2023.05.30 14:08 UKMatt2000 Removal Failed on a deployment I only wanted to install

I deploy Revit updates via SSCM. Recently I've had reports of updates showing 'Removal Failed' in Software Center after the update has been installed, until today I wasn't able to replicate the result on one of my test machines because it doesn't make any sense. This isn't just for Revit 2022 but this is what I was able to capture.
Shown over a day after the update is installed
Showing failed, despite confirming that the original install succeeded
As you can see, we're using the old Software Center as the new one confuses users when it comes to Autodesk updates. We choose not to use the Autodesk Access app as it requires admin rights. There is no entry in the AppEnforce log as there is nothing to run!
PowerShell is used to launch the installer as it otherwise doesn't wait and fails immediately. Users need to interact with the update installer. There are no uninstall or repair commands as you can see.
Detection is purely based on the executable version, which is correct at the time of the error.
https://preview.redd.it/a9af9tc2ly2b1.jpg?width=919&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bf935c208b987b9ce001cb13d397e54ad64b3fa
Confirmed that version matches
Standard behaviour.
Basic existential requirement.
Deployed as available-install only to all client OS clients.
Can anyone shed any light on why it might be doing this? I don't mind telling people to ignore it and it can't do any harm due to the lack of uninstall command. It's just irritating. Thanks.

2023.05.30 14:06 Normal_Study Worried about overfeeding my underweight kitten

I just adopted a kitten last Saturday. She was a gift from family. When they showed her to me at first I would've sworn she was only 8 weeks old, turns out she's 4 months old. I looked at her paperwork and she's only 2.37lbs. Her litter mate died due to "failure to thrive". They checked both kittens for parasites and illness, but everything came back clean.
I'm not deathly worried about her weight, she is boney, but she's also full of spit and vinegar. And I think that's why she's so skinny, I think she's burning more calories than what she's eating. She runs and jumps until she tuckers herself out completely. The adoption center said to feed her a quarter of a can of Fancy Feast once in the morning and once at night and to have a big bowl of kibble for her to graze on throughout the day. However, she barely eats the kibble. So I've been giving her extra food; I mix kibble with the quarter of canned food, a pinch of cooked trout, and some Churu (a liquid cat treat that the shelter gave us). She eats half of it, runs off, and comes back to it to finish off. I also offer her kitten treats throughout the day.
However, I'm now wondering if I'm feeding her too much. I'm so worried about her weight, but I don't want to hurt her either. She's the first cat I've ever taken care of. ETA: the shelter warned us not to overfeed her, that's why I'm worried.

2023.05.30 13:53 tellmeitsnottaken [HELP] Lost all my bookmarks after reboot

Hey, so I sent my computer to get repaired at the ASUS repair center and they've completely rebooted my computer. I've basically lost all my bookmarks except for some? (what i have now are bookmarks that are very old, i should normally have so many more and organized in a different way. I also have bookmarks i deleted a while ago.) I looked on my hard drive and found the Bookmarks.bak file, changed it to a simple Bookmarks folder and the other one to "Bookmarks.old" (that's what i saw on the internet?) Restarted my computer and still nothing?
My bookmarks were so important to me, i had a lot of special things saved and I really need them for work. I'm really hoping there's something i can do about this
Anyways, thanks to anyone that'll help (btw English is not my first language, sorry if i'm hard to read)

2023.05.30 13:42 RVKony Our old classroom burned down, so we got together to help clean up the mess

