CHP1: Robyn Charlemagne, a vivacious 18-year-old with cascading chestnut curls, slipped through the smoky haze of the private back room in a popular southern California nightclub. The room was cloaked in an air of mystery, its walls adorned with crimson velvet curtains and dimly lit by chandeliers dripping with crystal teardrops. The soft strains of jazz music floated through the air, mingling with the raucous laughter and clinking glasses from the main club area. Tonight, the clientele was a sea of fancy dress and inebriated youth, their inhibitions drowned in the intoxicating mix of alcohol and euphoria.
Robyn, dressed in a figure-hugging black cocktail dress, had dreams of becoming a successful actress. However, her current reality consisted of serving patrons in the upscale restaurant known as "The Golden Elysium," where the elite of Hollywood often dined. It was a place where whispers of fame and fortune danced in the air, mingling with the scent of truffle-infused delicacies.
Meanwhile, Caspian Mortcombe, a dashing and enigmatic film producer in his early thirties, cut a striking figure amidst the crowd. With his commanding presence and sharp jawline, he exuded an air of regal authority. Caspian had recently acquired a reputation for his underground noir films, casting a shadow on the mainstream industry. In search of fresh talent for his next project, he found himself drawn to the allure of this bustling nightclub.
Robyn's naive charm and captivating beauty caught Caspian's discerning eye, and he saw potential in her untapped talent. As he approached her, his dark eyes pierced through her, conveying both power and dominance. He wore an impeccably tailored suit, an extension of his personality, that spoke volumes about his wealth and influence.
The room was guarded by a bouncer, known simply as "Big John." A towering figure with a shaved head and a muscular build, he was a black mountain of strength. Caspian had made sure to slip him some extra cash to ensure their privacy in this secluded space. Big John maintained a watchful eye, ensuring no interruptions disturbed the affairs unfolding within these velvet-draped walls.
As Caspian engaged Robyn in conversation, his magnetic presence captivated her impressionable heart. The allure of the silver screen beckoned, and Robyn found herself drawn into Caspian's web. He regaled her with tales of his past successes, painting a vivid picture of a world far beyond the glimmering lights of the nightclub. Robyn's airheadedness and dreams of stardom made her susceptible to Caspian's charm, her aspirations blinding her to the underlying motives driving his interest.
Their encounter unfolded against the backdrop of a time when grunge music and flannel shirts defined the alternative culture of Southern California. It was a world where wild house parties and underground clubs whispered secrets of rebellion and freedom, carving out a space for artistic expression in the heart of an industry dominated by conformity.
In this dimly lit room, where dreams clashed with reality, Robyn and Caspian's lives collided. The stage was set for a seductive dance of power, ambition, and manipulation, the boundaries between desire and exploitation blurred. Little did Robyn know that this encounter would mark the beginning of a twisted journey, a tale woven with passion, deceit, and shattered dreams.
As the night wore on, and the echoes of jazz music faded into the early morning hours, Robyn and Caspian found themselves tangled in a dangerous game, oblivious to the consequences lurking in the shadows. And behind the velvet curtains, the secrets of the night whispered their unholy promise, sealing their fates in a world where passion and ambition intermingled, where nothing was as it seemed.
The private back room had become a secret haven for Robyn and Caspian. Their clandestine meetings unfolded like a carefully choreographed dance, fueled by their shared desires and ambitions. Robyn's infatuation with Caspian grew with each passing day, as he expertly played the role of mentor and seducer.
Caspian, aware of Robyn's impressionable nature, used his position of power to mold her into his ideal actress. Under his tutelage, she blossomed, her raw talent and beauty refined through his guidance. He pushed her limits, pushing her to explore the darkest corners of her emotions, blurring the line between fiction and reality.
As Robyn's days at "The Golden Elysium" turned into a blur of serving plates and nodding at patrons, her nights became an intoxicating whirlwind of auditions, rehearsals, and stolen moments with Caspian. The boundaries of their relationship were hazy, a web of desire, control, and artistic collaboration.
Meanwhile, the enigmatic Big John kept a watchful eye, guarding their secrets as if they were his own. His imposing presence served as a constant reminder of the shadows lurking behind their glamorous facade. Caspian had ensured their privacy with a hefty sum, and Big John remained steadfast in his loyalty.
CHP2: One fateful evening, as the neon lights of the nightclub flickered outside, Robyn found herself alone in the back room. Caspian had promised her an important announcement, one that would change the course of her life forever. The anticipation hung heavy in the air as she waited, her heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.
The door swung open, revealing Caspian's commanding figure. His eyes, usually filled with intensity, now held a hint of vulnerability. Robyn sensed a shift in their dynamic, a subtle change that made her pulse quicken.
"Robyn," Caspian began, his voice tinged with emotion, "I've secured a role for you in my next film. It's a daring, provocative project that will challenge your limits as an actress."
Robyn's eyes widened with delight and apprehension. She had longed for this moment, to step into the spotlight and leave her mark on the silver screen. But as Caspian detailed the role, she couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something was amiss. The character was complex, enigmatic, and dangerously close to mirroring her own life.
As rehearsals commenced, Robyn found herself diving headfirst into the depths of her character's psyche. The lines blurred further, reality intertwining with fiction in a dizzying dance of passion and manipulation. Caspian's influence over her grew stronger, his control tightening like a vice around her fragile dreams.
But as Robyn delved deeper into her role, the shadows surrounding Caspian began to unravel. Whispers of his questionable tactics and dubious alliances reached her ears, casting doubt upon their once-promising collaboration. The world of underground noir cinema revealed itself to be a treacherous labyrinth of deceit and power plays.
And so, Robyn stood at a crossroads, torn between her burning desire for fame and the nagging doubts that gnawed at her conscience. The allure of the silver screen had drawn her into a dangerous game, one where the line between passion and exploitation was blurred beyond recognition.
CHP3: Robyn stood before the ornate vanity mirror, her reflection fragmented in a sea of gleaming glass. The weight of uncertainty pressed upon her shoulders as she prepared for another day of shooting Caspian's provocative film. The character she portrayed consumed her, merging with her own identity until she could no longer distinguish where the role ended and she began.
On set, the atmosphere crackled with tension. Caspian's domineering presence loomed, his eyes scrutinizing every movement, every line delivered by the actors. The crew whispered in hushed tones about the mysterious underbelly of Caspian's productions, tales of compromising compromises and blurred ethical lines.
As the cameras rolled, Robyn surrendered herself to the role, surrendering her soul to the art of deception. The character demanded sacrifice, extracting fragments of her true self with each take. The passionate scenes with her co-star ignited a tempestuous fire within her, further blurring the boundaries of reality.
Yet, amidst the chaos, Robyn's intuition screamed for her to break free from Caspian's grasp. Doubts gnawed at her spirit, reminding her of the stories she had heard, the warnings whispered by those who had fallen victim to Caspian's manipulations. But her dreams of stardom held her captive, the allure of fame weaving a seductive spell around her vulnerable heart.
One evening, after a particularly intense scene, Robyn found herself alone in the dimly lit corridor outside her dressing room. She gazed at her reflection in a nearby mirror, searching for traces of the girl she used to be. Her eyes, once bright with innocence, now reflected a flicker of uncertainty and defiance.
As if summoned by her thoughts, the door to her dressing room creaked open, revealing Caspian's imposing figure. His face, once a mask of control, betrayed a glimpse of vulnerability. He took a hesitant step toward her, his voice tinged with a mixture of regret and desperation.
"Robyn, I never meant for it to be like this," Caspian began, his voice laced with a fragile sincerity. "I have made mistakes, pushed boundaries, but it was all in pursuit of creating something truly extraordinary."
Robyn's heart wavered, torn between the remnants of affection she held for Caspian and the growing realization of the toxic dynamic that had ensnared her. She mustered the strength to meet his gaze, her voice filled with a newfound determination.
"Caspian, I can no longer ignore the whispers that surround you," she declared, her words resonating with newfound courage. "I refuse to be a pawn in your game, sacrificing my sanity and self-worth for the sake of art."
Caspian's face contorted with a mix of anger and desperation, his grip on control slipping like sand through his fingers. He pleaded, his voice desperate and raw.
"Robyn, you don't understand," he whispered, his eyes pleading for forgiveness. "I can make you a star. I can give you everything you've ever dreamed of."
But Robyn's resolve remained unshaken. She stepped back, reclaiming her autonomy, her voice steady and unwavering.
"I'd rather carve my own path, even if it means sacrificing the fame you promise," she asserted, her spirit ignited with a newfound sense of liberation.
As Robyn walked away from the suffocating grip of Caspian's influence, a weight lifted from her shoulders. She embraced the uncertainty of the future, determined to forge her own destiny in a world where art and integrity could coexist.
CHP4: Robyn's decision to break free from Caspian's grip marked a turning point in her life, but the aftermath was far from the fairy tale she had envisioned. The offers that flooded in were not the golden opportunities she had dreamed of but instead invitations to auditions for seedy productions that prized her physical attributes over her talent.
Determined to make a name for herself on her own terms, Robyn reluctantly stepped into the world of auditions, finding herself in dimly lit rooms with questionable characters. One such audition led her to the doorstep of "The Velvet Rose," a small production company that specialized in adult films masquerading as art.
The setting was a dilapidated warehouse, transformed into a makeshift studio adorned with flickering neon lights and tattered velvet curtains. The air hung heavy with the scent of stale cigarettes and cheap perfume. Robyn, dressed in a simple black dress that contrasted with the flamboyant costumes around her, entered the room with a mix of trepidation and determination.
The director, a sleazy middle-aged man named Marcus, oozed an air of false charm as he beckoned Robyn forward. His leering gaze made her skin crawl, but she swallowed her discomfort, determined to prove her talent transcended the grim circumstances.
The audition scene called for Robyn to showcase vulnerability, to bare her soul under the guise of artistry. As she performed, her words filled the room, carrying a poignant truth that momentarily silenced Marcus's predatory gaze. But the spell was broken as Marcus cut her off, his expression morphing into a lewd smirk.
"Not bad, sweetheart," he sneered. "But let's see if you're as good in other... aspects."
Robyn's heart sank as she realized the true nature of this production. She had unwittingly stumbled into a den of exploitation, where talent and integrity took a backseat to the basest desires. With a sense of resignation and a flicker of defiance, she mustered the strength to walk away, leaving behind the suffocating atmosphere of "The Velvet Rose."
Undeterred, Robyn sought auditions in different corners of the industry, hoping to find a glimpse of genuine artistic expression. But time and again, she encountered the same bleak reality—a world where her talent was overshadowed by the allure of her physicality.
