2023.05.30 10:37 Xano2113 The Etherian Horde Would Be Responsible For Genocide From A Legal Perspective
When people think of genocide the things that come to mind are the execution of specific groups of people in concentration camps or forcefully sterilizing them. There is no evidence that the Etherian Horde did either of those things.
Of course the Horde has killed countless people and displaced many others in their campaign to take over Etheria but there is no evidence that those people were killed or displaced because of their race or species in this case. This is a necessary distinction otherwise it does not fit the criteria of genocide, although what the Horde did was still cruel and inhumane. Considering how diverse the Horde is, even more so than the Rebellion, this scenario seems even more unlikely. Forced sterilization towards anyone can also be crossed off the list as far as we know.
However the Horde would be responsible for genocide according to The 1948 Genocide Convention. Here is an important excerpt:
Article IIIn the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed withintent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, assuch:
(a) Killing members of the group;(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about itsphysical destruction in whole or in part;(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
In the show it is highly implied that characters like Lonnie, Kyle, Rogelio and many other cadets were orphans who were taken in by the Horde after their villages were raided by them to be raised as soldiers. According to section Article II Section e) of the 1948 Genocide Convention the Horde would be responsible for genocide since forcibly transferring children from one group to be raised by another can be seen as trying to erase their culture. Considering that the children were raised to be soldiers and fed propaganda to be loyal to the Horde, this would definitely be seen as cultural erasure.

2023.05.30 10:36 Most_Bookkeeper_4811 Tips to Prepare for Male Breast Reduction Surgery: A Comprehensive Guide
| https://preview.redd.it/mw7monhx1z2b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=173cfbdcdf86bdbd21cb2484f620f9562d303e3b Male breast reduction surgery, also known as gynecomastia surgery, is a procedure designed to reduce enlarged male breasts. If you're considering this surgery, it's essential to adequately prepare yourself both physically and mentally. In this blog post, we will provide you with a comprehensive guide on how to prepare for male breast reduction surgery, including tips to ensure a smooth and successful procedure. 1. Consultation and Communication Schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in male breast reduction, such as Dr. Vivek Kumar. During this initial meeting, openly discuss your concerns, expectations, and goals for the surgery. Be honest about your medical history, any medications you're taking, and any previous surgeries. Clear and open communication with your surgeon will help them understand your needs and develop a tailored treatment plan. 2. Quit Smoking and Avoid Certain Medications If you're a smoker, it's crucial to quit smoking at least a few weeks before the surgery. Smoking can increase the risk of complications and impair the healing process. Additionally, consult your surgeon about any medications or supplements you're taking, as some of them might need to be temporarily discontinued due to their potential effects on bleeding or anesthesia. 2023.05.30 10:36 sickpickless [F24] My partner [M25] is going away with his family for 20 days. I am having such a bad separation anxiety from it and it's really making my mood really down
This will be the first time my bf and I are not going to see each other for 20 days straight. It feels like a lot to take in because we meet each other once a week atleast and I've gotten so attached to him because I've been around him so much for 3 years. He is flying off tomorrow and because if our busy schedules we haven’t had a chance to meet before he goes. My separation anxiety has made me cry alot the past few days and I keep thinking how lonely I'm going to be. 20 days doesn’t seem like alot but at the same time it does. I know he will still be able to talk to me and stuff but there is sinking feeling that keeps lingering and I really don’t want to ruin his trip by being a baby. I did tell him abt how I feel and he assured me he will be back soon. Sigh I just wish I can fully occupy my time so it will go by in a blink of an eye.

2023.05.30 10:35 musicboxofsadness My birthday is tomorrow, and I won't be counting calories
This is a pretty big deal for me and something I've been both trying to coax myself into and talk myself out of depending on where I've been at with my disorder as of late. For the first time in 576 days, I won't be counting any calories. I counted my last birthday and looking back my memories of that time feel so tainted by the constant anxiety and not being fully present during the celebrations my friends and family threw for me because calories were always haunting my mind. I've bought a quater slice of chocolate cheesecake from The Cheesecake Shop and I'm planning to eat some of that as a special breakfast tomorrow. I've also been promising myself for months that I'd buy myself a can of Cherry Coke on my birthday, and I hope I can still stick to that plan and not end up skipping out on it. My Dad is taking me out to a place that does Cajun Creole to celebrate after uni, and I'm gonna really try not to think of the food as numbers. Fuck this disorder and how much it's taken from me, fuck that little demon voice that screams at me abusively everytime I don't eat perfectly enough for its liking, fuck MyFitnessPal and all the other calorie counting apps for the mental torment that they have enabled, fuck everyone in my life who has ever had anything unpleasant to say about my body, and most importantly, FUCK the sick society that straight up encouraged me to reach this point. I'm gonna order whatever the fuck I want at that restaurant, order a little bit of everything to get a bit of a flavour range, I might even have a glass of red wine alongside dinner. Hell, maybe I'll even get a DESSERT afterwards. I looked at the menu online and they have a classic American apple pie with ice cream or rich chocolate cake with cherry sauce, and both sound equally tempting.
I know I'll most definitely feel the guilt the day after, and I may even feel the guilt during the dinner itself. I don't care. I'm gonna try push it down and focus on the things that really matter. Maybe I'm being too cocky but I want my 22nd birthday to mean something goddamn it.
The only other thing I have to mention is that my doctor's appointment to discuss treatment plans and where to move forward with my ED is scheduled for the day after. I'm a bit concerned that they're going to want to weigh me and that the number that comes back won't be accurate because of water retention and food waste, and I don't want that to both trigger me and make it seem like I'm overexaggerating my suffering for attention, because even though I'll still be underweight I worry that I won't be underweight enough for them to take me seriously. I'm wondering if it would be possible to be able to politely decline if they ask to weigh me and instead give them my the average of all my weigh-ins for the past 2 weeks. I feel that'd be more accurate and doesn't allow for fluctuations to skew my doctor's perception. Has anyone on here had experience with this and can offer their 2 cents on the situation?

