2023.06.03 15:32 PoopInToilet All Season Tires Year Round On M3P?
Has anyone switched to 19 inch all season tires on the M3P in a cold climate (midwest) and keep them on year round? If so, how is the efficiency and performance compared to the 20 inch Ubers?
Debating between the LR and M3P, I'm not opposed to changing the tires for winter on the M3P. If I went with the LR I'd get the all seasons and keep them on year round. I currently have a RWD Pontiac GtG8 and have never had issues with all seasons year round.
My normal driving is local usually within 10 minutes non highway and then I will hop on backroads/highway maybe 1-2 times per month. So I’m wondering if the M3P will just be overkill as I won’t be taking advantage of the quick acceleration most of the time.

For context, the average strike rate (SR) across all juveniles is 9.54%, winner-runner (WR) 19.55%, improvement rate (IMP) 36.90%, clear round (CR) 96.07%, prize money per race (PMPR) £1107.31

- Average winning Dis 0.89 median, 1.14 mean. Figures lower only at Chepstow and Cheltenham.
- Average winners’ seasonal RPR of 103.43 over a stone lower than standard juvenile hurdle.
- Four graduates have gone on to contest the Triumph; Simarian (1st 2008, 7th Triumph), Lindenhurst (2nd 2013, 9th Triumph), Koi Dodville (1st 2021, 11th Triumph), Rupestrian (1st 2009, PU Triumph).
- Dinarius (5th 2008), Ocean Transit (4th 2008) and Linger (UR 2016) eventually earned RPRs exceeding 130
Course Info
- Undulating, galloping, left-handed track.
- Average winning Dis of 0.89 median, 1.11 mean are 0.46 lower than average runner; greatest discrepancy of all racecourses.
- Clear round 97.24% (+1.17 cf. standard), completion rate 77.91% (-9.36 cf. standard) lower only at Southwell.
- Odds-on SR of 40% is lowest of all British courses with 10 or more qualifiers.
- No discernible pace advantage
Ground & Pace
- Good. Dry weather forecast, watering to maintain.
- Three have made running in past. Solid pace anticipated.
City Of Ruins bg Donald McCain Unraced
Nathaniel (New Approach){7-f}(0.53) 2/1 Devilment 150 2nd Anniversary Hurdle (G1), Aintree 2015 Breeding
- Nathaniel 27.5% WR, including Zanahiyr, Burning Victory and Navajo Pass. Won this race in 2019 with Green Etoile.
- Full-brother Tuddenham Green won two Juveniles last term and finsihed second in Wensleydale.
- Nephew of Devilment (2nd Anniversary) and Nasee (minor staying hurdle winner)
Source
- Cost 7,000gns as yearling at Tatts October Sale.
- Donald McCain one win from five with racecourse debutants (Sacre Pierre a three-time winner in 2021/22).
Trainer
- 38.89% WR since 2018/19.
- 12 runners without a win at Hexam, 2nd in 2018 running with Weinberg.
Summary
- Outside of Junior NH Hurdles, previously unraced juvenile hurdling debutants have a first-time-out strike-rate of just 2.35%. Nevertheless, one such winner was trained by Donald McCain and this pedigree is an especially strong one for the time of year.
Hourless bg Alan King f5-1-0 (49) 57
Time Test (Green Desert){14-c}(1.36) 3/1 Blue Bit 107 1st 2m Handicap Hurdle, Tramore 1997 Breeding
- Time Test second season, one juvenile to date; Never No Trouble r9w1 RPR91
- Green Desert below average influence in juvenile hurdles (15.79% WR damsire, 15.38% WR sire)
- Family of Kutub, Blue Bit (3/1) only winning jumper of ten+ relatives from 3rd dam.
Source
- Cost 70,000gns at last year’s Tatts Guineas Sale.
- Self-trained Alan King juveniles 51.06% WR.
- Those rated 61 or below have 15% first time strike rate. However, those rated 56 or below are only one winner from thirteen, with Proprioception’s sole win from six coming in a Southwell mares’ handicap off 92.
Trainer
- Most winners of any trainer since 2004/05, 47.13% WR, 48.57% IMP
- Three runs in this race, one win (Green Etoile 2019), one second (City Dreamer 2017)
Flat Profile
- No show on first three outings, but won handicap debut off 47 at Wolverhampton over 1m1½f.
- Raced keenly in rear off modest tempo, green under pressure but led inside final furlong winning with bit to spare.
- Raised two pounds, still green when one paced 5th last time at Bath
Summary
- Represents most successful trainer in the sphere and does have a win to his name. However, that came at a decidedly modest level and there is also a concern that he could find himself unbalanced around Hexham.
Indication Rocket bg Rebecca Menzies f9-1-2 (61) 64
Dandy Man (Rip Van Winkle){14-c}(0.71) 3/1 Rocky Wednesday 140 3rd Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle (G2), Fairyhouse 2011 Breeding
- Dandy Man 7.14%WR, 0-12 IMP. Chatez (Alan King rated 96 on flat) only winner.
- Rip Van Winkle 0-3 as damsire, 7.69% WR as sire.
- Third dam produced useful winners Bohemian Spirit and Rocky Wednesday
Source
- 16,000gns as 2yo at Tatts Guineas Sale.
- Sole self-trained flat recruit beaten only hurdles start.
Trainer
- 62.50% Improvement rate since 2018/19 is highest in GB.
- 26.67% First time strike rate, including three such winners last term. First juvenile at Hexham.
Flat Profile
- Most experienced runner in the field courtesy of nine outings. Modest on first three starts over 6f, but has steadily improved for switch to handicaps and step up in trip.
- Runner-up in slowly run 10f Newcastle Nursery in September, off the mark penultimate outing in mile handicap off 55 at same track in early May.
- Had run of race up front, but pulled clear again when caught inside distance to win by 2½l. No subsequent winners but those out since have run to form.
- Last seen ten days later finishing third at Wolverhampton over a further furlong-and-a-half off 61. Travelled strongly but no extra when headed turning for home.
Summary
*Rebecca Menzies is a very capable trainer of juveniles who finds improvement from her charges more often than not; which is very much a positive for a horse who is only a few pounds from the top rated. However, while the damline is sound, the sire and damsire have poor records and stamina around Hexham is not assured.
Uncle Matthew bg Evan Williams f6-1-0 (65) 69
Fast Company (Manduro){13-c}(0.78) 3/1 Scriptwriter 134 5th Holloway’s Handicap Hurdle (G2,133), Ascot 2009 Breeding
- Fast Company since 2018/19; 41.18% WR, 22.73% SR (2nd highest) 64.29% IMP (5th highest)
- Manduro 3-12 WR, 62.50% IMP as damsire, 32.14% WR as sire
- Half-brother pulled up sole jumps start. Nephew of Hunter’s Light. Fourth dam produced Darshaan, along with useful jumpers Daraydan and Darialann.
Source
- £16,000 Tatts Ascot March
- ex-John Gosden’s have below-average record in juveniles; WR 18.35%, IMP 22.97%
- First to join Evan Williams from Gosden’s
- Williams 31.75% WR with those bought at public auction. 29.79% for those costing £20,000 or less. Ex-Gosdens 18.60% WR <= £20,000
Trainer
- 27.97% WR, although only 9.52% since 2017/18
- 22.03% Strike rate during summer.
- Two runners in this contest; Simarian (1st 2008 – strongest juvenile graduate from contest; 1st Prestbury, 7th Triumph) Quickdrawmcgraw (2nd 2022)
Flat Profile
- Five-race 2yo campaign starting in Autumn saw him finish no closer than fourth with a BHA mark of 62.
- Made winning return in 1m3f Southwell handicap off 62; starting slowly, prominent halfway and stayed on dourly to prevail by head. Third, fourth and fifth all placed next time.
Summary
- Trainer not as prolific as he was previously, but still managed a second in this contest last year with 52 rated Quickdrawmcgraw. Pedigree is very solid, neither stamina nor attitude would be a concern, and the his Southwell win is as strong as any British form in this line-up. However, those leaving John Gosden’s often underperform when switched to hurdles.