In a seedy underground theater called "The Midnight Masquerade," Robyn found herself surrounded by performers who had long lost their dreams to a cycle of vice and indulgence. The stage was set for a twisted cabaret, where darkness and desire entwined in a grotesque ballet of desperation.
The director, a jaded man named Vincent, exuded an air of faded glamour as he navigated the tangled web of his performers' lives. Each audition felt like a performance within a performance, as Robyn tried to impress Vincent while disguising her own crumbling spirit. But the allure of the Midnight Masquerade was tainted, a haunting reminder that her journey had taken a detour into a world she never anticipated.
Robyn's encounters with these seedy production groups became a mirror of her own unraveling dreams. With each rejection, she felt the weight of compromise pressing upon her, threatening to extinguish the spark that had once ignited her passion for acting.
As Robyn navigated the grim underbelly of the industry, she found solace in the fragments of genuine connections she forged with fellow actors. In the midst of this dark landscape, she discovered kindred spirits who yearned for artistic integrity as fervently as she did. Together, they formed a small collective, vowing to support one another and create their own path forward, away from the shadows that had swallowed their dreams.
CHP5: The collective formed by Robyn and her fellow actors had become a lifeline in the tumultuous world of seedy auditions and compromised dreams. Their bond grew stronger with each passing day, their shared experiences forging an unbreakable connection. They sought solace in late-night conversations, their voices echoing through dimly lit cafes and hidden speakeasies.
Amidst their collective struggle, a glimmer of hope appeared on the horizon—an opportunity to perform at "The Twilight Theater," a renowned establishment known for its commitment to artistic excellence. The theater's marquee, adorned with sparkling lights, beckoned to those who craved authenticity in a world of smoke and mirrors.
Excitement filled the air as Robyn and her companions prepared for their debut on the Twilight stage. The backstage area buzzed with energy, costumes strewn about, makeup artists applying final touches to anxious faces. The scent of anticipation mingled with the hum of the crowd beyond the velvet curtains.
But fate, with its capricious nature, had other plans in store. A sudden tragedy struck, shattering the camaraderie that had blossomed within the collective. A devastating fire ravaged the Twilight Theater, reducing it to ashes and tears. Dreams were shattered in the inferno, leaving Robyn and her companions adrift, the ties that bound them abruptly severed.
Heartbroken and alone, Robyn found herself forced back into the seedy underbelly of the industry. Necessity became her cruel mistress, driving her to take a job on a film so deplorable that even the darkest corners of her imagination could not have conjured its horrors.
The production was called "Crimson Temptation," a vile amalgamation of exploitation and degradation. The set resembled a dilapidated warehouse, its once grandeur now decayed and repurposed for the darkest desires. The stench of desperation clung to the air, mingling with the sweat and despair of the cast and crew.
Robyn's character, Amelia, was a pawn in the hands of a sadistic director named Donovan. His presence exuded a sinister charm, his eyes gleaming with malevolence as he reveled in his perverse creation. Donovan's demands pushed Robyn to the brink, forcing her to perform acts that violated her soul, leaving her feeling tainted and broken.
In the depths of her despair, Robyn's spirit flickered like a dying ember, but a spark of resilience remained. She clung to it fiercely, finding solace in the memory of the collective she had lost. Their voices echoed in her mind, reminding her of the strength she possessed, urging her to fight against the chains that bound her.
With each degrading scene, Robyn's determination grew, transforming her pain into a simmering rage. She saw through the facade of "Crimson Temptation," recognizing it for what it truly was—a testament to the darkest aspects of human desire. And in that recognition, she vowed to reclaim her power and break free from its suffocating grip.
CHP6: The dimly lit alley behind the decrepit warehouse where "Crimson Temptation" was filmed served as an unlikely backdrop for an unexpected encounter. Robyn, her spirit bruised but not broken, found herself face-to-face with Caspian Mortcombe, the man who had once held both her dreams and her heart in his hands.
Their reunion crackled with tension, emotions swirling in the air like a storm waiting to break. The flickering streetlamp cast shadows across Caspian's chiseled features, emphasizing the intensity in his dark eyes. Robyn, defensive yet filled with a longing she couldn't deny, met his gaze with equal fire.
"You've stooped to new depths, Robyn," Caspian stated, his voice laced with a mixture of disappointment and concern. "Reducing yourself to this—"
Robyn cut him off, her voice tinged with regret and defiance. "You don't understand, Caspian. I never wanted this, but I had no choice. I'm fighting to survive in a world that's swallowed my dreams whole."
Caspian stepped closer, his voice softening with a mix of understanding and lingering desire. "I know the darkness of this industry, the compromises it demands. But you're capable of so much more, Robyn. I've seen it in you."
Their eyes locked, the intensity of their connection reigniting a long-buried flame. Robyn's heart yearned for Caspian's touch, his presence a reminder of the passion they once shared. A surge of desire pulsed through her veins, drowning out the doubts that had plagued her.
In that dimly lit alley, surrounded by the remnants of broken dreams, Robyn and Caspian gave in to their shared longing. Their bodies pressed against one another, their lips finding solace in a forbidden embrace. The raw electricity that had always existed between them crackled to life once more, their connection transcending the boundaries of reason and consequence.
As their bodies intertwined, the weight of their past dissolved, leaving only the present moment—their shared desire, their mutual understanding of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of their dreams. In that stolen moment, they found solace in one another, a respite from the darkness that threatened to consume them.
But as their passion ebbed and reality seeped back in, Robyn pulled away, a mixture of longing and regret etched upon her face. "We can't keep doing this, Caspian," she whispered, her voice filled with resignation. "The world we live in won't allow it."
Caspian's eyes bore into her, a mix of anguish and determination. "I refuse to let the industry define us, Robyn. Together, we can rise above its darkness and create something extraordinary. We can reclaim our dreams."
Robyn's heart wavered, torn between the love she still held for Caspian and the need to protect herself from further pain. But in that moment, a glimmer of hope flickered within her, reigniting the fire of her dreams. Perhaps, against all odds, they could find a way to navigate the treacherous path of their desires, where passion and artistry intertwined.
CHP7: The California coastline stretched before them, the crashing waves a symphony of freedom. Robyn and Caspian, drawn together by an undeniable force, found solace in stolen moments, their time together becoming a refuge from the chaos of their respective lives.
They sought refuge in a quaint beach house, nestled amidst a picturesque landscape of sandy dunes and rolling waves. The scent of salt lingered in the air, mingling with the intoxicating fragrance of blooming flowers. Here, they could escape the prying eyes and suffocating expectations of the industry that had brought them together once again.
In the golden hues of twilight, Robyn's laughter filled the air as Caspian recounted tales of their shared past, his voice a balm to her weary soul. Their connection, forged in passion and ambition, had stood the test of time, its flame reigniting with a fervor that defied reason.
But as their blissful respite carried on, the producer of "Crimson Temptation," a man consumed by jealousy and greed, grew increasingly restless. Donovan, a ruthless figure with a penchant for control, confronted Caspian one evening, the tension between them palpable.
"What do you think you're doing, Mortcombe?" Donovan sneered, his voice laced with venom. "You think you can just steal my budding starlet and get away with it?"
Caspian met Donovan's gaze, his own eyes blazing with defiance. "I'm not stealing anyone, Donovan. Robyn is not a possession to be claimed. We have a connection that goes beyond the confines of this industry."
Donovan's face contorted with rage, his voice seething with a dangerous edge. "Mark my words, Mortcombe. If you continue down this path, you'll regret it. I have the power to destroy everything you hold dear."
Caspian stood tall, his voice steady and resolute. "You underestimate us, Donovan. Love and passion are stronger than any threat you can conjure. We will not be controlled by your darkness."
As Donovan stormed off, the threat hanging in the air like a noose, Caspian returned to Robyn's side, his presence a shield against the encroaching storm. Their bond deepened with each passing day, their love an anchor in the tempestuous sea of the entertainment world.
Together, they vowed to navigate the treacherous currents of the industry, to create art that spoke to their souls and defied the conventions that sought to confine them. They became each other's muse, igniting creativity and passion with a single glance or touch.
In the late hours of the night, as the moon cast a silvery glow over their entwined bodies, Caspian whispered words of adoration, his voice filled with a mixture of reverence and longing. Robyn, her heart brimming with love, echoed his sentiments, their declarations intertwining like the intricate brushstrokes of a masterpiece.
CHP8: The weight of the industry's demands and expectations bore down upon Robyn and Caspian, threatening to extinguish the flame of their love and creativity. But in the face of adversity, they made a daring decision—to break free from the clutches of the entertainment world and forge their own path.
In the quaint beach house that had become their sanctuary, Robyn and Caspian hatched a plan. They would take their art into their own hands, reclaiming their creative freedom and sidestepping the suffocating constraints of the industry. Their vision became clear—they would create intimate and authentic films, placing their work directly into the hands of their audience.
With trembling excitement and a sense of rebellious liberation, they embarked on their new venture. They turned to a platform called "OnlyFans," a place where they could showcase their films without compromise. It was a risk, a departure from the traditional avenues of success, but they held onto the belief that true artistry lay in the hands of those who were unafraid to challenge conventions.
The beach house became their makeshift studio, a haven where their visions could come to life. Robyn's natural beauty radiated as Caspian captured her essence through the lens of his camera. Each frame whispered of their connection, their love and creativity intertwined in a seamless dance.
As they released their first independent film on OnlyFans, their audience responded with an overwhelming embrace. Their work resonated with those hungry for raw emotion and unfiltered storytelling. Robyn and Caspian became a symbol of artistic rebellion, a beacon of authenticity in an industry plagued by artifice.
In the intimacy of their digital platform, Robyn and Caspian found solace and empowerment. They were no longer subject to the whims of producers or the suffocating demands of the industry. Their art was created on their own terms, nourished by the connection they shared and the unyielding passion that burned within them.
As their independent films gained recognition, they became pioneers, inspiring other artists to reclaim their voices and redefine the boundaries of creativity. Robyn and Caspian reveled in the knowledge that they had escaped the clutches of the industry, creating their own world of artistry and freedom.
In the twilight of the beach house, with the sound of crashing waves as their soundtrack, Robyn and Caspian made a vow to one another—a vow to continue defying expectations, to never compromise their artistic integrity, and to forever choose love over the trappings of fame and success.
Together, they embarked on a journey of self-discovery and creative fulfillment, their spirits entwined as they blazed a trail of artistic rebellion. Their love, once threatened by the darkness of the industry, had found a refuge in their shared passion and unwavering devotion.