2023.05.30 10:33 shinbet Toxic beauty standards have destroyed my ability to respect myself
I (18M) just can’t seems to respect what I look like, these always something to fix, something I don’t like, I’m not obese or anything, with a shirt on my hight is my saving grace, without it, I’m way below average, I have blubber here and there but I just hate it, all of it. I lift 3 times a week and did so for 5 months, consistently with little results If any at all. I gave up on the looks, I just lift to say as useless as I am, I can still do this.
But unfortunately with the perception given by modern media and society and all that, my mind is trained to think that if I’m not Andrew Tate or whatever then I’m completely worthless ( of course I know this isn’t true and I don’t really care about Andrew tate, but he is shoved in everyone’s faces and such. Every piece of media makes you feel like you need to be perfect.
Why can’t we go back to the times when you if you were normal or average or whatever you could at least tolerate yourself as a person. The expectations are just crushing me because I’m now essentially subconsciously programmed to demand perfection and I hate it.
1 small break because of school schedule conflict, the summer breaking out, any small progress I made I wiped away, and now feel like shit. What the fuck was the point?
It’s all gone now, or it feels like it is.
How do accept it, I’m not gonna get any results if I was at it for 5 months with little to results.
I hate my physique, I hate my face, it doesn’t match my mind, I’m not trans or anything but I just hate my physical being.
I guess I lifted to make myself feel better. even still I’m deficient in other areas, I’m too retarded for university, fucked up my SAT, GPA etc… and I still got through high-school by the skin of my teeth when that is supposed to be easy
What the fuck went wrong with me, why can’t I just have one truly great but usable thing, I know all this technical crap in my head but can’t use it, I need a fucking degree, but most of the degrees are full of bullshit designed to waste your time.
I don’t know what to do, I hate my body, I hate my mind because I can’t use all the Information that I’ve gone and collected over the years about obscure topics that normal people don’t care about and I’m still incorrect or stupid according to the experts.
I can’t get any piece truly right
I’m just, mediocre
That’s my existence

2023.05.30 10:33 vikas_agrawal77 How to measure your brand equity? 6 time-tested approaches.
Brand equity is the value that a brand name adds to a product or service, beyond its functional benefits. It reflects how consumers perceive, feel, and behave towards a brand, and how loyal they are to it. Brand equity can be a source of competitive advantage, as it can influence customer satisfaction, retention, and advocacy.
There are different ways to measure brand equity, depending on the purpose and perspective of the measurement. Some of the common methods are:
Consumer perception surveys- These surveys ask consumers a series of questions about their awareness, recognition, recall, associations, preferences, and attitudes towards a brand. The answers can be analyzed to calculate metrics such as brand awareness, brand image, brand loyalty, and brand preference. These metrics can indicate how strong and favorable a brand’s position is in the minds of consumers.
Market research- This method involves collecting and analyzing data from the market to measure the actual behavior and outcomes of consumers towards a brand. The data can include sales volume, market share, price premiums, customer lifetime value, customer satisfaction, customer retention, customer referrals, customer advocacy, and word-of-mouth. These data can reveal how well a brand is performing in terms of attracting, satisfying, and retaining customers.
Brand awareness research- This technique specifically measures how well your customers know and recognize your brand name and logo, and how easily they can recall them when prompted by using market research techniques.
Financial analysis- This method involves estimating the financial value of a brand based on its expected future earnings and cash flows. The value can be calculated by using various approaches, such as the cost-based approach, the market-based approach, or the income-based approach. The value can also be compared to the value of similar brands or products in the market to assess the relative strength and performance of a brand.
Brand audits- Brand audits involve conducting a comprehensive and systematic evaluation of your brand’s identity, strategy, assets, communication, and performance across all touchpoints and channels.
Conversational brand analytics- This method uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to measure and optimize your brand’s presence and engagement on conversational platforms, such as chatbots, voice assistants, and messaging apps.
Each method has its own advantages and limitations, and they can complement each other to provide a comprehensive picture of brand equity. However, measuring brand equity is not a one-time exercise; it requires continuous monitoring and evaluation to track changes over time and across different segments and markets.
By measuring brand equity regularly, marketers can identify the sources and drivers of brand value, as well as the opportunities and challenges for improving it. Do have any points to add?

2023.05.30 10:30 DestroyatronMk8 The Privateer Chapter 119: Varma Award
First Previous Five thousand warships of the Vrrl Starfang Empire exited the Gate to Brilend Prime. The majority of the fleet was made up of battlecruisers and carriers, each built to resemble a stylized Vrrl in mid-leap. The fanged maws of the Vrrl warships were open, ready to unleash the devastating Ion Roarcannons the Empire was known for. Above each maw were three glowing green eyes, and four arms tipped with razor sharp claws stretched forth from the bodies of the beasts. Yvian knew from personal experience that the arms weren't just for show. They were fully articulate, and used to grab enemy ships in preparation for boarding actions. The back half of the ships were large rectangular blocks, bristling with weapons.
Yvian could only imagine the Military's panic at the sight of so many enemy ships. Vrrl ships were an order of magnitude more powerful than Confederation vessels. Even a small fleet of Vrrl battlecruisers could wipe out a sector, and they were famous for their love of sapient flesh. The Vrrl were nightmares in the Confed, second only to the humans. Even a Xill fleet could not have inspired more dread.
Yvian herself was sitting next to a control node on the
Skygem. Mims, Kilroy, and Scarrend were with her. The crystal ship was parked inside the
Priderender, Warmaster Scathach's ship. One of the handful of destroyers accompanying the fleet, the
Priderender was a six kilometers long diamond. One half of the diamond was much longer than the other, giving the ship a dagger like appearance. It's hull was the color of blood, and it boasted two Roarcannons and hundreds of other weapons.
It hadn't been that long since Yvian had been in the sector, but the Confed had been busy. Between the Militia and the Military, their were over twenty million ships in the system. Civilian craft were still fleeing, streams of ships heading for all three of Brilend Prime's Jumpgates. Those heading for the Gate the Vrrl fleet had jumped through were all scattering and reversing course.
