2023.05.30 09:44 JoshAsdvgi THE CLEVER NUMSKULL

THE CLEVER NUMSKULL

THE CLEVER NUMSKULL
(MICMAC: Rand, Legends of the Micmacs, )

Three brothers lived together.
They had no sisters, and their mother was sick.
The youngest was supposed to be a silly fellow, and was always doing outrageous things. One day they killed a pig.
The two older brothers went to fetch salt, and told the youngest one to remain and watch the house, and take care of their mother and the pig.
They said they were going to salt down the pork, and keep it for the long days.
After they were gone, he went out and found some men at work, and told them that if there was a man there named Longdays, he had a pig for him.
One of them declared that that was his name; forthwith the pig was delivered to him, and he carried it off.
By and by the other brothers arrived, and wondered what had become of the pig.
"Why, Longdays has been here and taken it away!
Did not you say it was to be kept for Mr. Longdays?"
"Oh, you blockhead! we told you it was to be kept for ourselves when the days become long next summer."
Some time after this, Coolnajoo was sent to buy a horse.
He made the purchase, and brought the horse home.
But there was a long avenue, lined by trees and bushes, extending from the highway down to the house; and when he came to the head of this lane, he gravely told the horse that this was the road, and bade him go on directly to the house.
Saying this, he removed the halter; and the horse kicked up his heels and made for home. The boy arrived home, wondering at the stupidity of the horse; and on relating the case to his brothers, they wondered at his stupidity.
"You numskull!" they exclaimed, "you can never do anything right.
Why did you not ride him down the lane?" "Oh, I will do better next time," he promised.
So, as the old mother got no better, they sent him to find and bring home a woman to assist in nursing her and in taking care of the house.
He took his bridle and started.
He succeeded in his expedition, and the woman came with him all quiet and kindly till they reached the head of the lane; but there and then he made an attempt to put the bridle on her head, and assured her that she had to carry him on her back, and walk on all fours down to the house.
Persisting in his determination, the terrified woman screamed, broke from her persecutor, and ran.
Chopfallen and sad, he went into the house.
What was his trouble? they asked him.
"Why! I attempted to bring her home in the way you directed; but she screamed and tore away from me, and crying went back, as hard as she could go.--
"Oh, you abominable fool!" they exclaimed; "was that the way to treat a woman?
You should have taken her by the arm, and occasionally given her a kiss." "Ah, well!" he cried, "I shall know better next time."
The next time he was sent for a pig.
He led the pig all right until he came to the lane.
He then tried to make the pig walk on his hind legs; and when the terrified animal squealed and kicked, he attempted to conciliate it by kissing it; but he received such a return from the tusks of his captive as made the blood flow, and caused him to let go his grip,--and poor piggy went off home at the top of his speed.
Poor Coolnajoo returned crestfallen to his home, to relate his adventures, and to be blamed and lectured for the hundredth time for his outrageous stupidity.
His next expedition was for a tub of hog's-lard.
This he purchased; but on his way home he passed over a portion of road that was dried and cracked by the sun.
"Oh, my old grandfather!" he exclaimed, "what a terribly sore back you have got,--so naked and dry!
You shall have my lard for salve, and 1 will rub it on."
So saying, he began spreading the lard over the dry road; and when it was all gone, he went home.
"Why have you not brought the lard?"
"Oh, dear me! I came across a poor old man lying in the road with his back all sore and cracked; and I pitied him, and spread the lard over him."
To this the brothers made no objection until they ascertained the truth of the case; when another attempt was made to teach him a lesson, and with the usual success.
His sixth expedition was in quest of a quantity of needles.
These were purchased, but on his way home he passed a newly reaped field of grain.
He looked at the stubble, and perceived the holes in the top; he was sure that when the rain should fall, the water would fill all those holes, and concluded that it would be a very benevolent act to stop them up.
This would be a capital end to which to apply his needles.
So he opened the packages, and carefully placed one in every straw; and when the supply was exhausted, many remained undoctored.
"Alas, poor things!" he cried, "I cannot help you any more, as my stock is out."
So he went home without his needles.
Afterward he was sent for some red flannel.
Passing a graveyard on his way home, he looked at the crosses, and took them for poor old penitents kneeling in the cold with outstretched arms, and carefully tore up his roll of red flannel and covered their poor shivering shoulders.
After this the two other brothers went together to town to make some purchases, and left him to take care of the sick mother.
They charged him to give her drink, and especially to wash her face.
He obeyed the directions, but supposed he must wash her face as he had seen her wash clothes,--by thrusting them into boiling water.
So he set on the great pot; and when the water was boiling, he took up the old woman and thrust her head into it, and held her there.
When he took her out, she was dead, and her lips were contracted to a grin, which he affected to mistake for laughter'. and placed her back in the bed, and leaped and laughed at her quiet and pleasant countenance.
He ran to meet his brothers, and told them that their mother had not been so quiet nor looked so well this long time.
She had not stirred nor spoken, and she was laughing all the time.
They went in, and were horror-stricken. "Oh, you outrageous simpleton! what have you done?
You have killed your mother.
We shall all be executed for murder."
But now Coolnajoo began to exhibit his shrewdness, and soon became as clever as he had hitherto been simple.
"Never you fear," said he; "we will turn the incident to good account, we will make some money out of it.
Wait you here; I will run for the priest."
So off he ran posthaste, and informed the priest that his mother was dying, and requested him to come with all haste, to perform over her the indispensable rite of extreme unction. The priest started immediately; but Coolnajoo outran him, and took his dead mother and placed her against the door, inside.
The priest reached the house, burst the door open, and tumbled the old woman over. Coolnajoo sprang to raise her.
Alas! she was dead. "Oh!" he exclaimed, wringing his hands and weeping, "you have killed our mother!"
All three gathered round, and the horrified priest did not know what to do.
They threatened to accuse him of the murder.
He finally succeeded in pacifying them, and gave them a whole handful of money to hush up the matter and say nothing about it.
The development of his shrewdness proceeded.
The two other brothers went away one day, and left the place in his charge.
Among other occupations he had to tend the pigs.
These he sold; but in order to cheat his brothers, he cut off their tails and took them down to a quagmire near the shore, and stuck them all up in the sand.