*Round #1 7/4/22 - 12/31/22* Start date: 1/22/23 Movie watched: 5/3/23 Rate: 0.5/5 Watched @ YouTube IMDB : The Sword and the Rose (1953)
"You were less squeamish with Charles Brandon. Am I so low and loathsome? The blood of Plantagenet kings flows in my veins, you brat of a Welsh father."
BOOOOOO! This movie blowed and it was by the same director, how far he had fallen from Robin Hood.
The story line follows Mary Tudor and it had very little accuracy, it was so off the mark that it hurt. Also it has the same two actors from the prior film! Just like Bobby Driscoll, Disney wanted to get its moneys worth. The costuming was bad, though it might have been the quality of the video, I wasn't going to pay $3.99 to rent it for better. The only good scene was watching the scandal dancing of her being picked up and twirled.

2023.06.01 03:49 AncientProof Ancientproof #119 : Ken Annakin"Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men" 1952

*Round #1 7/4/22 - 12/31/22*
Start date: 1/22/23 Movie watched: 4/31/23 Rate: 4/5 Watched @ Disney+ IMDB : Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952)
"Find one bad penny, you'll find two."
If this movie had one thing it was style! I could not get enough of the clothing and the style. I want that thick cape the interim King had. It looked so cozy and warm.
I won't lie most of the rating is coming from the costume department, the story line was the same Robin Hood story and the actors were fun, but I couldn't stop thinking about the outfits. One scene that will stick with me forever is when Robin and the Priest are doing this weird verbal duel and then start fighting each other. All for it to end up with them carrying each other over a small river bed.
I only remember the animated version Disney did, but this was a fun watch and had good elements.

2023.06.01 03:45 Soalai Every Old Tour Performance Ranked (Fearless through Reputation)

