Sunday discussion: Numbering/lettering or naming on car models?
2023.06.04 18:57 floatersforalgernon Sunday discussion: Numbering/lettering or naming on car models?
Which approach do you find useful and/or confusing in creating car models? European brands generally go with the numbering/lettering option to differentiate segments. As far as I can tell:
- BMW's 2, 3, 5, 7 for sedans in increasing order in size and X for SVUs.
- Mercedes' A, C, E, S for sedan classes while G denoting the SUV class.
- Audi's 3, 4, 5, 6 for sedans and Q for SUVs
- Porsche is a bit weird. 718 and 911 for sedans, but they name their SUV
- Ferrari... oh my god.
- Lamborghini... ay dios mรญo.
Models of Asian brands are generally based on words, which makes it a tiny bit difficult when it comes to differentiating size and segment, such as:
- Toyota's Corolla, Camry, Avalon, none of which designates any clue as to size neither does their SUV line-up Corolla Cross, RAV4, 4Runner, etc.
- Honda's Civic, Accord, HR-V, CR-V, Pilot, Passport, etc.
- Hyundai's Accent, Elantra, Sonata, Kona, Tucson, Palisade, etc.
- Kia's Rio, Forte, K5 (?), Soul, Seltos, Sportage, Telluride, etc.
American brands are mixed:
- Ford's flagship truck line-up follows the numbering F-150, F-250, etc., but then all the other models are named: Maverick, Focus, Fiesta, Mustang, etc.
- Chevy, similarly, has the C# designation for Corvette, but names all the other models: Bolt, Blazer, Camaro, Silverado, etc.
- Cadillac's CT-# is for sedans and XT-# for SUVs, but they've got also Lyric, Escalade, Celestiq, etc.
- Tesla's could be the most intriguing: S - 3 - X - Y.
If you had a car company, which option would you choose?

2023.06.04 18:55 banana_nana9 Recommendations for Auto Mechanic
My Ford F-150 didnโt pass the smog test, so Iโm looking for recommendations for mechanics. The place where I did the smog test charges $140 just to look under the hood, and I think that might be a common fee with mechanics. But just wanted to ask for recommendations for mechanics. Thank you!

Please let me know what you think!! First photo: Day of adoption Second photo: present day, flash showing vibrant sheen, ***see reflection showing scales changing color Third photo: present day, no flash showing transparency in fins I took home a beautiful male Betta (Hades) a little over a month ago, and he has been changing colors gradually and consistently all this time. He was mainly black and blue/green the day I added him to the tank, with a single white stripe going down one of his ventral fins. As of today, he has a large group of scales on his head that have lost their black color and are instead white, red, or something in between. The scales have NOT fallen off, and are instead slowly changing to light hues. His fins are also clearly transparent under the tank lighting, but still appear very colorful when looked at with direct (flash)light. He is also developing an adorable little mustache. He also appears very healthy, he doesn't have any rips or splits in his fins, recognizes me approaching, eats readily, swims excitedly, and loves to explore the tank. When I first noticed his appearance changing, I was concerned! I kept a close eye on his behavior, the temperature, water parameters, and removed any questionable items from the tank. Hades is currently in a 7.5 gallon tank with two nerite snails. There is one artificial plant, one moss vine, one live plant, one hide, and I like to add one or two catappa leaves after water changes (usually positioned as a hammock). He's got a low flow filter and a fully submersed heater that keeps the water temperature at about 78ยฐ F. I use test strips and a separate ammonia test (I know test strips aren't ideal, but as of today it's what I have), and water parameters are all within ideal levels if strips are accurate. No ammonia, no nitrites, very low nitrates. I change the water about 50% every 6-9 days, vacuum the sand/gravel, and replace the filter in between water changes. Hades is fed twice a day, and it's a mix of small pellets, flakes and bloodworms, though mainly pellets. The tank was cycled before adding him. I have not attempted any type of medication for him, because although I was concerned about his color change... his behavior has only improved since taking him out of his sad little cup, and I have not seen any other concerning issues. Again, his fins are gorgeous and very whole, he does not rub against any side of the tank, gasp for air, nor does he spend long periods of time on the tank floor, and his scales are NOT falling off. (See the reflection in one of the photos) Though after tons of research I am hoping he's very healthy and merely changing colors, I am seeking any opinions and advice regarding my handsome fish!! submitted by Impressive_Line7974 to bettafish [link] [comments]

2023.06.04 15:05 Boecklin This is my final form
Iโve always specced my homelabs specific to the rental we lived in at the time. Iโve had it all; from a full-depth power-hungry rack, a lone NAS. By Mid-2020, we decided to build a home. The deadline was March of 2021, so I had 8 months to plan. First thing I started to wonder; where will my server go, and what should it look like? I wanted something accessible but didnโt want to hear it. Not subject to temperature fluctuations during the seasons. No requirement for dusting it out every 6 months. Out of sight and mind for the children. Something scalable, yet efficient. Somewhere well ventilated, but not with any audible ventilation. The decision was the laundry broom cupboard. As this is a small area, My options for equipment were limited to 440mm deep, which I barely managed! I also needed a way to exhaust the heat into the ceiling...I chose a Panasonic FV-24JA3 as the exhaust fan for the top of the cupboard. Installation was.. Exhausting. But we got there with a ๐๐ of room to spare! This thing is extremely quiet, and automatically adjusts fan speed to adjust varying external static pressures (like air filters ๐) So I had the exhaust sorted, but what about intake? The air from the laundry is subject to condensation from the drier and dust from the clothing, so the only option was putting a hole in the hallway wall and installing the return air grille. These, and the interchangable filters, are sold by most airconditiong companies. No more dust! It also meant that the air intake temperature was consistent all year round, thanks to our thermostat. The finished result is a product that ticks all the boxes from above.I couldn't be happier! https://preview.redd.it/sdt131qy204b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=599f45e4108db83d8b9d728453119d43479611d0 https://preview.redd.it/y0vrg8ei204b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eacf676c0602fa636f07ff74d10002b2c056aa8d submitted by Boecklin to homelab [link] [comments]

