2023.06.03 09:36 RegentofArakko A Love Letter to the King of Slings (Or, How the Heimplanet Transit Sling Pocket 2L Stopped a Mugging)
![]() | submitted by RegentofArakko to onebag [link] [comments] Heimplanet Transit Sling Pocket 2L I was inundated with 1s and 2s of requests clamoring for me to expound a bit more on this sling bag in response to my updated packing list. This isn't a review so much as a look at why it's a dope-ass bag for my specific use cases, as well as how I've decided to pack it out after 3 years of use. I sprung for a sling bag/fanny pack/bum bag in order to solve a few problems:
So, on that note, here are my sling bag essentials: Loadout
Front pocket Doesn't look that big, right? It looks like there would only enough room for a pair of glasses as designed. Front pocket w/ glasses Upon further inspection, however... Front pocket w/ glasses AND earbuds case ...it turns out you can fit a deceiving amount of things here, including giant-ass earbuds cases like the Beats Fit Pro. The reason this was a game-changer for me is because I used to keep my Jabra Elite 75t earbuds in one of the elastic pockets in the main compartment. However, in the back of a cab one day in Oaxaca, I happened to not zip up my sling all the way (which you'll find is a recurring theme in this post) and I'm sure it flung out at some point. (Luckily, as noted with some other items I lost or damaged on my travels in my packing list update, Amex Platimum's protection benefits helped me replace the Jabras with the Beats Fit Pro.) The fit with glasses is snug, but not too tight, and there is no threat of it falling out, even if you don't zip up the front pocket. Now, I just jam my earbuds here every time and I haven't had an incident since. (Of course, if you're not occasionally careless like me, this is a non-issue.) What the front looks with the glasses + earbuds case The bulge isn't nearly as pronounced when unassisted by my fingers Moving on, here's what the main compartment looks like when it's loaded out: The goodies Smushed together view for better view of the elastic side pockets Please note that, most of the time, my passport stays put in the Zero Grid holder in the quick access pocket of my Patagonia Cragsmith 32L when not in use. I only travel with my passport in my sling while I'm in transit to somewhere where passport verification is required. The zippered pocket in the main compartment does not fit the Zero Grid Passport Holder, but I am not in the least bothered by this because it's one less thing I have to fuss about with when I'm quickly whipping out my passport at the airport. Here's where my Google Pixel 7 Pro goes: https://preview.redd.it/7tri2zkmuq3b1.jpg?width=4048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37db1577c33edad704262ac2a1fa5e4bf0fbfd91 https://preview.redd.it/vqbxqastuq3b1.jpg?width=4048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1479444ba6017ed7af394cbfd375fe00a7d03254 Quick aside: As mentioned in the previous post, I had a Pixel 6 Pro that I broke in Uruguay. I was leaving my host's flat in Punta del Este waiting for the elevator. I had my back turned, and when it opened, I put my phone in my sling and turned around quickly to enter the elevator. The phone flung completely out of my bag and landed screen first on the tile floor. I had a Spigen case on it with screen protector, but I had a bad habit of dropping the phone almost daily anyway, so the resultant 95% black screen was really only a matter of time. Note to the lazy: Please don't be like me, zip up your bag. As a result of this carelessness, I picked up a lanyard for my new Pixel 7 Pro and Spigen case, and I happened to stumble upon another layer of security to guard against this in the future: Connecting the lanyard to a caribiner I affixed to the front loop of the bag. Phone lanyard + caribiner attached to front loop This has actually been quite a cool feature for me the last couple of months:
Loaded out - top view Loaded out - side view Finally, let's look at the nylon straps: Nylon strap - rear view HPT = high pressure torsion, aka tough af As you can see, there's a small gap in the hardware that connects the strap to the bag for ease of replacement and/or cleaning of the bag or strap. Now that I've covered the lanyard + caribiner combo and strap, let's get into my click-baity title: How I was mugged in the Dominican Republic. Before the inevitable victim-blaming comments pour in, I will admit that I put myself in a non-ideal situation. Of course, I know I didn't deserve it (no one does), but in hindsight there were a few mitigating steps I could have taken to minimize risk. The story: I'm sitting at a bus stop alone on a busy street with one else around with my sling bag, Cragsmith, and earbuds in, trying to get back to my friend's flat. The sun is setting so it wasn't quite nightfall, but dark enough. I notice two guys walk by and cross the street. They look right at me, and then one of them at my phone. I promptly put my phone away, which is attached to the caribiner on the sling. Multiple vehicles, including three police trucks, drive by in a 5-min span. I checked my surroundings before I took out my phone again to double check bus ETA. When I look up again, the same two guys suddenly reappear and are briskly walking across the straight right toward me. They aren't visibly