Hi Minimalists,
After the summer I'll be headed into my junior year of an American University. I've been a minimalist since my freshman or sophomore year of high school so I've been at this for a while. In my years of college so far I've lived in a dorm, an apartment, and at home on a gap semester so I can confidently give others advice. Whether you're starting out in minimalism or wanting to deepen your practice, this is for you. College is a great time to start minimalism because if you're like me, you're moving around a lot.
My University is a 3 hour drive from my house so luckily I was able to use a car to move in and out but I didn't have a car to use which turned out to help my minimalism as it resulted in smaller shopping trips. If I were flying in, it would be a different story and I would have to pack less but I had some room.
Clothing - Seasonal clothing: My college town has all four seasons so layering was my friend. Summers and spring I wore pants and shorts with a tank top. I have one pair of denim shorts and pants because really, who needs more? They last many wears and a basic blue or black denim can go with anything. In the fall and winter, I layered the exact same outfits with a jacket. I have a few different jackets which I'm trying to pair down. I have a huge snow jacket which I hate having because it takes up so much space. I was about to get rid of it but we had the craziest winter this past January and February so I'm glad I kept it. Sometimes you don't want to keep things but it will serve its purpose. If it doesn't, get rid of it. When I get clothes, I like to get new clothes, I like for them to have multiple purposes but snow jackets are very specific, however, it's better to be comfortable. Especially if you're walking everywhere which I was doing.
- Underwear: While I was at my apartment this past spring semester, I realized I never used all my underwear and socks in a week (I do laundry once a week). Since I've moved home for the summer, I put some of each away in a box and used what I had. If I needed more I'd grab some but I think I've figured out the perfect number which is different for everyone. I can't really comment on bras even tho I am a girl but I don't really wear them or if I do, it's a yoga bra and I'll wear it as my shirt.
- Shoes: If you live somewhere snowy and have a pair of hiking shoes that are water-resistant, they work in snow. I was told they wouldn't work so I bought a pair of Timberlands and barely wore them and wasted $150 on them. Recently, I bought a pair of Chacos chelsea boots. I got the black color so I could wear them to work and they'd look more professional. However, black absorbs heat so my feet always get warm. Once these have run their time I'll get a brown color. I have one pair of tennis shoes that I only wear over summer when I work at summer camps. I'm not a fan of tennis shoes but if you go to the gym or run then have one pair and only get another once they are worn out. I have two pairs of hiking sandals which I can also wear with socks in the chillier weather but I'd like to pair them down to one.
- "Maybes": You know these clothes, the ones you just cannot seem to donate but don't know why you're keeping onto them (or you do). What I've found is I'll get a bag and put my maybes in those and put them out of sight for a few weeks. If I don't miss them, I have my answer.
- "Maybes" pt. 2: If you move home during the summers and/or winters, I highly suggest keeping some maybes at home. When you come back, you'll most likely be able to donate it all.
- Hangers: Only bring with you how many hangers you currently need plus maybe one or two more if you want to be nice to yourself. Once you run out, you cannot buy any more clothes.
- 1 in 2 out: This has been my philosophy with clothes for quite some time now because clothes are the biggest struggle of mine when it comes to minimalism. Now, whenever I buy an item of clothing, it has to be able to replace at least two items I already have or be something I need but don't have yet (like work clothes).
Bedroom - Linen: You only need one pair of sheets, I promise.
- Desk: I work my best when my desk if clean so all I keep on there is a mason jar with a few pens, my laptop, and a fake plant (I don't like to move around a bunch with real plants and not every place I'm in has a window with a lot of sunlight). I take all my notes digitally so I don't have to worry about physical clutter. I do that with books/textbooks as well. Unless I need to get a physical copy, I always purchase it as an online book.
Bathroom - Towels: One towel is all you need, I promise.
- Toiletries: Scaling down your bathroom routine is a must. I haven't worn makeup since I've become a minimalist and it works for me and I enjoy it but if makeup is a must for you, really think about each step and if you can cut out any. Also, don't keep so many refills on hand, just go buy another when you need it, it really helps with clutter. A few things I have refills on hand. Like my deodorant comes in packs of two and my razor comes with multiple head replacements.
