 | I used my father in laws very old incubator to incubate some quail eggs that were given to me (the owner said to either hatch them or eat them so I thought why not give it a go). I’ve turned on the incubator and waited for about an hour. The incubator says 37.5 degrees and the humidity says 40% BUT the inkbird says that the humidity is nearly 30% higher than I want! The temp is also out but only by under 1 degree so that’s easy enough to fix. Do I trust the inkbird with the humidity? It’s not a small adjustment to make - it’s pretty huge. I don’t want to kill another batch of chicks 😅 |

My dog has bone cancer(osteosarcoma) and has lost function of his right hind leg. Even tho he can't walk anymore I still take him to the park so he can lie down on the grass and get some fresh air. Whenever other dogs walk near us he starts whining and I can tell he really wants to walk again. His condition is getting worse by the day so I'd really appreciate if anyone could help me.

Same as last time, we are going to start with the gripes!
If something was a gripe in the last post and isn't below, I either no long care, or they fixed it. I'll remark on a few of them after this section.- Honestly... my biggest gripe with the car is that the steering wheel needs to telescope out at least another inch. This is only so high because it's basically the only thing I can think of, aside from interior space, that can't be fixed via software updates. I have chronic back issues that have been better since getting the car due to how adjustable the seat is. But I feel a bit too far away from the wheel.
- The app is missing a lot of no-brainer features and it's SLOW AS HELL. Can't open the trunk. Must set a timer to precondition the battery. Can't get trip/mileage details, or anything like that. Also as of 2.9 I have had intermittent PaaK issues when I never did before.
- Even though I've never had a car with a reverse camera before this, yes I agree with everyone else that loading the camera takes way too long.
- I'm still baffled and annoyed that there isn't a play/pause button on the steering wheel... BUT THERE IS A BUTTON THAT DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
- Similar to above, no clock on the instrument panel. I've adjusted to it but still just really irks me.
- Yes, still no album art over bluetooth. It's whatever to me by this point but still worth mentioning.
- The issues with sending texts is still ongoing. This seems to be entirely me, or my phone (Nokia XR20) as I've seen no one else here mention anything about it ever.
- Android Auto(motive) still has absolutely no idea what to do with MMS messages and I don't even bother trying to play or reply to group chats.
- Recently, and intermittently, incoming calls don't go through the car, and I have to pick up my phone, answer it, and then it goes through Bluetooth media. This is big oof to me. I have fully re-paired my phone once already.
- I challenge everyone else to give the car a voice command to navigate to an address with street number 5555. Dead serious here, go do it.
Updates to the good stuff, and comments on things that have been solved
- My TCAM issues were never debilitating, but they seem to have completely disappeared over the past few updates.
- They enhanced the charging curve, and I've only fast charged a couple of times since the update. It's not blazing fast but much easier to take advantage of our 30mins free charging.
- I've gotten used to the 1PD, it's fine.
- We have plenty of in-car entertainment options now.... I watched an hour of Top Gun: Maverick on Epix while stopping to charge twice during my Christmas commute. It worked fine and the screen serves well. That's it though, I haven't touched any of the games or YouTube yet.
- Customer service at Columbus during my first maintenance last week was much, much better than my experience ordering and taking delivery at Detroit. They were genuinely happy to have it and remarked that it was the first one they'd seen driven so much, despite seeing 40+ per month from as far away as St. Louis since opening in October. They even comped me an alignment check which I was perfectly willing to pay for.
- Alright, I downright love how the car is balanced and handles. It floats like a 5000 pound feather. I will say, I have done some spirited driving, and if you plan on doing a lot... Get the performance pack. Not for the reason you're thinking of. It really needs those bigger brakes. The car luckily doesn't push my limits, but you can easily go right off the road taking a twisty too fast downhill. I know because I almost did. I was doing 60, heh... The only time I've had this issue.
- I have a second set of wheels with winter tires, and change them myself. Despite that and also our absolutely disastrous roads, the alignment was still in spec and the suspension looks great.
- The new range assistant app is GREAT! I leave the instrument panel on standard so I don't have to worry about going too far, but I typically was getting numbers indicating 20-30 miles more than EPA. The new app generally concurs with this (I do a lot of city driving, probably around 70%).
- Speaking of the range, anyone owner can tell you that the efficiency is much better than anyone expected. At the start of this year, I began including my efficiency number in my Uber log when I get home. Nothing fancy, just the number and some basic calculations. As of tonight, I have 5628.2 miles and an average efficiency of 27.29kw/100mi. It should drop through the summer - I've been getting between 22 and 25 the past month. The highest was 35.1 over the course of 47.8 miles. I remember quitting early that night because the weather was getting real bad - freezing rain.
- The worst nights, as I recall, were very cold but also wet. Just the heater isn't too bad, but I blame the dehumidifier for the uptick in consumption. Which is fine because it's a genius feature that I don't think I can live without now. Note that I always precondition with a timer if the weather is below 50F or above 80F. You would be surprised how much of a difference it makes, especially if you aren't going far. If it's cold, preconditioning and the heated seats/wheel are all I need until it gets under 40F.
- After figuring out Pilot Assist and what it is good at (and what it is not) I basically only use it on the highway for long-ish drives. This is not a knock against it, the system is great and seems to improve just a bit every time they try to update it. Phantom braking does exist but is not at all problematic. It has stopped freaking out when lanes split or you veer toward a ramp. This system was meant to encourage and reward good driving behavior by ASSISTING the PILOT. Do not abuse it.
- An update to my comment about the backseat. I had my 6'2" father test out the front AND rear passenger after I put the front seat in a reasonable position. He had no issues and has even ridden back there for a while with no complaint.
- The H&K sound system is fine for me. I'm a big metalhead so I don't need window shattering bass. A bit of work on the equalizer and it competes with the surround in my living room. The option to focus the sound came in handy when I wanted to listen to music but my niece wanted to watch cartoons during our family trip.
- The upholstery, is, in fact, very easy to clean. I also got the Tuxmats which are freakin' awesome. Seeing those was another first for the Columbus space and they really liked them, too.
I need to get to bed soon, so I'll check out the comments in the morning.

