Jennika was a vagabond in New York City who went to prison as an accessory to murder after her boyfriend killed a man in a botched robbery. In prison, she befriended a fellow prisoner who was a member of the secretive Foot Clan. After her friend was killed during their prison escape, Jennika sought out the Foot Clan and joined them. She rose to the elite rank of Foot Assassin and served under Oroku Saki, aka the Shredder, until the clan was taken over by Hamato Yoshi, aka Master Splinter. Believing Splinter to be too soft of a leader, Jennika betrayed him and attempted a coup, only to find herself swiftly defeated. Splinter, recognizing her passion and loyalty for the Foot, demoted Jennika but placed her under the tutelage of his eldest son, Leonardo. Jennika became an ally of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles during their time with the Foot, and even began a romance with their friend Casey Jones. However, a confrontation with Oroku Karai left Jennika on the brink of death. In order to save her life, Leonardo gave her a blood transfusion, which mutated her into a mutant turtle. Now a turtle herself, she joins the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as their sister, fighting the multitude of enemies that threaten the peace of their family and New York.

This is Part 4 of my terrible experience in Kingsley, the main town in the peninsula King’s Cove, where I went to visit my boyfriend Nick’s family a few months ago. You can read the earlier parts here:

Hindsight is 20/20, right? Looking back on it, it’s so easy to blame Nick for not realising the extent of the depravity and horror that had unfolded so rapidly after he left his parental home and moved to the city, in mid-2021, after the death of his father. He had blocked out so much of what had happened, with the crow-rites and festival- my therapist talks about “purposeful forgetting” describing how we block out unpleasant and distressing memories and this definitely applied to him. And of course, I am well aware that I come across as foolish and confused.
Oh poor Nick. No-one deserves to go like that. When the police found the remains of the body- ah well, I’ll get to that.
I loved him so much. He was my first “real” adult relationship- alongside my first “real” adult job, which I couldn’t keep after I returned, I was that traumatized. I am only slowly beginning to regain my life.
I had been so excited to go to Kingsley- so happy to meet his mom Violet and his cousin Craig. He didn’t talk too much about them, but I never thought anything was wrong with that charming oceanside town. And our videochats with Violet had been perfectly fine. If anyone is to blame, it’s probably Violet, who must have realised something of what Craig and his followers were up to, and yet chose not to share and let Nick and I visit. She would have known how Aunt Margaret, Craig’s mom, and her husband died, how could she not?
Yes, blame the mom. That’s the easy way out. Poor Violet. Well, she paid the price as much as anyone on that terrible peninsula.
Anyway, back to the story.
With Nick dragged off, I started running back to the house, tears streaming down my face, to let Violet know what had happened. But in my confusion and terror, I took the wrong turn, and within minutes, I ended up by craggy rocks by the ocean. My phone obviously had no reception.
In an odd way, the crashing waves, the loneliness, the high soaring white seagulls gave me comfort. After all the nonsense with the black crows, the seagulls minding their own business were absolutely delightful, and I found myself lying back on a rock, letting myself be soothed by the sound of their calls, the waves, and their looping flights. I know I should get up, find help, find Violet, but I simply didn’t want to.
Hours passed.
I realise, looking back, that my irrational decision to stay in the rocks was what actually saved me. By simply following my survival instinct and remaining there, hidden from view in the dips of the rocks, I lived.
But eventually, propelled by hunger and my body aching from prolonged contact with the chilly damp rocks, I had to get up and leave the shelter of the ocean.
I walked back towards the town. As disoriented as I was, I figured out my way and soon spotted Nick’s house. It was already early afternoon.
I was pleased to see our car waiting patiently in the driveway. The front door swung open, and for a moment, I foolishly expected to see Violet standing there smiling, holding a tray of crose jam and fresh-baked muffins.
Crose jam? Oh god, was I becoming one of them?
I shook my head as I bounded up the steps. “Violet?” I called through the open door. There was no answer. I went inside.
Of course, you know a house is empty as soon as you set foot in it. I called out a couple more times, moving from room to room. In the kitchen I noticed the signs of the struggle- the overturned bowl of dough, the trail of flour, broken glassware.
They must have taken her here.
I picked up the landline, no reception. I desperately punched 911 into my cell again, no use. I went upstairs, looking for the car keys. And then I picked up a journal lying on the nightstand and without thinking, flipped it open. I recognized Nick’s handwriting and despite the sense of urgency, couldn’t help reading.
“April 5th, 2020 - Aunt Margaret says we should do something better with the Crows Festival this year, distract the kids. It feels like everyone is going crazy, and I think that’s a cool idea. Craig said he would help to make it really fun.
April 10th, 2020. Everybody is fighting, god I hate this. Dad says holding a big festival would be breaking the covid rules, even though it’s outdoors. I’m almost 19 now and I’m still stuck at home and have to listen to Dad. He yelled at Aunt Margaret and Craig during our family zoom happy hour and told them they were irresponsible with the kids. I can’t wait to leave this town. I wish Mom would leave too.”
I continued reading with growing horror. Nick’s dad- he died in May that year, not of COVID as I had assumed, but his body was found in a field, tied to a pole with his arms outstretched, covered in tar and black crow feathers. The cause of death was never determined.
And then three months later, Aunt Margaret had died, this time of COVID, so Nick wrote in his journal pages.
From the road I heard a car passing and stayed low making sure I couldn’t be seen in the windows by anyone driving by. There wasn’t nothing else here for me, and I opened the door to the backyard.
And then, I saw it.
Violet’s corpse hanging from a thick rope tied to the eaves above the door. Blood from her cut throat had soaked the rope and pooled beneath her, both eyes had been messily cut out leaving red streaks down her cheeks. The smell hit hard, my heart pounded and stomach knotted as I fought the urge to throw up. Steeling myself, I moved around her dangling body making sure not to touch her as I moved out into the backyard and off into the woods.
I still thought I could find Nick and leave together.