Heavy weapons platforms had been set up throughout the sector. Missile towers were being towed into place, five kilometers around and stuffed to the brim with heavy ordinance. The Military were taking the Vore seriously. Not that it would do them any good.
Nearly a full frantic minute passed before anyone hailed the Priderender. The few thousand Militia ships that were stationed near the Gate were all fleeing. Four million of the closest Military ships had turned, moving to form up with each other so they could engage the Vrrl as a group. Yvian listened in as Warmaster Scathach answered the hail.
"Attention Vrrl ships. This is High Admiral Bruck of the Confederation Military. You are in violation of Confederation space. Leave now or be destroyed."
"This is Warmaster Skrell Scathach," the Warmaster answered. "Sheathe your claws, softpaw. We are not here for you." As he spoke, the Vrrl fleet plotted a course for deep space, in the direction of the incoming Sphere. "It is the Vore we have come to hunt."
"Leave now or be destroyed," the High Admiral repeated. It was a threat the Admiral could back up. The Vrrl fleet was a match for Confed force six times its size, but the Military had them outnumbered four thousand to one.
"We are leaving," the Warmaster told him. "We will exit your solar system in fourteen hours to meet the Vore in deep space."
"Your assistance is unnecessary." High Admiral Bruck spoke slowly, a menacing anger infusing his otherwise professional tone. "Leave our space now, or face the consequences."
"Consequences?" The Warmaster scoffed. "It is you who should consider the consequences, High Admiral Bruck. You do not have the forces or technology to destroy us."
"I've got twenty million ships that say different," Bruck argued.
"And how many of those can match our speed?" asked the Warmaster. "Your fastest capitol ships move at a third the speed of my slowest. Our weapons outrange yours." Skrell Scathach released a rumbling growl. "I'm only bothering to speak to you to keep you from wasting our time. We will hunt the Vore. If we succeed, your planet will be saved. If we fail, we will die." He softened his voice to a more reasonable tone. "I won't ask you to show your belly, softpaw, but I will give you a choice. Leave us to our hunt, and take the time to prepare for the greater enemy. We will avoid your ships and stations, and do all in our power to destroy the Vore." His voice was matter of fact, and scarier for it. "Or you can fight. We will still face the Vore, but we will do so leaving your shattered hulls and broken bodies in our wake."
"Is he bluffing?" Yvian wondered.
"He is the Warmaster." Scarrend said with obvious pride. "He doesn't need to bluff."
"Most of their forces are preparing-" Mims cut himself off as High Admiral Bruck gave his reply.
"Do you really think you can destroy that thing with just five thousand ships?"
"Our weapon has worked once before, High Admiral Bruck," the Warmaster told him. "But I can give no guarantees."
The High Admiral mulled that over. After a few seconds, he said. "Very well. We won't stop you. But if you come near my ships or my stations I will personally blow you out of the sky."
"Well spoken, High Admiral Bruck," Skell Scathach approved. "Perhaps your paws are not so soft after all."
The next twenty hours passed slowly. The Warmaster kept his word. The Vrrl fleet kept its distance from the Confed as it moved into deep space. Yvian slept as best she could. The
Skygem's living quarters had been furnished, but the ship's habit of filling itself with methane meant she couldn't remove her helmet and get comfortable.
When she stumbled back out onto the bridge, Mims stood. "My turn. Wake me if anything happens."
"There's no need for such distrust," Scarrend chided. "The Vrrl Starfang Empire honors its agreements."
"I have no way of confirming that," said the human.
"Trust is unnecessary," said Kilroy. "This unit is sufficient to prevent betrayal."
"Normally I'd agree with you." The Captain yawned. "But the Vrrl are just as resourceful as humans, and they know about you. It's possible they could come up with countermeasures."
"I wouldn't let them," said Scarrend. "I've sworn my life to yours."
"I told you I don't want it." Mims stood up and stretched. "To tell the truth, I'm pretty sure no one's going to try anything, but we're sitting in the only weapon we've got that can stop the Vore, along with two of the only three people capable of wielding it. Not to mention that Yvian and I are basically heads of state. A little paranoia seems like a good idea."
"Perhaps." Scarrend gave a thoughtful rumble. "I still think the fission bomb is excessive."
Yvian looked over at the bomb in question. It was a nuclear torpedo. Mims had rigged it to detonate by remote control. Yvian, Kilroy, and the human each carried a detonator. The human and the Peacekeeper seemed casual about it, but Yvian was still nervous about hers. What if it went off by mistake?
"Probably," the Captain admitted. "The bomb will destroy us, the
Skygem, and any pieces of it big enough to offer scientific value. It'll take out the
Priderender, too, but death threats are sort of wasted on your species."
"My species," huffed Scarrend, "has not broken a treaty once in our entire history."
"Your entire history is less than two hundred years," countered the human.
"Wait, what?" Yvian looked at the Vrrl. "Is that true?"
"You didn't know?" Scarrend cocked his head.
"That can't be right." Yvian tried to scratch the back of her head, but had to settle for scratching the back of her helmet. "How could a species achieve space flight in only two hundred years?"
"We didn't," said the Vrrl. "We took our technology from the gods themselves."
"The gods?"
"The Varma," Captain Mims clarified. He flopped back down in his chair. "The Vrrl are genetically programmed to treat them with respect and reverence."
"Genetically programmed?"
"The Vrrl didn't evolve naturally," said the Captain. "They were bioengineered." He looked over at Scarrend. "You mind if I tell her the story?"
"I suppose." Scarrend leaned back in his chair, folding his upper arms behind his head. "I'm curious to hear it from a human perspective."
"Alright." Mims yawned again. "The Varma were a minor power. They controlled six sectors, and they shared a border with three other species they hated. They sort of bordered the Federation, too, but it was two months travel from their space to ours, so we didn't really interact much."
"The other three nations hated each other just as much as they hated the Varma, so no one was willing to form an alliance, and no one was willing to commit to a total war knowing the other species would jump in and genocide their asses at the first opportunity. It was a stalemate that had lasted for centuries."