Max Of Stars bf Ollie Pears f4-0-0 (55) 57
Cloth Of Stars (Rock Of Gibraltar){31}(0.67) 3/2 Tiger Roll 174 1st Triumph Hurdle (G1), Cheltenham 2014 Breeding
- Cloth Of Stars first crop. 1st Ganay, 2nd and 3rd in Arc. 2/3 Elgin 3/2 Dodging Bullets, 1.62m
- Sea The Stars 35% WR as juvenile grandsire, 33.33% WR as sire.
- Two juveniles to date in France, each placing at moderate level.
- Rock of Gibraltar 13.95% WR as damsire.
- Third dam, On Air, 4th in Kennel Gate. Produced useful Khachaturian and dam of Tiger Roll
Source
- €8,500 as yearling from Arqana
- Sole placed juvenile My Brother Jack, trained on flat by Pears
Trainer
- 0-6 WR. No runners at Hexham. 100% IMP courtesy of My Brother Jack (sole qualifier)
Jockey
- Sean Quinlan won 2017 running with 8/1 shot Costa Percy
Flat Profile
- Made debut in February. Beaten at least eleven lengths first three outings in maidens at Southwell and Doncaster.
- Handicap debut off 56 at Southwell over 1m4f. Raced keenly with uncontested lead, headed final furlong, flashed tail under pressure. Finished 2¼l fourth of six.
Summary
- Distant relative of Tiger Roll and first-season sire not without potential. However, while best form on flat came last time out, it still leaves enough to find and her attitude was not massively encouraging.
Waitara chf David Pipe f6-2-1 (30.0/66) TF68
Recoletos (Hernando){1-t}(0.54) 1/2 Theamoi 62.5 1st 3550m 3yo Handicap Hurdle (59.0), Fontainebleau 2022 https://www.equidia.fchevaux/waitara Breeding
- Recoletos first juvenile runner. Won Moulin and d’Ispahan, 3rd French Derby. Half-brother to winning hurdler Pedregalejo. 1.63m
- Whipper’s sole juvenile stallion Very Nice Name 14.29% WR. Whipper himself 20% WR
- Hernando 29.27% WR as damsire inc. Punjabi, Adagio and Gaelic Warrior. 60.71% IMP
- Nephew of Timos. 0.5 Thea (1st 4yo Hurdle, Auteuil), 0.5 Ticinello (3rd 4yo Hurdle Enghien). 2/1 Trillion Stars, 3/1 Thagus (both winners)
Source
- David Pipe 7-22 first time ex-French Claimers; including last two winners of this race, Koi Dodville and Free Chakarte (both bought off Flat).
- Waitara second least expensive of such horses, only Jilaijone lower at €10,806; won first time at Fontwell last term for same owner.
- First export of Thierry & Gaël Lemer.
Trainer
- David Pipe 46.67% WR since 2018/19 (5th highest) 38.46% SR during June.
- Last four runners in this race; Free Chakarte (1st 2022), Koi Dodville (1st 2021), Bathwick Scanno (2nd 2011), Lucky Quay (1st 2010)
Flat Profile
- Beaten by at least 12l on both outings at two, but began 3yo campaign with win in Pau 2000m claimer (retained for €11,001)
- Forgiven sixth place finish next time having missed break. Second penultimate outing; winner (2kg lighter) had run of race, stayed on well from remainder.
- Last seen winning 2100m Toulouse claimer in mid March. Broke slowly but soon in lead racing keenly. Caught at distance but responded generously for pressure; winning decisively by length and a half.
- Fifth placed finisher only subsequent winner. Nevertheless, runner-up has since been consistent in handicaps off 62. Mark in mid-high 60s would be appropriate.
Summary
- Last two runnings have gone to David Pipe trained ex-French claimers, and while Free Chakarte and Koi Dodville had slightly higher ratings, Waitara still emerges on top at these weights. Moreover, she has shown consistent form throughout 2023 and a good attitude to complement same. First-season sire yet to be tested but has perfectly reasonable credentials and the damsire and damlines are encouraging. Only concern would be a lack of form shown on ground better than soft.
Strong Prospects
- Waitara
Reasonable Prospects
- Uncle Matthew
- Indication Rocket
Feasible Prospects
- City Of Ruins
Moderate Prospects
- Hourless
- Max Of Stars
Negligible Prospects

2023.06.03 11:21 ImSimpleGuy [Gen 9 OU] Maximum Carnage! A guide on Trick Room playstyle for Gen 9 OU (Warning Thesis level Long Post)
So Pokemon Home just dropped and you the reader really want to just smash the entire metagame with cocaine bear. Well I got your back with some heat TR teams. Unlike my last
post, this time I will be posting a lot of teams so if you don't like a random redditor rambling about a niche playstyle and just want the team in question well...
TLDR :
https://pokepast.es/cc649b55771109b0 (Reached top 200 in Gen 9 OU)
If you are reading this post post Ursaluna ban, well too bad. I will post TR teams without Ursaluna and Magearna in the future so lookout for that or just replace Ursaluna with Glastrier. Use Cinderace to keep hazards off field and use Torkoal and Ursaluna to delete stuff. Use Iron Hands as late game sweeper once the unawares have been dealt with.
Now for the long post to begin : Pick your Trick Room Team:
If you are new to Trick Room playstyle, you might want to refer to my previous
post or at least the TLDR part of it so you are aware of the limitations of Trick Room playstyle. Now below are the three teams sorted by level of skill and metagame awareness required to play (explanations given below):
Threats to TR teams :
- Tera Water Urshifu once it gets a SD up will not allow you to setup your TR unless you Tera Water yourself.
- Heatran will taunt and trap your setter so need some way to pressure heatran.
- Substitutes and protects are always annoying. (Fuck protect rotom-wash)
- Ursaluna itself is quite scary if it outspeeds your TR mains under TR and OHKOs your setters outside of TR.
- Strong priority like tera dark sucker punch chien-pao and tera normal Dragonite.
Now that we have established the threats lets explore the above teams.
Beginner : - Hatterene, Magearna and Glowking are the TR setters. Lead with hatterene to get a TR off 93% of the time or lead with Mag/Glowking if you predict a Urshifu lead & Lead with Ursaluna if you predict a Heatran lead. Hat is tera steel coz fuck dire claw.
- 252 Atk Choice Band Tera Water Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hatterene on a critical hit: 276-330 (86.7 - 103.7%) -- approx. 6.3% chance to OHKO
- 252 Atk Choice Band Tera Water Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 248 HP / 96 Def Magearna on a critical hit: 306-360 (84.2 - 99.1%) -- approx. 2HKO
- 252 Atk Choice Band Tera Water Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowking-Galar on a critical hit: 306-366 (77.6 - 92.8%) -- approx. 2HKO
- Aim of the team is to chip down the physical walls (Great Tusk/ Lando/Dondozo) so that Ursaluna can sweep. Glastrier is tera electric to help with corv and pex matchups and Iron hands is tera fire to lure in durge and iron valiant. Glastrier has good enough bulk
- This is marked as a beginner team as there are 3 TR setters with instant pivots (Eject pack/ C healing wish) and none of the pokemons are choice locked. All the mons resist rocks or have boots so stealth rock is non issue. Pilot this team to get a better understanding of the playstyle.
- Possible Changes : Glowking to a more sp. def variant to better deal with heatran and set TR up in front of special attackers, Ursaluna Tera to Ghost to help with mirror matchups and Tera bug Iron Hands with EQ instead of Wild Charge.
- Limitations: Although this team is easy to pilot, there are multiple limitations to this team. All are Physical attackers so against Zamazenta its GG. Eject pack Magearna is not reliable way to switch out (90% accurate move is 10% accurate for me) and with all the bullshit GF has introduced hatterene is not enough to keep hazards of the field (Seriously what was GF thinking lol). Hazards + a strong attacker (Urshifu/ Chien-pao) is GG for a TR team. Once you are comfortable piloting this team proceed for the next team.
Intermediate: - I will be honest TR before home kind of sucked in Gen 9. Is it Ursaluna which makes TR strong now?Well... yes but also there is one more mon. Enter.... Uxie. This is not a joke lmao Uxie is really the goat. Go on showdown and filter the mons which gets TR, stealth rock, encore and memento. Yeah. Uxie is bulky af, sets up hazards, encores dragonites, Zamas and magearnas and fucks off instantly. Ohh Uxie how I missed you. Team has a sp. def variant to set up TR in front of strong special attackers as well as enough physical bulk to withstand physical hits (Walls GT). Tera dark to setup TR in front of fraud chien-pao in case GT knocked off colbur berry.