4-LOM rolled up to the holotable, the aging shipbuilder looking over the various fleet and division commanders.
4-LOM was an old Mk1 astro robot, his main body was a sphere, with four mechanical arms extending from his body, two large and bulky, and the other two smaller, more nimble and accurate, more dexterous, with a cylindrical lower body leading down to his treads, which were angular, tank like in shape, designed for heavy lifting. His head was flat, with a duo of square optics, a set of welding shields flipped up, ready to flip down when and where needed. His backpack was open, with tools sticking out, ready to be grabbed and used.
Looking around, he noted that the Saurians had their Admiral, a middle age Rox, their massive, tyrannasauric form still managing to tower over most of the others, even in holo, while Serano stood next to him. Nearby, Hota sat, nursing a coffee, rubbing his head, while one of the chief science officers hologram glanced at him nervously.
Another door entered, and a Mk12 frame entered, standing at the table. At first glance, the frame looked pristine, but 4-LOM wasn't fooled. He wasn't a shipwright for nothing, and he could see the pitting under the paint where plasma weaponry had uselessly splashed off, taking with it little layers of metal with it. Despite how new the frame looked, it was clear it had seen some action, recently as well, judging by the fresh coat of paint.
More holograms of fleet officials, and the bridges, or representations of their ships, flickered in above their shoulders. Serano looked like he had an old sailing ship floated there idly, a representation of the Enterprise. Some had wasps, while one captain had a cartoonish Barbus fish, with an old style white sailors cap and a belt of dynamite.
And then a small black hole flickered into view in front of his faceplate, making him roll back with a start. Getting a good look at the now pulsing black hole, he seemed to frown, one of his welding shields rising higher to simulate a eyebrow raise….. "Horizon? Is that you, little lass?" He said, with a thick, Scottish accent as his other shield rose up to join the other in shock.
The holographic black hole bobbed up and down in the air, two arms extending out from its corona and spun, as if to represent it, no, her, spinning in happiness. For a moment, 4-LOM was silent, before he began laughing, reaching up, even as his servo passed through the holo. "Ach, what I wouldn't give ta be in the Link with ye, lassie! I'm glad ye survived." He said, as the little ever hungry representation of the ship spun around him, before it shot off, floating near the Mk12, who looked at it.
The 12s head tilted more, as it listening to what the ship was saying, while 4-LOM felt a bit of possessiveness flair. Horizon was one of HIS creations, his and his wife's. Their ships were like children for them. Rolling over, he mentally began preparing a bit of what his wife would call the shovel talk, something they used to do with Captains that took on their vessels……
"Did you need something, Grandfather?" The machine said, domed head snapping to his, taking the wind out of his sails, and stare blankly at the taller, thinner machine.
Behind him, he heard Serano chuckle behind him, even as the Rox raised an eyeridge, while the Saline sat his mug down and placed his head in his hands.
"Grandfather- oh. I see…." He said, gaze turning flat as he gave a glare at Horizon. "I see the little gremlin is still able to make me short a fuse or two. Void knows Maria's hair turned white before she had to move bodies due to someone's antics." The little black hole pulsed sharply, as if squawking. "Would have appreciated a warning she made herself a captain…. Lassie, ye best be teaching him self preservation instincts." Catching the snort from the Rox and the sigh from Serano.
Slowly, his head turned around to face the two, one shield twitching, and finally saw Hota looking up with a flat look. "Too late on that one. I'll pass you the after action report later, AFTER the meeting." Serano said, hiding a smile. "If you want a first hand account, ask Hota. From what I understand, he had a front row seat for the Chaos the two caused."
She wasn't a little ship anymore, she wasnt- ah kriff it all. She was still his little lass. He'll talk with her later…preferably with Maria there…..after he grabbed his wrench and had a….. talk….. with whoever was their crew.

All the admirals and fleet commanders were soon in place, Asimov standing to the side, near the Admiral Serano, Horizons representation floating next to his head as his own panned about, looking at the assembled species. Several robotic ones, not Astro Robot series, called Glinch, looked at him curiously, while he picked out several different….Saurians, a few Roxes, several Trikes.
Several were pale, white skinned humans, bald, be they male or female. Clones, like himself, but with organic bodies, accompanied by nat-born humans, and several more advanced Astro Robot series units, these ones looking everything from near human, to large and bulky, armed with cannons, inbuilt missile launchers on their upper arms, and massive treads, or slimmer, almost skeletal ones with modules that could be swapped out at a moments notice.
"I appreciate ye all for coming on such short notice" 4-LOMs voice said, cutting over the gentle hubbub of the side conversations. "I had hoped that we wouldn't be facing them again, but here we are." The robot said as one of his smaller limbs tapes a command into the console, pulling up images of Everwatch stations current…condition. "Those of yeh from Federation space are more familar of the old stories, battle videos and the like. The Demons, as the Human Federation calls them, have been returned. It's only thanks to the work of Representative Hota that we have this information….. and had stumbled across an old Ace that had woken back up in time for this chaos." 4-LOM said, nodding to the Saline, getting the attention of his compatriots, who he shook his head to.
"Our opponents are equipped with biotech vessels, and are known for appropriating technology to forcibly integrate it with their own. Which means keep an eye out for a worse hodgepodge of weapons than a pirate vessel after its crew hits a pound of Spice and then gets drunk at a star port." 4-LOM said dryly, as various, old, images of the vessels and a few of the newer ones. "That being said, expect the sheer firepower jammed onto each of these ships to be on the higherside. However, they need long recharge periods, likely due to whatever power source used overloading, or the capacitor banks running dry and needing to recharge. Don't be fooled, they do have some form of biological armament, acid spitters, spike launchers, the works." He said, as images flicked up organic turrets, tentacles, and what looked like maws.
"As of right now, several of our larger vessels are being inspected and repaired, resupplied, and upgraded as needed. Several older vessels are being pulled out of mothball for the same reason. All civilian vessels are being drafted for emergency roles, receiving refit with hardware that will allow them to fight in a pinch, though their primary objective will be escorting transport ships and acting as emergency evacuation ships. We won't be expecting them to fight, but we need every ship we can get."
An image flickered into view of what amounted to the humans old museum of warships and deep space vessels, revealing it to be a hive of activity. Many other races had laughed at humanity for keeping their old vessels, rather than scrapping them, but now, now there was a reason why humanity had.
"Patrol fleets are to be at least one Saline Sensor ship, two to three Buckler class Trike Shield Bearers, one Rox Artillery ship, one Vohle capable human vessel, Two human PT ships, and three Raptor Swift claws." 4-LOM said, "these things aren't to be taken lightly. Sensors pick them up, call it in and engage. Stall for time if needed for reinforcements to arrive. Intercept fleets are to consist of five Trike Aegis class Shield Bearers, six Swift claws, one Rox supercarrier, three Rox artillery ships, two Saline Auxiliary ships, one Saline Medical cruiser, one Human Vohle Super-carrier, eight human PT ships, two Human Iowa class destroyers." The elderly bot belted out, making several Captains and admirals wince. Those weren't lightweight ships. The 'patrol' fleet could have been considered a planetary invasion force.
Before anyone could make any arguments or questions as to why the fleets were set to the Human classic of 'Maximum Overkill', and before any more ridiculous fleet deployments could be called out, a slightly panicking human sprinted into the room. "Sir! Confirmed hostile assault on Tisan-4" the human said, breathing heavily. "The Demons made planet fall, looks like a small invasion force that had left before the incursion field went up."
4-LOM stared….and then sighed. "Well, Caliburn had been itching for a fight." He sighed and placed a servo over his optics.