Engine, transmission, and transfer case skid plates installed. Includes the optional catalytic guard plates. My friend went into a movie and when he came out, his cats were gone. I looked for options to protect my new truck. RCI makes and awesome skid plate set with optional cat guards. It was the best option I could find. And I love the fit & finish. submitted by Confusedjp to f150 [link] [comments]
2023.06.04 08:52 Ok_Rooster8677 Grille air filters
My house has Zephyr grille air filters (see attached picture). I am not able to use low cost normal air filters due to the ridge in the vent which prevents the normal 20x30 filter from going into the vent. The existing filter has a top part that is smaller than 20x30 and bottom part equal to 20x30.
Are there low cost alternatives that I can use ? The current zephyr filter is about $40-50 per filter.

2023.06.04 06:45 WeirdLite Rpm fluctuating and poor performance?
quick question, car has really poor acceleration and today I noticed when I put pedal to floor for like 2 seconds while driving rpm jumps up then down a bit..
Example- rpm 1500 to 2200/2500 drops back to 1500 jumps to around 1700 and stays there for a second or two and then will come down - all the while my foot is completely off the pedal during this.
I also noticed TPS voltage goes from around 4 to like 3.6 while accelerating..
The ltft is negative, stft seems to adjusting between -5 and +5-ish...
Car is a ford territory 2008, if that makes a difference
Has new coils and plugs, plus air and fuel filter are clean

2023.06.04 05:21 ach_254 Upgrading from Sync 2 to Sync 3 - Ford F-150?
Hi All. I have a 2013 Ford F-150. I see there are sites selling upgrades to move from Sync 2 to Sync 3, but I see that Ford says this is "No, previous versions of SYNC hardware cannot be upgraded to a newer SYNC system." So I take it that you can upgrade, but that it is no longer supported by Ford? So right now I get updates through Ford...I would assume no more updates?
Thoughts on this? Thanks.

2023.06.04 01:31 Responsible-Air7387 Advice for New Freshwater Planted Tank
Hi Everyone! I am looking start up a small freshwater tank, and I'd love some advice from more experienced fish keepers on how to go about it. I've got a general plan, but I'm hoping to weed out any bad ideas before I actually expend any money or effort.
A few years back, I had a ten gallon Aqueon tank, which held some plants and a single Betta. It was functional, but I felt that being able to see the filter and the heater really ruined the aesthetic. I'm planning to purchase the
Fluval Flex 15 Gallon this time around, mainly because of its hidden filtration in the back and the bowed front. I love the look of it! But I wonder whether a rimless tank with curved glass like this is more prone to cracking? Does anyone have experience with this tank? I've seen a few reviews on Amazon about the tank cracking, but they seem to be a slim minority (maybe 10 reviews out of 1500).
I'd like keep this tank on my desk, which is
this model. It's advertised on Amazon as being able to support up to 450 pounds. I estimate a fifteen gallon tank would weigh 150-175 pounds, which is well under that limit. There wouldn't be anything else heavy on the desk. Likely, just my laptop and a few office supplies. But I'd love any advice on whether or not this desk looks sturdy enough to support a tank.
I'm aiming for a planted community tank, with some invertebrates. I definitely want a couple of Nerite Snails and cherry shrimp as a cleanup crew. What's a good number of cherry shrimp to start with? I'd like to see them form a small colony and reproduce a bit, but I don't want the tank to be overrun. For fish, I'm thinking of a school of cory cat fish - any suggestions on which type? - and a school of either neon or cardinal tetras.
Would this sort of community need an air pump? The water will be a good deal of surface movement since I am adding a few modification pieces that I stumbled across on Etsy. One piece will increase the water flow coming out of the filter. I've never had a tank without a labyrinth fish though, so I am unsure of how much oxygenation regular fish and invertebrates require.
For other modifications, I'm getting guards for the filter intake, to prevent shrimp from getting sucked into the back section of the tank. I also decided to purchase a cover for the feeding hole on the lid, as well as a couple of plastic latches to secure the lid itself. I have a cat who will have access to the tank, and I don't want her stirring up any mischief.
What are the easiest freshwater plants? I plan to buy some driftwood and rocks for a natural look, and would like to add real plants. But I don't mind using buying special substate, fertilisers, and/or root tabs, but I'd like to avoid having to upgrade the tank lights or pump CO2 into the tank.
Lastly, what am I forgetting? I'd greatly appreciate any advice, particularly relating to the questions I've asked. But if you feel there is something I've not considered, please feel free to share. Thank you all!
