| An aerial view of the Lake Anasagunticook lighthouse in Canton, Maine. The island is on the market for $425,000. RUSS DILLINGHAM From Globe.com: A lighthouse and cottage on an island in Lake Anasagunticook in Maine is on the market for $425,000. Located in the town of Canton in Oxford County, the lighthouse and cottage sit on a man-made island that provides breathtaking waterfront views from every angle. The property at 85 Lake Shore Drive is “a one of a kind opportunity for adventurers and dreamers,” the real estate listing states. “The 360 view offers unlimited views of both sunrise and sunsets,” the real estate listing states. “This island has a unique 20 x 24 cottage with its own 18′ lighthouse that remains much the same as it was when first built in the late 1930s. It has become a beacon for boating, swimming, fishing and seaplane access but for the owner it is just a great place for relaxing in the sun and the breeze.” Lake Anasagunticook spans 588 acres and has a maximum depth of 46 feet, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s website. The lighthouse and cottage was built with field stone by Charles Ray, who found a shallow spot near the outlet of the lake and used rocks taken from old stone walls to form the island, according to Adrian Wadsworth, a realtor with Meservier & Associates. submitted by bostonglobe to Maine [link] [comments] |

2023.06.02 16:44 Longjumping-Pen3313 Long Island Service Center?
| Not sure if any Long Island folks on here, but curious if anyone knows if this location is legitimately coming? The town name when you click on it says “Trenton, NY” which definitely isn’t Long Island (there’s a small town in upstate NY…). There’s also a service center in Trenton, NJ. I emailed support to clarify but best response they could muster was “we’re not sure, that seems wrong, if we hear more, we’ll let you know.” I’m right by this location if the map location is correct, so I’m hoping it’s accurately placed on the map. Still have a year to go until delivery, though. submitted by Longjumping-Pen3313 to Rivian [link] [comments] |

Here are some of the stories we plan to cover:
Amazon Ring, Alexa accused of privacy violations by FTC America's Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday charged, via the US Dept of Justice, two Amazon outfits with various privacy snafus. The Ring home security cam subsidiary was accused of “compromising its customers’ privacy by allowing any employee or contractor to access consumers’ private videos and by failing to implement basic privacy and security protections.” The FTC also took on Amazon over its Alexa devices’ data-retention policies, stating, “Amazon retained children’s recordings indefinitely—unless a parent requested that this information be deleted,” adding “even when a parent sought to delete that information, Amazon failed to delete transcripts of what kids said from all its databases.” (

Gigabyte firmware update system insecure Researchers at the security firm Eclypsium published finding that 271 motherboards from the computer OEM Gigabyte include a UEFI firmware update utility that runs on bootup. This system can go online and download updates without any user notification or authorization. However the researchers say this update system doesn’t properly authenticate code, often sending over an unencrypted HTTP connection, letting it be easily spoofed by a malicious actor. It also looks for updates available from network attached storage, which could easily be intercepted by an attacker on the same network. Eclypsium said it notified Gigabyte and the company plans to fix the issues. (

Leading experts warn of a risk of extinction from AI On Tuesday, AI experts issued a dire warning saying, “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.” Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and Geoffrey Hinton, also known as the godfather of AI who recently left Google, were among the hundreds who signed the statement posted on the Center for AI Safety’s website. The call for AI guardrails has intensified as companies have rushed to adopt new tech. This point was underscored Tuesday when chipmaker Nvidia briefly became worth over $1 trillion dollars after share prices surged due to its AI advances. (

Attackers use encrypted RPMSG messages in Microsoft 365 targeted phishing attacks Researchers at Trustwave have observed threat actors using encrypted RPMSG attachments sent via compromised Microsoft 365 accounts in a phishing campaign aimed at stealing Microsoft credentials. RPMSG files are used to deliver emails with Rights-Managed Email Object Protocol enabled. This protocol controls e-mail access and usage permissions. Instead of a plain text, e-mails via RPMSG files are sent with content encrypted and stored as encrypted file attachment. The recipients can read the encrypted messages only after being authenticated with their Microsoft account or obtaining a one-time passcode. The message attempts to trick recipients into clicking the “Read the message” button to decrypt the protected message. Upon clicking the link, the recipients are redirected to an Office 365 webpage with a request to sign into their Microsoft account. Once authenticated with the Microsoft service, the recipients are redirected to a page displaying the attackers’ phishing email. The message contains a “Click here to continue” button that points to a fake SharePoint document hosted on Adobe’s InDesign service. (

Lender OneMain fined $4.25 million for cybersecurity lapses OneMain Financial Group, which specializes in issuing loans to people with “non-prime” credit histories, will pay a $4.25 million penalty in New York state for cybersecurity lapses found during a government investigation. The DFS investigation found, for example, that the company allowed local administrative users to share accounts and permitted those accounts to use the default password that users got when they were onboarded. The department also noted, it used a non-formalized project administration framework developed in-house that failed to address certain key software development life cycle phases, it did not assess third-party vendors properly, despite having a risk policy in place, and further failed to appropriately adjust several vendors’ risk scores even after the occurrence of multiple cybersecurity events. OneMain has responded by saying it has “long since addressed” problems found in the investigation, which examined its policies from 2017 to early 2020. (

