I've owned two of these monitors now, and both have had what seems to be the same issue with dust or something behind the panel and in front of the actual screen. Here are two examples

I'm having a relatively difficult time getting my phone to capture the phenomenon accurately, it's much more obvious in real life once you know it's there. I think it's a piece of dust or something about two pixels in height. It's immediately visible on any solid color background and it's relatively central in location. My previous panel had 3 of these dust spots (no pictures unfortunately). The current panel just has the one, but it's very centrally located (in a 1280x720 window in the center of the monitor). If it wasn't so central, I could probably ignore it.
Both panels came from the same manufacturing batch, so I'm wondering if it's an issue with that batch, the monitor in general, or if I'm just getting unlucky with my panels.
It seems like I'll be returning it and trying my luck with a third panel. I do love the monitor, but the dust problem is quite annoying and I don't know if I want to keep playing the lottery for a monitor with actual QC behind it.
My question to other GP27Q owners is this: do you have the same or similar issues? If so, do you know when/where your monitor was manufactured?

Guy at my meeting last night said something I really like so I'm stealing it now. Paraphrasing:

I read a lot here and felt the urge to share a personal update/growth.
Since I was young I had a near-obsession with body swapping, always MTF, which of course later in life I realized was my way of AGP. I’ve crossdressed at home on occasion, but it was never a huge turn on for me.
Over a year ago, I went cold turkey on indulging my fetish/AGP. It was hard at first, and I have slipped up a many times, but all this time later I rarely find myself fantasizing about being a woman or body swapping while going about my day like I used to. I still picture myself as the girl with porn at times, but even that isn’t as strong as it used to be. When I do feel urges, they are minuscule compared to what it used to be.
I’m noticing I’m doing better talking with girls IRL, and have actually been out on a few dates with girls I’d consider “out of my league,” which has been a great confidence booster, too. None have worked out long term, but a little progress is still progress.
I’m not writing this to discourage anyone with their journey, I just felt led to share my story. At one time, I assumed I’d spend my life alone due to this obsession, but now, I feel it having less and less power over me especially as I exercise, focus on other things, and try to meet and date girls in real life.
My top tips: 1.) cut back on the porn. I know it’s hard, and I still backslide, but less consumption has done good for me. 2.) if you’re straight, try dating IRL. It can be hard to approach a girl, but doing so helped me feel brave and like I really have something to offer a woman as a man. 3.) exercise! I’m in no shape to call myself a body builder or anything, but the endorphins from exercising help me feel more “at home” in my body (that’s my theory, anyway) 4.) picture your life 10 years from now. Would you be happy if nothing changed? I realized I’d be miserable if my AGP dominated me to the point that I couldn’t be with a woman IRL, so I used that fear as a challenge to see if I could make a difference, and so far, it’s working!
Please don’t berate me for sharing, I’m only posting this in hopes that someone else struggling might see that there could be hope to “beat” this. I never would’ve thought I could, but I’m sitting here in awe of my progress and feeling confident I can continue on :)