That was what appeared on the Colony Managers terminal as alarms screamed across the Colony, alerts screaming on PADDs, sirens spinning as bunkers opened up.
An aging Wargen bared his teeth as he rapidly tapped at his terminal, as the younger human clone stood grimly at her manager's terminal.
"Civilians are filling out the bunkers, tunneling charges are set and ready to clear escape routes." The elderly, wolf like Wargen said, his muzzle splitting into four as he spoke, one part vertical, the other horizontally. "Colonial militia are manning hard points and connecting to systems now."
"Understood." The Colony manager said and let out a long breath, before opening the PA system. "All hands, brace for Activation procedure. I repeat, all hands, brace for activation procedure." She said, before securing herself in on one of the chairs, even as the commander buckled himself in across from her, even as terminals all around them flickered and the building shuddered and shook, new lights came online all over.
"And the other races call our alliance insane for building the bunkers" The Wargen muttered under his breath as the command room became a flurry of activity, sensor teams working together in an attempt to get data on their opponents. "Our people are safe. That's what matters, commander." The clone said softly, looking at her long time friend, even as the hidden defense system of the Colony woke up.

Outside, the demonic army approached, on a slow, steady March, disgruntled at the lack of organics they had found to use. They needed biomass to fuel their war machine, to create their bases, their armies, their ships. And while they didn't care much about the sheer number of ships they lost during planet fall thanks to the orbital defenses, they needed to deal with the local defense computers. There had to be a way to broadcast an all clear signal and allow their other ships past.
Before them sat a large, fortified structure, looked like a massive cathedral, really. The irony was not lost on them as ports on the castle-like structure opened up, and began spitting metallic shells at them, exploding after punching through their infantry, leaving craters behind, destroying more of their forces.
The ground shook as their massive siege beast began forming from the splattered biomass, like some strange, oozing horror, slowly forming into a quadropodic creature.
The beast was mostly just a giant mouth in legs, with a long, worm like body lined with eyes, teeth, spikes, and tendrils, flinging said teeth at the structure.
Warlord Gistle ground his teeth as he stared at the cathedral as it held its own, his forces decimated by the attempted rain of metal. Said rain changed to one of scalding plasma as the castle changed tactics to try and burn the bodies to prevent them from forming additional, stronger units.
"Battle lord." Hissed one of the smaller battle chiefs said, as they stepped up next to Gistle. "The Seekers have not located where the miserable Frails have hidden themselves. Our efforts would be best put to entering the fortress ahead." The chief said, pointing at the massive fortress as the siege beast brushed off the weapons fire.
"No need, we will be inside soon en-" Came the guttural voice of the Warlord, before it was interrupted by a computerized voice, echoing out.
"THREAT ASSESSED. ASSUMING COMBAT MODE."
There was a rumble, everyone grabbing onto the stablest thing around them as the ground tore apart, the siege beast stumbling back, as the building tore up its own foundations as steam hissed out, and part of the building lifted up, and then slammed into the ground, and then the other side, slowly pulling itself up….and up…and up……
The structure wasn't a structure. Not any more. Towering over them, looking like a massive hunchback stood the cathedral, it's towers opening, revealing to be cowling around massive artillery cannons. It's arms, once covered with flat pillars, opened up to reveal a set rotating barrels, slowly spinning up, and a bulky duo of MAC batteries on the other arm. Sticking off the side of its upper arms were smaller hardpoints, each turret armed with four barrels, small and accurate, sniping ground units with horrifying accuracy, the soft metal shells ripping away to reveal their incendiary cargo held within steel mesh, allowing the coilguns to spit them out rapidly.
The head section looked like a sphere with three optics in a triangular formation, around a cannon that locked onto the siegebeast and whined, arcing brightly, before it fired, a bright flash seen as the cannon went off, it's round leaving behind a trail of fire as it raced through the air, punching through the beast, making it howl, and began trying to heal the injury that pierced it, ripping open a hole below it.
It's bipedal legs were thick, armored, and just as equally armed, it's lower legs armed with rotary cannons that spun, the lower pair foring a heavy stream of plasma, one barrel firing and then cooling as it spun, the others keeping the pace up, while above them, physical artillery was spat out, helping pierce armor for the plasma to scorch and burn to uselessness. More cannons sat on the sides and back of its legs in, taking aim at the surrounding armies, making sure to add on their screeches of rage.
Hanging off the underside of the platform that held the Cathederal sat more turrets, each swiveling around and adding to the chaos, their mini MAC armament chattering as they fired, picked a new target and fired again. On the top of the platform were AA cannons, taking aim and firing into the air, altering the timing of their rounds so that they acted as impromptu artillery, while more cannons, on four turrets, covered the monstrosities back, preventing them from sneaking up behind it, as if the cannons on the back of its legs weren't enough to cover it.
"TARGET ACQUIRED."
Warlord Gistle hissed in shock. The Frails had been LIVING in a Siege beast of their own!? Hidden partially underground, deceiving them to make it seem as if it was nothing more than a fortification!?
"Have all expendable units merge with our Siege beast, NOW! if the frails continue to pick our forces off one by one, they will never be able to reinforce our beast after they fall!" Gistle roared, even as around him the battle chiefs barked out the orders……..

The massive machine stared down at the hostile forces as they turned into a thick, biological slurry, short of the Demons themselves, and oozed towards the horror before it.
The monster seemed to absorb the substance on contact, growing larger and larger with each passing moment, howling and hissing.
He could feel his crew cursing in their heads, humans and otherwise, lighting the slurry up with plasmafire, burning some of it, but not enough. Caliburn agreed with them, as his Plasma getting cannon spun up, the five barrels glowing brightly, the heatsinks by the ends of the barrel glowing as the machine poured plasmafire from the barrels, searing into the beasts body, burning it up as it grew, stunting its growth heavily, and forcing it to consume more biomass to make heavy, chitenous armor, layers burning away under the assault.
Caliburn could feel the dust coming off as his gears spun, and he stepped forward, swinging the glowing arm as it cooled down, making the horror screech as he spun his upper body to add to the force of the blow, digging the glowing heating into the beast's face and knocking it back, buying time for his crew to deal with the horrific slurry around them, which still tried to fuse with the horror, chasing after it with a single minded determination.
As his upper body slowed down and he was facing forward again, he saw the beast setting up, snarling. His other arm came up, and he could feel his capacitors burning as he began firing his MAC arm at it, the massive, vehicle sized slugs punching into the beast, knocking it back farther, punching holes in the chitin it tried to grow as armor, making it hiss and move rapidly, trying to put distance between itself and the machine.
Unfortunately, the beast had the advantage in land speed, as it had four legs, while Caliburn only had two and lumbered slowly forward, his aging systems relishing the taste of combat after so long. And now he had far better weapons then a simple crane arm, like he had last time he fought a creature like this.
Because the beast had put distance between itself and him, it managed to absorb the last of the biomass, and began bounding forward, it's maw open, teeth spinning like some sort of Cuisinart….
A target he couldn't miss. His head cannon barked again, not as powerful as last time, but this time, he wasn't trying to rip it apart from the inside. The shell detonated on contact with the teeth, shredding them, tearing into the soft flesh within, making the beast howl and close its maw, it's chitin armor weathering the plasma splashing off, hardened to withstand the smaller weapons fire his crew spat at the creature.
His arms pulled their shrouding back around them, as he drew back and swung, hard, again using his body spinning to his advantage, striking the beast, the heavy weight of the heatsink and the weapon itself burying the shroud covered arm inside, the end opening up. Unfortunately, thanks to the partial shrouding, he wouldn't be able to spin his cannon, but all he needed was one shot inside it, and let it fly, ripping his arm out as it howled, smoke billowing from its new hole it tried rapidly to heal.
The tendrils it had tried to dig into his arm burned away as he kicked it up from below and began unloading both arms, fully unshrouded, the heat coming off both of them making steam hiss up into the air, as the beast took a heavy slug and then a plasma bolt, one after the other, deep into its stomach, sending it onto its back.
Loud popping sounds were heard as its limbs reoriented, allowing its former belly to become its back, the holes sealing slowly as it circled the walking cathedral, even as Caliburn scanned it, his upper body following its every movement. His command crew were breaking down every schematic and scan he gave them, working hard to figure out a way to kill the horror.
In the mean time, Caliburn and his crews would do their damndest to stall the beast and continue on their current plan. Burn it down, slowly.
He could feel his crews tracking the retreating demon forces, listening to the mental chatter within him as the artillery crews happily worked together to figure out their path, searching for the enemy command position, even as sensor crews watched as the rapidly approaching flood of biomass and machinery charged for them, some of the artillery crews already letting loose N-4 shells, the 'super-napalm', as the crews nicknamed them, impacting and exploding, burning into the biomass, unquenchable, even as the biomass attempted and failed to smother the burning substance, only serving to make it worse, melting the weaponry it carried with it.
The only reason why the crews could get away with it was because the biomass wasn't near the Bunkers exits or near infrastructure. Or Burnable items.
Command soon had a viable target, a sort of brain mass it had, separated throughout its body in a vain attempt to make sure it could still operate when a few of them were destroyed.
Several had been burned away by the plasma bolt going off inside of it, but many more remained, and it was attempting to make more/replace the burned away ones. They needed to eliminate the command signal….
Jubilation and grim satisfaction bloomed in his sensor and artillery crews, as he felt the mad scramble for bunker busting shells, before they were let loose into the air. Even as he blocked a tail strike from the beast and managed to crush its head under one foot, letting his landing engines ignite for the first time in decades to burn the creature more, his crews targeted the command bunker, shelling it with deadly accuracy, smoke rising from the hill they were tucked away behind in the distance, making Caliburn burn with satisfaction and praise for his crew.

