2023.05.30 07:01 thelaughingfrog [AUS] New gaming PC, 1440p 165hz, Budget: $3000AUD
**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
Primary use is gaming, mostly World of Warcraft and Destiny 2, with occasional other AAA titles like RDR2, Witcher or Control. Don't need to run everything at Ultra, but consistent High settings at high framerates is my goal (raytracing is a nice to have but definitely not required).
**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
~$3000AUD
**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
Within the next month.
**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**
Case and all components excluding HDD. No peripherals needed.
**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
Australia
**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
Re-using some old SSDs, current OS drive is a Samsung 970 Evo. Monitors are Samsung SA850T and a Gigabyte M32QC, mouse is Razer Basilisk V3, and keyboard is a Ducky One TKL.
**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
Not overly interested in OCing, and not planning to upgrade the platform for a while (my current setup lasted ~7 years), so I'm happy with either AM4 or 13th gen intel.
**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
I would like to keep general gaming power draw and sound as low as possible, so may influence GPU and cooler choice (air cooling is my preferred option).
**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
Love the aesthetic of the Fractal North, but my PC will sit under my desk so open to other mid-tower cases.
**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**
No Windows required.
**Extra info or particulars:**
Current selction I'm playing around with is
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/skQRZw, however seeing the 7900XTX is going down in price I am open to stretching the budget a bit for something a bit more powerful.
Edit: apologies for formatting, I may have broken something and do not use reddit enough to figure out how to fix quoting stuff (:

2023.05.30 06:47 Spiked_Frapp Motherhood is kicking my ass
I came from a very a functional yet also dysfunctional household. Since I can remember I didn't want kids because growing up it was just all a well fabricated facade and I know what's behind the curtain. My parents who everyone thought was happy is a couple who can't communicate or establish boundaries. My Dad would randomly burst out into a fit of rage and everybody has to walk on egg shells, my mom treated me like her personal therapist and my younger brother was the golden child and I was the responsible child who catered to her parent's whims. I didn't want my own family if that is a family.
Fast forward to now I am 24 with an almost 1 year old. I have cut ties with my toxic parents and have gone to therapy for a laundry list of childhood trauma and issues for 3 years prior to birthing my child. I didn't realize how triggering mother hood is for me. I thought therapy was suppose to fix everything or at least help me come to terms with things only to find out that grieving a mother you never had can be a life long thing especially with your own child. I am so attached to my daughter. My fiance says its too much but I am so afraid for my daughter to walk the same path I have. Yet despite loving her with every fiber of me the constant need for love, touch and assurance is triggering me. I am finding it so hard to not use the same parenting techniques my parents used with me. I am constantly having to tell myself about developmental changes and how this is all going to be over soon or atleast easier yet everyone is telling me its about to get harder. How? When I feel like everyday is agony and joy just taking turns driving. I feel like crap for not being mentally present all the time yet feel like I am and I need space from everyone. I want to run away from everyone yet be there for my fiance for when life is beating him up at work or just feeling down. I want to be there for every moment my daughter looks up from playing to look at me for reassurance. All of these is triggering because I never had the experience of a model of a mother. I was my own mother because my own mom was busy dotting over my brother or busy calming my dad down from whatever was making him angry or busy with other people and their issues but not me because I am the oldest I have to go fend for myself. I feel so alone although my fiance is doing his very best to relieve some of the pressures whether it be taking my daughter for a few hours away so I can get a breather or offeri g to out her down for naps even though she just fights him till I give in and do it myself. Some days I kick myself for having my daughter thinking I could break the wheel and some days I want 10 more kids to cuddle with in bed and play silly games with all afternoon.
Motherhood is kicking my ass but I would still choose it again. Thank you if you have made it this far.

