2023.06.02 22:22 Dismal-Jellyfish $86 billion deposited to commercial banks in the last week (May 17th-24th). $920 billion in deposits has been pulled since the all time hit 4/13/22. Since the run picked up momentum 2/22/2023, $452 billion in deposits have been pulled. Is the bank run stabilizing? Still a TON of BTFP borrowing...
| Happy Friday Superstonk, I hope everyone had a great week! Resident Jellyfish back again to review this weeks commercial bank deposit data (and how deposit outflows are still being 'made up' with borrowing from sweetheart liquidity programs for the banks. https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h8/20230602/ https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DPSACBW027SBOG (to be added when update publishes) A little over a year ago (4/13/2022) the high was hit at $18,158.3536 billion Date | Deposits, All Commercial Banks (billions) | Down from all time high (billions) | 4/13/2022 | $18,158 | 0 | 2/22/2023 (Run picks up speed) | $17,690 | -$468 billion | 3/1/2023 | $17,662 | -$496 billion | 3/8/2023 | $17,599 | -$559 billion | 3/15/2023 | $17,428 | -$730 billion | 3/22/2023 | $17,256 | -$902 billion | 3/29/2023 | $17,192 | -$966 billion | 4/5/2023 | $17,253 | -$905 billion | 4/12/2023 | $17,168 | -$990 billion | 4/19/2023 | $17,180 | -$978 billion | 4/26/2023 | $17,164 | -$994 billion | 5/3/2023 | $17,149 | -$1,009 billion | 5/10/2023 | $17,123 | -$1,035 billion | 5/17/2023 | $17,152 | -$1006 billion | 5/24/2023 | $17,238 | -$920 billion | All this money pulled from commercial banks as M2 (U.S. money stock--currency and coins held by the non-bank public, checkable deposits, and travelers' checks, plus savings deposits, small time deposits under 100k, and shares in retail money market funds) is decreasing: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M2SL https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h6/current/default.htm A little less than a year ago (July 2022) the M2 high was hit at $21,703 billion Date | M2 (billions) | Down from all time high (billions) | July 2022 | $21,703 | 0 | August 2022 | $21,660 | -$43 billion | September 2022 | $21,524 | -$179 billion | October 2022 | $21,432 | -$271 billion | November 2022 | $21,398 | -$305 billion | December 2022 | $21,358 | -$345 billion | January 2023 | $21,212 | -$491 billion | February 2023* | $21,076 | -$627 billion | March 2023 | $20,840 | -$863 billion | April 2023 | $20,673 | -$1030 billion | \Bank run in commercial banks picked up in February 2023.) - M1 consists of (1) currency outside the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve Banks, and the vaults of depository institutions; (2) demand deposits at commercial banks (excluding those amounts held by depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign banks and official institutions) less cash items in the process of collection and Federal Reserve float; and (3) other liquid deposits, consisting of other checkable deposits (or OCDs, which comprise negotiable order of withdrawal, or NOW, and automatic transfer service, or ATS, accounts at depository institutions, share draft accounts at credit unions, and demand deposits at thrift institutions) and savings deposits (including money market deposit accounts). Seasonally adjusted M1 is constructed by summing currency, demand deposits, and other liquid deposits, each seasonally adjusted separately.
- M2 consists of M1 plus (1) small-denomination time deposits (time deposits in amounts of less than $100,000) less individual retirement account (IRA) and Keogh balances at depository institutions; and (2) balances in retail money market funds (MMFs) less IRA and Keogh balances at MMFs. Seasonally adjusted M2 is constructed by summing small-denomination time deposits and retail MMFs, each seasonally adjusted separately, and adding the result to seasonally adjusted M1.
- Currency in circulation consists of Federal Reserve notes and coin outside the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve Banks.
- Reserve balances are balances held by depository institutions in master accounts and excess balance accounts at Federal Reserve Banks.
- Monetary base equals currency in circulation plus reserve balances.
- Total reserves equal reserve balances plus, before April 2020, vault cash used to satisfy reserve requirements.
- Total borrowings in millions of dollars from the Federal Reserve are borrowings from the discount window's primary, secondary, and seasonal credit programs and other borrowings from emergency lending facilities. For borrowings included, see "Loans" in table 1 of the H.4.1 statistical release.
- Nonborrowed reserves equal total reserves less total borrowings from the Federal Reserve.
However, borrowing from the liquidity fairy is spiraling to make up for it shrinking M2 and dwindling deposits: - Bank Term Funding Program (BTFP)
- Discount Window/Primary Credit
- "Other Credit Extensions"

By providing ready access to funding, the discount window helps depository institutions manage their liquidity risks efficiently and avoid actions that have negative consequences for their customers, such as withdrawing credit during times of market stress. Thus, the discount window supports the smooth flow of credit to households and businesses. Providing liquidity in this way is one of the original purposes of the Federal Reserve System and other central banks around the world. The "Primary Credit" program is the principal safety valve for ensuring adequate liquidity in the banking system. Primary credit is priced relative to the FOMC’s target range for the federal funds rate and is normally granted on a “no-questions-asked,” minimally administered basis. There are no restrictions on borrowers’ use of primary credit. https://www.frbdiscountwindow.org/Pages/General-Information/Primary-and-Secondary-Lending-Programs.aspx Examples of common borrowing situations: - Tight money markets or undue market volatility
- Preventing an overnight overdraft
- Meeting a need for funding, including a short-term liquidity demand that may arise from unexpected deposit withdrawals or a spike in loan demand
The introduction of the primary credit program in 2003 marked a fundamental shift - from administration to pricing - in the Federal Reserve's approach to discount window lending. Notably, eligible depository institutions may obtain primary credit without exhausting or even seeking funds from alternative sources. Minimal administration of and restrictions on the use of primary credit makes it a reliable funding source. Being prepared to borrow primary credit enhances an institution's liquidity. Notice how use of the Discount Window has PLUMMETED as BTFP has come in to play? BTFP offers slightly lower interest and longer terms. I wonder how many folks paid back their Discount Window loans with BTFP money? https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WLCFOCEL Tool | Other Credit Extension | Up from 3/15, 1st week of program ($ billion) | 3/15 | $142.8 billion | $0 billion | 3/22 | $179.8 billion | $37 billion | 3/29 | $180.1 billion | $37.3 billion | 4/5 | $174.6 billion | $31.8 billion | 4/12 | $172.6 billion | $29.8 billion | 4/19 | $172.6 billion | $29.8 billion | 4/26 | $170.3 billion | $27.5 billion | 5/3 | $228.2 billion | $85.4 billion | 5/10 | $212.5 billion | $69.7billion | 5/17 | $208.5 billion | $65.7 billion | 5/24 | $192.6 billion | $49.8 billion | 5/31 | $188.092 billion | $45.292 billion | "Other credit extensions" includes loans that were extended to depository institutions established by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Federal Reserve Banks' loans to these depository institutions are secured by collateral and the FDIC provides repayment guarantees. For example, $114 billion in face value Agency Mortgage Backed Securities, Collateralized Mortgage Obligations, and Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities about to be liquidated 'gradual and orderly' with the 'aim to minimize the potential for any adverse impact on market functioning' by BlackRock. How I understand this works: - The FDIC created temporary banks to support the operations of the ones they have taken over.
- The FDIC did not have the money to operate these banks.
- The Fed is providing that in the form of a loan via "Other credit extensions".
- The FDIC is going to sell the taken over banks assets.