"The Grinjaw, the Yauwen, and the Holii," Scarrend provided. "Villains and weaklings, barely worthy of being called prey."
"If you say so." Mims moved on. "Anyway, the Varma weren't particularly advanced with ships and weaponry, but they were masters of bioengineering. Mostly because they never outlawed it like most sane species do."
"Isn't genetic manipulation a basic part of medical science?" Scarrend asked.
"Sure," said the Captain. "But experimenting to make new life forms is a whole other thing. Us humans made that mistake a couple of times, and almost got ourselves genocided. Now any attempt to make new creatures or 'enhanced humans' is met with immediate and overwhelming force."
"Huh," Yvian grunted. "I was taught that humans modified themselves a long time ago. That that's how you became such monsters."
"Propaganda," he told her shortly. "Anyway, the Varma decided to make themselves an army. They picked out the nastiest, scariest predators they could find, and modified the hell out of them. It took half a century, and a lot of horrific experimentation, but they eventually engineered their perfect soldiers. Hyper intelligent, hyper aggressive monsters with a pack mentality and a taste for sapient flesh."
"They designed you to eat intelligent life?" Yvian's eyebrows went up, even though no one would be able to see.
"They designed us to crave it," said Scarrend. He shrugged. "We can survive on animal flesh, but it is far less fulfilling. Similar to how you can subsist on water, but constantly yearn for beer."
"The Vrrl turned out to be a huge success," Mims continued. "Not only were they effective in combat, but they could breed rapidly, and their heightened intelligence led to a serious upgrade in weapons tech. In less than a decade, the Vrrl formed the backbone of the Varma Military. They spent the next twenty years or so hunting the other three species into extinction."
"We consumed the unworthy in the name of the gods," Scarrend agreed.
"Yeah." Mims ran a hand over the back of his neck. "Anyway, the Varma had just started consolidating their gains and taking possession of their three shiny new planets when everything went wrong. Some bigshot decided they didn't need a hundred million Vrrl army anymore. Tried to cull them down to a more manageable number."
"We still don't understand why the gods turned against us," Scarrend admitted. "We'd done everything they'd asked."
"Fear, maybe," guessed the human. "Or maybe they just didn't see you as people. You were a genetically engineered slave army, after all."
Scarrend growled.
"As you can imagine, the Vrrl didn't take kindly to being killed off, gods or no gods." The Captain moved on. "They fought back. The Varma had the upper hand, at first. They'd ordered the Vrrl off their ships before the killing started. The real problems didn't start until some of the Vrrl managed to commandeer a Military ship. They got blown out of the sky, but not before they could get a message out. The half of the Vrrl that weren't supposed to be killed were still out in the void, armed to the teeth and piloting the most advanced ships the Varma could muster. The message told them three things."
"The gods are killing us," Scarrend intoned. "The gods can die..."
"And the gods are fucking delicious," Mims finished for him. "We think it was a side effect of the genetic programming. Any Vrrl who tasted Varma flesh became instantly addicted. The war that followed was barely a war at all. It was more like a feeding frenzy."
"Our people's greatest mistake," Scarrend said mournfully. "My ancestors ate every single god with no thought of the future. Now they are gone, and no Vrrl will ever taste such succulence again."
"And that's why most species don't do bioengineering," the human finished. "Slave armies aren't a good idea in general. Designing them to be stronger and smarter than you is worse. But programming them to eat you?" Mims shook his head. "Ever since we got the story, humans use the phrase 'Varma award' to describe anyone too stupid to live."

2023.05.30 10:28 juliarenteria Equity Valuation Methods
| INTRODUCTION What makes private company valuations special is the ambiguity and room for independent evaluation that exists when compared to a publicly traded business. You’re operating with less current and historical data, lower transparency on future business performance, and the capital structure of the company may not be completely accessible. There’s also the question of accounting: private companies are not bound by traditional Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) regulations and enjoy a lack of strict reporting requirements. Typically, firms that have been taken over have a control premium attached (i.e. the acquiring entity pays over the odds to have a controlling stake in the company’s daily operations). Comparing a potential target to recent transactions can help account for any disparities due to the control premium and evaluate the target firm’s value from a better position. PRIVATE EQUITY VALUATION METHODS Most PE/VC firms estimate a company’s value with the help of Equity Valuation Methods. To evaluate an organization, there should be enough understanding of Venture Valuation, which is considered as the most holistic evaluation approach. All valuations are related to the careful consideration of both hard facts and soft aspects. And they are applied thorough risk assessment of the aspects such as: - Management
- Market
- Science and technology
- Financials/funding phase
To determine the private company valuations as accurately and objectively one use various assessment methods, which are mainly suited for the evaluation of technology firms, with more growth potential and start-ups of all kinds. Although not every kind of valuation method is appropriate, they vary as they assess every organization according to their industry and financing phase. The top Equity Valuation Methods are as follows: Equity Valuation Methods - Discounted Cash Flow Method To value a private business in the discounted cash flow method, a VC/ PE Firms must be serious about the acquisition, the target will likely disclose their books, but they still require to be audited to ensure accuracy. This is less commonly used as the primary barometer for private valuations due to the uncertainty of private companies’ financial statements. Private companies’ accounting statements may also include personal expenses along with business expenses in the case of smaller family-owned businesses and have unexplained gaps across the board. However, if the acquiring firm is able to determine accurate numbers for revenue and operating costs, taxes, and working capital historically, they an model these numbers out to a 5–10-year timeframe (depending on the length of the project) and then determine Free Cash Flow. Since the Free Cash Flow is representative of how much money the business has available to give back to shareholders, it is considered an accurate measure of a company’s fair value. The discount rate problem mentioned above also factors into calculating the company’s beta, which is the level of volatility associated with investing in the firm as opposed to the global equities market (typically, benchmark indices such as the S&P 500 are used for comparison).