The President smiled at us from his pedestal in the sky - there, in a distant capitol where the long angular shadows of buildings loomed over you like hungry giants. He smiled upon us with an air of enduring dignity, and the two rows of white teeth glinted on the cheap, plasticky material his portrait was printed on.
I bet his house is air-conditioned, I remember thinking to myself as the sweat on my back glued the fabric of my uniform to my skin. During the early afternoon, the stuffy homeroom classroom of my sophomore year felt like the inside of an oven - a crematorium of sorts - and smelled nearly rotten with sweat, body odor, and the excrement of the bats that dwelled in the trees of the school grounds. I went to a public school - not the well-funded, big city kind that even the rich kids went to sometimes. No, I went to a public school in a village that was mostly fields and forest, tucked away from the rest of the province behind steep hills and trees that clawed their ways up to the skies.
There were barely a thousand of us living in the village, so it came to no surprise that our school was underfunded. The single, creaking ceiling fan that tried its best to keep all thirty two of us comfortable during the equatorial summers was enough proof of that. High school - a time spent mostly praying for rain that wouldn't come the entire afternoon - is a thing of the past now. I graduated six years ago - the discomfort of humid afternoons in that classroom now survived only as the faintest shadow of a memory.
I was digging through my second plate of rice, seated before the grainy box TV in the common area of my boarding house when Sarah, an old childhood friend, called me. From ages six to sixteen, I can count on my fingers and toes the number of days when she and I didn't walk to school together. "Remember our second year classroom?" she asked me on the phone, "It burned down last week. I was wondering if you were free this weekend - they still haven't gotten around to cleaning it. Maybe we could all chip in and help get it in order again? No, the other classrooms are okay."
Looking back, it seemed as though the news barely disturbed me at all. If anything, I was annoyed at the fact that I had been interrupted in the middle of dinner. I considered the invitation, however briefly. There was nothing for me to do that weekend - I had no work. All I did was lie in my little bedroom while a fan blew hot air in my face. I didn't want to spend my weekend like that, so I agreed.
The trip from the city I worked in to the little village I grew up in was not a particularly scenic nor dramatic one. I spent most of the one-hour commute sleeping in the bus with my mouth hanging open, and when I arrived I wasn't greeted by a band of family members who were surprised, but ultimately overjoyed, to see me. I still came back home every other weekend to save up on a few meals and to gain some much-needed freedom from all the noise.
It was the arrival of Sarah, and the rest of my batch, that was met with warm smiles and open arms. Some of them hadn't been here since they were whisked off to college, and a few of them had flown back from their jobs abroad to lend their aid in our little act of charity. Meanwhile, I stood there, observing, and occasionally offered a cordial handshake or comment about how much this and that had changed.
I felt myself shrinking inwards as everybody talked about how much their lives had changed since they left our village. I can kid myself into thinking I was free - I found myself a job at a call center in the nearest city - but I was still very much a part of this awful, mind-numbingly dull village. Nobody really asked about what I did or where I worked. It was almost as if they could smell the sour, sickly rot of my stagnation - like a waterway clogged with sewage and dead rats - from miles away.
Still, the excitement of being there overpowered the self-pity that welled deep inside me, and I soon warmed up to my peers as well. We were all invited to dinner at our barangay captain's home, and one of our old teachers, Miss Lubayo - who was now married, and legally a Mrs. - came to say hello. The evening was a pleasant affair, and sleep came to me softly much later that night.
Our little "clean-up drive", as we decided to call it, started at 6:30 a.m.. We came dressed in jogging pants and long-sleeved shirts, with sun hats and several gallons of water loaded into the back of an old pickup truck. There were only fifteen of us, but we were all eager to start the task of hacking down the weeds surrounding the classroom.
Our old high school was small - if you're picturing it now, I need you to think even smaller.
It consisted of two buildings - one L-shaped main building where the shared principal's and faculty office stood in one end and the common restrooms on the other, and a smaller, newer building that was perpendicular to the school's main gate.
Separating the gate and the buildings was a small school yard - a field of unkempt carabao grass pocked with puddles of dark brown mud - where the flag pole stood right in the center.
The old classroom, the one that burned down, was in the second, smaller building, on the end farthest from the gate. Miss Lubayo tagged along, and during one of our water breaks we asked her exactly how the fire started.
"Well," she began, "do you remember Manong?" My first instinct was to ask her which one, and then I remembered that she was talking about a very specific Manong - one we all remembered. He was the old school janitor.
My first impression of him when I was twelve was that he looked so much like a tree - his arms were thin, dark branches that ended in the twigs of his knobby, rounded fingers, and his skin had the withered, leathery quality of someone who had spent his days working in the sun. I mean all of this with no prejudice, as my parents' skin had looked similar as they aged, after years of toiling for me and my siblings to live well. Our school was small, so I ran into him often. He was quiet - and moved around with the imperceptibility of a ghost - but was pretty hard to forget.
"His life has been very difficult - it's complicated and I don't think we have the time. I only heard this story from rumors - he never did tell us much about his life from the start…" she was beginning to trail off, so she pulled herself back for a moment, before continuing:
"Anyway, his life got difficult, they say. His wife died of a stroke, his son died in a motorcycle accident -"
Sympathetic Oh dears and Oh gods rose up in whispers, momentarily interrupting her, and when everyone had the chance to interject, she resumed: "He was quiet before, but then he got quieter. He stopped greeting us in the morning, stopped volunteering to do things - it's the small things, you know. We tried cheering him up - tried talking to him - but…"
He tried setting the school on fire, apparently. His nephew, who moved in with him after the death of his only family, showed up in tears to the scene of the crime the following morning. "He got drunk," he told them breathlessly, "He threatened to set the school on fire, he said he got tired of everyone minding his business. I thought he was just drunk, and raving - he's old, you see - so I got him into bed and thought he'd just fall asleep."
There was something so uncanny about finding out that the timid man who glided through the corridors with a mop and broom tried to commit arson in a drunken rage - and yet he did.
The tale ended with him disappearing - it was assumed that he ran away, and was probably wandering the next village with his eyes glazed over, his only connection to reality being the fact that his feet were on the ground.
We were all sad to hear the story, but when the shock died down fifteen minutes later, we started with our other tasks.
The charred remnants of the classroom were covered in soot, dirt, and melted plastic. Chairs lay crumbled and blackened on the floor, and flakes of burnt paper tumbled about in the breeze like feathers. We began to pick up the larger pieces of debris, tossing them into sacks as we went. It was then that I heard a dry, croaking voice from somewhere behind me - it was groaning, or mumbling something. I turned around, facing the old chalkboard. A huge crack appeared along the upper right corner, creeping down towards the center before finally ending just before the bottom frame. Whatever parts of the chalkboard hadn't been burned off looked very brittle, as if the slightest touch could send it toppling over.
The voice was faint, but I knew it came from behind the chalkboard. I hesitated, looking back to see if anyone had heard it too. Nobody seemed to - maybe it was too faint for them to hear.
I stepped a little closer, if only to hear what it was, "...may their harvest be little, and their children grow sickly. May their pockets run dry…"
More wishes for misfortune were uttered, solemnly. My breath hitched as I tried to step backwards, but the temptation of having my curiosities granted was too irresistible. Instead, my body drew nearer to the source of that demented prayer.
"May their women be barren, and their sons and daughters full of hate…" Instinctively, I dug my fingers in between the cracks of the chalkboard, and pulled the sheet of burnt wood. It gave way easily, and my heart sank to the ground.
Behind the burnt chalkboard was a frail, thin, burnt body crouched in the small crevice of the wall. It shuddered, as if still alive, its hands clasped together in prayer. The parts of it that I assumed were burnt were blackened, like coal, but the rest of it looked like it was made of wood. It looked like a tree. Then I realized -
It was Manong - whatever little flesh and fat he had was consumed by the fire, his gray hair nothing more but wisps of white on top of his charred head. His prayer came to an end. He muttered an amen as he looked up at me, through jaundiced yellow eyes, and for a moment I felt myself drowning into the vast emptiness of his irises. I tried to breathe, but choked on the air, and fell back, landing on my backside with a hollow, aching thump. From the looks of it, he set the classroom on fire, and tried to burn himself with it too.
When everyone gathered around to ask if I was alright - to see if I was hurt - I could only feel a bubbling hatred rising up my throat - for them, for Miss Lubayo, for the rest of this godforsaken village that would never leave me alone or mind my own business.
*May their sons and daughters grow full of hate…* Would you believe me if I told you that I could still smell damp, burnt wood in my room at night? When I closed my eyes, those deep black eyes with its yellow sclera still leered down at me.
I can sense him creeping behind the thin walls of my bedroom. It grows hotter every night - maybe his fire is drawing nearer.

2023.05.30 13:39 livelaughvomit Adult pigeon stopped caring for its baby, what should I do?

Adult pigeon stopped caring for its baby, what should I do?
Pigeons made a nest on my balcony (I don't know when, I only noticed it when the adult was sitting on its eggs). There were two babies and the adult pigeon fed them etc.
Two days ago, I noticed that the adult stopped caring for them that much. Yesterday the adult kept walking around the nest but was always leaving. I got the chance to look at the babies (I didn't touch them) and discovered that one baby was way bigger than the other (the other was very small and still all yellow). I took a closer look and it turned out that the small baby was dead.
I removed it from the nest (didn't touch the bigger baby) in hopes the adult pigeon would come back and care for it and also I didn't want the bigger one to get sick). Today I saw the adult walking around the nest but then it flew away.
So probably I'll need to care for that baby. That's where I need your help. In my country there's no wildlife center and vets won't take it. So, my questions are:
  1. How old is the baby?
  2. Can it eat on its own or do I need to feed it?
  3. If I need to feed it, all I have are oats, barley, millet and sunflower seeds. Is that okay? I've looked for bird food but it looks like everything is for adult pigeons and is expensive.
  4. How do I even feed it and how do I give it water?
  5. Is it okay if I take it home and put it in a (open) box?
  6. Is there anything else I should I do?

A new comedy by A24 is coming our way this summer! You Hurt My Feelings was written, directed, and produced by Nicole Holofcener. The film is also produced by Anthony Bregman, Stefanie Azpiazu, and Julia Louis-Dreyfu.

Romantic comedies are always about finding your true love, but Nicole Holofcener has stood out in her career because her movies often focus on the struggles of maintaining or rediscovering love later in life. That once again looks to be the case in her new movie, You Hurt My Feelings, where she teams up with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

While the movie is written and directed by Holofcener, it also has another big name in Hollywood right now behind it — studio A24. The producedistributor has long been known for its acclaimed entries that offer something different than the typical superhero/franchise fare of many other Hollywood studios. A24 has been on a particularly hot streak of late, with its 2022 movie Everything Everywhere All at Once winning Best Picture, as well as a slew of other movies earning awards and strong box office numbers. Will You Hurt My Feelings keep that momentum going?

Already intrigued? We know you are, and we also know you're wondering how you can watch and stream You Hurt My Feelings from the comfort of your own home. Luckily, we did some research and have an idea of when this will happen.

Fasten your seatbelt, because here's where you can watch and stream You Hurt My Feelings online.

You Hurt My Feelings release date
After premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in January, You Hurt My Feelings arrives in theaters for US audiences on May 26, which is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend.

The comedy is going to be an alternative to the usual summer blockbuster fare, including in its opening weekend, going up against The Little Mermaid and the broad comedy About My Father.

You Hurt My Feelings is also just one of many A24 movies set to come out in 2023, joining Beau Is Afraid, Past Lives and Talk to Me.