- Whatever the difference between the sale of the assets and the ultimate loan number is, will be the amount split up amongst all the remaining banks and applied as a special fee to make the Fed 'whole'.
- It can be argued the consumer will ultimately end up paying for this as banks look to pass this cost on in some way.
There has been an update on this piece recently: Whatever the difference between the sale of the assets and the ultimate loan number is, will be the amount split up amongst all the remaining banks and applied as a special fee to make the Fed 'whole'. FDIC Board of Directors Issues a Proposed Rule on Special Assessment Pursuant to Systemic Risk Determination of approximately $15.8 billion. It is estimated that a total of 113 banking organizations would be subject to the special assessment. https://www.fdic.gov/news/fact-sheets/systemic-risk-determination-5-11-23.html What does all this borrowing look like for the banks? They sure as heck aren't getting funding from deposits...: https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/13eme4d/bank_funding_during_the_current_monetary_policy/ Over the few weeks prior to the FDIC receivership announcements on March 10 and 12, the banking sector lost another approximately $450 billion. Throughout, the banking sector has offset the reduction in deposit funding with an increase in other forms of borrowing which has increased by $800 billion since the start of the tightening. The right panel of the chart below summarizes the cumulative change in deposit funding by bank size category since the start of the tightening cycle through early March 2023 and then through the end of March. Until early March 2023, the decline in deposit funding lined up with bank size, consistent with the concentration of deposits in larger banks. Small banks lost no deposit funding prior to the events of late March. In terms of percentage decline, the outflows were roughly equal for regional, super-regional, and large banks at around 4 percent of total deposit funding: https://preview.redd.it/q162qztuvn3b1.png?width=572&format=png&auto=webp&s=5f802c33839e95f31b97d10d3e78c568189956b9 The blue bar in the left panel above shows that the pattern changes following the run on SVB. The additional outflow is entirely concentrated in the segment of super-regional banks. In fact, most other size categories experience deposit inflows. The right panel illustrates that outflows at super-regionals begin immediately after the failure of SVB and are mirrored by deposit inflows at large banks in the second week of March 2022. Further, while deposit funding remains at a lower level throughout March for super-regional banks, the initially large inflows mostly reverse by the end of March. Notably, banks with less than $100 billion in assets were relatively unaffected. However, during the most acute phase of banking stress in mid-March, other borrowings exceeded reductions in deposit balances, suggesting significant and widespread demand for precautionary liquidity. A substantial amount of liquidity was provided by the private markets, likely via the FHLB system, but primary credit and the Bank Term Funding Program (both summarized as Federal Reserve credit) were equally important. https://preview.redd.it/no5wga6xvn3b1.png?width=557&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8b2fe4a73e16ac898400327a4fb4d60b7fd15bc - Large banks increased borrowing the most, which is in line with deposit outflows being strongest for larger banks before March 2023.
- During March 2023, both super-regional and large banks increase their borrowings, with most increases being centered in the super-regional banks that faced the largest deposit outflows.
- Note, however, that not all size categories face deposit outflows but that all except the small banks increase their other borrowings.
- This pattern suggests demand for precautionary liquidity buffers across the banking system, not just among the most affected institutions:

- Folks have pulled $452 billion in deposits since 2/22/2023
- Folks have added $86 billion in deposits 5/17-5/24
- Is the bank run stabilizing? More fuel for June rate hike?

2023.06.02 20:57 neo2056 Joining the club! Hoping for some feedback.
| -Love the ride, interior, and handling. It’s faster than I expected in Sport mode. Gas mileage is also better than expected. Way more fun to drive than my buddy’s S5. Similar to my other friend’s M340i but I prefer the ride of the Stinger. -I got a nice deal on a Canadian model which I believe is the GT Prestige. So it has a mishmash of GT1 and GT2 features but doesn’t have the front camera for example. Nor the 360 cam. Probably missing some other small details but I can’t notice so far. Also kind of annoyed that CarPlay requires a USB connection. I’ve seen plenty of cars where’s it’s wireless. I really think they dropped the ball on this minor but critical detail for driver enjoyment. -So far modded only cosmetics. Fully limo tinted all the way around, smoked out tail lights, rear is completely de-badged. Wheels powder coated glossy black along with front KIA decal. Looks nice and a lot of people have been asking what car it is — ha. I was going to install front canards but didn’t realize they came in a trashy Matte plastic from KDM. Will need to dip or paint them glossy before I consider putting them on. Don’t know about how they will hold up with 3M tape either… -Chrome trim along roofline is getting sun damaged and corroded. I tried a chrome cleaner but it only lasted a day. Should I wrap this or will it be covered under warranty? This is disappointing. My 2012 Acura had chrome trim that still looks brand new to this day. -Considering smoking out the blinkers on the headlights. Anyone do this yet? I don’t want to do the whole headlight since I’m not a fan of that look. -Now to the major question. What kind of performance mods have you guys done? I’ve seen a lot of talk of Injen intakes, Borla Exhaust, new HKS plugs, etc. I don’t know how I feel about that piggy back ECU. I’m over my head there and may stay away since I’ve heard it could lead to issues down the road. Any thoughts? Don’t want to break the bank on any mods but absolutely want to get some nicer sound out of the car and a modest horsepower bump. Lastly — what’s a solid radar detector nowadays? I’ve been out of the loop for a while. Thanks and overall super stoked for the ride. I wish more people bought the car but I also love how rare it is. I didn’t want a cookie cutter BeameAudi/Lexus. Can’t afford a proper M series, RS, AMG. So this is a perfect middle ground. submitted by neo2056 to kiastinger [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 20:18 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 84. Iowa State
Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings For all the Cyclone fanatics out there, I see you guys. For the 6th worst Power 5 team on this list, Iowa State has had incredible support, averaging 50,000+ fans a year even during their lows. Finally, after years of struggling minus a few nice Dan McCarney years, Iowa State’s found a coach that’s brought them consistent success in Matt Campbell. Outside of Campbell’s first year in which he went 3-9 and the latest 4-8 season in 2022, the 5 years in between (2017-21) all place in my top 7 ISU seasons over the last 40 years. Whether last year was an outlier or if Iowa State will regress to their historical mean remains to be seen, but the last 6 years have been great compared to what fans have been accustomed to.

- 184-283-5 record
- 0 conference titles
- 5-8 bowl record
- 5 consensus All-Americans
- 42 NFL players drafted
Iowa State certainly has a knack for producing really good RBs. 4 of their 5 All-Americans come from 2 RBs in Troy Davis (1995, ‘96) and Breece Hall (2020, ‘21). At just 5’8 183 lbs, Davis became the first player in NCAA history to rush for 2000 yards in back-to-back seasons, and remains one of only 2 players to ever do so. In 1995 he ran for 2010 yards and 15 TD, placing 5th in Heisman voting. He outdid himself a year later, rushing for 2185 yards and 21 TD, narrowly missing out on the Heisman, finishing to 2nd Florida QB Danny Wuerfel, who got 49% of the votes compared to Davis’ 43%. Davis won 3 of 4 regions, but lost badly in the South. Still, the tradition of producing strong RBs rings true, as Iowa State’s produced 8 RBs during the last 40 years with 2500+ career rushing yards. Notable NFL players include David Montgomery, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, Pro Bowler Kelechi Osemele, and as a 49er fan, future Hall of Famer Brock Purdy.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 1997 (1-10 overall, 1-7 Big 12) Remember how good Troy Davis was, especially after I described him above? Well, his teams weren’t very good, going 3-8 in 1995 and 2-9 in 1996. So you can imagine how 1997 went after he had left for the NFL. Iowa State didn’t stand a chance in Dan McCarney’s 3rd year as head coach, and it’s honestly a miracle the Cyclones let him stay for so long, as it took 6 years for him to get his first winning season. The gamble paid off though, as he was eventually inducted into the Iowa State Hall of Fame. Still, 1997 was his worst year. They had a talented freshman QB by the name of Sage “Helicopter” Rosenfels on the roster, but he wouldn’t start for another 2 years. QB was not a big issue though, as Todd Bandhauer had a respectable year, completing 48% of passes for 2514 yards 20 TD 9 INT, leading the Big 12 in passing yards and TDs. Bandhauer was a 2-time All-Academic Big 12 selection, and is currently an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State. WR Tyrone Watley led the Big 12 in receiving yards with 827, and RB Darren Davis had 1000+ yards in just 9 games. Offense wasn’t a huge issue, but the defense gave up 44.8 PPG. The lone win on the year was 24-17 over 2-9 Baylor, and losses included 14-77 to #3 Nebraska and 20-63 to #13 Iowa, losing their 15th straight against the Hawkeyes.