- Shower: I've decided I'm going to get rid of my bath mat next semester. Why do I need one if I can just dry off in the tub/shower? Really think about what you actually need.
- Toothbrush: This is something I've just decided to do. I have an electric toothbrush that I've used for years but I'm going to move back to a good old fashioned manual one. The replaceable toothbrush heads are like $15 a piece! Plus, it's bulkier and I always have to keep a normal one on hand when I take a trip.
Kitchen My roommate and I split the cupboards and drawers but I didn't use half of mine!
- Pots & pans: Get a good cast iron pan and pot and you'll never need anything else (just be sure you season them right). Maybe get another saucepan if your recipes are more complex but scale down on the complex recipes! (See my next point)
- Recipes: I love to cook but sometimes the recipe has 10 spices, 8 different veggies, and 10 different topping choices. I'm vegan so that makes some things easier but not much. You can edit recipes. It may take some trial and error but spice it to your liking. You're not going to taste a 1/4 tsp of cumin, I promise. Also, I don't like bell peppers so if a recipe has that, I get rid of it. Finding simpler recipes has really helped my kitchen stay minimal.
- Food: This is something I'm still trying to work on. I didn't cook much in my dorm but this past semester I didn't have a meal plan and I had a kitchen. I was spending anywhere from $200-400 a month on groceries and unfortunately I left a lot of food to go to waste. MAKE A MEAL PLAN. I love notion and made a recipe book with my favorite recipes. This has helped immensely with food waste. Also, don't get that one super specific thing for one recipe that you're only going to make once. Either skip the recipe or find a substitute. I'll use this example which doesn't apply to me but it's a good example. I love tahini and use it in a lot of things. I can go through a jar of it in 2 months. Others however may never use it but one recipe calls for it. Use another nut butter instead or skip the recipe. Or find more to use it in instead of letting it sit in your fridge and just throwing it out when you move.
- Plates, utensils, etc.: Do you really need more than 2 plates/bowls/cups? If you have guests, get compostable reusable plates or BYOP. I had 3 of everything but rarely used the 3rd so when I go back, I'm only taking 2 of everything. I wash my dishes as soon as I'm done (or as I go) so it hasn't been a problem for me. Same goes with knives. Do you really need a whole knife block? Just get 1 or 2 quality knives and you'll never need another again.
- Appliances: Be careful when it comes to appliances because they take up a lot of space when moving. If you drink coffee a lot, get coffee appliances. For me, I love tea so I have a kettle to boil water. I recently got a high speed blender to use as a blender and a food processor and I've loved it. I also recently got an air fryer as a gift. I haven't used it yet but I'm also scared to start haha. I just need to do it once and then I'll be familiar with it. However, if I can use that to replace having to heat up the oven each time, I'll take it. Don't get a toaster oven. You can heat up your bread on a pan on the stove just perfectly and it saves space.
- Random shit: We all love those fancy shaped bottles and the cool fridge organizers. I had a fancy bottle last semester. Didn't use it once so it is not coming back with me next semester. Those clear plastic fridge organizers are expensiveeee. Do you really need them? Minimalism isn't about having the best organization, it's about being mindful with your stuff. Maybe you find value in those organizers, go for it! But for me personally, they wouldn't add any value to me as I can already organize my fridge pretty well. However, I just bought one of those rotating organizers because the corner of one of my cabinets was getting crowded with spices and oils.
Cleaning - Find a good multi-purpose cleaner and it will be a lifesaver!
- Dryer balls are your best friend.
- Target's brand Ever Spring has a concentrated laundry detergent and the bottle takes up almost no room and one squirt gets the job done. It's been a lifesaver.
- Just get a broom. A vacuum takes up a lot of space and is heavy.
Living Room - Ngl, I never touched my living room once. I spent no time there. My roommate had some things but if you're not going to hang out there much, don't keep anything in there.
Hope I covered most things and it wasn't too confusing. If you have any other questions, I'd love to answer. If you want links to anything I mentioned please let me know!

