I'm Trying to help a friend who has extremely harmful beliefs, and habits that have been extremely detrimental to his mental, spiritual and physical health.
WARNING & APOLOGIES THOUGH: This is a really long post. But I'm very scared for my friend's health because he's smoking a lot of tobacco products and eating fried foods everyday while also being at least 200 pounds (or more) overweight. And I'm even more scared about how he views God, his faith, and life as a whole. And I think the only thing that has any chance to convince him that how he views his faith and his life is wrong, is scriptural evidence.

I have a very close friend and he is actually much much more of a devout christian (and Latter-day Saint) than I am these days. I have a history in the LDS church, but I'm kinda half and half on my faith these days, while he goes to the LDS church every Sunday and claims to believe in it fully. But this is about him. He also is extremely schizophrenic (he's been officially diagnosed I think 7 or 8 years ago or more) and he is actually on disability for his schizophrenia so it's very severe. He eats fried foods constantly almost everyday and is probably 200 or maybe even inching on 300 pounds overweight. He also smokes black & milds every single day, for those of you who know anything about smoking, black & milds are actually way way worse than cigarettes somehow...so it's very very bad. I just love the man and don't want him to die when he's 38 (He's 30 now). He has told me many many many times over the years that he believes that he can literally just pray all of his problems away, without doing any work whatsoever, and his prayers will still be answered. I think this is complete non sense, and I believe that God helps those who help themselves. And I also believe it's just a simple fact of common sense reality that you have to pray along with action to make things happen in life.
Tonight we had a heated debate about this topic and I brought up 2 big examples. One being me and his weights. I'm about 60 or 70 pounds overweight myself and I'm only 5'4 so I'm extremely overweight also so I brought up the example that me and him are both extremely overweight...but I told him, we can't simply pray away our weight. I told him praying for God to give us the strength to work out or eat better etc. is great. But for us to actually lose weight we have to physically put in the work also, along with praying. And he disagreed. He literally was trying to tell me that we both can just sit on our fat butts and pray and somehow, some way God will make the weight go away on it's own.
I brought up another example. We're both single men, and we've both been single for a very very long time. We both want girlfriends and potentially wives eventually, but I don't think either of us are focused on it too too much right now. But I brought up the example that let's say tomorrow we decide we are done being single and we want a girlfriend really really bad now. I told him we can pray for that, of course. But it's not actually going to happen unless we actually meet women in some kind of way. Whether it be dating sites or apps, some way on the internet, going to public places and talking to women, something in the physical world to meet women. I said the percentage that if I pray for a girlfriend tonight that God will have one magically knock on my door tomorrow is so tiny, that's it's literally not even worth thinking about or considering at all. And he disagreed. He thought it was a perfectly reasonable thing to believe that if he prays for a girlfriend tonight that God could have one knock on his door tomorrow. And look, I know God performs miracles and totally could do that. But 99.999 times (or more) out of 100, it's just simply not going to happen. We all know that.
I'll be honest I think a lot of this could be his schizophrenia, I'm no mental health expert but from what I have been told a lot of schizophrenics have trouble staying in reality sometimes. And from I understand he is extremely schizophrenic. He is on disability from the government because of his schizophrenia, so it is severe enough for him to be on that. So I don't know how much of this is his disability or not.
And to be honest I don't care what is causing it, it just pains me that he is looking at life like this everyday because I think it's an extremely unhealthy & harmful way to look at life. And I know my only chance to show him he is wrong at this point is to show him some kind of scriptures that refute his current views on this, if there is any. I don't know if some of you may find this to be manipulative or not, what I'm wanting to do, and if you do I fully understand and we can have conversations about that. But I just love this guy to death and it pains me that he is looking at life this way. So anything to help him with this topic, to me personally, would be a good positive thing. He always brings up different scriptures in the bible about "waiting on God" to defend his views on all of this. And I never have any scriptural evidence because I have to be honest, I'm nowhere near as devout of a christian as he is. And I've only read the bible a little bit probably one time in my life. I've read more of the book of Mormon, but I'm not the best at interpreting scriptures so I haven't read much of it. I still identify as a christian, and I fully believe in a christian God. But I'm nowhere near as devout as him so I don't know any scriptures.
But I think showing him some scriptural evidence that God helps those who help themselves may have a chance on helping him. I've always heard the phrase "God helps those who help themselves" but I don't if there's anything in the actual book of Mormon to prove that scripturally. I just found out there's nothing in the bible that says that, but now I'm curious if there is in the book of Mormon. And I don't know if scriptural evidence will even help him, if it doesn't, I will honestly probably give up forever when it comes to this because I've tried to talk him out of this for probably going on at least 5 to 7 years now. But I feel like it's worth one last try by doing this because I have known the man since we were both in 6th grade and I love him like a brother. And it kills me that he really thinks he can pray away all of his problems without doing any action whatsoever at 30 years old. And I think it's really leading to him not fixing any of his problems for the past 7 to 8 years (maybe longer) So if you guys have any suggestions on what I could do to try to help, and like I said any scriptural evidence on God helping those who help themselves, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Do you think spending 1-2 days in Aksum to visit all the sites and churches is a good idea in the current political climate? I’m aware the war has kinda stopped and a peace deal was achieved, but the atmosphere there could still be tense..
Also, there is no flights to Aksum from Addis. I was thinking of flying to Mekele and then take a bus from there. Do you know a better or safer way to get there?
I was thinking of getting a guide for a day when I’m in Aksum to help out but I don’t have the budget to get one from Addis as they charge too much.

