Hello! I’m sorry this is so long I’m trying to organize my thoughts :’)
I (22, with my bf 21) am from New York State and desperately want to find a place that will feel like home to me. Where I live is very conservative and republican, and I could not be further from that. For example I love dressing in an “alternative” way and dying my hair, etc. but here I can’t go to the store or walk down the street without feeling stared at/judged, or having strangers straight up insult me. I just wanna be somewhere I can look how I want and not be openly judged/openly insulted, or wonder if I will run into hateful ppl in public, and could find events and friends that are like minded. The worst part is this area is very closed minded (racist and very homophobic) which disgusts me. The only reason we’re still here is because it’s “home” so it’s very easy, and it’s a low COL bc it’s the middle of nowhere.
I know of course cities are where you’re gonna find diversity but I would just love any input on if anyone knows any cities or even smaller towns that have more young people/possibly even an alt scene, is not closed minded/racist/homophobic etc., and also has a COL where you can like reasonably live there. Rent wise like around $1500 a month? (long shot I’m sure I know). Another thing that worries me is safety, being from a small town I get nervous ab violence, and nervous on public transit since I didn’t have access to it growing up so I’m not used to it.
Of course I think of big cities like New York, Chicago, Seattle when looking for young and open minded areas, but I feel that just isn’t possible for me because of the price unfortunately. And the safety thing worries me.
I wouldn’t be moving anytime soon since I’m still working on a career at the moment and don’t have the money, but I honestly just wanna find an area i like then work towards my career after I figure out where I’d like to be someday. We plan on moving into trade jobs so should be making more money, but I would still love to know if there’s any areas like what I’m looking for so we don’t have to give 95% of our future paychecks to rent/bills lol. If it helps, I’ve lived in Buffalo and Rochester. Rochester is fine but kinda boring but that’s possibly bc it’s so close to home for me. Buff was ok I just didn’t make any friends lol and again I think just too close to home and maybe I just want a change from NY. so if anyone is familiar with those cities and has similar recommendations I’m open :’) I also loveee outdoorsy stuff like hiking and camping so anything like that or near watebeaches would be cool too. Stats: 17m, 200lbs, 5’10, 2 years lifting experience, ~16-18% bf, eating, sleep, and water in check. Diet looks like 6 eggs, 2-3 cups of milk, ~150g protein, lots of fish, stuff like that (not the best though as I have seed oils and shitty foods). Historically been a power builder but been taking a stronger interest in bodybuilding.
Recovery management is great I don’t really get incredibly sore nor fatigued in my next workouts, detrains weeks after every 4-6 weeks.
So it’s possible I tore a ligament in tore knee, I still need MRIs to prove it but it appears I won’t be squatting for a while. I’ve been working out for 6 days a week on the Kong program on boost camp with an extra day hitting chest. Im also doing NO with wide grip low rows and ab rollouts. I want to really maximize my upper body gains as much as I can and I recognize my training recovery is very strong, as I don’t get incredible sore nor has my progressive overload ever really been effected.
What I want to see is if it’s possible to hit upper near 5-6 days a week. I was thinking hitting
Monday - Shoulders Tuesday - Back Thursday - Chest Friday - Arms Saturday - Chest & Back Sunday - Arms & possibly shoulders again
I know it’s too much but is it possible? Would it be sustainable (with detrain weeks), any thoughts or modifications? (Just to note I’m not scared to mess up my proportions as my legs are already fairly big)

I'm planning a road trip across SD, WY and MT then up through Alberta, back across Canada to Thunder Bay, and down through MN and MI. I lve never done a trip this long and have always stayed in hotels, but I want to look at camping as an option because the hotels came out to like $3500 even doing my best to stay cheap as possible. What do I need to get and what do I need to know? Saving space is super important. I have a relatively small car, so space efficiency is key. Thanks

What I have been doing:

I was dumped a month ago from a 4 year relationship. The process was quick. I think. The first thing I did was deleting all the memories, from cameras, phones, to social medias.
3rd day after the b/u, I got a gym membership. I do body weight workouts so 3 days workout at home and 4 days workout in the gym for biceps and abs. The gym feels nice. Everyone here has the same goal: To look better and be healthier.
I seeked therapy. This helped tremendously. Therapist helped me look at things in new angles. quite refreshing.
I went back to my old hobbies: hiking 14ers on the weekends, painting, etc.
I reached out to an old friend and I also get on Bumble BFF to find new friends, talk to some. play PC games with some.
I joined many meetup groups in town. I'm an introvert so I joined groups like painting, tech talks since I work in IT, etc.
I went out dating again. It felt weird kissing someone else than her for the last 4 years... But also felt nice.
I madeup a project where I go out and approach cute girls (once a day) to get used to rejections. I journal down the process. It feels nice facing your fear.
On top of that, I just got a new job that will increase my salary significantly. That also helps. But I have always been passionate about my career. So that helps as well.
Sometimes I do find myself on tiktok for hours. It felt comforting. I recently set a timer to only use tiktok an hour a day.