Disclaimer: This is an old post. I wrote it in March but it was never approved until now.
In preparation for Eras' opening night, I went back and watched every previous tour in full, either the official DVDs, or other full filmed versions if the DVD was unavailable or incomplete. Then I tried to rank all the performances.
This is not a ranking of the song itself but rather the presentation, staging, originality, etc. Surprise songs from the same tour will all count as one. Would love to know your favorites, and how you think Eras stacks up!
91. Speak Now World Tour – Fearless / Hey, Soul Sister / I'm Yours
The start of this tour's acoustic set, where she sat under a tree, strumming the ukulele. Points for the outfit, but I think this was an inferior arrangement of this particular song.
#. Red Tour – Treacherous
Weird choices were made here. Why was she wearing a tutu and dancing ballet for one of her most serious, adult songs? Why was this the main set closer? I think this would have worked better during the acoustic set, then she could close with Everything Has Changed or something. Still hard to complain about the song itself, though. The fog machines suited it.
89. Fearless Tour – Our Song
Cute, but she mostly just stood in one place and there was some awkward butt shaking in the middle.
88. Fearless Tour – White Horse
Part of the acoustic set. It followed Tim McGraw, but I think two songs that slow wasn't a good pacing choice and this one just doesn't fill an arena the way Tim McGraw does.
87. Red Tour – Stay Stay Stay / Ho Hey
I'm surprised this was part of the set. She did it basically how you'd expect, bopping around, kinda campy. I like how she had a moment goofing around with Amos.
86. Red Tour – Holy Ground
This song is made for a stadium setting, but I really think she should have been playing the guitar during it, or somehow done more. The way it was, it just sounded like noise. The dancers dressed like sirens did liven it up, but were also kinda cartoony.
85. 1989 World Tour – I Wish You Would
Basically the same performance she already did like three times before in the show. The real MVP was that one dancer in the back who did a flip off the chin-up bar.
84. Fearless Tour – Teardrops On My Guitar
I like how they turned the big screens into bookshelves, to continue the imagery of both high school and fairy tales. However, the singing didn't sound great here.
83. Speak Now World Tour – Fifteen
Sounded fuller than the Fearless tour version, but I think the giant princess gown didn't really suit the song. (Some shows also had her performing Ours in this spot.)
82. Fearless Tour – Fifteen
The first more intimate performance in this tour. She was seated and you can tell from the look in her eyes that the song made her feel nostalgic. Some videos of this have a teal dress and some have yellow; I prefer the teal.
81. Speak Now World Tour – Surprise Covers
A variety of covers on the guitar, during her acoustic set. She showed her versatility here as she did everything from classics to modern hits.
80. Fearless Tour – Hey Stephen
The one where she snuck around the hallways and popped out on the other side of the stadium. Great for the nosebleeds.
79. Red Tour – State Of Grace
She started off behind a red curtain, her silhouette singing the opening lines. (Unfortunately, the videos I watched had her struggling a lot with her earpiece and singing totally off-key for the first verse, but I know that wouldn't have happened every night.) A decent rock banger to open the show, if a little repetitive.
78. Red Tour – I Almost Do
The first of this tour's acoustic performances on the B stage. Nothing terrible but nothing remarkable either. It was about the lyrics and emotions, not the theatrics.
77. Red Tour – Begin Again
Staged the same way as I Almost Do, which was an appropriate way to do this song, but I can't help but think it would have worked better closer to the end.
76. 1989 World Tour – Bad Blood
It was fine, but by this point in the concert, I'm tired of the same kind of performance again.
75. Fearless Tour – Tell Me Why
Typical energetic angry Tay performance. She made some weird movements but that silver dress was everything.
74. Speak Now World Tour – The Story Of Us
Similar to Tell Me Why above from the previous tour.
73. Speak Now World Tour – Last Kiss
This version was a tad faster than the studio version, and the vocal delivery wasn't quite as sad; the sighs and the faint quiver in her voice that people love so much weren't really there. Still a nice rendition. The crowd was sobbing.
72. 1989 World Tour – Love Story
A nice synth arrangement that wisely went in a different direction than the older tours. By this point, both she and the audience had outgrown the princess gowns. However, I was kinda waiting for something more to happen, like fireworks or something.
71. Fearless Tour (2009 only) – Change
A faithful adaptation of this song, and a good choice for the main set closer.
70. 1989 World Tour – Welcome To New York
That was a lot of dancers! A decent opener, flashy and just '80s enough.
69. Red Tour – You Belong With Me
A sort of girl group throwback, with Taylor and the backup singers in matching red dresses and gloves. It was OK, and a good choice to perform one of her smash hits years later, but quite removed from the teenage angst this song came from.
68. 1989 World Tour – New Romantics
Similar to Welcome To New York which preceded it, this one worked early in the set almost as well as it works to close the deluxe album. Love her blue eyeshadow.
67. Speak Now World Tour – Mine
Pretty straightforward, but the red guitar is a nice touch. (Was she already dropping hints at Red?)
66. Red Tour – Sparks Fly
On a hanging platform that slowly moved around the arena, while the screens in back showed actual sparks. It was cool, but I'm not sure it was the best idea to limit her movement for arguably the loudest, most energetic song in her catalog at the time.
65. 1989 World Tour – I Knew You Were Trouble
The rock version. A bit slow and heavy but I appreciate her doing something new with the song.
64. 1989 World Tour – This Love
Could have been part of the acoustic set, but instead she upped the electronic and bass sounds and added fireworks. A nice breather before the last few songs.
63. Reputation Stadium Tour – End Game
Solid, but didn't stand out among the shenanigans of the other songs early in the show.
62. Red Tour – Everything Has Changed (with Ed Sheeran)
This one had a laid back feel that matches the song, but the raised platform and fans waving their lights gave it a little something extra. Ed sounded great. I kinda respect that he made no attempt to dress to the aesthetic.
61. Fearless Tour (2009 only) – I'm Only Me When I'm With You (with Kellie Pickler and Gloriana)
A very energetic country number with all the opening performers, the first of a two-song finale.
60. Speak Now World Tour – Surprise Guest Songs
She didn't have one at every show of this tour, but they were all pretty fun, with a mix of genres. The crowd, of course, loved them. It's really amazing to see how many friendships and connections she made in the industry, even early on.
59. Red Tour – Surprise Guest Songs
See above. Every one of these videos I found, Taylor had a different outfit, which is impressive.
58. Speak Now World Tour – You Belong With Me
She walked from the B stage back to the main stage, hugging and shaking hands with fans along the way. It's clear from including this song that, though Speak Now was a more adult album than Fearless, she knew most of her fans were still teenagers and still needed these songs about high school.
57. Fearless Tour – You Belong With Me
Her vocals weren't strong in the clips that I watched, but the costume was iconic.
56. Fearless Tour – The Way I Loved You
Sometimes done in the silveblack dress and sometimes in the purple. The way she moved between the two halves of the stage was pretty on-the-nose for the song, but I love how she featured Grant the guitarist. Hair Force One for the win! Also, it was a crime that they left this off the Journey to Fearless DVD.
55. Red Tour – The Lucky One
Taylor was dressed like a retro Hollywood starlet, and the dancers were paparazzi with cameras or screaming fans. A very literal presentation of this song which probably helped it stick in people's minds more.
54. Reputation Stadium Tour – Style / Love Story / You Belong With Me
I think Style was a weird choice to mash up with these two songs, but it worked well enough as a showcase for the band, many of whom had been with her over a decade by this point.
53. 1989 World Tour – Blank Space
She said her goal here was to recreate the music video, but I'm not sure this really conveyed the message of the song; she should have interacted with the dancers more to achieve that effect. Still a very entertaining performance, though.
52. 1989 World Tour – All You Had To Do Was Stay
The cherry on top: columns of blue smoke shot out every time the distorted voice squeaked "stay!" Not sure what was up with that chair, though.
51. Red Tour – 22
A big party, just as this song should be. I'm sure that, when seeing it live, the energy would have been off the charts. The choreography was impressive, more than we usually see from her.
50. Fearless Tour – Picture To Burn
The screens were on fire, so it's exactly how you'd expect her to stage this song. The guitar slayed.
49. Reputation Stadium Tour – Blank Space
I think the red bodysuit, gyrating choreography, and multiple Taylors on the back screen actually better conveyed the "character" she's playing in the song. Like she's this femme fatale with multiple personalities.
48. 1989 World Tour – Clean
Now here's a song that could have used some fake rain, somehow. Even so, the images on the big screen were quite lovely.
47. Speak Now World Tour – Mean
I think it was a good choice to keep this one simple. Just that porch-shaped mini stage with her band beside her. The song itself is a whole mood, so it didn't need a lot of theatrics.
46. Red Tour – Mean
Basically the same as the Speak Now performance, just with a different outfit and shaped stage.
45. Reputation Stadium Tour – Call It What You Want
Not as big a song as most of this album, but a nice warm moment before the crazy finale. I do dig the purple dress, and how the dancer she danced with was a redhead (not unlike a certain British actor).
44. Fearless Tour – Tim McGraw
Making this slow dance into exactly what it was meant to be: a swaying sing-along, everyone's phones or lighters in the air. She walked through the crowd to hug the fans.
43. Speak Now World Tour – Dear John
For the first couple verses, she just sat on the arch/bridge thing, and I kinda wondered if anything else was going to happen. Then I said "holy shit!" as the fireworks exploded up everywhere. We know she may never perform this one again, so I have serious FOMO that I did not see this show back then.
42. Speak Now World Tour – Speak Now
First time she wore the distinct purple Speak Now dress, possibly the outfit of the era. The crowd were singing along like crazy. The scenery definitely brought the song to life even if it normally isn't the most energetic from the era. She walked through the crowd shaking hands while the wedding guests tossed the bouquet around, wearing the most late 2000s/early 2010s party dresses imaginable.
41. Fearless Tour – Forever & Always
Boy was she pissed at a certain Jonas back then. Red dress, red microphone, red couch, red text on the back screen saying "They shouldn't do bad things." The notes in head voice sound kinda weak, but she nailed the high note with the microphone lean. Insane stumbling down the stairs and throwing herself all over the stage. Very extra.
40. Speak Now World Tour – Better Than Revenge
Reminiscent of the Forever & Always performance, but her vocals were better here. Grant and Paul got a guitar solo (or duet, I guess).
39. Reputation Stadium Tour – Getaway Car
Sonically, all but identical to the studio version. The "Why She Disappeared" poem beforehand and the desert visuals onscreen complemented it and helped turn it into more of a story.
38. Reputation Stadium Tour – King Of My Heart
The huge drums were a great touch. You can see how happy she was, which didn't always come across with just a superficial listen to the Rep album tracks.
37. Fearless Tour – Fearless
One of my favorite songs sounded even better live. Her smile, stomping and spinning around, totally captured the spirit of the song. Bonus points for adding in the name of the city each night.
36. Fearless Tour – You're Not Sorry / What Goes Around…Comes Around
First appearance of the piano head flip. These two songs worked decently mashed up, but I wonder how it would have been if she stayed at the piano the whole time.
35. 1989 World Tour – I Know Places
The moving doors were pretty cool.
34. 1989 World Tour – Surprise Songs
The raised walkway and whole stadium lit up blue was an excellent way to do the acoustic set. Props to her for not sitting down the way she did on the other tours, that had to take stamina. (In my heart, the sing-along of You Are In Love from the DVD is the "canon" performance here because it was part of the album.)
33. 1989 World Tour – Style
Probably the most effective use of the catwalk, given how it perfectly fit the lyrics. The dancers were brave for roller skating on it.
32. Reputation Stadium Tour – Bad Blood / Should've Said No
Another snake, this time a skeletal one transporting her to the upper stage. These songs worked very well mashed up; just listen how the crowd went nuts at that first banjo lick.
31. Reputation Stadium Tour – Dress
Another huge improvement from the studio version. It wasn't as high pitched, therefore more listenable. The sheets waving around everywhere were a nice subtle way to remind us what this song was about, in case people were too distracted by the pretty lights and synths to listen to the lyrics.
30. 1989 World Tour – Enchanted / Wildest Dreams
By this point, the piano mash-ups while wearing a long gown were getting kind of predictable. However, this was a great choice of mash-up and I dig whatever shape that piano was supposed to be.
29. Speak Now World Tour – Long Live
Another song that's tailor-made for a stadium just the way it is. The sparkly silver guitar was perfect.
28. Red Tour – Red
Now this is how you do a rock number. She had the sparkly red guitar and the dancers were waving giant red sheets all around.
27. Fearless Tour – Love Story
Once again, iconic. Ball gowns twirling until she changed into a white wedding dress, which def looked more like a prom dress. The backgrounds on the screen were low-res by today's standards, but this is what a lot of people still think of when they think of Taylor Swift.
26. Red Tour – Love Story
Similar to the Fearless tour version, with different costumes. The vocals weren't good in the video I watched, but we know she can do it. I especially like the moment where she grabbed her dance partner and ran across the stage with him – "escape this town for a little while."
25. Reputation Stadium Tour – Gorgeous
Classy move to use this song to introduce the dancers and backup singers. Also those cats in the Netflix recording – were they on the screens at the actual tour?!
24. Reputation Stadium Tour – Delicate
Finally bringing some color, as well as this era's version of the floating cage. The song is more romantic than what came before, but the gold tendrils wrapping around were still reminiscent of snakes.
23. Reputation Stadium Tour – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together / This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things
An all-out romp to close the show.
22. Reputation Stadium Tour – Surprise Songs
Your feelings about this will probably depend on the individual song, especially if you saw the tour live. The videos I've seen were all great, showcasing how her vocals and guitar skills improve with every tour. Also, probably the last time we'll ever hear the 5-minute ATW live.
21. 1989 World Tour – Shake It Off
Basically the only way to do this song. I dig the royal blue.
20. Speak Now World Tour – Our Song
A definite improvement from the Fearless tour version. The prairie dress, the braid, dueting with Caitlin the fiddle player, and much more movement around the stage.
19. Speak Now World Tour – Sparks Fly
DROP EVERYTHING NOW! Excellent choice to start with this instead of Mine. The dress legit looked like it's sewn out of fireworks.
18. Red Tour – All Too Well
No frills, just Taylor at a red piano and this magnificent song swelling until it filled the whole arena. Her voice was quite raw and emotional here.
17. 1989 World Tour – Surprise Guest Songs
A major feature of this tour, done at every show.
16. Reputation Stadium Tour – Shake It Off (with Charli XCX and Camila Cabello)
As well done as the 1989 Tour version was, this one was a step up. I love the snakes bopping around. The message of this song worked just as well with the themes of Rep.
15. Reputation Stadium Tour – Dancing With Our Hands Tied
(Or So It Goes, in some performances.) Arguably the finest of all her acoustic sets. Beautiful stripped-down renditions of songs that I overlooked at first on the album. Some people say DWOHT is her most romantic song, and you can see why here. I also love the green get-up, which was still reminiscent of the snake motif but had its own flavor.
14. 1989 World Tour – Out Of the Woods
The forceful yet stuttering choreography really served the anxious nature of the song. The paper airplanes whizzing back and forth were a nice touch. Also the perfect spot in the show to put it – very climactic.
13. Red Tour – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
The finale where she brought the whole damn circus, literally. Sing it, clowns.
12. Reputation Stadium Tour – …Ready For It?
The old Taylor was dead.
11. Speak Now World Tour – Enchanted
They nailed the costume and the scenery yet again. She sang it better here than on the studio recording.
10. Speak Now World Tour – Haunted
Excellent transition here, as the Enchanted forest turned dark blue and the giant bell appeared. Speaking of the bell, her smacking it (but not really) may be the most dramatic thing to happen in any Taylor Swift live performance. Her dress was even tattered at the bottom. I'm here for all of it.
9. 1989 World Tour – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
When Taylor became the rock goddess we always knew she was.
8. Speak Now World Tour – Back To December / Apologize
Beautiful presentation of this song. Full string orchestra here (I think?). Really leaned into the winter imagery with the light blue gown, white piano, and snowflakes falling in the background.
8. Reputation Stadium Tour – Don't Blame Me
She swore she doesn't love the drama, but this performance would suggest otherwise.
7. Reputation Stadium Tour – I Did Something Bad
A strong performance with lots of pyro, but it really elevated at the bridge, where the dancers lifted Taylor up and she leaned back into the pillar of fire on the screen. "Light me up," indeed.
6. Speak Now World Tour – Love Story
An improvement over the Fearless version in every respect. She swooped over the crowd on a floating balcony, while pairs of dancers in period dress spun on trapezes hanging from the ceiling.
5. Fearless Tour – Should've Said No
THE RAIN MACHINE! With the words in it! I think this spoke for itself. She literally killed it.
4. 1989 World Tour – How You Get the Girl
Another rain performance, but this time with neon umbrellas and a unique glow-in-the-dark bubblegum dress. She didn't need to do all this for such a deep cut, but she did. Underrated.
3. Reputation Stadium Tour – Look What You Made Me Do
The superior version of this song (addendum: until Eras, that is.) The black-and-gold snake robe, the "tilted stage," and of course Karyn the massive inflatable snake. Helped many people appreciate and understand what was once a very polarizing song, myself included.
2. Reputation Stadium Tour – Long Live / New Year's Day
A gorgeous piano mash-up that went right to the heart. In my opinion, Long Live belongs on every tour, and the line "hold on to spinning around" flowed perfectly into "hold onto the memories." Beyond that, this was the moment that freed her from the bad-girl big-reputation persona she had presented for most of the show. It was human and vulnerable. Just look at the joy on her face as she gazed out at the audience. We stan a queen.
1. Red Tour – I Knew You Were Trouble
Perhaps not as iconic as the circus number, but sure as hell should be. Started with the fiddle player going absolutely insane, on a sparkly red fiddle no less! Followed by Taylor and all the dancers acting out some sort of masquerade ball, eventually tearing off her poofy white gown to reveal a sexy black and gold romper. An electrifying dubstep Phantom of the Opera.