A month ago I told my guy friend (over DM) whom I've know for 3 months that I like him, he said he is too busy with work to focus on dating or anything else. Whether this is a nice way of saying "I'm not into you" or the truth, I respected that and I told him I needed space. I also deactivated instagram right after because seeing his name on "viewed your story" list hurt me and reminded me of how I can't have him. On the rare occasions where a mutual friend organized hanging out, I either was busy or had something else planned that day. I now feel like I accept that we're not gonna be together romantically but I kind of miss the connection we had as friends. I don't think it is classy or smart of me to text him saying "let's be friends again". . I'm kind of sad that there's a big chance I won't see him again unless its by chance as I highly doubt he will want to see me or be around me anymore.... Should I just forget about his existence completely and move on?

Couple weeks back I had some time to kill out in PoCo and took my pup to the Shaughnessy Dog Park. It's fantastic; large, woodsy, lots of water for dogs to drink, seats for humans. Just really nice.
I live in Vancouver, however, and it's a bit of a drive just for a dog park. The ones near me - Olympic Village, Andy Livingstone, Broadway&St George - are basically just dirt lots.
Are there some hidden gems around Vancouver I should know about? I do need a fenced area because my dog will chase things like skateboarders, but she's pretty good if those kind of distractions can't be seen/heard from the park. (for reference, at in-laws in the woods and the dog beach near Vanier she can be off leash, at the city dog parks, probably not.)