Gistle ran as fast as his hooves could move him, teeth barred as he snarled.
Around him, their command temple shook and shuddered, veins bursting, cables arcing wildly as the biomass contracted involuntarily or simply sagged, turning to biomass.
"Warlord, they are heavily shelling our position, we won't be able to retreat at this rate!" Hissed one of the Battle Chiefs at his side, hissing in fear, even as he snarled at the Pitiful, compared to him, creature. "We won't be taking everyone, only the essentials. The Everlasting King must be notified of this development. King be damned, the frails took the time to prepare for our arrival again." He growled as he came out to a hanger area, and ran into a small, fast ship, even as the others ran into larger, bulkier, slower ships.
Soon, the chitin that served as the door opened, and they shot out, erratically flying, trying to avoid the artillery shells, and now AA fire joining the fray.
He kept close to his compatriots, using them as a living shield as he twisted the small vessel around, smirking as he dodged the fire while they took it..
They were almost to space, soon, they could tear a Gate and get the fleet-
Reality tore open above him as a massive ring shaped vessel pushed itself into real space, disgorging hundreds of smaller vessels, bearing down on their positions, others engaging the floating fleet around them with aggressive assault runs, the sudden appearance in the system allowing them to have the element of surprise.
Weapons fire began filling the space around f them, tearing at their vessels faster then they could repair them as little, frail vessels zipped in and out of line of fire faster then they could shoot, track, or react, unloading slugs, plasma, torpedoes in a flurry of activity before diving away, allowing their munitions to wreak havoc amongst them.
Already, the larger vessels were disabled before Gistle managed to sacrifice one, smirking as it warped, it's biomass fueling the Gate, as he flew through, hoping he was in friendlier territories, unaware of a sensor torpedo flying in behind him.

Down below, on the surface, Caliburn flung back his opponent again, arms blazing as he shelled it.
It was bigger then it had been, managing to absorb the biomass from the surviving landing ships and the remains of the command center they shelled out. It's armor was thicker, and was flinging out dozens, hundreds of calcium spikes, spitting its unknown energy weapons, only to splash off his shields, for the energy weapons, and his ar.or foe the calcium spikes, even as his weapons screeched.
The beast had holes all over its chitenous armor, from his shells punching in, or his artillery crews shelling the beast, his plasma following close behind as he sought to burn the creature out from the inside, going so far as to ram his plasma cannon inside and unload it, the rotating barrels helping tear it up from the inside as the heat sinks burned it.
Ships began dropping down from above, doing strafing runs, dropping smaller caliber explosives, distracting the beast as he tore another hole in it by spinning his upper body, one shrouded cannon arm striking the beast and ripping in, just as a gunship fired a Cleaner into it, just before it healed.
A burning flash of light, a horrific scream from the beast as it howled, body jerking as the explosive did its job…. Before it swung down, still alive, though just barely, it's armor shattering rather then buckling on the next strike from Caliburn, a facsimile of a uppercut, before the barrels let loose again, even as the plasma cannon dumped bolt after bolt into its lower body, searching for, burning the neural clusters as he found them.
The beast wrenched itself away from his grasp, snarling as it looked at him, the beast snarling as it tried to heal from the most recent injuries.
Caliburn felt his crew snarling back, his cannons swiveling around as they gave their response in munitions as he lumbered forward, the ground shaking from his steps and the escape ships erupting out of the ground around them, his rotary cannon screaming as it fired, the MAC on the other arm barking as he hit it again and again as it charged forward.
The beast no longer cared for its injuries, all it cared was to take the metal monster before it down, spitting acid out of it as it tried, and failed, to blind the machine, even as said machine swung its smoldering plasma cannon up and brought down the burning barrels down on its head, smashing it into the ground, pinning it there as it's crew continued shelling it out ruthlessly.
Caliburn refused to let the beast survive, he refused to let the thing get to the civilians. His crew snarled their agreement as the beast tore the pinned head off its body, even as it burned away to nothing, and tried to charge again, blindly, only to smash against the MAC arm and receive a pair of heavy slugs to the neck stump for its troubles, sending it somersaulting back, trying to reform its head.
It was much, much smaller now, now matching Caliburns size, due to all the biomass loss, it's head reforming as it snarled.
Caliburn seemed to roll his pauldrons and twitched his MAC, as if saying 'come at me'. The beast howled and charged forward, razor sharp tentacles erupting from its sides, whipping about wildly, only for turret crews to blast the tentacles off at the base, and for his artillery crews to shell it down from above, flattening it into the ground again with explosive shells.
Again, the beast began pulling itself out of the ground, only for another strafing run from aircraft , this time dropping standard napalm canisters onto the beast, making it howl as it healed around the canisters, and began burning from within.
It thrashed and writhed, tail and body whipping about, even as Caliburn kept firing, not letting up, shells puncturing the chitin bubble it was trying to form around the napalm to contain it, keeping it burning into the beasts body.
At last, the beast tried to fling itself at Caliburn, thinking that it could at least burn out the mechanical monster with it, only for Caliburn to swing and strike it, flinging it away again, the beasts body unable to get back up, and laid there, slowly burning away at last……………

With the abandonment of the 5 year gap and the progression Jaime shows in the post I linked below, I think its quite feasible that Jaime has to use his left hand at some point (duel with Brienne, Lancel, Boros, etc.), my favorite potential foreshadowing of this, is this little throwaway line about his squire:

Areo Hotah has already dispatched a POV character (Arys Oakheart) and the Camera that Rides is now headed to track down Dark Star with Obara Sand.