Where To Watch You Hurt My Feelings:
As of now, the only way to watch You Hurt My Feelings is to head out to a movie theater when it releases on Friday, May 26. You can find local shows on Fandango, IMAX, Regal, AMC Theatres, Cinemark, Cineplex, Landmark Theatres, Alamo Drafthouse and Harkins Theatres.

Watch Now: You Hurt My Feelings (2023) Online Free

Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Paramount, Vudu, YouTube and Apple, or become available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Is You Hurt My Feelings streaming?
No, You Hurt My Feelings isn’t streaming right now. It is exclusively available in cinemas after its wide theatrical release on May 26, 2023.

Since A24 is set to share a digital release date, we can only speculate as to when it may be available to watch at home.

Looking at Aster’s previous movies, both of which were also backed by A24, Hereditary had a wide theatrical release on June 8, 2018, while it became available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video and other platforms on August 21, 2018.

Meanwhile, the director’s cut of Midsommar dropped in cinemas on August 30, 2019, before streaming on September 24, 2019.

Aside from Aster’s projects, A24’s Oscar-winning hits Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Whale had a wide theatrical release on April 8, 2022, and December 21, 2022, respectively.

The Michelle Yeoh-starring movie became available for streaming on June 7, 2022, while the Brendan Fraser-led drama didn’t come out until March 14, 2023.

If you put all of these together, this averages out to just under two months – but it’s likely set to follow Aster’s previous flicks, meaning the wait might not be quite so long. We’ll be sure to keep you posted when updates roll in.

Is You Hurt My Feelings Streaming on HBO Max?
No, You Hurt My Feelings will not be on HBO Max since it is not a Warner Bros. movie. Last year, the company dropped its movies on the streamer the same day they premiered in theaters. However, they have since stopped and like many others, started allowing a 45-day window between the theatrical debut and the streaming release.

Is You Hurt My Feelings on Netflix?
No, You Hurt My Feelings will not be on Netflix. However, it is possible that it will make it to the streaming giant eventually seeing as it’s home to other A24 movies like Uncut Gems. Until then, you’ll just have to head out to theaters or wait until it becomes available on digital.

Is You Hurt My Feelings Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie You Hurt My Feelings on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

Is You Hurt My Feelings on Amazon Prime?
We hate to tell you that ‘You Hurt My Feelings’ is not included in Amazon Prime’s library. But you can still make the most of your subscription by turning to other alternatives that the streaming giant houses, such as ‘Prisoner X‘ and ‘The Prison.’

When Will You Hurt My Feelings Be on DVD and Blu-ray?
As of now, there is no set date last to when You Hurt My Feelings will be available on Blu-ray and DVD, but we'll keep you updated once we know more about when the film will be available on physical media.

How to Watch You Hurt My Feelings Online For Free?
Most Viewed, Most Favorite, Top Rating, Top IMDb movies online. Here we can download and watch 123movies movies offline. 123Movies website is the best alternative to You Hurt My Feelings (2023) free online. We will recommend 123Movies is the best Solarmovie alternatives.

There are a few ways to watch You Hurt My Feelings online in the U.S. You can use a streaming service such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. You can also rent or buy the movie on iTunes or Google Play. You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable.

You Hurt My Feelings cast
Julia Louis-Dreyfus headlines You Hurt My Feelings as novelist Beth. This is a reunion for Louis-Dreyfus and Holofcener, as the two previously worked together on the 2013 movie Enough Said. Of course, Louis-Dreyfus is best known for her TV roles as Elaine on Seinfeld and Selina Meyer on Veep, but she has also starred in The New Adventures of Old Christine, Downhill, You People and has a recurring role in the MCU as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

Playing Beth's husband Don is Tobias Menzies. Many viewers will likely know Menzies from either his role as Prince Philip for two seasons on The Crown or in Outlander, though he has also appeared in big-name shows like Game of Thrones, Rome and The Terror.

Other members of the You Hurt My Feelings cast include Michaela Watkins (Enlightened) as Beth's sister Sarah, Owen Teague (Mrs. Fletcher) as Beth's son Elliot, Arian Moyaed (Succession) as Sarah's husband Mark and Jeannie Berlin (Succession) as Beth's mother Georgia. Also appearing in the movie are David Cross, Amber Tamblyn, Zach Cherry, LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Sarah Steele.

What Is You Hurt My Feelings About?
Nicole Holofcener has distinguished herself in her career by centering many of her works that deal with the challenges of sustaining or rediscovering love in later life. This appears to be the same situation for You Hurt My Feelings which tells the story of a woman and her husband, focusing on their relationship over the years. The couple’s apparent happy life takes a hit when their little white lies are revealed to each other.

A quick trip in the Old Quebec (Quebec City/Canada).
I'm starting to get a hang of it! I shot this in the Old Quebec City with the Ricoh GR IIIx. P Mode, exposed using the Highlights weighted metering center auto-focus. Positive Film as a base and minor corrections in Lightroom.

2023.05.30 12:48 scribbyshollow Did the ancient Egyptians, Aztecs and ancient chinese peoples have a shared art known as feng shui in the east and geomancy in the west and new world?