2023.05.30 06:34 MonstersOnTheHill I am late 30s, live outside NYC, and have a HHI of $400k+. I work full time, have two kids, and am a grad student
I'm a day late posting this -- I'm sorry to have gotten off schedule! I realize there have been a lot of high-earner diaries recently, but I hope my perspective is still of interest.
Section One: Assets and Debt
Retirement Balance: $460K (mine) and $250K (husband’s). We both max out our annual withholdings. I’ve been working longer than him, and my employer offers a more generous match, which contributed significantly to my balance.
Equity: $275K. Our home is currently worth about $450K. We live in a M-HCOL area (far) outside of NYC, and our home was a fixer upper when we bought it. Honestly, it’s still a fixer, and we are saving towards a major renovation.
Cars: Maybe $15-$20k total…we drive two paid off cars. One is 13 years old, and the other is 10 years old.
Other Cash and Investments: $150K
Credit card debt: None, paid every month
Student loan debt (for what degree): $80K towards the grad degree I’m pursuing now. Since we’re saving towards the home reno, I’m financing my degree rather than paying for it outright. I know this is counterintuitive given the interest rate environment. However, the home reno has been a priority for us since we bought this home.
Daughters’ 529s: $75K
Total Net Worth: $1.145M
Section Two: Income
Income Progression: I've been working in my field for 13 years and my starting salary was $40,000.
I work as a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis in a niche field. I won’t go into too many details because it’s a small world. My salary progression was as follows:
Year 1: $40,000 starting, right after recession. I had an amazing boss who mentored me and recognized my potential. After six months, I received a promotion and raise to $60,000.
Year 3: Promotion and raise to $90,000, for a role with more financial and analytical responsibility. Although I worked hard, I continued to benefit from having a boss who advocated for me. I consider this a major turning point.
Year 8: Raise to $120,000 for additional responsibilities after a coworker retired.
Year 10: Raise to $135,000
I’ve received an average of 2.5% COLA increases and now earn $145K. My boss has requested a $10,000 bonus for me this year, which I haven’t yet included because it’s still under review.
My husband earns $260,000 base salary as a VP of a large corporation (this is a very recent raise…he was at $200K previously). In addition, he can receive a performance-based bonus of 20-30%. We don’t include his bonuses in our financial planning because they are not guaranteed and because a portion is RSUs. When he receives a cash bonus, we put it towards our daughter’s college accounts and/or our home reno fund.
Education: I have a bachelors and a masters in a field unrelated to my career. My tuition was paid by scholarships/assistantships. In addition, my parents covered my living expenses during undergrad. During my first graduate degree, I worked 3 part-time jobs to cover my non-tuition expenses. I’m now enrolled in a grad program more directly related to my career. My employer encouraged me to do this program and generously allows me the time out of office. In addition, if I stay for a certain number of years, they will reimburse a portion of my tuition.
Main Job Monthly Take Home:
Monthly take home: $6,300 after taxes, retirement ($1,875) and medical/dental benefits ($110– self only)
Husband’s monthly take home: $12,560 after taxes, retirement ($1,875), and medical/dental ($400 for him and our two kids)
Section Three: Expenses
Mortgage: $2,485 for principal, interest, insurance, and taxes. We refinanced to a 15-year loan at 2.3% when rates were low
Daycare: $3,510 per month (full-time for a toddler and preschooler)
Savings contribution: $3,000-$5,000
Daughters’ 529 accounts: $2,000 ($1,000 each)
Debt payments: $700 towards my student loans. This will increase once I’m done with my degree
Donations: $3,000 annually
Transit $350-400 for husband’s commute (3x/week to NYC)
Electric: $60
Wifi/Cable/Landline: $120
Cellphone: $180
Subscriptions: $59 for Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Duolingo, Apple Storage, and credit monitoring
Gym membership: $149 for Pure Barre
Husband’s physical therapy: $130 (portion not covered by insurance)
Car insurance: $3,200 annually. (This seems high, considering we have good records, don’t drive much, and both cars are paid off. I need to look into this)
Life Insurance: $3,100 annually
Day 1 (Saturday):
6:00 AM: Wake up. I’m doing a modular course for my graduate degree, and the class wraps up today. I study for the exam that happens this afternoon. A little after 7, I walk to a nearby coffee shop and buy a large Americano for $4.50 including tip. When I’m back at the hotel, I pack up my room and leave a $20 tip for housekeeping. On the way out, I drop my bags at the bell stand. The hotel cost is covered by tuition.
9:00: Meet with my study team to finalize a paper and presentation that’s due today. At noon, we break for lunch (also covered by tuition). I have a salad and lots of carbonated caffeine. After lunch, we have an hour-long final exam.
2:00: Final course wrap up. It’s been an intense week-long session. I learned a lot, but am so ready to head home. I walk back to the hotel to retrieve my bags. Along the way, I stop to buy an empanada ($8 including tip). Then I call an Uber to the airport ($55 including tip). While in the Uber, I talk to my husband and daughters, who are 1.5 and almost 4. Due to the time difference, it’s their bedtime and if I don’t catch them now, I’ll lose my chance. I promise them that I’ll be home when they wake up in the morning. A lot of my classmates went to dinner together before heading to the airport. On the one hand, I have FOMO because my classmates are awesome. But on the other hand, it was really important to me to talk to my family, and I know I couldn’t have done that easily in a bustling restaurant (I’ve tried, and it was a frustrating experience for everyone!).
6:00: Arrive at the airport. I check my bag ($35). Once I’m through security, I pick up some souvenirs. My hotel wasn’t in an area with good shopping options, and the class days were pretty packed anyway. I get locally made chocolate for my husband. The girls get a small stuffed animal each, and a book to share ($70 total). Then I treat myself to crab cakes and a French 75 to celebrate the end of the week ($60 including tip).
10:00: On the flight, I read until the cabin lights go out and then try to sleep. I used to be able to sleep better on red eyes, but I wake up every 15 minutes.
Day 1 Total: $252.50
Day 2 (Sunday):
6:00: Flight lands and I gather my bags and take the parking shuttle. Although I parked in an economy lot, the total was still $174. Ugh – this has been an expensive week.
7:45: Arrive home. The girls crawled into our bed and are snuggled up next to my husband. The toddler wakes up as I come into the room and the look on her face when she sees me is priceless. Our preschooler wakes up soon after. It’s so good to be reunited with my people! We all head downstairs and have breakfast (waffles and cereal, plus a huge pot of coffee). It’s cold and rainy today and we spend the morning watching TV together.
10:00: Our toddler falls asleep for her nap, and my husband encourages me to do the same. Our preschooler is happily entertaining herself with Legos and puzzles, so I doze for a couple hours. Around 1:00, we all have turkey sandwiches for lunch. Then, I take over kid duty so my husband can finally have some time to himself. He spends the afternoon woodworking in his basement workshop.
2:00: Our preschooler’s birthday is coming up. I buy digital invites from Etsy ($12) and send them to Staples to print ($16 with a promo). They are ready in about two hours and we pick them up. My preschooler asks for kinetic sand at Staples and I cave in and buy it for her ($11). I constantly complain about the amount of “stuff” in our house, but to be honest, I’m guilty of contributing to the clutter. When we get home, I spend the afternoon doing crafts with the girls.
5:15: We heat up some leftovers that my in-laws dropped off while I was gone. We do the girls’ bedtime routine a little early since everyone seems tired. Lights out by 8:00 for the girls. Then I catch up on work email and start making a list for the week. For the purposes of this money diary, my husband mentions that he spent $270 yesterday restocking groceries. Then I watch Succession and head to bed
Day 2 Total: $387
Day 3 (Monday):
5:08: My alarm goes off because I typically go to Pure Barre on Monday morning. I’m still jetlagged so I decide not to go today. I hadn’t actually signed up for a class because I had a feeling this would happen.
6:30: Everyone else is still asleep, so I go downstairs to make coffee and enjoy a few quiet moments to myself. When my husband and kids wake up, we all have breakfast (frozen waffles and berries for the kids. English muffins for the adults).
8:30: Drop the kids off at daycare and then get to work. I work primarily from home, so I just have to walk upstairs to my office nook. I spend the morning prepping for an important meeting tomorrow with senior leadership. I get a reminder on our phone that our toddler has a well-child visit today…usually I sync my calendars, but I totally neglected to log this on my work calendar, and it conflicts with a meeting with our chief of staff. CRAP. I debate canceling the doctor’s appointment, but decide to keep it. Our toddler is getting vaccines today and if I don’t keep the appointment, I’m not sure when I can reschedule. I apologize profusely to our COS and ask if we can reschedule. She says not to worry, and that she appreciates the extra time in her schedule…hopefully I didn’t make a bad judgment call.