The human factor fuels industrial APT attacks Kaspersky has issued a report identifying the primary factors contributing to advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks in industrial sectors. The first is the absence of isolation in operational technology (OT) networks which can allow attackers to better manage malware traffic. The report also highlights disgruntled employees and contractors as well as those accessing OT networks without adequate attention to information security measures as a significant driver of cyber-criminal activities in industrial settings. Finally, the report asserts that outdated, misconfigured and unpatched systems contribute to exacerbating the spread of security threats. (Pair with Kaspersky iOT APT discovery) (

The dangers of Salesforce “ghost sites” Researchers at Varonis sounded the alarm on these so-called “ghost sites.” These can occur when an organization sets up a Salesforce “Communities” service, where customers, vendors, and other partners can collaborate within an organizations Salesforce environment. If an organization migrates from Salesforce, often these Communities remain online. This can occur when organizations point DNS records to a short convenient URL, and then migrate that to a new service. Since Salesforce also supports autonomous dataflows into Communities, these can continue to receive fresh data, potentially exposed to anyone with the internal domain. Varonis warns that organizations should delete these sites entirely, not simply ending URL redirects. (

BlackCat claims the hack of Casepoint The BlackCat ransomware gang has added the company Casepoint to its list of victims on its Tor Dark Web site. This discovery was made by cybersecurity researcher Dominic Alvieri. Casepoint provides a legal discovery platform used by several US agencies, including the SEC, FBI, and US Courts. The gang claims to have stolen 2TB of sensitive data, belonging to lawyers, SEC, DoD, FBI, police and more. If this breach is verified, the ransomware group may have compromised sensitive and possibly classified information. (

2023.06.02 16:34 moshpitrocker Updated List - Partially Energized GPA Feeders/Circuits as of Friday, June 02, 2023
| Updated List - Partially Energized GPA Feeders/Circuits as of Friday, June 02, 2023 In an effort to continue to keep the public updated with our progress, we are providing a list of feeders/circuits that are Partially Energized in various areas around the island. GPA crews have continued to work through the night with overlapping shifts to continue recovery efforts and energize as many feeders/circuits in each village around the island. As mentioned, this weekend our team will launch the next phase of recovery. GPA will divide crews into three or more sectors (north, central and south) to begin concentrated efforts in restoring as many customers as possible in parts of the feedecircuit with minimal damages. For those areas with more extensive damages, the crews will assess the feedecircuit and return at a later time to make repairs and restore power. GPA crews will continue to work around the clock as quickly and safely as possible until the last customer is restored. GPA continues to ask for the public’s patience and understanding as we work on restoring power to the entire island. # submitted by moshpitrocker to guam [link] [comments] |

