Today there was a marathon for kids 0-4 years in my town. My (30F) kid (3m) was signed up for the marathon. We had plans that he was gonna run with his friend (2m). It started at 10 and we said we would meet at 9:45 and start a little after 10 so there would be less kids.
We got there on time, Waited until 10 past 10. No word from them. We got in line, and held a place for them thinking they would show up any time. I called them while in the que and no response.
They did not appear. After 5 min in the que the kids started running. So we did the same. We thought we had more time in the que and could hold a spot for them while waiting. Rather than stopping my kid and telling him To wait while the others ran I just decided that we would run without his friend.
When we finnished we looked for them and waited. The kids could run again if they Wanted. The youngest kids had the track from 10 to 11 with multiple starts.
So we waited for them, and waited and waited. At 10:55 (I kid you not) they wrote to say they just ran the race. When we had been waiting by the entrance hoping to see them. I was like okey we have been waiting here for 40 minuties so our kids could run together but fine. Then we let our kid run one last time at 11 before they closed. I texted her saying our kid is running again.
She got mad at me over all this. Saying we were so mean to her kid by not waiting on them in the first place and then running again without them. The thing is, They did not response, write or call. And when they did show up at 10:50 to run they did not call either. They were just mad that we ran the time we said we could together so they ran without us. I guess to prove a point.
She said her kid was screaming the entire time and was so mad that he could not run with us.
Sure we could have Waited when we did not find them at around 10, the time we said we would run. But I feel like this is on them for not calling or textning. If my kid did not get to run at the start he would have had to see all the other kids run and wait for 50 minutes for his friend.. that does not seem fair to my kid. But she feels we excluded for kid and acted mean. She is so angry that she does not want to be friends anymore.
AITA for not waiting for her and her kid eventho we had no idea where they were or if they would make it on time?

Hey gang. I'm probably what you'd consider a superfan of Rivian. I don't have one yet, but I'm eagerly waiting my Dual Motor config. So eager that I happily spend my free time maintaining the Community Delivery Estimate Tracker.
But, I keep seeing posts about vampire drain. And I wanted to comment that it's NOT common for an EV to be wasting as much energy as people are claiming. I personally have a 2020 KIA Niro EV, and letting it sit unused for a week consumes less than 1% of my battery. AND, the battery pack in my car is ½ of what's in the Large Pack. So I waste what's effectively less than 0.5% of the Large Pack per WEEK with my KIA.
Claims that people are losing 10% per week. Assuming 0.5% of loss is normal, that's 9.5% wasted per week.
As of March 31st, Rivian has produced 35k vehicles. They produced 10k vehicles in Q1, so an extra 10-15k vehicles in Q2 is not far-fetched. That's around 50k vehicles.
If we take 9.5% wasted energy per week, extrapolated into kWh by day across an estimated 50k total vehicles produced, we get 93,500 kWh. If we factor in charge efficiency loss, that's 103,900 kWh pulled from the energy grid per day.
To put that into context, that's the equivalent of:

• 5,400 Rivians driving average daily mileage
• Powering 3,500 homes
• 85,000 lbs of CO2 per day, or 31,000,000 lbs per year
  • 1,600 ICE F150's driving average daily mileage
  • 120 trans-Atlantic flights in a Boeing 747 per year
  • 3 shipping containers (per day) being transported from China to Los Angeles. That's 3 fully loaded cargo ships making that voyage per year.

All of this simply by having your Rivian sit in your garage. There really is no reason for this to be the case.

I'm a bi dude that is definitely straight passing. I'm not in a het relationship or anything. Last year I got a lot of weird looks and even a couple questions about what I was doing there. I met my (ex) boyfriend and he told me he had addiction issues when he was much younger but that he was doing well now. We had a loving relationship and no one did anything wrong, he was always reliable, trusting and there for me. He was always proud of me and he told me how amazing and special I am. I really valued his kind heart and our connection was very real.
But I noticed he still had some problems with drugs and would constantly be low and tired, he started to have problems in the bedroom and he just felt distant. I felt like we were in different places as I am so happy with life and spoke to him about ending things as I was getting upset with seeing him do this to himself, but we decided to work through the problems, meaning we would take a step back whilst he tried to get his recovery back on track.
He then told me he was smoking crack and heroin and that he couldn't be alone at this time and that me breaking up with him had caused him to spiral. I tried to stay supportive but he went back to his ex as apparently "she loves him more than me and she would see him every night and he knows she wont leave" which he says understandably makes recovery easier.
Now he is saying he misses me and that he can't speak to me as she does not want him to, but he doesn't want to let me go. He said he is heartbroken over me but he is so sorry for what he put me through and he knows I'll be happier with someone else. I know I can't save him but I feel a lot of guilt for leaving at what seems like a really bad point for him.
I really hope he is able to recover but I guess I'm wondering why he spiralled with me, as it seemed to get worse whilst with me, although he said he started dabbling a few months before me. He said being with me and seeing me so healthy, happy and full of life made him feel like a scumbag and that is really hard for me to hear.