2023.06.01 03:42 Saruhiko_Misaki I didn't want to live until 18, now I don't wanna live past 21

When I was 15, I dreamt of making a grand gesture and ending my life in a high note. I planned on visiting Iceland and dying alone in the woods, or visiting Malta before I die. I would travel using my birthday as an excuse. I would never come back. I just didn't want to be anywhere near my home. The plan was disappearing as I turned 18.
A ton of things changed then. I switched schools, I stopped studying for close to a year. I moved to another country. My depression reached a new high after I realized I couldn't make friends as easily as I thought I could. I was spiraling. Then I met someone, but I was still in a deep hole. She was my light, but when I was honest to her, she needed to be frank with me. We were in love, but she said I needed a friend. I was barely 17 and already invested in my plans. If I was not sure before, after I told her about them, it felt certain.
New year rolled in. I made new friends, but I never felt like I fit in. I would make the bad decisions trying to find something to make me feel something. I was so numb. I bought chocolate at first. Then I asked my friend to buy vodka for me to mix with Monster. I would bring that shit to class. I would hang out with stoners so I could smoke some. I used to visit this abandoned industrial complex to think about how it would feel to fall from the top of the buildings there.
I met my now girlfriend. We actually knew each other from Facebook since we were 14. She disappeared but I never forgot. I searched for her again. We were pretty compatible. Pretty needy. She made me feel alive again. I made her feel good. I was never really that good to her. I think she doesn't know she could do better. It was a few months into our relationship when my 18th birthday rolled in. I was in love. I didn't want it to end, but I also didn't want to live. I never wanted to live.
I got into Uni, then I dropped out, then got a job, then got into another Uni, and dropped out again, I couldn't hold both. I am not good enough to hold a job and studies. I wanted the money, so I could spend on useless stuff that made me feel momentarily better. I could eat lots of shit in my job too. That's all I had. I had food, I had a small amount of money. But that was better than having no money at all and lots of shit to study. I bought weed from a coworker when I started my studies. Something that could make me relax when I felt like panicking. I did, in fact, panic. But that never made anything better. I didn't even use half before I gave it away. It was not worth it.
I started to apply more to my job. I would please my boss whenever they needed people to stay late or something. I started to work until closing. Every day was the same - except that it was not, every day was worse. I was spiraling again, so I got out. I started to go to the gym. I dropped and started to look for a new job while trying to get back into Uni. I stopped looking for a job. I started going to the gym with a friend. I started going sooner in the day. It was more peaceful alone.
Crazy thing is... I always had suicidal thoughts while working out. I hated living. I had no friends. I had friends but I was pretty much stranged. I didn't want to leave my house, but I still went to the gym pretty much every day. I never lost a kg. Then my childhood friend introduced me to his friend group. They were cool. I love them. We bought each other games for Christmas. I got Outer Wilds. They started to teach me how to play League. I started an original Vampire: The Masquerade story with them. But... I am never going to play again.
Next sunday is my birthday. And I will be recording a video saying goodbye. I will upload it to YT and schedule it to be released after my death. I will be taking all my mother's meds, including some strong sleep pills. I hope they are enough, honestly. I just don't wanna live anymore. I shouldn't even be alive now. I should have died much sooner. I shouldn't have made such precious memories with such wonderful people. But I just don't wanna stay alive. I can't bear it anymore.

