2023.06.08 23:53 MistressAthena69 Feedback of a new player.
As a new player, I have quite a few inputs of feedback. Since this is Beta, I'm hoping this is the place to do it.
I feel as though there seems to be way too much benefits to attackers in the form of how many tickets they get, how fast and easy everything is to destroy in terms of fortifications, etc, and how easy it is to just flank, and mow down defenders. All of this seems quite unbalanced.
As a whole, I'd like to see defenses be more durable, as well as sandbags, and wire be more dynamic in placement. This makes using TnT, flamethrowers, and vehicles to assault and destroy defenses more required, than just mowing down the defenders, and easily destroying these emplacements with a small sneeze.
Other notes:
1) More information on what stuff means in upgrades for squads would be nice. This is completely confusing for new players, and some things are not explained at all, for example, what is "Reserves". Is that how many times I can bring it out in battle? I've never seem to have hit a time I couldn't, so what this exactly means is confusing.
2) Flamethrowers are completely broken and overpowered. The instant I touch a flame I'm dead, because by the time I put it out, I'm on fire again anyway because being anywhere within 10 nautical miles of another flame instantly puts me back on fire.
I think these weapons need to be more niche in use, and much quicker to run out of fuel. They should be used in situations where the enemy is heavily dug in, and you need to clear out a dense concentration of them. Not a tool to use on the fly, to literally lawnmower the enemy out of buildings and cap points indefinitely.
3) Paratroopers. Having them able to literally just paratroop on the next cap is a bit busted... I've seen it numerous times, and it makes it impossible for the opposing team to fall back, and and actually setup defenses.
4) Workshop upgrades seem a little.. linear, and restricting.
An example is the Grenadier Regiment I have. I can unlock a Sniper, Engineer, or Radioman, as well as another further down in the upgrades.
however, the Workshop, only allows me to buff, or upgrade the Mannlicher.. Some of these units don't even use that weapon.
a) Only 1 unit actually comes with that weapon. THe rest come with K98. Meaning I have to waste equipment tokens outfitting the rest of them with that weapon. Or just give up any and all upgrades for those units.
b) Any purchased soldier also comes with the K98, not the weapon that that squad gets buffs for.
c) Down the road I can unlock other forms of rifles, which are arguably better, or potentially better for how I'm trying to setup that dynamic squad.. Being able to have radioman, AT, Snipers, Engineers, etc.. allows this squad to be built quite dynamically.. And yet, its all thrown away and worthless because the Workshop says I'm only going to be the best with 1 type of weapon, which 99% of the units don't even come with.
My suggestion, is that if you want to force a squad to be proficient at a specific weapon, allow the base units in that squad to start with that weapon.
Or allow the players to choose which weapon they want that squad to be proficient with. Whether its the Mannlicher, Kar98, etc, with additional upgrade paths for other weapons suitable for that squad further down the upgrade tree. Example having a Workshop upgrade further down the path, for the Gewehr 43.
5) I mentioned before that defenses are too weak to really matter. Maybe that's why nobody bothers building any. If the emplacements, sandbags, wire, etc. are all made more durable, I think this would go a long way to slowing down the combat a bit more.
90% of my games, has been zerg rushes to the cap, and 1 team just rolls the other, because there is never a time or opportunity to build them. The enemy is immediately on your cap, or on your next cap almost instantly.
This is doubly so for emplacements like the Anti Vehicle blockades, X's (forgot what they're called).
I think slowing down the combat just slightly, or having a momentary moment, where the attackers cannot push forward yet, letting the defenders fall back, and at least put up some quick temporary defenses would help. This doesn't need to be any longer than 30 seconds or so, but something to give a little breathing room, and distance between the two again.
The maps are simply too small and too compact, to allow anything else to really work imo, but something really should be done to help the defenders actually defend.
6) Binoculars, or a "Radioman" with Binoculars, able to "paint", or mark enemies for allied planes. Only planes can see these marks, and they'd light up an AOE area on the ground for a short period, where any enemy units in it, are lit up for the aircraft to see.
This doesn't need to be a huge area, even a small area would be helpful, when there is a zerg rush konga line of enemies, marking a spot with the binocs, so the enemies keep getting light up as they cross would help pilots see what's going on better, without it being completely broken, and free win.
If this was limited to just the radioman, it would also help limit the abuse of it, and be very centric towards what a radioman's job would realistically be.