5. 2021 (7-6 overall, 5-4 Big 12) For this season to be a disappointment but also top 5 on this list tells you how far Iowa State’s come under Matt Campbell. Make no mistake, it was a disappointment, finishing 7-6 after a preseason #7 ranking, but they were still the best 7-6 team in 2021 (out of 17 teams) by my metric. Iowa State returned 4th year starting QB Brock Purdy, consensus All-American Breece Hall, 2x 1st Team All-Big 12 TE Charlie Kolar, and Big 12 Defensive POTY LB Mike Rose, so the preseason expectations weren’t unfounded. A typical ISU slow start saw them barely beat Northern Iowa, and a classic Brian Ferentz Iowa performance had the Hawkeyes take a 27-10 lead (27-17 final) despite getting outgained 173-339 in yardage. 2 weeks later, a trap game 31-29 loss in Waco all but ended the Cyclones’ playoff hopes, despite outgaining Baylor by nearly 200 yards. However, in true Iowa State fashion, they rebounded to mess up Oklahoma State’s season a few weeks later, beating the #8 Cowboys 24-21 to improve to 5-2. A 2-4 finish was mostly because of location, going 2-0 at home and 0-4 in road/neutral sites. It was a squandered year for Iowa State, outscoring Big 12 opponents by an average of 12 PPG but going just 5-4. 8 starters on offense made 1st/2nd Team All-Big 12, by far the most in the conference. Breece repeated as consensus AA/Big 12 OPOTY with 1774 yards and 23 TD from scrimmage, while Rose earned 1st Team all-conference again.
4. 2018 (8-5 overall, 6-3 Big 12) For the first time since the Big 12 moved from divisions to a round robin format in 2013, Iowa State wasn’t picked in the bottom 2 with Kansas. Big 12 media picked them 7th, this time coming above Texas Tech, Baylor, and of course Kansas. But after starting QB Kyle Kempt went down in the season opener, and backup Zeb Noland went just 1-3, Matt Campbell gave a shot to a freshman by the name of Brock Purdy. In a sort of foreshadowing for names in the NFL, Kyle became a mentor to Brock, and Purdy exploded onto the scene, throwing for 4 TD and rushing for another in a 48-42 win at #25 Oklahoma State. He’d top that a week later, beating #6 West Virginia and Will Grier 30-14, this time the defense stepping up big to hold Grier to just 67 total yards. ISU never looked back with Purdy, and nearly made the Big 12 title game if they had beaten Texas. They finished the regular season 8-4, 3rd in the Big 12, and nearly beat 11-2 Washington State in the bowl. Campbell won Big 12 Coach of the Year for the 2nd straight season. Purdy was 6th in the nation in passing efficiency, completing 66% of passes for 2250 yards 16 TD 7 INT, on 10.2 YPA. RB David Montgomery had another 1000+ yard rushing season and has gone on to have a productive NFL career. WR Hakeem Butler was 3rd in the nation in yards per catch (22.0), getting 60 passes for 1318 yards and 9 TD.
3. 2017 (8-5 overall, 5-4 Big 12) Before Brock Purdy and Iowa State could run, the 2017 team had to walk. Years of effort from give-it-their-all players like Allen Lazard and Joel Lanning culminated in a magical 2018 season that might just be the fondest on this list. ISU had gone just 11-37 over the previous 4 seasons, so a 2nd to last place Big 12 finish was expected. After a 2-2 start, ISU pulled off maybe the biggest win in school history, beating #3 Oklahoma 38-31, who’d go on to make the playoff with Baker Mayfield winning the Heisman. LB Joel Lanning, who was the team’s starting QB the previous 2 seasons, was the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week, logging 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, as well as 9 rushes for 35 yards and 2 completions for 25 yards on offense. A few weeks later against Oklahoma State he’d become the 1st player in the last 10 years to record a pass TD, rush TD, and half sack in the same game. After the win over OU though, just a few weeks later Iowa State would ALSO beat #4 TCU 14-7!!! A few one possession losses later and ISU finished 7-5, but would beat yet another top 25 team in the bowl in #20 Memphis.
Lanning was named a 1st Team All-American by FWAA, racking up 114 tackles, 6 sacks, 5 TFL, 1 INT, 135 rushing yards, 47 passing yards, and 3 TD. Not bad for a former QB. QB Kyle Kempt was one of the most underrated stories of the season, emerging as the starter in the 5th game and going on to throw 15 TD to just 3 INT. Kempt was a 5th year walk-on who had only thrown 2 passes in his career prior to the Oklahoma game. By the time the season was over, he had 2 wins over top 5 teams, and today is still on the team as a coach.
2. 2000 (9-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12) Like the 2017 team, the 2000 Cyclones came out of nowhere, a dormant program that had gone just 27-80-3 the previous decade. ISU players knew the talent they had though, led by future NFL QB Sage Rosenfels, one of 9 players that would go on to make NFL rosters. Another would go on to join the Iowa Senate, and the late LB Justin Eilers would fight in the UFC. They played a very favorable schedule, going 8-3 in the regular season with 0 wins over Power 6 teams with a winning record, but did beat 7-4 Ohio, 8-5 UNLV, and rival Iowa for the Cy-Hawk. ISU put any “soft schedule” talk to rest when they beat the Big East’s 3rd placed team, Pitt, in the bowl 37-29. Rosenfels had a nice curtain call, winning offensive POTG with 23/34 passing for 308 yards and 2 TD. Rosenfels did what he had to during the year, with deceiving stats of 2298 passing yards 8 TD 12 INT. He was a solid runner though, and would become known for his patented “helicopter” move in the NFL, rushing for 381 yards and 10 TD. RB Ennis Haywood and C Ben Bruns were ISU’s two 1st Team All-Big 12 selections, as Haywood ran for 1237 yards and Bruns led the way. The 5’6(!) JJ Moses led the team in receiving with 775 yards, and was named team MVP.
