Experimental Trial 12-2 - Preview 2: The New Game's Reality
2023.06.01 04:43 FloatingTriangles Experimental Trial 12-2 - Preview 2: The New Game's Reality
“Melody,” I suppose…
Then I’ll be “Kuromi.”
“Roulette.” …! I’ll take my second choice, then. Call me “Zero.”
Please address me as “Kira” from now on.
T-that’s an…interesting codename. Hehe...n-not creepy at all!
Anyway, I’ll be “Mecha,” 'cuz that’s short for “mechanic”!
Guess you guys can call me “Leaf.” Despite the circumstances, it’s nice to meet you all.
“Misao” is totally better than all your terrible codenames!
“Smile” seems fitting, I suppose...
Oh, I know, I know! I’m the one and only “–”!
“Dash,” huh?
No, no, no! It’s “–”!
That’s what I said!
Nuh uh! You said “Dash,” which is way wrong and you should feel really bad about yourself. I’m “–”!
... One by one, the fifteen came up with codenames, and introduced themselves to the group. After everyone had named themselves, Monotaro threw Monopads to each of them. Okay, don’t forget those codenames! And don’t forget this very important fact: the mastermind’s gonna strike again!
You won’t know how, you won’t know exactly when, but some innocent sap’s blood’s gonna be on your hands tomorrow if you don’t act! Ahahahaha!
Monokuma vanished. Monotaro stayed behind, briefly, as if he’d again forgotten his cue. Oh! Right! So long, bear-well!
And then Monotaro was gone, too. With his departure, the fifteen were seemingly left to their own devices for the day. On top of everything they’d just heard about being thrown into a killing game with a murderous mastermind, there was still the matter of what to do with the unfortunate dead boy in the Library. Could we…bury him?
Of course we can, Melody. This building must contain tools we can use, and there’s plenty of space outside to choose a lovely spot worthy of your classmate.
Yeah, what, uh, Kira said! It’ll look…nice.
Sounds like a plan. Who wants to help me carry him out?
I was the one who found him, so I sort of feel obligated to volunteer.
Then I’ll go grab a shovel from the warehouse. I didn’t have a lot of time to check it, but I know there’s gotta be one in there!
The fifteen became a procession, as the dead boy was carried out of the Library and up the stairs. Everyone went along, and outside, though they were trapped in a domed cage under a blue sky, there was a stone set in the grass around the back of the Academy building that marked a good, picturesque place to lay someone to rest. It was a natural gravestone. Once the hole was dug, and the dead boy lowered into the hole, Melody said a few words. I…don’t remember his name. I don’t think I knew him very well, either. I…remember wanting to, though…
She told the group about a memory she had of the dead boy, about a time he’d cared for an injured crane. Once she’d finished, one voice piped up. It was Dash. All those pretty vague details about this random guy…you sure you’re not just lying for attention? That’d be pretty messed up.
That caused a bit of commotion, but the impromptu funeral was soon over. The rest of the day stretched out in front of the fifteen, trapped in this strange place, with strange people, playing a strange—and already deadly—killing game. I know what Monokuma said. But he said what he said to get us to distrust each other. Even if there is a mastermind among us, we need to stick together. So, do you guys want to get something to eat? We’ll get a chance to get to know each other better.
Good idea.
That’s an acceptable proposition.
Hmph…whatever. But I’m only going with you losers because I’m hungry!
After finding the Dining Hall stocked with food, the hungry fifteen settled down to eat and learn a little bit about the group. It was clear that everyone’s memories were hazy, about almost everything, though there were bits and pieces that people still remembered of their past lives before being trapped here. This strange collective amnesia was puzzling, to say the least. While they couldn’t do anything about that, they could try to figure out as much as they could about this “Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles.” We’re all sticking together until we find an exit. Everyone got that?
There has to be something Monokuma and Monotaro overlooked, right?
Right! We’ll definitely find a way out of here!
Things did not go quite so swimmingly. As a group, the fifteen spent the rest of the day exploring the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles, trying to find a way out that their captors had overlooked. They uncovered many things during their search, as every floor of the Academy was open to them, and there were several other buildings to investigate, as well. Many rooms they could get into, but a few doors were locked. One such door was the Ultimate ??? Research Lab on the Fifth Floor of the Academy building. Another was the sixteenth dorm room in the dormitory building, the one the group presumed to be the dead boy’s. The third was a futuristic-looking door in the Courtyard. And the last, found late in the day, when they were all feeling tired and some felt discouraged, was the underground metal hatch, protected by its electric barrier. Some felt hopeful that, at last, they’d found what they’d been looking for. It was then that Monokuma showed up for the second time. Thinking of going somewhere?
So sorry to burst your recently-blown bubbles, but getting through here’s a no-go without the code!
But since I’m such a nice bear, I’ll give it to one person, free of charge!
Puhuhu…who wants to be the lucky one? All you’ve gotta do is stop the mastermind’s killing spree with a kill of your own! Do that, and get away with murder, and the code’s all yours! Pretty easy, right?
Monokuma’s offer left the group at another dead end. Somehow, guys, we’ll find that code. I’m sure of it.
Even if that exit sign is the truth, this killing game won’t end so quickly, once someone decides to kill.
I mean, come on. The game’s already started. We buried what’s-his-name
today. The mastermind could even be one of us!
Still, her determination, in spite of the grim reality…it really is inspiring. We shouldn’t waste that hope!
Unfortunately, you just said it yourself, did you not? That hope has no place in our reality.
There was no further debate, as everyone was too tired from the long day. However, it wasn’t as if all were determined to leave things on such a negative note. At dinner, Kuromi and Melody had a proposal for the rest. Melody and I will be hosting a little concert after in the Ultimate Pianist Research Lab for anyone who wants to come.
Hopefully, Kuromi and I can put on a show everyone can enjoy.
Two girls offering to put on a concert just for me? Hell yeah! No way I’m gonna miss that!
I believe they said they were hosting it for everyone, Mecha. Of course I’ll attend.
No way. Listening to whatever music you wanna play sounds like a good way to die of boredom.
Wouldn’t it be safest to stay in a larger group, Misao?
Hmph…fine. Most agreed to go to Melody and Kuromi’s concert, but a few did not. Pass. …No thanks.
I will return to my room instead.
Go ahead and pretend everything’s gonna be okay if you want. See ya tomorrow…or maybe not! Nee-heehee!
