I was at a family friend's (basically my cousins at this point tbh) house the other night, and my sister, the only girl there, was bored and playing on her phone.
Me and my friend S are eating ice cream bars when he says all thoughtfully
"Hey, d'ya think we could fit in that shelving unit?"
And I go "Uh...maybe?"
S definitely could, being about 4'10ish and in middle school, but I wasn't too sure if my 5'6 teenage self would be able to jam myself comfortably into a shelf. But I sure as hell wasn't gonna go down without at least trying, right?
So we finish our ice cream and have a contest to see who can chew through the sticks the fastest, and proceed to climb into the shelves.
I sat in the shelf with my knees pressed to my chest, contemplating how I planned on getting out of there, when I hear my grandma come downstairs.
"Where is everyone?" She says.

tbh i graduated at csulb for my bachelors when they did the ceremony on campus and at angel stadium for my masters - they both were boring as fuck.
on campus graduation: long, boring, humid as hell because it was raining. my college had to get split into two ceremonies because we have a lot of departments. even then it was like almost 4 hours. i sat there most of the time watching people’s names i didn’t know or care about being read. everyone was just talking to each other while names were read. it was my turn and i got like 5 seconds and that was it. i walked off stage. most students left after their name was called anyways so it didn’t matter. speeches were boring and weird. it reminded me of a high school graduation. there were so many people and we were cramped in the soccer field. i only got 5 tickets so not as many people i wouldn’t have liked to come could watch me graduate.
angel stadium graduation: long, boring, not hot because it was later at night. you walk in, wave on the jumbotron, and sit for like 40 minutes while everyone else walks in. then speeches that were long and boring. it was only 2 hours. but it’s a lot of sitting and waiting. just like any other commencement. but this time we didn’t have to sit through a bunch of names of people we don’t know or care about being read. there were still tons of people and it was crowded. i got 12 tickets so i invited way more people which was nice. the grad stages were actually kind of cool because you got to “customize” your slide and stand in front of it instead of it just being a quick 5 second thing. the photographer let my family and friends take pictures with me on stage.
a traditional graduation is cool but just remember your high school graduation and how much sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting you do for your “moment.” a moment that is like 5 seconds. the angel stadium graduation isn’t that bad. not the best but still isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. you’re going to be bored at this ceremony as much as you are a traditional one.

I live in Detroit city all my life. I haven't moved from here. I live in the city not the outskirts. Yes, I'm a spooky fan of haunts. And yes I pay attention to anything that points to haunts. Growing up in from 70's to present, I have alot of experience on freeways. From severe traffic jams (all types) and constructions. But there is regular activity, that I know that happens. When the activities on any freeway in the city get active, such minor accidents to major accidents, from simple flat tires or engine problem. If in doubt anyone can look up I-75 north and south, at Springwells. You can read accidents that happen in that area and near Dearborn street. About 15-20 years ago, on cloudy cold snowing winter day, a Canadian family was visiting, and white out happen, another car and them collide, they all died. Since the accidents happens on the south bound. After that, on the exact opposite side, north bound, a son of a mayor was murder by a shooter, then some years later father on drugs killed himself and son, father was high. Another time some young girl did the dukes of hazard jump also on drugs all died. This happen between Clark st and Springwells on south bound I-75. On the exact opposite side of where the accident happen, another bad accident happen there also Now when driving south bound of I-75 before coming to Springwells, do not drive on the last lane or the first lane, drive on the middle lane. Something happen there, I don't know what. But it affects the cars, flat tires to engine problems. It's rare but this curse can go from springwells to eureka rd, on both side of the freeway.