- Comparable Company Analysis The goal of using comparable company analysis method is to search for other public businesses that share characteristics with the private firm. These characteristics include industry, margins, revenue/size, geographies in operation, and age. For an established business, this process is much easier. For example, SaaS businesses will have dozens of similar companies because the market has become extremely saturated in the last decade. Most SaaS businesses founded during the last decade are still-loss making, have high revenue growth, and have a high dollar-based net retention rate that compensates investors for the poor bottom line. In this scenario, for a PE/VC firm considering a buyout, the value lies in evaluating a discount in the company relative to other publicly traded businesses. To measure the discount, investors often calculate industry averages of different valuation multiples. Continuing with the SaaS example, these metrics can be traditional ones such as EV/EBITDA, EV/Revenue, and Free Cash Flow/Share or industry-specific metrics such as churn rate, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, and annual recurring revenue.
- Comparable Transaction Comp If a private company is trading at lower multiples to other public competitors while anticipating higher or equal revenue growth, it becomes an interesting investment this when comparable transaction comp comes into existence. If their market timing and execution strategies are right, a PE/VC firm can come in, buy this company out and make a profit through an IPO once the project’s timeline is complete. If the target firm operates in an industry with lots of recent notable transactions or IPOs, we can use information from those transactions to calculate a valuation. What separates the world’s best private envestor and helps them deliver high value to LPs consistently is that they factor in everything when valuing a company: any potential one-time events affecting valuation, quality of management, and alignment of the acquireacquiree’s goals, and finally whether the private company will be able to deliver a high return on invested capital. In volatile equities markets like today, LPs and Venture Capitalists may want to seek liquidity in their fund interests, so they need a higher rate of return to justify the investment. This is perhaps a reason why the volume of PE/VC funding has decreased in the last year; markets are uncertain about future prospects and are only seeking investments with either high conviction or minimal downside (ideally both).
- Asset-based Valuation Method The asset-based valuation method is used for considering the value of the assets and liabilities of a business. Under this method, the value of a business is equal to the difference between the value of all its relevant assets and the value of all its relevant liabilities. The advantage PE/VC firms hold over investing in public markets is in the timing. There is potential to make massive gains if these firms can time their entry into the private markets during a period of uncertainty and low valuations and exit into the public markets once bullish market sentiment has returned. Typically, industry averages can be used for calculations with a slight premium attached to account for higher cost of equity and debt (since investors have lack of liquidity with holding equity in a private firm, it is an intrinsically riskier investment).
- Sum of the Parts Valuation Method A conglomerate that has diversified business interests may need a different valuation model. In this method the valuation of each business is done separately and gets added up for the equity valuations. This valuation method is called a sum of parts valuation method. To evaluate beta, PE/VC firms either use industry averages and then unlevered or lever that number depending on what kind of beta was used and adjust that number accordingly based on the target’s credit history. It's often said that valuation is an art and not a science – and this is especially true for investing in the private markets. Our calculations are based purely on a series of assumptions and estimates and trusting the accounting processes of the target company.
- Risk adjusted NPV Risk adjusted NPV is a most common valuation method of valuing compounds or products in the industries like pharmaceutical and biotech. The risk adjusted net present value (NPV) private equity valuation method utilizes the similar principle as the DCF equity valuation method, except that each future cash flow is adjusted by risk to the probability of it actually occurring. The probability of the cash flow occurrence is also called as the ‘success rate’. The success rates of a certain compound/drug can be estimated, by comparing the probability that the compound/drug will pass the several different development phases (i.e. phases I, II or III) usually undertaken in the drug development process.
QUALITATIVE ISSUES WHILE CONDUCTING EQUITY VALUATION Equity valuation focuses on the estimation of the likelihood of an organization being a successful firm in the coming future. Though it is many times very difficult to build-up any model that can predict the success of any organization. For instance, the next-gen enterprises like Google and Facebook share almost none of the aspects that were present in behemoths enterprises such as Exxon, Wal-Mart or even Apple for that matter. There are a few questions that need to be addressed before a valuation exercise is done. These issues are not quantitative and won’t be available to seek direct application in the valuation report. These issues are mainly qualitative and indirectly influence the valuation. The most important qualitative issues are as follows: - Industry Analysis Industry analysis is very important; the new age organizations are always in the competition with one another to get a share of the same market. If an organization’s competitors become more powerful and efficient then it tends to lose out. In the current modern market, no innovation does not mean stagnation rather it is the end of the enterprise as more effective challengers will sooner or later keep you out of business. Hence, equity analysts try to strive deeper through industry journals and have an interest on the company that is conducting thorough research. They also take help from the Porter’s five forces model to gauge whether or not, the industry as a whole is losing its effectiveness to another industry.
- Strategy One more qualitative issue to be addressed is the organization’s strategic vision. Mainly the companies usually follow one of the three strategies. They will either try to be:
- Cost leaders i.e. organization that offers the product or service at the lowest price to the consumers. An example that can be considered as - Wal-Mart
- Innovators i.e. providers of high and top quality products and constantly build new and better products. An example that can be considered as - Apple
- Niche service providers i.e. providers of products and services for a very specific group of customers, whose requirements are well understood by them i.e. Harley Davidson motorcycles
- Each of these strategies needs a very different approach. For example, cost leadership needs superiority in the supply chain, innovation needs focus on research and development and niche services needs focus on customer relationship management. Equity Analysts must be aware of the strategy of an organization, their investments towards developing the capabilities needed to service this strategy and also the advancements that the competitors are making in this regard.
CONCLUSION The long timeline of private equity funds and VC investment means there is a lot of flexibility around waiting for the right market opportunity while improving operational quality that is not available in the public markets. Public companies are affected by general market momentum and volatility due to earnings releases and Federal Reserve Policy that can skew stock prices away from “reasonable valuations” and muddle investor sentiment. These risks don’t exist in the private markets, providing an opportunity to deliver a higher return to investors in the long run without traditional volatility concerns. 2023.05.30 10:27 xxsaramazingxx Caught my (35f) husband (35m) stealing my pain meds... This is the fourth time and I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I'm not even where to start, this is long I apologize in advance for errors, I'm on mobile...