As those four left for the dormitory building, the rest headed up to the Ultimate Pianist Research Lab, where Kaede’s piano playing and Sayaka’s singing serenaded them all. At least, until… DING-DONG-BING-BONG! Hiya! It’s now 10 p.m. Sleep tight and sweet dreams, you bastards!
Monotaro’s announcement marked the day’s end. And the impending arrival of a new one, when the mastermind would be free to kill again… The next morning...
As the fifteen had previously agreed to meet for breakfast the next day, after Monotaro’s 8 a.m. announcement, most made their way to the dining hall. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the early morning’s quiet peace to be shattered, as Misao had to sit near Mecha. Ugh, you reek!
…! WAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! Hey! That was really rude, Mecha!
Not cool.
… O-okay, okay, I didn’t mean like that, all right?
Ngh…hic…hic…I-it’s not my fault!
I can’t take a shower! I…I can’t tie my kimono sash by myself…
Don’t worry, Misao. I’ll help teach you how to tie it after we eat, okay? So, you don’t have to cry anymore.
…! …O-okay, Smile.
Look, I’m sorry.
Huh? Who said that?
Oh, you're still alive. You smell so shitty, I thought the mastermind had already killed you or something!
After all that commotion, it took some time for the group to realize that they were one person short. Dash hadn’t shown up. I had wondered where he was. Perhaps the mastermind has already struck?
Come on, seriously? Dash’s alive, just probably being a real pain in the ass somewhere.
Well, that’s probably true, but we still have to find him.
Yeah, we can’t abandon a party member!
Shall we organize into groups?
Most of those present then organized into small groups to search. A few others had different plans of how they were going to spend their morning. However, everyone agreed to meet up again for lunch at noon. A little before 12 pm, in the Dining Hall…
Back in the Dining Hall, a few had arrived for lunch earlier than the others. Where the hell is that guy, anyway?
Dunno. He’s still alive, though, I just know it.
… Suddenly, Dash strolled in, acting as if he was without a care in the world. What’s the food situation looking like, guys? I’m starving!
Dash! It’s so nice to see you unharmed!
As Dash got some cereal ready for himself, and as the others began walking in, the conversation obviously turned to where he’d been all morning. Hey! We’ve been searching for you all morning, asshole! We looked around outside, we tried your room…where the hell were you?!
Oh, was that racket you guys? Nee-heehee…I was too busy plotting murder to open my door. You know how it is.
H-huh?! Acting this way is playing right into Monokuma’s hands, Dash. This is exactly what he wants!
They didn’t spend their entire lunch talking about Dash’s disappearance, however. There’s something everyone here should know. I found a Secret Door behind a moving bookcase in the Library. There was a Card Reader next to it.
Fenrir and I tried to find a way inside pretty much all morning.
…No luck.
And there’s one more thing. Just a question I’ve got. Anyone ever heard of the “Ultimate Hunt”?
First time I’m hearing of it.
Maybe…it has something to do with the Ultimate Research Labs?
It’s definitely a possibility.
Guess no one else knows either, huh. It was just in a random book in the Library, so I didn’t have high hopes. Anyway, that’s all I had.
There was one more topic of conversation at lunch. Since we’re all here, I’d like to host a get-together in the Ultimate Cosplayer Research Lab after lunch. Think of it as…a chance to talk about ourselves. Maybe if we all do that, we’ll start remembering more things about ourselves. It’s worth a try, right?
Of course it’s worth a try, Kanata!
… I could take some pictures during it, too, if that’s okay.
…! A lovely idea!
Sounds like fun.
Put me down as a maybe.
If you’re sure me joining in wouldn’t be too much…
I-I’ll go, but I don’t wanna share stuff in front of everyone! Just Smile!
Well, it’s my get-together, so I have to be there, too…but we’d have until dinner. It’s plain to see we’d have time for everyone who wants to be there.
With some plans decided, the group of fifteen went their separate ways, promising to all meet up again at dinner… 6 pm, in the Dining Hall once more...
Only fourteen people made it to dinner. Has anyone seen Leaf?
… … N-not me…
He was in the building, if that helps. I saw him a couple of times.
So did I…
Well, Dash was fine before, right? Leaf must be, too.
…Crossbow parts and bolts are missing from the Ultimate Assassin Research Lab.
…! The parts themselves are useless unless someone knows how to put them together to make the weapon, but still. It’s out there.
I…I put it together earlier. Damnit…!
…Why? …How? I don’t know! I didn’t know I could! I was doing inventory, when all of a sudden…it was like I was possessed, and I put it together somehow! Then I ran outta there so fast, I forgot about the crossbow…!
H-how could you be so irresponsible?
Kyahaha! Star’s such a dumbass!
Yeah, like hell I’m gonna be your friggin’ sidekick! You did something way worse than what I did!
I know, I know, but I’m gonna make it right! I’m gonna find that missing crossbow if it’s the last thing I do!
Well, okay, you do that, but we still need to find Leaf. I can search in the building here, top to bottom. Who’s coming with me, and who wants to search outside?
Search teams searching for Leaf inside the Academy, searching for Leaf outside on the grounds, and searching for the missing crossbow in the Academy were figured out. With three distinct goals in mind, the fourteen split up and searched… Just before 9:15 pm, at the bottom of the Basement stairs...
Who…wuzzat…Nee…hee…hee… Don’t try to move around, okay? You’re hurt.
Mecha and Star soon came down the stairs, and were shocked to see what they saw. Zero and Kuromi were tending to Dash, who was bleeding from a somewhat-bandaged head wound. Is he okay?!
W-what the hell happened to him?
I shouldn’t complain, but I’m glad you’re the last two down here. I won’t have to repeat this horrible story anymore…
As Zero recounted what had happened, other voices could be heard in the Library, too. When the late arrivals entered the library, they were met with another shocking scene. …! N-no fuckin’ way…
They saw blood in the Library. Blood covered a toppled tower of books, and a trail of blood led to the moving bookcase and the Secret Door. And, everyone besides Leaf was accounted for. Several things soon happened in quick succession: Fenrir and Zero took Dash upstairs to check his wound; Melody ran out of the room, while Kuromi followed her; and Star began pounding on the Secret Door. Leaf! Leaf! If you’re in there, try to open the door! Come on!
Leaf! Please!
If you can hear us, say something!
The rest just stood there, as if shell-shocked. Kira called for Monokuma to explain this horrible sight. Without a body, the bear would not confirm or deny that anything had happened to anyone. However, the black-and-white bear had this to say… I told everyone, didn’t I? The mastermind will kill another each day, unless someone else does it first.