1. 2020 (9-3 overall, 8-1 Big 12) Ahh, but it had to be the 2020 team at #1. Even my algorithm places this team way above 2000 even though they had the same record, with the 2000 team finishing ranked 27th and 2020 finishing ranked 7th. After a typical ISU slow start, losing 13-30 to UL Lafayette, the rest of the year couldn’t have gone much better. In the 3rd game they beat eventual B12 champion Oklahoma 37-30. Later on they beat #17 Texas in Darrel K Royal 23-20, essentially ensuring Tom Herman would be fired after the season, and stomped 6-4 West Virginia 42-6. ISU entered the Big 12 championship game against Oklahoma as the 1 seed, and had an opportunity at the end to win, but came up short 21-27. A 34-17 Fiesta Bowl win over Pac-12 champion Oregon was pretty satisfying though, and Iowa State finished with their highest ever postseason ranking at #9. They cleaned up in the Big 12 accolades, taking up 9 of the 22 1st Team all-conference slots. Breece Hall was Big 12 Offensive POTY and a consensus All-American, with 1752 yards and 23 TD from scrimmage. LB Mike Rose won Big 12 Defensive POTY with 99 tackles, 10.5 total TFL, and 5 INT. Campbell won Coach of the Year, and WR Xavier Hutchinson and DB Isheem Young won Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Freshman of the Year, respectively. Shoutout to 1st Team All-Big 12 TE Charlie Kolar as well, who was a consistent force making 1st/2nd Team all-conference in each of his 4 seasons.
5th Quarter
Iowa State fans, what do you look back more fondly on, the Matt Campbell years with expectations of competing for a Big 12 title, or the Paul Rhoads years with a win over #2 Oklahoma State and some other fun upsets? Do you think Brock Purdy was always as good as he played for the 49ers in 2022, or is he mostly propped up by a stacked San Francisco offense? Who was better, Troy Davis or Breece Hall? Does David Montgomery take the 3rd spot or does that go to someone like Darren Davis/Alexander Robinson? Aside from going there, what makes someone choose to follow Iowa State? And how’d I do on your guys’ history?

2023.06.02 19:33 dreamingofislay Feis Ile 2023 Day Seven Recap (6/2)
| A bit of a fail today, Bunnahabhain's open day. Before getting to the island, I booked tasting experiences at Lagavulin and Ardbeg, fully intending to swing by Bunnahabhain before the day was over. Unfortunately, the 2 pm at Ardbeg ran long, so we didn't make it. One of the spirit stills in Ardbeg's new (2021) stillhouse - Iain McArthur is a Lagavulin legend, working at the distillery for more than 50 years. His warehouse tastings have long been a bucket-list experience for Islay whisky fans. He's semi-retired now, fully retiring later in 2023, and doesn't work every week. But for Feis week, he's been back in the warehouse and cracking guests up, along with a younger host named Ellen who was great. When we last came in 2018, I wore a pair of old, ripped-up jeans, and Iain slapped duct tape over the holes in them, to uproarious laughter. This time around, I made sure to come in holeless jeans :)
- We asked Iain about the rumor we heard yesterday, which is that Port Ellen cut off the other Islay distilleries, and that Beam Suntory retaliated by cutting off their peat supply. He debunked that, explaining that Diageo has its own peat fields. But he did say that he wished Port Ellen had kept supplying at least some malt to the other distilleries. By his account, all those distilleries helped keep Port Ellen alive after the distillery part shut down, so out of respect for that history, they should have kept supplying some malt to everyone.
- Among many laugh lines, Iain claimed that Port Ellen made terrible whisky in the 1980s, which is why it shuttered. And now the newly reopened Port Ellen is trying to replicate that style, so we'll see whether it's any good in about 12 years.
- Iain was very frank about his misgivings with the direction the parent company's taken the last few years. Everyone applauded when he said that he wished they just bottled a good whisky at a fair price for the Feis. It was really sad for us to hear that. The reason we love these distilleries is because of people like Iain, who've represented these amazing whiskies for their whole lives and really care about them.
- The next stop for us was Ardbeg's Warehouse 3 tasting, led by Emma (such a charming host). As Ardbeg fans may know, the distillery's mascot is an adorable little dog named Shorty. It turns out that Shorty was her husband's dog. He passed away in 2014, but he's still all over the distillery - literally, he's painted all over the walls.
- Fascinating fact about the modern whiskymaking process: at every step, there is an on-paper "sale" of the product. So the maltmen make the malt, and then "sell" it to the stillmen, who distill it. Even between the two distillations, the first set of stillmen "sell" it to the second (even though they're the same people). The point of all of this is to track things for accurate taxation.
- Islay sounds like paradise. 0.06% unemployment, and four police officers for the whole island.
- Gaelic note of the day: because it's hard to do accents on most websites, I've always spelled it "Feis." But technically, it should be "Fèis." The accent signals that the vowel should be stretched out (Feeeiiisss). And the two words have a different meaning. "Fèis" is festival. "Feis," without the accent, means sex.
Okay, time to talk whisky: Lagavulin Feis Ile 2023 14 y.o. Armagnac finish - It's overpriced, but it is damn good. Reminded me of Twizzlers candy, with a sweet and warming finish. Maybe the best Festival bottling from this year, along with Bunnahabhain's 17 y.o. Moine triple cask and Kilchoman's three-cask vatting. Lagavulin 10 y.o. refill cask - This 57% cask-strength dram was delicious, with notes of sticky rice dessert, coconut, and a strong, industrial peat in the second half. This would be a fun whisky to drink with a green curry. Lagavulin 12 y.o. red wine cask - I haven't loved a red-wine-matured whisky the entire trip, but there's always an exception that proves the rule. This dram was my favorite whisky of the day. The nose is leathery, but the fruit builds and builds over time, transforming to blueberries on the finish. Lagavulin 16 y.o. refill European oak cask - Not a sherry cask, they were quick to emphasize this point. I described this one as "briny sweet tea." It has a relatively light, floral body, with an effervescent finish. Lovely whisky. Lagavulin 18 y.o. refill sherry butt - Although this one was a sherry cask, it tasted very similar to me to the previous dram, and was light in color. Since I liked the 16 y.o., I liked this one a lot too, although I wished for a meatier presentation. Lagavulin 26 y.o. The Lion's Jewel - Iain pulled this one out as a surprise dram at the end of the tasting, a special treat for Feis Ile. It smells like a high-end leather shop, and, on the palate, combines waxy fruit sweets with olive brine and tannins. The finish is spectacular, fragrant incense and burnt herbs. Ardbeg 10 - We walked the mile from Lagavulin to Ardbeg and, since we had about an hour to kill, enjoyed two quick drams. Ardbeg 10 is an icon for a reason, a fruity lemon-lime and smoke malt. Ardbeg BizarreBQ - As soon as we had this, my wife insisted we buy a bottle. It's a rich, dark, oily, and woody dram with distinct notes of dried barley. As she put it: "No fruit, I don't need any of that nonsense." Ardbeg 2019 4 y.o. refill virgin oak - The first of four single casks in the Warehouse 3 tasting. This barrel was virgin oak (not ex-bourbon), aging a whisky for 10 years, and then refilled with the current spirit and aged for only four years. But you'd never know from tasting it; creamy scents pave the way to a medicinal and lactic palate. We paired this with two cheeses, and it transformed a mellow smoked cheese into a sharp, muscular cheddar. Ardbeg 2012 10 y.o. first-fill bourbon - After a huge vanilla hit on the nose, this whisky proves to be an intense, sweet dram, but with a spicy smoke finish. One surprise note from Emma: these four cask types are the constituents of An Oa, and I definitely get the sweetness of An Oa in this dram. Ardbeg 2010 12 y.o. PX cask - I haven't been in a big PX mood on this trip, but this one is lovely: dark fruit syrup and spice again on the finish. The main flaw is that the nose is disjointed and full of that typical PX funk, almost smelling like a permanent marker. Ardbeg 2013 9 y.o. refill bourbon - If they labeled this Ardbeg 10 Cask Strength, I'd have believed it - and demanded to know how I could buy a bottle. The quintessential lemon-lime note reemerges here. Ardbeg Heavy Vapours Committee Release - The conceit of Heavy Vapours is that Ardbeg blocked up its usual purifiers, letting a very different, heavier spirit develop. It is hugely smoky, but the effect is somewhat counterintuitive to me. The sweeter flavors of Ardbeg are gone, and I get floral, herbaceous flavors of a gin or tequila on the palate, before a heavy, ashy smoke settles in. I wasn't a big fan of this dram. One day left, and Ardbeg day is sure to be a barnburner. My wife won a lottery to join a small Committee group for "Operation Smokescreen" tomorrow morning, tasting never-released Ardbegs in the warehouse, so I'll lean on her for some fun notes tomorrow. Previous recaps: Day One, Lagavulin Day Two, Bruichladdich - but we skipped and did Bunnahabhain Day Three, Caol Ila Day Four, Laphroaig Day Five, Bowmore and Ardnahoe Bonus notes from Days One through Five Day Six, Kilchoman submitted by dreamingofislay to Scotch [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 18:37 ejkim0403 Mercedes CLS 250 AMG door sill
Hey fellas, I currently drive a Mercedes CLS 250 AMG here in South Korea. (This model doesn't seem to be widely available in other countries based on my research) The door sill of the back seats are completely ruined and I've been trying my best to find parts for it as I don't want to pay $600 at the dealership. Any idea on where I can find this thing and if so, what part I would have to buy exactly? Thank you all in advance.