Please bare with me as I have multiple chronic illnesses which cause my brain to be mushy 200% of the time... But I'll try to be as detailed as possible, I don't want to give too much away as this is a very serious issue and could get my husband in some serious trouble. Which he deserves to be in, BUT I'm currently waiting on a decision from social security disability so his full time employment means we have a home, food to eat and food for my 3 fur babies. He is supporting me and I do not have anything to fall back on in terms of support so I'm stuck still living with my husband.
The backstory: we've been together for almost ten years now, married for about 3. I have multiple slow progression painful chronic illnesses, I've been sick my whole life and he's taken on a huge responsibility being my partner... And I thought he accepted me for who I am not what I can offer. Mind you I'm not completely disabled, I'm able to do light housework, make his lunch for work, care for our pets and make simple dinners daily... So from chronic illness standards I'm doing pretty well for how progressed they are. Multiple of my illnesses causes severe pain so I take high dose pain meds to regulate myself on top of getting regular epidural steroid injections and ablations of the nerves in my spinal column to be able to walk. Back to the story, about 3 years into our relationship, the first time I noticed my meds were going missing I was on a low dose pain med called tramadol, he lied but eventually admitted to taking "a few". We moved forward but I had to hide my medication. The second time, fast forward a few years and we had moved into our new house. At this point I was taking lower dose Norco, but I was noticing I was light when I shouldn't have been. Confrontation again and I got a lock box. Third time I was spring cleaning and I found an empty checkbook full of my USED fentanyl patches, I had started using those due to not being able to keep my meds down completely. He had shaken them out of my sharps container then stored them away... Still not sure what he was going to do with them, it's basically skin cells by the time I take it off. I was ready to leave at this time but my parents had just moved 2 and a half hours away in a two bedroom small home. I had/have no where to go and no money to use to do anything about it... Things seemed fine for a couple years. The lock box was protecting my meds and things seemed ok... But I was still weary... Unfortunately my room in which I stored my lockbox got really cluttered due to many reasons so it became hard to use. Another part of me wanted to trust my husband. Stupid me, right?
Well to break down my dosage - I am prescribed a medium dose Norco 4x a day. Usually I only take 2-3 depending on pain and ration the rest in case of med shortage. But I was noticing my extra earrings were not as abundant as they should have been but I thought maybe I was taking a bit extra that month since it was winter. Due to recent medication shortages, my dose was increased but for 3x a day. Which I downgraded my dose to 2x a day to make sure I had extra as my pharmacy warned me they still can't get any in.
Come to the other day and I open my bottle to notice I only had a small handful... So I emptied the bottle and counted, i only had enough to take 2 a day for the next three days leaving me not only 3 Norco short for those days, but three days worth was completely gone... My heart sank because I knew what happened... I confronted my husband who lied about it at first but I asked him again and he finally admitted to taking "a few". I screamed at him for awhile before telling him to get out of my face and go to work, so he left. Sitting there I calculated not only did he steal about a months worth (1 a day) for May but he had to of stolen another two months worth during the previous months my meds weren't in the lock box... A MINIMUM of 90 Norco was taken from me when I absolutely needed them.
I wanted to file a police report that morning but was stopped by my mom who reminded me that I'm currently depending on him to survive. Only when social security goes through do I have any options of leaving... I currently pay about $315 a month on a student loan I'm not even able to use. It's not for not trying, I started working at the age of 14 but had to stop in 2020 due to multiple flare ups ending me up at 93 pounds plus in and out of the hospital on the regular.
Current situation, it's been 5 days, I asked him if he had anything to say to me at all, he said no. He still says I love you and tries to kiss me... I lean away in disgust... I'm disgusted with his audacity to take the medication that helps me be a person. I'm disgusted with myself that I do still love him but all feelings have been burned from his actions. It's obvious he has no respect for me and I'm not even sure if he married me because he loves me or if he just thought he'd have easy access to my medications for the rest of his life... Well my life. I feel obligated to continue my "wifely duties" such as making his lunch, picking up the house to the best of my abilities, make us dinner at night as he is the only one on the house so it's his, he's letting me stay despite my cold demeanor... Kinda keep the peace until I can figure a way out... It's selfish but so is he.
I do not have money to move on my own and I have to take my two large dogs and cat with me as he will neglect them, not intentionally, he has ADHD so he just forgets things. My parents said I could come up there but that means every doctors appointment I'm driving 5 hours both ways... And I have 5-7 a month. My best friend is in another state, my other bestie has 4 kids a husband and allergic to animals, 3rd friend lives with her aunt and uncle. I could crash at my brother's for a few days but not any longer... And my neighbor can't house my animals... That is my list of people, I have nobody else... Though who would want to roommate with someone who can't pay rent but can contribute to groceries, cook and light cleaning...
I'm not even sure why I'm posting... I'm very lost and confused. I've officially taken off my wedding band, I know I should file a report but he could lose his job which means he loses insurance meaning I lose insurance... I should leave him but I have nowhere to go... I told him the only way I'd even consider working on our relationship again is if he goes to therapy or rehab but he's said he'd go on the past just to not go or go once then never again...
My only plan I can think of is wait for social security to hopefully approve me then I can get my student loan waved, then I can look into low income apartments or housing... But who knows how long that's going to take, it's been in reconsideration since October of last year (22).
I'm gonna go potato now... Any helpful advice would be magical. Thank you

2023.05.30 10:27 HauntingPhotograph30 rate my chances of entering aussie dent
hello everyone! this is my first time posting on this subreddit so do pardon me if i made any mistakes here, im sitting for the ucat anz cycle in july and am gunning for UQ/Adelaide dentistry as an international student. I have mostly been using Medify Mocks and Practice banks and after doing about 10 mocks I have calculated my average score to be about 3011 with a B3 in SJT. I understand UQ calculates SJT marks into the overall score unlike Adelaide and I can’t seem to figure out how to raise the SJT band?? and I have seen quite a few online posts on Medify SJT questions not being a good reflection of the actual questions so I’m aiming to do better in my other sections to compensate for SJT…
currently my weakest section is AR by far (lagging by >150 marks) and i’m grinding questions to get used to the questions but i feel like the practice questions are a lot simpler than the AR mocks… I could be scoring 45/50 in practice and then 25/50 in the actual mocks :(
I understood last year’s UQ dentistry cut off was like 3779 for internationals?? I’m kind of anxious as I really really want to enter UQ (its my first choice) so if anyone could rate my chances please do and thank you in advance!