Monotaro’s 10 pm night time announcement would play soon enough. Those who hadn’t left already would leave the bloody crime scene in the Library. They would then leave the Academy building together. Some would try to keep the group together. Most would just head to bed, and await the next day. Tomorrow, their number would possibly shrink even further at the mastermind’s bloody hands… …Unless someone else killed first. Hey everyone, Tri here again with the second preview. The third should be the last.
I'll need to hold signups for Chiaki. The signup date and time will be finalized when the third preview is posted. So, look forward to that.
More to come. :)

2023.06.01 04:37 Garbage_McTrash [USA-IL] [H] Custom PC (12600k, 3080 FE, 32GB RAM) and EVGA 3080 ti [W] Local Cash/Paypal
Good evening HWS!
I am selling my personal PC with the following specs:
PCPartPicker Part List:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/x32C3y CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S redux 70.75 CFM CPU Cooler (2 Fans)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B660M AORUS Pro AX DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Storage: Crucial MX300 750 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Crucial P3 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Storage: Another Random 500gb SATA SSD
Video Card: NVIDIA Founders Edition GeForce RTX 3080 10GB 10 GB Video Card
Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Cooler Master V850 SFX GOLD 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro OEM - DVD 64-bit
Case Fan: Noctua P12 redux-1700 PWM 70.75 CFM 120 mm Fan x 8 (yes you read that correctly)
I have owned this PC for about a year now and honestly it has been a dream come true. I overkilled the fans to the point where this thing was basically an air conditioner all year round. I have a bunch of (if not all) accessories for the case as well as the Noctua CPU cooler. The 3080 was purchased secondhand and was undervolted since day 1, never any issues and ran all games flawlessly at 1440p. Never messed with the 12600k because it runs perfect stock, in my opinion at least.
The PC does have 2 small issues. The first one being the retainer clip on the primary PCIe slot broke off. I have found it to be purely cosmetic because the mounting screws do 99% of the work anyway. To ensure safety I even installed a GPU bracket because I am an overly cautious person. Second issue is one of the USB-A ports on top of the case doesn't work and I never bothered figuring out why.
As well as the PC, I have a babied (undervolted it's entire life) like new EVGA 3080 ti FTW3 for sale. I am the second owner of the card (bought from another user on HWS) and it still has (as of 5/23/23) 607 days left of a transferable warranty on it. I still have the original box and all the accessories that came with it. It was the original card in the PC build above.
I am selling the PC and the card due to lack of playing time. Bought a house recently and fixing it up has taken up most of my time and will take even more of it up with the summer coming since I'm a teacher and get the time off.
Looking to get $600 w/o GPU or $1000 with GPU for the PC (local only) and $600 local cash (preferred) or $650 shipped for the 3080 ti.
If interested I can swap out the 3080 for the 3080 ti for the difference in price (+$200).
Thanks!

2023.06.01 04:36 Nosajhpled [We stopped robbing humans and started an orc-themed restaurant] - Chapter 12 - Fantasy
Richard heard his name. He swung his gaze towards the source, catching sight of a formidable man rapidly striding in his direction. This behemoth of a man towered approximately six-and-a-half feet tall, had a breadth akin to an orc, and showcased bulging muscles that flexed with each purposeful step. His complexion was peculiar, almost like a pink orc if one dared to envision such a creature. Unsettled and uncertain, Richard remained rooted, eyes glued to the advancing figure.
The colossal figure slumped without grace into the chair opposite Richard. The chair beneath him groaned audibly, protesting against his massive weight. Leaning over the table, his wild, unnerving gaze bored into Richard. Tangled beard and hair strained against the confines of a hair net, a requirement for all the cooks. “Richard, you old dog!” The man sneered, his mismatched eyes widening unevenly. Richard couldn’t help but notice the gaps in his teeth.
“Wait a minute. Where’s your scar?” The man’s voice boomed, echoes of a forgotten battlefield lingering in his tone. He squinted, his eyes narrowing into slits as they studied Richard. His pinkie, large and rough like the rest of him, traced a path down his face, starting from the furrowed forehead, crossing his left eye, and down to the weather-beaten cheek. “Don’t tell me you got rid of it. I worked hard, giving you that scar,” he growled, his voice filled with a hint of both pride and accusation.
Richard’s eyes went wide with surprise. This enormous man was the legendary Barbarian Battleax of the Battleax clan from the region of Battleax (not a bastion of creativity, those barbarians). Richard’s father, Richard (orcs, dear reader, aren’t particularly creative either), fought this man in the Orc Wars. They were mortal enemies.
A hush fell over the tavern, a silence so profound it could rival a crypt’s. The elf bard was watching with a mischievous grin. She was going to write an epic ballad about this fight.
Straightening his posture, Richard locked his gaze with the barbarian’s, his voice steady as he said, “You must be Battleax of the Battleax clan from the region of Battleax. I am Chief Richard, son of Chief Richard.”
Old Battleax cast his crazed eyes down to the table, “Oh, the old orc is gone?” Richard stayed silent. The old barbarian looked up, “He was a good orc. The best with a spear.” Battleax shook his head, “I hope I get to battle with him again in the afterlife. He was,” Battleax paused with a frown, “He was the best mortal enemy a guy could ever have.” His sudden pounding on the table startled everyone, “We’ll battle in the afterlife! It’ll be grand!” His eyes gleamed wild with a ragged, toothy grin.
Taken aback, a flicker of confusion clouded Richard’s eyes, “Do barbarians,” he started, his voice hesitant as he navigated this unexpected topic, “go to Orc Heaven?”
“No!” Battleax laughed, “It’s west of Orc Heaven, in the mountains. Ah, one day.” The crazy eyes went unfocused, and the old barbarian began to sing, “Rocky roads take me there, to a heaven so fair.” The barbarian took a big inhale and screamed out, “Wystginia! Free to roam, my heavenly home!”
“Dad!” shouted the woman who had taken Richard’s order, “Stop singing. You’ll scare the customers away!”
Battleax looked at her, his eye darting wildly, but then calmed. “Ah, Batty, you’re right.” He turned to the tavern and shouted, “Sorry!” He waved to the elf on stage, who, with some disappointment, began to strum her instrument.
“So, you are old Richard’s pup.” He pointed to the frowning woman beside him, “This is my daughter, Battleax. Behind the bar is my son Battleax. The one in the kitchen is my other son Battleax. By the door is my youngest, Battleax.” Battleax senior looked at a confused face of Richard and shrugged, “Uh, it’s an old family name. We stick with what works.”