Just context, you can skip this long ass read. Tl;dr, everything was okay, for several years of varying stress levels, until it VERY suddenly wasn't. If you can, at least just skim the important bits and advise me on how the fuck to cope with this.
Everything was okay around a month ago. Our situation hasn't been good, but we were handling it and excited for a growth opportunity like we've never had.
She has PTSD, but she's always managed herself well, aside from a brief period years back where some impending doom set in while confronting some of her trauma. She sought out therapy, and even just by the end of her first session she was improving a ton. It wasn't long before she was back to her normal self, but even better for it.
Problem is, we've been under tremendous stress for around two years.
Our rescue macaw passed away from a viral wasting disease, and he was the closest thing we'd had to a child. We had him for most of our ten years together.
We had our (rental) home sold out from under us in the middle of a rental crisis. Basically the only option we had left was to move in with her family 2,400 miles away, onto their ranch. She couldn't continue therapy when we moved.
They were contributors to her childhood traumas, but she was so sure they'd changed and were ready to be the people she needed them to be many years ago.
I was extremely skeptical that the people who hadn't extended a finger to us, let alone a hand, through several years of struggling through a lot of hard shit, suddenly wanted to give us a near-free ride. But I think her sheer optimism for it just made me feel like I was being an awful cynic, so I just shoved it down and bought into her fantasy. For her sake, as I thought at the time. Maybe she was right, after all.
She was wrong, and it went about as well as you'd expect. Honestly probably a lot worse. Her grandmother and father are manipulative, narcissistic assholes, whether or not they realize that's what they are. They bait and switched on us hard, whether they meant to or not.
The picture that was painted was that we'd live in the spare trailer on their property and pay our portion of the taxes and the insurance, and obviously just do our share of stuff like yard work. Maybe occasionally helping out with some cows and fences.
We spent most of our savings to get there, and after a four and a half day U-Haul trip, they started moving us in.. to her grandmother's house. In a tiny spare room. For two (at the time) 26 year old adults, a dog, a cat, and a snake. We had to get a storage unit for the vast majority of our stuff, since we'd had nearly ten years of building a life together in the back of that truck.
That spare trailer stayed empty for the whole year and a half of us being there, by the way.
All the responsibilities were then handed off to us. We were expected to cook the meals for everyone, clean the house, do all the ranch work, fix anything that broke, etc.. Her father and grandmother just sat in bed, collected their retirement/inheritance/disability, and popped their pills.
Then on top of it, we were also expected to pay "half" of the bills, so we had to find employment on top of all the other full-time responsibilities.
We weren't allowed to see the bills, they would just tell us what we owed, but I'll tell you right now that I'd never in twelve years of being out on my own now, in comparably sized homes, paid $800 for a month of electricity. But allegedly the "half" we were expected to pay was $400.
My grandfather passed away, and I soft inherited my grandparents' property. My grandfather and I never had a good relationship, so it was a huge surprise. But with what little we'd managed to save up in that time, it got us off her family's ranch, and it also got us out of the vicious poverty inducing rent cycle, so it seemed like we'd finally gotten a massive break.
Then the housing problems set in.
I've replaced about half of the plumbing myself, because new stuff just kept breaking down all the time.
I wasn't confident doing a new gas water heater myself, so we had to get work to save up for a new one. Until that indeterminate future date, we had to boil water on the stove and shower with a pitcher out of a cooler. We took it in humor as best as we could.
Then our vehicles started breaking down, and became unreliable enough we couldn't leave the small town we're living in. Our savings at that point weren't nearly enough to get new vehicles, or even to get the level of work required done in a shop, and I didn't have the means to do that level of work.
She's been in healthcare (a very desperate field) for her whole working life, and is a fantastic worker, so she found work right away, four minutes from our house.
I sat on Google refreshing the job listing probably forty times per day, looking for anything even marginally close enough that the car could make it to, and I could plausibly continue to find a way to work even if it suddenly couldn't. I've done remote work before and would've been happy to go that route again.. except the best we get here is 7mbps internet, and I couldn't find a single fucking place that would accept that.
We're an equal home. Bills, large purchases that benefit both of us, food, housework, everything except stuff like the vehicle/house maintenance which she wasn't comfortable doing (though even that she was interested in learning). This was killing me to feel like I was leaching off of her, and I know it was really stressing her out being the only source of income.
Then set in the job problems. Put simply, she'd wound up in a very toxic work environment. To make matters worse, one of the people there is almost like a 40 year younger version of her grandmother, whom we'd just escaped.
My S.O. started to lose her identity there, just trying to mask and mirror her way through the social dynamics, which were more like a cliquey high school than a workplace. She felt her job depended on it. Gossip, cruelty, passive aggression, all completely out of character for her, but she felt like she didn't have a choice but to participate in it.
The manager also didn't want to do her own job, and given my S.O.'s glowing experience, resume, and letter of recommendation from her previous job, started putting the job of managing people on her..
But without the title, authority, or pay of a manager. So naturally, nobody gave a shit what she had to say. It still all fell down onto her anyway, and she was treated like shit every time her attempts to lead didn't go as they should've.
But she felt she couldn't leave, because the way she (understandably) saw it, our survival depended on it.
I did finally find work as lower management in a small casino in town, but she never lost that survival mode mindset, and had no interest in quitting despite all the stress it was putting on her.
How we landed here, per the title. This is where my heart breaks down completely. Mostly for her, but quite honestly, also for myself
About three weeks ago, she came home from work one day. She started her normal "today's bullshit at work" vent session, like we've always done for each other every day.. but this was different. First she seemed a bit disconnected, but it quickly devolved into extreme emotional reactions.
All of a sudden she starts talking about how everyone's behavior is changing around her. Suddenly the girls at work were chipper and kind. Everyone was doing their job correctly. She became convinced there was some kind of investigation for a hostile work environment or something happening, and that was causing the change.
It didn't seem totally out of the realm of possibility, especially because they'd just finished berating a transgender coworker out of there. And my S.O. has always been pretty sound of mind (albeit occasionally a little prone to unlikely fantasies of optimism, but I personally love that about her despite what it had just resulted in with her family). I agreed that it did sound like a possibility.
Pretty quick, she started getting squinty-eyed, told me my behavior has been changing too, and started asking me what I knew about the investigation. Caught me completely off guard, and I guess she saw that in my body language, but misread it as me trying to hide something.
She asked me what I was hiding, and at this point I was just massively confused how this went from a normal vent session about work, like we've had for ten years, to an interrogation.
Before I could answer, suddenly she jumps to angrily asking if I'm cheating on her, a look of almost intense hatred in her widened eyes.
Every question just confusing me more in terms of where she's getting any of this from. We have great communication, loyalty, honesty, trust, the whole package. I had no idea what was happening.
She ran to the bedroom and started packing to leave, and I was begging her to slow down and stop so I could catch up on what the fuck was happening. She told me I was in on the investigation but wouldn't tell her anything, and I was cheating on her with one of her coworkers (who has a loose link to my boss at the casino.. small town shit), and that's all she needed to know.
It finally clicked for me that this was some kind of stress breakdown, and I suggested as much. She finally slowed down and thought about it. Suddenly she's calling her sister, who lives in a completely different state a thousand plus miles away, surrounded by ocean. "Do you know anything about an investigation? Have any of the girls from my work contacted you?"
Her sister was also caught off guard, but honestly responded much better than I did, and I'll always feel like my uncoordinated response did damage here. Maybe because they share a lot of the same traumatic experiences, and the diagnosis, so she understood what was happening much more quickly? I'm not sure.
My S.O. backed down, had a good long cry while we cuddled, and it seemed like that was it. She understood that it was some kind of mental snap, and her grip on reality had basically fully returned. She said she didn't think she could go back to work there, and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agreed after what I'd just witnessed. WHOLE. FUCKING. HEARTEDLY. Scared the shit out of me, but after hours of it, I was just glad it was over.
The next day, "I just wish someone would be honest with me. There is FACTUALLY an investigation happening, you all know something about it, and I know you're cheating on me. I need to just get away from everyone." Cue an hours long conversation trying to talk her down again, but this time on my own, because she'd decided her sister "wasn't in the loop enough to see what was going on anyway."
It went on like this for about three weeks. Off and on. All day. All night. Moment of clarity, back down the rabbit hole 30 minutes later. Moment of clarity, back down the rabbit hole.