2023.06.02 14:27 Valuable-Count-2016 NVIDIA's Jensen Huang: Rise of AI! 9 Major Innovations Summarized COMPUTEX Speech
| Entering a New Era of Computing There always comes a time when a misplaced semicolon sends you spiraling into the dilemma of "failed compilation." However, in Jensen Huang's vision, such occurrences will be a thing of the past. During his keynote speech at the Taiwan Computex forum, he stated that all these will be handled by Generative AI, ushering in a new era of computing where "everyone is a computer engineer." He cautioned that traditional tech industries might not keep pace with the advances in AI. Huang said: "We've reached the tipping point of the new era of computation. AI technology has significantly lowered the entry barrier for people to get into computer programming. Now, AI allows individuals to create programs simply by entering commands. The integration of accelerated computation and generative AI represents a fundamental reinvention, reducing the manual labor required to create software and poised to revolutionize the world of programming." - GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Gaming GPU
Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4060 Ti gaming GPU is now in full-scale production, being mass-produced with partners in Taiwan. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPU will bring unprecedented experiences to gamers. This serves as a reminder that the power of technology lies not only in its functionality but also in how it enriches our lives. Gaming is not just a form of entertainment but also an art form. With a powerful GPU, we can experience more realistic graphics and smoother gaming experiences, as if entering another world. - Nvidia Avatar Cloud Engine
Jensen Huang announced the Nvidia Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) for Games, which provides pre-trained AI models to game developers, enabling NPC characters to become more personality-driven through AI language interaction. This innovation, in my eyes, is not only a technical breakthrough but also a new milestone in social interaction. Through this, we can see how AI is further infiltrating our daily lives and might even change the way we interact with the world. - Grace Hopper & DGX GH200
Nvidia's GH200 Grace Hopper is now in full-scale production. This superchip elevates 4 PetaFLOPS TE, connects 72 Arm CPUs via chip-to-chip links, and encompasses 96GB HBM3 and 576 GPU memory. Huang described it as the world's first accelerated computation processor, possessing massive memory. This is a computer, not just a chip, designed for highly reliable data center applications. If the memory of Grace Hopper isn't enough, Nvidia has a solution — the DGX GH200. It begins by connecting eight Grace Hoppers with three NVLLINK switches, then linking these Pods at a speed of 900GB. Finally, 32 units are connected together, with another layer of switches added, totaling 256 Grace Hopper chips. The resulting ExaFLOPS converter engine, with its 144TB of GPU memory, operates as a colossal GPU. Google Cloud, Meta, and Microsoft will be among the first companies to acquire the DGX GH200 for functionality research. submitted by Valuable-Count-2016 to Computex [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 10:36 ohaaa Struggling to "switch" to Wayland as a beginner
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to switch my Arch Linux (GNOME) to Wayland on an existing installation using x11. However following the ArchWiki didn't solve my problem as echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE still returns x11.
My steps so far: I started here (
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/wayland), learning that my GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070) running proprietary drivers (nvidia 530.41.03-15) is supported, but in order to use Wayland in GDM, I need to enable the Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) manually (found here
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#DRM_kernel_mode_setting) by adding the kernel parameter nvidia_drm.modeset=1.
I tried that by adding a new .conf to /etc/modprobe.d/enable-DRM-for-wayland.conf including just options nvidia_drm.modeset=1 as
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters suggests so (?) and I already have another .conf file for my keyboard that works fine.
I ran sudo mkinitcpio -P and added the pacman hook to make sure things will be updated automatically in the future by creating /etc/pacman.d/hooks/nvidia.hook and adding the following as suggested here (
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#pacman_hook).
[Trigger] Operation=Install Operation=Upgrade Operation=Remove Type=Package Target=nvidia Target=linux # Change the linux part above and in the Exec line if a different kernel is used [Action] Description=Update NVIDIA module in initcpio Depends=mkinitcpio When=PostTransaction NeedsTargets Exec=/bin/sh -c 'while read -r trg; do case $trg in linux) exit 0; esac; done; /usbin/mkinitcpio -P'
Unfortunately, after rebooting I can only decide between GNOME and GNOME Classic at log in and echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE still returns x11.
I hope I have provided enough info about my problem so that someone can point out where I took a wrong turn...
Any suggestions for a Linux beginner will be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.02 06:45 ac2334 Epic “Does It Run” Thread
My goal - to get every game from my expansive library to run. Going to post my findings to this thread as I make discoveries.