- Ursaluna is the king of TR teams. Torkoal is the God. To demonstrate its power let me post 2 calcs.
- 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion in Sun: 164-194 (54.4 - 64.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Toxapex in Sun: 148-175 (48.8 - 57.7%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO
- Aim of this team is to chip the flash fire and double resist to fire mons, proceed to sweep with torkoal. Torkoal is faster than cocaine bear under TR so sweep with your hearts content. Torkoal is bulky enough to withstand the sucker punches and aqua jets and demolish said attackers. Also weakens Urshifu's Surging Strokes. However there is a big enough problem for torkoal. HAZARDS.
- With the Ceaseless Discharges and Stoned Axes, hatterene cannot keep hazards off field. Hazard control in a TR team is a massive challenge. The mon with both TR and rapid spin is Toadscruel (lol) and with both TR and defog is Drifblim (LMAO). We have to enter the kitchen for this one. Enter.... Braviary Hisuan edition.
- This mon has sheer force and 112 Sp. Atk. Lando-I has 115 Sp. Atk. Literally Lando-I at home. Lando-I does not get hurricane. You know who gets sheer force boosted hurricanes ? Yeah. Has god like coverage with shadow ball, psychic, heat wave all SF boosted. But SF boosted hurricane is nothing compared to the one move it gets. DEFOG. Yeah baby. Mon is also bulky enough to take some neutral hits and not die in case you have to 1v1 some mon outside of TR. Tera fairy is for sucker punches but feel free to make it ghost for Ursaluna facades.
- This team is intermediate as torkoal is choice locked and depends a lot on your ability to keep hazards off the field. I know its tricky but the reward is you clicking eruption 3 times to delete 3 mons per TR setup. All the flash fire mons are also weak to Earth Power so it also relies on you calling your opponents switch. Also rain can seem to be tough but consider this : 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Pelipper in Rain: 135-159 (41.7 - 49.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock. For sp. def variants, Guaranteed SF boosted hurricanes yaay!
- Limitations : Look I know defog on a SR weak mon is weak sauce but you use Toedscruel and Drifblim in OU and tell me how it goes. Team still needs Ursaluna to threaten heatran and Screens are a big problem for any TR team. No clear answer for Chien-pao/ Late game Kingambit. Also WW fucks this team if not played properly. Watch out for Tera fire kingambits/Zamazenta/amoongus. Keep hatterene healthy for a healing wish in case opponent has above tera fire mons. Pilot this team and once comfortable proceed for the next team.
Advanced: - We remove the cheap soon-to-be-banned Magearna for honest and hard working Cinderace. Look, I know Cinderace does not learn TR but it learns Court Change. You know where this is going, screens and hazards can now be dealt with easily. High jump kick with libero (or low kick if you are afraid of missing) fucks over Fraudian-Samurott and Ugly Scizor, resisting both their signature moves.
- With hazards taken care of we can braviary can now be replaced with Iron Hands except this is not the Iron Hands from the first team. Look at its set. Yeah. Shoutouts to the guy who came up with this. I just changed the tera to bug to Goob Great Tusk. This mon is your one stop answer to all the physical bullshit in the tier (Urshifu, Kingambit, Chien-Pao even Ursaluna). Once special attackers/unawares are dealt with this mon can win even outside of TR.
- This team is advanced as you might have noticed, it has only two TR setters. Also Court change is not defog. It is possible to have both sides to have hazards if not played properly. In practice, playing with two TR setters is lot more tricky than you might think. But with the might of Ursaluna and Torkoal you can demolish most of the teams out there. I reached top 200 in OU and I believe a better player can reach top 100 easily with this team.
- Uxie can be phys. def with tera water to deal with Rain teams and Urshifu (Seriously don't let Urshifu SD. Greedy players always SD with their Urshifu expecting my Ursaluna to switch but I never do.) Also SD instead of belly drum on Iron Hands if one is unable to get a belly drum off while playing.
- Limitations: Stall team gets demolished by this team unless their blissey teras into water now you are getting walled by blissey and houndstone. Niche matchup but still worthy to point out. WW is still a pain in the ass and requires a lot of skill and calling out switches to win. Fortunately you have to worry about it once (252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Torkoal Eruption (150 BP) vs. 12 HP / 0 SpD Walking Wake in Sun: 176-207 (51.4 - 60.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). Deal with magearnas immediately or it will setup and become unkillable. Some stuff like protect wash tom is really annoying but what can we do TR teams do really have limitations thats why they are niche in singles.
Team for Absolute Chads: - Well if the above team wasn't heat enough we replace Iron Hands with Regieleki at home: Regidrago (LMAO).
- Regidrago is an absolute monster once fairies are gone and with its nice HP stat it can 1v1 some mons even outside of TR.
- Torkoal and Regidrago honestly have good synergy with torkoal resisting ice and fairy moves and drago resisting water moves. The best part is this shit gets earth power for whatever reason so it can still deal with magearna with out using tera. Imagine the opponent switching in sp. def heatran for dragon energy only to get KOed by Earth Power. With the only flash fire mon gone, torkoal goes nuts.
- This team needs big bollocks to pilot as it has only two TR setters, two choice-locked mons and both the mons depend on their HP being at near full to sweep the opposite team. Also any random mon can tera into fairy and proceed to goob your regidrago. But then they cannot tera into fire so your torkoal goobs their team instead. That's the point of the team. Vice versa for Tera water magearna to survive eruption from torkoal.
- A funny thought but once Ursaluna dies and you have used your tera on torkoal, Dachsbun walls the team (LMAOOOO).
If you have read this far, I would like to sincerely thank you for taking an interest in TR playstyle. With Ursaluna still in the tier, TR teams can easily demolish their way to the top. Semi-TR are honestly easier to pilot but I am a TR enthusiast so I go all in. Personally I would like to see magearna and cheap-pao banned before Ursaluna goes. (Also who at GF thought about giving Urshifu Swords Dance ? Really I just want to have a talk thats all.)
Beyond Ursaluna, its still possible to reach the top using a TR team although a lot of creativity and skill is required (Bax + Regidrago come to mind to pressure the fairies. I am still working on it). Unless Uxie is getting banned to Ubers, Trick Room is finally a viable strategy in Gen 9 OU.

2023.06.03 07:32 KonoKinoko Tuning help! I got the engine swap for the focus RS. now it's a monster fast, but drive as a brick, going straight on every single turn. I cannot make this car turn properly... please consider I'm a newby of tuning. I tried to set up the suspension as per some guide online, but.. it's still a brick.
2023.06.03 04:57 nimmoisa000 Open world crime game idea Cartel: Palm City.
Developed by Hangar 13, DICE, Ripple Effect Studios, EA Gothenburg, and Criterion Games and published by EA.
Additionally former EA Black Box and Ghost Games employees who would help access game assets and code from previous NFS titles to streamline the development)
Cartel (or alternatively as “Cartel: Palm City” or "Cartel: Miami" ) would be an open world title based on the Mafia Games, the GTA games and the Saints Row games, with elements of Battlefield: Hardline thrown in with an array of weapons and vehicles based on their real life counterparts.
Gameplay wise the driving would be like Need for Speed titles, and on foot and shooting mechanics like BF: Hardline and Saints Row. Plus you can customize your cars and weapons to the same extent in BF: 2042 and some cars would allow for mounted weapons,on foot you can execute people with your equipped weapon like in The Godfather games. On foot would be an FPS view (you can change to a third person view as well) same with having an FPS view in your car.
There would an single player experience point system (like in BF Hardline single player) you gain XP from killing gangsters, and cops blowing up or capturing enemy vehicles and completing main missions, side missions and activities also there will be 15 levels to achieve with each level up unlocking new weapons, vehicles and customization for your weapons and vehicles. As well as a New Game Plus (NG+) where everything you unlocked is carried over and you can also play on the higher difficulties through NG+.