She started making all these "seeing god in the stars" types of connections. Suddenly everyone on Facebook knew something she didn't now too, evidenced by how these posts they're sharing relate back to it. My family was also allegedly talking about her mental breakdown on Facebook, which meant that I'd told them everything about it and taken away her choice to control that information.
Neither of us were sleeping, eating, drinking, basically neglecting all forms of self care to sit there and hash, rehash, and rehash this out again. I'd guess I was averaging 5 hours of sleep per week, right alongside her, while still having to go to work and pretend everything was fine.
I tried to suggest returning to therapy god knows how many times, or even something in-patient since this was SO much worse than her last episode years back, but initially she was convinced this was me trying to manipulate her. Gaslight her. Convince her she's crazy.
I tried to get her to just think it through, like what evidence does she actually have for any of it beyond her gut feeling? The evidence doesn't exist because we're all smart enough to get rid of it and keep it from her. She just kept repeating that she trusts her body, and that's all she needed.
During one of her moments of clarity, she finally booked a therapy appointment.. but unfortunately not through her old therapist, who had been fantastic with her. She no longer lives here. Instead, she went through that BetterHelp app.
Her first appointment, she starts going into the stuff she needs to get working through, and in response she gets, "Holy smokes!" Yeah. That's it. Holy smokes. To be clear here, this is evidently not a platform for people in crisis, this is a platform for people whose dad yelled at them that one time and it makes them sad to think about, because these people are clearly not equipped for anything more serious than that. What kind of fucking psychology professional responds like that?
Anyway, the therapist also went on to say about the job situation, "I would've quit too." Now, this seems innocent enough when you're dealing with someone who's with it, but my S.O.'s currently fractured mind took that as validation for everything, not just the general toxicity of the work environment like the therapist was speaking to. Again, a psychology professional should've known better. And it was back on full force for a while.
A massive divergence happened a few days after this. I'm not even sure how or why. We had our usual rehashing session, and suddenly.. she just accepted it. She accepted that she's in perpetual fight or flight mode right now, and her mind is looking for any explanation to grasp at, any possible danger imaginable. She just had to trust us, the people who've loved and supported her all along and have no reason to betray her, and keep with the therapy.
For three or four days, she was totally with it. I mean, almost fully back to normal. All apologies for what she put us through, all forgiveness and "just happy to have you back" from us. Then on the final night, she sees that my step mother is Facebook friends with one of her coworkers. And we're back on.
Fast forward to the past few days, and she's become very despondent about the way she's feeling. She's fairly consistently aware that something is happening to her internally, rather than externally with everyone else, basically just seeking regular reassurances that we're being as honest as possible about everything. But her fight or flight just.. Will. Not. Disengage.
We had a conversation about trying another therapist, and she agreed, but she still didn't feel she needed in-patient care. She booked an in person session with one who specializes in behavioral health and trauma.
Then she starts experiencing distortions in her perception. Shadows when she closes her eyes. Rooms appearing smaller than they should. The voice track on TV shows not appearing to line up with actors' lip movements. Just little distortions, but they scared the absolute living shit out of her.
That fear led to some horrific dissociation, where it's like she's losing context on everything. She doesn't know what's happening and feels like nothing is real anymore. Nothing makes sense.
She was still stuck on there being an investigation, but it was evolving. It wasn't her old job being investigated anymore, it was her father for child abuse from when she was young. Then it was us for neglecting our pets (because we don't take our snake out very often and occasionally forget a regular nail trimming for the dog, but they're otherwise very well cared for). Then it was her father again, but for elder abuse, because her grandmother (who insists on managing her own medications) accidentally overdosed one day.
She became even more despondent, frequently breaking out into panic attacks and crying fits, which I just continued to try and help her through. Ice packs, reassurances that she was safe, there was no threat, etc. Truth be told, I was terrified too.
Finally, two days before her appointment, she had a massive panic attack about it being Memorial Day weekend. She couldn't explain why, just that it didn't make sense. She finally says she thinks she needs a hospital, which she's been completely opposed to until this point.
I rushed her to the emergency room, and that was a mess because it was the middle of the night so they couldn't find a bed anywhere in a more appropriate facility that late. They didn't really have any mental health resources themselves, so all they could do was give her some medications to calm her nerves and help her sleep through the night until they could find a bed.
The hospital.. was not good for her either. After a while, she just kept begging me to take her home. She just wanted to sleep together in our own bed, but they'd decided that between the bouts of confusion, paranoia, and admitting that she has had thoughts of suicide in the past, she was a danger to herself and couldn't leave.
They took her phone, leaving her in a blank room, and thanks to her work and the fact the most recent retraumatizing came from a healthcare environment, constantly triggered by the sounds of call lights and such in the emergency room outside.
All I could do was hold her, and keep reminding her that she's safe, and that everyone there just wants to help, but they're just limited in the ways they can until they find a bed somewhere. She just kept repeating that she wasn't actually getting any treatment, and to be fair she basically wasn't, but I just had to keep asking her to hold out a little longer, because they were trying to find her a facility that had the ability to.
They did finally, this morning, but it was about 130 miles away. They let me take her there myself though, which was a huge plus to know we'd get that last bit of time together.
On the way, however, she starts telling me how horrible of a person she is. At one point, she asks if I'm taking her to prison. I asked her what she could possibly go to prison for, and she just says incredibly minor things from the past like downloading a movie, (very rarely) doing this or that drug, etc.
I just kept reassuring her that I'm taking her to a crisis center where they'll be able to help her figure out where this is coming from, and that in no way is she in trouble legally. Everyone involved in this just wants to help her.
It's at this point I realize.. they took her phone. All these little connections she was making via Facebook and such, suddenly unavailable. She'd also decided once and for all that I wasn't the problem. So now all she had left was herself. She was being held at the hospital against her will. The "investigation" was no longer into her work, it was into her, because that's all that was left.
She tells me she's going to go away (to prison) for a long time, but to just know how much she loves me. She wishes we could've just had a simple life together, but she ruined that for us. She was just so sorry. I just kept reassuring her that nothing was ruined, and we can and will still work towards that life together, she just needs help that's beyond what I can provide so we can get back to that.
Then finally, after a long goodbye.. I dropped her off.
The facility is very small (literally a regular house in a regular neighborhood, so only a few patients getting a lot of 1x1 care), and very soft spoken and compassionate staff. Practically everything is optional right down to the daily therapy, which made me really happy to hear given it seems like that should ease her mind on the prison train of thought. She's even allowed to leave for good whenever she wants, with the one caveat being that I or a family member would need to pick her up.
It doesn't have visiting hours though, and I couldn't even go in with her.. that kills me. They don't have HIPAA forms, so just walking through the door is a violation. But she gets to keep her phone at all times with the exception of bedtime, just to make sure she gets some sleep. She told me a bit ago that she's nervous coming into this new environment, but everyone there has been nothing but incredibly welcoming and empathetic towards her.
Not to make this situation about me, because it's so far from it, but my heart is just so broken.
I've never felt anything so horrible. Not even remotely close. I feel like I, myself, need therapy after this.
I'm still so confused. Did I just miss the cracks of this coming on? Or was it really that sudden? I swear I would've noticed her behavior change.
I'm so angry with her toxic fucking coworkers, who it seems like ultimately sent her into this downward spiral. I'm so angry with her family for being.. well, who they are.
I'm so angry with myself for not trying harder to get her to leave that job sooner, just because I didn't want to press the issue since she's her own person and capable of making her own decisions. But I saw the stress it was putting on her. I should've done more.
I'm so scared of what comes next. Will she ever normalize out and heal? If so, when? Days? Weeks? Months? How is this experience going to change her? Admittedly, given we live in the US, how in the fuck are we going to afford this (though as long as she's getting the help she needs, that's far from my primary concern, but still something I have to figure out)?
It feels like my whole world came crashing down around me. She is my person. She's one of the biggest reasons I get out of bed in the morning. My favorite parts of the day are crawling into bed together and waking up to each other, like we've been doing for ten fucking years.
Her absence in our home is utterly suffocating, knowing the hell she's going through while there's practically nothing I can do for her except be there for her when she wants to text or talk on the phone.
I doubt anyone is going to read this whole book I've written here, but just being able to type it all out sequentially like this has been a bit cathartic. But I still just have no idea how to feel. What to do. I'm so lost.