House of color is interesting because they just put you in one of four seasons and then drape you in all the colors of you season and help you rate them. The palette they give you has small pieces of drape cloth in all the colors of your season and they remind you that it's not about always getting clothes that match perfectly but finding ones that either harmonize with the rest or are between two shaded within your palette. (Ignore my bad spelling please) I’m going to start this by saying it’s probably not appropriate for me to be on this app given my age,but I don’t really care. I don’t know how to start this except by saying I’m Absolutely discussed and I’m about to throw up and I’ve been crying)Ever since my school let off for summer break it seems like everyone is like more sexually active or something. I went to shower sometime ago and I didn’t have a hair brush so naturally, I looked for one in the bathroom and I was about to use my sister hair brush and dried cvm was in the middle of it. Omfg I ran out of that bathroom so quickly I kid you not and looked forever to find a different one, and a couple days later I see another hair brush with EVEN MORE DRIED CVM ON IT. like that is fucking disgusting.she could at least clean her brushes? But when I went to take a shower that same day THE ENTIRE SHOWER SMELT LIKE CVM. I was about to break down istg that is so fucking disgusting. I think sometime around what happed I heard my parents fucking SO DAMN LOUD in the shower. All I was trying to do was ask my dad to fix me food. My girlfriend used to be skinny a few years back. She used to go clubbing, have an active social life and so on. Then she had a notable surgery on her back, decided not to go clubbing or anything anymore, and gained some weight. All of this stuff happened when I didn't know her.
I've been with her nearly a year. She's never been anywhere near overweight, always a healthy weight, just a bit heavier than her very skinny past. She mentioned how she wants to lose weight once or twice, and in the last month or so has lost 6kg. For some reason this makes me feel insecure. I fear that she'll start getting hit on even more and start clubbing again. I don't know why this even makes me insecure. She always says she loves me and I have no reason to doubt this. This made me very sensitive to light and it lasted nearly four days. I went into the ER Lions Clinic, which specializes in optical trauma, and they were stumped as to what was going on. It was a nurse friend of mine who put two and two together and told me to mention to them about the patch. Everything made sense after that and I was discharged and wore a patch for a few days until things went back to normal. I just spent nearly 2 hours filling out an application for a dog only to get an email back about 10 minutes after saying “we don’t adopt out of state” because I put down that I would be moving out of state in a few months for work.
I’m so annoyed. I checked their website and there is NOTHING on it that says they don’t adopt out of state. I’m a great dog owner- I’ve moved all over with my past and present dogs, take them on special camping and hiking trips, buy them all kinds of different enrichment toys, make sure I have the best people watching them when I leave, give them all the vet care they need- but no. How dare I move for a job.
I’m just so frustrated. My late dog and current dog were both rescues and I am trying to rescue again. I specifically want a Pomeranian, which I know is tricky to rescue, but I am actively trying to adopt over going to a breeder but man! This is the fourth rescue I’ve been turned away from. Two applications I never heard back from and the other didn’t want to adopt out to me because I have a big dog.
I’m just upset. I wouldn’t have spent two hours of my time writing a detailed report on how I knew it was time to put my last dog down if I knew I was going to be denied that quickly. There are better things I could have done with my time.
It’s just so frustrating. I think I’m going to contact a (reputable) breeder and go that route instead.
Just feeling super bummed. I thought that now, because I have owned two dogs on my own and am a childless millennial who just scored a new job I’d be a great candidate but no.

36F here. I’m going to an out of town wedding in August. This was a fairly fast-planned wedding and the couple just gave me and everyone else all the details and accommodation info. The wedding is going to be at a lovely beach venue near a super nice hotel where they have a block of rooms for their guests.
Our friend group is all coupled up except me and our other friend, A. Well A immediately said to me, upon getting the official wedding details/booking info, “Sweet, you and I can share a room.” I love A, but I am honestly not interested in sharing a room with her. It is truly nothing personal. There are only a handful of people I would ever want to share a room with, and these are friends from childhood, who are like sisters to me. I also have some other long term friends I am super comfortable traveling with but I do not feel quite the same about A. A and I have been friends for about 3 years.
I guess I feel like at 36 years old, we are a bit past that phase of bunking up just for the sake of it. I do that enough with my friends that I mentioned above when we travel. We’ve been doing that for years and we know each other so well but I am not trying to get to know someone else’s hotel habits at this age. Even if we have separate beds, I truly just want my own space to relax and get ready in.
Plus, I recently got a big promotion at work and am making really good money that I can actually afford a nice hotel weekend on. A I think does fine money wise but I know she wants to share a room to cut down on costs, which I totally understand, yet I do not feel like that is my problem or business to worry about. Although it does make me feel immediately guilty as there is no one else she would be able to share with. Hi y’all. I just wanna say if you’ve been sober for 5 seconds, 5 minutes, 5 days, 5 months, 5 years…i’m proud of you. Every single milestone is worth celebrating even if you celebrate the same one 100 times over again. I know I have.
With that being said, I am currently in the process of opening my very own Zero Proof bar.
Now, I know things like this exist but I want my bar to be an intentional space for people in recovery. I want it to embody, at least for me, what I miss about going to a bar (besides the booze…), which is being around people that feel like family, walking in and everyone knowing my name, feeling like I can unwind after a hard day, celebrate accomplishments and milestones, and just having somewhere that I can either have fun or be supported.
I’m tired of missing out on social gatherings because I don’t want to be surrounded by drunks or temptation. I’m tired of the only options for me to have a drink without feeling like an outcast being a soda water or a juice, sugar filled mocktail or just one NA beer. I’d like to create high quality, healthy drinks that emulate the feeling of having a drink without the repercussions.
I’d like my space to also serve as a community space for local meetings, harm reduction access, educational services, etc etc.
My goal is not to convince people that drink to stop. My goal is to create a space for the people who already have or are trying to. I want this space to be for you.
How would you feel if a place like this existed in your town? Do you think this would help you or hinder you in your journey? Is this something you’d like to see or have any suggestions on how to better serve people trying to get sober. I know NA drinks can be triggering to some.
Basically, im tired of having to try and fit into a scene i no longer feel comfortable in and the alternative shouldn’t be FOMO or coffee shops only.