Also there would be five wanted levels for police and five vendetta levels for the gangs should you reach level five gang vendetta you start a Gang War there are three ways to stop a Gang War either bribe the feds, blow up a gang stronghold, or hide out in a safe house. Police wanted levels one and two local units would come after the player, at police wanted level two or three the state police would come after the player. At wanted level four and five the feds would come after the player. The military will only come after the player if they trespass in Fort Rockport or the Palmount Naval Shipyard
The Storyline
In Cartel: Palm City; in a different universe and timeline where there's a total prohibition of all narcotics in the United States in 2010; tells the story of Jack Rourke (the player character) a hardworking rideshare driver at day and a street racer at night who's scraping by in Palm City circa 2019. One fateful night, Jack Rourke has an inadvertent brush with the Blackwell Syndicate (mainly Carl Stoddard and that showcases a life of reward too big to ignore. As he joins the Blackwell Syndicate who are fighting for control of Palm City against five other criminal groups and take the city for the Blackwell Syndicate including recovering evidence that could not only convict the Blackwell Syndicate, as well as a network of crime lords in many countries, (including the other gang’s backers) including the Blackwell Syndicate's backers the Mob and it would also directly implicate the CIA in Palm City’s drug trade with Jack Rourke earning the nickname “El Sicario” for his efforts in driving the other gangs out of Palm City. When he learns how much the drugs were hurting the people of Palm City and all over the country as well as learning that the Blackwell Syndicate had gotten into the drug trade themselves, he contacts FBI agent Chase Linh who relays the story to her and offers the evidence and his testimony in exchange for full immunity for him and his associates, and the evidence on the computer was enough to convict everyone form all the five gangs, but also their crime lord backers from at least half a dozen countries, as well implicating the CIA in this as well as lobbying efforts to keep all narcotics prohibited, leading to a new administration repealing the Narcotics Prohibition law and legalizing low level cannabis. However six months later after the repeal of the Narcotics Prohibition Jack Rourke would be gunned down by Russian Mafia hitmen, Dimitri "Dima '' Mayakovsky and Henry "Black" Blackburn.

The Gangs of Palm City
L.S 16 (Los Salmos 16) - Also known as The Salmos. Backed by the most powerful Mexican drug lords and the most powerful arms traffickers in the world, L.S 16 once ruled all of Palm City In fear until The House stepped in. They’re also the strongest gang in the game with access to military grade weapons and vehicles and each gang kill from them awards 500-1,500 XP depending on the enemy type. They are led by Neil Roark.
The House - The House is a gambling gang with strong ties and backed by the Sicilian Mafia; they run the street scene and the casinos in Palm City. They’re pretty strong but weaker than L.S 16, and they have access to military grade weapons and vehicles each gang kills from them awards 250-800 XP depending on the enemy type. Headed by Lina Navarro.
The Volk - The Volk is a Chinese-Russian gang led by Roman Barkov with Niko Barkov as their enforcer backed by the Triads (Chan Wu), the Russian Mob (Dimitri Glebov), and GMAC's crew (Gregory "GMAC" MacDonald, Rose Largo) for cars who control the weapon smuggling and arms dealing in Palm City. With this backing and access to military grade weapons. They are a mid tier gang and each gang kill from them awards 200-600 XP depending on the enemy type. They are also the ones who go after the Blackwell Syndicate the most.
Palm Kings - The Palm Kings (PKs) is a Black gang made up of Black nationalists who controls Palm Harbor’s rackets and extorts store owners. Led by Benny King, they’re equipped with police-grade weaponry and has strong ties with the PCPD despite this, they are the second weakest gang in the game and each gang kill from them awards 150-500 XP depending if it's a regular to elite
Dixie Paladins - The Dixie Paladins are a white supremacy gang and a militarized version of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) who controls the Gold Coast Mountains in the mountainous regions of Palm City. they’re the weakest gang in the game and each gang kill from them awards 100-250 XP from regular to elite members. They are led by Tony Alpert
Blackwell Syndicate - The Blackwell Syndicate is a underground criminal organization based in Palm City and is led by Marcus Blackwell with Julian “Julius” Little as underboss, Hector Maio before "Code of Silence" and Zack Maio after "Code of Silence". Nick Mendoza. Khai Minh Dao and Carl Stoddard are caporegimes and Tyson Latchford, Tyler "Ty" Morgan, Sean "Mac" McAlister, Jessica "Jess" Miller as soldiers. Other members include Ravindra "Rav" Chaudhry as the gang's car expert Rachel Teller as the gang's customization expert, Marcus “Boomer” Boone as the gang's weapon experts. The Blackwell Syndicate would be the gang that the player would join. In Act 1, they're an outside and fast tracked to soldier, but in Act 2 the player would be a capo until the end of the game. They are secretly backed by both The Mob and the CIA through Agent Dawes. Jonathan Cross and Mia Townsend are also on the gang's payroll until "Bon Appetit" where Marcus Blackwell executes him with a 870P Magnum to the head. Also Mia would also go with Jack Rourke as well
The police/military force
PCPD - the police force of Palm City/Miami if the player does hostile acts (killing civilians, firing unsuppressed weapons in public, etc) will attract police attention and each kill from them awards 50 XP for regular members and 100 XP for armored members, However the player can bribe the PCPD to look the other way or will even help the player fight the other gangs but would be the target of higher level police forces. (Sort of like it was in The Godfather game) The player can also buy favors from them as well. Also they’ll deploy stronger units at higher heat level alongside the FBI. The cars PCPD drives are the Ford Crown Victoria, Dodge Challenger, Pontiac GTO, and the Chevy Grand Sport
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) - The state police force and Only appears in wanted levels 3 and above, Each kill from them awards 75 XP for regular state troopers and 150 XP for tactical state troopers. Regular state troopers drives Ford Mustang GTs tactical state troopers drives Nissan GT-R
FBI - Only appears in wanted level 5 the FBI will be called in if the player continues to retaliate against the PCPD. Each kill from them awards 125 XP for regular agents, 250 XP for FBI SWAT and 375 XP for FBI HRT, Like the PCPD the player can bribe the FBI to look the other way, or even help the player fight gangs, or the PCPD but at the second highest price. The FBI also has the second widest array of favors the player can buy. regular agents drives the Nissan 350Z or Porsche 911 GT3 RS, FBI SWAT drives the - Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster or Ford F-150 SVT Raptor L.E. and FBI HRT drives the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X or Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR
Military - Only goes after the player if they trespass in Fort Rockport or the Palmount Naval Shipyard. Each kill from them awards 200 XP for regs, 400 XP for experienced troops and 600 XP for elite troops. Like the PCPD, State Police and the FBI, the player can bribe the military to look the other way, or even help the player fight gangs, the PCPD, State Police or even the FBI but at the highest price and The military also has the widest array of favors the player can buy in large part due to Agent Dawes’ connections in Washington.
Multiplayer portion of the game would take place during the five cartels war where the Blackwell Syndicate, The Volk, Palm Kings, Dixie Paldines, Los Salmos 16, and The House (basically where Jack Rourke glosses over saying "It was non-stop chaos for weeks")
Also there would be a free ride mode where the player can explore the city at their leisure or pick a fight with either other cartels or the cops.

2023.06.03 02:44 -LatteAppDotOrg Backtest from 2000 to 2022, 67% YOY Return
| For the past few weeks i have been feeding alot of historical data into GPT from 2000-2022 - only feeding it raw data (on the minute scale) from the top 100 or so stocks in the US - news from various sites over time since 2000 And just asked it to simply make buy/sell on anything above an 80% confidence. Im pretty shocked at the results... Sure there were some staggeringly bad years (Notably 2018 & 2002) but multiple years of 50% performance. As matter of fact 70% of time GPT has returned over 50% in any given year Note this does not factor, taxes, dividends, any withdrawals or deposits Just for kicks i started GPT to track performance if I had started in January of this year, a gain of 36% on the year vs 5.5% since i started in May =) Only time will tell if this is remotely accurate but i for one am excited A starting balance of 10,000 after 10 years turns into 1.6 million, that's pretty fair id say submitted by -LatteAppDotOrg to StockGPT [link] [comments] |

2023.06.02 20:18 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 84. Iowa State
Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings For all the Cyclone fanatics out there, I see you guys. For the 6th worst Power 5 team on this list, Iowa State has had incredible support, averaging 50,000+ fans a year even during their lows. Finally, after years of struggling minus a few nice Dan McCarney years, Iowa State’s found a coach that’s brought them consistent success in Matt Campbell. Outside of Campbell’s first year in which he went 3-9 and the latest 4-8 season in 2022, the 5 years in between (2017-21) all place in my top 7 ISU seasons over the last 40 years. Whether last year was an outlier or if Iowa State will regress to their historical mean remains to be seen, but the last 6 years have been great compared to what fans have been accustomed to.