1:15: I quickly eat a turkey sandwich for lunch and then pick up our toddler from daycare for her appointment. These well visits usually take 30 minutes and are covered by insurance. As luck would have it, we spend 90 minutes waiting because they are running behind. Luckily, I have snacks and activities in my purse to occupy her. To pass the time, I browse for favors and paper goods for our older daughter’s upcoming party. I end up buying paper goods, decor, and favors ($67 from Target) and iced sugar cookies ($240 from Etsy). As I type this, I realize how bananas it is to spend that much on decorated sugar cookies. Our incomes have increased pretty dramatically in the past few years, and although we haven’t increased our fixed expenses, we’ve definitely succumbed to lifestyle inflation for one-off things like this. It’s something I need to be aware of. I’m finally home around 3:30, just in time for my next call. My husband is WFH today and takes over kid duty during this call.
5:15: It’s time to pick up our older daughter from preschool, but my call is running long so my husband picks her up. For dinner, we make salads topped with roast chicken. The toddler loves salad, but our preschooler proclaims “I don’t like green leaves – I’m not a caterpillar!”. Well, okay then.
8:30: We do the girls’ bedtime routine, and then I continue prepping for tomorrow’s meeting. I wrap up around 1:00 am. While I’m working, husband preps two meals that just need to be reheated sometime later in the week. Good night!
Day 3 Total: $307
Day 4 (Tuesday):
7:30: Kids and I sleep in a bit this morning. My husband left home around 5:45 since he’s going into the office, so the three of us are on our own. For breakfast, the toddler has toast and berries. The preschooler has bran cereal and a frozen waffle. I eat their scraps, washed down with coffee.
9:15: I drop the kids off at daycare a little late this morning. Then I get working and practice the presentation I’m giving at 11:00
12:05: Call is over and I think it went as well as could be expected. I make myself a turkey sandwich for lunch. Then I go to the post office to mail a birth certificate request for our youngest daughter’s passport application. The cost for the birth certificate is $50. I also spend $15 at the post office to mail the envelope and buy stamps. Then it’s back to work.
5:10: Pick the girls up from school. My husband gets home around 6:45. Dinner tonight is a tofu and broccoli stir fry with rice. I don’t cook much, but I make this meal weekly and it’s everyone’s favorite. The secret is using soy sauce that is seasoned for seafood. It has a much deeper, richer flavor than standard soy sauce.
7:30: Bathtime and bed for the girls. I text with a mom from daycare whose kids are the same age as ours. We arrange a playdate for an upcoming weekend. I’m hopeful that she and I will develop a friendship – making friends is hard when you’re an adult!
9:10: I debate doing schoolwork or “work work.” Schoolwork wins tonight…I spend about two hours prepping a case study.
Day 4 Total: $65
Day 5 (Wednesday):
5:30: Wake up and start working. I still have a lot of deliverables to catch up on. Husband leaves as usual to commute into the city.
7:00: I get an email and text message that daycare had to close today due to unforeseen circumstances. There was an issue with their plumbing that impacts the whole building. Oh no – I immediately feel a pit in my stomach. I really can’t afford this today, especially because I am out this Friday for another day of class. Although our preschooler is pretty independent, our toddler needs constant supervision. She’s always a moment away from jumping off a couch, climbing on a table, or otherwise causing herself bodily harm. My husband has multiple meetings with his division president today so he can’t realistically come home to help. Argh. I feed us all breakfast and prepare myself for a difficult day. I send my boss an email to let him know the situation, but promise to stay on top of my work after hours as needed. I also log a half day of PTO in the payroll system…I figure I can probably be about 50% productive today.
10:00: Our toddler falls asleep for a nap, so I frantically send out emails and run reports. Our preschooler watches shows on her tablet.
12:15: Toddler is up from her nap. Our poor preschooler has been on her tablet for too long and her eyes are glazed over. I decide to take the girls out for lunch to break up the day. We go to Jersey Mikes since it’s nearby and fast. The girls each have a kids meal and the toddler is delighted that it includes a kids cup. I have an Italian sub ($29). We eat outside and the preschooler hums and loudly proclaims "I love Jersey Mike's!"
1:30: We get back home and I jump on an internal call. Thankfully the girls are well behaved and don’t cause any disruptions, beyond waving hello at the start of the call.
3:00 I have another call and the girls are again on their best behavior. PTL. Maybe I’m just lucky, or maybe it’s that I bribed them with cookies.
4:45: I wrap up the workday a little early. I take the girls on a walk since the weather is nice. When we get back inside, they immediately melt down. The toddler wants to be held constantly, which is a challenge because she weighs 24 pounds. The preschooler is thrashing, spitting at me, and throwing toys. I resist a really strong urge to scream or cry or break something or hide in the bathroom – maybe all at once. Instead, I heat up one of the meals my husband made earlier this week. When our preschooler calms down, she asks if I still love her when she’s bad. She’s been asking this question a lot recently, and it makes me wonder if it’s just a phase, or if she needs more reassurance from us. Either way, it's heartbreaking to know she worries about this.
7:30: Husband had a late meeting, so he gets home later than normal. We do the girls bedtime and bathtime routines. We get another note from daycare saying that the plumbing issue is, unfortunately, still unresolved. We’ll get a tuition credit, but they will be closed another day. Husband and I talk through logistics. We agree that he’ll go into the city again tomorrow and I’ll handle the kids. His company is in the middle of a major reorg and it’s important for him to be there in person. We decide to ask his parents if they are available to help tomorrow. Between work, the kids, and my grad program, sometimes I feel like the only thing we talk about is logistics. It’s been at least 6 months since we’ve been on a date.
10:00: I catch up on work, and also prep for school this coming weekend. I go to bed a little after 1:00.
Day 5 Total: $29
Day 6 (Thursday):
5:45: Husband is up and out of the house at his normal time. I wake up and run some financial reports while I have the chance.
7:30: Kids are awake. While they eat breakfast I pack their activity bags and snacks since we’re going to my in-laws today. They are semi-retired and often help when we have childcare hiccups. They are truly a godsend. They live about an hour away and we arrive at their house a little after 10:00. On the way, I fill my car up with gas ($52).
12:30: The girls are having a blast with my in-laws. We take a break for lunch, which is chicken nuggets and hummus for the girls. I eat their scraps and also have some Greek yogurt.
4:15: I have a full afternoon of calls, but it goes smoothly thanks to the grandparents. We leave a few minutes after 5:00 and both girls fall asleep before we reach the first traffic light. This makes for a peaceful drive home. Traffic is heavy so we get home around 6:30. I open the mail, and find a surprise medical bill for $572. This is for the toddler’s trip to the ER…14 months ago! This is the first bill we are getting and honestly it had completely slipped my mind. She had a triple infection and ended up severely dehydrated. Seeing this bill dredges up all sorts of unpleasant memories. I’m grateful we have the means to pay this without issue, and I’m grateful she is healthy. I understand it's a privilege to pay a bill like this without thinking twice.
6:45: Husband arrives home. We reheat a pasta dish he made earlier this week and have a salad on the side. The girls are beat today, so we skip bathtime and let them go straight to bed. Thankfully, daycare can reopen tomorrow. I feel like a weight’s been lifted from my shoulders, especially since I have class tomorrow.
9:00: I have a call with my school study team to work on our group project. It lasts for about an hour.
10:30: Husband and I discuss buying a swing set for our backyard. He’s narrowed it down to two choices, and they’re both awesome: three swings, a rock wall, slide, and clubhouse area. I think they both look great, so I leave the final decision in his hands. The total with shipping and tax ends up being $1760. We considered buying a pre-assembled swing set to save time, but similar models cost nearly $6K. He’s handy, so he said he’d prefer to assemble it himself.
Day 6 Total: $2,384
Day 7 (Friday):
6:15: I have class today so I eat breakfast and get dressed early. I tend to wear a lot of athleisure when working from home. Today I put on a structured ponte dress and hastily apply Tarte makeup to give my skin some color. Every time I make the effort to get dressed, I'm reminded that I really do feel more confident when I look put together. I get to school around 9:00 for my first class.
12:00: Break in my schedule for lunch. I eat a salad and some kind of chicken dish, while catching up with classmates (covered by tuition). For dessert, I have a huge bowl of berries. Lots more coffee to keep me awake and engaged during class.
7:00: Classes are over for the day. I pay parking ($17) and am on my way. I get home at 8:30, in time to do bedtime with my girls. Husband made veggie quesadillas with black beans and guacamole, which I eat once the girls are asleep. I check my work email to make sure nothing is on fire. Then my husband and I watch an episode of “What We Do In the Shadows” and turn in for the night.
Day 7 Total: $17
WEEKLY TOTALS
Food + Drink: $371.50
Fun / Entertainment: $2,106
Home + Health: $572
Clothes + Beauty: $0
Transport: $333
Other: $155
Weekly Total: $3,537.5
Reflections: Some of this week’s expenditures were unusual: the swing set, my travel expenses, and that old ER bill are not part of our normal recurring expenses. However, the rest of this week's spending was pretty typical. I realize a lot of this diary revolved around sorting out childcare disruptions…honestly, that takes so much mental and logistical energy on a weekly basis. Writing this diary also made me realize how little time my husband and I spend together. Often we feel like we’re in survival mode, but we need to be more intentional about prioritizing our relationship.