Y'all, my wife's nephew and his girl are coming to stay for a week. First trip here. So of course I'm welcoming them with dinner when they get here at 5.

For some context and background, i grew up in a highly abusive household, with two alcoholic parents, i've been [email protected] twice, i turned to drug use, hypersexualised myself, got into relationships with horrific age gaps that now make me feel sick, have parented my siblings for most my life, have few friends (not close) etc.
All of this has led to me becoming a rather mature person in a sense. I prefer to stay at home and cook or read a book than go out anymore. For a long time I have managed to rationalise a lot of my insecurities and emotions independently, not self diagnosis but understanding why i feel a certain way, what has caused it, my triggers etc.
I am a very very caring person, i've been in a relationship with my boyfriend (18M) for 5 months now and this is the first healthy relationship i've had. We've took things very slowly but my frequent outbursts of anger, irrational thinking and accusations of cheating, hurtful words began taking a toll on him. This was the first time i realised that I really do need help. I was diagnosed with BPD which has scared me a lot.
A common symptom of BPD is infatuation, it repulses me to see the negative stigma and ideas about personality disorders in the mental health community and online. We CAN fall in love, sometimes we infatuate however we care very strongly for people around us- more than anybody else. No we are not narcissistic, we do not prey on innocent people to try and hurt them, we just struggle to regulate our emotions. No, we are not incapable of a stable relationship it just takes WORK.
All these stigmas have made this diagnosis a very hard pill for me to swallow. My main goal in life is to have a happy family like i was deprived of growing up. To have random people who don't understand the disorder rip your dream away is painful to say the least. I just want to know if anyone else with BPD felt similar after their diagnosis. How did you work through it? Are your relationships okay?

Looking to move by the end of June or August at the latest and in need of 420 friendly (I have a medical card). Not a big fan of smoking indoors but winters get cold and I’d like to stay inside for that lol I’m early 30s and a Navy veteran. Currently in school so schoolwork tends to keep me busy. I love socializing but consider myself an introvert and usually keep to myself most of the time. Hoping to keep things in the 600-1025 range for my portion of the rent. Pet friendly but don’t have my own pets. Would like a place near the L in the Roger Park, Edgewater area but open to location as long as it’s easily accessible to Loyola by train. I’m not a neat freak, but a clean kitchen and bathroom is definitely a must. Let me know if you have any questions for me! I’m pretty flexible, really just looking for a comfortable place to stay for the next year or so.