I came across a big similarity when reading up about several ancient unconnected cultures and their mythologies. A general story that seems to be an allegory for an old divination technique known as the geomantic act. It seems as if several of these stories about the creation of the first temples/sacred structures/the world are describing a localized version of the same story. I wanted to know some professional opinions on it because personally it think it has finally made sense of these strange mythologies.
I did not write this it was taken from an article I have been reading on an unrelated subject.
"So if all these distant civilizations shared the same ancient culture or started out from the same sort of mother culture then surely there would be some evidence left of it right? I thought so too so I spent a considerable amount of time looking for connections that would be too specific to ignore or pass off as coincidence. Finally after years of searching I found them.
The main one, and what this section is about is a shared cultural art between ancient China, South America and Ancient Egypt. This art is known as geomancy and in China it is known as Feng Shui, each one of these places I just mentioned contain huge pyramids within their borders and both Egypt and the south American cultures have a very similar story of creation that seems to be an allegory for what they call the "geomantic act". A divination technique used to build temples and buildings in the exact right spot (according to the practitioners of it).
This section from the following book details exactly what that is.
Secret Games of the Gods pages: https://imgur.com/gallery/R3EdoJk
I will summarize it but you should actually take the time to read it as it is only a few pages.
The actual geomantic act is divining a place using the four directions to pick the right location, then once found stabbing a sword, stake or metal wedge into the ground at the exact center of the planned building, usually there is something done to consecrate this center which they call the navel of the structure. Another way to view it (like the above book says) is a hero slaying a dragon or serpent with the aid of four warriors/weapons/deities then building a holy structure on the place the monster was killed. This is how they represent the act in allegorical form in the European version of it.
For the Egyptian mythology I have posted a scan of a very rare book that details the first published translations of the Edfu Temple in Egypt. As the title indicates it details the mythological origin of the first temple that appeared on earth according to the oldest Egyptian records we had found as of 1969 (when the book was published). The very borders of Prehistory.
You can download it here - https://archive.org/details/0_20220129_202201
or read it here.
https://unifyingtheory.blogspot.com/2022/01/the-mythological-origin-of-egyptian.html
The objective story the Aztec/Olmec/Mayan/Inca (I am unsure who originated them, I am not a historian) and Egyptian creation myth (according to the Edfu Texts) begin with a world of darkness with no land, only sky and water and a god who lives there, then the god one way or another creates the first world/land which is an island, and the first people, eventually fighting ensues, then because of the fighting the earth is engulfed by water or the island disappears (same thing when you are the only land). Then from this water the new world rises and is rebuilt in the old worlds image from the "bones" of the old world.
Now that story could be shrugged off as mere coincidence I suppose, However...Later in these stories of creation another identical event happens. In the Egyptian and Aztec myths a hero or creator god and group of 4 gods, protectors or warriors represented by four animals and four directions. Do battle with a serpent type monster that always represents chaos. They win this fight and slay the monster and then on the spot it was slain build a sacred temple.
What I just described to you seems to be another allegory used in other cultures for what they call the geomantic act, a local adaptation of it.
The following are pages from the Edfu translation book I linked:
-Page 35 in the book is the summery of the fight. A fight between a serpent and a hawk and his four protectors who represent the four directions. Just as the book "Secret Games of the Gods" described the geomantic act, using the four directions the "hero" would slay the "dragon" and build on the spot it was slayed.
-Page 196 details it. It should also be noted that Tanen became Ptah-Tatenen who was the god of creation and temple building. The page below also clarifies that the sacred place would be built where the snake enemy was slayed.
-Page 324 is the overall summery of the book and outlines the new world made from the bones of a dead god.
Here is the link to those pages: https://imgur.com/gallery/06dMHH1
-Page 297 states the earth god which is found to actually represent earth said to have a “Ka” (spirit) and the earths “Ka” being present was the perquisite for building these temples. So the earths energy had to be present at these sites for building and then once the temple was made it had to be activated by joining with the earths Ka.
Also of note these 4 animals from the Edfu texts also turn up in the book “The Secret Teachings of All Ages” written in 1923 a few decades before the Edfu texts were even translated.
Page 296 and the pages from "the secret teachings of all ages": https://imgur.com/gallery/Wydaz6m
This fits the geomantic act because it also is using natural energy to pick a location for a sacred building (according to the practitioners of it).
A good summery but I recommend reading the entire book because it has many details not covered in the summery. Now there are several creation myths from the Aztecs but we are only going to go over the relevant one.
You can read more about them here:
https://aztec-religion-ee.weebly.com/creation-myth.html
This story of creations shares many similarities with the story laid out in the Edfu temple and seems to also be an allegory for the geomantic act.
"In the beginning was the void. It was at some ancient time in the Aztec creation story that the dual god, Ometecuhtli/Omecihuatl, created itself. (Looking back, of course, the Aztecs believed that the many opposites that they saw in the world would have to somehow unite in the origin of the world.) This god was good and bad, chaos and order, male and female. Being male and female, it was able to have children. It had four, which came to represent the four directions of north, south, east and west. The gods were Huizilopochtli (south), Quetzalcoatl (east), Tezcatlipoca (west), and Xipe Totec (north).
The directions were very important to the Aztecs, since their great empire was believed to be at the very center of the universe (remember what I mentioned about the Aztec creation story being political?).
These four gods began to create. They created water, and other gods, and the sea monster Cipactli. Cipactli was part fish and part crocodile, a massive creature as big as all things that now are. This was a consuming monster, a jaw at every joint. Cipactli was to become the source of the cosmos in a strange way.
As the gods continued to create, they had a problem — their creations would fall into the water and be eaten by the dreadful Cipactli. So it was time for war — the four gods attacked the sea monster, pulling her in four directions. She fought back, biting Tezcatlipoca and tearing off his foot. But at last Cipactli was destroyed.
From this enormous creature the universe was created (in some traditions this happened between the last two suns). All the 13 heavens stretch into her head. The earth was created in the middle, and her tail reaches down to the underworld (Mictlán) (nine underworlds, to be exact).
You could say that in the Aztec creation story the world is on the back of this sea monster, floating in the water of space (reminiscent of the Iroquois belief that the world rests on the back of a turtle).”
http://www.aztec-history.com/aztec-creation-story.html
So according to the above story of creation the Aztecs thought that their land was on the back of a serpent type dragon monster that was killed by four gods by stretching it in the four directions. It actually had many similarities with the geomantic act and its purpose laid out in Secret Games of the Gods. That book also said the purpose of the act was to control the "serpent" in the earth and stop its chaos from destroying the building.
Now its pretty hard to dismiss those stories as mere coincidence, those stories are seemingly localized versions of what is known as the “serpent slaying myth” in indo-european culture. A story that is told and was told in cultures the world over in various localized versions in a time when they had no communication or even knew each other existed. As we saw in the Edfu temple book even the ancient Egyptians had this myth and practice of geomancy.
The following article covers this myth pretty well but as always do your own research and dig deeper and look for more credible sources.
https://shivnu.blogspot.com/2023/02/the-proto-indo-european-serpent-slaying.html
Later in these stories of creation identical events happen. In the Egyptian and Aztec myths a group of 4 gods or protectors, warriors or gods represented by 4 animals and also the 4 directions. Do battle with a serpent type monster that represents chaos in all the stories. They win this fight and slay the monster and then on the spot it was slain build a sacred temple.
These animals are in the Edfu myth Snake, Lion, Bull and hawk. They are the 4 guardians that protect “The Falcon” in its fight against a great “snake”.
in the Aztec myth this scenario also plays out but they are gods who animal incarnations or representations are “plummed serpent” (implying a feathered or flying snake), Jaguar, hummingbird, and a god that has no definite form and takes many forms and is the god of warfare.
in the Aztec myth the gods also represent directions. The 4 Aztec directional gods have aspects of the 4 guardian animals. Not the exact same animals mind you but the overall same animals (snake, bird, big cat, formless/unsure)
(I should note that I was unable to narrow down if these are the actual directions they represent because I came across several conflicting sources. However its the overall general story that is important and not the specifics as they would be adapted anyway)
-Huitzilopochtli (pron. Huit-zi-lo-pocht-li) or ‘Hummingbird of the South’ or ‘Blue Hummingbird (bird)
https://www.worldhistory.org/Huitzilopochtli/
-Quetzalcóatl (pron. Quet-zal-co-at) or 'Plumed Serpent' (snake or dragon)
https://www.worldhistory.org/Quetzalcoatl/
-Tezcatlipoca’s nagual, or animal disguise, was the jaguar, the spotted skin of which was compared to the starry sky. A creator god, Tezcatlipoca ruled over Ocelotonatiuh (“Jaguar-Sun”), the first of the four worlds that were created and destroyed before the present universe. (Cat)
https://www.worldhistory.org/Tezcatlipoca/
-Xipe Totec has a controversial history, some people think that the god replaced an earlier god from the story, I could find no credible source about his animal form or direction (though only north is left) however, He is the inventor of war according to the Aztec mythology so that lines up with the Chinese feng shui direction (we will get to this in a moment) of north being the tortoise or "black warrior" (Warrior)
https://www.worldhistory.org/Xipe_Totec/
In the Aztec myth the 4 gods do battle with a "serpent/fish", they slay it by ripping it apart in the 4 directions then build from its body on the spot it was slain their world/empire. That is objectively the same story from the book I linked with 3 out of the 4 animal guardians being the same.
Now these animals turn up in one other place with pyramids within its borders. China and Taoism, specifically the 4 animals that represent the 4 directions often associated with the ancient art of Feng Shui which in actuality is the Chinese art of geomancy.
In feng shui the four directions are represented by 3 out of the 4 are the same kind of animals. The entire art of it is about choosing the right location to build things using divination.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Symbols
“The Four Symbols (Chinese: 四象; pinyin: Sì Xiàng, literally meaning “four images”), are four mythological creatures appearing among the Chinese constellations along the ecliptic, and viewed as the guardians of the four cardinal directions. These four creatures are also referred to by a variety of other names, including “Four Guardians”, “Four Gods”, and “Four Auspicious Beasts”. They are the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermilion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise (also called “Black Warrior”) of the North. Each of the creatures is most closely associated with a cardinal direction and a color, but also additionally represents other aspects, including a season of the year, an emotion, virtue, and one of the Chinese “five elements” (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water). Each has been given its own individual traits, origin story and a reason for being. Symbolically, and as part of spiritual and religious belief and meaning, these creatures have been culturally important across countries in the East Asian cultural sphere.”
Not only that but the directions in Aztec mythology are represented by the same color pallet as the Chinese four guardians Black, white, blue and red. Only north and west line up with being the same color and same direction but all the colors are the same.
“The god could be depicted in different colours depending on which cardinal point he was representing — black for north, blue for south, red for east and white for west.”
3 out of 4 creatures match the Aztec and Egyptian mythology and they are all referred to as guardians or gods. The one odd guardian/direction out is the tortoise replacing the bull but interestingly enough the tortoise is also called the black warrior and Xipe Toltec (formless/many formed god) the Aztec god of the north is also the god of warfare. They are also the only animal/god/directions with unsure names or forms which in itself is a link in common all three versions have. Perhaps it was called a different name in the past.
The “plummed serpent” sounds like a spot on interpretation of a Chinese dragon, depicted as flying snakes often with feathers.
Explanation: https://wallpaperaccess.com/ancient-chinese-dragon
Also worth mentioning is the calendar similarities between some of these cultures. The following is a fantastic outline and demonstration of the similarities.
https://mormonuniversalism.com/11680/the-aztec-mayan-calendar-its-similarities-to-the-hebrew-biblical-calendar-and-book-of-mormon-dates/
There is undoubtedly a connection here. The beginning of the earth from the various cultures being the same objective story could easily be dismissed as coincidence. The same 4 animals representing in some cases the same directions and originating from the same scenario which is then used to pick the spot to build a holy place or building however cannot be dismissed so easily and I think is incredible evidence that a shared or "mother" culture existed between them. That all three cultures would also contain within their territory pyramids is also to hard to dismiss as a coincidence with all of this evidence laid out.