About me - a savvy tinkerer who has many years of computing and modding experience.
I will be updating this thread frequently and invite others to add what has worked for them as well as new games I haven’t gotten to yet.
Dissatisfied with protondb (although a very useful site), I decided to start a post since I am testing hundreds of games and having many successes. The fixes/guidelines will be shorthand but just ask here and I will reply with additional details.
Note: everything here is done manually and does not rely on Heroic, Lutris, etc. Unless otherwise noted, all games perform perfectly fine and run impressively.
One last note as to what to expect from this thread - all games discussed are games that I purchased myself - I aspire to have my entire gaming collection running on the deck, to include many exotic games that need to be ripped from cds such as Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and Quantum of Solace, Bloodstone and 007 Legends (James Bond games), lesser-known games like Pariah, clever fixes borrowing from the hard work of others (who will be properly credited) for games like The Chronicles of Riddick…absolutely no emulation will be discussed here.
Enjoy!
- PC Building Simulator 2 (Epic): Proton 7.0 RC6 GE-1 + protontricks (xact + registry resolution edits), ESYNC & FSYNC disabled & added as command line arguments to both Steam shortcut and within Epic
- Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun: Proton 7.0 RC6 GE-1 - (fixes cutscenes not playing)
- God of War - GE-8-3, launch options DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%, launch menu: choose 1280x800
- Quantum Break - GE 8-3
- Deus Ex Mankind Divided - GE 8-3 (select prior to install to force Windows version to download)
- Age of Empires II HD - no compatibility, press ctrl + c to exit subscription validation
Working with no need for special proton compatibility layers or tweaks:
(just a few points of mention to those who have trouble with the list below…. 1: I don’t skimp on microSD card quality, I would highly recommend reading reviews and making sure the card you buy is authentic and rated fast enough for the deck. 2. ext4 is advised, certain games will not run at all on ntfs (though some do) 3. I use my deck around the home and this means I am often connected to power when I play, keep that in mind 4. get familiar with the compdata and shadercache folders and use steamdb.info to get the correct steam game ids - often deleting old prefixes by deleting the entire folder for a particular game can resolve issues…you can also use the dev mode feature to delete all proton files from within the settings for a particular steam game)
Working OOTB: standard testing is launching game and playing it for about 5 minutes as I have a lot of games to test :)

2023.06.02 03:23 Jman_139 Dell 2023 G16 4060 i7-13650HX vs Alienware M17 R5 3060 AMD Ryzen™ 7 6800H
| Noble redditors I need your help! (Made an account just for this) A bit of background, I live in Australia and EOFY sales has just started. I've been looking at different gaming laptops and have narrowed my sight on Dell and Alienware as I've heard good thinks about their build quality and their good hinges over other laptops. I am a casual gamer so pushing every little frame out isn't priority to me. I would be content with nice visuals constant 60+ fps in most new AAA games. I would prefer as large a screen as possible (Alienware M18 would be a dream but they didn't put it on sale and a little rich for me) Build quality is also another high priority for me would like to keep for a long time. So it has come down to two laptops with chosen configuration on Dells website which I will link images (I've cut out keyboard/colour config in images to save space cause not important) https://preview.redd.it/psysbeqvbi3b1.jpg?width=1725&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16318172bd43b32b4062eb7341346c32430ff783 https://preview.redd.it/5yzhljqvbi3b1.jpg?width=1705&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84e72c70ffdef5e1b8665d0655c3603e04d77a31 My main question is which one of these options would be best value for money. I know the G16 has more plastics than the Alienware laptops which are full metal, does that make a large impact in longevity. Is the cooling also worse in G16, M17 has an inherent advantage just being a little bigger (so I would assume.) Also I've heard AMD run cooler than the Gen13 intel CPUs too. Although the G16 does have better internals and screen so might seem a bit of an obvious choice but it is still torturing me. I've done lots of different research but just can't find a comprehensive answer. submitted by Jman_139 to GamingLaptops [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 02:02 ArizCaldo GE Microwave/Oven Combo (PT970SR3SS) microwave burned out?
Hi all,
I've been trying troubleshooting my GE Microwave (PT970SR3SS) for the past week and would appreciate some support before we decide to replace the whole setup.
