him as a drop (of seed) in a safe lodging;
14 Then fashioned We the drop a clot, then fashioned We the clot a little lump, then fashioned We the little lump bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators!
15 Then lo! after that ye surely die.
16 Then lo! on the Day of Resurrection ye are raised (again).
These verses when put together alongside the full context of chapter 23, with the stories of destruction due to the Elemental Chaos, and admonitions regarding the conducts of Lost Souls in contrast to the genuine undertakings of True Believers; it overall constitutes an exercise of theurgy of great potential when extrapolated to its implied proportions. Therefore, this mode of communion seems to have always been there since ancient times which adheres to the quantification of human knowledge through the quality of heavenly wisdom accorded by the spiritual teachings of the great sages throughout the ages.