When they came back and inquired for the pigs, he told them they had broken out of the pen and rushed down toward the shore, and had sunk in the quagmire.
They went down to see; and sure enough, there they all were, just the tips of their tails sticking above the ground.
They seized hold of the tails, and tried to draw up the porkers; but the tails broke, and down into the mire sank the bodies, as they believed, and could not be found.
Soon his pranks became unbearable, and the brothers resolved to make away with him. They concluded to drown him.
So they tied him up in a bag, and took him down below high water mark and buried him,--not deep, however,--and left him to be drowned when the tide came in.
They returned; and he soon heard the "Uh! uh! uh!" of a drove of hogs, and called lustily for them to come to his aid.
If they would uncover and untie him, he would lead them to a place where they could feast on chickweed to their hearts' content.
The hogs, attracted by the noise, approached the spot.
Their noses were soon thrust deep into the soft earth.
The bag was soon reached, and instinct alone was sufficient to pull it out; and they soon removed the string,--when up jumped Coolnajoo, who seized one of his deliverers, transferred him to the bag, and the bag to the hole, drove the others away to the field of chickweed, where they were kept busy till the tide returned and covered the spot where he was supposed to lie.
In due time the tide receded, and compunction returned to the brothers' hearts; they repaired to the spot and dug up the bag, mournfully chanting, "Our poor brother is dead." Astonishment seized them when, on opening the bag, there, instead of the brother's corpse, was a dead pig.
Meanwhile Coolnajoo had waited at a distance from the spot until his brothers went down to the shore to look for him.
When they returned, he was astride the ridge-pole, laughing at them.
They made another attempt to kill him.
This time they planned better; they would take him to a waterfall and toss him in above, and let him be dashed to pieces in going over the rapids.
So they tied him up in a bag again, placed it across a pole, and started for the waterfall.
They became hungry on the way, and placed him by the side of the road, and went to get some dinner.
While they were gone, a drover came by; and seeing the bag, he went up and gave it a kick. "Halloa!" he exclaimed, "what is all this?"
Coolnajoo replied, and informed the drover that he and his brothers were on a money-hunting expedition; concealed in this bag, so as not to excite suspicion, he was to be taken to a certain place where they would all make their fortunes.
He gave such a glowing account of the matter, and with such apparent truthfulness and sincerity, that the drover was deceived, and offered him a whole drove of cattle and sheep for his chance in the money-hunting speculation.
The bargain was struck, and the parties exchanged places.
But Coolnajoo gave his substitute some cautions:
"You must be cautious not to speak, or the cheat will be discovered; my brothers must not mistrust that it is not I.
By and by you will hear the roar of a waterfall; do not be frightened.
Before lowering you to the place where you are to find the money, they may give you two or three swings.
You must keep still, and not speak; and after that you can have it all your own way."
So saying, he went on to the market with the drove.
The brothers came back to the bag. "Are you there?" they asked.
No answer.
But they saw that all was right, placed the bag on the pole, the pole on their shoulders, and moved on.
When they came to the waterfall, they approached as near as they could, and then gave him three swings in order to send him as far out as possible; and just as they let go, the terrified man sang out.
They were startled at the voice; it sounded like a stranger's voice.
They returned home, and shortly after their brother arrived with his pockets full of money,--the proceeds of his drove of cattle and sheep.
So they concluded to share the spoil and remain together.
But one night a band of robbers was seen advancing upon them, and they ran for their lives. Coolnajoo was the last to leave the house and the others told him to "bring the door to after him,"--meaning, of course, that he shall shut the door.
He obeyed to the letter,--took the door off the hinges, and carefully brought it after him. They made for the woods, and took shelter in a tree,--Coolnajoo dragging the door up after him, and holding it carefully all the while.
The robbers came up to the same tree, kindled a fire under it, cooked and ate their dinner, and then began counting and dividing their gold.
While this process was going on, Coolnajoo got tired of holding the door, and dropped it down among them.
It fell with a noise that terrified the robbers, who supposed that it had fallen from the sky; so they ran off as fast as their legs could carry them, and left everything behind,--gold, food, and dishes.
Down scrambled our heroes, and gathered all up and ran; finally they came to a house, where they remained all night.
They divided the money; but Coolnajoo claimed the largest share, as he declared that it was through his efforts that it had been obtained.
The next night they called and stayed all night at another strange house.
Coolnajoo became thirsty, and hunted around for a drink.
Feeling carelessly about, he thrust his two hands into a pitcher, and could not withdraw them.
He went out-of-doors, and looked around for something to strike the pitcher against, in order to break it.
At length he saw what seemed in the darkness to be a white rock.
He gave the pitcher a smart blow in order to free his hands; when, alas! he had struck a young woman in the head, and killed her with the blow.
At the sight of what he had done, he was terribly frightened, and called up his brothers.
He told them what had happened, and proposed immediate flight.
They all departed; and his brothers, fearing that Coolnajoo would ultimately get them into difficulties from which they would be unable to extricate themselves, separated from him. By mutual consent the partnership was dissolved.
They went each his own way.
Coolnajoo was bent on making money, and an opportunity occurred soon.
He kept his eye on the robbers, and saw them going out to bury a dead child; he watched to see where they deposited the body, and also followed them unseen to their retreat.
When night came, he took up the corpse they had buried, and went up to their house.
The window was open, and he looked in; they were busy counting and dividing their ill-gotten booty.
Piles of money covered the table, and he heard all the accounts of their expeditions.
All at once he sent the dead baby flying in among them,--which so frightened them that they took to their heels and left all behind.
He leaped in, gathered all the money, and left for home.
He now determined to settle, and to this end built a small house.
One day a heavy rain-storm came on; and just at nightfall two weary priests, wet to the skin, called and requested a night's lodging.
This he refused, as he had no accommodations for strangers.
They pleaded hard, and offered him a large reward; this he accepted, and kept them until morning, but managed to exact a still further contribution from them before their departure.