2023.05.30 06:15 Darth_Klaus What are all the top breaking revolver designs that have been made?
I know about the most popular and well known ones and some of the more obscure ones. Schofield, webley, Enfield’s, iver Johnson’s, smith and Wesson self defense revolvers, etc. but some other ones like the bland-dryse, deltonics, webley fosbery, etc. I just want to know what else is out there because I am researching the designs that have been done and trying to find inspiration for improving the design further. What would you think is probably the strongest design ever used?

2023.05.30 05:44 luckyleporidae Transphobic MIL harassing DH over not keeping his last name
TRIGGER WARNING: Transphobia
Quick backstory: both me & D(ear)H are transgender. My parents are supportive, his are not- he is consistently deadnamed and harassed about his gender & how he presents, and his parents have expressed their distaste for our relationship before.
DH has been at his parent's house for the last week as his younger brother is graduating. Unfortunately, I couldn't come with, as I'm dealing with work related things and it ended up being too expensive for me to take the time off and join him. I was super anxious about him going alone, but he said he had talked to MIL and that everything would be fine, it's just two weeks, how bad can it get?
And lord, y'all, it's bad. There's been constant belittling, use of slurs, outright mocking of other LGBT people in their community and their supportive families. DH has called me every night stressed out of his mind from being there.
Today, he let it slip that he's planning on taking my last name- he hasn't changed his name legally yet, and is waiting a few months to change his gender marker at the same time. My last name is fairly common (think Smith or Brown levels of common), and his family's is a lot more unique. We had several long conversations about it when we decided to get married, and decided we wanted to keep the ties to my family and that it was nice not having to spell our surnames for things like bookings.
She's told him so far that I should be taking his last name, that it's more unique and would be a shame to end the lineage (he has two siblings who can carry it on for them if they want to!), and even had the audacity to say he needs a "better" last name if he's going to succeed at all in his industry. It's like the straw that's broken the camel's back- DH is a tough guy and has just been trying to get through the trip for his brother's sake, but having her harass him about this is what's pushed him over the edge. The real kicker is that he was never planning on keeping his last name, even if he didn't take mine- he wanted to change it to his grandmother's maiden name, as she's been an amazing support in his life over the last few years.
I've been trying to convince him that going NC is an idea worth considering for over a year now- the relationship he has with them just isn't healthy. This is another slight on a long list of faults and I just want him home and safe and away from her. I can't imagine she's ever going to improve, and I'm at a loss for how else I can help.