For my entire life up until I was 12, my big brother was the world to me. My dad was not there for us, so my brother was my role model and best friend.
When I was 12, my brother became extremely ill, and he stopped spending time with me. Neither my parents or my brother told me what was wrong, so due to my brother's illness and my parents suddenly not paying any attention to me without any obvious reason, I blamed myself and subconsciously became avoidant in relationships.
My brother thankfully recovered a few years later, but by this time, our relationship was already severed. He had also missed some very crucial years of school and social development, so he began to act strangely.
The first time he tried to reconnect with me after his recovery was at 3 am when I was sound asleep, he shined his phone flashlight straight at my face which caused me to wake up and shout at him to go away. This was when I began to dislike him rather than have a neutral perspective.
Ever since then, he has been trying to reconnect with me, but (probably due to the delay in social development and thinking I'm still his 'little' brother) he is extremely weird about it e.g. giving me hugs for no reason and high fives for answering basic questions. He has also been struggling with self care, so I don't like it when he gets too close.
I know we are family, I know he is trying with the best intentions, and I know we'd both be happier if we became friends again, but there's something subconsciously repelling me away from him and I don't know how to stop it.
Meanwhile, while all this has been happening, my mother has been abused by my father in every way except physical/sexual. She is an extremely unhappy woman, but she tries so hard to give my brother and I the best lives possible. She also worries a lot and would rather tell you to do "the right thing" rather than have a regular conversation, so I have grown distant from her as well from not wanting to open up due to anxiety.
What can I say or do to make things better with my brother and mother even though I'm uncomfortable around both of them? Due to our relationships deteriorating over so many years, I no longer actually care, but deep down, I know the three of us would be happier if we had each other for emotional support.
TLDR: big bro got ill for many years, no one told me why so we grew apart, he didnt develop socially so hes really weird and I cant get myself to reconnect with him. Also my mother is extremely unhappy because of how we turned out + horrible relationship with father. All this has caused me to adopt an avoidant personality so its really hard to talk to people.
PS - by avoidant I mean I don't go out of my way to seek relationships even though I feel cripplingly lonely, but I have no problem talking to someone if they happen to be there e.g. sitting next to someone in class

I was recently accepted to CPP for a b. architecture major and i’m excited! however, i was also accepted to UCSD for Urban planning and development and im pretty conflicted since i only have a month to decide the next 4 or 5 years.
I know CPP is accredited therefore it is 100% better than a b.a. for getting an architect license but i’m wondering how/if they help you find job opportunities and how the “life outlook” is. If i’m going to go into such a hard and grueling major i want to make sure i’d really get good opportunities and be happy with life afterwards. I’m very excited to study architecture, but i want to make sure studying it won’t leave me regretting giving up a nice school like UCSD. I’m also conflicted because I haven’t visited CPP at all (i will visit at least once or twice within the next month) and I’m just not very familiar with the school itself, and I don’t want to be unhappy with the program/school since I won’t be commuting.

So this story has a few characters. There's me (Ash), my best friend (Cherry), another friend (Cassandra), the "jerk" (Lily), and Lily's mum. So I'm in high school, and I have a small group of friends that I hang out with every day. This girl, Lily, is one of Cherry’s old “friends”. She usually stays at home, and doesn’t come to class often (she’s in most of my classes, and it kinda sucks). Lily and Cherry met in Prep, during primary school. Lily sort of clung onto Cherry, and she could never really shrug her off, because she would get in trouble. Now at one point, Cherry finally decided that she would stop hanging out with Lily, as she was rude, annoying, and a toxic person. After politely telling her that she didn’t want to hang out anymore, Lily went crying to her mother. After smoothing over the fact that she had done many things wrong (which would put Cherry in the right to not want to hang out with her) Lily said she wanted something done about it. So Lily’s mum attempted to manipulate the entire town (we live in a small, rural city where most people know each other) into hating or at least disrespecting Cherry and her mother. Quote from Cherry, “she’s done it once, and she’ll do it again.” Cherry and Lily have had many, many arguments over the years, and every time she has said “I’m not gonna come back” and after a while(from a week to a few months) she always walks up to where we always sit, parks her butt right next to whatever spot next to Cherry there is and starts talking about herself and “how cool she is, and how lucky we all are that she came back to us, cuz we’re nothing without her”. I do not believe this.) But their most recent arguments kept Lily away for about 9 months. She had gone to hang out with a girl called Cassandra (one of our other friends). From what I know, Cassandra is nice but has a lot of energy, which can be hard to handle. After these 9 months, Lily walked right up to Cherry, said in the sassiest and bossiest voice I had ever heard, “I don’t want to hang out with Cassandra anymore” and then sat down. Now, I recently learned from both Cherry AND Lily’s girlfriend that Lily has been talking smack about me behind my back, calling me toxic and saying that I’ve been love-bombing Cherry, just because I hang out with her the most out of everyone in my friend group. I think that she’s the toxic one, and she’s probably jealous. Lily and Cherry were “dating” for like a week, and after the second day, Cherry completely forgot about it. I’m pretty annoyed by the talking about me behind my back. I want to confront Lily, but Cherry tells me not to. She says that Lily will get her mother to do the same thing she did when Cherry stopped hanging out with her. I can’t have this continue, as it will end up bad for both me and Cherry. It’ll impact both our mental health states, and Cherry could get hurt or hurt herself if Lily continues to do what she’s doing. So tell me, am I the jerk for wanting to stop this?