My feelings the last 4 weeks:

First week was terrible. I wanted to move on but she kept contacting me. said she missed me. Finally she stopped calling. At first it was rough. I spent time with friends and family hoping it could help. It did. But sometimes, while we were all laughing and having a good time. All the sudden, I felt this heavy weight on my chest, and everything suddenly turned black and white. and It hit me. "this is real. It really happened. We're really over..." - It is kind of insteresting how that feeling came and went. But this stopped after week 3
The flashed back memory happens every day. It was painful at first, but now I feel calm when it appears again. It is just a memory. It's like "oh remember that camping trip awhile back..."
I used to miss sleep every day. I could only do 4-5 hours per night. The wakeup was painful. It affected my workouts. But now, the sleep slowly gets better. waking up felt more calm.
We went everywhere together so It was hard and suffocating to go anywhere in town because they all brought back memories. But now, I gotta remember that I'm going to these places again for myself. not for her. I went to the same spots we hiked before. I felt something there. maybe a bit of sadness. But very minimal. the mountain, the bird chirping, and the sound of water running from all the snow melting, very peaceful and comforting. That helps.

From my Therapist:

Do breathing exercise in the morning when first wakeup
don't try to go to sleep again. Let sleep become a natural thing.
Don’t worry about the past. If you force yourself, if you try too hard to not think about the past, it's not good. Let things happen naturally.
When something is really painful, it doesn’t mean you need to escape, you just let it happen and accept it.
When negative thoughts come, learn to accept it, let it come in, but convert it to something more positive.
Things take times and practices many times to see change. Can't expect things to improve quickly.
I operate from what I know. It doesn’t make me bad.
When you realize what youre doing is not what you want to do, you become better version of yourself.
Learn how to validate ourselves. How to affirm ourselves. Learn to love ourselves. Once this is done, you don't have to get validation from someone else. And you can start dating again.
Rethink what rejection really is. It's simply that we don't matchup with others. It's just not a match. Not everyone is compatible.

My thoughts:

delete all photos of her immediately. This is very important. I did right after the breakup. I did that because I got dumped and I felt like a loser holding on someone who really kicked you off the curbs. We need to respect ourselves more.
Having time alone, I realized that I have quit all my hobbies, friends, and fun things I used to do before I met her. This is the reason why the breakup felt so bad. Because the presence of your partner should only be an extra part of your life. She should not be your main part. This is a great lesson for me.
I also realized why I got dumped. It was my fault. However, if she was patient enough, I would eventually become a better person. So I can say it was both of us. But then again, the breakup changed me so quickly. It really helped me see my personal problems. I treated her the same way my parent treated me. I hate how my parent treated me. But I didn't see I was doing the same thing to her. This is the first step making me a better person.
I feel much more mature now. In a way, I think I'm thankful that I got this breakup. my relationship with my family felt calmer now. I also am aware of the moment when I start getting angry. I analyzed the triggers. It helps me to be more calm.
Also, I now realized she has many red flags that I ignored. She has never been a good fit for me. I'm glad we're done.
Overall, I think that breakups happend to teach us lessons. Maybe that's why it is hard to find soulmates when we were young. Because we weren't complete.