6 Creative Ways To Keep Your Dog Active

https://preview.redd.it/nbjkoh8rgz2b1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=280908f14c3386e62866329b6904804aa62001e4
Hey dog lovers! If you haven’t realized the importance of exercise for your dog, it’s time to hop on the bandwagon. Dogs are like humans – if they can’t get out to walk around, stretch and get some fresh air a few times a day, they tend to get restless, cranky or depressed. You’ll notice a huge difference in your pup’s moods if you start working a little regular exercise into their daily routine. Here are a few good ways to make sure your pooch is getting all the exercise he or she needs!
Dog Daycare Taking your dog to doggie daycare is an excellent way to get them physical as well as mental stimulation. The constant activity, movement and interaction with other dogs gives them a great daily dose of fun physical activity. The best dog daycare facilities have large play areas with interactive ramps, bridges or other structures which give your dog an additional outlet for play and fun. In addition, a facility that offers both indoor and outdoor play areas or play time is essential. Off leash play is always best, just going on periodic walks in a daycare environment is not enough activity to burn those calories and ensure maximum fun so look for a facility that has a large yard or open space for indoor and outdoor activities.
Daily Walks You’re already taking Fido out for a potty break a few times a day why not put on your jogging shoes and turn these times into exercise for you both? Instead of just walking to the corner and back, take your dog for a few loops around the block. Better yet, walk him or her somewhere new every day. There must be areas of your town or city that you haven’t explored yet what a great excuse to go on an adventure. If it’s cold out, be sure to dress warm and get a sense of whether or not your dog could use a jacket they can get chilly too. If you feel up to it, you can even alternate jogging and walking alongside your dog this will give them the impression they’re running free, which all dogs love to do.
Dog Parks On top of daily walks and dog daycare, the local dog park is always a fun and social event for your dog. Most parks are fenced in and give dogs enough room to roam freely. They’ll love the opportunity to socialize with others pups.
Aqua Parks Pools and aqua fun is the latest trend in dog daycare, fun and fitness. Top rated dog daycare and wellness centers offer pools for both fun and aqua exercise and even therapy. Old dogs, young dogs and every age in between will enjoy a cool dip or romp in the pool. Just like in human, aqua exercise uses many muscle groups, burns calories and offers a different and fun method of exercise.
Tricks Teaching your dog tricks in your own house or backyard can be great exercise for them! If you have a dog breed that’s well-equipped to learn tricks, like a poodle, you can teach them to jump through hoops, shake hands, fetch or any number of tricks that requires them to physically exert themselves in some way. Just make sure that the amount of treats they get doesn’t overshadow the amount of work they’re doing or the exercise portion or these activities won’t be doing its job!
Toys at Home Whether your dog is good at learning tricks or not, you can always get them to romp and play at home with just a few dog toys. Or get a soft indoor ball that you can toss across the floor and have them chase or retrieve. While you don’t want them tearing through the house and knocking things over, you can still play games at home that will get their heart rate up and also offer fun bonding time for the two of you.
Remember, ideally you want your dog to have at least 45 – 60 minutes of play and exercise per day and more if your dog is under the age of 5. Be sure to check with your vet to make sure your dog is at the appropriate weight and doesn’t have any health problems that need to be addressed. In certain cases, vets will recommend a little more or a little less exercise for pups depending on their individual needs. Help your pooch to be the happiest and healthiest he or she can possibly be!
Very Important Paws offers hours of play in our daycare, we separate our guests by size and temperament with 4 separate play areas- Puppies, Small, Medium and Large. Each area has tunnel, ramp and stairs play equipment along with fresh filtered water, and an attendant supervising play. Our dog guests go out to our double fenced backyard area every 2 hours throughout the day ensuring they get plenty of fresh air and stimulation. A tired dog is a healthy and well behaved dog!

2023.05.30 11:24 SirBackground5611 Recovering an account with phone number or Instagram after email was lost?

So I recently got a new phone and can't access my Facebook account. I still have access to my Instagram that is linked to it and the phone number linked to the account, but my number isn't a recovery option. The email it sends the code for reset is over a decade old and has been deleted for inactivity. Is there any way to regain access to my account using instagram or my phone number or any other verification methods?
I've tried using a different account to recover it, but the help center just sends me back to the same option page to get a code sent to that old email. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