TLDR Q1: how to pull up SJT band Q2: AR practice questions difficulty varying from the mocks?? Which is more reflective of the actual UCAT? Q3: UQ dentistry UCAT cutoff for international students

2023.05.30 10:26 jimbowee "From James Bond to Game of Thrones – How Diana Rigg Became a Pop Culture Icon"
| https://preview.redd.it/9vvjpp2axy2b1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=f06cd1a1f4d2eee799a0bb21740246f304f0b7a1 "The Early Years: Childhood and Acting Beginnings" Diana Rigg's journey to becoming a pop culture icon started in her early years. She was born on July 20, 1938, in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England. Her father was a railway engineer and her mother was a homemaker. Rigg had an older brother Growing up, Rigg attended various schools including Fulneck Girls School in Pudsey and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. It was during her time at RADA that she discovered her passion for acting. Rigg's first professional acting role came when she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1959. She played various roles in productions of plays such as "The Taming of the Shrew." In 1965, Rigg landed her breakthrough role as Emma Peel in the British TV series "The Avengers." Rigg's education and training were instrumental to her success as an actress. She studied at prestigious institutions such as RADA and worked with reputable theatre companies like the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her dedication to honing her craft allowed her to excel both on stage and on screen. However, it wasn't just Rigg's training that made her stand out from other actresses of the time. As Emma Peel on "The Avengers," she became a feminist icon during an era when women were fighting for equal rights worldwide. The character challenged gender norms by being both intelligent and physically capable while still maintaining a sense of femininity. In addition to being a trailblazer for feminism during the '60s, Diana Rigg also had personal solid beliefs regarding gender roles. In interviews throughout her career, she spoke candidly about how women were often relegated to secondary roles or treated as objects rather than individuals with agency. Diana Rigg's early years and acting beginnings laid the foundation for her success as a pop culture icon. Her education, training, and breakout role as Emma Peel in "The Avengers" set the stage for her future successes in film, television, and theatre. Rigg's impact on pop culture would only grow from here as she continued to take on new challenges and push boundaries throughout her career. https://preview.redd.it/kfs6lfhyxy2b1.png?width=326&format=png&auto=webp&s=78f4146e735fd091748085347d799e2b41d360f6 "The Avengers: How Emma Peel Became a Feminist Icon" Diana Rigg was already an accomplished stage actress when she landed the role of Emma Peel in the British TV series "The Avengers" in 1965. However, it was her performance as this iconic character that put her on the map and cemented her status as a feminist icon. Emma Peel was unlike any other female character on television at that time. She was not just a sidekick or romantic interest for male characters; she was a fully realized action hero in her own right. She fought alongside her partner John Steed, played by Patrick Macnee, and often saved his life as much as he saved hers. Rigg brought a unique energy to the role of Emma Peel, blending intelligence, wit and sex appeal with martial arts skills and sharpshooting. Her portrayal inspired women all over the world to stand up for themselves and demand equality in all aspects of their lives. Rigg has often spoken about how important it was for her to play a strong female character like Emma Peel during this time period. In interviews, she discussed how women were still expected to be subservient and obedient to men in many areas of society at that time. By playing Emma Peel with such confidence and skill, Rigg hoped that she could help break down some of these gender barriers. "The Avengers" quickly became one of the most popular shows on British television during its run from 1961-1969. Fans loved its blend of espionage, humour and action, but it was Emma Peel who really captured their imaginations. The character's stylish outfits – including skin-tight catsuits – also helped make Rigg an instant fashion icon. But beyond just being an entertaining show with a cool lead character, "The Avengers" had real cultural significance. It challenged traditional gender roles by presenting a powerful woman who could hold her own against any man. Emma Peel was not just a pretty face; she was a complex and multi-dimensional character who could be vulnerable one moment and deadly the next. Rigg's performance as Emma Peel also paved the way for other female action heroes in popular culture. Characters like Buffy Summers, Sydney Bristow, and Katniss Everdeen would all follow in her footsteps decades later. The impact of Rigg's portrayal of Emma Peel can still be felt today in movies, TV shows and comics. https://preview.redd.it/r15xm199yy2b1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9f4d1e5ae60ad8d7f39f47f16f63a01cd69fb41 Game of Thrones: Olenna Tyrell Steals the Show Diana Rigg's late-career resurgence is largely thanks to her role as Olenna Tyrell in HBO's hit series Game of Thrones. As the matriarch of House Tyrell, Rigg brought wit, wisdom, and cunning to every scene she was in, stealing the show from many of her younger co-stars. Rigg was initially hesitant about taking on the role of Olenna Tyrell. She had never been a fantasy or science fiction fan and was unfamiliar with George R.R. Martin's books. However, she quickly became enamoured with both the character and the show itself. Olenna Tyrell is one of the most complex characters in Game of Thrones. She is fiercely protective of her family and will stop at nothing to secure their place in Westerosi society. Yet at the same time, she is also pragmatic and shrewd, willing to make alliances with anyone who can further her goals. Rigg brought all these qualities to life on screen. Her performance as Olenna was nuanced and layered, allowing viewers to see both her strength and vulnerability. Whether she was trading barbs with Cersei Lannister or imparting wisdom to her granddaughter Margaery, Rigg commanded attention in every scene she appeared in. It's no surprise that fans quickly fell in love with Olenna Tyrell. Her sharp tongue and biting wit made her an instant fan favourite, while Rigg's performance earned widespread critical acclaim. In fact, many critics credit Rigg with elevating what could have been a minor character into one of the show's most memorable figures. Rigg herself seemed surprised by how much people loved Olenna Tyrell. She once said in an interview that she had "no idea" why fans were so drawn to the character but speculated that it might be because "she says what we all wish we could say." Regardless of the reason for her popularity, there's no denying that Olenna Tyrell left a lasting impression on Game of Thrones. Her final scene, in which she reveals her role in Joffrey Baratheon's death and then drinks