2023.05.30 05:20 thisgingercake EMDR Therapy... What Is It? - - Cleveland, Ohio
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/22641-emdr-therapy EMDR Therapy
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, commonly known as EMDR, is a mental health therapy method. EMDR treats mental health conditions that happen because of memories from traumatic events in your past. It’s best known for its role in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but its use is expanding to include treatment of many other conditions.
Overview
What is EMDR therapy?
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a mental health treatment technique. This method involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process traumatic memories. EMDR’s goal is to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Compared to other therapy methods, EMDR is relatively new. The first clinical trial investigating EMDR was in 1989. Dozens of clinical trials since EMDR’s development show this technique is effective and can help a person faster than many other methods.
Who needs to have EMDR therapy?
EMDR can help people with a wide range of mental health conditions. Adolescents, teenagers and adults of all ages can benefit from this treatment. Some healthcare providers also specialize in EMDR for children.
Why is this treatment used?
EMDR therapy doesn’t require talking in detail about a distressing issue. EMDR instead focuses on changing the emotions, thoughts or behaviors that result from a distressing experience (trauma). This allows your brain to resume a natural healing process. While many people use the words “mind” and “brain” when referring to the same thing, they’re actually different. Your brain is an organ of your body. Your mind is the collection of thoughts, memories, beliefs and experiences that make you who you are.
The way your mind works relies on the structure of your brain. That structure involves networks of communicating brain cells across many different areas. That’s especially the case with sections that involve your memories and senses. That networking makes it faster and easier for those areas to work together. That’s why your senses — sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feels — can bring back strong memories.
Adaptive Information Processing
EMDR relies on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, a theory about how your brain stores memories. This theory, developed by Francine Shapiro, PhD, who also developed EMDR, recognizes that your brain stores normal and traumatic memories differently.
During normal events, your brain stores memories smoothly. It also networks them, so they connect to other things you remember. During disturbing or upsetting events, that networking doesn’t happen correctly. The brain can go “offline” and there’s a disconnect between what you experience (feel, hear, see) and what your brain stores in memory through language.
Often, your brain stores trauma memories in a way that doesn’t allow for healthy healing. Trauma is like a wound that your brain hasn’t been allowed to heal. Because it didn’t have the chance to heal, your brain didn’t receive the message that the danger is over.
Newer experiences can link up to earlier trauma experiences and reinforce a negative experience over and over again. That disrupts the links between your senses and memories. It also acts as an injury to your mind. And just like your body is sensitive to pain from an injury, your mind has a higher sensitivity to things you saw, heard, smelled or felt during a trauma-related event.
This happens not only with events you can remember, but also with suppressed memories. Much like how you learn not to touch a hot stove because it burns your hand, your mind tries to suppress memories to avoid accessing them because they’re painful or upsetting. However, the suppression isn’t perfect, meaning the “injury” can still cause negative symptoms, emotions and behaviors.
Triggers
Sights, sounds and smells with a connection or similarity to a trauma event will “trigger” those improperly stored memories. Unlike other memories, these can cause overwhelming feelings of fear, anxiety, anger or panic.
An example of this is a post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, flashback, where improper storage and networking causes your mind to access those memories in a way that’s uncontrolled, distorted and overpowering. That’s why people with a history of flashbacks describe feeling as if they were reliving a disturbing event. The past becomes the present.
Reprocessing and repair
When you undergo EMDR, you access memories of a trauma event in very specific ways. Combined with eye movements and guided instructions, accessing those memories helps you reprocess what you remember from the negative event.
That reprocessing helps “repair” the mental injury from that memory. Remembering what happened to you will no longer feel like reliving it, and the related feelings will be much more manageable.
What conditions and problems does EMDR treat?
The most widespread use of EMDR is for treating
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Mental healthcare providers also use it in the treatment of the following conditions:
How common is EMDR therapy?
EMDR therapy is very common around the world. In the United States, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense list EMDR as a “best practice” in treating veterans experiencing PTSD. Research on EMDR includes dozens of clinical trials, research studies and academic papers. It has official approval from the World Health Organization (WHO) and government organizations and agencies in the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany, among others.
Is EMDR controversial?
There’s some controversy surrounding why EMDR works. The creator of EMDR, Dr. Francine Shapiro, later developed a working theory about how your brain stores memories after accidentally discovering the eye movement technique she later used to create this therapy technique.
However, that controversy doesn’t extend to whether or not EMDR does work. Dozens of controlled trials and research studies have analyzed EMDR and shown that it’s effective.
Procedure Details
What does EMDR therapy involve?
EMDR therapy consists of eight phases. These phases occur over multiple sessions, with one session sometimes using parts of several phases. An example of this would be how phases 1 and 2 typically happen only in early sessions, while phases 3 through 8 are part of multiple sessions later.
For a single disturbing event or memory, it usually takes between three and six sessions. More complex or longer-term traumas may take eight to 12 sessions (or sometimes more). Sessions usually last between an hour and 90 minutes. The eight phases are:
- Patient history and information gathering. This part of the process involves your healthcare provider gathering information about you and your past. This helps them determine if EMDR is likely to help you. It also includes asking about upsetting or disturbing events and memories that you want your therapy to focus on, as well as your goals for this therapy.
- Preparation and education. During this phase, your healthcare provider will talk to you about what will happen during EMDR sessions and what you can expect. They’ll also talk to you about things to focus on to help you feel more stable and safe during sessions. They’ll provide you with tools to help you manage your emotions.
- Assessment. This part of the process is where your healthcare provider helps you identify themes and specific memories that you may want to work on during reprocessing. They’ll help you identify both negative beliefs about how the trauma has made you feel, as well as positive beliefs that you would like to believe about yourself going forward.
- Desensitization and reprocessing. During this phase, your healthcare provider activates your memory by helping you identify one or more specific negative images, thoughts, feelings and body sensations. Throughout the reprocessing, they’ll help you notice how you feel and any new thoughts or insight you have about what you’re experiencing.
- Installation. During this phase, your healthcare provider will have you focus on the positive belief you want to build in as you process a memory. This positive belief can be what you said in phase 3 or something new you think of during phase 4.
- Body scan. Your healthcare provider will have you focus on how you feel in your body, especially any of the symptoms you feel when you think about or experience the negative memory. This phase helps identify your progress through EMDR therapy overall. As you go through sessions, your symptoms should decrease until you don’t have any (or as close to none as possible). Once your symptoms are gone, your reprocessing is complete.
- Closure and stabilization. This phase forms a bridge between later sessions. During this phase, your healthcare provider will talk to you about what you should expect between sessions. They’ll also talk to you about how to stabilize yourself, especially if you have negative thoughts or feelings during the time between sessions. They won’t end a session until you feel calmer and safe. They might also ask you to write down any new thoughts you have about the disturbing event(s), so you can bring them up at your next session.
- Reevaluation and continuing care. The final phase of EMDR therapy involves your healthcare provider going over your progress and how you’re doing now. This can help determine if you need additional sessions or how to adjust your goals and expectations for your therapy. They’ll also help you explore what you might experience in the future — how you would like to handle things at that time, knowing what you know now, about yourself and your past trauma.
Sense activation during phase 4
In the early years of EMDR, stimulating a single sense on both sides of your body usually involved your vision. Healthcare providers would hold up a hand with two fingers extended and have you follow the tip of their finger from side to side with your eyes only.
Newer methods for EMDR can involve your vision, such as with specialized light devices. These have a moving light that you follow with your eyes in place of your healthcare provider’s hand. Other devices might use sound, where speakers on either side of your body play tones. Healthcare providers might also use your sense of touch (if you’re comfortable with this), tapping on your hands, arms or thighs to activate your sense of touch on both sides of your body, or holding a device that pulses in your hands.
Risks / Benefits
What are the advantages and disadvantages of EMDR?
EMDR has several advantages.
- It works. Dozens of studies have found that EMDR is effective.
- It tends to work faster than other forms of therapy. People receiving EMDR typically start seeing results much sooner than with other forms of therapy.
- It involves less homework. Other forms of therapy typically involve journaling or other types of homework outside of your sessions. EMDR usually involves only writing down any thoughts or ideas you want to bring up at your next session (if and when those thoughts happen).
- It’s usually less stressful. EMDR focuses on processing and moving past your trauma. Other methods involve having you describe and even relive negative events.
Disadvantages
EMDR does have some drawbacks compared to other forms of therapy.
- It only works with conditions related to traumatic experiences. If you have a mental health condition because of an inherited condition, an injury or other physical effect on your brain, EMDR is unlikely to help.
- Why it works is still theoretical. EMDR was an accidental discovery. Experts still can't fully explain why it works, despite the evidence that it works.
- It’s a new method. EMDR’s creation happened in 1989, while other forms of therapy have been in use for much longer. More research is necessary before experts know if EMDR is a long-term solution or if people need additional therapy years or decades later.
What are the risks or complications of this procedure?
EMDR has very low risks. The most common negative effects are negative thoughts or feelings between sessions. Your healthcare provider can help you understand what to expect with these and how you can react to them.