2023.05.30 11:08 SimbaSixThree Shakespeare parallels each season

Now that the show has wrapped up (quite brilliantly I might add) I feel the need to write something about this amazing show. Over the last couple of weeks I have rewatched the entirety of the show with a certain goal: finding the exact parallels to Shakespeare to compare each season to one story.
Of course, many of the Shakespeare parallels have already been mentioned, but I have not seen it being dissected per season yet. I must mention that, throughout the show, many aspects are expanded upon meaning that a lot of the themes are not purely seasonal, but I feel like each season has it's clear, overarching Shakespearean influence that it was based on.
(Disclaimer: This was just a fun thought exercise and my own opinions. If you don't agree with certain aspects I would love to discuss further in the comments. Maybe I glossed over some stories and other similarities, maybe I looked to much into others.)
Season 1: King Lear
The first and possibly most obvious one. In "King Lear," the aging monarch divides his kingdom among his three children (daughters in the story), based on their professions of love. After the heart attack, the scene has been set and Logan's children start vying for the proverbial throne. The power dynamics shift as the king (Logan) alternates his favor between his children, this being a direct reflection of the changing fortunes of the siblings in "King Lear."
More parallels in later seasons:
Season 2: Macbeth
This to me is where the hubris and ambition starts taking center stage. The relentless pursuit of power is, of course, one of the main themes going forward, but this is the season where it get cemented. Just like in "Macbeth", the characters will stop at nothing to claim the throne, sabotaging each other along the way, which echoes the ruthless ambition and scheming found in most Shakespearean tragedies but most prominently in "Macbeth".
More parallels in other seasons:
Season 3: Hamlet
A foreign, Scandinavian monarch (Fortinbras) enters who stakes his claim to the kingdom. If that doesn't scream Mattson (and season 3) then I don't know what does. Both Fortinbras and Mattson seek to take over the throne, capitalizing on the chaos and power vacuum caused by the death of the old king.
More parallels in other seasons:
Season 4: Richard III
This has been mentioned so often (even by Jeremy Strong) and is of course the clear winner for this season. In "Richard III," multiple contenders (Richard, Buckingham, Richmond etc) vie for the throne, but in the end, Richard's downfall is a result of his own ruthless ambition. Ultimately, Shiv accepting that she will not wear the crown and thus instead plays a pivotal role in determining the successor, playing kingmaker if you want, is also a direct parallel to Margaret who manipulates events to undermine Richard's ascent to power. Finally, the siblings' inability to overcome their feud and work together leads to their downfall. This destructive family conflict is directly mirrored. (Fun bonus: I need to watch the last episode again to see if a date is shown anywhere, but how awesome would it be if the final episode took place on October 30th, the date that Henry VII was crowned?)
Closing remarks
There are of course many many other parallels that I have not touched upon. Also, the stories that I mention here are also the most prominent that I could recollect and I have not read everything that Shakespeare has written so I have obviously missed some.
Please let me know if there are any HUGE oversights that I have had or if you don't agree? This was a fun little exercise to get back into reading Shakespeare as well as watch the show again.

TL;DR: Season 1 = King Lear, Season 2 = Macbeth, Season 3 = Hamlet, Season 4 = Richard III.

2023.05.30 10:55 itsallalittleblurry Private Club

Watched an old Richard Pryor bit about the Mafia just now, and it reminded me of the time I accidentally met some.
They were active in the City. Not necessarily the Italian Mafia of Godfather fame, but organized crime. It was known that various businesses were run by them. Legit businesses, but they had ways of making more money off of them than a legit business should provide. One was shorting the pay of employees. On the books, a guy would be getting paid X amount of dollars an hour. But he would actually be taking home less than that. His employers would pocket the rest. Who were they going to complain to, especially when they were people with few other options who were just glad to have the job? Just one dodge among many.
And of course, less legal enterprises.
I was treating myself to a rare solitary night out, and had been meaning to go check out one particular club that had caught my eye previously. It looked like it might be a nice place to have a few drinks. Not a big place, and not ostentatious. Sat alone by itself. Nice, quiet-looking bar where you could relax for a while, maybe listen to some music.
There was no one on the door, so I just walked in. The place wasn’t brightly lit. Not dark, but a little dim. And I stopped not far inside the doorway. I realized that the flow of conversation I’d heard upon entering had suddenly ceased. The dancer on the lone small stage in the center of the large room had stopped her desultory, seemingly bored movements. She was a bit of a surprise herself. Older than you might expect; maybe in her forties, but not unattractive. Hair too blonde to probably be real. A little heavyset.
She stood there now, just staring at me. The low-key music she’d been moving to went on for less than a minute more, then cut off. Don’t know if someone had unplugged a jukebox, or what.
And glancing around, I realized everyone else in the place was quietly staring at me, too.
Not too many people there. Mostly middle-aged or slightly older white men, who seemed to run mostly to hefty with various degrees of beer belly. Almost a uniform of jeans, athletic shoes, and short-sleeved button-up shirts.
Younger men sitting more or less hovering around the older ones.
No conversation now at all. No one asking me anything or saying anything. Everyone in the now-quiet place just sitting and staring.
Ever be in a place and get the strong feeling that you’re not welcome, and maybe shouldn’t be there?
So I turned and quietly left just as easily as I’d come in. Exiting the door, I heard the music start up again. Strange place.
I mentioned it to one of the guys on our crew at work on Monday morning:
“What did you say the name of the place was?”
I told him, and he had this advice: “Dude, don’t Ever go there again. Felt like you weren’t welcome? No shit. That’s a mob joint. You don’t go there unless you’re invited. You Are invited, even more reason not to go. Stay away from it.”

2023.05.30 10:35 linzdeva What are the basic Flavour of wine?

What are the basic Flavour of wine?
The wine exhibits a wide range of flavors, which can vary depending on factors such as grape variety, winemaking techniques, terroir (environmental factors that influence grape growth), and aging processes. Here are some of the basic flavors commonly found in wine:
https://preview.redd.it/ttxio3i7kx2b1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16789f20499c8908dc14f8156e5ab2cb3933edd7
  1. Fruity: Many wines feature fruit flavors, which can range from fresh and bright to ripe and jammy. Common fruity flavors in wine include citrus (lemon, lime), orchard fruits (apple, pear), stone fruits (peach, apricot), berries (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry), and tropical fruits (pineapple, mango).
  2. Floral: Some wines exhibit floral aromas and flavors, reminiscent of various flowers. Examples include rose, violet, lavender, jasmine, and elderflower. Floral notes are often found in aromatic white wines such as Gewürztraminer and Muscat.
  3. Herbal and Spicy: Herbal and spicy flavors can add complexity to the wine. They can range from subtle herbaceous notes like thyme, basil, or mint to more pronounced spicy characteristics such as black pepper, clove, cinnamon, or anise. These flavors are often found in red wines like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache.
  4. Earthy: Earthy flavors reflect the characteristics of the soil and terroir where the grapes are grown. They can include aromas of mushrooms, forest floor, truffles, or damp earth. Earthy notes are commonly associated with wines such as Pinot Noir and certain Old World wines.

2023.05.30 10:13 maximusaemilius Humans are way harder to kill with poison than one might think...