armed with any weapons, but what is going to unfold is not left to question. I start shouting and cursing them out in Spanish to draw as much attention as possible as one guy lunges at me and grabs my phone and hoodie, while the other guy goes for my sling bag. I hold onto everything as they drag me off the bus stop bench. I hit the back of my head on the bench on the way down and I was on my back. The guy on my phone almost rips my hoodie clean off but he can't dislodge my phone from my hand. He lets go of the phone and just focuses on my hoodie instead for some reason. The other guy is violently and furiously yanking on my sling bag, but it just will not break. I reach for my Hydroflask bottle out of my Cragsmith and whip it against the knees of one guy twice, and I start Spartan-kicking the other guy in the balls while still on my back. After what seems like an eternity, both guys seem to give up and let go. I take this chance to get up and I started swinging my water bottle + paracord sling wildly. They finally run away when a taxi driver stops to help me out. So, yeah. That happened. I was rattled for several days afterward, and it really impacted my ability to enjoy Puerto Rico initially. Lots of lessons learned, and I hope I never find myself in that situation ever again. To bring the focus back to the sling bag, I reviewed its condition thoroughly when I finally got back to my friend's place. There was no indication that it had been in a struggle, and no sign of fraying, tearing, or damage to either the nylon strap, the loops that they connect to, or the aluminum hardware. As I said, the one guy was hellbent on ripping the bag off of me with several deliberate, measured pulls, as if he were taking deep breaths each time. He was pulling so hard, I ended up with strap burns and accompanying pain around my neck and under my left arm, neither of which I noticed until an hour after the assault. This bag is amazing, 10/10, would recommend, everyone go get one. And more importantly, I am super lucky it didn't end up worse. Thank god they weren't armed. To lighten the mood, here's my real favorite feature of the bag: Personalizing it with an elephant charm I bought from a homeless guy in the US before I took off on my trip. (I broke the elephant trunk moshing near the Obelisk in Buenos Aires while celebrating Argentina's World Cup quarterfinals win. Obviously worth it š„³) At this point it's obvious that I love this sling bag with all of my heart. On a normal day--especially with my new security best practices--I'm in and out of this bag, zipping and unzipping, likely a legit 100 times. It is built to withstand a staggering amount of abuse while looking super fly, and its utility is endless. This is, without a doubt, the most crucial purchase I've made to my onegear kit. |

2023.06.03 06:11 Shermanguy82 Off-road Wrecker Progress
![]() | Hey, it's me again! Finally made some big strides with my truck and the wrecker bed. To catch others up, it started as a stock RTR Element Enduro Sendero, over a few years I modified it into a truggy with a cage rear end. After watching a lot of off-road recovery YouTube videos I came to realize I love the look of an off-road wrecker and decided to take action to make it happen. submitted by Shermanguy82 to crawling [link] [comments] The cab is a file from Thingiverse of a Dodge 1908s truck. I 3D printed it at home, filled, sanded, painted and weathered it. The wrecker bed is hand-built by me from expanded PVC with no premade plans. Just some screenshots from the internet, some artistic improvisation, and a ton of glue. I finally built the boom arm and the pivot point. I used a brass pin to hold it all in place with a few body pin clips. Since I last updated, I created a sling for the back, which is commonly used to hook up to the vehicles to keep them from bumping into the back of the wrecker. I used square styrene tubing and some tidbits of expanded PVC with a tow hook brackets I had in an old parts bin. It's functional in the sense that it pivots forward and back and left and right. I have a small chain hooked up to it, but then will hook to the boom arm to simulate it ready for towing position. I added a few more panels to the back of the wrecker for aesthetic looks. I also purchased a set of inner spring shocks, took out the spring, and I'm using it as a mock hydraulic ram arm for the boom. I created the mounts for the hydraulic arm by hand using PVC pieces. My last and final thing for this evening was to replace the bumper making it much larger. After putting it on the truck I realized it just looked too tiny. I know that wreckers usually have a larger bumper to help protect against accidents. This one looks much more accurate now. I still need to create magnetic mounting points for both the front and back. I need to drill a hole between the front and back and bolt the two pieces together. I need to take off all the attachments on the wrecker bed and get it primed and painted, then reattach everything and add on all the extra bits like the diamond plate for the back portion and all the odds and ends tools. After some paint detailing and reflective stickers, I should finally be done. |

2023.06.03 05:29 KoanicSoul Ukraine has allegedly sabotaged Zaporizhia like Chernobyl, to stop Russia and draw NATO in. Biden can't afford another Kabul.