Only Ser Gerold Dayne had escaped unscathed. Darkstar. If Myrcella's horse had not shied at the last instant, his longsword would have opened her from chest to waist instead just taking off her ear. Dayne was her most grievous sin, the one that Arianne most regretted. With one stroke of his sword, he had changed her botched plot into something foul and bloody. If the gods were good, by now Obara Sand had treed him in his mountain fastness and put an end to him.

One of the more divisive theories in the fanbase is that of Sandor Clegane fighting his brother Gregor. While E+L have stated that they don't believe Cleganebowl will happen (although they have also said they won't change their stance on stuff publicly if they get new information):

No, the Cleganebowl theory -- specifically, the version that has the gravedigger formerly known as the Hound fighting a trial by combat against the necromantic experiment formerly known as Ser Gregor Clegane -- is not really going anywhere (though the two may well meet under other circumstances).

I tend to agree as I think that Sandor Clegane's plotline stays in the Riverlands (LSH and the BwB are hot on his trail and know he was the last one to see Arya alive).
That said we get it on the show (take that fwiw, as they were in deep with the fan service at that point) as well as get several quotes that could seemingly foreshadow a fight between them.

Bloodraven & Bittersteel
Bloodraven and Bittersteel are known to have fought two duels::

• The First Blackfyre Rebellion (196AC)
• The Third Blackfyre Rebellion (219AC)

While the details of their first duel are pretty well known, the information about their second duel is very scarce (we will likely get more info in a future D&E or Fire & Blood II). It can also be argued that we could end up with a third "duel" (war by proxy) between the two.

Dark Sister & Blackfyre
While neither Blackfyre/Dark Sister have been mentioned in the main series, they have met in duels on a couple occasions. While it is confirmed that Bloodraven took Dark Sister to the Wall with him, we haven't seen it since. Blackfyre was last seen with Bittersteel.
I think its quite likely that Illyrio acquired Blackfyre at some point and that it was a treasure that House Blackfyre maintained as some semblance of legitimacy.

Not really sure who (it could be anyone from Euron and whatever he is summoning/dragon to another character on dragonback.

TLDR: Just like the title says, a list of duels/combat that I could happen (and that have some potential foreshadowing, etc. as well.

Visited my home park Kings island on Friday, Jun. 2nd. I’ve been many times throughout my life but haven’t been since Orion opened. I hadn’t stepped foot on a coaster since 2021 so needless to say I was more than excited to get back in the game.
Orion 3x: First ride of the day and it was a walk on. I must have had really low expectations because I really loved this ride. Probably the best first drop I’ve ever experienced, even beating out millennium force. The airtime moments that it did have was stronger than the floater you get on a standard b&m hyper.
Drop tower 1x: Had never done this one because I used to be deathly afraid of these things as a kid and now I understand why. Going up to the top was the first time I had been nervous on a ride in a really long time. The view was great though and the drop was extremely exhilarating. Makes me want to try bungee jumping or sky diving.
Mystic Timbers 1x: Doesn’t get much better than this. Crazy fast pace combined with extremely quick pops of airtime and laterals. Love the horror theme too, the shed looks like it came straight out of evil dead. Was just as smooth as when I rode it opening year back in 2017.
Diamondback 1x: I think I prefer Orion to this now but this ride never gets old. Just straight up airtime hill after airtime hill. It looses a little speed towards the 2nd half but it’s not that big of a deal.
The beast 1x: I was surprised how smooth the 1st drop was from the retracking. Not much to talk about in terms of forces but the value of this ride lies in its one of a kind setting and layout. I’ve always loved coming off the 2nd lift and building up speed as you approach the helix. The tunnel is still one of the best headchoppers ever.
Banshee 1x: Definitely consider this a good ride, but I guess this type of coaster isn’t my cup of tea. The positive gs always end up making me feel too dizzy and nauseous.
Had a great time overall, it felt good not having to worry about getting on every coaster and just riding what I wanted to since I had been on most of these rides many times. Orion really is such an underrated ride and is probably my favorite ride in the park now along with mystic Timbers and diamondback.

24M - Was getting bored of the day to day and the heat back home in dubai is just too much. So decided it was time for a mix up. So decided on going to start my travels for 1-3 months and just taking it day by day. First destination on the list… THAILAND.
Note: I will be super blunt and sometimes explicit, outlining each individual day to give you a strong feel of what this trip was truly like.
Saturday - June 4th
Flew in on a red eye, and checked into my hotel, “The one patio hotel”. Nice hotel, great AC and awesome location. Spent the first few hours just trying to get my bearing. Dubai and thailand are very different.
Although it almost seems like thai people fear westerners. Anyways, decided to pickup some weed for later. Went to some dispensary down the street. Was then recommended to get BOLT, made getting around much cheaper then apps like grab.
Then decided it was way too hot and I’m gonna need to get a bike, got a basic bike for 500baht (per day) after checking several places and them all being out of stock, I just settled on overpaying. Knew I was getting way ripped off.
After then realizing how bad the traffic on pattaya beach decided to go to the mall (attached to Hilton hotel) and park up and grab food.
I was starving, didn’t eat for like 8 hours since before my flight.
Went to the food court, got one of those cards where you load a balance. Ps. The food sucked. Got like a wonton soup and it tasted like water.
Then went on to shop and pickup some socks and a pair of shorts because my idea was to pack 4 day worth of clothing and figure it out as I go. (This mall looked like something straight out of North America)
After decided to go get a massage next door, which was only alright. Definitely had better.
Went back to the hotel to change, was too hot and then thought lets go do some touristy stuff - so the sanctuary of truth sounds interesting lets go.
Arrived at 5:30 via BOLT and found out I missed the last tour, so paid 50 baht to just see it from a distance and wow was it gorgeous. Definitely a place worth checking out.
Now realizing it was starting to get dark I headed back to the hotel grabbed my bike to head back to pattaya beach to chill with a beer and watch the sunset.
To be real the beach was only alright. Kinda subpar, and dirty. But still a great sunset the sky turned like a solid purple after for like an hour. Very cool, never seen that before.
Now time to eat again got some amazing fried chicken in front of the same mall as before at this place called yummy fried chicken. This is probably one of the highlights of my day. Then went on to the terminal 1 market (don’t recommend) and had some shitty noddle dish. Very unmemorable and thats saying much being I decided to smoke my joint from earlier and it was still bad 😂.
On the list next, walking street. Apparently what pattaya is famous for and guess what it was closed due to Buddha day according to locals.
So read on reddit I have to try something called a “soppey”. This was subpar, maybe the girl I chose but Saigon does it better 😅.
Then decided i was hungry got some street food across from my hotel - kababs, was awesome. Spicy as all hell though. Grabbed some mango sticky rice. My favourite!!!!
Then went for a foot massage and headed home and watched Netflix and ate the sticky rice.