I mean, if you like option one you probably are but with this third option you're just either super open about it or so deep in the closet you're paying rent in Narnia.
This is the camp of Baki and Kengan Ashura and while not technically a martial arts manga, for the purposes of this rant Record of Ragnarok will be here.
This trio is what I'm talking about as it spawned a trope of minor annoyance which sort of ranges from Kengan being fine/actually rather good with it to Baki having it be mostly fine to Record od Ragnarok which shits the bed.
By this I mean, "Ancient sumo". If you're in the third camp then you know of ancient sumo. Nowadays sumo is known for big fat men charging at one another and trying to throw them out a ring. There's no kicks, punches, mostly just palm strikes and you've probably been made aware of this through stuff like Street Fighter, Tekken or maybe even Kumite.
Ancient sumo on the other hand allowed all kinds of shit as it was a no-holds barred deathmatch. It's even said that the first ever sumo match ended with a kick.
The result of sumo perceived limits and ancient sumo relative lack of them has sort of spawned this idea of mockery. Sumo is sometimes the first on the job when it comes to martial arts and sumo fighters are often seen as fools or have their MA be shown as ineffective.
And adding onto another layer that sumo fights don't last all that long and grapples/throws aren't always super appealing to draw, it seems that this trio have gravitated to this "ancient sumo" almost as a way of subverting sumo perceived weaknesses and going, "Hey no Ancient sumo let ya kick! Did ya know that?"
With Kengan Ashura, Kiozan Takeru represents ancient sumo in a very interesting way. Kiozan believes Competitive sumo is "incomplete" and stupid and as a result goes back to ancient sumo style of using more moves including kicks which are strong enough to make the most durable fighters black out.
However, he's taken apart by his opponent Sekibyashi Jun as the fight goes on and he slowly loses stamina. Instead of this fight being used to make a mockery of Sumo, it's moreso against people who mock sumo/bash it for its perceived weaknesses without having faith in the art itself. As Sekibyashi points out, Kiozan's version of "true" sumo is basically just some dollar-store MMA and he's not actually built to handle it. And what's Kiozan gonna do. Lose weight?
I like this fight as an example because it's not only one of my favorite fights, but also because it unironically goes into my next point about Raiden Tameemon from Record of Ragnarok.
Now I know I skipped over Baki and that's because I have the least experience with it and imo it doesn't flow as well with my points as to me it's just another example of "did you know ancient sumo allows kicks?".
Now I won't pretend to be an arbiter of "true sumo" or not and I am not a martial arts master. Most of my sumo knowledge comes from online, some interviews and blogs here or there, looking at sumo history/the invention of it Yada Yada, but regardless I want to give some backdrop on Record of Ragnarok or RoR for a moment.
Basically Record of Ragnarok is a 13v13 tournament where every round one human from history and one God from mythology step forward to fight one another.
In round 5, Raiden Tameemon fought Shiva the Destroyer. Why does this matter? Well, Raiden Tameemon is known for being a famous Sumo Wrestler, considered to be among the best. The funny thing is that for all its worth, Raiden in RoR kinda doesn't come across as a sumo Wrestler.
Now I've talked previously about ancient sumo and its supposed subversion of sumo as its viewed in pop culture, but it kind of gets to the point where instead of subverting sumo to showcase its strength, it ends up mutating into something unlike sumo. Ignoring how around Raiden's time, sumo was getting more structured so the more wild style of ancient sumo seems a bit weird, Raiden honestly seems more like a fucking pro wrestler.
Body type wise he's giant with twelve pack abs broad shoulders and no hints of body fat (ik sumo wrestlers are muscular like their bodies are insane but the point is that his body type is more generic buff dude) and his first move is... a drop kick. Ok sure thats fine but, Raiden never charges, he only hrabs Shiva once for a headbutt, he only does one or two palm strikes. One of his named attacks is a lariat
For all intents and purposes, Raiden feels more like a pro wrestler. Now I might be getting it wrong and hey, maybe this is exactly how 18th-19th century sumo fought and im fucking stupid, but I just find it funny how with the whole, "Hey you know ancient sumo had kicks?" Trope I just named, it escalates to the point where sumo strength is emphasized... with a style that barely resembles sumo. It feels less like Raiden is a sumo wrestler from a different time period and more like he's a pro wrestler who occasionally throws out a palm strike.
It's like if in response to the trope of, "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight", all of your characters who you claim to be super skilled knife fighters just shot their opponents. Imagine if Sasaki Kojiro pulled up in Record of ragnarok, dropped his swords and blasted his foe with a shotgun?

Hi, für das Trainingscamp der TIgers* aus Köln sind noch drei Plätze frei. TINAQ* Menschen, die Interesse haben können sich gerne noch anmelden. Die Unterbringung ist bei lilabunt und das Training auf dem Platz des sc-enzen-duerscheven. Alle TINAQ* Menschen sind herzlich eingeladen, egal wo ihr herkommt, welches Alter, Geschlecht oder Leistungsstand. Neben den 4 Trainingseinheiten wird es viel Raum zum austauschen, chillen und spielen geben. Durch die Förderung sind die Beiträge sehr niedrig.

Extracurriculars: - Captain of school sports team, #1 player. Regionals qualifier for another school sport

• President of math club, CO-VP of science Olympiad: pretty self explanatory. Chief engineer of aerospace club as well.

Smaller: 1 month internship at local biotech lab: cool stuff - will look for more enviro sci or earth sci stuff this summer.
Hooks: ROTC isn’t really a hook but I heard it can help. I was offered the NROTC ISR scholarship, and I’m applying for the AFROTC as well.
LOR: I think they’re going to be pretty good but I don’t think anyone can accurately chance their own LORs.
List: I’m trying to get recruited to D3 schools, but injury took me out of the game for a while. Mainly down to MIT and Caltech. Problem is that I’m slightly out of MIT’s recruiting range now, but I can do ROTC for MIT. Should I do MIT early with ROTC and give up Caltech recruiting (which, granted, isn’t that big of a boost), or go with Caltech? Also need recs for schools that have decent ROTC programs. My top 5 are MIT, Stanford, Harvard, and then idk the last 2.
Chance me for T10s - if I don’t get in, I’m happy with going to the military academies anyways.
