I've been working on this scripting experiment all week via Halo Infinite Forge in order to bring back Noble Team from Halo Reach.
For those who don't know, Halo Infinite Forge has a built-in scripting feature where you can script the maps via a nodegraph instead of code but it is surprisingly versatile and powerful, empowering players to make many different types of scripting. The game is also the first in the franchise to introduce bots that mimic human behavior, ranging from recruit (lowest) difficulty to Spartan (highest) difficulty.
The bots themselves are incredibly smart and capable, to the point where you can actually replace the average player with a bot and they could even perform better than the players themselves. The AI is calibrated very well and in the maps you can build a nav mesh to guide the bots so they can determine where to go, etc.
They can pretty much do everything the player can except for driving. Everything else is fair game. Also, you can only have up to 8 bots per game.
I learned over time that you can actually manipulate player AI in a lot of different ways in Halo infinite forge and I have learned everything from creating custom loadouts and classes for the bots to even applying a very simple form of reinforcement learning to them. As a result, I have been able to script unique roles to the bots, such as having a stationary bot in a sniper tower providing cover fire for players or gladiator bots that only wield an energy sword and simply rush players.
Given enough practice and experience, I decided to bring back Noble Team from Halo Reach into Halo infinite Forge. I carefully designed each bot to be able to have weapons, equipment and abilities that stay true to the game and the lore in order to bring them back.
For example: Jorge, AKA Noble 5, wields a turret in Halo Reach, so I gave him a turret, made him tankier but slower and took away his ability to jump. Jun, AKA Noble 3, is the team's sniper, so I gave him the ability to reposition in real-time to a vantage point close to the team's position, which is determined by two giant cells that track the team's position across the map and placing Jun there with the sniper rifle.
The objectives of this game design are the following:
- Bring back Noble Team
- Make them recognizable
- Stay true to the lore
- Make sure they are balanced.
The problem is that the bots themselves are too powerful. However, this may have to do with the fact that I am playtesting it by myself. On the human player team, there are two bots that are given a basic loadout and I made them regroup towards the player by repositioning towards them if they move too far by calculating the average position of all players on that team in real time and repositioning the bots towards that position if they are too far from that calculated position.
So, playing by myself, it would be 3v6 but I can't do any better unless I add additional human playtesters.
Anyway, regarding the balance issue, the thing is that Noble Team actually gets upgrades every time the human team scores a point in an objective gametype, meaning their intelligence is raised by one level, up until the semi-final level (ODST) with the exception of Noble Six, who is always a Spartan difficulty bot due to lore reasons.
There are also several Traits applied, which modify playebot behavior, for example: You could have a trait that prevents bots from picking up weapons, or a trait that allows for faster reloading, extra shields, etc.
Regarding the weapons, equipment and abilities themselves, I think they stay true to Noble Team but some things are too overpowered but when I try to calibrate it they end up underpowered instead. Here's what I have so far:
Remember: the bots' abilities are divided into tiers and with each scoring the tiers go up:
Noble 1 (leader):
- tier 1: Bandit rifle, Frag Grenades
- Tier 2: Battle Rifle, Frag Grenades, Rally volume (all bots in Noble Team except for Jun spawn close to Noble 1 by spawning within a small radius from Noble 1's position.)
- Tier 3: Commando Rifle, Frag Grenades, Rally volume, Airstrike (custom equipment activated once every 30 seconds that launches a missile from the sky directly towards all players from the enemy team within the rally volume, leaving a pool of blue fire that blocks the area in the blast zone)
Noble 2 (second in command):
- Tier 1: disruptor, frag grenades
- Tier 2: Disruptor, dynamo grenades, drop wall
- Tier 3: Calcine disruptor, dynamo grenades, drop wall
Noble 3 (Jun)
Note: Jun repositions according to where the majority of the team is.
- Tier 1: Sniper rifle, no grenades, no movement.
- tier 2: Sniper rifle, no grenades, no movement, active camo, ODST difficulty
- Tier 3: Sniper rifle, no grenades, no movement, active camo, Spartan difficulty
Noble 4:
- tier 1: Bulldog shotgun, frag grenades
- Tier 2: Bulldog shotgun, frag grenades, active camo
- Tier 3: Convergence bulldog, frag grenades, active camo
Noble 5:
- tier 1: Scrap cannon, no jumping, slower movement
- tier 2: Scrap cannon, no jumping, slower movement, twice as much health, 1.50x shield capacity
- Tier 3: Machine gun turret, no jumping, slower movement, twice as much health, 1.50x shield capacity, significantly faster health/shield recovery time, headshot immunity
Noble 6:
Note: Noble Six is always Spartan difficulty no matter what. He can also pick up any weapons or equipment on the battlefield.
- tier 1: Assault rifle, frag grenades
- Tier 2: Longshot assault rifle, frag grenades, faster weapon switch
- Tier 3: Pistol, frag grenades, faster weapon switch, faster reload speed, slightly faster sprint speed, thruster pack.
You probably realized that some of these characters are overpowered but I really want the tier system to work to give a sense of challenge and progression to the game. Also, I am having issues with the bots not being easily recognizable except for Nobles 3 and 5 because I can't change their armor appearance and also because the bots are too twitchy and sweaty to feel natural.
Mainly the issue here is that despite Nobles 1, 2, and 4 consistently wielding the same weapons, it is still hard to tell them apart when they are in a cluster moving in a beeline or moving towards an objective. Noble Six is especially confusing given his flex role.
I don't know how to tell these characters apart. Should I add a way point with a letter on top or something? I'm not sure how to differentiate them further. Also, regarding the balance issue, what would you do in this case?