2023.06.02 18:20 Troll-e-poll-e-o-lee Fall 2024 hopeful. Should I even apply? 31M First Gen URM w/unusual path. 670 GMAT. Be honest w/my chances.
Brief-ish background (more detail on some of the career description below).Grew up in the southwest. Not very good options as far as schools and career paths post college (it’s all operations and warehouses). Could have probably gotten into better undergrads but as a first-gen student (parents not from US), I didn’t really understand the importance of college choice for career path nor what career paths were out there.
Post graduation I worked at an insurance firm since it was the first role I was offered. Didn’t really like it but stayed about a year.
Worked at an investment management firm as a broker. Stayed for 21 months. The role was a call center environment and was not a good fit for what I was looking for. Struggled to get a promotion. Was ultimately fired
Took a job not long after doing the same thing at another broker. Was there for about 10 months. Was also fired over a weird reason elaborated further below but the broker sold their practice to a larger broker-dealer which I think factored in the decision.
After this I was feeling pretty down and lacking confidence in finding a career in business. I decided to try my hand at Computer Science and studied math and computer science at a local community college. Took a night shift job to cover cost of living after a semester. COVID hit and I decided it was best to not take hard math and computer science classes in an online environment.
After much deliberation, I explored and decided to attend a Masters in Finance program as a mini-MBA. I found a program that would suit me well and still had in-person options. Graduated in a year.
Accepted a job offer at a regional bank (in the S&P 500) working in Corporate Finance; specifically Corporate Profitability Analytics. The role is more data related and has me using SQL, Power BI, and other data related software/programs in addition to Excel. Currently 1.5 years in. Have been doing well and hoping to be able to gain a promotion soon although the company is sort of cheap when it comes to this sort of thing. While I don’t mind my current work, it is niche and not something I find particularly interesting outside of the skillset I’ve been able to gain.
If I weren’t considering applying to an MBA I’d probably start searching for other opportunities, however, I also realize that with my pre-MSF experience, the job hopping doesn’t look good and there will be more benefit to sticking with the company for almost 3 years at the start of the program and having a promotion under my belt.
MBA Info
· Why I want an MBA:
· Short-term I’m hoping to pivot into management/strategy consulting for my longer-term goal of being able to be a leader in my community. I would want to pivot into starting my own non-profit firm where I help members of low-income communities and URM owned businesses grow with the knowledge I gain from my consulting experience. I also think consulting would help with my eclectic nature and help with preventing the need to job hop given constantly being in new environments (probs wont mention this in an application though)
· Why I want one now:
· My current role is pretty niche in the banking industry. I’m afraid of being pigeonholed and the skillset I’m gaining, while desirable, isn’t necessarily one I see that aligns with my long-term goals.
· Target schools:
· Planning to apply through Consortium. Columbia (reach), Tuck, Yale, NYU, UVA, Rochester (safety school). Also open to applying outside of Consortium or changing the schools I apply to if better fit is recommended.
Background
· Work experience (starting from most recent)
· Nov 2021-Present; Corporate Financial Analyst at regional bank in S&P 500*.*
· I work in Corporate Profitability Analytics. While my title is a Financial Analyst, skillset wise, I would say my role is closer to a data analyst. I utilize SQL, Power BI, Excel, and other software to help develop, design and refine models to allow the bank to conduct data driven research in regards to the profitability of the bank. I develop and maintain reports and dashboards to disseminate information to executives and other relevant stakeholders and field questions and concerns related to the information.
· Oct 2020 – Aug 2020; Masters in Finance student at a state school
· This served as a mini-MBA for me. In my previous roles prior to this program, I was a bad fit as the roles were far too customer service oriented and led to me being fired from 2 of the roles and me quitting before I could be fired from another.
· December 2019 – July 2020 Bi-Lingual Fraud Representative at a large Credit Card Company (Capital One/DiscoveAmex type)
· This was a role I took on while I was considering a career switch into Computer Science/Financial Engineering. The role was a night shift and allowed me to work while taking classes.
· Left the role on my own terms as I wanted time to prepare for my Masters in Finance program
· Aug 2019 – March 2019; Math/Comp Sci student at community college
· Attended a local community college where I was majoring in Math/Computer Science as I was considering a career switch during a crisis of confidence. Took math, programming and engineering classes while attending. COVID struck during second semester and decided that taking a STEM heavy course load online was not optimal for me.Around this time, I decided to look into MBA’s and Masters in Finance programs. One MBA program (Rochester) really wanted me to apply there, but overall, I felt the MSF suited me better for my experience and where I was at in life. It would allow me to keep the MBA in the back pocket for any other potential switches.
· Oct 2018 – Jul 2019; Licensed Investment Professional at a Broker-Dealer
· Worked as a Series 7 and Series 63 licensed contractor. The company is large and serves a specified client base but did not have a large broker-dealer segment. Took a hands-on approach in all aspects of wealth and asset management: consulting and educating investors in mutual fund options and other products to help meet financial goals.
· Consistently led entire department in relationship management and engagement metrics: survey responses, survey scores, and new business development through sales referrals to advisory consultants in a fast-paced environment
· Consistently led entire department in operations and efficiency metrics while exceeding accuracy requirements and adhering to legal compliance through attention to detail
· Ended up being fired after a client complained to a friend of his in the Board of Directors that I wouldn’t help them with something that was not possible. The company ended up being bought out by a larger broker-dealer during that same month and they had been letting contractors expire w/out being renewed. I am under the impression they were downsizing regardless. I understand this section is speculative and would most likely omit it from any actual application.