so that’s what i’m going to do here, be prepared for my story lol. i really hope someone else who struggles with this will see this. i’ve never been able to talk to someone who understands. only my therapist but i can’t tell him everything without getting reported. i won’t talk about my past obsessions because they don’t feel relevant right now but i’ll talk about my current one. two years ago i met a guy, he was 19. he was teaching me an instrument but that part has become a huge trigger for me so i’ll just call him a “tutor”. i saw him once a week for an hour. i very quickly started fantasizing about him. every night before bed i would imagine him here with me, i found him on instagram and i would sleep with a picture of him right next to me so it could be more “real”. every morning i instantly woke up and got the picture of him back up on my phone so i could imagine waking up next to him. he would then get ready to go to school with me, come to all my classes with me, eat lunch with me, help me with homework, and then played video games with me when i got home. except he was never actually there, i was just imagining him. whenever he came to my house i was convinced he wanted to hookup with me but was nervous to say something because of our illegal age gap. so i made as many sexual jokes and references as i could to make him “get the hint”. after two months of seeing him, so 8 total meetings he texted my mom one day saying he can’t keep seeing me and i’ll have to find someone else to teach me. i was eating chili from a big blue bowl when i heard the news. i went to the bathroom and instantly threw up, then didn’t leave the bathroom for two days. i just sat there staring at a picture of him the whole time. i only peed once and ate three granola bars in those two days. after that is when the delusions started getting really bad. i’ve been through this many times before so i knew what was going to happen. instead of having about 6 hours of time fantasizing about him everyday it turned into about 12 hours. i was so angry at him i wanted to kidnap him and scream at him about how much i love him until he’d realize that i’m the only good person for him and he’d love me back. i found his address, family, friends, etc. i would check their social medias basically every hour to see if anyone was with him at the time. i no longer have any violent delusions towards him but i still spend every second of everyday thinking that he’s here with me. i spend hours everyday walking around my house and telling him about new things that i got or what art project i’m currently working on, even if i’ve already told him about it multiple times that day. i stand in my room talking out loud to him for hours because i’m convinced he’s here and loves me back. then when i finally snap out of it it only feels like a few minutes passed but really it was hours. i still check all his social medias multiple times a day and try to reach out to him every few months. i really want this to stop so i can have my life back but i’m so scared. it feels like i’ll be killing the thing that has controlled my life for 7 years now. i feel like life would be so lonely and cold without him here with me. i just don’t know what to do anymore. i also really don’t want my parents knowing because they’ll think i’m crazy and never look at me the same again. do i need antipsychotics? i think i should wait until i’m 18 and get them without parent permission and maybe i can hide it from them or something? i don’t know, but i know this has to stop. i can’t keep living like this forever. i feel so trapped