2023.05.30 05:17 tjkim1121 Sites for AI Roleplay
Here is a list of platforms where you can roleplay with AI. We'll classify them as those where an Open AI API key can be used, and those where another AI technology is employed, or where an API key is not needed.
Sites Where An API Key May Be Used
- Open Characters: A simple front-end where an API key is required. It can use GPT3.5, Da Vinci, and GPT4 (if you have access). It shows the amounts you spent, allows you to create your own characters, export/import your data (including conversations), and create a lorebook and memories. This is local to your machine, so you'll need to download your data to use it across platforms. You don't need to install anything, and it opens directly in your browser. I personally use this as my preferred front-end. https://josephrocca.github.io/OpenCharacters/
- Tavern AI: This is a front-end which you can install on your computer or on Android phones. It will enable you to use Open AI with a key, as well as Pygmalion, Kobold, and Novel Ai. I haven't used this so cannot comment further. https://tavernai.net
- Silly Tavern: This is a fork that was created from Tavern AI. It too can be run from the computer or your Android device. It adds more features like charactes emoting and speaking, as well as access to Poe (with an API key that can be obtained by following their instructions.) I tried this but found it not usable with my screen-reader so cannot comment further. https://github.com/SillyTavern/SillyTavern
- Agnaistic: This is a front-end which offers access to Horde, NovelAI, Kobold, OpenAI, Scale, Claude, and Goose AI. They do not require registration and do not store your information. Registration does allow you to log in and resume conversations from elsewhere. Characters are private to you as well. I haven't used it personally so cannot comment further. http://www.agnai.chat
- Risu AI: This is another front-end where characters can be created and shared, and various AI services like Horde and Open AI can be used. I haven't used it personally so can't comment. http://www.risuai.xyz
- Riku AI: This is actually a playground (and it costs $29 for the base monthly plan). They allow you to use many different language models, including Open AI, Cohere (which gives you a free key that doesn't require payment unless developing an app), AI 21, and a host many others. You design your own prompts and chatbots. Though it caters mainly to the content creator, I have enjoyed some fun roleplay with the Evil Hypnotist (a chatbot I created), and fine-tuned a model to behave like a character I wanted to recreate. It's a place to test language models side by side and see which ones will give you the results you seek. http://www.riku.ai
Sites Not Requiring an API Key
- AI Dungeon: I would be remiss if I didn't include this one as they are the ones who brought AI text adventures back to the forefront after Zork's hayday ended in the late 80s. They have a filter to prevent any sort of sexual acts with minors, and they have community guidelines for shared adventures, but solo private adventures are not moderated/filtered aside from what I listed above. They use the AI21 models and Chat GPT (for more SFW adventures), and they employ open AI models like Stable Diffusion for image generation. They have several tiered plans, the most expensive one being $29 monthly giving access to the most AI models. http://www.play.aidungeon.io
- Chat GPT: Ah, good old Chat GPT. This is Open AI's simplified site. You will have to prompt the chat when it begins with what you would like to do. Open AI does have a filter on this, and as I've not tried any intense stuff here, I cannot comment. http://www.chat.openai.com
- Poe: This is a site by Quora which gives access to Open AI's GPT3.5 Turbo/Chat GPT, as well as Claude by Anthropic. Paying their fee of $19.99 monthly gives access to Claude+, Claude 100K token context, and GPT4. Again, you will need to prompt it, and each model has its own filters. You can create your own character bots and use or share them as you see fit. http://www.poe.com
- Love AI (In Development): This is a community-funded project which enables people to chat with various characters as created by Patreon supporters and the dev himself. This was designed to be a place for uncensored interactions. In keeping with their name, they are focusing on the love aspect of things, and conversations can (and will) get NSFW pretty quickly. For obvious reasons, underaged characters are not allowed here. You can find out about the project, support it, and gain early access below. They are going to be running an Alpha, which should begin sometime in June. https://www.patreon.com/TurbulentDev/posts
- Character AI: This is a website where you can create and interact with characters of your choice. There are a lot of public characters available, so chances are you will be able to find one you want to interact with. They are free to use, though due to demand, they have implemented a waiting-room as a means of crowd control. They have a filter against the hanky-panky, and I've heard it has been cracking down on violence too (though I've also heard that's an overcorrection they're aiming to fix.) In any case, I should mention them simply because they were featured as the million-dollar unicorn that hadn't yet generated any revenue now partnering with Google that once again, got AI roleplay on the map. http://www.character.ai
- chatfai.com: This is a site where you can chat with AI characters, both community-created and those made yourself. You can choose to keep characters private to you. No filters, however, underaged characters is prohibited. You can get 100 messages a month for free. They have a few plans that range in cost from $9 to $59. http://www.chatfai.com
This list will be updated as I learn of more sites, and include the ones I initially forgot about. Feel free to include any you discover and I'll add them to the list.

10. Manipulation Quotes.......................................................................................................27812
1. IntroductionManipulation is not the same as influence. We all use influence other people to advance our goals, to motivate others and to help them realize their own goals. Influencing happens all the time and in many different ways. As long as we inspire, motivate, convince, persuade, seduce or use assertiveness most people will agree that we are acting within the frame of healthy social life.Every now and then, however, we will use a different tactic: we will manipulate people to get what we want. There are a lot of negative connotations connected to manipulating. The reason is that, contrary to the first series of tactics, manipulation works with unfair means and does not respect the personal rights of the second party (now called "the victim"): it violates his integrity, works with hidden agendas and deliberately uses dishonest tricks like faulty reasoning, coercion, blackmail and lying in an attempt to control the victim's actions. Manipulation also is unbalanced: it is about suiting the manipulator's advantage or purpose only, often even at the expense of the victim. So, in theory, the difference is clear enough: influencing is positive, manipulating is negative. Influencing is ethical, manipulating is not.In practice, it is often more difficult to know when you are being manipulated and how to best defend yourself against it: Manipulation is unbalanced, the manipulator is trying to benefit at your expense. Yet one of the tricks he will use to reach his goal, is to convince you that you are the one who is to benefit most. How can you know whether a person is hiding information from you in an attempt to mislead you? How can you be certain about the final intentions of another person? It's often really difficult to recognize manipulation when it happens. After all, if we are aware that it is happening ... would we allow ourselves to be manipulated? One of the reasons that we ignore to recognize manipulation is that it goes against the very basics of honest behaviour: We want to be respected, appreciated and loved for whom we are. This implies that we avoid hurting others, avoid lying, feel we deserve the benefit of the doubt and therefore treat others as innocent until proven guilty. Because we act like this, we assume others do too. Every now and then however, we will meet with people that have a different approach to life. As a rule, it is safe to say that when things look like bullshit and smell like it, they usually are bullshit. When you feel uneasy about a relationship; when you have to give in too much; when you feel like having to walk on egg shells; when you feel guilty, humiliated or imperfect after yet another difficult conversation; when choices become power-games; when affection turns green with jealousy or becomes overwhelming, exclusive and possessive; when there are half-truths, lies, denials surfacing; when everything that goes wrong somehow is your fault; when you feel you are pressured to take decisions you do not agree with ... chances that you are being manipulated are very real.If you already know this, than you also know a manipulator rarely comes unprepared. Feeling that you are being manipulated is one thing. Putting the finger on the right spot is much more difficult. 13📷 Because, of course, the manipulator will claim that he acted in good faith; that "again", he is being misunderstood, ...That is where this book comes in handy: it lists and explains the tricks manipulators use and teaches you how to recognize them and how to best defend and protect yourself.14📷

