Race Report Ottawa Marathon May 28,2023
2nd marathon. Previous and PB 3:46:53 (Quebec Marathon Oct 2022)
Location : Ottawa, ON Temperatures around 25-30 degrees Celsius
Time : 3:24:42
Goal A Sub 3:30. ✅
Goal B Sub 3:25. ✅

Training
My previous marathon I really didn’t have a plan and was probably running about 40-50km a week leading up with one long run of 29km and one of 25km, which probably led to my stress fracture after the Quebec Marathon
This time I followed the Higdon’s advanced marathon plan and logged about 1200km since January 2023. I feel the extra miles really helped, and I was better prepared, even if most of the time running was on the treadmill due to the extreme cold temperatures and snowfall where I live during winter.
Pre-race
Drank a Maurten 320 drink the night before. Breakfast consisted of Maurten 160 mix, toast with PB.
I had a race plan that a friend helped me create that prevented me from going out too fast, and crashing at the later stages
Race
The day was hot. It was a shock for me after running in temperatures less than 15 degrees Celsius for the last while. Temperatures hit close to 30, and it really had an effect.
I had a Maurten gel every 6km, and a nuun drink at every water station. One nuun drink and one cup of water dumped over my head to stay cool. This I feel helped me combat the heat as best I could
Really felt good for the majority of the race. Had a tight stomach cramp around 39km. Had to stretch it out and then carried on. I think the extra gel at 36km might’ve been too much
Post Race
Going to take 2 weeks off and really recover. Very happy with my results of this one but I do want to continue to improve. Summer and fall I can really take advantage of training because Winter is really tough at home. I may look into some coaching to really get the most of my efforts for the next few months. I was looking at a few Canadian online coaches and may reach out to see what my best option is.
I’m eyeing another marathon October 8th which should give me ample time to recover and train again

Okaaay, so we're still shaking after the game, and already shaking before next season. Time to wrap things up.
Let's start with the Ladies team, they finished 6th and deserve some recognition. I don't follow WSL much, so i'll help myself with BBC Sport Emma Sanders quote:
"Their form dipped in the final few months and they still lack consistency but given they were fighting relegation last year, this can be viewed as a very successful campaign and they have solid foundations to build on. "
Also worth noting, our Women's team played their last game away at City, were losing 3:0 but still managed to scare them by going 3:2, knowing these 3 points don't matter to our place in the table. Their lost their last game of the season but put up a fair fight.
U18:
First full season under Leighton Baines ended at 4th place in the Under-18 Premier League North.
“For our lads, the development comes before the winning,” he said. “The winning still has to matter because they’re getting older and closer to the real game. We create that environment on a Saturday as balanced as we can. We work on certain things during the week and we’re willing to practise them on the weekend, even if it may be to a detriment of the potential outcome.
“At the same time, the kids play football, and they want to win. We’re not trying to create an overly sanitised environment where they don’t know how to win and where they don’t know how to play under pressure. We find a balance of those two things. What I’ve been blessed with this year, is that the lads have built a really strong bond and team spirit. I think that’s been reflected in some of those comeback performances and the ability to dig in." - Leighton words on his first coaching season.