I am working on a Youtube Channel's avatar character, and while the general idea of the character is set and done, i need to make variations with different expressions and actions. I am not interested in a single image that dances around the screen with googly eyes showing different expressions, like whatever Game Theory does. What I have in mind is more along the lines of what Illuminaughty has, but her character has too few expressions and poses for what I want.

I want a lot of variety for my work. But at the same time I don't want to add so many that I end up being overwhelmed. And while I could add more as time progresses, I happen to have a weirdly dynamic style and i fear that further additions down the line may have shifted slightly in their aesthetics that its notisable.
And one of my strongest pet peeves is when I see a character is when they change style or quality mid transition or something. Reason why I personally hated the change Attack on Titan did when animating their titans as 3D models over continuing to use their prior animation style.
I like to keep myself consistent for as long as possible and if an opportunity arises to alter the quality of my avatar's expressions, then I would do them to all of them, not just to the new ones or just a handful of them.
So, to ask the question I came here for. What would you suggest? What expressions and actions should I make. I already have a few in mind, but there is always some that slip through my neurotic brain's cracks and i would like to cover as much of my base.

I remember in like 2012, when I couldnt buy games, that i came across a demo in Steam for a pixel art game loosely based around the Second World War (they didnt explicitly say you where fighting naz*s, but same guns, uniforms...) with isometric view. I think it was set after D Day or in Normandy in general, as it seemed to be cloudy all the time. The friendly soldiers wore green uniforms.
In the cutscenes they didnt use the isometric Styles, characters appeared on screen with pixel art waist up 2d models, not very detailed though, going more for a cartoon style.
The game had a very silly humour, I particularly remember the main character being very sarcastic.
The main area was a camp with lots of tents and soldiers going around. I recall there was a sheperd under a post yelling random lines. To the left, there was your boss' tent, which was a woman, i dont remember much else about her.
I also remember when you first start the game, your character wears rockabilly deliquent clothes, like Skinner in that episode of The Simpsons. Then, when you first enter your tent, he picks his green uniform.
To the right there was a beach full of enemies, where most of the missions took place. You could go up and down that beach, i recall there being one bunker, maybe two?
In the final mission for the demo, you raided a wharehouse, where you rescue an ally soldier wearing a green uniform and a gas mask, he didnt talk. He then becomes your partner (a joke was made about him not being "that kind of partner"). When you take him to the base, your boss tells you that shes putting you in a very dangerous and confidential mission, and then you couldnt play anymore unless you bought the game.
Ive tried to search through all my played games in Steam, as well as in the demo section, with no results. So, the game may not be in Steam anymore.