I took a gap year in 2021 where i worked for my self refurbishing cell phones
At the end of 2021 I took a summer school course to get university entrance
In 2022 I studied engineering, was not my thing and failed the course
At the end of 2022 i was diagnosed with adhd, made alot of sense with my schooling history etc( not that i feel this post has a lot to do with tho)
This year I am currently studying a bachelor of Commerce
I am enjoying the work more than engineering, however Im still not sure if its for me
I feel like I am using university as a “crutch” in somesense, Not to sure what I want to do in life but also dont feel ready to “become an adult”
and “get a proper job”
I feel like im in this perpetual midset of trying to figure out what i want or what i should be doing
Part of me thinks a University degree would be very helpful and good to have, the other half is thinking about where i want to be, if its even worth my time or if i should just a job and use those 4 years to benefit me in building a career.
I dont know if my heart is properly invested in university and i dont want to be wasting time trying to figure out what i want to do otherwise that will get expensive very quickly however i also feel like i will be letting those around me down if i stop going a persue something different
I know i am young still and it can take people lots of time to figure out what they want to do in life but i dont like the idea of feeling stuck

Had a crush on this guy throughout highschool. Tall, maputi, and chinito. Kind of a reserved guy and was an obvious computer nerd (he's a software engineer now). I was so infatuated with him — stole glances & daydreamed whenever we were in the same space, vandalized my books with his name, sent him anonymous gifts during valentines (LOL). Nung 3rd year, our sections were ranked according to our grades and he belonged to a higher section and ako naman, 2nd to the last.
Kasagsagan yung year na yun ng Wattpad movies like Diary ng Panget and She's Dating The Gangster and ako naman, typical teenage girl na obsessed HAHAHA I was so determined to make him acknowledge my existence kasi ang daming may crush sa kanya and malapit na kami grumaduate. I studied my ass off that year and joined school contests & ran for the student body. Basically put myself in the spotlight. Anyways masyado ko ata ginalingan kasi napunta ako sa 1st section the following year and sadly di ko siya classmate. Napapangiti ako pag naalala ko siya kasi growing up was hard but he inspired me talaga to get out of my shell and be brave. I overcame my shyness and social awkwardness para lang makilala niya lolz. He was handsome, smart, and really talented kaya I felt like he was out of my league.
Everything I achieved in high school, I credit to him. Para kaming si Shon and Nam (ahem, Crazy Little Thing Called Love) except hindi naging kami ever. I eventually confessed when I asked him to dance during a school party and he said he knew all along (OMG) pero by that time I didn't really like him much na. After that interaction, he somehow always made sure to be my first dance during school events that had a slow-dance segment (we had a ton of formal balls in senior year) to honor all those years I liked him. He also was one of my 18 roses sa debut! Nakakatuwa lang what an innocent, naive pre-teen crush did for my self-esteem and growth. I send him love & light whenever I remember him. ❤️