Although Mass Effect 2 glosses over some of Cerberus' most evil and bloodthirsty actions (like Chasca and Edolus) no matter which Shepard you play, while only retaining criticism for more "morally gray" evil scientist actions like experiments on Rachni and Thorian creepers, the handling of Akuze with a Sole Survivor Shepard is borderline nonsensical.
For those who need a reminder, Cerberus murders 50 Alliance marines on Akuze to do tests on thresher maws, and they experiment on Corporal Toombs thereafter. If he/she is a Sole Survivor psychological profile, Shepard is the "sole" survivor of this massacre and it is due to his/her survival that the Council considers Shepard for a Spectre position. This is very possibly the worst thing that has ever happened to Sole Survivor Shepard, and if Sole Survivor Shepard does the ME1 mission on Ontarom, he/she knows that Cerberus is behind the attacks.
And yet ME2 never gives Sole Survivor Shepard the option to question Cerberus about these actions. Jacob brings up the Akuze encounter to Sole Survivor Shepard soon after leaving Lazarus Station, and gives zero indication that Cerberus was behind these attacks--it was just a "thresher maw attack" (see https://youtu.be/k5IHLBu1_Cs?t=1408). Maybe we can headcanon that Jacob doesn't know that Cerberus is behind the attack, but even then, Sole Survivor Shepard gets no dialogue option to say, "yeah, and it was you guys who orchestrated it!" nor an option to even ask about Cerberus' role in the attacks. In other words, there's no acknowledgement of the Akuze-Cerberus connection whatsoever when a member of Cerberus brings up Akuze. This would have been a great opportunity for Jacob or Miranda (or TIM) to come up with an excuse which undermines Corporal Toombs' story, and legitimizes the idea that Sole Survivor Shepard might be able to overlook Cerberus' past atrocities. But the fact that we get nothing suggests that Bioware doesn't even want to even engage with Cerberus' role in the massacre. It's almost like Bioware doesn't want us to remember Cerberus' culpability.
Instead, Sole Survivor Shepard just tacitly work for Cerberus just like any other iteration of Shepard. Eventually, you get an email for Corporal Toombs who (naturally) is furious that you seem to be working for Cerberus--an acknowledgement of completion of the Ontarom mission, but not a very interesting one, since Shepard is mandated by the plot to work for Cerberus, and the player has no agency here.
The rest of the vanilla game goes by with Akuze just sort of buried under the rug. Joker and Dr. Chakwas leave prestigious positions in the Alliance to join the terrorist organization without any thought or mention of Akuze. Apparently the thought never crosses their mind that Shepard might not want to work for the people who butchered his marines. And once Miranda is loyal, Sole Survivor Shepard can talk to her more about Cerberus, but Sole Survivor Shepard can only generically comment that "[Cerberus] experiments crossed a line," and question Miranda about other Cerberus atrocities, like the facility on Pragia and/or the thorian creeper and rachni experiments. Nothing about Akuze.
Finally, in the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC, Tela Vasir can criticize the moral compass of a Sole Survivor Shepard by pointing out what observant players have been noticing all game--that Cerberus was behind the massacre of the Alliance marines on Akuze. Shepard is forced to say, "it doesn't matter." This is some pretty bizarre writing by Bioware and it feels like patchwork plothole filling--in a DLC made after the base game, a character finally actually points out the Akuze-Cerberus connection and how morally compromised Shepard is for working with them, and it is mandated that Shepard is unconcerned by this.
I suppose my conclusions are this: if you're playing ME2 with the notion that Shepard is briefly working for Cerberus, it feels very difficult if not impossible to roleplay a Sole Survivor legitimately. Even if you've somehow headcanoned Sole-Survivor Shepard as not really working for Cerberus at all but merely working for his/her own ends with Cerberus resources, Sole Survivor Shepard's acquiescence to cooperate with the organization who murdered his squad on Akuze is still rather contrived and under-written. I think that playing a Sole Survivor Shepard through ME2 is a massive roleplaying conundrum, though I'd be interested in any headcanons that players have concocted. In any case, though, I think War Hero or Ruthless are more viable from a roleplaying POV in this aspect.