Initial problems: - 2 years ago, the microwave burnt a bag of popcorn while running the popcorn function (never using that again). No problems with subsequent uses. - Last month, the microwave either was either set for too long or ran past the set time and burned a bowl of butter. Microwave had already died before realizing what happened.
Troubleshooting: - Breaker was not tripped - Replaced fuse (did not resolve) - Replaced control board (did not resolve) - Verified continuity on most switches, fuses, and other large parts
The closest I've gotten to powering the microwave were a couple instances where the power randomly came on. I was able to reset the time and run it before it dimmed and died within 3 seconds of starting.
The only part I can see damage on is the magnetron. It has burn marks on areas where there are NO screw contacts and the 2 magnets are slightly fractured. Before I go out and buy one, does the magnetron sound like the culprit?
And too my understanding, the cooling fan thermostat (WB24X10034) is open at room temp, right?
Big thank you in advance to anyone that can lend a few pointers!

Specs: 12600KF and GTX 1070 Recently installed the latest drivers via GeForce and experienced flickering. Manually downloaded drivers (18APR version) and performed a "clean installation" via the custom option. Now displays will wake on restart but no signal is detected. I know getting to safe mode is the next step in remedying the problem but I don't know if that's even possible without integrated graphics. Any help and advice is appreciated!

This will ensure you can easily control all your smart home devices from a single interface. With a little planning, you can create a smart home that's both convenient and secure. 10 Tips for Creating a Smart and Efficient Home Creating a smart and efficient home not only enhances your lifestyle but also helps you save energy and increase convenience. Here are 10 tips to transform your home into a technologically advanced and environmentally friendly haven: Tip 1: Automate Your Lighting for Energy Efficiency and Convenience Enhance energy efficiency and convenience in your smart home by automating your lighting. With smart bulbs or switches, you can effortlessly schedule lights to turn on/off, adjust brightness, and create customized lighting scenes for any occasion. Motion sensors can also detect empty rooms and automatically switch off lights, minimizing energy waste. Take control of your lighting with voice commands or smartphone apps, eliminating the need for manual adjustments. Embrace automated lighting to save energy, simplify daily routines, and set the ideal ambiance in your home. Tip 2: Streamline Your Entertainment System with Smart Controls Transform your entertainment experience by streamlining your entertainment system with smart controls. With smart devices such as smart TVs, streaming devices, and sound systems, you can simplify the way you access and enjoy your favorite shows, movies, and music. Control your entire entertainment setup using a single remote or voice commands through your smart assistant. Seamlessly switch between streaming platforms, adjust volume, and even dim the lights for the perfect movie night ambiance. By integrating your entertainment system with smart controls, you'll eliminate the hassle of multiple remotes and enjoy a more convenient and immersive entertainment experience. Tip 3: Enhance Home Security with Smart Cameras and Alarms Boost the security of your home with the help of smart cameras and alarms. Smart security systems provide a range of features to protect your property and give you peace of mind. Install smart cameras both indoors and outdoors to monitor your home remotely, receive real-time alerts, and access recorded footage from your smartphone. Combine them with motion sensors and doowindow sensors for comprehensive coverage. Integrated alarms can sound off and send notifications in cases of suspicious activity or breaches. With smart security solutions, you'll have advanced tools at your fingertips to deter intruders, keep a watchful eye on your property, and ensure the safety of your loved ones. Tip 4: Simplify Your Daily Routine with Voice-Activated Assistants Make your daily routine more seamless and efficient by integrating voice-activated assistants into your smart home. With popular voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, you can control various aspects of your home using simple voice commands. From setting timers and reminders to checking the weather or news, these assistants are designed to streamline your day-to-day tasks. Adjust your smart thermostats, turn on/off lights, play music, or even order groceries without lifting a finger. Voice-activated assistants bring convenience and hands-free control to your smart home, allowing you to focus on what matters most while effortlessly managing your home environment. Tip 5: Optimize Energy Usage with Smart Thermostats and Climate Control Maximize energy efficiency and comfort in your home by leveraging smart thermostats and climate control systems. These intelligent devices enable precise temperature management, which reduces energy waste and lowers utility bills. With the ability to create schedules, adjust settings remotely, and even learn your preferences over time, smart thermostats optimize heating and cooling based on occupancy and external