2023.06.02 16:30 AutoModerator [Download Course] Dan Koe – Digital Economics Masters Degree (Genkicourses.site)
| Get the course here: [Download Course] Dan Koe – Digital Economics Masters Degree (Genkicourses.site) Our website: https://www.genkicourses.site/product/dan-koe-digital-economics-masters-degree/ Phase 0) Digital Economics 101 The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date. This is an onboarding module that will get you up to speed so we can get straight into the material. This will be required to finish before the start date. - Gain a deep understanding of all of the pieces in the digital economy.
- Learn about the future of media and code — the front-end and backend of the internet — so you can focus your efforts.
- Understand digital leverage, distribution, no-code tools, and digital assets so you can take part in the mental & financial wealth transfer.
Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with what will sell. You already have the answer. You just don’t have the clarity. - Develop a long-term strategy to create your own niche — meaning you don’t have to worry about your “competition” playing status games.
- Discover your life’s work, curiosities, and obsessions. I see too many people that are uncertain about this for years.
- Cultivate and turn your vision, goals, and values into a brand that attracts an audience you love interacting with (and that will buy from you, and only you).
Phase 2) Content Strategy There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. That they are congruent with and trust. It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable. That’s what separates you from the sea of people posting surface-level copy-cat style posts.Example and putting my money where my mouth is: - Become an expert-level speaker or writer on the topics you care about.
- Never run out of content ideas for your posts or promotions (without using content templates — that’s how you stay a commodity).
- Create posts, blogs, tweets, images, and videos that resonate with other’s on a deep level. People will actually ask you how you got so good at what you do.
- Separate yourself from the ocean of B-tier creators that struggle to sell their products, services, andhave their ideas stick in the head of their audience.
- Implement our Epistemic Research Method — which is just a fancy way of saying scientific research method… but it’s for researching your mind to craft brilliant content and product ideas.
Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge ( that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them). That is what people pay for.Considering 95% of the market are beginners… if you are good at something, you can help them get to your level ( no matter how “basic” you think the information is).Do you not watch basic content all day anyway? People don’t want new information, they want to be reminded of what works. - Use our Minimum Viable Offer strategy to start monetizing immediately (and have something to improve over time, rather than procrastinating until it’s perfect).
- Have a strategy for reducing the time you spend working over time (as you build leverage and improve your offer).
- Know how to create your own customers from the audience you are building, instead of “finding” the right customer for your offer.
- Take the guesswork out of building coaching, consulting, or digital product offers.
Phase 4) Marketing Strategy You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple promotions. You will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way). - Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
- Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
- Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.
Bonus) The Creator Command Center The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales. Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan. And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days. That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ If you're wondering why our courses are priced lower than the original prices and are feeling a bit suspicious (which is understandable), we can provide proof of the course's contents. We can provide a screenshot of the course's contents or send you a freebie, such as an introduction video or another video from the course, to prove that we do have the course. Should you wish to request proof, we kindly ask you to reach out to us. Please be aware that our courses do not include community access. This is due to the fact that we do not have the authority to manage this feature. Despite our desire to incorporate this aspect, it is, unfortunately, unfeasible. 2023.06.02 16:27 equilarian SMART Terminal / AXIS Logistics Park Update
Hi All -- it's been a hot minute. I've been super busy but wanted to check in and post an update. This is the email that was just sent out:
We are on social media!! Please like, share, and follow us on
Instagram and
Facebook. We have been to posting content. If you have any photos or videos you'd like us to share, please send them our way.
We've also started posting yard signs around town. If you see one, be sure to scan the QR code and follow the links to email the entire city council.
Here are some upcoming dates. Please be sure to mark your calendars to join us!
SMTX City Council Meeting - Tuesday, June 6th @ 6pm
- San Marcos City Hall, 630 E Hopkins St.
SMART/AXIS Is not on the agenda, but we will be there to speak during public comment. We invite you to join us either virtually or in person. Council
will be discussing if they want to change the rules to Council Committees, which was prompted by the way the SMART Council Committee was handled.
Community Town Hall 1 - Sunday, June 11th @ 3pm
- San Marcos Public Library, Room A, 625 E Hopkins St.
What does bringing a massive Heavy Industrial Park to San Marcos mean for our community and neighbors? Join us for a brief presentation and discussion / Q&A about where we've been, where we are, and what Heavy Industrial looks like for taxpayers, property owners, the river, Reedville, Maxwell, and Martindale. (posting a graphic in the comments)
Community Town Hall 2 - Sunday, July 2nd @ 3pm
- San Marcos Public Library, Room A, 625 E Hopkins St.
2nd Community Town Hall with similar topic to 1st meeting. We will be going into more detail about what you can do to help at the July 3rd Council Meeting and signing up for Public Comment.
SMTX City Council Meeting - 1st reading of Heavy Industrial Zoning - Tuesday, July 3rd @ 6pm
- San Marcos City Hall, 630 E Hopkins St.
City Council will be voting on the 1st reading of zoning the SMART / AXIS land to Heavy Industrial. We need AS MANY people as we can get to SHOW UP for our community and the river to speak during public comment. This is not a public hearing, so the only opportunity we have to speak is during Public Comment. Details on how to sign up will be provided once the timing is closer. (posting a graphic in the comments)
SMTX City Council Meeting - 2nd reading of Annexation and HI Zoning. BOTH PUBLIC HEARINGS - Tuesday, August 1st @ 6pm
- San Marcos City Hall, 630 E Hopkins St.
City Council will be voting on the 2nd reading of annexation and zoning the SMART / AXIS land to Heavy Industrial (if not delayed for whatever reason). Both readings are PUBLIC HEARINGS, so we each get a total of NINE MINUTES to speak like the April 18th meeting. The more people we can get to show up, the better. The more we can get to speak during public comment and both hearings, even better!
The April 18th meeting went for a little over FIVE HOURS. Let's make it last longer than that and truly show council how much we care and don't want this zoning to pass.
Other things.... We have given away all 100 of our signs! Thank you to everyone who has one in their yard. We are hoping to get some larger signs out into the wild. If you have a solid and visible location please let us know. Some of you have already reached out but a reminder is always appreciated. If there are more folks who want smaller signs we will need to make another order as well. Please reach out if you'd like a small sign.
We are seriously considering getting an attorney but need people to commit to join a board to represent the community. If you'd like to donate to hire an attorney, the retainer fee is $5000. Please reach out if you'd like to donate or are interested in learning more about what being on a board looks like. The purpose of an attorney is because the Development Agreement has a contingency clause in it that takes the city's voting power away through contract zoning. It states that if the land is not zoned HI, then the city cannot annex. However, annexation MUST happen
We Need Help Spreading the Word We printed out A TON of flyers and still have A TON left. If you'd like to pass out flyers please reach out.

2023.06.02 16:17 PresidentialCorgi The saga continues (Purchase story)
This is a continuation of
my last post, where I got a run around trying to reschedule my appointment due to a conflict. That conflict ended up clearing, unfortunately, but ultimately it should have all been fine. I'll still get a MY, eventually.
Fast forward to 5/24. My conflict is now gone, so I removed the hold from my account in the hopes of still getting a car quickly. I had no VIN assigned, but the EDD became Jun-Jul 2023. 5/25, I got a new VIN assigned, so I figured things would be looking up! EDD switched to Jun 02-14, which seemed pretty nice to me. About a day or two later, it switched to Jun 13-22, which while still not terrible, is causing me to put more and more miles on my trade in, reducing its value. I was becoming weary of all this, but still determined to get this car I've been saving up for, for nearly a decade.
In the meantime, until the car arrives, I've been digging through threads on the various Tesla subreddits for info on the Model Ys coming out, any noticeable issues or changes, and things to look for when mine arrives. I notice a lot of speculation around HW4, and how many LR models coming out of Fremont are beginning to ship with it. I got a Standard Range AWD, so I figured I'd be out of luck, but someone
checking VINs in a thread found a HW4 model out of Austin. I figured what the hell, and
decided to toss my hat in the ring, too. To my surprise, my typically awful luck had changed, and I HAD A HW4 Model Y out of Austin! Incredible! I was so elated, I texted my wife, and told her the exciting news. I couldn't believe I had managed to snag one, and had I not relinquished my VIN for my prior conflict, it wouldn't have happened.
As you may guess, I haven't come here to gloat, but rather to share my pain. A mere 4 minutes after discovering I had a HW4 model out of Austin, I get a
text message from Tesla, stating the following:
"Hi Corgi, we've just received an update that the Model Y assigned to your order will not make it to your delivery center. We are actively working with our factory team to build you a new Model Y as soon as possible. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and will provide you with an update once we have a new Model Y assigned to your order."
This was the swiftest kick in the head I had taken in a while. I had a whopping 4 minutes of joy before it was stolen from me. While a voice in the back of my head told me "it's fine, perhaps the new build will have HW4...", I know in my heart that someone who knows somebody at Tesla probably snatched my unicorn of a car because of its HW4, as a favor or something. It just sucks so much to have not only an additional wait, but a very high likelihood of getting a HW3 model instead, as they work to deplete the old stock towards existing orders.
As of this post, I have no VIN assigned, an EDD of Jun 13-22, and a sense of defeat. May all of your outstanding orders arrive with HW4. Thanks for reading!