CSF or Sinuses?
Septoplasty, Polyp Removal, Turbinates, Sinus Surgery 3 weeks ago
Hello everyone. I recently had turbinate reduction, septoplasty, and a polyp removed 3 weeks ago. I did my nasal rinses and everything has been going fine. 6 days ago I was reaching down in bathroom and saw this brownish fluid drip out like water. So then I was turning my ear towards ceiling to get it all out. The night after I did a sinus rinse again and woke up every hour with fluid dripping from nose. Over the last 4-5 days I stopped doing sinus rinses and the fluid has turned to a more light yellow color. Leaks lot less now. Mostly when brushing teeth or leaning down etc. When I wipe it with a tissue the tissue hardens after where the yellow fluid is. If it was xanochromia or csf leak I would know right? Besides the leak I feel somewhat fine. No real headache or discomfort. Been going to gym etc. Should I go to urgent care or just wait for my ENT appointment in 2 weeks.

Just something fun, you how some anime have an Alice in Wonderland Parody episode and all the characters in that anime place the role of an Alice in Wonderland character and of course the main character of the series has to be Alice: Black Butler in Wonderland aka Ciel in Wonderland and the ouran highschool host club Alice in Wonderland episode for examples.
But what if Saint Seiya had that, and yes we can go over The Looking Glass too because I already can see it for Two Minor Bronze Saints and Two minor Alice in Wonderland characters who fight each other....if you are an Alice in Wonderland enthusias whatever you know who I'm talking about.
Like this is the result I want to try and get;
Shun as Alice: Because he has as personality fitting Alice and blah blah blah everything else you want to put.
Saori as The Queen of Heart: she definitely can play it perfectly with her role as Athena.
Ban and Jabu are the Lion and the unicorn.
That's basically the way for me to put it, think of your ideal Saint Seiya Wonderland and how you picture it would be if it were real.....we can go into fanfiction if that's necessary.

I've downloaded two wardrobe apps and I'm finding them surprisingly useful in a couple key ways, so I thought I'd share.
OpenWardrobe: Free
Features: multiple wardrobes (plus some vague lookbook functions), a Chrome extension (very helpful for those of you who use Pinterest to keep track of your wardrobe, as I do. Also the extension is integrated with a number of stores, so you can go to the product page and use the OW extension there and the information will auto populate, an AI bot who suggests outfits, share wardrobes with friends. A sprinkling of educational videos + creator content available as well.
How I'm using it: AI outfit suggestions are my main use. I am having a blast trying them on and documenting them.

These AI outfit suggestions are very, very interesting and helpful to me.
--If I find myself reluctant to put on the item(s) that's a clear sign that the items aren't really working in some way and it's time to reconsider their place in my wardrobe.
--Because the outfits aren't constrained by my own preconceived notions, I get some really fun and cool combinations.
For example I absolutely LOVE this outfit which is crazy because I never would have put these all together but somehow they work. Ditto the Stephanie pants, cashmere deep v neck, metallic clutch and flip flops look (although I've since removed the v neck and Stephanies, the formula is helpful). I added the stretch knit longline bra under the top for a bit more coverage, but something about this is so kitchy and fun, even if the app did have this under "work" for occasion (ha ha!!)
--Seeing pictures of myself in certain items I was hanging onto, hoping to find a way to make them work Exhibit A because they were expensive, HTF, or cool, is helping me move on from them and pass them along to someone who they'll be a better fit for.
--Because the outfit suggestions are generated from my own outfits, I can start to see patterns. What type of combinations do I tend to go for, and are they working. I can see that I tend to wear a dress + shoes, or other very simple combinations, with few accessories, something I'd like to change.
Whering: Free: Whering was a PITA to get my wardrobe loaded, but it's 90% in there now, so the fun can begin. Whering works in a very similar manner to OpenWardrobe: one uses screenshots, native to app pictures or camera roll pics to populate your wardrobe--but there's no Chrome extension. However you can bulk upload pics so that's nice. There's a pretty granular level of detail you can include, like color, purchase price, size, brand, etc. Whering will give you stats, primarily what are your favorite colors, most and least worn pieces, price per wear, how much is used vs. new. It was a real eye opener that Whering had "black and gray" as my favorite colors (meaning most frequent). I actually went through my wardrobe and culled my black items from 20 total down to 6 as a result.
But the real gold is the "dress me" function You can combine 2, 3, or 4 items (although you can't select which type of items are in the rows, Whering does that for you) and then make an outfit, to which you can then add more (accessories, another layer like a coat, etc). The bottom row is footwear, and accessories are not a row option. You can swipe through each row and then use the pin toggle to tag those items in place once you pick your item, onto a canvas like those seen here
The app also has a Lookbook function; this one I actually use for planning. I've planned out a couple 10 x 10's, a set of "does this shoe I'm considering work for my wardrobe?", and a handful of formal outfits, as I'm trying not to go nuts and buy all new occasion outfits every few months, heh.
It was interesting to see my stats, I show 31 dresses, for example (although that includes special occasion dresses and things like "interview dresses"). Hard numbers like that help me refrain from buying MOAR DRESSES when the slightest excuse comes up. I can also see that I'm 50/50 "preloved" (meaning thrifted or new to me via eBay, ThredUp, etc) and new. Over time I can see my most worn items, and my least worn, so that should help me be more objective about the reality of if items have a place in my closet.
I've been using Pinterest for over 5 years to keep track of my outfits and build inspiration boards, but these apps take it to the next level.
Downsides: bopping between apps trying to keep track and make sure everything is included or culled is a little tiresome. Both Whering and OpenWardrobe have really limited color palettes, Whering in particular lacks any nuanced greens, blues, or browns--and the colors aren't labeled in the palette when you select them, and aren't visually accurate, with khaki, ecru, and beige being pretty far off.
Both apps have limited brands loaded, so for OpenWardrobe, which requires a brand be added to your item, you have to type in the same brand they don't know over and over (ahem LILITH) for each item which is a pain. OpenWardrobe isn't super-clear on how to get LolaAI to make suggestions (it appears to be M/W/F around 10 AM that new suggestions are added but that's not documented anywhere. There is an instructional video in the app however, which gives some minimal instructions for the AI) and I'd personally like about 4x the amount the app is currently making. Whering confuses 'favorite' with 'frequent' and includes things like shoe color in your wardrobe, which is irritating because most of us have more black shoes than any other color, but most of us don't consider black shoes to "count" in what color we wear most often.
However, despite those drawbacks, I'm really loving this wardrobe app exploration and will continue to use them.