Kawaii-Gopnik Russia really needs that powerplant without any leak, to provide industry of surrounding regions with energy, but very few people understand contexts of the current situation: Soviets built complicated and very well ballanced energy system, including not only NPP, but also cascade of hydro power plants. Donetsk, Dnepr, Zaporozhe and Kharkov regions are just one big power hungry plant. NPP itself is reliant on hydropower and quality of water in Dnepr river. In case of really bad "accident" Russia will forget about development of the newly accuired regions, lack of energy produced by NPP is significant, nearly 30-40%. Accident will affect south of Ukraine with russian majority. It will also be also disaster for ecology of the WHOLE Black Sea. Rose of winds will spread nuclear dust to the West - Poland, Romania, Czechia and further. Nuclear zone will stop russian army from further territorial expansion. This will be border formed by Dnepr and nuclear zones. The basic facts are documented by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Even while shut down, ZNPP needs external power grid or diesel to prevent its reactors from overheating.
So, bright new plan. "The Greatest Ukrainian Offensive". The Ukraine would build up a big reserve of fresh troops, then suddenly hurl large chunks of them at particular points on the front. They would, the Americans planned, cut through a point in the front lines, penetrate to Russian rear areas, wreak havoc on those areas, and force Russian troops in danger of being encircled to hastily retreat from territory that had been slowly gained at enormous cost in grinding attritive warfare. I do not know how big the Ukrainian strategic reserve was, but if it was two hundred fifty thousand, they have now committed most of them to grinding attritive warfare, and cupboard is looking as bare of men as it is of artillery and rockets. The USA expected to break Russia economically; China's economic support prevented that. Despite PMC Wagner's heartfelt complaints, Russia is unlikely to run out of convicts anytime soon. Russia is rotating divisions through Ukraine, seasoning reservists for a looming WW3. Russia's historical appetite for losses is much higher than its current losses. This is essentially a civil war, and the Russia bear considers being carved up an existential threat. By underestimating Russia's resolve, NATO is repeating the error of Napoleon and Hitler.
Anonymous Sat 27 May 2023 04:59:49 No.428438077 Report 428437208 Yeah, the killing has been excessive since they pretty much destroyed 95% of Azov fags and assorted true believers in the first 200k dead, now they overshot it by 100%. About 12% of the non-Russian speaking population's prime military aged men in Ukraine are dead or crippled. 12-20% of the same demographic has fled the country. It's over, desu. They are seeing much more of the polish and romanian mercs now, since they literally lack the manpower.Western mass media wrongly assumes that Russia is losing because it does not take the entirety of Ukraine in a blitz, as the USA did to Iraq. However, Russia does not want West Ukraine; the people there do not like Russians. Russia has captured the territory it wants, and is now using the rest of Ukraine as a kettle or cauldron, in which to conveniently destroy whatever NATO wishes to send. This is a good way for Russia to gradually learn how to fight NATO armies in a low-risk environment.