- 184-283-5 record
- 0 conference titles
- 5-8 bowl record
- 5 consensus All-Americans
- 42 NFL players drafted
Iowa State certainly has a knack for producing really good RBs. 4 of their 5 All-Americans come from 2 RBs in Troy Davis (1995, ‘96) and Breece Hall (2020, ‘21). At just 5’8 183 lbs, Davis became the first player in NCAA history to rush for 2000 yards in back-to-back seasons, and remains one of only 2 players to ever do so. In 1995 he ran for 2010 yards and 15 TD, placing 5th in Heisman voting. He outdid himself a year later, rushing for 2185 yards and 21 TD, narrowly missing out on the Heisman, finishing to 2nd Florida QB Danny Wuerfel, who got 49% of the votes compared to Davis’ 43%. Davis won 3 of 4 regions, but lost badly in the South. Still, the tradition of producing strong RBs rings true, as Iowa State’s produced 8 RBs during the last 40 years with 2500+ career rushing yards. Notable NFL players include David Montgomery, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, Pro Bowler Kelechi Osemele, and as a 49er fan, future Hall of Famer Brock Purdy.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 1997 (1-10 overall, 1-7 Big 12) Remember how good Troy Davis was, especially after I described him above? Well, his teams weren’t very good, going 3-8 in 1995 and 2-9 in 1996. So you can imagine how 1997 went after he had left for the NFL. Iowa State didn’t stand a chance in Dan McCarney’s 3rd year as head coach, and it’s honestly a miracle the Cyclones let him stay for so long, as it took 6 years for him to get his first winning season. The gamble paid off though, as he was eventually inducted into the Iowa State Hall of Fame. Still, 1997 was his worst year. They had a talented freshman QB by the name of Sage “Helicopter” Rosenfels on the roster, but he wouldn’t start for another 2 years. QB was not a big issue though, as Todd Bandhauer had a respectable year, completing 48% of passes for 2514 yards 20 TD 9 INT, leading the Big 12 in passing yards and TDs. Bandhauer was a 2-time All-Academic Big 12 selection, and is currently an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State. WR Tyrone Watley led the Big 12 in receiving yards with 827, and RB Darren Davis had 1000+ yards in just 9 games. Offense wasn’t a huge issue, but the defense gave up 44.8 PPG. The lone win on the year was 24-17 over 2-9 Baylor, and losses included 14-77 to #3 Nebraska and 20-63 to #13 Iowa, losing their 15th straight against the Hawkeyes.
5. 2021 (7-6 overall, 5-4 Big 12) For this season to be a disappointment but also top 5 on this list tells you how far Iowa State’s come under Matt Campbell. Make no mistake, it was a disappointment, finishing 7-6 after a preseason #7 ranking, but they were still the best 7-6 team in 2021 (out of 17 teams) by my metric. Iowa State returned 4th year starting QB Brock Purdy, consensus All-American Breece Hall, 2x 1st Team All-Big 12 TE Charlie Kolar, and Big 12 Defensive POTY LB Mike Rose, so the preseason expectations weren’t unfounded. A typical ISU slow start saw them barely beat Northern Iowa, and a classic Brian Ferentz Iowa performance had the Hawkeyes take a 27-10 lead (27-17 final) despite getting outgained 173-339 in yardage. 2 weeks later, a trap game 31-29 loss in Waco all but ended the Cyclones’ playoff hopes, despite outgaining Baylor by nearly 200 yards. However, in true Iowa State fashion, they rebounded to mess up Oklahoma State’s season a few weeks later, beating the #8 Cowboys 24-21 to improve to 5-2. A 2-4 finish was mostly because of location, going 2-0 at home and 0-4 in road/neutral sites. It was a squandered year for Iowa State, outscoring Big 12 opponents by an average of 12 PPG but going just 5-4. 8 starters on offense made 1st/2nd Team All-Big 12, by far the most in the conference. Breece repeated as consensus AA/Big 12 OPOTY with 1774 yards and 23 TD from scrimmage, while Rose earned 1st Team all-conference again.
4. 2018 (8-5 overall, 6-3 Big 12) For the first time since the Big 12 moved from divisions to a round robin format in 2013, Iowa State wasn’t picked in the bottom 2 with Kansas. Big 12 media picked them 7th, this time coming above Texas Tech, Baylor, and of course Kansas. But after starting QB Kyle Kempt went down in the season opener, and backup Zeb Noland went just 1-3, Matt Campbell gave a shot to a freshman by the name of Brock Purdy. In a sort of foreshadowing for names in the NFL, Kyle became a mentor to Brock, and Purdy exploded onto the scene, throwing for 4 TD and rushing for another in a 48-42 win at #25 Oklahoma State. He’d top that a week later, beating #6 West Virginia and Will Grier 30-14, this time the defense stepping up big to hold Grier to just 67 total yards. ISU never looked back with Purdy, and nearly made the Big 12 title game if they had beaten Texas. They finished the regular season 8-4, 3rd in the Big 12, and nearly beat 11-2 Washington State in the bowl. Campbell won Big 12 Coach of the Year for the 2nd straight season. Purdy was 6th in the nation in passing efficiency, completing 66% of passes for 2250 yards 16 TD 7 INT, on 10.2 YPA. RB David Montgomery had another 1000+ yard rushing season and has gone on to have a productive NFL career. WR Hakeem Butler was 3rd in the nation in yards per catch (22.0), getting 60 passes for 1318 yards and 9 TD.
3. 2017 (8-5 overall, 5-4 Big 12) Before Brock Purdy and Iowa State could run, the 2017 team had to walk. Years of effort from give-it-their-all players like Allen Lazard and Joel Lanning culminated in a magical 2018 season that might just be the fondest on this list. ISU had gone just 11-37 over the previous 4 seasons, so a 2nd to last place Big 12 finish was expected. After a 2-2 start, ISU pulled off maybe the biggest win in school history, beating #3 Oklahoma 38-31, who’d go on to make the playoff with Baker Mayfield winning the Heisman. LB Joel Lanning, who was the team’s starting QB the previous 2 seasons, was the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week, logging 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, as well as 9 rushes for 35 yards and 2 completions for 25 yards on offense. A few weeks later against Oklahoma State he’d become the 1st player in the last 10 years to record a pass TD, rush TD, and half sack in the same game. After the win over OU though, just a few weeks later Iowa State would ALSO beat #4 TCU 14-7!!! A few one possession losses later and ISU finished 7-5, but would beat yet another top 25 team in the bowl in #20 Memphis.
Lanning was named a 1st Team All-American by FWAA, racking up 114 tackles, 6 sacks, 5 TFL, 1 INT, 135 rushing yards, 47 passing yards, and 3 TD. Not bad for a former QB. QB Kyle Kempt was one of the most underrated stories of the season, emerging as the starter in the 5th game and going on to throw 15 TD to just 3 INT. Kempt was a 5th year walk-on who had only thrown 2 passes in his career prior to the Oklahoma game. By the time the season was over, he had 2 wins over top 5 teams, and today is still on the team as a coach.