2023.05.30 09:35 NinjaGalNikka BF(32M) wanted the "competitive toxic gamer me"(34F) back but it feels like I'm going to undo my growth (tempering my temper)

So context, when I was younger (in my 20s) super toxic akong gamer. Like Warcraft3 dota, counter, etc, trashtalk on yan. And overall I think medyo skilled naman ako... Better than you average scrubs. Pero sobrang toxic ako pag natatalo. Salty af. Demeans my then bfs (syempre ex na ngayon) for being noob..May iniwan nga akong guy kasi sobrang hindi ako naimpress sa gaming and programming prowess niya and we were overall in diff stages of life. He wants to settle down, I was a fresh grad (6 years aga gap). Anyway that's another story.
Pero anyway current BF said preference niya na gamer SO na mas magaling sa kanya. Gamer SO ggez yun naman talaga ako ever since so okay naman tong part na to. And now, don't get me wrong siguro I'm still pretty competitive naman sa board games, dota, mtg, etc. And I do beat him sometimes esp in some games pero overall mas magaling naman siya (kaya ko nga jinowa e) pero ayun I've had time to mature and take out some of my edge. I mellowed out. Maybe I've grown older and realized it's tiring to be always be try-hard. And so many people have told me na they liked me better now when I'm more mature and less toxic pag kalaro.
Note: Kilala niya naman ako for years na and siguro hindi man peak toxicity levels nun naging friends kami, I don't think he's seen the me at my worst. Though maybe naparamdam ko na sa kanya when I uninvited him to my game group dati kasi nainis ako sa kanya (🤣 yes I'm very immature back then and I had the power to kick him out, di ko alam bakit ako jinowa nito years later). Also we're friends for 7/8 years? In a relationship for just 5 months palang 🤣
My biggest fear is my old toxic self will come out if I bring back this passionate drive to win. Sobrang pikon and asar talo talaga eh. Edi syempre inaanticipate ko nang mag-aaway kami kasi nga pala-away ako pag nasa ganitong mindset e. Mostly me building up resentment and maybe he might start to hate me too. He said it's just a preference and he's like okay with how I am now but alam mo yon now that I know... There's a niggling feeling at the back of my mind to bring back my tryhard mindset and see how it goes. Pero nasasayang naman ako if maging cause siya ng breakup.
Kumbaga gusto ko sabihan, be careful of what you wish for?
And isn't this undoing years of tempering my temper?
What do?

2023.05.30 09:20 CrankyCockatiel AITA for wanting my friend and roommate to move out even though I offered to let him stay to begin with?