Another galactic summit, more issues to deal with, and more problems to discuss, not the largest being the Burg war, and the attack on earth. Though it had been thwarted by the planet's natural hellish landscape, there were still discussions to be made about whether the Rundi and the Vrul would help to provide a defense Nexus to the remaining planets. As well as disaster relief on the Gromm home world.
The GA summit chambers at the Rundi home world were, once again, rife with alien lifeforms. It was also, once again, rife with Rundi underlings who were trying very hard not to freak out with all the duties that were being placed on their backs.
At least one thing was made clear this time, there was no point in getting human food for the summit, since the human delegates always insisted on trying all the other alien food. Leave enough of the nectar orbs from the Drev home world out, and that seemed to keep the humans happy enough.
Dr. Krill accompanied the commander into the summit, as was usual.
Sunny was not with them today, seeing as she had work to do back aboard the ship.
That left just the two of them.
Felt almost like old times.
The captain was dressed up in his fancy UNSC uniform, and as such, he was obligated to behave.
Apparently behaving didn't mean avoiding arguments with his most important doctor, who –despite being a complete genius– was hardly capable of getting the captain to agree with him.
"I just think that there should be better security at these things. All of the most important people in the galaxy are here."
"Krill, there is an entire armada outside, I hardly think we need to worry about being attacked by the Burg. Besides, their attack on earth completely broke their spirits and they have retreated back to their own space. We haven’t heard anything from them in a month now… There is no way they would try getting in here."
Krill crossed both sets of arms,
"I disagree, commander. I have been looking into human history of warfare, and I think that a spy could easily-"
*"Krill calm down will you. Besides, spies rely on the fact that you can disguise yourself to look like the other side. The Burg are so fugly that they'd be noticed in half an instant.
They came around the corner, and the commander was nearly knocked onto his back as an Iotin brushed past, hurrying from the banquet hall.
The commander tripped back into a wall,
"Woah watch... yourself."
The Iotin disappeared around the next corner, and the commander looked after him with a frown.
"Didn't know those guys could move that fast. Wonder why he could be in such a hurry?”
Krill waved it off as the commander poked his head into the banquet room,
"Oh look, pink orbs!"
"Commander, don't you think we should wait until after the summit, when the food is being served?”
The man waved a hand,
"Oh no one will notice one or two of them missing."
He quickly snuck into the room and Krill rolled his eyes as the man came out munching on one of the pink fruits.
”Maybe three? I mean four orb fruits are not much right?”
"And they made you leader of the fleet?”
"Yes. Also that means I deserve at least five orb fruit… Also, technically they are thinking of making me leader of the entire Galactic armada, but I digress."
"Lord help us all."
The captain made a face.
"What? It's true!”
The man shook his head.
"No, not you, this fruit tastes... Weird."
"Good weird or bad weird?”
He shrugged and took another bite.
"Weird… but not bad enough for me to stop eating it, so good weird I guess?”
He stuffed the rest of the orb into his mouth and licked the juices off his fingers.
Krill sighed,
"I still can't believe they would choose you."
"Better believe it."
The two of them walked into the main conference chamber to sit down with the other delegates. The human delegation was near the top tier, and so that is where they went, taking a seat just to the right of the Rundi chairwoman's box.
The entire room was alive with the sound of alien life.
Commander Vir leaned over to speak with one of the delegates and Krill was left to watch the room.
Most of the delegations were here, though the Iotin delegation had arrived late. Seemed strange considering he had seen one of their number not long ago.
The light dimmed a couple of times, and the chairwoman took her pedestal and began to greet the delegates. Krill looked on politely as was his want, though he wasn't entirely interested in the whole thing.
The charwoman could be rather long-winded when she got going.
He sat there through a good few minutes of it, glancing over at the other human delegates on occasion. Vir looked almost sleepy, though that was almost to be expected, he was never very good at politics, even though he was involved in them so much.
He turned back to the delegation.
The commander shifted uncomfortably in his seat during a discussion about intergalactic trade laws, and Krill looked over again.
The man had taken to licking his lips repeatedly.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah fine, just thirsty."
He muttered, Krill let it go, though something made him turn back not to long after. The human was rubbing at his mouth, which appeared red, though he supposed that was supposed to be expected. Little lines of sweat were trickling down from his hairline.
He scooted a bit closer.
"Commander, are you feeling alright?”
He was waved off,
"Yeah, I'm ok, it just got a little hot in here as all... Feeling kind of... Faint. Maybe a little nauseous. I am sure I'll be fine. Probably just need something to eat."
The talks continued, but Krill wasn't focused on them anymore. The commander was not looking very good. He was sweating enough that the collar of his dress shirt was almost soaked. The tint of his face had gone from healthy blush to a yellow parlor. He looked as if he was about to pass out. A few of the other human delegates had started to notice.
Someone placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Commander are you feeling alright."
"I... I think I... Just need to... Walk around."
His voice was slurred.
"I don't think that's a good idea commander?"
Krill said turning his head to face him.
His pupils were unusually wide, despite the dark space around them.
*"The human was breathing hard now, one hand over his chest. His dry mouth from earlier was gone, replaced by saliva production so excessive he was having to clear his mouth every couple of seconds.
He looked at Krill, and the expression on his face was enough.
"I think I'm going to be sick."
The other delegates had leaned over, sensing the commotion, and they stood to let Krill and the commander pass as he stood and wobbled his way towards the stairs.
Krill could sense something was wrong almost immediately.
Dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea…
"Someone, help him walk."
Krill ordered, not caring about the delegation anymore.
Their sudden movement had caused a bit of commotion on one side of the room. The commander paused on the stairwell, and instead of turning towards the exit, he turned towards the delegation floor. Krill tried to grab him, tried to stop him, but the human – even in his weakened state – was still too strong.
A muttering had grown up around the crowd as he staggered onto the floor.
The chairwoman stopped speaking looking on in confusion.
"Commander, are you alright?”
The human paused at the center of the floor.
Everyone in the room was now watching him.
In the main lighting he looked absolutely horrific.
He was so pale his skin was almost yellow. The skin around his mouth was red. Sweat drenched the side of his face. He was drooling so badly that it was, at this point, impossible to control.
"The... food... Has been poisoned."
He choked out through heaving breaths.
And then he collapsed to his knees, vomiting violently on the white marble floor.
The entire delegation stood, shock and uproar filling the room. Krill ran over to help the human whose arms and hands were shaking as he tried to hold himself up.
The sight was horrifying. Saliva dripped in strings from his mouth. His clothing and hands were stained pink from the orb fruit from earlier.
Krill remembered he said it tasted weird.
Could he really have been poisoned?
A couple other human delegates vaulted over the railings and onto the floor, grabbing the man by the arms as his strength began to fail him. His body was shaking violently now.
Krill practically scream-ordered one of the assistances to grab his medical kit number three B (the one for poisons and toxins)
The entire room was in an uproar.
Krill jammed his finger at the Iotin representatives,
"Don't let them leave!"
The Iotins stood in shock as the delegations turned on them.
The Drev delegation, weaponless, still managed to make a circle around the group.
"Someone, go grab the food, and get me a sample!"
The commander had been rolled onto his side. His body continued to reject whatever toxin it had been given, though Krill desperately tried to avoid him aspirating and choking. That only got harder once the man began to cease and convulse. He had to reduce the absorption, but he also needed to keep the man from throwing it back up.
His kit was open on the floor, and he had the others help him with the tubes and medication. Adam wouldn't be helping him now, so he would have to get directly to the stomach himself.
He had one of the other humans hold him, as he inserted the tube and began with the activated charcoal. Hopefully that would be enough, before they got test results back. One of the Rundi came sprinting into the room, holding one of the pink orbs, handing it over to one of Krill's assistants who was ordered to test the fruit with one of the testing strips.
They did as told and the entire group waited for the results.
When the strip turned blue, Krill knew what it was.
It was at least similar to some toxins he had seen before and attacked the central nervous system in humans through absorption in the gut. The dosage had been too high however, and while the human could potentially choke to death, much of the toxin had already been rejected by the body.
"Someone cut open his sleeve."
The uniform was ignored as the sleeve was cut open and Krill placed an IV reaching into his kit for the antitoxin.
"You... Just have that lying around?"
One of the other humans asked and Krill nodded.
"I work with humans. I expect them to ingest stupid things that could kill them on a regular basis."
He was calm on the outside like a doctor should be, but on the inside, he was panicking horribly. The commander was not looking good.
But he placed the IV and made the injection.
"Someone test the other food. I want to know if this was planned for just the humans or for the entire delegation.”
His orders were quickly followed, and they found the toxin in almost every dish that had been in the banquet hall.
"You should be glad it was the human who took it first."
Krill was saying, the chairwoman asked:
"Why is that?"
"Because, the human body is the only one that would have noticed the poisoning before it was too late. The human brain responds to toxins that affect the central nervous system with dizziness and nausea. For any other species, you would have been dead before the symptoms kicked in."
On the floor the human convulsions had stopped. His heart rate was decreasing now, but Krill was keeping an eye on it.
The Iotins were still looking around in panic as the Drev glowered at them.
"What is the meaning of this?”
Their leader called. Krill turned on them anger in every line of his body,
"We saw one of you leaving the room before we entered, and they were in a hurry. So, forgive me if I am a little suspicious."
More uproar, but the Drev kept the delegates in check.
”Come on, commander."
Krill muttered. If he was going to wake up, it would be in the next few minutes, if only for a little bit.
One of the other humans had ripped open his uniform jacket, removing his tie and pulling the coat off, discarding it to the side. Krill was more than grateful for their help. Even more pleased when the commander opened his eyes bleary, his pupils almost back to normal.
"What... happened?"
He slurred,
"Congratulations, sir! You saved the entire delegation from death by poisoning. You're a hero!”
He groaned,
"I don't feel like one."
He leaned his head back onto the floor.
"Catch the bastards who did this for me will you?"
He licked his lips,
"I'm gonna pass out again now."
And then he did as promised.
Once again, the human body had managed to save the day.
Because as it turns out, humans are actually a lot harder to poison that one might first assume. Give them to high of a dose, and they will throw it up, give them too low of a dose and it won't kill them.
Plus, the human body is very good at letting everyone know when something is wrong.
It is especially difficult to poison a human when their best friend is an experienced doctor.
Whoever had done this, had not succeeded in their end goal.
And they wouldn't likely be free for long.