2. 2000 (9-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12) Like the 2017 team, the 2000 Cyclones came out of nowhere, a dormant program that had gone just 27-80-3 the previous decade. ISU players knew the talent they had though, led by future NFL QB Sage Rosenfels, one of 9 players that would go on to make NFL rosters. Another would go on to join the Iowa Senate, and the late LB Justin Eilers would fight in the UFC. They played a very favorable schedule, going 8-3 in the regular season with 0 wins over Power 6 teams with a winning record, but did beat 7-4 Ohio, 8-5 UNLV, and rival Iowa for the Cy-Hawk. ISU put any “soft schedule” talk to rest when they beat the Big East’s 3rd placed team, Pitt, in the bowl 37-29. Rosenfels had a nice curtain call, winning offensive POTG with 23/34 passing for 308 yards and 2 TD. Rosenfels did what he had to during the year, with deceiving stats of 2298 passing yards 8 TD 12 INT. He was a solid runner though, and would become known for his patented “helicopter” move in the NFL, rushing for 381 yards and 10 TD. RB Ennis Haywood and C Ben Bruns were ISU’s two 1st Team All-Big 12 selections, as Haywood ran for 1237 yards and Bruns led the way. The 5’6(!) JJ Moses led the team in receiving with 775 yards, and was named team MVP.
1. 2020 (9-3 overall, 8-1 Big 12) Ahh, but it had to be the 2020 team at #1. Even my algorithm places this team way above 2000 even though they had the same record, with the 2000 team finishing ranked 27th and 2020 finishing ranked 7th. After a typical ISU slow start, losing 13-30 to UL Lafayette, the rest of the year couldn’t have gone much better. In the 3rd game they beat eventual B12 champion Oklahoma 37-30. Later on they beat #17 Texas in Darrel K Royal 23-20, essentially ensuring Tom Herman would be fired after the season, and stomped 6-4 West Virginia 42-6. ISU entered the Big 12 championship game against Oklahoma as the 1 seed, and had an opportunity at the end to win, but came up short 21-27. A 34-17 Fiesta Bowl win over Pac-12 champion Oregon was pretty satisfying though, and Iowa State finished with their highest ever postseason ranking at #9. They cleaned up in the Big 12 accolades, taking up 9 of the 22 1st Team all-conference slots. Breece Hall was Big 12 Offensive POTY and a consensus All-American, with 1752 yards and 23 TD from scrimmage. LB Mike Rose won Big 12 Defensive POTY with 99 tackles, 10.5 total TFL, and 5 INT. Campbell won Coach of the Year, and WR Xavier Hutchinson and DB Isheem Young won Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Freshman of the Year, respectively. Shoutout to 1st Team All-Big 12 TE Charlie Kolar as well, who was a consistent force making 1st/2nd Team all-conference in each of his 4 seasons.
5th Quarter
Iowa State fans, what do you look back more fondly on, the Matt Campbell years with expectations of competing for a Big 12 title, or the Paul Rhoads years with a win over #2 Oklahoma State and some other fun upsets? Do you think Brock Purdy was always as good as he played for the 49ers in 2022, or is he mostly propped up by a stacked San Francisco offense? Who was better, Troy Davis or Breece Hall? Does David Montgomery take the 3rd spot or does that go to someone like Darren Davis/Alexander Robinson? Aside from going there, what makes someone choose to follow Iowa State? And how’d I do on your guys’ history?

Money Markets, T-Bills, and Box Spreads Oh My! My Guide to Fixed Income Trading
Why trade fixed income? Why not be all 100% in equities? Why not be in leveraged equities?
Well, you certainly can! However having some sort of fixed-income allocation can lead to greater
risk-adjusted returns. Then for certain strategies, such as selling options to profit off theta and shorting volatility, stuffing your gains in a fixed income portfolio tends to be an excellent choice given how margin rules, house margin rules, etc., work on portfolio margin. You're already getting some significant returns on options trading:
- Volatility Risk Premium
- Equity Risk Premium equal to your delta or beta-weighted delta to spy
Options selling is its own type of asset allocation just like you have long equity positions, real estate, etc., and finally... fixed income. Many people including myself find paring short options with fixed income allocations tends to have higher risk-adjusted returns and easier portfolios to manage and hedge than adding long equity components.
Imagine being long spy at 200% leverage and maxed out on BP selling puts despite buying long puts to hedge out the components = hello margin call, hello breaking SUT all the time. I know, as I previously was!
Bond Basics
This guide is written that you have the understanding on how bonds work, maturity dates, coupon rates, yield curve rates, duration (interest-rate) risk, etc.
If you don't understand how they work - bogleheads.org has a wonderful article called
Bond Basics. Now I want to cover the most important decisions in picking your fixed income allocation: duration, type, and fund vs individual trades.
Picking Duration
The next critical decision is picking how long you want your fixed income to expire. Longer duration = more credit risk. If interest rates keep rising you'll have higher mark-to-market losses on your fixed income the further out duration goes. A good rule of thumb is 1 years duration = 1% NLV loss if interest rates increase by 1%.
So an ETF like VGSH has 1.9 years of duration, meaning they buy 1-3 year treasuries and so they're on average always expiring in 1.9 years. This is why the fund lost 6.6% in November 2022. If we
plot interest rates over a year the 2 year rate increased to 4.33% from 0.41%, or a 3.92% increase. Multiplying that by 1.9 duration = an estimated 7.4% loss by the rule of thumb, so the above ETF did well.
Duration is a
temporary risk. The new bonds are yielding higher rates, so as the fund sells old bonds and buys new bonds they start getting paid the higher rates. Another rule of thumb is duration = how many years until you break even on average. It's not guaranteed that you'll break even by that time, but you probabilistically will - given there are no more interest rate increases.
You will want to match your duration to when you need your money:
- Short term needs/closing losing positions: Under 1 year duration
- Known needs at fixed date (taxes, house purchase, etc.): Duration shortly before your needs of the money.
- Indefinite needs: 7-10 years duration (mathematically best back tests) or 30+ year durations (huge interest-rate risks and up to 30-40 years of out-performance or under-performance.)
Fixed-Income Type
The next critical decision is picking your type of fixed income. We have US Treasuries which are the safest and quoted for the
risk-free rate. We then have municipal bonds which are slightly more risky (imagine
investing in bonds that Detroit defaulted on.) Then followed that we have various other asset classes of bonds - corporate bonds (investment grade rated vs junk), mortgage backed securities, inflation protected securities (did horrible in 2022! did not perform to anyone's expectations.), and a bunch of other bond types.
Picking your fixed-income type is the second critical decision as what matters is known as
default-risk. Higher risk of default > higher interest rate. My recommendations are either sticking to US Treasuries or Investment-grade corporate bonds. Any other assets - mortgage backed securities, TIPS, junk bonds, etc., don't have a higher risk-adjusted return unless you have stock picking skills (and why waste that gift on fixed income? Well unless you're Bill Gross.)
ETFs vs Individual Bonds
The last critical decision is picking ETFs vs Individual Bonds.
ETF Pros:
- Convenience
- Mitigates individual default risk across 100s-thousands of issues.
- Liquid - even US Treasuries get really illiquid outside of t-bills
- Taxes - taxed just like any stock ETF. Doing taxes on individual bonds are the suck if you sell before maturity (including t-bills). You have to manually adjust your cost basis and fill out a phantom 1099 for the bonds you sell before maturity to report accrued interest vs capital gains. Brokers are only required to issue 1099s for matured bills.
Individual Bond Pros:
- Choice to hold to maturity to not realize NAV losses
- Less margin requirements than ETFs (1% to 7% for US Treasuries while ETFs are at minimum 3% - 7% to 15% at TD Ameritrade.)
- Ability to ladder bonds
Bogleheads.org has another great Wiki article on this decision:
Bogleheads.org Individual Bonds vs a Bond Fund My Favorite Bond ETFs
Here is a list of my favorite bond ETFs, their type & duration, and how much portfolio margin TD Ameritrade currently charges me:
- SGOV - 0-3 month T-Bill ETF. SGOV gets the same return as a very popular mutual fund - vmfxx - the vanguard federal money market fund. 7% Margin
- VGSH - 1-3 year Vanguard Treasury ETF. 3% Margin
- IEF - 7-10 year intermediate term US Treasury ETF. 7% Margin
- TLT - 20-30 year long-term US Treasury ETF. 7% Margin
- VTC - Vanguard Total Corporate Bond ETF. 30% Margin (ridiculous when SPY is 15%)
- iShares iBoxxInvestment Grade Corporate Bond ETF - LQD. 15% margin.