Overview: Crazy busy day as a solo. Sucks it was buddha day but made the best of it and had a blast. Although Pattaya is not for me, too wild west for my taste and not much thai local food and way touristy.

I made a offhand comment yesterday to clear up a misconception about Guilliman and the Emperor, and found today to my surprise that I had managed to provoke the wrath of the reddit hivemind. Normally I would just shrug and move on, but the thing is that Guilliman's title of Imperial Regent—and how exactly he acquired it—is a significant plot point in the Dark Imperium trilogy. It's specifically the reason why he is so bitter towards the Emperor. An Emperor who can still speak clearly and say something like "you will assume this title and do these tasks" is not an Emperor that Guilliman would renounce.
Remember that Guilliman was revived on Macragge, far from Terra, and it was on Macragge that he learned about the past ten thousand years. And he did not take it well, to say the least.

Guilliman’s anger spilled over, and he span on his heel, staring up at the woven Emperor with accusing eyes. ‘Why do I still live,’ he snarled. ‘What more do you want from me? I gave everything I had to you, to them. Look what they’ve made of our dream. This bloated, rotting carcass of an empire is driven not by reason and hope but by fear, hate and ignorance. Better that we had all burned in the ires of Horus’ ambition than live to see this.’ Guilliman is shocked, angry, depressed, and who can blame him? But he can’t show it. None of it. He needs to stay calm, and strong, and in perfect control. For everyone else’s sake.
Anger surged through the Lord of Ultramar, and he clenched his fists with the effort of self-restraint. He imagined destroying this chamber, tearing it apart and hurling its wreckage around like a wild beast. He dared not, lest these strangers in his Chapter’s livery see through his facade. Though he wrestled with despair, the Primarch knew that he could not let his weakness show. Calgar, Tigurius, Agemman, all the others – they looked at him as though he were the Emperor himself. Guilliman was painfully aware of his symbolic quality, and of how desperate and dark the hour had become. He must show nothing but strength to his gene-sons, lest his despair taint their hearts, too.

But not all hope is lost for Guilliman, because he knows that on Terra, his father still lives. On Terra is the one person to whom he can turn to for help, for guidance, for just a second of relief from the crushing weight of responsibility. A person for whom he need not pretend that he has all the answers and lie that everything will be all right when it’s screamingly obvious that he doesn’t and it won’t be.

The Primarch announced his intention to set out upon a great journey. Once before, when the Dark Gods had threatened the Imperium of Mankind, the Primarch of the Ultramarines had reached Terra too late to do his duty. He would not make that mistake again. Guilliman intended to journey to Terra, to kneel at the foot of the Golden Throne and ask his father for guidance.

So off he goes on the Terran Crusade, battling his way through Magnus, and Kairos, and Huron, until he finally reaches Terra and drives Chaos back from the moon. Then he turns around to find the Battle of Lion’s Gate in full swing, another struggle in desperate need of a saviour, and dutifully plays his part yet again. Then he gets the grand tour of Terra’s decrepitude, and gets to see just how far the Throneworld has fallen.

We could not hide just how desperate things had become. He could see for himself the unnatural storms raging in the atmosphere, and witness the darkened profile of the defunct Astronomican fortress. He could see the walls stuffed with defenders and the smouldering, half-derelict stretches of the city beyond the walls. Perhaps worst of all, even when we got him inside the intact precincts, to the holiest and the most immaculate of our citadels, he looked at them as if they were some kind of insult.

And finally, exhausted, embittered, but enduring nonetheless, Guilliman gets to see his father.

He had gone in to see what his father had become. Guilliman had been thousands of years dead. He had spent subjective years lost in the warp to come to Terra, only to find an empire of ruin laid starkly before his disbelieving eyes. All building to this fateful moment.
‘Father,’ he said, and when he had said that word, it was the last time he had meant it. ‘Father, I have returned.’ Guilliman forced himself to look up into the pillar of light, the screaming of souls, the empty-eyed skull, the impassive god, the old man, yesterday’s saviour. ‘What must I do? Help me, father. Help me save them.’
He looked at the Emperor of Mankind, and could not see. Too much, too bright, too powerful. The unreality of the being before him stunned him to the core. A hundred different impressions, all false, all true, raced through his mind. He could not remember what his father had looked like, before, and Roboute Guilliman forgot nothing.
And then, that thing, that terrible, awful thing upon the Throne, saw him.
‘My son,’ it said.
‘Thirteen,’ it said.
‘Lord of Ultramar.’
‘Saviour.’
‘Hope.’
‘Failure.’
‘Disappointment.’
‘Liar.’
‘Thief.’
‘Betrayer.’
‘Guilliman.’
He heard all these at once. He did not hear them at all. The Emperor spoke and did not speak. The very idea of words seemed ridiculous, the concept of them a grievous harm against the equilibrium of time and being.
‘Roboute Guilliman.’ The raging tempest spoke his name, and it was as the violence a dying sun rains upon its worlds. ‘Guilliman. Guilliman. Guilliman.’
The name echoed down the wind of eternity, never ceasing, never reaching its intended point. The sensation of many minds reached out to Guilliman, violating his senses as they tried to commune, but then one mind seemed to come from the many, a raw, unbounded power, and gave wordless commands to go out and save what they built together. To destroy what they made. To save his brothers, to kill them. Contradictory impulses, all impossible to disobey, all the same, all different. Futures many and terrible raced through his mind, the results of all these things, should he do any, all or none of them.
‘Father!’ he cried.
Thoughts battered him. ‘A son.’
‘Not a son.’
‘A thing.’
‘A name.’
‘Not a name.’
‘A number. A tool. A product.’
A grand plan in ruins. An ambition unrealised. Information, too much information, coursed through Guilliman: stars and galaxies, entire universes, races older than time, things too terrifying to be real, eroding his being like a storm in full spate carves knife-edged gullies into badlands.
‘Please, father!’ he begged.
‘Father, not a father. Thing, thing, thing,’ the minds said.
‘Apotheosis.’
‘Victory.’
‘Defeat.’
‘Choose,’ it said.
‘Fate.’
‘Future.’
‘Past.’
‘Renewal. Despair. Decay.’
And then, there seemed to be focusing, as of a great will exerting itself, not for the final time, but nearly for the final time. A sense of strength failing. A sense of ending. Far away, he heard arcane machines whine and screech, close to collapse, and the clamour of screams of dying psykers that underpinned everything in that horrific room rising higher in pitch and intensity.
‘Guilliman.’ The voices overlaid, overlapped, became almost one, and Guilliman had a fleeting memory of a sad face that had seen too much, and a burden it could barely countenance. ‘Guilliman, hear me. ‘My last loyal son, my pride, my greatest triumph.’
How those words burned him, worse than the poisons of Mortarion, worse than the sting of failure. They were not a lie, not entirely. It was worse than that. They were conditional.
‘My last tool. My last hope.’ A final drawing in of power, a thought expelled like a dying breath. ‘Guilliman…’
It felt to Guilliman like his mind had exploded. There was a blinding flash, and the king and the corpse and the old man overlaid and overlapped, dead and alive, divine and mortal. All judged him.
Guilliman staggered from the throne room.