Continue Reading with Trial 1. Manipulation: What, Why, Who, How?Personal Growth - The Manipulation Trap: Are you a victim? - by Anita Anandhttp://
www.lifepositive.com/Mind/Personal\_Growth/The\_Manipulation\_Trap92010.aspDo you find yourself doing things that you do not really want to? When someone close to you or in a situation of power suggests that you do something against your will, how do you feel? Probably not good. How often do you experience or hear of people who seem to have been blackmailed into accepting life-changing decisions (such as choice of education, career, and marriage partner), because their parents, partners, bosses, best friends, or children thought it was best for them.Everybody who wants something from somebody else is a potential manipulator. Especially when the feeling is that they can get what they want more easily in a covert way than in open and rational ways.Manipulation often is about power. Manipulators want the power to dominate you, to force you to give them whatever it is they are after to feel important, safe, comfortable, valued, loved, …: obedience, loyalty, cooperation, support, vote, silence, energy, time, work, money, attention, companionship, friendship, love, sex, … your Chinese Vases … really anything. No wonder that manipulators come in all kinds, as we will see in the next chapters. All salesmen are trained in “sales techniques”, many of which are in fact “manipulation techniques”. Important however is to realize that everybody will try to manipulate others every now and then. Though ethically never a good solution, in the real world we will all sometimes use manipulation to win time, because the favour required is not important, to prevent a mayor bad, to avoid arguments and frictions, “because this is for a real noble cause”, etc… Manipulation becomes a problem only when the manipulator advances his own interests at the expense of this victim’s and causes mental, physical, financial or other harm.According to clinical psychologist Dr George Simon, often, manipulators in many ways are dysfunctional people who conceal aggressive intentions and behaviours; know the psychological vulnerabilities of the victim to determine what tactics are likely to be the most effective, and have a sufficient level of ruthlessness to have no qualms about causing harm to the victim if necessary.Manipulators also need to advance their own purposes and their own gain, even at virtually any cost to others. They need to attain feelings of power, and superiority in relationships with others and need to feel in control.Dr Richard Paul and Dr Linda Elker write: “The human mind has no natural guide to the truth, nor does it naturally love the truth. What the human mind loves, is itself: what serves it, what flatters it, what gives it what it wants, and what strikes down and destroys whatever threatens it”.Manipulators know this very well. They shrewdly focus on pursuing their own interest, without respect to how that pursuit affect others. They know how to use the established structure of power to advance their interests. They have a great command of the rhetoric of persuasion and are more sophisticated, more verbal and generally have more schooling, greater status and achieve more success than uncritical persons. They are accustomed to playing the dominant role in relationships. They cannot effectively manipulate others if they appear to them to be invalidating their beliefs. That is why they are rarely rebels or critics of society. In fact, since they are fundamentally concerned, not with advancing rational values, but with getting what they want, they are careful to present themselves as sharing the values of those they manipulate. For the same reason, they strive to appear before others in a way that associates themselves with power, authority and conventional morality. Their goal is 15📷📷📷

Continue Reading with Trial always to control what others think and they do so by controlling the way information is presented to them.In order to control and change your mind, however, they first have to read it. Manipulators will observe you, collect information through how you answer their questions and what your friends or colleagues tell about you, but also through finding out more about you: who you associate with, where you live, what your life is like, how you feel, what you read, which music you listen to, what you do … Nowadays this kind of personal information is always more found through electronic traces that you leave on the internet: social network profiles, comments, things you published, …Manipulators continually collect, consolidate, then sift all of this information in order to find thought patterns that can be interpreted as your personal disposition, i.e., to better understand your personality, character matrix and hence find your weak spots. Here is a warning for in case you would consider starting to take advantage of some people yourself: If you treat some people unselfishly, you will basically treat everybody you deal with unselfishly. But if you take advantage today of some people, you will end up taking advantage of anyone.“Show me a man who mistreats his enemies, and I’ll show you a man who stabs his friends in the back too.” (R.B. Sparkman – The art of manipulation)16📷📷

Continue Reading with Trial 2. Information From Wikipediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological\_manipulation**2.1 What exactly is Psychological Manipulation?Psychological manipulation
is a type of social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded, deceptive, or even abusive tactics. By advancing the interests of the manipulator, often at the other's expense, such methods could be considered exploitative, abusive, devious, and deceptive. It depends on the context and motivations, whether social influence constitutes underhanded manipulation.2.2 What is required for**
successful manipulation?According to George K. Simon, successful psychological manipulation primarily involves the manipulator:1.concealing aggressive intentions and behaviors.2.knowing the psychological vulnerabilities of the victim to determine what tactics are likely to be the most effective.3.having a sufficient level of ruthlessness to have no qualms about causing harm to the victim if necessary.Consequently the manipulation is likely to be accomplished through covert aggressive (relational aggressive or passive aggressive) means.
2.3 What do manipulators want?Manipulators can have various possible motivations, including: the need to advance their own purposes and personal gain at virtually any cost to othersa strong need to attain feelings of power and superiority in relationships with othersa want and need to feel in control (aka. control freak)a desire to gain a feeling of power over others in order to raise their perception of self-esteem17📷📷📷📷

2023.05.30 05:13 therealGrandKai New player, looking for build suggestions
Hey all, recently found a friend to play aos. Been sitting on the start collecting box (with the carnosaur), 2 boxes of terradon riders, 20 warriors, a bastiadon, and a skink priest. All bought in a lot. Always wanted to play but never had an irl friend to play with and never learned. I'm not quite sure what I need to fill this list out, what to scrap/add. I just saw they released a whole slew of new models as well. Should I grab the army box and some skinks? Not super worried about the cost but don't want to be frivolous either. Trying to hit 2000 points.
Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Got my hands on the rulebook and the new battletome so about to dive into those.

2023.05.30 05:12 Tombstunner Gigabyte G5 MD RTX3050ti RAM Expansion
Does anyone knows which models of RAM are acceptable in this laptop model? I want to expand it to 64gb.
I bought 2x HyperX 32gb 3200Mhz RAMs but I run into some problem with its BIOS. The laptop doesn't boot with both RAMs installed. The only working combination is the original ADATA 8gb RAM in slot 1 and the 32gb RAM in slot 2. The laptop came with the BIOS FB 03. After updating it to the most recent version (FB 10) the laptop doesn't boot anymore with any combination using a 32gb RAM.
Does anyone has any ideas on what I could try to make it work? I already trying contacting the official support online but they couldn't help with a list of compatible 32gb RAMs.