A long delicate hand extended across the custom made Roche Bobois Executive desk with masterfully blended darkened steel and glass, curving around into the shape of a crescent moon. It's owner had a chuckle over that every time they saw it, knowing it was on a bit too on the nose but not minding the small joke. Their hand picked up an old rotary phone that was linked to a sister device just 15 feet to their west, where their secretary sat, "Nightshade" The Executive identified them-self to the phone
A moment of pause, a female voice responded from the other end, "All preparations complete, Nightshade. Operation Zephyr, Operation Crimson Jewel, Operation Mirage, Operation Ember Storm, and Operation Shadow Orchid" The females voice said to the phone
"Proceed with all, then proceed with Operation Equinox Ascendant" The executive responded before hanging up the phone.
A moment of silence followed the secretary as she replaced her own phone on the receiver and took a breath in. Her mind wondered about Nightshade as it had for the last four years since she received this unique job offer. She had never seen her boss, nor does she know what Nightshade sounded like as the voice was scrambled every time they spoke. Even worse, she didn't even know Nightshade sat just 15 feet to her east all these years. She picked up her phone, dialing the officers of Nox to relay the orders to proceed from Nightshade in the order she had asked them previously. Zephyr, Crimson Jewel, Mirage, Ember Storm, and Shadow Orchid...

Major Jacob Hurthwing of the United States Airforce adjusted himself in the seat of his, as yet, unnamed and top secret state of the art Multi-role Fighter Jet while his stomach rumbled. It was 3pm and he was hungry. He had been told that this fighter put the F-35 Lighting II to shame with its superior Stealth Capabilities, Ground Attack Armaments, and Maneuverability and because of this it was exceptional in its handling and disbursement of G Force other than on the pilot, and it had taken him a few weeks to get used to the control scheme. Everything was controlled from his helmet or the unique control stick which was more like an advanced glove connected right to the plane that seamlessly linked his movements. However, as much as he was in awe of what he called a Seventh Generation Fighter... He was equally in awe over the view he had from the cockpit. To his east was the mighty Himalayan Mountain Range and below him was lush green valleys, deep gorges, and pristine rivers meandering through the terrain. Cascading waterfalls punctuated the verdant hillsides, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to the scene. Valleys dotted the terraced fields, vibrant with the hues of cultivated crops, reflecting the agricultural livelihood of the Bhutanese people. He was on practice runs, evading and testing the capabilities of the fighters stealth ability, which had been wildly successful. He had yet to be spotted by any of the Asian countries he had flown over, from teasing the China border to over India and north. It was a gorgeous day with clear skies and he had just checked in with the USS Harry S. Truman in the Persian Gulf who had advised him to return to deck, but, he figured he could slip in a few more minutes of this view as he adjusted his course... Suddenly, the cockpit of the Fighter flashed red as his HUD displayed at least fifteen different warnings, most of which he could ignore but two he could not... Unsafe weather conditions... and Connection Lost. He hardly had a moment to think about how to fix the situation before his seat ejected, without his desire to do so, but his cockpit remained closed. His neck broke instantly as it hit the strong composite metal, and with his lifeless corpse, the plane began banking to its new destination...

4,800 miles away six individuals sat within the back of a Route-master, known more locally to Londoners as a Boris Bus or New London Bus. It was the classic red double Decker redesigned for the modern day, and the men loaded Kalashnikov's as they knelt below the high sides of the second and first deck levels. The bus took a turn on Dacre St just a few blocks away from Buckingham Palace and saw their target. An unmarked, visually unremarkable vehicle driving on the opposite end of the road and coming their way, just as they had expected. While the car was unremarkable to the world, the driver of the Routemaster knew how to identify it with its exceptionally strong tires and had a low profile from the weight of the armor plating that was hidden within. It was an armored car being used to ferry the Princess of England on her way to an unplanned and unscheduled stop just halfway across London but the bus driver knew the car would never make it, as he had been given the proceed on Crimson Jewel... As the vehicles drew closer to one another, he yanked his wheel to the side, and the two vehicles collided to a loud crushing stop, for the bus was modified as well. Behind the driver, the six men in masks opened the windows of the bus and aimed down at the Princesses' vehicle. Its armor had been compromised by the impact and the windshield began to splinter as dozens of bullets hit it. One of the men pushed a Panzerfaust 3 from the busses window, aiming the rocket launcher at the car. He wasn't supposed to fire it yet, ideally, they captured the princess... but should the police arrive to soon... Oh well...

Operation Mirage occurred in the early morning in Michigan, USA. A lone Nox operative had already slipped inside one of the worlds foremost digital security services and major supplier to the US government and had laughed to himself at how simple it had been to do so. Monotony and Peace had ruined the guards who stood watch and had been waiting for the shift change that occurred at 5am just moments ago, and he had no need to obscure the cameras for when he reached the server room... He could erase and loop the videos... as he gained unrestricted access to their systems...