2023.06.02 16:13 klutz69 How is fault determined when one party is not cooperating?
My mom was in a small accident a few days ago, she was traveling East in a major street, and pulled into the left turn lane (not at a light or stop sign) to enter a shopping center. Westbound traffic was slow because of an inop street light. She had to cross three lanes to get into the center. The first two lanes nearest to hear stopped to let her cross, since traffic was pretty much stopped. Third lane, nearest to shopping center entrance was clear of traffic.
When she crossed across the first two lanes and into the third, another car traveling very fast collided with my mom on the third lane. She did not see him, we are thinking he came from the middle lane and into the third lane to get around the stopped traffic.
My mom's car has front end damage, while the other drivers car has front fender damage so its pretty clear my moms car struck his.
I arrived at the scene to help with exchanging info, and driver did not have ID, phone or insurance info on him (I dont believe it). I took his info verbally, and took pictures of his car. He didnt want to get insurance involved, and when we disagreed about fault, I insisted on insurance info. He got angry, left mid conversation and drove away.
I called this into PD just so we can have a report. I explained the situation, and provided his details. Later he text me a picture of a drivers license for another person with altered info (bad photoshop). He must have forgotten that he gave me his name (I was able to find him on facebook) and now the info doesnt match.
Not sure how insurance will approach with this info. Any suggestions? We're probably going to have to deal with our insurance since its clear he wont provide his.

2023.06.02 16:13 PotentialPrimary5054 Landlord is stalling on fixing a/c compressor in TX
I am looking for advice and what can be done in my circumstances. I've been renting an apartment in a small town in Texas for 18 months. Since day 1 we had maintained issues and issues with a/c in particular. On May 26th our a/c stopped working. After a long day of waiting on maintenance they estimated that it needs a new compressor. I asked them to install a/c units. Maintenance said that compressor was ordered the same day. Following Monday, I had to keep calling leasing office, they had no idea what's going on. Leasing manager told me their professional should be there to estimate if it needs a part or a full compressor, but they don't know if he actually showed up. I've sent them a certified letter stating that if the issue won't be fixed within 7 business days I will be seeking to break a lease. Ideally, without paying penalty on a leasing agreement. That's when their manager went ballistic and rude and said that they provided me with reasonable accommodations. I've checked with the city and they have no codes on tenants/landlord (I figure bc it's a small town). Leasing office will not decrease my rent based of no access to central a/c. Neither give me any updates. Window units will not work when it will hit 100 in Texas. My leasing agreement has no paragraph on A/C whatsoever. I dont have extra money to pay for breaking the lease, neither i think it's fair. What are my options?