ETFs I don't like:
Total Bond Market (BND). It invests in all bonds in market cap weighting, which market cap weighting is a great idea for stocks, or for investment grade corporate bonds, but I feel it's a terrible idea for anyone else fixed income purposes.
Why do I want to sprinkle some long duration bonds that life insurance companies are buying to hedge their 30-year term life insurance policies with? Why follow market psychology on if more buyers decide to pull out of high yield savings accounts and buy a bunch of t-bills bidding down the interest rate? That'll cause total bond to sell off long-term treasuries just when they've taken a loss to buy billions/trillions more of market cap sticking it in 1-year t-bills. This is why it under-performs greatly as it's rebalancing into bad trades. Since it's a fund and we have low FDIC limits total bond can't even follow the complete market of HYSAs, bank CDs, and the like!
Doing market cap weighted corporate bonds make a lot more sense to me. It feels natural like following the crowd with equities, likewise following the crowd for the bonds those equities issue. You get a slightly higher return, roughly the same risk adjusted return, and you have slightly higher market correlation with corporate bonds than total-bond-market. A total corporate bond market fund tends to do better than the total bond market.
Hell even Long-Term US Treasuries does better than Total Bond Market. One really nice thing about long-term treasuries is they're typically inversely correlated to the stock market, which has a "rebalancing effect." In true stock market crashes NOT driven by rising interest rates (2020 covid, 2008, etc.), these guys tend to shoot up as we tend to cut interest rates to help stabilize equities. This is one thing that hurts having investment grade bonds as stock crashes = panic about equities = possibly rising defaults.
Speaking of iBoxx... I box too! I love box spreads which brings me to the next part of the guide! :D
SPX Box Spreads as a Borrowing and Lending Mechanism
Now that we understand how fixed income trading works, we can get the same return by trading box spreads on the S&P 500
European options or another euro option index.
Why European? So you don't get assigned early and blow up your box trades. If you still don't understand why I suggest uninstalling portfolio margin until you understand this.
There is a great website to price out box spreads -
Boxtrades.com If you want to be a lender and gain interest, you buy the box. As of writing this guide long boxes in SPX expiring 6 months from now in 17 Nov 23 are trading around 5.39% APR. Lending this trade will look something like this:
Lend 97,595 today, receive 100,000 on November 17th, 2023 Example trade Buy 1 SPX 17NOV23 4000 CALL Sell 1 SPX 17NOV23 4000 PUT Sell 1 SPX 17NOV23 5000 CALL Buy 1 SPX 17NOV23 5000 PUT
You can also borrow money and not pay margin interest on debit balances. Borrow a giant box and you can stop paying TD Ameritrade margin interest! :D
Borrow 97,595 today, repay 100,000 on November 17th, 2023 Example trade Sell 1 SPX 17NOV23 4000 CALL Buy 1 SPX 17NOV23 4000 PUT Buy 1 SPX 17NOV23 5000 CALL Sell 1 SPX 17NOV23 5000 PUT
My updated experience trading box spreads
Ever since the website boxtrades.com was published - spreads have tightened considerably. They are
very liquid now
no matter what strikes. They tend to trade at 0-30 basis points above US treasuries in a normal market, sometimes below treasuries when we're having a debt ceiling crisis lol.
They are very liquid for $50k or more orders. Under $50k my experience is you might have a 50 basis point spread against market makers. Above 50k the spread feels to be around 10-20 basis points for long or short. I like to wait 2-3 minutes trying to fill a box as either as a lender or seller (I've done both now!), and give up some edge if it doesn't fill in the next few minutes.
Need some money fast from box spreads? Let's say you have 1m invested but only need 100k. Remember you don't have to close your position or buy lots of contracts to have that flexibility (ie 10x 100k trades.) You can always put on a really wide box spread then short/borrow smaller spreads with different strikes in the same expiration! It will all net out! For instance I could have 2 5,000 point spreads for $1m and save on # contracts, then sell the 1,000 wide spread if I needed 100k cash.
Box Spreads vs T-Bills/other income
Box Spread Pros:
- Saves tons of Fed Tax. They are section 1256 contracts, meaning they are 60% long term and 40% short term capital gains regardless of the holding period with zero wash sales.
- At highest tax brackets = (.60 * .238 + .40 * .408) = 30.6% effective after tax rate. You're paying 40.8% on short-term income.
- For borrowing - automatically get capital losses which offsets capital gains on your leveraged positions, and allowing you to offset 3k of capital losses against ordinary income, letting you carry over unused losses indefinitely. You have to itemize for margin interest and that currently only offsets interest income and short-term capital gains.
- Very little margin requirements, mine varies between $0 bp to 1% BP.
- Very liquid, almost as liquid as t-bills. (T-bills are 5-10 basis points of spread.)
- Able to close easily on mobile vs owning t-bills outright at TD Ameritrade.
Box Spread Cons:
- Still owe state tax. In California you could be paying up to 12.3% state tax. Box spreads at the highest tax rates is 42.9% in California. If you're in CA you're better off with T-bills for the same interest rate and duration.
- Slight risk of default. The Options Clearing Corporation is your counter party to all option trades including long box spreads. If the entire brokerage eco-system went under you might have defaults. This was a feasibility in 2008 with all the derivates trading passed around like a drunk whore in a trading pit. That's why 2008 was so scary.
- Owe taxes on the mark-to-market value every year instead of at maturity. (Could also be a pro, less income in higher brackets at maturity!)
- Fidelity Portfolio Margin Team doesn't understand European exercises and are really harsh on them. (Or they don't like the lost margin interest income for borrowers.) (TD Ameritrade used to be the same way, it'd reject wide short box spreads on SPX and I had to trade lots of contracts to borrow money. It has since been fixed.)
- Withdrawals might be blocked by a not well-trained margin team member not understanding your box trades. I had this happen once for a 4pm withdrawal when the PM desk had already went home and a Reg-T guy was going wtf even though I had plenty of BP and was under SUT. Yes brokers review your account before every withdrawal is officially processed.
- Uses lots of orders/time to get filled if you want the best interest rate.
- They only go out 4-5 years, I can't box at 7-10+ rates.
- Bad Mark Risk. End of December 31st the OCC uses the last trade of each contract to determine your tax reporting mark-to-market value. You either need to pay the MM spread to have a trade recorded that day to get an accurate M2M value on each contract of your box trades or only trade liquid strikes that have a lot of trade activity besides boxes! Sadly my previous quoting trick didn't help one bit for M2M values!
Boxtrades.com Website Issues
- Data is a day's old. It doesn't show real time data.
- They don't properly account for settlement dates in their interest rate calculations and are off by 1 day. So over 30 days a off by 1 day is a 1/30 = a 3.33% error band. At 5% interest that is a 0.165% error. I'd try to fill at least 30 days+ if you base your rates off the website's calculations. Or calculate interest rate manually given that fact. The proper interest calculation is settlement to settlement of when cash enters/leaves your account.
TD Ameritrade Box Spread Issues
- Your weekend NLV shows super high for expiring short boxes or super low for expiring long boxes as they're not debiting/crediting the cash you receive as you don't receive that until they officially settle on Monday. It's ok, you'll get the cash!
- Possibly blocked on withdrawals even if you have plenty of BP if Portfolio Margin Team isn't around when you make the withdrawal request. Make withdrawal requests before 4pm eastern when the PM margin team is present. The Reg-T margin staff don't seem to understand box spread trades.
- TOS shows you getting SPX AM settled boxes money on Friday of settlement. This is an annoying display bug. You don't get your money until Monday when they settle, as its T+1 from when the settlement value is recorded and the SET index can't be computed until Monday in the morning when the SPX has fully opened, which can be 1-2 hours after exchanges start trading. You'll pay margin interest if you time trades thinking box spread money is settled on Friday due to this display bug!
Box Spread FAQ
- Aren't they illiquid? No, not really, you're just not trying hard enough to get filled. For a 50k box the spread is 30-50 basis points, which is $150-$250 extra if it's a whole year out. Going past 50k the spread gets almost as tight as treasuries! What market maker wouldn't want to profit $150 risk free by filling both sides?
- Do I have to sell my entire position if I need cash? No, you can "borrow" against your long position by selling different strikes in the same expiration. It all nets out on expiration! Minimize your number of contracts then borrow smaller amounts if you need to.