Richard laughed, “Tradition is important. Is the bar cat’s name Battleax too.” He pointed to the cat sleeping on the bar.
Battleax’s eyes went wide, “No! That’s Cuddles.” The old barbarian leaned over the table towards Richard, “I’d be careful, pup. That ain’t no cat.” Before Richard could say anything, Battleax hollered, “Bat, another round of ale. Hey Ax,” He shouted into the kitchen, “Fix me some hot wings; I’m eating with my new buddy.”
Richard watched the Battleaxes go to work. “Batty, Bat, Ax,” Richard said, “Good way to tell them apart” He looked towards the door, “Uh, BA?”
Battleax roared with laughter, “Good guess, and it was. But the boy is going through a phase. Gave himself a silly nickname.” The old man turned to look at his son, “Isn’t that right, Greg!”
Greg rolled his eyes and looked away. Richard noticed that, unlike the other Battleaxs, Greg wore all black. His outfit looked like a robe or something a monk would wear.
“The boy don’t even want to carry a battleax,” The old barbarian grumbled, “He’s too good for it. Wants to carry something called nunchucks. Swing sticks on a rope. And that silly outfit. Bah!”
Richard laughed; he didn’t know what a nunchuck was, but from the bulging muscles of Greg, no matter what, it would hurt.
Batty returned with three plates and two new pints of ale. She slid two plates in front of Richard and one in front of Battleax, their contents causing wafts of mouth-watering aroma to float up and dance around their nostrils. One bore what looked like a perfectly round pieces of bread, its surface darkened to a crisp and speckled with grains of salt. The other matched the plate in front of Battleax. It was a mound of meat, its glistening surface seared to a perfect brown, and it had a smoky, spicy scent that tickled the senses.
Batty winked and said, “Good luck, and enjoy.”
Battleax grabbed a piece of meat off his plate and slurped the meat off the bones. He chewed, swallowed, and grunted before he grabbed the next piece. Richard followed the barbarian’s lead. He grabbed a piece of meat and sucked off the meat as best he could, leaving two bones.
Richard enjoyed the rich, spicy flavor. A faint burn began to register as he reached for the next piece. Abruptly, it transformed into a blazing inferno, searing the inside of his mouth. He seized his pint of ale, gulping it down in a desperate attempt to douse the burning. He wiped away the sweat beading on his brow.
Battleax erupted into laughter, hammering the table. “It’s got a kick!” He grabbed another wing, eating it without hesitation.
Richard liked it. Noticing the old barbarian was ahead of him, he picked up another wing. They matched each other wing for wing. Each taking long draws from their pint of ale, eyeing the other as they ate.
“Try the pretzel. It’s a tavern favorite.” Battleax suggested.
Following his lead, Richard took a bite of the round, salted bread - the pretzel. It lacked the spice of the wings but had its own unique appeal. He savored the added flavor of the salt.
Once they finished the wings, Battleax belched and rubbed this stomach. Richard nibbled on the pretzels.
“So, what brings you to my tavern?” Battle Ax asked.
“I wanted to see the elf sing; I heard he was good,” Richard said.
“She’s the best,” Battleax said, “Her dad was one of the generals during the Orc Wars.”
Richard thought for a moment. “Oh, uh, she’s good. That song was, it, was, like home.”
Battleax gives him a wink, “Don’t worry. I get those pronouns mixed up too. My old eyes don’t do so well anymore. Thought she was a boy for about a month until Batty took me aside and corrected me. She didn’t mind; she knew I didn’t mean no harm.”
Richard smiled, thinking of the twins. They didn’t mind their names and no one cared. They were who they were.
“So you just wanted to hear pretty music?” Batttleax asked.
“Well, I wanted to see what this tavern was like. I was looking for ideas.” Richard said.
“What? You starting a tavern?” Battleax started to get crazy eyes.
“No!” Richard held up his hands, “We are making bacon and eggs.”
“What!” Battleax shouted, “That’s you!” He laughed, “I’ve been meaning to get out there. Heard it’s the best breakfast around. You doing any barbeque?”
“No. Eggs, bacon, toast, BLT, coffee, and vanilla latte.” Richard said.
“BLT? Vanilla latte? I’ve never heard of those.” Battleax said.
“Dad!” Batty interrupted them as she sat down more ale, “We have to get vanilla lattes. I heard they are the best.”
Battleax waved his hand, “Sure, sure. We can go one morning.” He looked back at Richard, “Really, no barbecue? I remember your dad’s was the best.”
Caught off guard, Richard asked, “How do you know?”
“Well, we took turns cooking at night after the battle. The orcs made the best barbecue I’ve ever had. The only good thing about Wednesday was it was the orc’s turn to cook.”
“You ate dinner together,” Richard asked.
“Sure, just because we were at war didn’t mean we couldn’t be friends and eat and drink together. Hell, boy, when I gave your dad that scar, he made me a double helping of brisket.”
Before Richard could ask any more questions, a large plate of wings was sat down in the middle of the table. “You ready for round two, pup,” Battleax said with wild eyes.
“Hell yeah!” Richard shouted.
The ale flowed freely. The elven bard started to play an epic tune as the crowd in the tavern began to cheer the two on. Richard met wing for wing, the old barbarian. Plate after plate was devoured until the barbarian threw his hands up.
“I’m done!” He shouted. The crowd cheered. Battleax stood up and addressed the crowd, ”To my new nemesis Chief Richard, son of Chief Richard!” More cheering. Battleax held his hands up for silence, “I want everyone to try out Chief Richard’s new restaurant, uh,” He looked back at the orc, “What’s the name?”
Richard’s eyes went wide, “We haven’t named it yet.”
Battleax turned back to the crowd, “Try out the new unnamed restaurant on the edge of town! To Chief Richard!” The crowd chanted along. Richard waved. They were going to make stupid amounts of gold.
“Time for me to get back to work,” Battleax said to Richard, “I’ll be round to try that, uh, BLT and vanilla latte.” With a final wave, Battleax retreated back into the bustle of the kitchen.
Batty started to collect the dishes, “Need anything else, Chief?”
“No, what do I owe?” Richard asked.
“No, no. When you eat with Dad, you eat for free. Besides, you are his new nemesis. You’re family now!” Batty gave him a wink and a smile as she left.