2023.06.02 16:10 Immigration87 Breaking News: Deportation Numbers Reach Record High in the UK
The
deportation from UK numbers have reached an all-time high, sparking concerns and questions about who is being affected and why. With so many individuals facing the possibility of being forced to leave their homes and loved ones behind, it's important to understand the reasons behind this surge in deportations. In this blog post, we'll dive into the details of what's causing these record-breaking numbers and explore how you can help those who are impacted by them. Whether you're a concerned citizen or an immigration solicitor looking for ways to assist your clients, read on to learn more about this pressing issue.
The UK's Deportation Numbers Reach Record Highs In recent years, the UK has seen a significant increase in deportation numbers. According to reports from the Home Office, the total number of individuals deported from the country reached an all-time high in 2020. This statistic has sparked concerns and debates about who is being affected by these deportations and why.
One group that's been heavily impacted by this surge in deportations are undocumented immigrants who have lived in the UK for years but don't have legal status. These individuals often face harsh consequences such as detention centers and forced removals, leaving many families torn apart.
Another factor contributing to these record-high deportation numbers is stricter immigration policies implemented by the government. In recent years, there has been a push towards tougher regulations on immigration which can result in more individuals being denied entry or facing deportation.
It's clear that there are many complex factors at play when it comes to understanding why deportation numbers are reaching record highs in the UK. While some argue that tighter regulations are necessary to protect national security and resources, others believe that greater compassion must be shown towards those who may have fled their home countries due to war or persecution.
Who is Affected by These Deportations? The record high numbers of deportations in the UK have affected a significant number of individuals and families residing in the country. Among those affected are refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented immigrants, and people with criminal records.
Refugees who have fled their home countries due to war or persecution may face deportation if their status is not recognized by the UK government. Asylum seekers who are awaiting a decision on their application for protection may also be at risk of deportation.
Undocumented immigrants who have overstayed their visas or entered the country illegally are among those most vulnerable to deportation. The fear of being deported can lead them to live in constant anxiety and uncertainty.
People with criminal records, including minor offenses such as traffic violations, can also face
UK deportation . This has caused many families to be separated from loved ones who have lived in the country for years but are now facing removal due to past convictions.
These deportations affect both individuals and entire communities. It's important that we understand the diverse experiences of those affected by these policies and work towards finding solutions that prioritize human rights and dignity for all.
The Reasons for the Record High Numbers
The UK's record high deportation numbers are not without reason. One of the main reasons is due to the stricter immigration policies implemented by the government in recent years.
Many individuals who have been living in the UK for several years, some even with families and children born in the country, are being deported on grounds of overstaying their visas or having criminal records.
In addition to this, Brexit has also played a role in increasing deportation numbers. Non-UK citizens who do not meet new post-Brexit immigration requirements are at risk of being deported.
Furthermore, COVID-19 travel restrictions have made it difficult for those whose visas have expired to leave the country voluntarily. As a result, they face deportation as an enforced measure by authorities.
While there may be various reasons for these record-high deportation numbers in the UK, it is crucial that we understand their impact and work towards finding solutions that prioritize human rights and compassionate treatment of all individuals affected by these issues.
The Consequences of Deportation
The consequences of deportation can be severe and far-reaching. For individuals who are deported, they may face challenges in finding employment, obtaining housing, and accessing healthcare in their country of origin. They may also be separated from family members and loved ones who remain in the UK.
For families left behind, deportation can have a devastating impact. Children may be forced to grow up without one or both parents, leading to emotional distress and long-term trauma. In some cases, spouses may also be separated from each other for years at a time.
Deportation can also have economic impacts on both the individual being deported and the surrounding community. Individuals who are deported may lose their jobs or businesses that they have built over several years. The communities where these individuals live will also experience a loss of productivity if many people are being deported at once.
Moreover, there is often significant stigma attached to deportation which can lead to social isolation and discrimination against those affected by it. This can further exacerbate feelings of loneliness and depression among those who have been forcibly removed from their homes.
The consequences of deportation go far beyond just removing an individual from one country to another; it affects entire families as well as local economies and communities too.
How to Help Those Who Are Affected
If you know someone who is facing deportation or has been recently deported, it can be difficult to know how best to support them during this challenging time. Here are some ways you can help:
Firstly, educate yourself on the immigration policies in the UK and what rights those facing deportation have. This will allow you to provide accurate information and guidance as needed.
Secondly, offer emotional support by being present and listening without judgment. Facing deportation can be an incredibly stressful experience for individuals and their families.
Thirdly, connect them with resources such as legal aid clinics or community organizations that specialize in supporting immigrants.
Consider advocating for policy changes at a local level by contacting your elected representatives and expressing your concerns about current immigration policies.
Remember that every individual's situation is unique, so it's important to approach each case with sensitivity and respect while offering practical assistance where possible.
Conclusion
The UK's record high deportation numbers are a cause for concern. Families and individuals who have built their lives in the country now face the prospect of being forcibly removed. It is important to note that not all deportations are justified, and it is crucial to seek legal advice from experienced immigration solicitors if you or someone you know is facing deportation.
The reasons behind these deportations vary; however, it is undeniable that they have had severe consequences on those affected. With many losing their jobs, homes, and loved ones, it is vital to show compassion towards them during this difficult time.
As a society, we must strive towards finding more humane solutions for dealing with immigration issues rather than resorting to mass deportations. The government could consider providing more support for immigrants and increasing funding for organisations that work towards helping them integrate into society.
We need to remember that migrants are human beings too – people who may be fleeing war-torn countries or seeking better opportunities for themselves and their families. Therefore, as a nation known for its tolerance and acceptance of diversity, we should do our best to provide help wherever possible instead of turning our backs on those in need.