"That's it?" The nox operative asked his officer, known as Phantom. "That's it" Phantom responded ever so simply. They had spent the past week preparing for this operation and the young operative couldn't believe that kicking it off was so lackluster and so simple. Of course, preparing hadn't been simple. They had been all over Mallacoota and the Coopracambra National Park of Australia setting up caches of fuel that they were sure could not be found nor traced back to them. It had to seem like an accident, after all. It was 7pm as Phantom took one last long drag of his cigarette, looked out over the national park... and flicked it into the fuel trail at his feet before the two left.

It was similarly 5am for Operation Shadow Orchid, and the officer in charge had seemed almost disappointed that it would be nothing more than a drop off... and he had been going through ways of making it more interesting in his head. An arrow with a message? No, too archaic... A Grenade launcher through the window? No, too modern... In the end, he decided to go with a timeless classic with a unique twist... It was two hours later that the US Senator awoke next to his wife. He rolled over to hug her, as he always did, but when he did he felt something slide on his chest. His eyes opened to see a manila envelope with a note on it suggesting he keep quiet and wait for more contact. Attached to the note, however, was a Polaroid of him and his wife asleep in bed just two hours prior. Inside the envelope were pictures of him and his many... Mistresses... Something he would do anything to keep quiet

“You thought I was a male!? Do you not see my curves, my face, my EVERYTHING!?” I roared at the venlil shit brained human.
“Hey hey hey I didn’t expect to be this lu- I mean- I didn’t expect this.” He quickly called out as he lifted up his hands. “I just had thought you were a very effeminite male.”
“Men are NOT this feminine.” I hissed out as I once more motioned to my small, slender, FEMALE body!
“Well, some human men are, and you are one of the first Arxur I have ever seen.” he pointed out as he grabbed his data pad and started typing prophet knows what.
“Krakotl shit. There is no way ANY man can look thi-”
By the prophet that was a girl in a cute pink dress.
“Okay, that is a girl.” I hissed at Jack.
“No its not.” He calmly replied then pointed at the username. It was masculine, but no gnashing way that thing was male.
“You are lying. Do not lie to me.”
“I am not!” he then pointed at a part of the picture. I leaned in close as my tail lashed side to side.
By the prophet it WAS a male. What? Why? HOW?!
I straightened up as I looked at Jack, then the picture, then back at Jack. “But… Why?” I asked motioning to the picture. “It serves no purpose! Why bother showing yourself in such a way? He clearly put in all the work to look female and he is not even identifying as female?
“Because he wants to look pretty, show off, and its what he finds fun.” Jack explained. “This one isn’t even gay.” He then put his pad down before sitting in the long-chair of comfy. “Humans love to express things with what they wear all the time. Its how we show our identity, what we like, and how we want to be seen. He wants to be seen as pretty and make people feel good. Some girls dress like men because they want pockets. Some men dress like girls to get guys. Some, like me, dress simply because we do not care that much about it.”
My head spun at all the various ways that humans dressed. “So… its… like camouflage?” I slowly asked before sitting down. Why would you want to wear things like that? It would just make you stand out! Isn’t that bad?
“Yes, but no.” He rubbed the back of his head and let out a long groan. “Why did the first thing have to be clothing? I have no fashion sense!” He grumbled. That F-word had no translation at all for me so I just kept staring as he talked more. “So, humans use their clothing to express themselves for the most part. They use what they wear to show things. How they feel, how they want to look, to make a statement, to draw attention, and more. Some wear camo even in public to show their identity even.”
Wait, the humans can stand out? “Wouldn’t that get you labeled as defective? I mean, it seems like such a waste of time and more. Plus, it serves no real point to hunting or anything.”
“We don’t see it as a waste, and some people deliberately dress to show themselves as, as you would put it, defective. Different and against the norm is in fact an identity some people WANT to show.” He explained before motioning to his body. “The fact I wear pretty much ONLY jeans and nerdy t-shirts in public is my way of saying I am defective and do not care for fashion. Ironically enough its a fairly popular statement.”
My head swam. Wanting to be SEEN and KNOWN as defective!? “You… you don’t kill defects?” I slowly asked staring right into those eyes. Please. Tell me I am safe. Please let me be defective. Please let me. Please.
He stared back at me with wide eyes. “Oh… oh shit.” he looked around and took a deep breath. “Well fuck this is above my pay grade. No. No we do not. In fact we don’t even correct most things that some consider “defective” anymore. In fact, its usually seen as a good thing these days.”My brain just seemed to… stop.
Defective? Good? Safe? No correct? No betterment? No kill?
Safe?
“Hey, Syle, you- oh no you are not.”
Tears.
Can’t stop.
Warm?
What? The human held me close. His skin was soft, his body was not hard. Warm. Very warm. Safe. I leaned into him and closed my eyes as I curled up next to him.
“I… hated eating sentients. I… didn’t want to. No choice. If they knew they would have killed me.” I gasped out. “If you didn’t take me in they would have killed me for losing to you.” I finally admitted. It felt… good. Very good. I never got to talk to someone like this.”
His hand rubbed my head softly. It felt wonderful. His hand was the softest I had ever felt in my life. I wanted more of these head rubs.
“I… I want to be defective. Is that ok? Is that really ok?” I asked over and over again. This was too good to be true! This human won me fair and square, but he won a proud Arxur hunter. Not a defective freak like me.
“Yes. Yes it is. I promise no eating anything sentient.” His voice was softer, gentler than normal. Soft like his belly, his hand, this long-chair. I like soft. Soft is good. Need more soft. “You also don’t have to act tough all the time. You don’t have to be angry.”
Less anger? But anger keep me alive. Anger keep me fed. Anger help me hunt?
More tears. More warm.
“Its okay Syle. Let it out. You are safe here. I promise.” He cooed down to me.
Safe.
Finally.
I cried for prop- no. No more prophet, no more betterment. They want me dead now, so they can go- gnash I don’t even know. Rot?
I just cried into this man’s shirt. Every time I felt like they were going to stop, I realized that I was still safe, that nobody hit me for it, nobody yelled at me, nobody was watching me to see if I was “broken” and more came out. I don’t know how long I cried, and I don’t care. I was safe.
Finally I managed to stop, but I was not going to leave him. Being held felt… good. Plus, even though it was safe I didn’t want this human, no, Jack to see me all broken like this. I took slow, deep breaths like I used to on the ship, trying to calm down. His hand rubbing my head helped too.
“Can you help me pick out new clothes Jack? I don’t… I really don’t want to wear Arxur armor anymore.” My words were quiet. At first I thought he couldn’t hear them, but I could feel his body move a bit. “Sure. I will help you order some. Until then you can wear some of mine. I buy some baggy clothes that should fit.” He calmly said as he rubbed my head. “No rush though. Just relax. In fact, I will give you a nice comfy pair of pajamas like mine for tonight to sleep in.”
I nodded and we just sat there awhile. The room was dark now as night had come, but the fire gave us light and warmth. I wanted to sleep on this long chair in the arms of this human. I was safe. I was fed. I was warm. No yelling. No pain.
We stayed that way for awhile before I sat up and took a deep breath. He rubbed my back a bit before he got up and went into a different room leaving me alone. I looked around again. There were some pretty pictures on the wall, a few nice things on tables, but it felt empty. Normally I would be packed in with at least two others since our ships were tiny, but here?
He finally returned and put some soft clothes on my lap. “You can change in the bathroom.” He said pointing to a different room. I nodded and soon was wrapped in the warmest, softest clothing I have ever felt in my life! It had long sleeves that wrapped my arms and long pants legs that even covered my claws! Every move I made caused the soft fabric to brush against me like wearing a nice blanket!
I walked out and Jack gave me a warm smile. My tail curled up as I stretched a bit, shuddering as my joints popped. “Alright. Lets get some sleep.” he then patted my shoulder and led me to a hallway. “I think you need it.” I did. I so gnashing did.
He took me to a HUGE bedroom with a bed big enough for two arxur! My tail curled in the air, was he-
“This is your private room.” He motioned across it with an open hand. “All yours. You can even lock the door if you want. I will be just across the hall. Any questions?” I shook my head. My own private room. Like I was a chief hunter. I slowly walked to the bed and put a hand on it enjoying how soft EVERYTHING was! I could hear him close the door as I slid onto the bed and under the covers.
It was so quiet. I had always slept in a crowded bunk room, even as a hatchling. I rolled over and over looking around for someone, listening for something, but the world was quiet. I stared at the ceiling forever, unable to sleep. My mind kept drifting to how warm and soft Jack was. How I needed somebody in the room with me. Finally I let out a hiss knowing what I had to do.
I slid out of bed and calmly went across the hall. There was jack, laid on his side in an even bigger bed than mine. Alone as well. “Hrmf? Wh- Oh. Syle? What’s up?” He asked clearly having been drifting off asleep.
“I… am not used to sleeping alone.” I confessed. My words soft as my tail swayed side to side.
“Oh. uh….” He looked at me in surprise before giving a small nod. “Alright. Its… not normal for humans to sleep together like this, but uh. Sure.”
With that I slid into his bed and pressed my back against his warm, soft belly. A happy chirp left my traitorous lips, but he was making odd, strange noises before he let out a long breath and put an arm around me.
Warm.
Safe.
Sleep.