Richard started to understand the stories his dad used to tell of the Orc Wars. He got up from his table to leave; he waved to Batty and Greg as he left the tavern. The daylight and fresh air felt good. His stomach not so much, but he enjoyed the food and his “battle.”
“Chief Richard,” Upon hearing his name, Richard turned around. A sense of comfort washed over him at the sight of Rose, Bob, and the imps. He was looking forward to the walk back to camp. He had learned so much, and they had much to discuss.

2023.06.01 04:31 tyrannosaurus_fred Photo editing upgrade
I originally built this rig back in 2017 for photo editing in Lightroom and Photoshop. It's never used to play games. I'm wanting to go ahead and upgrade it. I'd like to get a new precessor, system drive and photo storage drive(s).
I'm thinking the i7 7700k, a Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB NVMe M.2 for the system drive, and I'm thinking about using some sort of fast 4-8tb mechanical HDDs either internally using the SATA controller to do a raid or maybe an external USB 3 setup.
Any suggestions?

2023.06.01 04:05 TheNavidsonRec First Build Fine Tuning... Help.
I've finally gotten to a place where I can build my first PC. Beyond excited but I hadn't expected how overwhelming of a process this could be. I wanted to go with the AM5 chip but the cost of everything skyrocketed. Settled on the AM4 because it seems like it should be able to last a few years before I get the itch to make a second build. I came into this not knowing very much, and still don't, but I pieced this together after hours of research. Are there ways to get better cohesion with these parts? Can I save in certain areas?
Build:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: ASRock Challenger D OC Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Video Card
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro Tempered Glass ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Monitor: Acer Nitro XV272U Vbmiiprx 27.0" 2560 x 1440 170 Hz Monitor
Appreciate any help with the process. Thanks.

2023.06.01 04:05 Fable_Darling Eight Hundred And Fifty-Second Night
More good news and more bad news. I wonder how many times I'm going to start these letters like that. We can start with the good news this time; the cantaloupe survived the night. I went out as soon as I woke up to uncover the plants and they were perfectly fine. They weren't even wilted. Of course, the birds decided to attack some of the bush beans instead, leaving two plants completely bald of leaves, but I have plenty of bush beans. The bean plants are still in the ground, only lightly nibbled, so they'll probably survive.
Onto the bad news, I had computer trouble today. Perhaps it was the heat. It was a boiling 30º today and even in the shade, you could feel it. I still spent several hours out there because I'm a lizard but maybe I shouldn't hold everything else to such a standard. Though, part of me isn't sure if the heat was to blame. I didn't start working until the afternoon, once the midday peak of the heat had passed. Once I tried, most of my documents wouldn't load. I eventually gave up on working on my stories and instead decided to gather research for some of those articles. That doesn't require much actual writing or document loading; it's just copying and pasting link addresses. That is when I ran into another problem. I'm working on an article about strange books and I had one particular novel in mind but I couldn't not for the life of me, remember the title. I watched a video about it years ago but I could find the video; I tried looking up the best description I could recall but the plot of the actual book mostly escapes me. I didn't need the book for the article for its plot. I was interested in the book because, from what little I can recall, the author write it with the intent that the reader rip it apart. It was some nonsensical dystopian short story that was written for the express purpose of the reader destroying the book, perhaps without even reading it. That is all I can remember about the book and clearly, that isn't enough to job Google's memory of mine. I search for hours and found nothing. Unfortunately, I ended my day outside, frustrated and unhappy. On the bright side, I had ten other books to write about in the article so I can still finish it, but the disappointment of not including this particular book still plagues me. Will I ever remember the title? Knowing my luck, only after the article is finished.
Yours & Mine,
S.O. Skinner

2023.06.01 03:53 WasdCritics Stray
| Stray is a fantastic feline experience, where the player, as a kitten, goes on a journey to help the city and the friends he has made in it, by crawling around the city in an attempt to escape from it. The game proposal embodies something of the very instinctive nature of a cat, because when separated from his friends, the main goal of the player as a cat is to find them again. The game's story proposes this reunion as the ultimate goal, and to achieve it it is necessary to experience the new environment in which the kitten finds himself. The journey is rewarding as a whole, the characters presented and that are part of the construction of the story are remarkable, each one in their own way, there is always, in each one of them, a feeling of affection for the player, the feeling of security when interacting and being guided by them for the tasks is undeniable. Even that is why at the moment of betrayal of one of them the surprise hits us like a crusader, it is unexpected in many ways. This idea of the nature of a cat and the personification of the player as one goes through the details that the game proposes, such as the lack of a name for the cat or even the inability to understand the communication of other species, at least in a first moment in the game. This lack of "human" attributes in this animal brings the player closer to the experience of transposing himself into an animal, almost as a simulation, this makes all the experiences lived during the story be personified by the player. Now, speaking of the content of this journey in Stray, I feel a very strong investigative character, there are always secrets to discover, such as: where am I? Who are these enemies? How do I get out of here? Who is this little robot B-12? This character can be observed even in the little drone B-12, since one of the goals of the game is to recover its lost memories. https://preview.redd.it/w7arv7vpbb3b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e7995a9769bfe63a76a7d3cd304c28430f013a1 Thinking about the ambiance of the game, the scenarios presented are diverse, especially considering the size of the game that does not exceed 9 hours of gameplay until its completion. The diversity of scenarios works on the axis of the idea of "city", containing the outside of the city at the beginning, the slums, sewers, apartments, uptown, factories and command center. These scenarios, despite not being large in extension, are well worked and detailed taking care with each element present in it, greatly increasing the immersion of the player, thus providing a satisfying experience. In relation to the aesthetics of the game I feel the degree of realism surprising, both used in the scenery as in the kitten. When facing the quality of realism, there is an impression of being inside a "cat simulator", but considering the characters present in the game, apart from the cat, this feeling is attenuated. This happens because the other characters present a lesser degree of realism and transition into something more playful and cartoonish, for example, the robots with their TV faces and the Zurg's that look like killer stuffed animals. This aesthetic proposal of the mixture between cartoon and realism pleases me because it talks well with the game's proposal of being in the skin of a cat (realism) and the cartoon used this way presents itself as a tool for suspension of disbelief, which is necessary in a story about a city-saving cat. Another aesthetic point worth mentioning is the soundtrack, it works very well as an element of immersion of the player in the environment, it highlights the apocalyptic cyberpunk atmosphere present in the game. Analyzing the game mechanics, the jumping puzzle proposal makes sense considering the natural characteristics of a cat, a slender animal that likes to climb on everything and walk in unusual places. In addition, the jumping puzzle lends itself to give protagonism to the player and make him feel as the engine of the game's story by actually performing the actions that move the plot along. The B-12 drone works very well as a sentimental element, in that it brings the player closer to the feelings of the other characters and also creates an interpersonal feeling relationship between the kitten and the robot. It is usually at this point that I mention the negative sides of the games I seek to analyze, fortunately no negative points come to mind worth commenting on, perhaps the only two problems - which are not really problems - is the fact that there is no customization for the kitten, and that unfortunately the game ends too quickly. submitted by WasdCritics to u/WasdCritics [link] [comments] |
2023.06.01 03:52 Blue_Shark_13 I want to do high school over again because I missed out on being a teenager.