- Counter Party Risk? The Options Clearing Corporation as explained earlier. Ironically box spreads seems safer right now than short-dated t-bills with the debt ceiling crisis!
- How wide boxes? Wider = less contracts and lower commissions. 1000 wide as quoted by boxtrades.com = really liquid since others are trading them. Market makers care about the total notional size of the order, so if you're certain you don't need the cash save the commissions.
- Can I trade boxes on Reg-T? No, not really, its a portfolio-margin trade. Depending on the broker they might reserve 30% of buying power easily for this trade, possibly 100% buying power. Ouch.
- How far out? See the part that talks about duration risk. Rule of thumb: 1 year = 1% NLV gain or loss if interest rates changed by 1%.
- Should I use PM settlement boxes? Unfortunately boxtrades.com only has AM settlement options data so you'd have the con of calculating your own interest rates. You have the same con of Friday expiring PM settled boxes showing NLV bugs on TD Ameritrade's website. Holding to expiration and not seeing NLV glitches = only trading monday-thursday PM settled boxes, which only trade up to 39~ days to expiration. I'm sticking with AM settled box trades.
- Can I withdraw cash from shorting the box? Yes, yes you can, up to your available cash to withdraw/buying poweas long as your other house margin rules are in check (SUT, beta testing to SPX, etc.) PM accounts + Short Box spreads make for excellent vehicles to borrow against stock vs pledged asset lines.
- Can I expire out of box spreads? Absolutely! I prefer doing that vs spending the orders to roll the trade early unless I want NLV screenshots for bragging purposes.

2023.06.02 04:58 Anxious_Grover 5th Gen A Spec - Talk me out of it
I'm trading my GT line Stinger in. I've had it 3.5 years and put a whopping 12k miles on it. I was promoted to a new position that requires significant travel (for me anyway). I was looking at the CTR but the 4 seat thing killed it...and I need a highway car so the mpg sucked. Then the Civic SI (which is selling for 36k locally with markups). Someone pointed me at the Integra.
I am 99% sure I'm buying an A spec with tech package tomorrow for 36,500. Talk me out of it...I want to make the right decision.
I want a manual transmission sedan that's sporty and fun, moddable eventually. Need seating for 5 (take my 4 kids to school or pick them up from school at least 3 times a week). High mpg with good tech options and luxury. My budget is up to 50k (I'd prefer 40k) right now and I plan to pay cash. I don't race or drive like an idiot but I'm still worried about going from a 4.7s to 7s+ 0-60 but there's nothing else anywhere near that with my budget.
I considered the Elantra N but the markups are also high and the interior sucks. Also the GLI but VW reliability for high mileage is very hit or miss.

2023.06.01 21:32 Financial-Diver6005 How Would You Invest In A Economy That Is Collapsing?
Hey! I live in Turkey, which has inflation rate of 60-70% (which we don't trust, these datas are given by government :)) , interest rate is 8.5% right now but the government says "interest rate causes inflation, so we will decrease interest rate.". And we have a currency crisis for several years, Turkish Lira has lost 94.35% value since 2008 (Back then 1$=0.85 Turkish Lira, but now 1$=0.048 TL). Real estate prices are extreme, we should pay a large amount of money (Average monthly salary is 10.000 TL and if we have house loan, we should pay 20-30k per month.) for minimum 20-30 years. What would you do if you would be here? What would you invest in this kind of economy? And please explain it like I'm a common citizen, because I'm a normal citizen that who don't want to be crushed by this inflation. (Sorry for my English, I may have some issues with grammar or economic terms. :))

2023.06.01 17:58 PennyworthInvesting Canada Nickel Continues to Intersect High-grade, Near-surface Mineralization at Texmont Project
| Canada Nickel Company Inc. (TSXV: CNC) (OTCQX: CNIKF) today reported that assay results from its final 11 drill holes at its Texmont Project have confirmed continued high-grade, near-surface mineralization. These results represent the final assays from the 39-drill-hole program undertaken at Texmont in the winter of 2022-2023. Highlights - Assay results from final 11 drillholes confirm continued high-grade near-surface mineralization within thick mineralized sections
- Seven of 11 holes intersected nickel grades > 1% and all 11 holes intersected nickel grades >0.5%
- Hole TXT23-39 intersected 3.0 metres of 2.31% nickel within 15.0 metres of 0.83% nickel within 90.0 metres of 0.34% nickel starting at 12 metres
- Hole TXT23-36 intersected 3.0 metres of 2.34% nickel within 12.0 metres of 1.06% nickel within 96.5 metres of 0.36% nickel starting at 4.5 metres
Latest Drill Results The drill results further confirm the interpretation of the Texmont deposit, as displaying zoning in its mineralization, with a higher-grade core >1.0% nickel ranging between 2 to 8 metres thick, encompassed by moderate-high grade mineralization of 0.6-1.0% nickel between 12 to 25 metres thick and surrounded by lower grade mineralization of 0.25% and higher, with widths up to 150 metres (see Tables 1 and 2). Mineralization has been drilled to a vertical depth of 444 metres and remains open at depth. Canada Nickel expects to produce a mineral resource estimate on the Texmont Project later this year using the 28,884 metres of drilling completed during the previous 2006 -2008 drill program and 9,726 metres in the current 2022-2023 program. This resource will form part of a PEA expected by the end of 2023. Table 1: Texmont exploration drilling results - high grade highlights *Drillhole length, true thickness not calculated. The remaining six drillholes were drilled in the northern half of the property, testing the strike length extent of the mineralization. Drillholes TXT23-24, TXT23-29, TXT23-30, TXT23-31 and TXT23-33 in the southern half of the property all intersected varying degrees of mineralization predominantly hosted in peridotites and to a lesser extent in adjacent mineralized komatiites. All drillholes cut across the interpreted low to moderate to high grade shells, with the best intersection in hole TXT23-30 at 1.34% Ni over 8.5 metres within a moderate-high grade shell of 0.83% Ni over 19.5 metres, within a low grade shell of 0.22% Ni over 127.4 metres. Holes TXT23-29 and TXT23-30 were drilled sub-parallel to strike to test the presence of inferred cross cutting faults, as well as to confirm the continuity of the mineralized shells (low, moderate and high) across geologic sections in an area of the mineralization where existing underground infrastructure makes it difficult to drill on-section. The six remaining holes drilled in the north section of the property (Figure 2) all intersected varying degrees of nickel mineralization, with holes TXT23-32 and TXT23-35 having the best results, intersecting high grade nickel very close to surface, with overburden less than 5.5 metres in TXT23-35. TXT23-35 intersected 9.0 metres of 1.03 % nickel, within a larger section of 25.5 metres of 0.72% nickel, within an overall mineralized envelope of 174.5 metres grading 0.30% nickel. Assays, Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Drilling and Assay Edwin Escarraga, MSc, P.Geo., a “qualified person” as defined by National Instrument 43-101, is responsible for the on-going drilling and sampling program, including quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC). The core is collected from the drill in sealed core trays and transported to the core logging facility. The core is marked and sampled at 1.5 metre lengths and cut with a diamond blade saw. One set of samples is transported in secured bags directly from the Canada Nickel core shack to Actlabs Timmins, while a second set of samples is securely shipped to SGS Lakefield for preparation, with analysis performed at SGS Burnaby or SGS Callao (Peru). All are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited labs. Analysis for precious metals (gold, platinum, and palladium) are completed by Fire Assay while analysis for nickel, cobalt, sulphur and other elements are performed using a peroxide fusion and ICP-OES analysis. Certified standards and blanks are inserted at a rate of 3 QA/QC samples per 20 core samples making a batch of 60 samples that are submitted for analysis. Qualified Person and Data Verification Stephen J. Balch P.Geo. (ON), VP Exploration of Canada Nickel and a “qualified person” as is defined by National Instrument 43-101, has verified the data disclosed in this news release, and has otherwise reviewed and approved the technical information in this news release on behalf of Canada Nickel Company Inc. The magnetic images shown in this press release were created from Canada Nickel’s interpretation of datasets provided by the Ontario Geological Survey. submitted by PennyworthInvesting to pennystocks [link] [comments] |