- Godblight
There is the fruit of his efforts, and what bitter fruit it is. That is what he journeyed across the galaxy, through fire and fury and hellspawned horror, to find. A psychic monstrosity bludgeoning him with raw power and the harsh truth of his reason for existing. An indifferent creator whom he had genuinely loved. And one that wouldn’t—couldn’t—guide him, because that hideous thing on the throne is so far past coherent human speech that concepts like titles and commands are a bad joke. He is alone. Alone in a galaxy of nightmares, without even the comfort of the lie of hope.
And worst of all, he still can’t show any of it. He can’t tell everyone that his hopes were shattered and his responsibility redoubled, and that he must carry it all on his shoulders with no help from his father. He can’t tell anyone anything.

Guilliman emerged grim-faced, his skin ashen. He gave orders that the lords and ladies of power be assembled, for he had news to give them, that he would assume the role of regent as his father commanded, and work towards the restoration of His Imperium. But he would not say what he had seen, nor what the Emperor had said. To those who dared asked him, he presented a stony silence.

- Avenging Son
The only thing he can do is keep pretending that all is well. Do not give in to doubt or fear, my sons. Keep calm and carry on, for I am the Imperial Regent and my father watches over us and everything is as it should be.

‘I can feel His love for humanity,’ said Mathieu. ‘I can feel it all around me!’ He hesitated in his rapture. ‘Tell me, oh lord regent, truthfully – does the Emperor love us, my lord? Do not say I am wrong!’
Mathieu’s question pushed Guilliman deeper into melancholy. More than anything, he yearned to speak with his foster father, Konor, one more time. He had been a noble soul, one who could be trusted. A true father.
‘My lord?’ said Mathieu
‘The Emperor loves us all,’ lied Roboute Guilliman

- Dark Imperium
As if that wasn’t enough of a burden, the only ones who know the truth taunt him about it.

‘I know with unshakeable certainty that I perform the duty I was created for. That I fight for the preservation of mankind.’
‘Then you do not fight for the Emperor?’ asked Mortarion, his voice an insinuating rattle.
‘I fight for what He believed in.’
‘An advocate’s quibbling. You fight for yourself.’
‘I remain a champion of humanity, whereas you are the lackey of evil.’
‘Am I?’ said Mortarion. His wings beat softly. ‘Then tell me, Roboute, if our father were so good, look me in the eye and tell me that He loved us all as any father should love his sons.’
Guilliman stared at him, his jaw clenched in anger.
Mortarion laughed. It began as a wheezing in his lungs, thick with phlegm, rattled up his dry throat, and clacked his teeth together behind his breathing mask before hissing out in puffs of yellow gas. ‘You know, don’t you, Roboute? You’ve seen it.’ He wagged one long, skeletal finger at his kin. ‘I knew something was different about you.’ He leaned close. ‘You spoke with Him on Terra. Tell me, what did He say? Did He plead to be released? Did He beg you to be set free from His Golden Throne?’
Guilliman said nothing.
‘Oh, my brother, it cannot be,’ Mortarion said in mock horror. ‘Did He say nothing? Is our father dead?’ He stood back and shook his cadaver’s head. ‘Of course He isn’t, is He? Not in any real sense. Beings like Him are beyond mortality.

I am no primarch, no transhuman demigod, but I still remember when I was nine and I had to take my five year-old brother to the park at night so he wouldn’t hear our parents shouting at each other again. How it felt to smile and tell him yes this was normal and of course everything was fine and wasn’t it great that we had the swings to ourselves? The sheer bloody unfairness of having to carry a burden that shouldn’t be yours, and smile through it, because someone even more vulnerable needs you to tell them that it will be all right. The lie sticks in your throat, and it burns.
That’s what the title of Imperial Regent means. That’s why Guilliman is so bitter. That’s why he renounced the Emperor as his father.

‘You saw, my lord. You saw your father’s light!’
‘He is not my father,’ Guilliman said. ‘He created me, but I assure you, priest, that He was no father. King Konor of Macragge was my father.’

The school bully Mark came up to you with a half eaten sandwich. He tossed it at you and started laughing. His laughing ceased immediately when you threw the sandwich back after getting it wet and soggy. Enraged, Mark threw a punch at you, forgetting that you were a literal fire hydrant. He clutched his fist in pain and ran off. Many people were giggling, but you focus on one person. You make eye contact with Mr. Ham, the teacher who let's almost everything slide. He nods and gives you a thumbs up. People are patting you on the back, sharing it on social media. It's time for 1st of 5 classes. Math. When you walk in, your teacher, Mr. Ham, starts smirking at you.
Chapter 2: "let's give it up to Hydrant for retaliating against Mark!" Mr. Ham shouted. A few people clapped, others stayed silent. After class, you decide to go to a vending machine. The drink vending machine. You needed to refuel somehow. You tor a bottle of water and emptied it. You then filled the bottle with boiled water which was in a faucet in the cafeteria. It's almost time for class 2. Your least favorite class, Language arts. As you walk in, your teacher Mr. Kang walks up to you and shows you your essay. You got a 30/95. Mr. Kang ordered that you explain it. You apologize and say you'll do better next time. Mr. Kang orders you to sit down. The class dragged by, but there was only three weeks left of school.
Chapter 3: In the halls, a girl comes up to you and asks you out on a date. She's pretty. She asks you where you want to go. You asked if she wanted to go to the mall. She gleefully accepted. After achool you walked to her house and knocked on the door. Her dad came outside. He told you to come in. It was awkward when you sat down, so you thought of a conversation starter. You think of three ideas. You decide to talk about your date, Jenny. You tell her dad how kind she is, and her somewhat high popularity in school. Her dad just nods and dismisses you when Jenny comes down. The two of you go outside and you want to think of something to say. You tell her that she's beautiful and she smiles, thanking you. You both chat but when the two of you are about to reach the mall, three men come up to you with knives. They order you to give you their money, but don't notice Jenny. You sprayed the with the boiled water you drank earlier that day. You think about turning back and acting all heroic.
Chapter 4: You turn back, all heroic, and then realize: "bad idea if I wasn't a fire hydrant". One of the robbers swing a metal bar at you. Once it hits you, it completely bends. Suddenly, a cop tackles the criminals and artests them. Jenny called the cops quietly. What do you mean when you chose "say nothing"