If/when we get new Primaries I thought of some neat ones.
Gunner: An over the shoulder launcher. Projectile burrows and either creates and drops spikes (Ceiling) or a pit of spikes (Floor). Wall spikes will erupt and shoot out.
Engineer: A backpack full of small drones that go where you point. Each one gets one hit on a surface or enemy and your magazine is how many are left in the swarm. Alternatively: Gauntlets that shoot GOD DAMN LIGHTING. (He makes the Metal Horns to charge it and points them to launch the charge)
Driller: A rotary grenade launcher that stonks poison gas grenades.
Glyphbait HOO HA HA! Scout: An Anti-material Rifle. Punch through! Explosive rounds! Bouncy bullets? WHY NOT!?!?!?!?

If you're wondering how a sub of 3.5million subscribers is being able to be managed with only 7 mods, it's a good question because I'll tell you: It's not.
How many days do you think it should take for a daily-discussion thread to be fixed by automod? One day? Two days? It's been 14 days. And none of them have made a peep.
Because guess what, they don't actually visit this sub. And even if they do, they also don't really care about it. Even the supposedly active Nick-E who got called out for making a new routine for what seemed like, an opportunity to just host it on his site to get potential memberships (and even then, had the gall to complain that he can't even pay for the server traffic coming from reddit, because, well, who told you to direct all the reddit traffic to your site? When a perfectly fine wiki on reddit exists for you to use?), has this to say about the subreddit:

Call me crazy but I truly believe the sub needs to have new mods that are actually here, on the subreddit and care about the subreddit, not actively talking shit about the sub they supposedly signed up to voluntarily moderate out of the goodness of their hearts.
I think an overhaul of the whole mod-team needs to be in order and eshlow being the top mod needs to step up his leadership game and make a request for new mods and kick off the old ones who are clearly inactive.

i bought last minute tickets to gillette N2 knowing there would be rain, even being a little excited about it knowing taylor rain shows are known for being iconic and special, especially at a venue like gillette. there were nonstop rumors about long live for the surprise song and whatnot….
i am so extremely grateful for my night there. my cousin and i are huge huge swifties who have loved her and grown up with her since we were little kids. we tried to make the most of the absolute monsoon by dancing nonstop and not letting the weather stop us from having the time of our lives.
but i will admit, during folklore / evermore it was extremely hard to keep the energy up. try as we could to ignore the weather, it was just miserable. our groins and limbs started to lock up and we even considered leaving early towards the beginning of midnights, which is such a drastic thought for us.
after the show, i immediately felt sick and woke up to a week of the stomach flu… non stop vomiting and couldn’t eat food for a week. i am finally starting to recover now after almost two weeks.
i hate myself so bad for feeling negative emotions about the night, but it truly was just such rough circumstances. and i know i will get tremendous hate for this and get called ungrateful, but the surprise songs were shockingly underwhelming, especially for all the hype created around it. i really wish i didn’t attend that specific show and am jealous of people who didn’t attend the rain show. that sounds so horrible considering there are so many people who would’ve died to been there and i feel so guilty about my mixed emotions.
i will say, i was so (and still am) 100% so incredibly impressed by taylor and her ability to perform under such circumstances. she kept her energy up and gave a hell of a performance.

I'm working with a WKWebView in an iOS development environment which takes a picture of the entire view, by first resizing it to the size of the website it has loaded.
By doing so, this ends up resizing elements that auto-resize depending on window height, such as the video at the top of https://careers.walmart.com. Is there a property I can adjust in the JavaScript console that applies to all (if not most) sites that can trick these elements into resizing based on a fake height value?
I.e if the website is 2000px, and I resize the WebView to that height, the resizable div will also increase to 2000px, pushing the rest of the content below it, and so on. Could I fake the height property so that, for example, regardless of the size of the WebView, the site would think its loaded on a 500px window?