In 2021 I (32F) invited a friend of mine (32M) to stay with me. I was in a similar situation as him: still living with parents and wanting to move out, but there were no decent jobs in the area, and I wanted to help him. I told him he can help with rent, get a job, even some training or education to help get that job, and then get his own place. He agreed.
He's a good roommate. He has gotten a job and pays his share of the rent ($450 out of the $950/mo), cleans up after himself, replaces what he uses, and takes out the trash. He provides his own meals. I haven't asked him to pay for the electricity or internet. He has been living with me for a year and a half.
The problem is that I really want my space and privacy back, but he seems way too comfortable staying here and isn't doing anything to prepare himself to move out. We're not a couple, and I want to be able to be completely free in my own space again. He works the 3rd shift (4pm to 4am, $13/hr) and gets Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off. When he's not working, he's either sleeping or playing video games. I've sent him links to cheap apartments ($900/mo) in the area and he told me he couldn't afford them. I got angry with him because I figured that after a year and a half he should have a decent amount of money saved up to cover a few months' rent. I was also able to afford my apartment at that price while making less money than him. I had to really tighten my belt, but I did it.
He hasn't told me what he plans to do in regards to being unable to afford an apartment. They're not going to get any cheaper. He told me that he would "like" to take some classes, but so far he hasn't done anything in regards to that.
At the beginning of this year, I told him that I really need my space back and that it's my expectation for him to be moved out by the end of this year. I'm willing to even push it to March next year as I don't want to be cruel and boot him out during the holidays. As this year is almost halfway done, I plan to talk to him again. I believe two years should be plenty of time to get a job with a livable wage, build a savings, and find his own place. I'm really trying to not let my frustration get the best of me, but I'm at the point where I can't look at my friend without feeling resentment.
At the same time, I feel guilty because it was my idea for him to stay with me to begin with, even though I told him beforehand that the goal was for him to eventually have his own place, and he definitely isn't a terrible roommate all things considered. AITA?

2023.05.30 09:17 lem0n-_- All this cheating-posting is slowly getting to me

TW: cheating, mental health

Don't get me wrong, I love drama, especially when it's about people na akala mo matino. Pero coming from a manipulative and toxic relationship with someone who cheated on me three times in just two years, I'm now just starting to realize how fucked up it's made me today. All of the little things na akala mo all in your head lang or overthinking almost always turn out to be not just true, but also something bigger and worse. I'm in a new and happy relationship now, pero it's these times talaga na I feel so bad for myself and my SO because I'd have a tendency to be suspicious of everything kahit wala namang dahilan. I know my SO is a good person. I know they wouldn't hurt me like I was before. I know they wouldn't cheat on me. Pero minsan talaga, especially now na sunod-sunod naeexpose ang mga cheater (good for them), sumasabay din yung anxieties ko towards my own and nakakapagod na lang tbh. The mere fact na the topic of cheating is now considered a trigger warning because of how many people it has traumatized is so fucked up.
I don't wish for someone else to cheat on them and ruin their mental health, I just wish they don't hurt more innocent people who just want to love and care for them genuinely.

2023.05.30 08:55 Bidasari Too scared to go home.

Backstory: This happened more than a decade ago.
I took up BS Nursing. Bukod pa sa ibang important requirements for graduation, my College also required us to complete 5 major and minor surgeries + 10 deliveries (5 assist, 5 handles). It's twice as much compared sa hinihingi ng PRC noon bilang requirement naman nila for board exam. Considering the boom of nursing dati, hindi kami na-circulate ng maayos sa mga surgery & delivery rooms sa sobrang dami ng students. Tapos may politics and pasipsipan pa.
After that, kailangan pa namin gumawa ng handwritten care plans at surgical post-op notes na ipapa-questioning for approval sa mga C.I. Additionally, if you cannot answer their questions or may kulang sa notes mo, kailangan mo pang ulitin yon at magpa-requestioning until umapprove sila at pumirma sa notes and handbook namin.
2 days before graduation, doon ko na nga binayaran yung class pin & ring, yearbook, gala uniform and TOR for clearance purposes. Dito ko rin nalaman na hindi pwedeng i-release yung TOR ko dahil hinold ng isang minor subject yung grade ko. My Prof's reason is di raw ako nagpasa ng project. Truth is, my group was one of the earliest to submit. Hinabol pa nga namin sya kasi naiwan nya mga projects namin sa isang armchair kakamadali nya because may class din sya sa other university. The next day, I received a call from my group na inadmit ni Prof. na na-misplace or naiwala nya (yata?) pero wala na akong balita after if ni-release nga ba nya yung grade ko because of the thing that happened next.
A day before our graduation march, madaling araw pa lang nasa lying in clinic ako para macomplete yung 2 delivery handles na kulang ko. Tapos, after lunch, lumipat sa public hospital for 1 CS surgery.
Because of this chaos, walang kalahati sa buong census namin ang nag-march noong graduation at ang daming nagprotestang parents.
I was very stressed and depressed that night pero yung text ng Mama ko?
I was again berated until they left for work. Doon ako nag-impake ng kaunting gamit at lumayas. Tinago ako ng friend ko at tinulungang ipasok sa call center. Nang makaipon, I flew to Manila because I did not feel safe.
It's been a decade and everything still feels like yesterday. I did not contact anyone from my fam. Ni hindi ako nag-appear sa school to get my credentials before leaving dahil binantaan ako ni Mama noon thru FB message na papatayin daw ako ni Papa pag nahanap ako.
Now, I'm planning to quit the corporate world and try VA sana kaso need nila ng credentials ko. My college doesn't allow online processing and I'm too scared to go back.