Alrighty, let’s get our bearings.
So with supernatural help from the Lord, the Israelites have just mopped the floor with the Philistine army.
The “supernatural help” I’m referring to was the loud thundering from the heavens and a feeling of terror the Lord had caused to well up within the enemy soldiers.
As a result, the Philistines were scattered in all directions.
When we examine this story closely, we see the Israelites really didn’t have to do any fighting at all.
The Philistines had crossed over the border into Canaan to punish Israel for holding what they saw as unlawful assembly at Mitzpah.
But before they could make any headway, the Lord struck their butts down!
Historically, we can see the defeat was just as psychologically devastating as it was physical.
The Philistines were so humiliated that afterwards they ceased stepping foot into Israel for quite some time after that.
The battle also resulted in a power shift and a new political reality coming into place.
The victory was memorialized by Samuel erecting a stone site near the battle site.
Keep in mind, this was the same site where Israel had lost 34,000 men earlier fighting the same enemy.
The Lord had in his sovereignty and divine providence tipped the scales back from one direction to another.
The Philistines had been put back in their place by divine decision.
As a result, Israel enjoyed several years of peace.
This period would give them the stability they needed to to transition from a loosely held together alliance of tribes to a united nation ruled by ONE king.
And that’s your takeaway for today.
God reverses the fortunes of men at His will.
All Israel had to do was repent and obey…
And then the Lord took care of the enemy for them…
It was grace through and through.
They didn’t need superior weapons or manpower.
All Israel needed to do was surrender to the Lord.
And the same goes for you too…
All you have to do is repent and obey…
You don’t need to be cool…
Or possess crazy amounts of money or power…
Just surrender to the Lord…
And let His Grace flow into your life unstoppable and unhindered.

Aboard the Speaking Softly:

Yoivedrill found that he wanted to cry, or hit something. His father was dead. His favorite cousin was dead. Lauded as a heroes, and dead to keep him and his little sisters alive to be sure, but that didn't make it hurt less. So, he wanted to cry, or hit something, but he was too old for an outburst like that. Therefore, he ruminated. Bitter thoughts about being too young to fight alongside his father but too old to break something over it intruded into his thoughts about what his responsibilities are in this situation. He didn't want bother anybody over his problems, as small as they seemed in comparison to the war, certainly not his little sisters, who needed him to tell them that Father's stars watched over them as they wept in his arms, and least of all his mother, who had to coordinate with the King of Jecauvia's chosen ambassidor. Or rather, convince the fop that his nation was actually under threat.
The rumors that floated like asteroids through the corridors of even the "Bleivus" section of the ship, that is the three decks with higher ceilings, wider doors, and lower gravity than the rest of the ship, did little to soothe him. Rumors about people getting killed, killed the way that horrid captain wanted to kill that larva right in front of Yoivedrill's mom. Thousands, millions. Rumors of those crazy people who thought that his great uncle was some kind of eternal emperor from the gods gone even more insane over the murder of the We Sing, even though they never set foot on her. There was always the chance they'd try to crown Great Uncle Greg whatever he wanted. The thought about stories that he'd heard at his great uncle's feet when his ship, Home, docked with the Among the Star Tides We Sing bubbled up in his mind and brought a melancholy smile with them. He'd probably get sent with the evacuation fleet when a Star Sailor ship came through on the way to safety inside the Republic. Maybe he'd go to Repose. Maybe he'd talk to that stark marble cross like he'd seen in the movies. Dark rumors.
He wished there was somebody could talk to, even over the coms. His cousins, John, Rodger, and Linus were all deployed, so no coms until they get recalled. Really, out of that selection, he only got along very will with Linus. Not that the older two were unkind or anything, but they weren't as easy to talk to. That only left Uncle Eric, or Peter, and since Uncle Eric was probably too busy general-ing to talk about how much Yoivedrill missed his father, the general's cousin, much less how much he missed Robbie. That left Peter. Peter who was going through ASDSS school. It wasn't very likely he could get ahold of him, since he was probably doing an infiltration drop drill, or stealth movement drill, or range time, or something. Still though, he picked up the com and selected Peter George's code.
"Yoive, what's up?" he answered. It looked to Yoivedrill that the young man was lounging in his bunk in the barracks .
"Do you have a few minutes? I need someone to talk to…"
There was the sound of cloth shifting across cloth as Peter's voice went slightly flat, "Isn't there anyone, you know, there you can talk to?"
"Mom's trying to talk some sense into this airheaded diplo, and the girls… you really think I can talk to the girls right now? Me? That's not what they need."
Peter pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath, "Shoot."
"I miss them…"
"Me too."
"Sometimes, I wake up and the bunks here feel almost like the We Sing for a second, but then I remember she was murdered. Sometimes I think I hear Robbie laughing with the privates from around the corner, but it's some other RNI. I didn't know anything could hurt this bad," Yoivedrill haltingly explained as the tears began to fall from his eyes and hit the screen of his compad.
"Jesus jumping on a hand grenade, I wish I was there," Peter choked. Then he coughed and said, "I get it, I really do. When our ships met and we could get together in person… The We Sing was like Home. Like Home."
"SHE'S GONE! RIPPED APPART BY A BUNCH OF MURDERES! WE COULDN'T EVEN DECOMISSION HER! WE DON'T EVEN HAVE HER LOGS!" he wailed, in Commercial English, since the language was amenable to shouting.
"Yeah… she gave everything just like her crew," Peter said past the lump in his throat, "I'm glad they fought to get you out, Yoive. They fought for you."
Yoivedrill's pretense at will finally broke and he gave himself over to wordless sobs.
"I'd hold you if I could," his cousin said with obvious anguish, "I wish I was there."
Meanwhile, in another part of the ship, Traevee Drillvee gracefully moved to seat herself across from her counterpart from the Kingdom of Jecauvia, Ambassidor Svestes Sworstas, and offered the traditional invitation to be seated. An impressively complicated gesture with both of her left arms, and as intended, Ambassidor Sworstas was obviously flattered by the formality. "Have you heard back from the prince," she asked cordially as she affected absence in the manner in which she poured the tea.
Ambassidor Sworstas licked his eye before he said, "I haven't yet found the time to compose a letter, Lady Ambassidor."

Traevee resisted a somewhat strong urge to slap the man in hopes of putting some sense into him, and instead affected a lazy disdain as she answered, "It is in the packet I handed you two days ago. Don't tell me that you've been too busy to go through it."
"Well, I was, I am a very important man, I'll have you know."
"Yes, it is your job to keep the crown informed on how the international stage shifts and moves, in case it affects the interests of the Kingdom of Jecauvia, such as for instance, being invaded by genocidal maniacs."
"Well, yes that is my job, and as you can imagine I have many demands on my time."
"Shall I invite Ambassador Laurent to our next meeting?"

"See that you do, I would hate it if the Speaking Softly had to fly into low orbit over the royal palace to finally secure a meeting with either one of the princes or the queen."
"I assure you, that won't be necissary," he stammered.