Nehming Names 9h Russia's prudent caution in directly engaging the West is bringing dividends in perhaps unexpected ways. Russia is gaining strategic knowledge of the actual capabilities and weaknesses of our weapon systems and military tactics, with our supply of munitions draining to militarily unsustainable levels, as it engages allied forces in Ukraine. Russia is aware of the continuing progress of the Great Awakening in the West, that is, the knowledge that Western governments, military, and institutions are run by an elite hostile to their heritage populations, and therefore expects to see declining support of Western governments by their citizens. Russia can also see the precipitous decrease in every societal metric in the West: social cohesiveness, general morality, public health, financial stability, military readiness, etc. With these three degradative processes in play, the most strategic thing Russia and China can do is to bide their time, as time itself will act to sap the strength of the West to militarily engage their foes.
tinglevibestoo I listened to a former CIA agent talk about Ukraine the other day. He said that Ukraine is running out of time. It's not that they don't have the weapons. We've sent them a ton of weapons. It's that they don't have enough troops and they're running low on troops. That's how Russia will win. Ukraine can't sustain the manpower. It totally makes sense to use a nuclear false flag as a reason to bring in the extra manpower. Everyone would deem it justified too because it's a threat to the neighboring nations and it'd be an environmental (climate change) catastrophe.
AtlasThis is extremely dangerous, external power is required for reliable cooling of the reactors and pools containing spent nuclear waste. Western media spent months last year pretending Kiev wasnāt shelling ZNPP.

If NATO ops and Mercs are sabotaging trucks coming in, what do you think they are gonna carry diesel in to the plant? Is Russia gonna pack in rotopack Jerry cans on their back. Fill a truck up with 5 gallon cans and hope they make it past the snipers and sabotage? Do you have any clue how much fuel those big generators suck down in a day? Those generators to run the plants during shut down or failures are huge 500kw or bigger they are the size of whole 18 wheeler trailers. Those things will drink 50 gallons an hour. You gonna haul in 2.5 gallon rotopacks one at a time to keep it going?Nuclear power plants have tough shielding. Allegedly the diesel generators are hidden underground. However, the diesel fuel supply is still vulnerable.
OSINTdefender The Main Directorate of Intelligence for Ukraine has announced that the Russian Military is preparing for Large-Scale Provocation in the coming hours at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Southern Ukraine that will reportedly Simulate an āAccidentā at the Plant causing the Emergency Leak of Radioactive Substances which will be Blamed on Ukrainian Forces. Then Russia announced it had caught saboteurs (presumably Ukrainian) in ZNPP's city:
Saboteurs who were preparing terrorist attacks on the NPP were detained in Energodar. They had with them maps and schematics of the nuclear power plant with marks for strikes that could lead to a nuclear catastrophe. The suspects are involved in collecting and transmitting information about the facilities of the Zaporozhye NPP on the instructions of the Ukrainian authorities. To communicate with the curators, they used foreign satellite systems, as well as foreign weapons for strikes and equipment for conducting reconnaissance and sabotage activities.

This is really the sweet spot, going over really runs up the price and 2 inches puts it on par with the taco/rangecolorado that run next to you 2: firestone destination at2 265/60-18 . No rub on full lock forward/reverse. Reason for getting was white lettering and the reviews were very positive on highway manners and wet performance. Wet performance is big for me since I am driving in the wet a good majority of the time. 2A: Tires plus lift is roughly 2 1/2 inches up. Wife: why did you make it so high? its hard to get into! me: muahahah 3: under body protection of mostly no low design front skid, front diff and catalytic protection (mostly to slow down/prevent someone going after my cat...its a thing in my area) 3a: front skid plate NEEDS replacement m6 bolts on the front that are automotive grade class 10.9. The stock bolts are meant to hold a tin shield and they will loosen and cause a bunch of creaking/groaning. If you attempt to tighten..they just break. 4: fog lights are diode dynamics SLF white, the 780 lumens is a great match and does not over power the main headlights. They are actually very useful in our dark and rainy nights here in Louisiana! 5: Brush guard, I think this was CarID...but not even sure you can buy anymore. It was roughly $350 at the time. Downside is the top tabs running under the hood...I had to take a stainless pad to them and really scour them and put on real black paint that could stand up to the rain. The stock coating rusted very quickly. 