2023.06.02 16:05 theverywetbanana Answers to Transport Portfolio Questions in Holyrood
I apologise to those who I have let down by not answering these questions. I have been rather busy, as some may have figured by my resignation as First Minister of Wales. I am now able to answer, and will do my best below.
Would the minister address whether this Government has plans for supporting the transition to greener shipping?
While I do not currently have plans to do this, I can of course work with the member to do so. Shipping as of now relies on fossil fuels, but i’m sure that scotland can work on this with the other members of the government
Would the minister support the introduction of licensing for carriers transporting fuels within Scottish ports?
I would support this and would be happy to work with the honourable member in doing so
Would the Government work to adopt similar global emission caps on vessels registered and partaking in activities in Scotland?
I am sure that we will be able to achieve this, as reducing emissions is always at the forefront of my policies
Does the government have plans to improve the regulatory framework surrounding the operations of ports in Scotland?
At this moment in time, I do not have such plans. Should this matter need a response, I will provide one
Could the Minister confirm whether this Government would support increased high speed rail connections between Scotland and the rest of the UK?
Personally, I would support this project, however this would come at a great cost to the taxpayer. I of course reside over Transport issues in Westminster also, and so have had a look at this before
As the Cabinet Secretary will no doubt be aware, the entirety of Scotland's trunk road system is the responsibility of the Scottish Government. The M8 through Glasgow is due to have a temporary 40mph speed reductions brought in between junction 25 & 25a and given that the M8 at this point is going through a built up area, would the Secretary consider making this speed restriction permanent, in the interest of promoting better urban air quality?
A review will be made into the feasibility of keeping these restrictions, however they will remain temporary for the time being
I asked the First Minister what he is doing about arranging a temporary provision for the currently out-of-action Corran Ferry which is essential to keeping local businesses running. Lacking an answer from them, I will direct the same question to the Transport Secretary. What are they doing to resolve this problem, and have they considered approaching the MoD for military assistance?
Military assistance will not be needed in this case. A replacement for the ferry would be far more suitable, and I can provide this in due course
Will the infrastructure strategy proposed in the PfG be completed this term?
It is likely that not all parts of the expected progress in my department will be made this term. Time constraints and other issues have led to this. They will of course be completed as soon as I am able
Does the Cabinet Secretary support the expansion of the Railways (Electrification) Act to Scotland?
Yes, I do. Electrification is our best way forward
How will the government improve transport access for rural and island communities?
As I have done in Wales, I will be encouraging the expansion of local transport networks, such as buses and small rail lines
Does the government have any prevailing plans in relation to the extension of high speed rail to Scotland?
Please see my answer above. This would be a great cost as of now, but I will continue to assess the feasibility
I would like to raise a crucial issue in Scotland to the Cabinet Secretary. In Scotland, on the A93, landslides can occur and block crucial access to roads and transport links. How will the government resolve to reach a solution to this evident ecological and isolationary issue?
This is not an ideal situation to face, however a more permanent solution must be found. I will be assessing the possibility of creating a new route for vehicles to use in the event of such incidents on the A93
Would the transport secretary agree with me that there is a case for a car ferry service between Helensburgh and Greenock, avoiding a 50 minute, 33 mile car journey?
I would agree with the member. Cutting journey lengths also cuts emissions, and so I would be happy to work with the member on rectifying this
What new projects are being developed to support commuter towns like Bathgate, in particular young professionals who commute into Edinburgh or Glasgow?
The expansion of scottish bus networks is something I would like to see, and so an increased investment into public transport will be my solution for this
The new government has continued to make promises regarding introducing cheaper fares for public transport across the country. In the Programme for Government, a general term of 'reform' is used, alongside discussions of free travel for under 18s and smartcard access. To ask the Secretary what those reform plans mean in detail?
These plans have since been released, and so the member can refer to the new legislation put forward by the First Minister
I would like to draw members attention to the dire state of road quality and safety in Scotland. In Edinburgh as an example, roads have deteriorated to such a state that not even pedestrian areas remain stable. It is imperative that the issue of potholes and other hazards are properly handled. So I therefore ask, how will this government ensure local governments properly manage this?
I will be increasing funding for the repaving and fixing of roads that are deemed to be unsafe for either road users or pedestrians. Local governments will receive a chunk of money to use specifically for fixing their lowest quality roads.
How much is the Government’s plans for lower fares and price caps costing the Scottish Treasury please, do they believe that money is being spent well?
I would like to remind the member that I am not the finance minister and so do not have the specific costings. This money is of course being spent well, as with all of this government’s projects
Has the Government recently assessed the suitability of the bus network across Scotland, and if so what are they doing about it? Have they been working with local authorities, and if so which ones?
I have assessed this issue. Bus networks need expanding and at a rapid rate, both to reduce emissions and to take more cars off of the road. I can update the member on the full details on a later date
What steps has the Transport Minister taken this term to increase the speed of our transition to a wholly green transport network?
As i have in Wales, I will be ensuring the full transition to electric buses and vehicles in the next 20 years. I hope this answer satisfies the member
Has the Transport Minister undertaken any work on coast paths and cycle routes this term, to support our move to a low carbon nation? If so, what exactly has been done?
I have not currently done so, however I can promise the member that work will be made on this
A major factor in accessibility to rail services especially in rural areas is the ability to access a bus link to the rail station, with a timetable that meets the train services. For many of my constituents, and of course many across Scotland, whether there is a suitable bus link to their nearest station can make the difference between using the train or driving their car and contributing to congestion and pollution. To ask the Secretary what steps they are taking to ensure as many residents as possible are linked with appropriate bus connections to their nearest train service? Most people in Scotland already have this connection available. If the member would like to inform me of the places where this is not possible, please reach out to me and I will find a solution with the local authority
Would Transport Scotland/Còmhdhail Alba consider a trial of new transport technologies such as responsive transport in rural and island communities like mine?
I would be happy to trail such technologies, as they will eventually be the future of rural transport
To ask the Secretary what they see the future of the port at Cairnryan and how it fits in with the rest of Scotland's transport network?
As of now, I have no plans for adapting or changing this port
Does the Cabinet Secretary agree that the Edinburgh Suburban Line should be reopened, potentially as a tram-train, to serve the good people of Gorgie, Craiglockhart, Morningside, Blackford, Newington, Duddingston, Craigmillar, Brunstane, Portobello, Piershill, and Abbeyhill, and to allow them to avoid the traffic of central Edinburgh?
I can certainly see why the member wishes to reopen the Edinburgh Suburban Line. I will support this while in office
Does the Cabinet Secretary agree that we should explore turning Scotland's urban motorways into boulevards, or perhaps even axe them?
No. This would make traffic far worse and would benefit almost nobody
What has this government done, and what will it do, for active travel?
Please see the latest legislation submitted by First Minister
What has the Minister done to reduce rail fares this term, if anything?
Please see my answer above
As mentioned by other members the motorways through the heart of the Glasgow city centre have had extreme speed restrictions placed on them. Walking through Glasgow around Charing Cross, you can see traffic backed up for as far as you can see. Obviously this is not how a motorway should function. To ask the Secretary if they consider the extension of motorways through Glasgow centre decades ago, in hindsight, a failure and mis-step in planning?
Perhaps it was. Traffic congestion is a severe issue in Scotland, and this government will work to fix this
To ask the Secretary how they believe links to the Islands, including via ferries, can be improved?
The islands are a unique situation, where not much else other than more ferries can fix transport links. The only thing I would be able to do is increase the frequency in ferry services through subsidies
The West Highland Line is at risk of disruption from rock fall due to its position in the terrain. Furthermore, indication of such an event is only provided by a decades old wiring system that is maintained by bodges upon bodges. To ask the Secretary if they will commit to improving safety on the line by looking into new technologies in this area?
New technologies will not fix this issue. Scotland has a rugged terrain, and there is little this government can do about it.