I'm autistic and I had no close friends in high school and when I graduated, I just felt empty because I didn't get to make memories with anyone. After that my life fell apart. I failed college because I didn't fit in and didn't have anyone to help me figure out what I wanted to do, so I just stopped going to class. I'm 32 now and have never had a job and my family made me move with them to an isolated area in the middle of nowhere, and I never get to go out anywhere because I can't drive and there's no bus system nearby, so I feel trapped and hopeless.
I feel like my life is ruined because I missed out on being young and I don't see the point in getting older. It makes me want to scream when I think of how many young people are in high school right now and get to have a group of friends to grow up with and go to the prom with and cheer for them when they graduate. I NEVER felt accepted or like I mattered growing up because other kids don't care about you when you're autistic, they just think you're weird and not worth it. It's not fair that they get to have best friends to go to the mall or the movies with, or go on trips to Disneyworld with, or celebrate their birthday with! It's not fair that they get to have friends to hug them and give them emotional support when they're feeling down because I never had anyone who reached out to me or helped me feel like I belonged anywhere! And all these movies and TV shows that glamorize being a teenager and getting to develop a sense of identity with their friends and be independent just make it worse. I sometimes have dreams where I'm back in high school and this time I make an effort to put myself out there and the other kids are smiling at me and inviting me to do things with them and then I wake up and just feel more miserable. Those dreams are really the only time that I ever feel happy anymore.
I really don't have any hope in the future and I don't want to get any older, I just want to go back and re-do those years and if I can't then I should just die because life has no meaning now.

Chapter Master Calgar is the Current chapter Master of the Ultramarines. Considered to be the most successful Ultramarine period short of Guilliman himself, Calgar had relatively humble origins as a servant-boy named "Tacitan". Tacitan's best friend was the noble scion of House Calgar, the original Marneus Calgar whom he idolized. When the original Calgar was killed by a chaos corrupted trainer, Tacitan took the name of "Marneus Calgar" in his honor and eventually went to become a full fledged Space Marine.
Calgar has a long and storied history as the Ultramarine Chapter Master with notable deeds of marshalling the defense of Ultramar against Hive Fleet Behemoth, being the last man standing defying the Ork Hordes of Zalathras and facing down Abaddon the Despoiler upon Vigilus. Calgar's career and repitoire continues to grow, especially after crossing the Rubicon Primaris now nicknamed the "Calgar Procedure" due to him being the first volunteer to become Primaris as a firstborn Space Marine.
Feats are labelled "Primaris" are done post Rubicon Primaris. Any feat not labeled as such is prior.

2023.06.01 02:45 etzikom How big of a cliche am I?
I (54F) am newly diagnosed. Still trying to figure out what it all means for me (like, my whole life, I've been called lazy, but now I'm realizing some is overwhelm, bad time management, etc). This sub is helping a lot!
Cliche. Down to last 2 ADHD pills. Clear memory of picking up Rx, so must be ... somewhere. Low-key rip house apart (so husband doesn't do an 'I told you so'). Eventually asked him if he'd seen pills. Nope.
Finally, break down & call pharmacy to see if I can get another bottle. Prepared to grovel and mock myself. Notice there had been no refills left on the Rx. So I couldn't have received a refill. Which means my clear memory was of receiving that bottle. And I'd waited to call for more for no reason except fear of looking foolish. And because I procrastinated dealing with the problem.
How on brand is it to lose track of the meds that are supposed to help you think more clearly?

2023.06.01 02:23 bluenintendo- help me find the right parts for my first pc!
Hello! I'm posting on here because this is my first computer I'm building myself, I've had a computer before but I have no idea how to put together a pc, or what parts I should get. I've been doing a bit of research(scrolling on reddit) and I've found these parts! I have no clue about anything when it comes to computers (I have two monitors and I heard that some mother boards don't support two monitors??) basically I just need to know if the parts I picked are good enough for the tasks I will be doing, which is streaming, editing, and playing every video game you could imagine(but mostly AAA games)! Any advice would be appreciated!!!

2023.06.01 02:18 Jonkompong New build - Finally upgrading from 2600k
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
- 1080p 60+fps gaming. New AAA releases, LoL, WoW, CoD, RPGs, etc.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
- Within the month, but maybe waiting til holiday season if it's worth it.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
- USA, IA - no Microcenter nearby
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
- Open to anything considered reputable.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
- Yes, a little, maybe not at first.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
- Mid-tower, probably black, don't care about LED lighting, 3070/4060 or comparable, 12700k or comparable, 32gb memory, open to AMD builds as well I just don't know the parts.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

2023.06.01 01:54 throwaway7767450 "She's just stuck in her tower"
So a week ago I was diagnosed with bipolar 2. My husband identified what he believed to be full mania from 4 years ago that I don't remember very well. So possibly bipolar 1.
Since then, so many memories are fresh in my mind. There were so many signs and I just never saw it.
One of my best friends describes my depressive episodes as me being in my "tower". He's been saying that for many years. I just thought of that now and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I wish I would have gotten mental help years ago when I was struggling.
I know it's really hard, and there isn't always time/money/transport etc but if you're reading this and you are mentally struggling, please get whatever help you can right now, in the next month if possible. I wish I would have gotten psychiatric help sooner, but the therapy I did, the friends I made, and the husband I married somehow carried me through life and I hope I get to hold on tight to them forever.

2023.06.01 01:53 Loria187 Tally Hall Jukebox Musical Concept
So, like. Ok. I don't think this is ever going to actually become A Thing™, obviously. But that hasn't stopped me before, and it isn't going to now.