6: AEM drop in air filter. Clean/wash it every 3 months...works great. 7: CarID for the dash cover, I keep my vehicles for a long time and most end up with cracked dashes so wanted to prevent that on this ridgeline. Plus I could geek out and put my gamer handle embroided on it...kids/wife roll eyes... me dont care. 8: Steering wheel cover off amazon for $20, keeps the steering wheel in great shape and the aftermarket is really decent. 9: Full size spare on the back. This takes some amazon...you need a m8 140 to 160mm in length. I got the 160mm in length from England and its just a tad too long. I used rubber spacers on the stock insert. The stock tire holder requires a new hole, I screwed in my bolt...put some paint on the top and put the tire on with the stock holder. It showed me where the bolt hit the stock holder and voila...drilled my hole there. Its pretty much right on the edge..like 2mm off the edge if you need to guess. I put the bolt in and put a rubber spacer (again 160mm is a tad long, 150mm would be perfect) and just used a ratchet to screw it in. Is the view out of the back window great? No, but it beats the tire just lying in the back. I would love the tire to be side mounted on the bed behind the driver...but I don't know how to fabri-coble such a beast. 10: threw the engine cover away...I like to hear the engine. 11: Yes....I put a honda Trailsport badge on it. Its the version of the 2020 ridgeline that is really trail rated, but never made. haha...true unicorn 12: Put ceramic tint on the front windows. Its a bit less then the stock rear so nobody questions it and its a good look imho. I had it done professionally and it looks stock and has held up for 3 years with zero problems...and it really does block out the UV. They were also the same shop that installed the traxda lift, it was unique for them since they do a LOT of custom lifts...but never a ridgeline. What I like: 1:Payload is great, I've really pushed it a few times with 1700lbs...but it handled it like a champ every time. 2:Towing is fine, small trailer for my daughters band, a few boats, etc. I do need to install a brake controller on the off chance it hits 4k lbs or more. 3:Ride is great...way better than most every truck I've driven 4:Handling is vastly better in the corners, I can really whip this thing into a tight turn and not end up plowing or bouncing like mad....this is NOT something you want to do on a taco/rangecolorado. 5:More height on the sidewalls makes a real difference in handling pot holes...ride is not as jarring. We don't have great roads here in Louisiana. 6:I use the in bed speakers waaay more than I ever thought I would. 7:Love the transmission 8:making people regret not getting a ridgeline after they borrow my truck for the weekend 9: its pretty damn unique in town, I mean ridgeline is already pretty much "wheres waldo?" in a sea of ford/chevy/dodge/toyota...but this puts it into the unicorn status 10: oh yeah..cabin space is awesome! 11: trunk really keeps the cabin clean...just toss it in the trunk! What you need to accept: 1: acceleration takes a hit with more weight and bigger tires 2: gas mileage goes down. stock height/tires it was easy to get 25-29mpg, now its around 21. I drive like a monkey in town...17 3: Head unit is slooow. It doesn't crash/freeze...but it is slow. Basically android auto is your friend. 4: getting it aligned takes more than your usual shop. They have to work with lifted trucks...your normal shop has no clue on how to get this aligned. I took it to 2 shops, multiple times..fails. I then looked around for an alignment shop that knew wtf to do with modified trucks and it finally was done right. 5: eco mode in town is death...it takes so much off the acceleration that to turn into traffic is: ok..barely going..push more pedal...hmm still not moving...more pedal...damn they are right there! mash it to the floor! Sum up: I am totally that crescent wrench guy....I don't do anything that well, but can toss myself into most situations and make it work. This is my perfect truck in that it can do pretty much anything I ask it and my daughters are learning to drive on this as it has most of the modern safety features. |

The T3-01 says not to use the stock spur gears and to use a 26t or 27t gear. Will the 26t or 27t spur gear mesh with the drive gears on the lunch box or do i need to change those too? Can i use the stock spur gears even though the sport tuned motor says not to? See pics below of instructions, thanks for any help. |

![]() | Bought a utility trailer tonight because I have some jobs I need to complete tomorrow that canāt be pushed. Itās a cheaper utility trailer from tractor supply. I have a 7 inch drop hitch, but the front of the trailer still sits higher than the rear. Iām new to hauling my zero turn around, and didnāt know if this is unsafe. Didnāt know what the weight of the mower would do to the trailehitch/truck etc if the trailer itself is uneven. Any feedback would be appreciated. If I have to I can run out in the morning and try to find something different. Thanks all! submitted by Western-Sell-8959 to Tools [link] [comments] |