Screen stuck red for 2/3 players? (pic & modlist included)
Hello peoples~ me and my parents are new to this modpack and while it's been super fun to play, we encountered a weird problem that tbh we have no idea how to fix. Our friend rented a server and didn't add or change anything in this pack so everything in the mods and all that are 100% as-is. Me and my mom are the only ones having this issue, my dad however is not: we were attacked by an SCP/ the doppelgänger one that infects you, kills you and the double appears (it attacked me while I was afk and mom killed it,) but ever since our screens have been stuck with a red tint like this:

Now that's everything leading up to our screens being turned red. I read somewhere that tinkers -can- cause this, but we've not touched anything with tinkers in this pack and I'm assuming it's client-side cause it's only affecting me and my mom and not my dad. My friend renting the server has no clue how to fix this so I figure reddit would be the best place to inquire! So far we have tried to fix it ourselves by:
Waiting to see if the blood moon would turn the screen red and void the other red (it did not, as the screenshot is during complete day-time)
Dying to see if it would reset.
Disconnecting entirely.
Waiting for server-reset.
Porting around the map.
Made sure we do NOT have any resource packs enabled (there is only one that the mods came with but we didn't enable it ever.)
& I have (and am currently) going through each and every mod to see if there's a config so we can just turn it off by any chance
We'd really like to find a fix because we were going to have some friends come on the server soon and play and if this bug happens to them we wanna make sure there's a fix or possible solution(s). Any help would be great, and forgive me I'm really new to this sub when it comes to posting, so if this is the wrong place to ask I'm incredibly sorry and any suggestions to post elsewhere I will gladly listen to. The mod list is here if this helps!