2023.06.01 03:36 Wraithdagger12 #SVTFOEdailyChallenge Season 3a - New season, new evils, new mysteries

#SVTFOEdailyChallenge Season 3a - New season, new evils, new mysteries

Who are the real villains? Them?
Or Eclipsa?
Extremely overdue, but here are my thoughts/notes I took while rewatching the show the past few months! This is Season 3a, which I have arbitrarily cut off at episode 11, right before things started getting hot. Note that not all episodes have notes, because I didn't really have any new thoughts about them. Also included are bits of conversation I had with folks on the WTWC Discord.
I might make some more in-depth posts about some things if I feel like it. If you have any of your own thoughts, feel free to share them below. Anyway, enjoy!
Return to Mewni
  • Moon's confession to Star about not being a 'cool warrior queen' really shows who she really is (in that she sacrificed a lot for her family and kingdom)
Moon the Undaunted
  • Between going to war (best case - high casualties; pyrrhic victory) and signing a peace treaty (at a disadvantage), i think teenage Moon made the right decision, at least in the moment
    • What were Moon's major 'decisions' in her character arc? There's not killing Toffee so as to not free Eclipsa, and there's trying to walk the tightrope when it came to Mina vs. Eclipsa in the end
  • Glossaryck conveniently leads the Butterfly queen in a very particular direction
  • 300 year old vending machines that Eclipsa knew her combination to
  • I like how Eclipsa was unfazed that there was still a war going on, 300 years later
Marco and the King
  • Which monarch (or “acting” monarch) partied harder? River or Festivia?
Scent of a Hoodie
  • Pony came over after hearing about what happened in Butterfly Kingdom and after getting her hair done. So, it took weeks - months - to do her hair, which i actually think might be feasible for her
    • From Olin: It makes me think, other then Questbuy did they go to another dimension to do anything mundane like get your hair done? The closest I can think of it chilling at the Bounce Lounge.
      • Me: Star even took Marco to the Earth mall for that formal outfit
      • Most of the dimension hopping was either for fun in Season 1 or Star causing mayhem while under the influence of magic in Season 3
  • Pony mentioned ‘hoodies’ - how many hoodies did Star steal?
  • Random thought: Are tigerfish a thing?
Rest in Pudding
  • So Star ‘called for’ Glossaryck and he came back - makes me wonder under what circumstances he appeared to folks before
    • From Olin: Based on the Book of Spells I assume Glossy will always show himself to a wand wielder when called, as long as there is magic. I doubt he ever really dies.
Stranger Danger
  • Unicorn squirrels are a thing on Mewni, apparently
  • The whole things the MHC and Moon said about Eclipsa is so silly. From the start of this arc to the end, no one explained why being in love with a Monster is bad; why dark magic is so bad. I could go to bat for them and give some objective reasons (even if i disagree with them), but they never gave those reasons
  • Eclipsa's "I did what I had to do for me" re: dark magic is actually quite interesting: I think she wrote in the Book of Spells that she needed some of those spells to protect the kingdom if it came down to it. Also, heck, folks should look objectively at some of the stuff Solaria and Sky did. Crescenta, too, for that matter. Deep dive (heh) into everything each queen did and you'd find some sketchy stuff
  • "They said you could be in my mind and I wouldnt even know it" #foreshadowing
  • From Olin re: 'deep dive': Morality on Mewni is a lot different then it is in Echo Creek. Mewni - Skulls everywhere, put people with mental health issues into catapults, raising the dead is fine, but Eclipsa's chapter is evil. I know the writers did this for the story but it would be interesting to know how it got so different.
  • From Andrew re: 'from the start of this arc to the end': I always felt the answer they were going for was simple: they were just racists that refused to listen to reason and were willing to screw over the kingdom & half of Mewni’s population to vindicate themselves
    • My reply: That's the thing though because I feel like they had a reason, they just didn't make that reason. That, or they just got so caught up in the lies that they forgot what the truth - the reason - actually was
  • More random thoughts about the MHC:
    • I could argue that the MHC's self-serving nature makes them more neutral and not necessarily evil
    • Although i'd put them closer to the 'evil' end of the spectrum than the middle
    • To me the MHC mostly just wanted to maintain their standing and weren't overtly concerned with other people - they just kind of followed the winds in that regard
    • What i mean is that people have pointed out from the history we have from the books that there was some flip-flopping on whether to fight the Monsters or be at peace with them
    • Solaria, for comparison, definitely evil - she saw herself as a conqueror and was willing to commit genocide for the sake of it
    • On Reynaldo - or any of them, really - it's hard to say what their exact role was on things like the cover-up of Meteora
    • They were all in on it, and given that it's something they had to live with for hundreds of years, they kind of had to stick together
  • Random thought: I've always thought that Toffee's corruption was different than dark magic. Dark magic tended to be purple/black, Toffee's was more green/black. He put 'himself' into it. Now that i think about it, i wonder if Toffee used his Septarian regeneration on the Realm of Magic?
Demoncism
  • Seahorse had a demoncism - how did he need one to begin with?
  • Demon powers come from Demon spirits?
Sophomore Slump
  • Jackie throws left handed
Lint Catcher
  • So Marco drops back into Star's life and Star almost forgets that he was gone at all (in that she talked to him like she always did)
  • Similarly to the first episode, Star and Marco fight baddies together naturally
  • Moon and River basically told Star and Marco to go away and hang out while they figure things out (re: Marco being back on Mewni)
  • Star basically makes a royal decree for Marco to be her squire and be around her all the time, and even gives him a room in the castle - I wonder how Moon and River felt about that? 😛
    • 'Yeah mom, my best friend, who I totally don't have a crush on, is gonna be staying with us, also he's gonna stay up and watch me sleep some nights' 🤪
  • Thinking ahead to Starfari, in a way, Star seeing how Monsters were actually being treated on Mewni connects the story set up in Season 1/2 with the present
    • In S1, Star realized Monsters were being treated "unfair" and that history had been, let's say exaggerated to show Mewmans in a positive light
    • I'm not sure Star ever walked the streets of her own kingdom, let alone an outlying village - Mewman or Monster - and actually saw the reality of things
Trial by Squire
  • The 10,000th annual squire blowout...
    • The Butterfly dynasty has maybe lasted 1000 years at most
    • So Quest Buy was around a lot longer, ya?
  • Why did Star want a tree costume of all things so badly?
  • Marco's costume at the end reminds me a bit of Jushtin, maybe?
Princess Turdina
  • Marco was going to St. O’s to come clean to the princesses
  • Why were they going in a carriage?
  • There’s someone else who looks like Princess Jaggs?
  • Jorby is there
  • I think the big takeaway from the episode Princess Turdina is to be yourself
  • The other princesses still accepted, and were proud of Marco even after he admitted "I am a boy"
Starfari
  • In addition to the Forest of Certain Death there's the:
  • Lake of Endless Suffering; Dam of Constant Sorrow; Bridge of the Inevitable Hereafter - who comes up with these names?
    • Also why do they seem to be associated with off-limits areas/places where Monsters dwell?
Death Peck
  • So Star’s Petition of Friendship was actually genuine and everyone seemed on board with it, compared to Crescenta’s thing which was more, uh.. bad

2023.06.01 03:30 AliveDevelopment336 Does this make sense plot wise?