factors. Some models integrate with weather forecasts and occupancy sensors to fine-tune climate control automatically. Additionally, energy usage monitoring features provide insights into consumption patterns, empowering you to make informed decisions for energy conservation. By optimizing your home's climate control with smart technology, you can achieve a more sustainable and cost-effective living environment. Tip 6: Manage Your Home's Appliances and Devices Remotely Take control of your home's appliances and devices from anywhere with the convenience of remote management. With smart home technology, you can remotely monitor and control various appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, and more. Check the status of your appliances, adjust settings, and receive notifications or alerts right on your smartphone. Forgot to turn off the oven before leaving? No problem. Simply access your smart home app and switch it off remotely. Remote management not only offers peace of mind but also allows you to optimize energy usage, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that your home is running smoothly even when you're away. Tip 7: Create Personalized Scenes and Routines for Different Activities Enhance the ambiance and functionality of your smart home by creating personalized scenes and routines for different activities. 2023.06.01 23:48 stealthopera Cinnamon Swirl Blueberry French Toast Casserole
By request from a few people in
traderjoes. Can be made entirely with stuff you can buy at Trader Joe's, but I definitely recommend their brioche, almond butter, and dried blueberries, because they are top quality and way less expensive than you'd find them elsewhere. It keeps for at least a week, covered, in the fridge, but I've never had it last that long in my house.
Ingredients: - 1 loaf (12 slices) brioche bread, sliced into 1-inch cubes (~6 cups)
- ⅔ cup raw almond butter
- 3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp melted coconut oil
- 4 Tbsp real maple syrup (NOT pancake syrup), divided
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup milk, any kind
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup dried blueberries
- 4 Tbsp (½ stick) butter, chilled, and cut into ~16-20 slices (plus more for greasing casserole dish)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
Directions: - Preheat oven to 300°.
- Spread the brioche cubes on a sheet pan in a single layer, and toast in the oven for 10-15 minutes, stirring half way through, until golden and toasted but not crouton-hard. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
- Add 1” of water to instant pot, and set metal steam rack into the bottom. The top of the steam rack should be above the level of the water.
- Liberally butter the inside of a heat safe, ceramic casserole dish.
- Make the almond butter cinnamon swirl. Whisk together almond butter, cinnamon, coconut oil, and half of the maple syrup (2 tablespoons).
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and the remaining 2 tablespoons of maple syrup.
- Liberally butter the inside of a heat safe, preferably ceramic casserole dish.
- Place half of the bread cubes into the casserole dish.
- Top with the almond butter cinnamon swirl. I find this is easiest to do with my hands and kind of sculpt it like PlayDoh, rather than trying to spread it with a spatula and crushing the brioche into crumbs.
- Scatter the dried blueberries over the almond butter mixture.
- Top with the remaining brioche cubes.
- Slowly pour the egg, milk, vanilla, and maple syrup mixture over everything.
- Using a sling (see note), lower the casserole dish into the Instant Pot and onto the steam rack. Leave sling in place, tucking the handles between the casserole dish and pot if necessary.
- Cover and cook on high pressure for 25 minutes, and manually release when finished. The casserole dish will be hot! Lift it out the pot using the sling.
- Cover the top with the chilled, sliced butter, and sprinkle the brown sugar over the butter.
- Broil on low for 5-7 minute until the top is brown and crispy, but keep an eye on it! The top can go from caramelized perfection to charcoal in less than a minute.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 30 minutes before slicing and serving. Reheats beautifully in 30-60 seconds in the microwave for weekday breakfasts. No additional syrup needed, but go for it if you want!
NOTE: If you don’t own a reusable sling for your Instant Pot, you can make one from aluminum foil. Find directions here:

2023.06.01 16:31 En3rgYz3r Error Code 43 on GPU in device manager, white horizontal lines, windows doesn't recognize GPU.
Hey guys, my friend is having a big big problem with his new GPU. Let me give you some context:
Some months ago, suddenly, white horizontal lines has appeared on his monitor, we thought that was because of the GPU and/or the PSU. So, he got the GPU out and played using his CPU integrated graphics until now. He got a hold on a tested and working Nvidia GTX 1060 AND a brand new PSU but the problem with the strange white lines on his monitor was still there, we searched the web and tried to solve it thinking it may be a software problem but we took in consideration the option that the motherboard PCIe port was also damaged or something. We tried the following solutions:
- Complete driver re-install using DDU and safe mode and all that.