Since last report - Two draws against MU, draw against Newcastle, and a home win vs Stoke.
U19:
Also our u19 team played at Nawi Mumbai PL Next gen cup last two weeks, in which their ended third in their group and lost their playoff game to go further. Some games were played in 37'C heat.
U21:
Youngsters finished eight in the PL2 _ Division 1. What is more impressive, they managed to get to quarterfinals in the PL International Cup, beaten by the final winners PSV Eindhoven U21, and to 1/16 in both PL Cup and EFL Trophy(beaten by Senior Lincoln team). That was first Paul Tait season as U21 coach. Results went downwards after the january transfer window, when Tom Cannon went on loan, and Joe Anderson and Seb Quirk joined Sunderland and Accrington Stanley on permament transfers. Some words from the coach:
“It gave the boys a lot of confidence they could go on and play men’s football,” he explained. “The likes of Tom Cannon, Joe Anderson and Seb Quirk all got good moves
“Tom played against these experienced players in the Papa John’s and then went on to have a really successful loan spell at Preston North End.”
“It was a huge transition between January and March," he added. "Players went out and we needed replacements, but I felt we found our feet again towards the end of the season.
“It’s not easy for some of the Under-18s transitioning through. They can find the jump hard, but they’ve done well. We’ve had lads like Owen Barker, Halid Djankpata and Roman Dixon coming through and impressing.
“Roman joined us in the past few weeks and knows the level that is required now. It’s important for these players to experience it. Ishe Samuels-Smith has been with us since the start and has been brilliant, as have Katia Kouyate and Francis Okoronkwo.”
Since last loan report: Win and loss against Leicester, and Loss away vs Arsenal.
Loanees:
João Virgínia (SC Cambuur) - Last time on the bench - 21.04 - since then probably they were sure of the relegation and preferred their own players. Joao last game played was 21.01 and it was a bad one. Then he was benched, and changing of manager didn't help him either. Even when new first choice keeper made multiple blunders, manager kept with him. Contracted till 2024
Andre Gomes (Lille OSC) - He found his place and a manager that uses him well. Lille sits 4th which grants them Europe league, with one round to play next week. They have to win with already relegated Troyes, otherwise they might fall even to 6th. Andre Played 5 matches from the 7 Lille played since last report - 3 wins and 2 draw. One loss and win without Andre. To end it on a happy note, here are some highlights, with two goals as beautiful as Andre is. Recommended ! Contracted till 2024

Jarrad Branthwaite (PSV Eindhoven) - He's the hope for us, won the Cup, and ended second with PSV Eindhoven. After a rough start he became a natural starter. PSV would love to keep him, but they would have to break all the banks in Netherland. Contracted till 2025
Since last report: 7 games, all with Jarrad. 6 wins, 1 draw against Heerenveen, PSV last home game(That wasn't a great game by Jarrad, but that happens).

Niels Nkounkou (Saint-Etienne) - That's our Second French league hot cake, and definitely not a fullback. ASSE is 10th with one game to go, and still can finish form 12 to 6th. They were dancing with relegation zone when he came there. I wonder what comes next for this guy. 6 goals 7 assists since january.

Jean-Philipe Gbamin (Trabzonspor) - At least he's still involved in football, played in 4th of 5 matches since the last report. Always subbed on in the last 20 minutes. Two rounds to go. No idea about what to do with guy, but at least he's on the field sometimes. Contracted till 2024
Thomas Cannon (Preston North End) - After a great spell, with a lot of goals scored, there comes a slump. From 5 last games, PNE lost 4, and drew 1. Tom scored one goal in this time, against Swansea, but it meant nothing in the end (4:2 loss). PNE buried the small chance it had of getting to playoffs and finished 12th. 8 goals and 1 assist since January. His contract is valid till 2025.