Im currently working on a comic series that takes place in a medieval-like time period with the characters being anthropomorphic animals.
One of the villains in this story is an abnormally large unicorn mare (in my fantasy universe, unicorns usually grow to be about half the size of a horse) and this villain runs a group of assassins (not sure yet how they originated, but my current idea is that they were originally members of a kingdom that has long since fallen and are trying to retain what little of their bloodline they have left)
One of the people working for her is a young dragon about 20 years old (they age like humans do). Now, this dragon has the ability to dig tunnels, much like a rabbit would be able to and this allows the group to hide in these tunnels and pop out when people least expect it (that’s how they attack their enemies)
This dragon has been secretly digging escape tunnels for the innocent people from the towns that this group attacks. And the leader recently found out about this and threatens to cave in these tunnels and effectively kill the survivors that the dragon has been trying to help escape.
She makes her an offer (she’s famous amongst her peers for these “deals”). If this dragon can capture whoever’s been stealing from their food supply, then she won’t cave in the tunnels that she has made for the survivors.
Does this deal make sense…? Because it came across me that maybe it wouldn’t make sense if the deal to not kill innocent people if this individual captured a thief. So, it’s save one person or save ten people kind of thing going on.
Idk, does that like, make sense?

2023.06.01 03:24 TogetherPlantyAndMe Pregnant before marriage

Welp, it happened. We danced and now we have to pay the fiddler. This is going to be a long post— part explanation that I think I want to write out for my own sake, part plea for sympathy for how hard this is, and part… who knows.
We’ve been together for 8 years. We had a long talk about engagement one night in autumn 2019 and he gave me a music box of a little bride and groom. That same night I got incredibly sick and ended up hospitalized, then in a rehab program, having to leave my job and house and move back in with my parents. We put the wedding on pause until things got more normal. I was healthy, feeling normal, processing the losses I’d had, and started job hunting again in February 2020.
March 2020 was not normal. We were scared shitless for 6 months, like everyone was. Once things calmed down a small amount, we talked about eloping. Nope, we decided. We wanted a wedding-wedding. Plus, his mom didn’t think he was ready, and her disapproval really affected him. Marriage is a good thing, a celebration. Let’s wait until we can make it a celebration.
And around that time, too, we started making love. I know, I know. We shouldn’t have. We’d been together for 6 years by then. College, mental illness flare-ups, a disaster internship for me, his mom’s cancer, my sickness, a parent divorce, losing grandparents, his mother’s disapproval of him dating anyone at all, sexual harassment, the pandemic. The world was scary. Being together was safe.
We’d talked about sex at the start of our relationship and decided no, we would wait. Occasionally it got brought up again and we knew we weren’t ready to be parents, so we said no, we’ll wait. We had a conversation at one point where he said he felt ready. I asked him what would happen if we got pregnant. He said we’d live our lives in love like we had always planned. We weren’t in bed, we weren’t all riled up. We were our normal and rational selves. I had trusted my mind and my soul with him for years. It made sense that I trusted my body with him, too. I regret some things, I really do. But I can’t regret trusting him, and I can’t regret him trusting me.
So, early 2023. We’re both in good places professionally and health-wise. He says he’s struggling to pick out a ring that is like, we decide to go ring shopping together. It was such a happy day. We decided on a custom one and picked out elements to combine, so it was still going to be a nice surprise.
My period had been late. I had been working 60, 65 hour weeks in November and December and I had had a nasty respiratory bug in December. I’d been having cramps and spotting for a couple days and was like “Yep! This is my period!” But it still didn’t come. I took a test when we went back to my place after looking at rings. I didn’t even tell him. He was watching TikTok in my living room when I walked out and said “Hey, my period is still being weird, so I figured…” Then I saw the result.
We were numb for a while. I called a friend who’d just had a baby, who is a good Catholic who did everything correctly. She was kind and loving told me congrats. I was in complete shock. It didn’t seem real at all. We would do maybe 10-30 minutes of practical discussion, then I’d sob hysterically for about 10-30 minutes, then I’d calm down, then start again.
He was really strong at first. A bit quiet, just taking care of me. Eventually it all hit him. It’s one of the worst things I can remember seeing. He was in so much pain. He and his mom had never talked openly about relationships and sex. She disapproved of me. She would tell him “Don’t ruin your life tonight,” whenever he would spend time with me.
I’ll admit we talked about termination. We’d never considered it, of course we hadn’t. I was also scared that I had hurt Baby— we didn’t know how far along I was, I was on two medications that weren’t recommended for pregnancy, I’d taken copious amounts of OTC cold and fever reliever, and I had binge drank a few times in the month before. Going back to my last period, it was possible I was 9 weeks along at that point with no symptoms except cramps and spotting.
It’s really easy to say “You got pregnant, you pay the consequences. Move in, get married, buy the diapers.” Everything is so much easier said than done. I had to find a sublease for my apartment. We both had to move. We had to find an OB. Our work schedules are different and had no days off in common after my Christmas break— one of us would have to miss work to go to any appointments. And that’s without all the pain of pregnancy, delivery, and a newborn.
We had to think about my job— I’m a teacher and I have been working with a group of students for two years. I was supposed to be able to work with them a third year. I PUSHED at work to be able to be keep working with them. I got additional certifications, I balanced rigor with fun to keep kids engaged, I reached out to parents and families constantly, and I told the kids that I’d be there next year, and yes, they had to sign up for my classes. I told 120 children that I would be there for them as they kept going in high school.
We had always planned on my staying home with a baby when we got there. I’m a teacher and I’ve worked with younger kids. Childcare is crazy expensive. What’s the point of paying someone to get yelled at by my kid while I commute to get… yelled at by kids? I’ve also had mental health issues and knew for a long time that leaving my baby too early wasn’t going to work for me. Having a baby meant leaving my job and leaving the kids I’d built painstaking relationships with.
So, right after finding out, it was pretty much agony. (At one point the night after taking the test, we did play a board game together.)
The first appointment was terrifying. I cried. The OB was very nice. He held my hand the whole time. I also felt so stupid. When was my last period? Early November. What birth control were you using? None. How did it take me 9 weeks to consider being pregnant? And if being pregnant was so horrible, why had we had sex? The first ultrasounds they do are transvaginal. They put a big stick up your vagina. Not fun.
I cried when we saw the embryo. Good and bad cried. Good because it’s an absolute miracle. Bad because we weren’t ready for this miracle. I have always wanted kids. Always. Always always. But in those moments… I had been hoping something bad had happened and we could wrap this all up. But we couldn’t. There was a 6 week embryo, healthy as could be. We heard the heartbeat.
Outside on the street after the appointment, we were numb.
We stopped walking and looked at each other and we both smiled, maybe for the first time that we smiled about this. He touched my face. “We’re going to be parents,” he said. We kissed. He touched my belly. We were going to be okay.
I’m very lucky. I’m in my late 20s. I’m well-educated and have a job in my field. I’ve worked with children and babies. I am in a relationship with the father, a healthy relationship. I’ve been in therapy on and off for years and have a good handle on recognizing my needs and emotions. I have supportive family and I have family who can buy baby supplies or help with rent or expenses if worst comes to worst. I have friends in my city, I have friends who have children, and friends who are teachers and nurses. I have my sister’s codependent best friend, who is NOT ready to have kids and has no experience with them, and signed herself up for Grandparent/ caregiver classes when she found out.
And still. It’s been so hard. Moving is exhausting. Just cleaning my apartment to get the pictures to advertise the sublease was too much! I had to go off one medication and fatigue was a side effect of quitting it cold turkey—I slept 18-20 hours a day for a week and a half. Eventually nausea and vomiting hit and I had to navigate that, medication for it, and side effects. And I pee myself every time I throw up.
I’ve missed so much work— I’d be fired if I wasn’t already leaving. My students are happy for me (and LOVE asking me about baby names and clothes and stuff) but I’ve had kids look me dead in the eye and say, “You can’t leave us. I can’t be at this school without your class and your room during lunch.” My fiancé’s mom is extremely disappointed— she hasn’t said the words “pregnancy,” or “baby,” and she hasn’t asked about me when they talk. My fiancé has two leather chairs that are family heirlooms, and my cat clawed at them the day after he moved in.
We need to be married to be on the insurance, so we had to ask the church if we could be married despite my evidence of sin, or if we should get married at the courthouse. We had a lot of special touches planned for our wedding, and I have a lot of emotions about having to do a small wedding instead.
I think I’m writing all this to ask for sympathy, for me and for others. Please see the paragraph about ways I’m extremely lucky. I just keep thinking about women and girls in this situation who don’t have what I have— a stable relationship, a job, supportive parents, friends who can give used baby gear and step up to help.
It’s not easy. I’m going to be just fine, and this is just going to be a blip in the story of our family. Just please believe me that it’s not easy. Please reach out to your pregnant and parenting friends and family and offer help. If you can, please support programs for young moms and victims of abuse. For Americans, please support paid parental leave at your own jobs and on a bigger scale. Please be kind and giving.
Thank you for reading.