·
· Nov 2016 – Aug 2018; Licensed Investment Professional at a top Broker-Dealer (PIMCO/Vanguard/Schwab type)
· Similar functional duties as other broker-dealer. In addition to those duties, demonstrated leadership and ability to work collaboratively through training and development of new hires, presentation of materials and investment methodology for new hires in multiple meetings, coaching, and mentorship of peers
· Voluntarily cross-trained and developed skills from higher level departments in order to liaison with those departments and assist in their service levels and learn new skills
· Consistently led the department in efficiency metrics such as calls taken and average handle time while maintaining high accuracy
· Ended up being placed on a performance improvement plan without warning and subsequently fired by my manager not long after. This happened after she found out I was looking into other companies as I was feeling dissatisfied with my lack of promotion. I had talked about seeking other roles within the company that would be less customer service oriented and she said she was supportive of that. When I would apply to jobs that were more in line with what I was looking for in the company, I would get great feedback from the interviewers. They would then ask my current manager for feedback and after that I would seemingly get rejected. I understand this section is speculative and would most likely omit it from any actual application.
· Aug 2015 – Jul 2016 Workers Compensation Insurance Adjuster at a top firm (Travelers/Hartford/Zurich type)
· Under minimal supervision interpreted and applied insurance contract policies exercising sound judgment in order to quickly reach outcome of fraud investigation while still maintaining high quality and meeting regulatory audits and requirements.
· Knowledgeable point of reference and correspondence for witnesses, agents, other insurance companies, medical providers, attorneys, and others.
· Utilized discipline, self-motivation and strong organizational skills to properly handle multiple tasks for proper case management of existing claims as a full caseload was often 100+ claims.
· Worked with internal partners on a special project to help conduct and report data driven risk analysis by identifying patterns and industry trends and researching strategies to reduce negative trends; provided qualitative feedback/analysis as an adjuster.
· Consistently led the department in client survey feedback in both number of survey responses and survey scores (never received less than a 9). Won the monthly competition 7 of the 8 months it was in place.
· Left on my own terms. Realized early on into the job that the insurance industry was not interesting to me nor where I wanted to be. Once I received a job offer from an Investment Management company, I put in my two weeks.
· Extra curriculars and other experience:
· I’m a religious individual. During undergrad I was very involved with my church in its ministry and even interned there. Since graduating, I have been heavily involved in youth ministry in poor areas that are heavily minority. I have a particular calling to kids of these backgrounds because I used to from a similar background and know many of them don’t see enough positive male role models who have been able to overcome many of the trappings that growing up in less-than-optimal conditions can provide. In this role, I am able to connect with youth and facilitate conversation about life, faith, and development with them.
· I also serve as a member of the Finance Council and Development Advisory Board of a local church. In these roles I take part in creating and monitoring budgeting and finances of the church as well as developing ideas to raise revenue and seek out potential tithing partners.
· Undergrad school/major:
· State School ranked outside of top 200. Double majored in Political Science and Business Economics
· Chose to attend there due to full-ride scholarships. Did not realize the importance of choosing certain colleges for certain career paths
· Other education/coursework:
· Masters in Finance at state school w/top 50 business program
· Graduated with a 3.5 GPA
· Race/nationality:
· Primarily Hispanic (mixed w/other minorities but not sure how it classifies)
· Sex:
· M
Stats
· GMAT Score: Include breakdown
· 670 (42q/40v). Looking/probably need to retake as it may expire soon. Think I can score 700+ since I took this before taking math/computer science classes at community college
· Undergrad GPA:
· 3.41 for Bachelors. (3.6 at community college)
· Grad School GPA
· 3.5

| 06/02/2023 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover. — Exod 12:11 Get up, go away! For this is not your resting place ( Mic 2:10).—For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come ( Heb 13:14).—There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God ( Heb 4:9). Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them ( Luke 12:35-37).—Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming ( 1 Pet 1:13).—Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. ( Phil 3:13-15). Evening Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup. — Ps 16:5 Heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ ( Rom 8:17).—All things are yours ( Cor 3:21).—My beloved is mine ( Song 2:16).—The Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me ( Gal 2:20). The Lord said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites. ( Num 18:20). Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever ( Ps 73:25-26). Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. ( Ps 23:4).—That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day ( 2 Tim 1:12). You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land ( Ps 63:1). submitted by UnDead_Ted to TheDailyDose [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 14:57 upbstock preeeeeeeeeeeeeperrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The strength of the labor market has, for the most part, been surprising to the upside since the economy rebounded from the pandemic shock in March-April 2020. While that may be good news for workers, it's not what the Federal Reserve wants. Chair Jerome Powell has emphasized that the labor market remains unsustainably tight, and supply and demand need to get into better balance for inflation to retreat toward the Fed's 2% goal.
Bigger picture: Some recent data has pointed to a continued robust labor market. Wednesday's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Report showed an unexpectedly large increase in job openings, and Thursday's ADP Jobs Report also came in stronger than anticipated. For today's figures, the economist consensus expects 180K more jobs were added to the U.S. economy in May, which is still strong but a slower pace of growth, down from the 253K added in April. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate is expected to tick up to 3.5% from 3.4% in April, while average hourly earnings are forecast to grow 0.3% M/M.
Even if today's jobs figure show stronger than expected gains, which has happened nearly every month over the past year, it may not matter - unless the number really blows it out of the water. As mentioned previously on WSB, Fed officials like Patrick Harker and Philip Jefferson are calling for a pause to the rate hiking cycle this month, before making further decisions about the "extent of additional policy firming." Odds of pause have also rocketed higher on CME's FedWatch Tool, climbing to nearly 80% yesterday, from only 35% a week ago.
Commentary: While the labor market has remained surprisingly tight since the Fed started raising rates, SA analyst Damir Tokic takes an opposing view, expecting that it will start to turn negative soon. Temporary help service jobs have been falling since December 2022, currently declining at 3%-4% per month, signaling that "it is very likely that we are in a recession, or near one," he said. "The discretionary sector is likely to sell off as the overly optimistic earnings expectations get revised lower." (6 comments)
Averting default
Late last night, the U.S. Senate passed a debt ceiling package by a vote of 63-36, sending the legislation to the president's desk in time to stave off a catastrophic default. The bill suspends the debt limit until Jan. 1, 2025, in exchange for some measures that cap non-defense discretionary spending, stiffen work requirements for some recipients of food assistance, and allow the Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline. "No one gets everything they want in a negotiation, but make no mistake: this bipartisan agreement is a big win for our economy and the American people," President Biden said via tweet. "Our work is far from finished, but I look forward to signing this bill into law as soon as possible and addressing the American people directly tomorrow." (70 comments)
Groundwater disappears
In what might be a harbinger for the housing boom in the American West, Arizona is limiting approvals for new developments within the Phoenix area. A study found that around 4% of the area's demand for groundwater, close to 4.9M acre-feet, cannot be met over the next century, threatening to dampen the explosive development that has made the city one of the fastest-growing metropolitan regions in the country. Besides the groundwater crisis, Arizona has also faced significant shortages of its surface water allocation, with a recent deal cutting usage from the drought-stricken Colorado River. Investing Group Leader Ian Bezek covers the situation in Global Water Resources: Why I'm Not Worried About The Phoenix Housing Downturn. The article on GWRS is from a year ago, but SA users are still discussing it in the comments section.
Reality check
Taking aim at Apple (AAPL) before next week's expected unveiling of a mixed reality headset, Meta Platforms (META) had its own product announcement to make ahead of WWDC 2023. The company's Meta Quest 3 offers a slimmer form factor, but also higher resolution, stronger performance and "breakthrough Meta Reality technology." The 128GB headset will start at $499.99, with an additional storage version also available for purchase. That's a big price differential from Apple's headset, which is expected to come in at around $3,000, and be initially aimed at software developers and enthusiasts versus regular consumers. 2023.06.02 13:54 MCThrAwa A comprehensive update on the Ripple trial
I started to lose track, so I thought I'd share an update with you. The parts are taken from a paywalled article on Seeking Alpha by James Foord.