Lewis Dobbin (Derby County) - Derby really lost their way at the end and landed in 7th place. Dobbin always played the role of a fresh energy sub, but didn't get an goal or an assist since the end of february. This season numbers: 3 goals, 1 penalty won, 4 assists. + one goal in a EFL Trophy, and one assist in a cup. He has a contract till 2025.
Lewis Warrington (Fleetwood Town) - 2 Wins, 2 losses, one draw since last report, all with Lewis playing. In terms of game time per season - clear winner, he missed only a few games. As a midfielder playing under Scott Brown, he surely learned something. Only one assist to his name, but also no red cards and no errors, and he mostly plays as the last midfielder, screening defence. Fleetwood Town ended season in 13th place. He could find a loan in the championship next year. Contracted till 2024
Ryan Astley (Accrington Stanley) - Haven't played since february, kept out by injuries. When healthy, played all the games he could. Accrington Stanley are relegated to League Two now, but i can see them, or even some League One club wanting him to play if healthy. He's out of contract this summer. Seb Quirk joined him and penned a deal with AS this january.
Lewis Gibson (Bristol Rovers) - I'm happy to finally see this kid play some football without injury. When he showed his quality, he quickly became a starter for BR, playing as CB and occasionally as LB. They ended 17th(5 losses and 2 draws since last report), and could sign him permamently as he's out of contract this summer. Surely some League One club will go for him.
Tyler Onyango (Forest Green Rovers) - He had to fight for his place during the Burton Albion loan, and played not regularly under Dino. Then he(with Everton club) took a gamble and sent him to Forest Green Rovers, to play under Big Dunc he knew very well. No one could have predicted the injury that kept him out after playing just 3 games for the Green team. Fun fact - Burton Albion fought against relegation when he was there, and they ended 15th, but Forest Green Rovers ended being relegated from the last place. He's 20y.o. contracted till 2025.
Harry Tyrer (Chester) - The National League North Team of the Season 2022/23
"The Everton loanee has had quite the season down CH1. Recruited last summer on a season-long deal, Tyrer was quick to show his key attributes.
His dominance inside the box was clear for all to see, as was his remarkable shot stopping. His distribution isn’t bad either – that assist for Kurt Willoughby’s winner at home to Bradford (PA) springs to mind!
A fan favourite from day one, his signature dive into the Chester fans after away victories became a highlight on the road. A record of 21 clean sheets in his 55 appearances isn’t bad either.
Harry evidently has a bright future in the game and has been a credit to the Blues both on and off the pitch – he will always be fondly remembered at the Deva." - Chester FC
Chester sadly lost against Brackley 0:1 in the promotion playoffs.
Harry has contract with the club till 2025
Thank You guys. Sorry for being chaotic, but with the relegation battle going on i couldn't focus on doing these regularly. It's gonna be a hard next season, but i look forward to how our academy will look like next year as changes made under Thelwell should be more evident.

In Nov of 2022 (it is currently the end of May 2023) I decided to take magic mushrooms with some friends for a birthday I was going to… little did I know it would completely fuck up my perception of life.
[DISCLAIMER] If you are taking ANY substances on medication, please, I beg of you, do a quick google search.
I was on fluoxetine (Prozac) for about 6 months before I ever decided to take shrooms. I had heard disclaimers and warnings of “possible side affects” between SSRIS and drugs, but me being the 17 year old I was, decided it was worth the risk. For the first 5 hours on 3 grams, I felt very energetic, happy, and relaxed, but for some reason, I felt off. Everyone else was having visuals and different (great) experiences, while I felt practically nothing besides Adrenaline. I was confused and even suggested to my friends that I was sober enough to drive and thankfully, they refused to let me get in the drivers seat. As your 6 hit, after eating a bit of food and everyone coming down, my vision started blurring, my brain felt foggy and I felt like shutting down. The last thing I remember was telling my friends “the shrooms are hitting” and if you’ve ever had the experience, you know it triggers other people’s trips when you announce the feeling.
From my friends recount of the situation)
I tightened up all of my muscles, especially my legs which had straightened out to the point that I was falling back in the chair that I was sitting in. Luckily, the designated sober friend and my roommate immediately jumped to their feet to help me and stopped me from injuring myself further. My eyes rolled to the back of my head and I was unresponsive for about 20 seconds (not long in the scheme of things)
I came to with only the voices of my friends and woke up extremely lethargic, unable to function normally, and in extreme cold sweats. I did end up throwing up a few times and it took me about 10 minutes to get back up on my feet. I went home, slept it off and woke up the morning shiny new.
This is where the unknown side affects come in: After the experience I became extremely sensitive to foods and eating, which makes it almost physically impossible to nourish myself. I wasn’t able to take simple bites of food because I would immediately gag/throw it up. Although I’m able to eat a bit more now, I usually can only eat one full meal before I feel sick. This has caused what we all know as an eating disorder, but not one of my choice.
2) I have been in constant dissasociation for about 7 months now. It is extremely hard for me to enjoy life to the fullest when I can’t grasp the beautiful scenery of nature or the simple comfort of a familiar smell. I have gained a hatred for myself , my surroundings , and my outlook on life. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to be normal again but if god exists, I hope to god that I will.
There is a lot more to say but I’m-hoping that I am not the only one.
Another (p.s): tips on how to enjoy life sober ? I only smoke we3d and most people would say that’s not concerning , but to this point , I feel like I can no longer enjoy my life in the same Lens of my body, almost as if a dark lens has overtaken me.