Hello all I've been messing around with installing a package and it's dependencies on a station that's not connected to the internet.
My best shot so far was to use pip install -t , then move the resulting target_dir onto the segregated station. This had let me use the code package if I add the target_dir on-destination to my PYTHONPATH, but I'd like to be able to pip install it there to different virtual environments or upload it to my self-hosted index. Is there any way to extract wheel files or the like from site-packages format directories?

Big big battles of like 300 plus players (150 a side) trying to either capture or defend 3 objectives at once. I don't know what the time limit on it would be, offensive is if done right just shy of 2½ hours. Warfare is 1½. I'd say something big like 3½-4 hours duration, or until one side losses either all capture zones, or runs out of respawn ticket's. Capturing and holding zones would increase the amount of tickets available. If you manage to capture 2 of the 3 zones on the front line, and then get pushed back, you could lose those zones again, making it a far more tactical game. You'd have to designate who's defending, who's flanking, who's assaulting, etc.
Omaha Beach as an example, playing as the US, what I find sort of lacking is that you can assault the beach objective by doing a long flank. In reality, no matter where you were on that beach, you would be mown down. I recognise the game has limits, and these limits actually help when it comes to the maps, as no two games are the same. I just think it would be cool to have these even bigger battles that truly encompass the whole map.

Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show The Little Mermaid on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

Unfortunately, The Little Mermaid is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.

My volume keys are not working correctly. When I press Volume Up, a small search bar opens. When I press Mute, Some microsoft support site opens. Volume Down does nothing.

Not that I'm gonna do anything but say like thanks, but it feels like if you're complimenting someone on something they played no part in doing (exceptions for like, ppl who chose their name and change voice on purpose etc) feels shallow and like they couldn't find something legitimate to compliment you on.
Take the age old pretty eyes compliment. If I have pretty eyes cool but how is that a compliment I didn't choose them?? Nice hair fair enough I choose how my hair is I take care of it style it etc.

Memorial for persecuted Jehovah's Witnesses in Berlin
Berlin: (hib/AW) The Culture Committee is in favor of the erection of a memorial for Jehovah's Witnesses persecuted during the National Socialist dictatorship in Berlin's Tiergarten. The committee approved on Wednesday without dissenting votes a corresponding motion of the parliamentary groups of the SPD, CDU/CSU, Alliance 90/The Greens and the FDP (20/6710). Only the AfD faction abstained from the vote. The Jehovah's Witnesses had united in their resistance to National Socialism out of their faith and were one of the first groups to be persecuted in National Socialist Germany, the motion states.
The motion calls on the German government to advocate for a memorial to the persecuted and murdered Jehovah's Witnesses in Europe at the historic site in Berlin's Tiergarten park, taking into account existing memorials and remembrance initiatives, and to provide information about the persecution of this group of victims. The memorial is to consist of a commemorative sculpture and information panels. The memorial is to be realized in coordination with the state of Berlin, and the Federal Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is to be commissioned with the planning and implementation. In addition, the federal government is to take measures to eliminate deficits in the reappraisal of history, public recognition and scientific research of the persecuted and murdered Jehovah's Witnesses in Europe.
At the meeting of the Culture Committee, MPs Marianne Schieder (SPD), Annette Widmann-Mauz (CDU), Erhard Grundl (Greens) and Thomas Hacker (FDP) referred to the committee's public hearing last Monday with historians Wolfgang Benz, Detlef Garbe, Tim Müller and Uwe Neumärker, who fully supported the request of the motion. "We do well to take the decision now," Marianne Schieder emphasized. Annette Widmann-Mauz argued that the Bundestag had already committed itself to commemorating all groups of victims in 1999 with its resolution to erect the Holocaust Memorial. Erhard Grundl recalled that there had already been an initiative to erect a memorial during the last legislative period under the then Minister of State for Culture, Monika Grütters. This is now being implemented. Thomas Hacker emphasized that with the application and the erection of the memorial, a "blind spot in the culture of remembrance" would be filled.
Marc Jongen (AfD) stated that the erection of a memorial was "appropriate and correct". However, his group could not agree to the motion, because the memorial ignored the persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses after 1945 in the GDR. Jan Korte (Left Party) countered Jongen that the "mountains of corpses of the Nazis cannot be compared with the mountains of files and the prisons of the GDR.

We play a second game , he wins and then immediately tells me he’s exaughsted and is gonna go home… he walks me to my car..as we are walking he tells me how he’s sorry he’s just had a long day in the sun. Then doesn’t even chat with me at the car. Just gives me a quick hug and says goodbye and leaves.. the entire date was an hour and a half. Maybe two hours.
Am I right to assume he’s not interested ?