What's happening:
The long-lasting legal brawl between the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple Labs, the firm behind the popular cryptocurrency XRP (XRP-USD), has taken interesting turns over time. Regulators, interested parties, and the crypto community have waited for more than two years to hear the final verdict. The outcome of the lawsuit is considered an important factor in determining the future of crypto regulation and giving a clearer picture of where securities laws apply in crypto token offerings. Analysts and top crypto lawyers suggest that a summary judgment ruling may be imminent.
The Hinman Document Fiasko:
In the course of the SEC-vs-Ripple legal battle, several motions filed by the SEC have been denied by the courts. The SEC had earlier filed a motion, in December 2022, to block Ripple Labs from having access to compiled documents related to the controversial June 2018 speech made by SEC's former Corporation Finance director William Hinman at the Yahoo Finance All Markets Summit.
The Hinman Speech Documents, which the SEC had sought to seal, are made up of internal emails, memos, text messages, and expert opinions that followed the Hinman 2018 speech, in which Hinman stated:
Putting aside the fundraising that accompanied the creation of Ether, based on my understanding of the present state of Ether, the Ethereum network, and its decentralized structure, current offers and sales of Ether are not securities transactions. Source: William Hinman
The SEC has called the controversial speech "Hinman's own opinion, which does not represent the opinion of the SEC."
The SEC has long argued that the Hinman Speech Documents are irrelevant to the case and should be sealed; however, Judge Analisa Torres, on May 16, denied the SEC's motion to seal the documents, meaning the documents will eventually be made public.
Top Lawyers Weigh In
Based on analysis by top crypto lawyers, the next logical step to follow Judge Torres' denial of the SEC's motion to seal the Hinman documents will be for both parties - the SEC and Ripple Labs - to reach an agreement on how and when the Hinman documents will be released.
A notable Australian-based and pro-XRP lawyer, Attorney Bill Morgan, has asserted that XRP cannot be deemed a security by the SEC. Attorney Morgan hinted at the fact that Ripple Labs has transitioned from institutional sales of XRP to sales to On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) clients. The attorney said XRP use in ODL does not satisfy any of the elements of the Howey Test.
Attorney John Deaton, the founder of CryptoLaw, weighed in on the probable outcome of the lawsuit. Deaton pointed to the 2018 Hinman speech, calling it a speech that has a lot of input from top SEC officials to be called Hinman's personal opinion. According to Attorney Deaton, the Hinman Speech Documents comprise a total of 63 emails and 52 unique drafts from top SEC officials, which he calls "a lot for a personal opinion."
Attorney Fred Rispoli, the founder of HODL Law, a law firm dedicated to the unique issues of digital assets and cryptocurrencies, believes that Ripple Labs has a better chance of winning the case against the SEC. He also believes that a summary judgment ruling is near. He shared his insights in an interview with Tony Edward of the Thinking Crypto podcast.
Expensive Lawsuit
According to a CNBC news report, Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple Labs, revealed to CNBC's Dan Murphy in a fireside chat at the Dubai Fintech Summit that by the end of the legal brawl with the SEC, Ripple Labs will have spent $200 million.
Crypto Tokens Can Evolve
We have witnessed instances when a crypto coin or token supposedly transitions from being a security to a non-security. Polkadot, for example, is one of the tokens that have made this transition, according to the Web3 Foundation. In a Twitter thread posted on January 26, the Web3 Foundation announced that the Polkadot's native coin DOT (DOT-USD) had morphed into a non-security.
Using a similar argument, Attorney John Deaton asserted in a Twitter thread, published earlier this year, that XRP remains a "digital code" even if it was sold as an investment contract.
tl;dr: The case is expected to come to a conclusion soon (this time for real!) and it is looking quite good for Ripple.

2023.06.02 13:17 Theo_011 Uncover hidden gems: 3 promising penny stocks poised for soaring success in 2023!
Paysign (PAYS)
Paysign ($PAYS) is a fast-growing microcap stock that effectively makes its mark in the payment solutions sector. The company specializes in payment processing for plasma donation centers, generating a whopping 90% of its sales from this niche. Since its debut in 2011, the company has witnessed remarkable growth, boasting a 40% market share of all plasma collection centers in the USA.
Furthermore, Paysign offers potent processing services and prepaid cards under its brand, catering to various target audiences. Hence, this versatility underscores Paysign’s adaptability in the ever-evolving payments sphere.
Paysign operates a robust business that has seen amazing revenue growth of 26.8% over the past five years. The company’s most recent year-over-year results have been even more impressive, with its top-line growth at more than 27%. Additionally, Paysign’s EBITDA growth totaled more than 830% over this period, a mind-boggling figure considering the current economic climate. On top of that, the company exited the first quarter this year with an eye-catching $6.4 million in cash, representing a 360% bump from December 2015.
VAALCO Energy (EGY)
Texas-based VAALCO Energy ($EGY) operates a small-cap hydrocarbon exploration business. Its upstream operations are primarily based in the Etame Marin block off the shores of Gabon. Energy markets have been erratic, but the geopolitical uncertainty we’ve seen of late demonstrates that things change quickly in this sector.
Nevertheless, despite the slowdown in its top-line growth, VAALCO operates a remarkably-profitable business that continues to impress. Year-over-year growth in both gross profit and EBITDA margins came in at a spectacular 63.6% and 41%, respectively. Also, EGY stock offers investors a healthy 4.8% dividend yield and a balance sheet that’s relatively pristine.
Furthermore, the addition of TransGlobe Energy brings a level of stability and consistent cash flow to the company’s typically-unpredictable offshore business. TransGlobe boasts a relatively stable track record of steady production and revenue, which can help mitigate the inherent risks associated with VAALCO’s core offshore operations.
Sirius XM (SIRI)
Sirius XM ($SIRI) stands out as a leading under-the-radar stock to wager on. As a top broadcasting company, it offers satellite and online radio services, a niche sector that took a major hit during the pandemic.
However, for the bold contrarian, Sirius XM presents as an intriguing long-term growth prospect. Over the long term, it could see a marked improvement in auto sales, particularly driven by a shift toward electrification. Unfortunately, the past few quarters have hurt Sirius’ business, as auto sales have declined amid high prices. However, a return to pre-pandemic life has led to almost a 60% increase in Vehicle Miles Traveled from April 2020 to March 2023, a positive long-term catalyst for SiriusXM.
Additionally, Sirius recently increased its full-year adjusted EBITDA and free cash flow guidance, another positive for the firm. Moreover, its stock trades at just 1.5 times forward sales estimates, 54% lower than its 5-year average.