2023.05.30 08:43 CloutWithdrawal Solo Trip Report - 4 Days in CDMX

Introduction: Mexico City has been a recent interest of mine ever since the YouTube algorithm started recommending me videos on this mega city. Like most Americans, I was ignorant and incorrectly under the assumption that Mexico City was sketchy and had nothing to offer for travelers other than poverty tourism. However, after watching YouTube videos and reading more about this city, I quickly learned that Mexico City, and Mexico in general, has a very rich culture and history. It also is the biggest city in the Western Hemisphere. I was locked in this point to explore this city so close to home.Booking this trip was very random, I originally booked a vacation to go to EDC Vegas with friends (insanely fun time btw) but I wanted to extend my PTO for the rest of the week after because I was already taking a day off to rest and had the Friday off for MDW.
After exploring other options in the US like possibly other areas in the south west like Utah or Arizona I quickly realized how expensive this would be. Vegas has great prices on flights so I wanted to take advantage of that and go somewhere international, due to my recent interest with Mexico City and how it isn’t too expensive, it just made sense. I booked the flight and hotel instantly so I wouldn’t think too much about it.
I invited some other friends at first and received some maybes, ultimately I knew that this would end up being a solo trip. I have some experience with solo trips, my first one was Hiroshima while I was studying abroad in Tokyo, that trip gave me my first powerful global experience that has ultimately became my goal when i travel now. I also did Denver last summer to see a red rocks show ( stayed in a hostel which ended up being the same price as a decent hotel in CDMX 🤣). I didn’t have much of a structured plan for this trip except to see the historic district and maybe teohiucan if it wasn’t too difficult to get there.
Logistics: I stayed in a Roma Norte hotel from Tuesday Night - Sunday Morning.
Interests: architecture, food, electronic music, nature, history
Day 1: Arrival
I arrived into CDMX around 1045pm via Volaris. The Volaris experience sucks, honestly worse than Spirit lol. For about an hour we were sitting on the runway not moving without AC in the Vegas heat. Apparently this is due to them not having runway rights? Not sure about this but that’s what some googling told me.
For some reason I exchanged usd for pesos at the cash exchange counters instead of using an atm to take out pesos. Not sure why I did because I have travelled internationally and know that ATMs are usually the best options. Whatever, I just took the L there. I called an Uber to my hotel after rejecting many taxi drivers.
I arrived to my hotel hungry and looked for open places to eat that were close to the hotel. I did not want to walk too far as I heard that night time gets sketchy. I ended up finding a taco place right across the street from my hotel so I went there. The place was called Taquería LOS HUARACHINES (ROMA). Ordering was a bit tough due to the language barrier but I got 2 Al pastor tacos, a plate of carne asada with about 5 tortilla, and a Coca Cola. This was an amazing meal and exactly what I wanted. The Al pastor was incredibly juicy and probably were the best tacos I had in my life at this point. I’m currently based in Texas so I’ve had real tacos before but these were just something else. I walked back to my hotel and quickly went to bed.
Day 2: Roma Norte & La Condesa
I had no official plans for this day. I was still tired from EDC Vegas so I woke up pretty late and didn’t get out of the hotel until around 1130-12. Once I did get out, I originally just planned to walk around neighborhood and see what piqued my interest. I started with a coffee. I got an iced coffee as it was hot out, I don’t think iced coffee is a thing anywhere else besides the US so this was also a little harder to order due to language barrier. Luckily someone spoke English at the counter and helped me order.
I began to walk north, I stopped at plaza rio de janiero to smoke a cigarette (I’m not a regular smoker except on vacation and when I go to raves lol). Very cool spot. My first impression of the Roma Norte neighborhood was that it was a nicer, greener, cleaner version of nyc with a European flair.
Next, I ended up at I believe Zona Rosa? It was a pedestrian only area with a lot of shops and restaurants. I stopped in a few shops maybe looking to buy sunglasses or a shirt but ultimately did not. I continued my walk.
I saw there was some sort of park near me called Bosque de Chapultec. I decided that would be my next destination to walk to. I passed the el Angel de la indepencia which was very impressive. I finally got to the park and was wowed by how nice it was. I didn’t know it was such a big destination until I got there and saw there a bunch of museos and vendors set up. I bought a pair of sunglasses as it was bright out and walked around a bit to take it in. Finally, I decided to check out a museum. I chose Museo de Arte Moderno as I wanted to see some art. I much prefer modern art over traditional art too. I really liked this museum and connected with a lot more paintings that I thought I would. About of 1/4 of the way through I realized can use Google translate to read the descriptions for some of the paintings. I wish I took down the artists who created some of these paintings but I think I can find the artists again if I really wanted to.
I went outside to the sculpture garden and this was a little underwhelming tbh. I was also getting hangry so I went through it quick. I decided to get lunch at Los Pancheros as it was nearby and the Google reviews seemed good. I ordered Plato rachero & caldo xochitl. HUGE portions and incredibly good. I really liked the soup though, it was some sort of chicken and rice soup. It took a little bit for the check to come but it finally did and I paid and left.
I ate way too much and I had to lay down somewhere so I went back to the park and found a nice place to lay where other people were. It was some sort of fountain that I can’t find on Google maps but even though it wasn’t exactly “grand” it was very chill and everyone there just seemed relaxed lol. I laid there for about 20-30 mins until I was ready to go again. I saw on Google maps that there was a castle in the park!? I really wanted to see that. I decided to walk in that direction and also passed Lago de Chapultec. Wow that was beautiful, I wish I took my rest time there lol.
I finally got to the castle entrance but they weren’t letting people in anymore as it was too late, damn. I should’ve paid more attention to the times, I didn’t realize all the museums closed at 5. I decided to finish up my park experience and Uber to the historic center just to check it out. However Ubers were very hard to get at this time as it was rush hour and traffic was insane outside the park. I had multiple people cancel on me, I also canceled on someone after seeing how long it would take to pick me up and drop me off to the historic center. I eventually decided just to walk back. It was about an hour walk back so I had to tough it out.
Not much happened on this walk, just continued to take in the city. Stopped at glorieta de Los insugentes to take a break and smoke a cigarette. I felt a little sketched out here due to all the people constantly moving. I was a bit worried about being pick pocketed but I think it was just the tiredness making me anxious. I got out of there relatively quick and made it back to my hotel to rest before dinner.
At this point I decided I wanted to go to teohiucan the next day. I explored my options for getting there and eventually just decided on Uber because I don’t really like being in a group when going to tourist sites as I’m a bit “quirky” and like to take weird routes and repeat some areas a few times I also keep an inconsistent pace so that made the group experience out of the question. I could’ve taken the bus but did not want to deal with the stress that public transit can be in a foreign country lol. For dinner, I made a reservation at the sushi place Makoto as I wanted something other than Mexican food. Fabulous place, I ordered a glass of wine, sushi sampler, and the fatty tuna nigiri.
Day 2: Teohiucan
I woke up somewhat early for this day. I ordered an Uber and was off. It was really interesting to see Mexico City outside the nicer neighborhoods. I think this is what most Americans imagine when they hear Mexico City. It looked like the COD MW2 map Favela. I wondered what life was like in this area of Mexico City. I even saw a ski lift in use to bring people up the mountain to their house maybe?
I got dropped off at Teohiucan and entered in. I skipped breakfast because I assumed they would have something there. I was half right, they had some convenient stores. I just bought a pack of crackers and a electrolit and hoped that would get me through the whole time I was there lol.I walked around all the pyramids, I was hoping to climb them but I saw they were closed for climbing, honestly a good thing, I imagine they were getting a lot of wear and tear from that. I feel like these pyramids are underrated in terms of world wonders. They’re pretty big and the city itself was apparently one of the biggest cities in the world at the time.
My favorite part about this visit was this path that you can take that allowed you to walk on the outside of the main path. It was super peaceful and you got to see the pyramids at different angles with no people around. In terms of my favorite structure, I liked the citadel a lot due to the intricate designs on it. Some random things I liked there were the jardin and the things the vendors were selling that made the animal noises 😂 I thought it was hilarious how everyone was basically spamming it in chat. I should’ve bought one looking back