- Windows re-install
That's all that we found on the web and we tried the two solutions with different steps several times.
Now, why do we think that it may not be a hardware problem? Because those strange vertical/horizontal lines weren't always there. Let me explain the details:The first time that we tried to solve the problem (yesterday) he installed the drivers for the GPU both manually and automatically using GeForce Experience and it still didn't work, BUT he shut down the PC, slept for three hours and after powering it back on the issue was gone, no strange lines, when right clicking on the monitor, the option for Nvidia Control Panel would come up, and also, there was NO yellow triangle in device manager the windows recognized the GPU, everything was fine.
!!! Now, after updating his windows version, the problem came back: We have the yellow triangle in device manager that says Error code: 43 when we right click and go to the properties and there is not Nvidia control panel anywhere at all, the GPU doesn't get recognized I guess. We can't explain why it worked before and suddenly, after a windows update, it won't work no matter what we try to do. We want some advice and see if it is actually a hardware problem. !!!His motherboard is an old DELL 0GY6Y8. Below you can find a photo of the lines.

2023.06.01 05:49 killj0y1 Empress steamdeck Hogwarts help
I had this game running great a while back but took a break and now it's broke after steamos updates. Tried all the fixes I can find.
Reapplying grub fix manually and with a script. Verifying it's applied.
Changing resolution to 1200 x 800.
Tried different versions of proton both experimental and ge.
Reboots and readding the exe.
I have not tried to rollback I'd like to avoid it if possible and I have not applied the updates out there. Does anyone have it running on the latest update? Any help would be appreciated I'm very comfy in terminal if needed.

2023.06.01 02:31 MarinDogMama Feedback on our appliance selection for remodel
This sub has been helpful to look up specific questions and issues relating to appliances, and I'm hopeful some folks will have insights or feedback on our probable plan forward. We are renovating our open-plan kitchen in a 1930s home in the US Southeast. We love to cook, and we keep a pretty well-stocked fridge. Our kitchen is currently roomy but lacks pantry space, and we don't like the cooktop being in the island and its poor ventilation. While we are at it, we want a much larger cooktop space. We look at integrated ranges as well as cooktops with wall oven options. Unfortunately with our layout, wall ovens won't work well (stops us form opening up the island space entirely).
Our current setup for reference:
- 30" gas cooktop in island
- Dacor 30" wall oven with a warming drawer
- Built-in Kitchenaid microwave
- GE dishwasher
- GE Profile 30" side-by-side fridge
Our wants and motivations:
- moving our cooktop to an exterior wall and with a proper hood for better ventilation
- shifting from gas to induction for environmental reasons, coupled with excitement for this as we looked into it more. Biggest drawback is my husband is sad about not cooking wok dishes on gas.
- getting a much larger cooking surface area
- more oven space / dual ovens
- we don't want a TON of stainless steel in the kitchen as we want to keep a bit of a classic look given the house style
We don't care so much about:
- fridge - though we think we prefer freezer on bottom and are going panel ready
- dishwasher - panel ready
- microwave
What we are considering getting:
- 48" Fulgor Milano Sophia Induction Range -- There are few 48" options and this seemed to rise to the top. We looked at Aga, but they didn't seem to have the power on the elements that FM has and I didn't like not being able to see through the oven doors. Will go on exterior wall.
- 48" Fulgor Milano Pro hood -- still debating if we are going to have an exposed hood or built in with cabinets, so especially open to feedback on best hoods for function and low noise
- Bosch 800 series panel ready dishwasher
- 36" JennAir french door refrigerator, panel ready -- comparing to Thermador, but ideally wanting a fridge where the gallon size shelves in the doors don't take away from fresh food space. Any other winners to consider?
- Zephyr brand beverage center -- we want this not just for wine but sodas, water, beer, etc. Will go in island.
- Can't decide if we want a microwave drawer or a combi-speed oven. Would need to go in the island.
Thanks for any feedback or ideas, folks!