I (28M) have been with my partner (25F) for 4.5 years now. We met on tinder and started off as friends for a few weeks and then began dating. I wasn't always sure where our relationship would go and harbored some doubts. However, she was infatuated with me and let me be myself and talk about anything and everything and we agreed on a lot of things, but I was unsure how committed I was to her long term.
After close to 2 years I decided to start a graduate program in an adjoining state and would need to move, but was unsure if I was going to ask my partner to come with me. To me, this was me deciding whether or not I was going to really commit to the relationship. I decided it was worth a shot as we had been there for each other and had been very supportive of one another and I thought there could be some long term potential.
Learning to live on our own and together was stressful at first, but soon we found a rhythm that worked for us and spent a lot of time together and had a lot of fun. Of course there were frustrating moments and things we needed to work through, but we always communicated through them and i'm proud to say that we've never had a fight. As my program wound up and I had a potential job back in my home state we began looking at places with some friends to move in to, lest we be forced to move in with either of our parents. Nothing panned out and I suggested we each go back to our respective parents houses and start looking at some places. She was adamant that she did not want to live without me, that she couldn't, for her own mental health reasons. I agreed to move into her parents house until my job came up and then we would work on getting out.
Her parents place was a powder keg. There was extra family there, as they were helping to take care of a sick aunt and this created stress for everyone. On top of this, the house is cramped and there is little insulation and a normal conversation in the kitchen can be heard crystal clear in our room at the end of the hall, even with the door shut, creating issues of privacy. On top of this, I would be short term unemployed and would be finishing up some papers for my program until my job came around and was thus at the home all of the time. After a few months of a frustrating routine helping with the aunt, she was moved into an assisted living facility and everyone caught their breath for a moment. This has been tough on my partner and she talked a lot with me about how overwhelmed she was feeling and I did my best to support her. However, my job that was supposed to come around the new year disappeared because of some miscommunication issues in the business.
It took me some time to get my resume back from a former professor and by the time I did I needed to begin working on my capstone paper for my program. So, looking for a job and thus escaping the house was going to have to wait a little longer.My partner and I have been very open and casual about physical affection, saying I love you, and expressing ourselves with one another and in the past 1.5 years have talked about what type of houses we might want to get in the future, where we want to live, and even about having a child together. So, we've been planning out our future together.
In the beginning of May, I had a breakdown over the state of things: the cramped house with no privacy, making intimacy hard, the job falling through, none of my goals panning out, feeling stuck in a rut, and just generally feeling bitter and frustrated with life. She embraced me and comforted me, told me that it wasn't always going to be like this and that she understands how I feel, and that it would be us together forever. Shortly after, it was my birthday and everything was going ok, I applied somewhere and she told me about possibly getting a place from a friend who is a landlord. About a week later we were hanging out in our room, eating dinner and chatting, telling each other that we loved each other and soon went to bed.I woke up the next morning and my partner came into the room looking sad and I gestured for her to come let me hug her and tell me what's wrong. She breaks away from my hug and looks at me and says that she isn't sure she want's to be in a relationship with me or doesn't know if she loves me romantically anymore, I can't remember which.
Having just woken up I was confused and my mind stared falling apart, I just didn't know what to say. My partner didn't want to talk and kept saying she wanted to leave. She left after about 5ish mins and I became hysterical; she had never brought up feeling like this before. Anyways, I called a friend and my mom, grabbed some personal things and some clothes and headed to my moms. I've been here for a few days and my partner won't respond to me. I haven't blown up her phone, I called, left a voicemail, texted once, and sent a message over snapchat and that's all. Her mom let me know that she's safe but isn't ready to talk yet.
My partner has been open about wanting to marry me, have a home and child with me, and has been incredibly loving and devoted to me during our relationship. We both have ADHD and she has a myriad of mental health issues that have been difficult for us to work through but has been getting some help for them. I know that being in the house, her family, me being there all the time, on top of work, and dealing with her mental health has been a lot for her and she's feeling overwhelmed. I'm not sure what to do as she won't respond to me and has never expressed any issues in our relationship to this extent but my mind has been running in circles to try and speculate on what's going on. All this behavior is very out of character for her. Any input, advice, feedback, or perspectives that others could give would be immensely appreciated. In short, should I just leave her alone for now and how do I know/what can I do to try and save my relationship?

Title cut off: my sister tells my mom about what I do. I realized this recently.. she has nothing to say because I don’t do much outta work as it’s summer break. I stopped telling her my plans. If I am chatting with my sister my mom thinks I’m arguing or being rude I don’t think I did anything wrong because my moms been sending me to camp or after school programs for working parents when she was stay at home so she could have time with my sister.
We live at home at the time as I finish school. So we were always close but my mom was not close with me. This is from childhood. My sister closes the door and confides in my mom where she screams at me for asking for help. I learned to not.
My dad speaks in a “ baby voice “ to my sister and says I’m jealous because I’m washed up and old and didn’t do anything and passed my prime. My brother moved and basically ghosted, for his safety sadly he doesn’t contact us siblings often. My sister will complain about her looks and I hype her up. But I got tired that every time same thing. She said “fine then you are ugly” she tells on me, then acts like she didn’t.
My dad looks at me like he hates me me. He fights with me if I ask him can he help me with like credit card or drivers permit a few years ago. My sister doesn’t have to ask. For my birthday years ago, they got her new roller skates. Which is fine I guess. Also we both live at home but it’s like a multi level and I live with my cousin technically. (It’s my grandpas building) Just ranting

I will obviously consult pros but was curious to know what advice you guys could give me knowing that :
My father died 3 months ago and my mother total liquid assets are now around $600k + a paid house in which she will stay as long as she can.
My mother will also receive a retirement pension of $7k net monthly and she has low expenses.
She is very risk intolerant so stock market.is not an option.
My mother has multiple sclerosis so she might require more care (=more $) when she will move into a retirement home. It also implies she might live less longer than average.
My guess is that she does not have a lot of options : GICs, HISA, HIIA, CASH.TO (even though its an etf)?
Any investment strategies to maximize return with low risk? Any strategies on GICs terms in current rate environment? Any strategies on how she should diversify in different financial institutions? Any advice on anything I mentionned is welcomed.