2023.06.08 23:18 MoldyPineapple12 Memphissippi - An alternate version of the Magnolia state
The world of American politics is a little dry right now, so this one won’t be an actual Angry Observation™, but more of an interesting theoretical idea I came up with. Or liberal wet dream, you take your pick.
Inspired by a post I saw on Dave’s redistricting, I’ve been thinking about how much of a difference it would make if Shelby County, Tennessee (Memphis) was a part of the state of Mississippi, politically speaking.
If Memphis and its million or so residents were a part of Mississippi, it would completely change the racial, and thus, political dynamics of the state. Shelby county is about half Black, half White, which would bring up Mississippi’s overall Black percentage and affect many election results from the recent past. A small difference in lines on a map would result in a new, mostly Democratically-controlled state that remains extremely polarized and utterly stagnant, yet still surprisingly competitive on the presidential level (more on this later).
First off, Democrats would’ve never lost the state legislature in 2010 with the huge cushion of Memphis. The state would have an extra congressional district/electoral vote and legislative Democrats would be able to gerrymander state maps all on their own (the governor plays no role in state level redistricting). Democrats would be able to draw state maps to ensure they kept their power in 2012 and beyond. Drawing narrow, yet stable majorities would be all that’s necessary to maintain their hold in a state with hardly any shifting at all.
If Democrats also held the governorship after 2011, it would likely result in a 3D-2R or even 4D-1R House delegation. The state would likely have a Democrat or two in the Senate as well.
If Democrats had the ability to get aggressive with their House map, I could see them going for a Republican pack in the southern Gulf region, while dividing up the current Bennie Thompson delta district, with a two or three way split of Memphis across northern Mississippi to make each seat blue. The map would probably need to have at least two majority/plurality white districts to meet VRA requirements though. They would likely make use of urban White Democrats in Memphis to achieve this.
Its current governor would be Jim Hood, a Democrat, who, along with the still Democratic legislature, would be able to work to mass re-enfranchise Black people (~15% of Black Mississippians currently cannot vote). You would see the complete repeal of old Jim Crow era voting laws because of a larger Black electorate shifting the balance of power in the legislature. Instead of a blue to red realignment in the 2000s, we would’ve seen a shift from White, conservative Democratic supermajorities to smaller, yet more liberal and racially diverse Democratic majorities because of it.
I can already see Fox News using this “Greater Mississippi” and its economic struggles as an example for “how incompetently run a Black Democrat state” is, in their eyes. Tucker Carlson would start swapping out Chicago for Memphis/Jackson and California for Memphissippi in his news coverage every so often.
On the presidential level, the state and its seven electoral votes are anyone’s to win. While extremely polarized and inelastic, the winner of the state would simply come down to which party can turn out their racial demographic better. For this reason, and the following paragraph, I believe this could truly be another Obama-Trump state.
In 2020, Trump won Mississippi by around 217,000 votes. Adding Shelby county TN, he wins by 100,000 (~9% I believe). Remember, this number is with current mass Black disenfranchisement, harsh voting restrictions, and low national attention in both states. In reality, gubernatorial pardons and the overturning of voting restrictions would’ve likely added another 15% to a loyal Democratic demographic and narrowed this margin considerably. Voting would be easier, more people could and would vote, and national parties would actually give a shit about the place for once.
However, I also see racial tensions being worse in an almost racially/politically even state still mostly run by the Democratic Party. Imagine how ironic it would be to have White southern Republicans complaining about being misrepresented because of racial/partisan Gerrymandering. Memphissippi would be the reverse of every other deep Southern state, yet political tensions would feel almost the same. I think it would be a fascinating state nonetheless.
What do you think this Memphissippi state would be like? Would it be governed differently than it is now? Would it face the same problems it does today, and would new ones arise? Who do you think would hold power?

2023.06.08 19:11 Hot-Wallaby-6402 TN- Human remains (ashes in urns ⚱️) left in storage unit after auction, what do I do with them?
So I've got several properties I manage in TN and recently with the last auction we had several units that buyers left some legal paperwork and urns full of ashes in.
Now neither me nor the company have dealt with this before but we do a clause in our auction agreement that if legal paperwork, human remains, guns, and a few other things listed are found by the buyer they are required to turn that over to us for proper disposal/handling. Anyways, I've spoken to a few local funeral homes and they've told me that I can't trash the ashes because if for whatever reason years down the road someone comes looking for them I or the company could be liable for disposing of it. And on the other hand I've spoken to 2 different police departments about this and was told that I could just trash them if I've documented that I've made a reasonable effort to contact surviving relatives. Now here's the pickle, I don't know who to listen to on this and I'd really hope to not have to hire a lawyer on this.
I found my answer, someone suggested contacting the local health department, which I did. The health department told me to contact the original funeral homes on the boxes and have them try to contact the family, other than that I can't trash them or give them away I HAVE to legally store them until I can return it to someone.

2023.06.08 18:55 Ins4tiableWand3rlust Which of these univs has competent administrative offices, doesn't have ass housing, and doesn't have a lot of unenforced nightime noise?
I'm a Tennessee student. I'm at the University of Memphis and it seems like the administrative officers barely passed with a GED. Nothing against GED holders, they just circle around what their contemporaries say about due dates, likely dates important processes will be finalized, whether there's a summer payment plan, whether I can even check in to summer housing after hours (I had to sleep in my loaded car because a student worker wouldn't let me check in after hours, which was said to be allowed), etc. Everything they say gets stepped on later. The most unorganized and logically inconsistent group of adults I've encountered at my age of 26. My questions about specific financial and time-based concerns matter because I'm a near FT working student. If my residence hall is full of delinquent adult children and I'm given timeliness about things that don't go as expected, I won't have housing to live in and I won't be able to pass my classes. I'm approaching college with goals in mind and these people are basically laughing about that.
I've been to UT Chattanooga, and though it had competent admin officers, it had a really bad noise problem that went unenforced. And I had some loud roommates who my resident director just scheduled "talk it out meetings" for me and them, instead of enforcing the housing contract. I spent countless days writing emails to him to little effect. This and every other thing about college is astonishingly illogical.
I'm looking at several TN universities and out-of-state ones that count as in-state: U Central Missouri, U North Alabama, U Central Arkansas, U Georgia Southern, Tennessee Tech U., and Austin Peay U.
Which of those has competent administration, a student body that doesn't shit on your need to study and sleep, and generally has decent housing?