2023.06.01 03:08 Worried-Intention101 Sometimes you have to be a Karen

Not sure where to tell this story but this just happened today while at theaters to see the Little Mermaid.
It was a busy hour when me and my mom arrived there. Mostly with little children’s holding blankets in their arms. They all seem excited to see the exact movie we are about to see and ooohing at the display poster of the Little Mermaid around the walls. Ahead of us was the display case of three employees taking orders and printing out tickets of costumer in pairs. They seem really busy, for the line was very long and was getting longer behind us as we wait and slowly move to the front. We were in line for almost about thirty minutes, but I was not worry for I know we be in to see the movie before the trailers start. My mom on the other hand, was being a little bit impatient.
I can tell you this, my mom can be a bit…. much. She like structure and not take to kindly to lackness from employee’s, which would always make her come out as a Karen or mark as one. Even her haircut and loud personality she presents herself make any employee just look at her with an “oh no…. It’s happening….” But my mom is not a bad person. She just don’t take bull shit but there is times she needs to dial her attitude down cause I fear they will spit in our food or something.
I try my best to keep my mom occupied as we slowly approach the counter when something catch her eyes. There was a young man standing at the side of the counter holding an empty popcorn bucket. I didn’t notice him until my mom tapped me on the shoulder to point him out mumbling, “He’s been standing there and no one is attending!”
As she said that, an employee just walk passed the young man and he was able to grab her attention by asking for more popcorn (please) but the employee told him, “One moment, I’ll get you in a bit,” before heading back to the register and taking another costumer.
Oh uh….. came to though when I turn to my mom and I can see she is not happy and she tells me, “Hold my spot,” as she went under the rope to head where the young man stood. Going, “Excuse me? EXCUUUUUUUUUSE ME!” Loud and clear.
All heads turn at her and that young man and me look like deer in headlights where we stood.
My mom keep going, “This young man been standing here for a refill and you all are going to make him miss most his movie by waiting to long!”
“I’m sorry ma’am,” the employee earlier replied, “we will get to him in a bit.”
“Oh no!” My mom fired back, “You told him you will attend to him but end up taking someone’s order. He been standing here more than ten minutes and he is missing his movie he payed for!”
Without another word, another employee took the young mans buck and quickly fill it up for him.
My mom felt her mission was complete and head back in line with me, who is embarrassed and wish she didn’t make a seen but the people around us was patting her on the back.
Maybe she did something good but still feel embarrassed for the employees.

Title! It can be anything from a single character with a borrowed name, to a suspiciously familiar side-plot, to entire cities or countries designed to mimic your favorite story’s setting. And it doesn’t have to be a famous tale you’ve referenced. Nostalgic bedtime stories, hidden gems at the back of the library, obscure myths from centuries past, or even vaguely remembered fan fiction from post-midnight internet rabbit holes.

2023.06.01 02:34 VecroLP My teacher almost had me arrested!

This happened a couple years ago when i was in school for software engineering. One of my teachers (the kevina of this story) accidentally left a USB stick in the classroom after our last lesson of the day, we didn't notice untill an hour later because we were still playing games after class. When we left we noticed it and decided to check whose it was. We plugged it into one of the school computers (not gonna risk our own laptops with a random USB drive) and noticed that it was hers, it was completely full grade sheets, old exams and the answer keys. We unplugged it and tried to find her to give it back but she had already gone home. The next day we found her and handed the drive back to her. A couple days later on Christmas eve everyone involved received the following email:
Dear [Director of our university],
I would like to let you know that my computer was hacked by the following students: [all our names] by the means of stealing my USB drive and filling it with maleware. Not only are they immediately suspended from my lessons. I would also like to know why I would not contact the police and have them arrested for cybercrimes.
Kind regards,
Kevina
So naturally everyone is freaking out and that night I get no sleep because I don't know if it is Santa who's coming down the chimney or a fucking FBI SWAT team there to arrest me. Eventually Christmas break is over without us hearing anything else and we go back to school, the director contacts us and sets up a meeting between everyone involved so we can talk it out. When we go to the meeting we find that apparently the computer is now fine and she will allow us back in her class. We still had questions like what happened, but those were ignored. It wasn't so much a meeting as just an announcement.
Later we found out that one of the other teachers took a look at the "hacked" computer and the USB drive and found nothing out of the ordinary. So he asked her what exactly happened to make her think we hacked her PC. She told him that she plugged in the USB drive and turned on her computer, but instead of windows it showed a blue screen with white text that read "your files have not been touched". That apparently scared her into turning off her PC and sending that email from her phone. The other teacher thought for a minute and then quickly googled something before showing her a picture. "Did it look like this?", "Yes! That's exactly it! What virus did they infect my computer with?". It turns out that what she saw was part of a windows update screen...
so yeah, TL;DR I almost got arrested because my teacher recieved a windows update.

2023.06.01 02:28 Ninjawombat111 Let's talk about tactical ballistic missiles.

So, I've seen a lot of posts on this reddit about this topic. The way it usually goes is some precocious gamer comes in asks for the shiny missiles and is promptly shut down being told that they are a strategic not a tactical asset. So, what does that mean and how were the tactical missile units in the combat zone of warno organized?
So, first things first were they considered strategic assets? This line is fuzzy so the answer is kinda yes kinda no. A short-range ballistic missile can be used against both tactical targets like troop concentrations, anti-aircraft sites and defensive hardpoints as well as strategic targets like airfields, ammo dumps and enemy logistics. This was by design with different missile types such as cluster and high explosive being intended for different target types.
For a more indepth look at their intended role let's take a look at how they were organized in Germany at the end of the cold war. The Soviet side has the 11th missile brigade part of the 8th guard Combined Arms Army, the same formation as the 79th and 39th guards and based in the same town as the 79th guards. This missile unit would undoubtably be involved in an attack on Germany, but according to Soviet doctrine it would be under the command of the Army leader not attached to a division as a supporting asset. This puts it in the realm of can be reasonably excluded from divisional assets, though I think it would be fun to replace the burratino in the 79th guards with a scud since they were stationed at the same place.
With the Americans things become more complicated, particularly with the story of WARNO as it is. The 32nd field artillery armed with Lance missiles, they got ATAMCS in 1990 but whatever, was paired in exercises with two divisions currently in WARNO the 3rd Armored Division and terattorial kommando sud. Operating as a normal field artillery regiment this unit wouldn't have the same Army group commander reserved status. Of these two I think them being added to terattorial kommando sud makes a fair amount of narrative and doctrine sense, with a rapid Soviet advance these units would become caught up acting as supporting artillery to hard pressed German reserve units. The British also stationed tactical missile units in Germany, but I don't want to dig up information on that.
Missiles of this sort would undoubtably be involved in a cold war gone hot of this type, both sides had them stationed in Germany, and both sides had doctrines that either allowed for, or in Americas case were focused on, battlefield support as a viable use. I think they should add the missiles.
I can provide sources, if necessary, I've gone down a rabbit hole of reading defense stuff.

2023.06.01 02:26 Beduzzy New to floaters and I'm just spiraling down.

Hello all. 32M here.
I noticed this grey speck just last week when I looked into a clear sky. After much lurking in the Internet, I realize that it was your classic floaters.
They become more apparent when I look at a blank wall or sky. I realize that I have more in my vision. Most of the time they do not get in the way. As i type this message, I don't see any of it.
It's just that there are times I find myself hyperaware and deliberately look for them. And when they do waft in my vision, I get so frustrated, pissed, and angry.
Every day since, I am afraid of getting more floaters in the coming months. I hear that some just resolve by themselves or we just adapt to them. But I am not counting on it too much.
I do have some health anxiety. I was about to book an appointment with the ophthalmologist, but I chickened out last minute because, guess what, I was afraid of the worst news.
I know floaters are essentially harmless and can be just a nuisance. But my biggest fear is glaucoma as my late grandmother and late uncle had it. Now I am just thinking that I am doomed to have it no matter what.
I know that a normal person would just think "Oh, I'll just get my health checked at the doctors so if they find anything, we can treat it early and move on."
But as someone who is anxious and who is new to this, my brain is wired to think "If I go to the doctors now they will be the one to deliver the bad news to me. That my eye pressure is eye and that I will be blind in a few years. And that I will be doomed to have this and will think about it every day for the rest of my life."
Last night was the worst. I live alone and so after coming home from work, I just stayed in bed and just went down the rabbit hole of reading all the negative things in this sub, trying to find any ounce of success story, reading articles, watching videos, etc on floaters..
I am just upset that I will never be able to enjoy landscapes when I travel. Or the beach. Or the clear sky. As someone who has an interest in photography, I am in this nightmare.
I just booked another appointment with the ophthalmologist this weekend. I am on the verge of cancelling it again because I have a 2-week vacation on the 3rd week of June. And I feel that the bad news I will receive will just ruin everything.
Oh, dear. Help me. I just need to bite the bullet once and for all.