2023.06.02 16:05 mduda59625 Yearning for New Jersey
Recently, I embarked on a journey, bidding farewell to the captivating landscapes of California. I found myself in different places, including Florida and Massachusetts. However, my heart ached for the familiar embrace of New Jersey, a place that held a special and irreplaceable spot in my soul.
Florida's tropical beauty couldn't capture the essence of home. The scorching heat and dry climate left me yearning for the changes in weather that New Jersey graciously provided. Massachusetts, while charming, couldn't compare to the beauty and untouched nature that had become a part of me. I missed the enchantment of New Jersey's landscapes, where the lush forests, beautiful beaches and vibrant trees painted a picturesque scene.
New Jersey, with its diverse communities and vibrant economy, held a place in my heart that no other location could replace. It symbolized the sense of community and belonging that made it feel like home. The diversity of the state brought a richness of perspectives and experiences that fostered innovation and collaboration. Driving through its scenic roads, surrounded by the beauty of nature, brought a sense of peace and familiarity.
The yearning for home, for the captivating landscapes of New Jersey, remains deeply rooted within me. The memories of exploring its diverse cities and towns, the joy of witnessing its natural wonders, continue to evoke a profound longing. While I appreciate the experiences gained in my current surroundings, they cannot replicate the unique charm that New Jersey holds.
While my journey has allowed personal growth, the allure of New Jersey's charm remains steady. I cherish the memories and treasures woven into the fabric of my being during my time there. I eagerly await the opportunity to once again be embraced by its captivating beauty and reconnect with the sense of community that makes New Jersey an irreplaceable and cherished home. I miss New Jersey!

2023.06.02 16:04 dustypandayt Harry Potter but more epic. Made with ChatGPT
Once upon a time in the quaint town of Quahog, there lived a rather peculiar family known as the Griffins. The head of the family, Peter Griffin, was an oafish and lovable goofball with a knack for getting into trouble. His wife, Lois Griffin, was a strong-willed and patient woman who often found herself exasperated by Peter's antics.
Their children, Meg, Chris, and Stewie, were quite an interesting bunch. Meg, the eldest, struggled with being the family's punching bag, often enduring their jokes and pranks. Chris, the middle child, was a lovable but dim-witted teenager with a heart of gold. And then there was Stewie, the youngest, who possessed an astonishing intellect trapped inside the body of a baby. Stewie had grand ambitions of world domination and a particular dislike for his mother.
One day, a letter arrived for the Griffin family, addressed to Stewie. It turned out that Stewie was a wizard and had been accepted into the prestigious Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Excited by the prospect of magical adventures, the entire Griffin family set off for the magical world.
At Hogwarts, the Griffins encountered a myriad of colorful characters. The wise and bearded Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, took a liking to Peter's unorthodox approach to life. The stern but fair Professor McGonagall tried her best to keep the Griffin children in line. The bumbling Professor Quagmire, with his incessant innuendos, provided comic relief. And of course, the grumpy potions master, Severus Snape, couldn't stand the Griffin family's antics.
As the Griffins navigated the halls of Hogwarts, they stumbled upon various adventures and misadventures. Peter accidentally unleashed a swarm of pixies during a Care of Magical Creatures class. Stewie's time-turner escapades caused mayhem and confusion. Meg and Chris formed an unlikely alliance with fellow misfits, Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood.
Together, the Griffins managed to thwart the schemes of the nefarious Lord Voldemort, who had a striking resemblance to Stewie's teddy bear, Rupert. Through their unique blend of dysfunction and heart, the Griffins brought an unexpected spark of chaos and humor to the magical world of Harry Potter.
And so, the tale of the Griffin family's Hogwarts adventures became legendary, forever etching their names into the wizarding world's history as the most unconventional and hilarious family to ever grace the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