Making an update post as some had requested and to light someone’s day and spread some positivity.
The Preparation: I followed the recommendations received in the earlier post. A huge shoutout and thanks to u/Dikkatbadhihai for your recommendations. I was wearing an ironed white shirt, no blazer haha, sleeves folded, sky blue jeans and white sneakers. I used a nice perfume I had. I carried the custom bouquet (consisting sunflower, lily, orchids, rose and tuberose), a Kit Kat and Pune’s special delicacy i.e., ‘Bakarwadi’. I also had two wine glasses with me and a bedsheet so that we could sit and watch sunset while sipping some wine if possible.
The meet: I reached early and was waiting for her at a food court in the mall. Plan was to pick her up from there and then go to ‘Seawoods’ mall to have a lunch together at restaurant recommended by a friend. She arrived, we greeted but didn’t do a side hug or something, we were figuring out whether to stay in same mall or go to the next. We decided to proceed as planned. We had trouble locating my car in parking and had to ask around a little bit. By now I was bit worried that the start wasn’t smooth and the hot weather was adding to our woes of getting comfortable with each other. Once we located my car, I swiftly moved ahead, took out the bouquet and presented it to her. She went from a surprise reaction to shying a little and eventually blushed. I got to capture all her reactions in my mobile. Then we headed to the next mall. While on the way, I played the 2000’s hit songs from Spotify as recommended. She started humming along with songs and it did set a romantic tone.
Lunch part of the date: We reached Seawoods and headed to food court. By now we became very comfortable like we were on our video calls. We were walking very close to each other and almost touching. My wrist watch was hitting her hand all along when we were walking in the mall but she didn’t allow me to remove the watch. She located a toy store on the way to food court and bought a cute small captain America bobble head for me to put on my car’s dashboard. By now we were getting touchy with each other. We zeroed on a place to eat and I paid and ordered as she is usually not much decisive. She really liked the chicken seekh kebabs. I was cutting the kebabs into small bites for her to eat and she was trying to stop me from doing it. I took some of her photos before the food arrived, with food and while eating. She was resisting in a cute way but was being a sport and enjoying it. After lunch, we decided to head towards the car. Near the lift, I saw the gaming zone. I asked her to just to go and check it out. We went in and inquired about the bowling alley but there was half an hour wait, so we cancelled. Here I felt I should hold her hand and I went for it and we did. And then onwards we were holding hands all along. Before going to the car, she bought Cinnabon for me to take home as she had told me about it and wanted me to try.
The evening – purely majestic: We headed to the jetty ride in Belapur for the sunset boat ride. The weather was hot and she was yearning for some cool breeze all through the day but it was eluding us all along. We boarded the jetty, sat down and had some water and after a while went on to check out the boat. We found a small place near the engine with two chairs. We could see everything from there so instead of sitting at the regular place with others we decided to call that place ours. We had privacy there but people were coming once in while there as part of the boat tour. Now we were holding hands and leaning our heads onto each other and enjoying the view. The boat started after a while and we started experiencing the breeze. We were now holding each other by the arm. We took some photos of the surrounding in our own mobile. Afterwards I asked her for her phone and went on to capture our photo and she obliged and we took some nice photos alongside each other. After sometime the boat slowed down and we got to see the flamingos near the shore and we tried capturing those adorable birds from distance. Then we went to the front part of the jetty to watch sunset. An extremely romantic vibe was just waiting for us. The sunset was about to happen. A nice cold breeze was flowing, the sky was clear, the red-hot sun was fully visible, a plane was flying in one corner of the sky, flamingos were there on both sides of the sea, in the distance Mumbai’s skyscraper and the under-construction trans harbour link road was visible, some birds were flying over the sea, a few fishing boats were visible too. I was holding her by the shoulder, we were looking at each other once in a while and taking in all the beauty around. For the first time in my life, my heart was satisfied. We stood there till sunset and took some really nice photos together. Once the boat turned, she took me to the back of the boat where we were from start. The night was setting in and we were holding each other close now. After a while once the people moved to the main area and we had privacy, she looked back, came very close and approached for the kiss. We kissed and it was long, intense and passionate. Just purely magical. I had never felt this kind of euphoria all my life. Everything was just surreal. We kissed again before the jetty reached the shore. We got down, walked towards the car holding hands and I jokingly gave her the credit for deciding to go for the jetty ride.
The goodbye – We just had a perfect evening and now we wanted to get some nice chai. We decided to just drive around the palm beach rode and see if we can find a chai tapri. We found a chai place after a while and asked him to make two kadak adrak chai. We sat down nearby and enjoyed the tea. We were exhausted now. We both being introverts, our social battery was now down. We enquired about a park nearby and went there and sat silently on the bench for some time. The park was getting closed, so we moved out. We found a pani puri stall and shared one plate. It was already late and I had to travel back too. So, I decided to drop her to a nearby station so she could head to her home. When we reached the station, I gave her the flower bouquet. The cab was booked and waiting. She was holding the bouquet in one hand and my hand in the other and we walked till the cab. I opened the door and helped her get in the cab and asked her to call me once she reached home. We hugged and she gave me a kiss and got into the cab and we waved each other goodbye. For next one hour, we didn’t communicate much and were just contemplating the entire day. She called me after reaching home. I was still driving back home. We laughed and talked about the day for next one hour till I reached home. Our conversation went on even after reaching home until we realised it’s too late and we should call it a day.
I feel I am really lucky to have lived this wonderful day. Just wanted to share my experience of the date as some had requested and thank people for helping me out.