I was a little anxious about getting an Uber back but I got one relatively quick and got back to my hotel. When I got back I was very hungry and I found this place near my hotel with a deal that gave 5 al pastor tacos and a cervesa for $100 pesos. Amazing deal but then I saw the al pastor looked like it was dry and has been out for awhile. Unfortunately i felt too awkward to leave after sitting, a mistake that I learned from later if you keep reading. However the tacos were still decent. I was still pretty hungry and found a street vendor selling hamburgers, I ordered con queso and it was insanely good. I ate it in a park and then got some churros from Churrería El Moro which were also good.Again I was way too full and had to lie down. I went back to my hotel and took a nap.
When I woke up I was still full but I started experiencing the first signs of montezumas revenge. However it didn’t seem that bad and I wanted to go out for a rooftop drink. I went to Supra Roma. Great vibe. I had to stand by the bar the whole time due to not having reservations but the views were fantastic and the dj was decent too. She was playing house music. I definitely want to bring my friends here if they ever want to come to cdmx. I had 1 cocktail and 2 beers there. Was thinking about talking to people there but mostly everyone was speaking Spanish so I decided not to.
I left and was gonna call it an early night but heard some more house music being played across the street at departmento. I decided why not and paid the cover to check it out. It was ok. Dj was decent but the vibe seemed kind of “basic” other than the music. Nothing too unique about this place, just a terrace playing music with young people hanging out. I had 2 drinks and left and got a torta. I made it back to my hotel around 12am and this when things started to go south unfortunately. Montezumas revenge came back and this time even stronger than earlier. The alcohol definitely did not help. It quickly kept getting worse in terms of cramping and the ability to not go to the bathroom for more than 20 mins. I think it was the Al pastor tacos from earlier today. I did not get much sleep this night and was basically in survival mode lol luckily I had some water bottles to stay hydrated but I knew I would have to venture out to get more eventually. I basically spent the whole night on the toilet or curled up in pain.
Day 3: Recovery
I was hoping I’d feel feel better in the morning and I was somewhat correct. After 12 hours I could walk again although it was definitely difficult. I managed to make it to a farmacia where the pharmacist recommended me treda. I got that and more water + electrolit. It was around 1pm so I sat outside and drank my electrolit to see if I strong enough to do some sort of activity. After about 20 mins of sitting outside I decided I definitely could not and decided to just take the L for today so I could be full strength for tomorrow. I took my treda and was able to get some rest. When I woke up I was still feeling montezumas revenge a little bit but I knew I had to eat something. I ended up using Uber eats to get consomé de pollo from this place called Toks. It seemed like a safe option as it looked like a chain and I assumed chains usually have somewhat good hygiene standards. It ended up being way better than expected and I managed to put down most of it.
After eating, I took a walk to get more electrolit. I was still a little weak so I just went back to the hotel and went to bed. I was a bit bummed I lost a day but anytime you’re in a 3rd world country you should budget a day for stomach issues.
Day 4: Castillo De Chapultepec & Historic Center
I woke up feeling a lot better. It was actually crazy as 24 hours ago I couldn’t even walk straight. I took my treda and headed out. I was debating on if I should go back Chapultepec park to see the castle or if it would take too much time as I was planning to go to the historic center today. I decided to see the castle as I was thinking about it too much to skip it.
I took an Uber there this time and paid the admission. It was definitely worth it. The castle was so beautiful and there was so much history inside. I learned a lot about Mexican history and was able to take in some nice views of the city. My favorite part were the murals inside and the jardin. After, I walked to 7/11 to get more electrolit. I also got pringles as I was hungry but my stomach was still a little rough. From there I ubered to the historic center.
When I got to the historic center I was instantly overstimulated lol. It was a Saturday afternoon so it must’ve been the most popular day. It was a lot bigger than expected too. I didn’t really know where to start so I just started walking. My first stop was actually the adidas store as I needed to get my bearings and am a fan of adidas lol unfortunately there wasn’t much in there though that seemed exclusive. I know in Tokyo they’ll have exclusive stuff but didn’t see anything like that in Mexico City, bit disappointed but otherwise it provided a place for me to take a breath. I got out and started walking towards zocalo plaza.
Zocalo Plaza was just epic. The big Mexican flag with the cathedral behind it had so much swag for lack of a better term lmao it showed off the immense pride that Mexico has for itself. I really liked this area a lot.
I continued walking and ended up at these streets with vendors. This was even more overstimulating than the other areas. So much noise and people. I stopped in a store and got a can coke and kept on trucking along.
I decided to go to palacio de bella artes. I really liked palacio de bella artes as well. The architecture and colors were stunning. The Torre Latinoamericana building was also interesting. I decided to check out the museum inside palacio de Bella artes. At first i thought it was a bit underwhelming. I was not too big of a fan of the murals and it seemed like some areas were closed. I then came across the Dioses y Maquinas exhibit by Santiago Sierra Soler. This exhibit was an “immersive cinema installation” that told the story of the aztecs getting colonized by Spaniards. It was very powerful and really made me understand some of the politics of Mexico. Also globalism in general and how colonization impacted the world. It gave me that powerful global experience that I mentioned before. I think everyone who visits cdmx should experience this exhibit to really wrap your head around the politics of the country and how it became what it is today. When I walked out I began to see the two sides of Mexico, the native side and european side and how they interact with each other.
That exhibit made me want to learn about the Aztecs more so I ended up going to museo del templo mayor. This place was also impressive with countless exhibits about the Aztecs. It’s insane to me how there was an ancient city right under us. By the time I was done there I was getting hungry so ironically I got McDonald’s as my stomach needed something familiar. I got it to go and ate it near the palacio de bella artes. I wanted to go the sears rooftop after but couldn’t find the entrance so I just walked around the surrounding neighborhood. This part reminded me a lot of Manhattan.
I walked through the Barrio Chino and thought it was hilarious tbh. I did not see any Asian people and there wasn’t much Asian culture other than the lanterns i guess lol the restaurants also did not look too good. Cool experience nonetheless.
I ended my walk at a plaza San juan to call an Uber as it was about to start raining. I found the torre de telefons de Telmex structure also super interesting. I made it home and rested before dinner.
For dinner I went to this Argentinan steak house called Gardela. A bit risky after my stomach issues but I wanted to get a nice dinner on my last night. I got a dry aged New York strip and it did not disappoint. I ordered it medium rare but it was a bit more rare than expected. I ate it anyway and was wowed. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Amazing service too, can’t recommend this place enough if you want a good steak.
When I got back to my hotel I was having an internal debate if I should go out. I had an early flight and was already pretty tired and full. I decided to go out anyway as it was Saturday night and didn’t get to do anything the day before. I ended up at this techno club called yuyu. Pretty intimate spot. The techno was very good and creative. The crowd was also fun, I had a few shallow conversations with people but nothing deep. Mostly my fault though as I wasn’t making much conversation. I just drank beer, smoked cigarettes, and listened to good electronic music which is a solid night for me. I headed home around 2 and went to bed for my flight.
Closing remarks:I really enjoyed my time in Mexico City. Im not sure what my expectations were for the city but they were definitely exceeded. Definitely an underrated city as there is so much culture and history but I never here much people talk about it in the states. I will definitely be back as I feel like there’s still so much to discover and it was pretty cheap to get there and get lodging.
Not gonna lie though, I was bit nervous going solo here but once I got there most of the anxiety went away. In terms of safety, just be where you’re supposed to be (tourist areas & safe neighborhoods), keep your possessions zipped up, and don’t walk at night. I felt more sketched out in most US cities