2023.06.02 15:56 horological_pursuit Comparison: 2023 MYLR7 vs 2021 M3LR
| Just took delivery of a MYLR7 and thought it would be useful to share the similarities and differences with my 2021 Model 3. We bought the Y to be our daily driver and kid hauler (two kids 4 and 6 years old) - Quality improvements: The 2023 model Y is much better put together in almost every way than my 2021 Model 3. The panel gaps have much tighter tolerances, the doors close with a more satisfying “thunk”, and the trunk closes more smoothly and doesn’t make a loud beep when the button is pressed. Even the center console seems more solid. It’s was a pleasant surprise to find so many improvements only two years after our first Tesla purchase.
- Suspension: the suspension in the Model Y is a definite improvement over the Model 3. For reference, my Model Y has 19” gemini wheels, and the Model 3 has 18” aero wheels. While still taut, the Model Y handles bumpy New England roads better than the 3. By no means does it swallow big potholes, but the ride isn’t punishing like the M3 can be.
- Driving: The Model Y is noticeably slower off the line than the Model 3, but this also makes for a smoother take-off. I also noticed that the regenerative breaking is smoother in the Model Y. Don’t get me wrong, the Y can still bring the heat, especially at highway speeds, but it’s a more tame beast than the 3. Overall it makes for a smooth, pleasant driving experience.
- Fun Factor: the Model 3 still wins with the fun factor. It’s faster, handles better around high speed corners, and overall feels more nimble and maneuverable. The height of the Model Y also makes it feel less sporty and more of a “mom/dad” car. I’m a father of two so that’s ok 😜
- Space: Obviously, the Y has more space. It has a noticeably larger “frunk”, and of course, the hatch style trunk provides more space and easier loading than the model 3. The sub trunk is also larger. With all of the storage cubic feet combined, it’s hard to think of a scenario where we would need a larger vehicle. The extra leg room in the second row is where it really shines. Much more comfortable for my kids who are still in car seats.
Some Model Y specific observations: my wife much prefers the higher seating position and larger trunk of the model Y. The 3rd row is nearly unusable, even with little kids (ours are 4 and 6). The problem is the leg room in the second row disappears when the third row is in use. Oh well, we’ll use it in a pinch only! We’re really loving the Y. I think it’s the ideal vehicle for a family of 3-4, or for any couples who enjoy taking road trips. So glad we bought it as a daily drivekid hauler. tesla #teslamodely submitted by horological_pursuit to TeslaModelY [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 15:55 dgaruti what exactly are the ethical problems with a orizontal "caste" system ?
i am making a realistic utopian worldbuilding project , and i want to have two communities :one with a market and little to no division of labour and no employment ,
as well a fiat currency made by the pepole , allowing everyone to move to a new town , getting a bit in debt and eventually repaying it back since debt with intrest is seen as evil .
and the other the one i care about today is a more close knit community with commons and well organized cities , however i figured that in order for this to work there would either need to be
- a sort of redistributive state wich is boring and has several problems
- or with a more or less rigid division of labour in wich different pepole are seen as having fundamentally different needs : miners will be seen as fundamentally requiring pickaxes , blacksmiths will fundamentally require ores ,the trade between the two is however deeply unequal( pickaxes aren't equal to metal ore and they don't have to be in quantity or in quality , it's just the job of the two castes to provide resources thusly ignoring the quality or the quantity)but works in a "to each according to need from each according to ability" way ...
NATURALLY THERE WOULD BE NO UPPER CASTE THAT TAKES THE SPOILS AND TAXES ,AND NO UNTOUCHABLE CASTE THAT DOES THE DIRTIEST JOBS IN EXCHANGE FOR NOTHING ...
that would be a shitty idea ...
the way in wich the castes are organized would be assigned at the start ofstandard education wich is rather specialized close to the beginning ,so they would be less castes and more guilds ,
(the kinship system of these guys will be explained below)
some problems i foresee :lack of choice :for them it wouldn't be much of a problem :both for their historical and ideological reasons they are pretty skeptical of individual decision making
expecially if it comes from children , they would see it an uneducated tantrum i thinkthey would however come to trust somenthing that allows society to work more smoothly ,such as division of labour and giving children more free time to play by reducing the amount of subjects they have ...
lack of innovation and interdisciplinarism :
- they would care more about having a decent living and free time
- there would be a book keeping class that would have to research and keep track of all other jobs ,ensuring that all informations on all professions are avialable in a easier to digest form compared to having a forest farmer talk to a sailor about how to take care about the woods and the types of foods that are recommanded to not get scurvy , and for the sailor to tell them what plants are or are not on the other side of the world ...
- the book keeping class will become the groundwork for the analog computing revolution they'll have that will take care of giving other castes their math ...
i am mostly asking because we just came out of an entire era of YA dystopian fiction making the most arbitrary caste systems imaginable , as well as our era being defined by a profound dislike of inequality , and at the same time the most cutthroat relations between people ...
so in making a caste systems i am trying to make it as "ethical" as possible ...

2023.06.02 15:54 Eyeszaque Bassist looking for collaborators for unique metal project in the Inland Empire, CA
Hello there, I'm a 33 year old mostly self-taught bassist and very middling producer. I've been working on an album for a couple of years now, having started it in a two-piece band that unfortunately fell apart due to adult life being what it is. I've been working on some decent instrumental demos to, at the very least, get the point across, but now I'm approaching a wall.
The music does not necessarily stick to one genre, but it's largely built on metal, particularly modern prog, with elements of EDM and harsh noise.
Influences include Primus, Extinction Level Event, Between the Buried and Me, Rage Against The Machine, Buckethead, and clipping, as well as various bass music producers.
Finally, some caveats: ideally, I would like to keep to three basses - left, right, and center - with no guitars, and each bass must be at least a five string. The tuning is mostly standard with some sections in drop A. All together, the band I see in my head is three basses, synths/DJ, drummer, and vocals. Speaking of vocals, I'm not at all confident in my ability to write or sing, but there is a story that I'd like to tell with the music.
If all of this sounds intriguing, please reach out, and I'll be happy to go into further detail and provide examples of my music. Thank you, and have a good one.