2023.05.30 04:52 throwaway26769 I (F22) accidentally found porn on my boyfriends (M22) phone, asked about it and he lied to my face repeatedly. Should I just let it go or is this a red flag
I (F22) M(22) has been together for a few years and everything has been perfect. He’s such a good partner. Our families live close and I feel so he’s a sweetheart and we have a really solid relationship. We’re both fit, take care of ourselves. In fact I feel like I’ve been the fittest and most attractive I’ve ever been. I feel really confident in myself and have even been told by random people that I should model.
Just this issue is bothering me. we have discussed in the past our thoughts on porn. I personally didn’t have a problem with it until I learned how much it can impact your mind and saw it affect ex boyfriends to the point that they had intense addictions.
I completely understand that men and woman are going to be attracted to other people in a relationship and that men naturally want to watch hot women. I’m never going to police what he watches or how he spends his time. But we have discussed multiple times in the past that porn isn’t too healthy when it comes to our relationship and how my boyfriend even said he really doesn’t watch anymore and that he can’t stand the industry. He also said “ how could I watch porn when I have you and your pictures and videos you send” Well a few months back I was searching something on his phone for him since he was driving and when I started typing up the first letter a list of porn site suggestions popped up. I asked him if he had been watching and he said very very rarely and that he tries to avoid it. Said he only watched once or twice a month
I believed that. I really trusted him when he said that. But it turns out he was watching multiple times a week. Early in our relationship I noticed he had been struggling with ED and not having much sensitivity during sex. This has gotten better! But I still feel like I’m the one with the higher sex drive. He wants it 2 maybe 3 times a week and I could go for 5-6
On the days he turns me down or wants to sleep on his own I learned he was watching porn those nights. Which really hurt. I’m questioning if I’m doing anything wrong or if he’s not attracted to me. I know I’m very attractive and take care of myself, but sometimes I see the girls he follows and likes on ig or his celebrity crushes or porn interests look the exact opposite of me. I’m slim, small chest decent bum and he looks at porn and ig of super curvy tan women. He even looked at Reddit posts that showed a before and after of this women’s boob job. And she had the same before as my body type… he looked recently at a lot of “weight gain” “boob job” “growing a booty at the gym” kinda stuff. And well that’s all the things I’m trying to improve about myself but feel So insecure about. Again I’m very slim and don’t have much curves.
I’m not one to snoop on a phone of a partner. But when I put our phones to charge in the evening I saw notifications from Reddit pop up on his homescreen of porn clips the days after he spends an evening alone.
I guess what I’m asking is am I overreacting? I feel like this whole issue isn’t making me feel less confident as much but I’m just feeling neglected. If he wanted more sex or I wasn’t getting rejected as often I wouldn’t be as bothered about the porn. Any time I bring it up he denies and starts saying “why do you expect me to be perfect “ “look at how good our relationship is, why focus on the negative things!” And then I end up apologizing for bringing it up.
I talked with my therapist about this and she said that it sounds like he has an addiction if he can’t go a few days without it. And that he uses it as an emotional crutch. She also said that it sounds like he’s not doing anything to work on it. He still follows tons of women on social media, ex hookups, random girls, he keeps the apps to look at porn like Reddit. He isn’t honest with himself or me about it and also not in therapy.
TLDR: (F22) accidentally found porn on my boyfriends (M22) phone, asked about it and he lied to my face repeatedly. He has a lower sex drive but still watches porn multiple times a week. Should I just let it go or is this a red flag

2023.05.30 04:51 NearbyTomorrow9605 Interesting take on LIV/PGA
Not my personal thoughts/views/opinion. Just found it interesting. From @bobballpdx on Twitter.
This last winter, I was stunned to be picked up in an UBER by an active golfer on a Tour (being careful to not out this person.) I had played at the Vintage Club in Palm Springs. He picked me up and asked how it went. When I realized who he was, I was stunned. I realized that by the time they pay their caddies, team, etc... the players at the bottom of the PGAT or other tours barely make it. They are running a small business and it's hard. LIV has pushed the PGAT to front a minimum of $500,000 to all of its' players and that's good but its needs to be even better. I love the PGAT but also think LIV is great and is good for golf. I think any detractor that brings up the funding source is a hypocrite given the PGA Tour's involvement in China, Armco being a large sponsor (biggest?) of the LPGA, and knowing the US can ban any entity from investing in publicly listed companies.
When they say they don't want to hear "whataboutisms" this is just deflecting from their own hypocrisy. Any critic of LIV for funding reasons needs to cancel their Twitter, not fly in a Boeing jet, cancel their Facebook account, never watch Disney, don't take and UBER, etc..(the list goes on and on.) Journalists (sic) @chambleebrandel @eamonlynch have railed against the morality of LIV because of funding, yet never bring the hypocrisy to light. Of course LIV supporters understand the complexity of Saudi funding. But if we are going to go down that road, we need to be honest about the PGAT and other sports and call for the same divestment. Funding sources is a straw man argument. I can respect arguments that revolve around golf, it's history, and what's best overall for players and the health of tours.
I think there is room for LIV, the PGAT, and more! Growing the game internationally and athletes being paid for being great is good. New formats and teams is exciting. Funding sources is a talking point distributed to lazy reporters to parrot to tear down competition. It's harder to do the work and flesh out false piety. It's easy to be a defender of a meritocracy and monopoly when you sit high a top a comfortable perch and aren't a professional golfer; having to drive an UBER to make ends meet and pick up duffers like me complaining about their crappy play.

2023.05.30 04:36 Reality-Sufficient Seeking Opinions on e5-large-v2 and instructor-xl Embedding Models for Multilingual Applications
Hi Reddit Community,
I hope you're all doing well. I've been recently exploring the realm of embedding models for a multilingual project I am working on, and I've narrowed my options down to two models: e5-large-v2 and instructor-xl.
Each of them appears promising, with their own unique features and capabilities. But, as we all know, practical, real-world performance can often be different from what's listed on paper. Hence, I'm turning to you, the wise folks of this subreddit, in hopes of gaining some insight into these models.
Specifically, I'm looking to understand the following:
- Multilingual Capability: How effective are these models in handling multiple languages? Are they proficient in capturing the semantics across different languages?
- Performance: What are your experiences with these models in terms of accuracy, speed, and computational resource requirements? Is one noticeably more efficient or effective than the other?
- Implementation: How user-friendly are these models when it comes to implementation? Are there any hurdles that I should be aware of before diving in?
- Versatility: Can they handle a broad range of tasks well? Or do they excel in certain areas but fall short in others?
- Support and Documentation: How well-documented are these models? If I run into issues during implementation or operation, is there an active community or support team to turn to?
I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your personal experiences and thoughts about these two models. Also, if there's another model that you believe might be a better fit for my needs, feel free to suggest it.
I look forward to reading your insights. Thanks in advance for your time and help!
Best, Hamouda ALIAS