I have this friend of a friend who we'll call Jamie. Jamie's whole thing is that she compulsively lies. That's just how she is. But you never know until she brings it up at a random time later.
This isn't nearly the first time she's done it, and it's not even the first time she did it with a big, sad, life-changing event. Most of the time her lies are completely harmless I will say, but there was one time she came in and said her mom had just died. It was very sad. She was crying, she couldn't handle it. She had a meltdown in class about it. We were coming to see her every day for a week. Then the week after, she says her mom is up her ass about something. Like what would possess somebody to do that?
So a good amount of months ago, Jamie announces that she had a miscarriage. We didn't even know she was pregnant, but it was heart-wrenching. Everybody was comforting her as best as we could, as we had never been through something remotely similar, but we tried. A friend later said that this one seemed different. She had no emotion this time. She was sad when she lied about her mom, excited when she lied about losing her virginity this one time. And somebody else pointed out that due to the timeline that Jamie presented us with, people would have most likely seen showing (I know that's not always how it works, but she was very far in to the pregnancy based on what she said). But, we didn't want to assume so we took it at face value, kept trying to help, but stayed suspicious out of caution.
Then, yesterday, she brings up that she had a miscarriage. Now, in recent days, Jamie and I have had a few big fights over the topic of her lying. I'm very over trusting her only to be constantly let down. So, out of my angered flippancy, when she brought it up this time, my kneejerk was "but like...actually this time?" This sent her into a crying and raging fit. She couldn't believe that I would just assume it was a lie. What I couldn't believe was that time she had evidence. She showed me a picture. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen.
Now, everybody is mad at me. And like I get it because the situation was actually real this time, but I feel like I'm justified in my reaction due to Jamie's previous and long pattern of compulsively lying. So, AITA for reacting the way that I did?