2023.06.02 13:00 superkilometerfilter Highest Mileage Car – The Most Interesting and Impressive Models
| https://preview.redd.it/nwi170in1l3b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5ad22a28997ec574520227015201ed494138c61 If we look at the odometer of the highest mileage car of all time, we’ll be astonished, to say the least. Only one vehicle managed to break the records, yet other cars are also quite impressive. Their mileage exceeds what we perceive as normal substantially. These days, we frown upon the cars that have more than 200,000 miles on the clock. But for top mileage car and its counterparts, this number was simply an insignificant part of the journey. These vehicles drove across the US, collecting mileage without flinching an eye. Is mileage as important as we believed? We’ll figure that out below. WHICH ONE IS THE HIGHEST MILEAGE CAR IN THE WORLD? The most mileage car that reached all-time highest mileage is the 1966 Volvo P1800. The last reported mileage was 3.04 million miles, which is really hard to process. An average vehicle will last around 300,000 miles if we’re lucky. Somehow, the owner of the Volvo P1800, Irving Gordon managed to maintain the car for a whopping 3.04 million miles. Not surprisingly, the 1966 Volvo P1800 and its owner hold the Guinness World Record. According to Irving, the secret to making the car last so long is regular maintenance. He changed oil and transmission fluid frequently to enhance the lifespan of the vehicle. Truth be told, P1800 isn’t an ordinary vehicle either. Volvo created a real beast with this one. It was designed for long road trips and that’s exactly what Irving used it for. In other words, the combination of the caring owner and the characteristics of the car itself made it possible to cover 3 million miles without any trouble. After hearing about P1800, I’m sure you’ll start believing us next time we emphasize the importance of regular maintenance. 7 BEST HIGH MILEAGE CARS https://preview.redd.it/f1ik2n3p1l3b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59f3523255f53209186e76ddcf439ecfc1417e35 Even though no one managed to break the record set by Irving and Volvo P1800, other cars also exceeded everyone’s expectations. Below, you’ll find the list of the best high mileage cars that crossed the 1 million margin with ease. 1976 Mercedes 240D Even though the 1976 Mercedes 240D didn’t manage to beat the longest-range Volvo P1800, it came quite close. The owner of the 240D was a taxi driver who used the vehicle both for personal and business purposes. He hit 2.85 million miles in 2004. That’s when Mercedes recognized it as their longest-lived car and saved a special place for it in their museum. In return, the owner of the 240D received a brand-new C-Class. Sounds fair, doesn’t it? 1979 Volvo 245 GL Yes, we have yet another Volvo on this list. This time it’s their 1979 245GL. Even though it doesn’t have a special story attached to it, it’s still quite famous. With its durable components and indestructible design, 245 GL easily made it to 1.63 million miles. The company that owned this vehicle claims that they didn’t do anything special apart from following regular maintenance schedules. Maybe purchasing an old Volvo isn’t that bad of an idea after all. 1963 Plymouth Fury Next, we have 1963 Plymouth Fury with 1.62 million miles. Unlike other vehicles on this list, the Fury was the least fortunate out of all. It would surely beat the Guinness World Record in 1999, but it was hit by a truck. The Fury didn’t survive and failed to break the record. 1963 Volkswagen Beetle We wouldn’t necessarily expect a Volkswagen Beetle to be a reliable top mileage car. Yet it surprised us in the best way possible. The 1963 release of this model lasted for 1.61 million miles. However, the owner didn’t achieve this result with the original engine. In fact, he had to go through 7 motor swaps to make the vehicle last. If you’re not sure whether the engine replacement is worth the money or not, take a closer look at the Volkswagen Beetle. 1983 Lincoln Town Car Another remarkable model on this list is the 1983 Lincoln Town Car. This fella traveled 1.3 million miles throughout its life. The owner claims that they didn’t have to do any major repairs. We don’t know if that’s true or not, but we know that they really loved driving. 1991 Chevrolet C1500 1991 Chevrolet C1500 is relatively new compared to other models, yet its owner still managed to reach around 1.29 million miles. He drove around 200 miles every day to deliver seafood. Such a long commute is the main reason why his C1500 managed to cross the million-mile mark. 1966 Mercedes 250SE Finally, 1966 Mercedes 250SE accumulated 1.28 million miles throughout its life. It’s quite different from the newer Mercedes models that break down quite easily. However, even the 250SE had to go through major repairs to cross the million-mile mark. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF OWNING MOST MILEAGE CAR? Owning the best mileage car in world is beneficial as it makes you famous, stays by your side for a long time, and turns driving into a fun and enjoyable journey. It makes you and your vehicle famous Crossing even a 500,000-mile margin is a great achievement these days. Imagine managing to rack up over 1 million miles! As soon as you exceed the life expectancy of the vehicle, you’ll become a cool guy among your friends. But as you achieve unimaginable numbers, you’ll surely become famous. Unfortunately, you might have a hard time achieving those results with newer releases. A top mileage car is a life-long companion A car with the highest mileage is a life-long companion as it lasts for decades. Sure, you’ll have to maintain it religiously, however, your investments will pay off. But if you prefer changing cars frequently, this might even be a drawback. It makes driving challenging and interesting If you’re someone who is always looking for challenges, then turning your car into the highest mileage model could be an interesting thing for you. Why own an ordinary car when you can have one of the most famous models? WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS OF HAVING A HIGH-MILEAGE VEHICLE? Alternatively, owning a high-mileage vehicle can have multiple drawbacks, including the risks of breaking down, difficulties connected with reselling, and expenses. You don’t know when it’s going to break down The most mileage car ever recorded will be quite old – you won’t be able to rack up 1 million miles on a vehicle that was released in 2020 or 2021. Therefore, you won’t be able to predict when something will break down. Unpredictability is probably one of the major drawbacks of the highest mileage vehicles. You might have a hard time selling it According to Forbes, the sales of high-mileage cars have increased during the last year. However, it still doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to sell the highest mileage vehicle easily. Plus, the famous cars that made history are already in the museums. Therefore, beating existing records and making a name is already a challenging task. Reselling such a vehicle is even more difficult. It can be quite expensive to maintain As we’ve seen above, the best mileage car in world made it so long because the owner maintained it religiously. Even though regular maintenance is crucial one way or another, such cars require even more attention. If you skip changing the oil or neglect the signs of damage, you won’t be able to keep the car for so long. HOW DO PEOPLE MANIPULATE MILEAGE? As a rule, people manipulate mileage with the help of various tools. Even though we’re amazed by the highest mileage models, people are still reluctant to purchase cars with high mileage. Trends might be changing, yet we can blame that entirely on Covid-19. The chances are things will be back to normal in a year or two. Consequently, people still manipulate mileage to increase sales. Mileage correction tools and mileage blocker devices are the main units they use. The former enables you to change mileage entirely, while the latter stops recording additional km. These two seem equally effective, yet things are quite different in reality. To be more precise, the mileage blocker is more effective as it doesn’t leave any trace. Its performance is impossible to detect even with a diagnostic tester. It’s an ethical tool that manufacturers created for testing purposes. Conversely, the effects of the odometer correction tools are quite easy to discover. You should remember that odometer clocking is an unethical business. It’s not the worst thing in the world if you have legit reasons, however, it can be illegal in certain states or countries. HOW CAN YOU USE THE MILEAGE BLOCKER WITH THE BEST MILEAGE CAR IN WORLD? https://preview.redd.it/jp9ddaas1l3b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12ee8d810012ce1fd30c5820c4b959eb55dd0e4b You can use the mileage blocker to test the performance of the best high mileage cars. Since these fellas require a lot of attention, we need to be extremely cautious with them. Buying a tool such as a kilometer stopper can be a great solution. It will help you check the performance of the engine or other components in a controlled environment. But it’s important to find a model that actually delivers desired results. Finding a high mileage blocker for sale is essential for safe and effective operation. FINAL TAKEAWAY It’s interesting to explore the highest mileage car and the models that came close to its records. Not only are they impressive, but they also show us a different perspective when it comes to mileage. However, it doesn’t mean that odometer figures aren’t important. Even the owners of the highest mileage vehicles admit the importance of regular maintenance and repairs. Thus, mileage manipulation still lingers on the automotive market. submitted by superkilometerfilter to u/superkilometerfilter [link] [comments] |