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

2023.05.30 10:02 tseygurgaon How to Create a Safe and Nurturing Environment in Daycare

As parents, we want to ensure that our children are in safe and nurturing environments, especially when it comes to daycare centers or pre nursery schools. A daycare or pre nursery school is a type of educational facility where children, typically ranging in age from a few months to four years old, are cared for and supervised during the day while their parents are at work or otherwise occupied. These facilities may offer a range of services, including basic care such as feeding, diapering, and naptime, as well as educational activities and socialization opportunities for young children.
Daycare centers and pre nursery schools are essential for parents who work and cannot stay at home to care for their children. Such facilities may be privately owned or operated by public organizations, and may operate on a full-time or part-time basis. They play an important role in early childhood development by providing a safe, nurturing environment for young children to learn and grow. It is important to choose a pre nursery school in Gurgaon that provides a safe and nurturing environment for your child. Here are some tips on how to create a safe and nurturing environment in daycare:

The safety of your child is of utmost importance. One of the most important ways that daycare centers ensure child safety is through close supervision of the children in their care. Staff members are trained to keep a watchful eye on children at all times, and to be alert to potential hazards or situations that could lead to injury or harm. Ensure that the daycare has taken necessary safety measures such as fire exits, first aid kits, and CPR trained staff. The daycare center should also have safety protocols in place for emergencies such as natural disasters and intruders.

Children in daycare have different developmental stages, and it is important to have age-appropriate activities for them. The activities should be designed to develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. A daycare center should provide activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, music and movement, outdoor play, and educational games that are suitable for the child's age and developmental stage.

The daycare center should be clean and hygienic. This includes ensuring that the toys and equipment are clean and disinfected regularly. The center should also have proper waste disposal and handwashing facilities for both the children and the staff. Regular cleaning and disinfection should be a priority to avoid the spread of germs and illnesses.

The staff at the daycare center should be qualified and experienced in child care. They should be trained in child development, behavior management, and first aid. The staff should also have a genuine love for children and be passionate about their work.

The daycare center should have an open communication system with parents. The center should provide daily reports on the child's activities, behavior, and development. The center should also communicate with parents in case of emergencies or incidents involving their child.

Discipline is essential in a daycare setting to maintain order and ensure the safety of the children. However, the discipline should be positive and not harsh. The daycare center should have a discipline policy that emphasizes positive reinforcement, such as praising good behavior, and redirecting negative behavior.

The daycare center should provide nutritious meals and snacks for the children. The meals should be balanced and provide the necessary nutrients for the child's growth and development. The center should also cater to children with special dietary needs or allergies.

The daycare center should provide a safe and comfortable environment for the children. The facilities should be child-friendly, with age-appropriate toys, furniture, and equipment. The daycare center should also have proper ventilation, lighting, and temperature control to ensure the children are comfortable.

The daycare center should provide opportunities for continuous learning and development for both the children and the staff. The center should have a curriculum that is designed to promote learning and development. The staff should also be trained in new teaching techniques and methods.

The daycare center should have a system for regular evaluations and improvements. The center should regularly evaluate its programs and services to ensure that they are meeting the needs of the children and the parents. The center should also be open to feedback from parents and use it to make improvements.

2023.05.30 09:48 Dry-Resource6006 Prometheus and The Castle at the end of the world

I got this idea from "The Magicians", which in turn based that storyline on the myth of Prometheus. The lesser known parts of the myth specifically.
I think "From" is using parts of the myth as well, from both before and after Prometheus tricks Zeus a bunch, steals fire and is imprisoned.
There's too much context to explain it all in detail, but it's not hard to research it if you want to.
So, some similar things in From and the myth are:
The town might be Prometheus' prison. The people are somehow supposed to figure out how to free him, so maybe one of them is hercules, who frees prometheus. That maybe connects to why some people know each other but arrived at the town at separate times and circumstances, as it certain people are guided onto certain paths or else something is changing the circumstances until the right combination works.
In some rarer versions of the myth, the prison is meant to have been built by prometheus at the request of the gods, to contain the worst and most evil beings in creation. So it's really hard to find, which makes sense of both why people arrive totally unintentionally and it being like a pocket universe or wormhole.
Also, Zeus wants mankind to suffer. He tortures them all in intentionally confusing and distressing ways. So to not only snuff out their fire/hope, but make their existence afterwards would be much worse than it was before they had been given fire. He tricks Prometheus's brother Epimetheus, or Afterthought (cause he's so obsessed with the past he can't look ahead to tomorrow at all) into marrying Pandora. Who eventually opens the box and unleashes unimaginably evil things into the world where before there was none. I think the first massacre was the opening of the box and Victor could be a version of Epimetheus. Although I can't quite connect every part of this, because who would Pandora be? She opens the box, not Epimetheus, because she was basically created by zeus to introduce evil onto earth.
Zeus also turns the world into a sorta wasteland (with a flood, among other methods) at one point. And can craft monstrous beings out of clay which are intended to hunt down all of humanity now that they both live in the dark. Mankind initially hid from them underground and in caves. Just like before the talismans. Until prometheus taught them skills they could use to build safer domains. Arguably sorta like the talismans being found, maybe they were left there so they would be found?
Those Golems or ghouls would necessarily be "the tip of the spear", just like the monsters.
By the way, Prometheus delivers that famous fire by way of a reed he finds. He "carrying with him the precious spark hidden in the hollow center of the plant." Faraway Trees maybe? Although I know I might be taking a leap with this one.
I can't be sure if prometheus and whoever the antagonist is, are metaphors for the people's hope, instead of an actual character. That could explain why a lot of characters have visions or hallucinations which could be helpful or deceitful depending on the source.
Prometheus is chained to a mountain in the most popular telling of the myth, doomed with eternal life in suffering. So maybe Boyd took prometheus' burden unto himself in the cave with the dude who was somehow still alive in there until dying after passing it onto Boyd. Slightly darker than the idea of Prometheus willingly taking his punishment so he'd hopefully spare mankind, but hey it's a horror show.
I could just be connecting loose threads because of how stories this old necessarily influence all new stories we'll ever tell.
Or I cracked it and it's all just Ancient Greek poetry, but scary.