From the beginning of the Roman Empire to the West’s collapse, I wholeheartedly believe that among all the depraved, despotic, and cruel rulers, Commodus is the worst Roman emperor.
At a time where administration had become super centralized, he spent all of his time partying and being a gladiator, leaving the hands of the empire in unqualified freedmen like Saoterus and Cleander who frequently made mistakes. Such mistakes include devaluing the currency by its largest since Nero’s reign and not responding to famines (this is what got Cleander executed).
Commodus was also incredibly lazy and upon ascending the throne, ended the Macromanic Wars his father Marcus Aurelius cared so much about, even though they were quite literally one step away from total victory. He did this not out of any concern over the casualties of Roman soldiers, but rather cause he wanted to quickly return home and start enjoying the life of the purple.
He was also a megalomaniac. He wanted to be seen as the reincarnation of Hercules and so dressed like him. He renamed Rome to Commodiana and called Romans Commodianans. He took pleasure in killing senators and fighting in gladiatorial games in an obviously rigged manner (standing from a platform to shoot animals, fighting against disabled people or arming his opponents with wands and sponges etc). He also charged the bankrupt Roman treasury 1 million sesterces for every single one of his appearances, and he participated hundreds of times.
The Pax Romana is considered to have ended during his reign. Cassius Dio writes about Commodus’ rule, saying that Rome went “from a kingdom of gold to one of iron and rust.”
As for what I think about other contenders:
Caligula and Nero honestly gets too much hate imo.
In Caligula’s case he gives me a bored kid vibe rather then an insane maniac. Him saying he would nominate his horse as consul could be seen as a way of mocking senators. His executions are not entirely unwarranted either. Marco certainly deserved his punishment and while Gemellus may not have usurped him, it could have gone both ways. People also say he killed Tiberius, but that is not actually agreed upon by all sources, and even if he did, after what Tiberius did to his family, it can probably be seen more as an act of revenge rather than an act of insanity.
Nero was just a frat boy. He killed his own mom yes, but most of everything else is slander. He did not start the fire or fiddle while Rome burned. In fact he wasn’t even in Rome during the time. It’s more his response to the fire like killing a lot of Christians and building a larger palace amidst the wreckage that rubbed everyone the wrong way.
Other than that, something important to note is how during the days of the early empire, administration was not yet super centralized. As such, a big part of being a good ruler was simply having good people in your administration, which both Caligula and Nero did have tons of.
Elagabalus is also seen as one of the worst due to how depraved he was. However he didn’t do as much lasting damage to the already declining empire, and was more so a puppet to the women, who held the real power in the Severan dynasty.
Honorius was terrible, there’s no denying that. He was a figurehead unwilling to help his empire.
However something important that I think isn’t mentioned much is how Stilicho was not perfect. He was very power hungry, and let Alaric escape multiple times, which is not something earlier generals or emperors would have allowed. His policies were also what allowed the barbarian migrations across the Rhine in 406.
As Gibbons puts it, he left it defended "only by the faith of the Germans and the ancient terror of the Roman name"
Valentinian III was also like Honorius, in being a puppet who wished to not do anything. However Valentinian III deserves less blame than Honorius imo, as while he lost far more important territories like North Africa, he also inherited a far worse situation than Honorius.
When looking at all these bad rulers, I believe Commodus did the most damage to the empire.
