‘Carry That Weight’
There are many Beatles songs that took shape in the recording studio different from how they were originally conceived by the composer.
For instance, John's "Come Together" was originally intended as a Chuck Berry-style rocker until it was transformed into a more subdued swampy-sounding hit song.
And Paul's tender acoustic ballad "And I Love Her" was first tried as a full band arrangement with electric guitars and drums.
However, probably the biggest transformation to a Beatles song from what the composer originally intended would be “Carry That Weight.”
In late 1968 at his St. John's Wood home in London, Paul conceived of a lighthearted, fast-moving country-and-western song entitled "Carry That Weight." This song was patterned somewhat after the Buck Owens hit "Act Naturally," which The Beatles covered on the "Help!" album
Paul envisioned writing verses that would tell a particular story of a person who, despite having a good life, fell upon trivial problems which he then blew out of proportion. Each verse would then segue into the chorus which would repeat the phrase “Boy, you're going to carry that weight, carry that weight a long time,” the main character singing the song in the first person.
“I was thinking it was a song for Ringo,” Paul said.
After demonstrating the song to the band during the Let It Be sessions on January 6, 1969 with John following along on electric guitar and sometimes joining in on vocals, Paul demonstrated what a verse might sound like even though he hadn't written any verses yet. He sings, "Well, I've been taking it personally / and I see now it wasn't done / but I can't get over the way you treat me wrong / so I've been da, da, da, da..." before mumbling contrived nonsense to give them an idea of what he has in mind.
This was a passing idea that he never saw to fruition.Instead, with Paul's inspiration for “Golden Slumbers,” he decided by the next day, January 7th, 1969, to slow down the tempo of the chorus of “Carry That Weight” and combine it with this new composition as a medley.
A recording of the rehearsals on this day shows him demonstrating the medley of these two songs on piano. The idea for what became the long “Abbey Road” medley hadn't been thought of yet.

On this day, Paul was sitting at the piano and playing the newly paired medley of “Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight” to Ringo, this medley undoubtedly being offered up for the “Let It Be” project. In the process,
Paul was explaining to Ringo his inspiration for each segment and how they were written. As captured on tape, Paul explained to Ringo how “Carry That Weight” was originally conceived:
“It's like a story. A bit like 'Act Naturally,' where a tag line keeps coming up, you know, 'so and so and so and so,' but all he said was 'act naturally.' (Paul then demonstrates a proposed indecipherable verse for “Carry That Weight” as it goes into the chorus, which Ringo sings along with.)
“It's like your troubles, but it was like a comedy when I first heard (conceived) it. (Paul demonstrates the “Carry That Weight” chorus again in his original sped-up tempo, followed by an indecipherable bridge and another chorus with Ringo singing along.)
“There was a verse about a drunkard who got drunk, got in trouble with the wife, got drunk, so and so and so and so, and 'woke up the next morning with a weight upon my head and found it WAS my head.' (They both laugh as Paul then goes into yet another spirited version of the “Carry That Weight” chorus.)
“It's sort of the normal kind of troubles that everyone has...It's one of those songs where you've got everything and you've got everything going great but, you know, 'This morning, one of my eggs broke.' It's just so trivial.” Ringo suggests “broke a mirror.” Then Paul suggests, “My right shoe is a bit tight”

I've been tinkering with a Bielsa-inspired 3-4-3 lately, and this thing's kind of a blast to play with.
The idea was to end up with a formation where you'd get a lot of attacking push from your wingbacks/wide midfielders, actually get them to tuck into the midfield in possession, and also defend the wide areas when you're off the ball. I wanted my wingers to stay fairly wide to allow inverted runs from the aforementioned wingbacks/wide midfielder hybrids. I was also fairly committed to a back 3 to make the whole thing a bit more balanced, as I'm not huge on the 'drop between defenders' instruction for CDMs.
FIFA makes this quite difficult as it seems that a) LWB/RWB simply default to overlapping regardless of the instructions, and b) turning them into LM/RM whilst also having LW/RW on the pitch gets rid of the come back on defence option for LM/RM. These will actually tuck into the midfield when you're out of possession if you set them on 'cut inside'. You get no coverage on the wing from your wide midfielders and your LCB/RCB get stretched out wide, which is a nightmare for defensive solidity.
The way to get around that is using the 4-2-3-1 narrow, which includes two wide forwards and classifies them as LAM/CAM. You can't really replicate this manually as moving these guys even slightly turns them into wide midfielders or wingers.
Rearranging the rest of the team as described in pic 2 gets around the issue of LM/RM not tracking back, as you no longer have LW/RW on the pitch. Furthermore, the CAMs do a decent job of drifting out wide, letting the LM/RM tuck in for inverted runs quite nicely. I suggest moving the LM/RM close to the CMs for ideal results.
One of the two central midfielders is set to CAM to provide even more firepower. You'll find that they'll score a nice amount of goals.
The team attacks in a 3-1-3-3 of sorts, and defends in a fairly sturdy 5-4-1 which makes this remarkably balanced. It's by no means a perfect Bielsa tactic equivalent, but it retains some of the core elements of his brand football.
The instructions are as follows:
Attack: Balanced/Direct passing; Width: 80, 7 players in the box Defence: Press on heavy touch; Width: 25; Depth 70
GK: Comes out for crosses, Sweeper Keeper
LCB/RCB: default CB: step up
LM/RM: cut inside, come back on defence, come short, get in the box for crosses, aggressive interceptions
CM: stay back while attacking, stick to position, stay on the edge of the box for crosses, cover centre
CAM: balanced defending, get into the box for crosses, free roam, aggressive interceptions
LAM/RAM: stay forward, balanced crossing runs, drift wide, aggressive interceptions
ST: stay forward, mixed attack, drift wide, aggressive interceptions
I also have an attacking gameplan where all aggressive interceptions setting are set to default and constant pressure is activated, with the depth upped to 85. It is an absolute blast to use, especially if you need a late goal. Constant pressure probably captures the ethos of these tactics best but the drain on stamina is excessive for me.
As a final note, I've been using Broma18's sliders, which nerf the AI's passing and improve user marking. This whole thing may very well fall apart defensively if using more 'punishing' settings.