I've listened to a little Tally Hall for a while, but recently I've gotten more into them by way of Miracle Musical. Every now and then, when I get really into an artist or band, I'll start creating stories to connect their songs together (especially if some of those connections and stories are already in the music), and sometimes that takes the form of drafting out a jukebox musical. Which is what I'm gonna share in this post.
The working title is Marvin's Marvelous Miracle Musical. Definitely wouldn't be the actual title, but it does kinda accurately reflect the structure of the musical: Act I is an assortment of songs from MMMM and Good & Evil, while Act II is the entirety of Hawaii: Pt II in album order. Also, it's a funny name.
In this post, I'll give y'all what I've got so far: The cast list, a list of songs in each act (with who's singing what in parentheses), and a short bit of plot summary next to each song (which will also cover some of the in-between-songs material). As things currently stand, each song is sung in its entirety with no lines changed (though there are a few where small word changes would also work, and like it would be kinda helpful to have an English version of 宇宙ステーションのレベル7 lol). There are ideas for symbolic arcs and staging/acting choices and interpretations of specific lyrics that I won't be going into here but are, like, in my brain because reasons, so feel more than free to ask questions ^^
Heads up: This is going to be a long post.
Cast:
- Simon (name from The Mind Electric/Inside the Mind of Simon): Joint protagonist and childhood friend of Juno.
- Juno (name from Ruler of Everything): Joint protagonist and childhood friend of Simon.
- The Siren (name from Dream Sweet in Sea Major): Joint antagonist and Simon’s imaginary friend.
- The Erlking (name from Murders): Joint antagonist and Juno’s imaginary friend.
- Marvin (name from, like, the concept of MMMM): Juno’s father and town mayor.
- Violet (name for the fact that the Korean word for purple/violet is “bora”): Simon’s mother.
- Sally (name from T.H.I.S. skits “The Pretty One” and “What’s Wrong?”): A friend of Juno.
- Ryan (name from T.H.I.S. segment “Questioned Answers/Tally Mail”): A friend of Simon.
- Ensemble: Various other characters, including school friends and bullies, adult citizens of the town, and assorted spirits and illusory figures.
Act I:
Hidden in the Sand (Marvin, Ensemble): Marvin and Violet meet on the beach, having not seen each other since they broke up years ago. Both, now married to other people, briefly catch up on each other’s lives and watch their kids meet each other for the first time.
Turn the Lights Off (Juno, Simon, Ensemble): Simon and Juno grow up together and become fast friends. They’re misunderstood and often bullied by other kids, but find an escape in the form of imagination games, pretending to be wizards and ghost-hunters and the like. They each create an imaginary friend, and imagine their new companions defending them against the meaner classmates.
The Whole World and You (Ryan, Sally, Ensemble): Simon and Juno are in late middle school, and with how close they are as friends, many other students assume they’re dating. Their other friends give them the idea that maybe they really do
like like each other, and they ultimately decide to give things a shot.
Out in the Twilight (Juno, Simon): Now about to graduate high school, Simon and Juno have been going strong; still, much of their relationship seems like more of the same adventures and escapades they went on as kids, just without the make-believe. They’re as of yet unjaded, and greatly looking forward to being more independent and making their own calls in life.
Ruler of Everything (Erlking, Siren, Simon, Juno, Ensemble): Simon and Juno are now married adults, and the faults in their relationship become clearer the more they try to hide who they truly are and fit the mold that’s expected of them, both in their interpersonal life and in the world at large. The Siren and Erlking, their old imaginary friends, resurface and watch from afar as the two live their lives, calling out the couple’s facades to no avail.
Just Apathy (Simon, Juno): Simon and Juno confront the problems in their relationship—in part, both realizing/owning that they aren’t straight, and have been trying to force a romantic attraction that isn’t there—and while ultimately they seem willing to commit to one another platonically, they don’t feel their relationship can continue the way it’s been going.
A Lady (Erlking, Siren, Ensemble): The Siren and the Erlking formulate a plan while Simon and Juno are sleep, out of fear that if the couple is no longer with each other, they’ll forget their old friends entirely, thus causing them to fade from existence. As the two are dreaming, their not-yet-fully-forgotten imaginary friends try to inspire them back into their old ways.
Misery Fell (Juno, Simon, Siren, Erlking, Ensemble): Having had strange dreams the night before, Simon and Juno grow disenchanted with the life they’ve been trying to lead, and find a sudden burst of motivation to seek out a better way of being (this being the Siren and Erlking’s doing). They run through the town, at first starry-eyed and eventually near-manic, and at the end of the song, an unspeakable idea seems to have struck them both.
Taken for a Ride (Marvin, Simon, Juno, Violet, Ensemble): Marvin is burnt out from mayoral duties but soldiering on with a more resentful and power-hungry attitude. Over the course of the song, he steadily breaks with reality, and it’s revealed that Simon and Juno are ostensibly behind this, with the two performing a ritual that mirrors the magic they played out as kids, only more potent. While their goal was only to bring more wonder and weirdness to the town, the damage is much more acute. Marvin is found alive but unwaking the next day, and when Violet tries to figure out what happened to him, she too gets too close to the gap between reality and dream and falls unconscious in much the same way, this time before Simon and Juno's eyes.
Fate of the Stars (Simon, Juno, Ensemble): As the sun sets, Simon and Juno attempt to figure out what’s happening, it dawning on them that they’ve done something seriously wrong. Reality slowly appears to turn into a stranger and stranger funhouse mirror reflection of itself, with the ensemble of their friends singing ominous warnings to them as if possessed, until the two suddenly find themselves decidedly “not in Kansas anymore.” They eventually make it solid ground, but are unable to wake up from whatever dream they’re in.
& (Erlking, Siren): The Siren and the Erlking, now appearing as adults, confront Simon and Juno to make their motives clear. Since the two were bound to leave each other one way or another, the imaginary friends sought out another means of securing their existence: pulling their creators into their reality so they could have them for themselves, with Marvin and Violet as mere unintended collateral. As twilight fades and night begins, the two pairs (Simon and the Siren, and Juno and the Erlking) find themselves torn from each other. While both imaginary friends seem eager to spend eternity in this dream with their humans, Simon and Juno push them away, eventually causing them to temporarily disappear with a promise that they'll eventually be back for more—if the couple doesn't seek them out or bring them back themselves.
Intermission
Act II:
Introduction to the Snow (Simon): Considerable time has passed within the dreamscape between acts. Both Simon and Juno are trying to find ways to reunite with each other for longer than a single twilight, and to escape the dream. Turning to the sort of magic that brought him here, Simon gains a prophetic glimpse into the way his story will ultimately end: in a snowy place, without Juno, and with him joining the Siren, who promises that he will "live forever tonight."