poison with a smile on her face, is one of the most iconic moments in the show's history. As for Rigg herself, she seemed to relish every moment of her time on Game of Thrones. In interviews, she spoke fondly of her co-stars and praised the show's production values. She even admitted to being a little starstruck when meeting some of the younger cast members. https://preview.redd.it/cyxgd43vyy2b1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=971eedaa327068540eacd1e926b3c08cfd4bb0f1 Legacy: Remembering Diana Rigg Diana Rigg was a true icon of pop culture. From her early beginnings in theatre to her breakout TV role as Emma Peel in "The Avengers," and her late-career resurgence as Olenna Tyrell in "Game of Thrones," she left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. Even after her passing, her legacy lives on. Rigg's impact on pop culture is undeniable. She was not only an incredibly talented actress but also a trailblazer for women's rights and representation in the industry. Her portrayal of Emma Peel, a strong and independent female character, became a symbol of female empowerment during the 1960s. Her performance as Olenna Tyrell brought a new level of complexity to the show, cementing her status as one of the series' most beloved characters. But what made Rigg truly special wasn't just her talent or iconic roles – it was also her spirit and personality off-screen. She was known for being fiercely independent, outspoken, and unapologetically herself. These qualities endeared her to fans all over the world, who saw Rigg as not just a great actress but also an inspiration. In this chapter, we'll take a closer look at Diana Rigg's life and career and examine why she remains such an enduring icon even after her passing. Rigg grew up in England with her family before discovering acting while attending school. She went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) before making her professional debut on stage in 1957. Over the years, she appeared in numerous plays both classic and contemporary while also making a name for herself on TV and film. But it was perhaps Rigg's work as Emma Peel that truly solidified her status as an icon. The character broke new ground when it came to female representation – she was smart, capable, and never relegated to the role of sidekick or love interest. Rigg's performance was a revelation, and it's no surprise that she remains a feminist icon to this day. Rigg's work on stage was equally impressive. She won a Tony Award for her performance in "Medea," and her appearances in plays like "Macbeth" and "Pygmalion" earned critical acclaim. Her versatility as an actress was unmatched, and she remained a fixture of British theatre even as her career took her to new heights in TV and film. Of course, Rigg's late-career resurgence as Olenna Tyrell in "Game of Thrones" brought her to a new generation of fans. Her performance as the cunning matriarch was one of the show's highlights, and it once again showcased Rigg's incredible talent for bringing complex characters to life. Even after her passing in 2020, Diana Rigg remains an important figure in pop culture. Her impact on feminism and representation can still be felt today, while her talent as an actress continues to inspire new generations of performers. She truly was – and is – an icon for the ages. submitted by jimbowee to ClassicPinups [link] [comments] |

2023.05.30 10:23 Ifingloveyounowleave New thoughts on S5E7 (A House Full of Extremely Lame Horses) and Zelda and Janusz and the Weissmans after finishing the series and rewatching s4
Okay, so I had seen a previous thread on this episode or one about the characters talking about the scenes where Janusz and Zelda come over for the pilot light and the bathroom and I couldn’t re-find it weeks later, so here’s a new thread with my thoughts.
In S4,E5 at the 9:18 mark there’s a scene in the kitchen where Rose is trying to turn on the stove and can’t. She asks Zelda for matches for the pilot light who says she saw some in Midge’s room. The phone starts ringing, Zelda leaves to get the matches, and Rose answers the phone. So, in S5,E7 the Zelda and Janusz scenes where Rose is screaming through the house that the stove is broken, then screams it’s the pilot light after Zelda tells her, then asks Zelda to answer the phone, come off as poor continuity (or writing) for the sake of a bit. Too, it seems like a lot that the carpets, entire bathroom and 2 floors below would flood from the tub. That means they leave like a 5 or 6 yo to tub alone, completely unchecked, then nobody goes in that bathroom for hours or notice the carpet being wet squishy.
But -hear me out here- I’d prefer to think it’s intentional to show the singleminded focus of the Weissmans and their missing Zelda. In S4E5 Rose’s matchmaking is still mostly a hobby, so she’s still largely a housewife. In S5E7 all of the Weissmans are heavily immersed in their respective careers, and with their schedules and general single-mindedness (except Abe, who’s a genius, so he can also fixate on the intelligence of Ethan, then Esther) maybe the kitchen and bathtub stuff is meant to show how all other knowledge that doesn’t pertain to their focus gets forgotten, and that they are all really never home and so absentminded about general things and tired that they didn’t notice such an extreme situation.
With that in mind, I could see a scene where Abe forgets how to be a professor, he could still math, but he would forget how to be in that environment after shifting his focus to theater and the arts. We see it with Rose when she’s doing the commercials and when we hear her business is doing terribly and Midge says her matchmaking means more to her than even her family. She won’t let go, even when it’s unreasonable to continue because can’t do anything else. That combo makes sense to me to explain how Midge getting to the top of her field means she was never going to be able to have space for her kids or partners; she learned it from her parents.
I also think them constantly calling Zelda could be meant to show how much they miss her, but have never had a friendship to just call her to hang out, so they keep coming up with useless things they need her for to spend time with her. And Zelda misses them too. Like she’s annoyed they are calling for dumb stuff she knows they know how to do (or at least used to), but she keeps coming and answering and calling (like we see in the final episode with her trying to call Rose, despite Janusz being mad) because she misses them too.
They also kinda turned Janusz into a jerk. Like I get that the Weissmans are calling for help incessantly, but an episode before Zelda and Janusz getting married he’s saying how helping with the kids is one of the great pleasures of his life and he’s happy to babysit. Then he’s mad at Zelda for possibly being on the phone with them in the final episode, to the point that she has to call from the bathroom. I get him not wanting her to work for free, but what if she wanted to keep working for them? And why would it matter if she wanted to help by repeatedly calling Rose for a big moment while she’s probably cooking and cleaning at home.