There’s no question that “fascism” and “fascist” are incredibly loaded terms that are thrown around way too much and often by those who have no idea what they actually mean.
It’s important to have calm, civil discussions and name-calling doesn’t help that. I understand that political polarization is horrible these days and we all want to tone down the anger, vitriol and hyperbole. But what about when it's not hyperbole?
Name-calling and baseless accusations shouldn’t be happening. But is there a point at which we need to recognize and identify something like fascism as it's happening, even though it’s been misused as a loaded attack line in the past?
To many familiar with it as a historical ideology and movement, the modern Republican Party and overall right-wing political movement in America is looking frighteningly familiar to the established, textbook definitions of fascism.
The parallels are clear. It seems to me that many consider the fascism label as hyperbolic or dismiss it is because most people have no idea what fascism actually entails.
The most common view of fascism seems to be as a synonym for "authoritarian" or as a form of vague, general oppression. While fascist movements and regimes are largely authoritarian, most authoritarian movements/regimes are not fascist. Fascism is a specific worldview consisting of several core tenets and attributes -- authoritarianism is just one of those.
Fascism involves the following core elements coming together (sources linked at the bottom):
That's not to say that the right's embrace of fascism is a deliberate, conscious thing. They'd never identify as fascists and it's not like they studied fascism and are purposefully emulating it.
It seems more that fascism’s tenets and worldview tend to become popular and appealing to people when a nation is faced with a certain set of conditions. Right now, it appears as if that is happening here.

- Deep nationalism and "othering" of designated out-groups: The country's inherent greatness stems from its traditional or "original" culture and, values and hierarchy. The nation is the greatest on Earth and there are strict definitions on who are true members of that nation. Immigration dilutes the nation's culture and (therefore) its greatness.
- There are clearly defined in-groups (those who align with the nation's traditional "true"’ national culture and beliefs, along with fascists' political beliefs) and out-groups (those of different cultures, beliefs and values).
- Pre-occupation with a battle against out-groups depicted as posing an existential, apocalyptic threat to the nation and its society: A key mobilizer for fascists is a righteous battle against out-groups depicted as viciously wanting to destroy the nation and all that is held dear. Since the stakes of this battle are set so high, nearly every action, tactic or approach can be justified, tolerated and excused in efforts to defeat this enemy and keep them from power. Some common out-groups for fascists:
- Communists and communism: Always identified by fascists as one of these enemies – and the Communist label is often given indiscriminately to the wider progressive movement and those who disagree with the fascists.
- People expressing/supporting non-traditional gender identity and sexuality
- Intellectuals and academic experts
- Certain religions and ethnic groups
- Obsession with strength, disdain for weakness and view of most everything as a zero-sum game (ie: if one side gains something, then another side loses something): For fascists, power and righteousness stem from strength (and accompanying violence, if need be). Strength is needed to restore the proper state of society and stamp out any impediments to this essential work.
- Tolerance of others, openness/embrace of differences/multiculturalism or overtly intellectual/nuanced beliefs and actions are seen as weakness. Progressivism is seen as weakness personified.