Isle Unto Thyself (Juno, Simon, Ensemble): Juno, with the methods she's been working at over time, is briefly able to hear Simon, from which she gains the impression that he’s decided to leave her and stay with the Siren (when in fact, he’s only seeking out the Siren in order to eventually escape with Juno). Juno sings about her feelings of heartbreak, while Simon prepares to call forth the Siren within the confines of a summoning circle, for negotiations.
Black Rainbows (Siren, Ensemble): Simon successfully summons the Siren, who explains how she plans to make things right, by reworking the dream and allowing it to continue indefinitely in a state of created perfection. Juno will finally live a happy life in a world that accepts her, and with a partner who can “fully love her”, and Simon will do the same; the implication that the two will have to be apart for things to be perfect is strong, though unspoken directly. The Siren regales Simon with a wild display of rainbow lights as she speaks, in an attempt to impress and distract him.
White Ball (Simon, Siren): While Simon is distracted, the Siren escapes the summoning circle, and steadily works a spell over Simon to make him fall in (some form or another of) love with her, ultimately so he’ll forget his quest for Juno and go along unquestioningly with her own plans instead. The two dance together as the magic slowly grows stronger and stronger.
Murders (Juno, Erlking): Having caught another brief glimpse of Simon, Juno becomes enraged and begrudgingly seeks out the Erlking’s assistance. They meet at the Fountain of Infinite Mirror, and the Erlking pushes Juno to murder Simon within the dream, dipping a dagger into the fountain’s psychically poisonous waters to give to her as a weapon. Dawn arrives, and Simon and Juno are able to see and hear each other at last. Juno goes in for the “kill,” only to find that as Simon desperately explains what he was trying to do for the both of them, she is momentarily unable to control her actions and stabs Simon in the head, before the Erlking withdraws the magic
he’s been working over her.
Space Station Level 7 (Violet, Simon, Ensemble): Violet emerges from the recesses of the dreamscape as the song begins, searching for something or someone she recognizes, and telling herself that she’ll be alright in the end. She finds Simon, still alive in some sense, but clearly deeply confused and in anguish. She stays by his side and sings to him in his distress, reassuring them both that they’ll make it back home—that as many painful memories as life there holds for both of them, those are ultimately what make the good moments truly valuable. As the sky grows darker and the dreamscape grows more chaotic, Violet runs and attempts to take Simon with her, but he stays behind.
The Mind Electric (Erlking, Simon, Juno, Ensemble): Juno attempts to find her way through the fracturing dreamscape, while the Erlking tells her his plans for what to do with the dream. The longer they stay, the closer the dream gets to total undone chaos, but he promises to make something new, something better (than the current state of things and than the Siren's proposed ending), from the wreckage of the old—so long as Juno doesn’t leave or forget about him. It's strongly implied that the attempted murder of Simon was a ploy to make Juno more likely to go along with this plan. Juno remains skeptical. As the song switches direction, she finds Simon in a nightmare of his own mind’s unwilling creation, and sticks it out with him while both the Siren and Erlking attempt to regain control over their former friends, and ultimately over the eventual state of the entire dream. Simon and Juno fight back, shaking off the magic cast over them only to gain a much clearer picture of the danger they’re truly in—that if the dream does go to ruin, they'll go with it.
Labyrinth (Siren, Juno, Simon): Simon and Juno find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of their imaginary friends’ joint creation, their last desperate bid to get what—and who—they want. It seems as though there are only two ways out: towards the Siren’s ending, or towards the Erlking’s. The couple try to make their way through, facing various fears within the labyrinth along the way, while repeatedly dodging the fear that one of those two paths is ultimately inevitable if they want the pandemonium to end. They eventually reason that, even if it's only pushing the end down the line, there is a third way out for now: the twilight is soon to be over, and the two will be pulled away from this place. Over the end of the song, the two manage to find some amount of peace within the labyrinth as they await their escape, mixed with the grief of leaving each other again and the fear of what will come next.
Time Machine (Marvin, Juno): Day breaks, separating Simon and Juno. The dream continues to destabilize further and further. Juno finds Marvin, who’s been desperately scrambling to go back in time to before his sense of reality broke—and, as Juno finds, to before he and Violet left each other, so he can get a second chance at their relationship. Juno stops him (if Marvin and Violet never break up, then Juno and Simon both cease to exist), but realizes she can make use of the strange contraption he’s pulled together. She considers the places she could go—far back in time to live a life she didn’t get the chance to live... maybe even far forward, to when everything sorted out as per the Erlking’s plans, if it really must come to that. Before making her leave, though, she stops at the next twilight to say her goodbyes to Simon.
Stranded Lullaby (Simon, Juno): Juno finds Simon in the middle of the ocean, reluctantly drifting towards the Siren's shores out of the same sense of defeat she felt in the time machine. In that moment, she finds herself unwilling to leave him behind. While afloat in the nearly-broken dream, the two sing to one another about reuniting, about the ways they failed each other in the past, and about their inability to control where they’re headed anymore. In the last moments before it seems their fate is to be decided, they resolve to do as right by each other as they can: to try to better understand each other without needing to fix anything.
Dream Sweet in Sea Major (Simon, Juno, Siren, Erlking, Ensemble): Simon and Juno wash up on the shore of the snowy place that Simon had foreseen; the Siren waits for him, and the end she planned seems near. Simon, however, chooses
Juno instead, with the two abandoning either plan presented to them and electing to find their own way through the chaos together. Initially unsure of what to do, the two become lucid to what happened to them while asleep back in Act I, and how they might be able to pull the same tricks as their imaginary friends did then. They find their real-world sleeping selves through the cracks in reality, wake them up (along with Marvin and Violet), and gently guide their real selves away from their old habits and external pressures and towards the things they wish they'd done sooner, before easing off the reins and watching themselves live the lives they actually wanted to. Real-life Simon and Juno ultimately start relationships with Ryan and Sally respectively, while remaining faster friends with each other than ever before. The Siren and Erlking accept that they are going to die, and try to make their last night together as romantic as they can as the world vibrantly falls apart. At the end of the song, the parts of Simon and Juno that remain in the dream—perhaps the selves they used to be, or that they tried so hard to pretend to be—realize they’re going to die as well, as the true Simon and Juno live on.