Rich people sila yung mga self made millionaires through companies nila and some of them has connection but not that big and some of them flaunt their riches while wealthy people are ina a different caliber sila yung tipong they don't need to schedule an appointment if gusto nila ng luxury item and they don't need to fall in line gaya ng ginawa ni Sharon Cuneta sa Korea. Their name exudes privilege that the moment alam nila ang name mo they know VIP ka kaagad no butts and ifs kahit pa may nakauna na. Second, they have connection in different parts of the world sadly kahit sa mafia or yakuza and worse even vatican. If you're wealthy sadly you must be connected with illegal syndicates and even if alam mo na mali you can't do anything about it since it's what it is and it has been going on through years and marami kang mababangga. Let's say you're a foreign guy who is into investing and you propose to them asahan mo na they will do anal to you not unless you're bigger than them (in terms of connection) di ko alam if culture or homo talaga ibang arabs. Third, they rarely flaunt their riches and no they won't be part of the list made by forbes I don't know why though. Fourth, they don't mingle outside their circles. Rarely will you see them in dating app cause they can hook up whenever and wherever. They can hire the most beautiful and sexiest escort. Wealthy people are like arab monarchy but there are some families that are discreet as well. Kaya nga nasabi ko ang unfair kasi they have all the means in life while tayo yung nasa pinakababa who is controlled by them. Don't get started with politicians na pawns din sila. There are people or rather organizations bigger than them who is in control. As someone na employee I was stunned and nalulungkot iba ang power + connection + wealth. Influencers, actors and other businesses is not part of it. The wealthy people are not afraid to go bankrupt cause they never will or else the world will suffer.
This post is good for 24 hrs I feel uneasy