Hi everyone! I don't even know where to start! First of all sorry for bad grammar English is not my native language. I'm (43 m) my girlfriend (48 f) We are together for 5 years and we love each other. We are from a European country. We worked in an other country for over a year as an order picker, packer in a big warehouse. Everything was fine until 2021 December when she started feeling tired,dizzy she had no energy so we went to see a doctor. It turned out she has a big tumor in her uterus and the blood iron level was dangerously low we had to go to the hospital immediately. As she don't speak English I tried my best to translate so I had to go with her to the appointments . They tried medicine it didn't work after spiral still nothing she was loosing so much blood she needed surgery but the waiting list was 6 months. I was with her helping her out with everything. In the meantime our agency has enough for missing 2-3 days a week because of the appointments so we got fired se we lost our income plus accommodation as well. We decided to come back to our home country for surgery, It was 2022 February. We had some savings so we thought we will survive the surgery and recovery period and we will go back to work. We rented a cheap apartment for this period. Thank god the surgery went well and she slowly started healing. I was cooking baking cleaning done the clothes shopping etc. I have to mention this small cheap apartment was my first "home" in my life and I felt so happy , imagine your girlfriend your love is healing you can take care of her and you don't have to share the kitchen and the bathroom with others, it was like haven ❤️ Yes I didn't rush to find job when she was okay ( it was around August) yes it was my fault to not pushing go back to work but first time in my life I felt I have a home I was enjoying the freedom I can cook I can bake cakes cookies without asking others. Around October I realised I messed up, our saving almost disappeared rent and bills are coming and we don't have job. I immediately started to look for jobs but as I mentioned before my girlfriend don't speak English, she understands a lot but not really speak. In our country I can't get any proper paying job because I don't have any profession. December come and we still don't have any opportunity and we new we have to give up our little haven because we couldn't afford the rent.In January 2023 I contacted my sister for help, we loaned 2000€ to her and her husband early 2020 they promised they will pay it back in 6 months but after I transferred the money they don't even answered the phone, not replying for messages. Anyway I wrote to her to please help us, as we are in big trouble and just lend some money for me and I will pay it back as soon as I can. I don't care about the 2000€ just help us . Few days later she called me ,she said she is sorry but they don't have any spare money to borrow but we can have 1 room in their house and the can help with food. As we don't have other options we moved across the country we left a our little one bedroom apartment and come here and this my dear reader this was one of my biggest mistake in my life! This is a small village like 400 people middle of nowhere. We offered to cook, bake help with cleaning cutting wood for heating etc. Since we arrived they treating us like slaves, we have to make the food and cleaning washing clothes as they like. they just sitting smoking cigarette and giving us orders to do.. We have nothing for sale we have no money we have no job and even if I find something we don't have the money for travel or food we have no one for help and we don't know what to do to escape from this situation.we know we made a huge mistake We are probably depressed but we have each other we hold each other hand .we will never give up.i don't even know how reddit work , probably no one will read but I feel a bit better to write it down.

Writing this from a throwaway account to stay anonymous. I am a Pakistani citizen who got married to a Norwegian citizen in Pakistan in Jan 2022. He’s part of our wider family. We spent about 3 weeks together before he went back to Norway. Fast forward a few months, I was issued a 90 day visit visa to Norway which he sponsored. However, upon my arrival, he disowned me without giving any explanation. He distanced himself from me so I had to take accommodation in his father and step-mother’s home until there was some clarity. Neither myself nor my family were getting any clarity on the change of heart from my husband or his family. They were being ambiguous. As there was no breakthrough happening, my father in law put me on a flight along with his mother to send me to Portugal. We landed here about 2 months ago and since then I have been taking care of his mother with no end in sight to this plight. My mother eventually got in touch with my husband who advised that his step-mother highlighted to him that I am his cousin so he’s not comfortable marrying a cousin. My mother challenged him on that as I am not his direct cousin or anything, just part of wider family. He was also made aware of family ties within the family and we saw each other so this is an odd reason. Upon learning about the interaction between my husband and my mother, a couple of days ago, my husband’s grandmother asked me to pack my bags and leave the accommodation. I left for a hotel and now staying here until I find a more suitable accommodation. My family is supporting me financially, emotionally, however, I now want to understand my options against my husband as I want an end to this ordeal. If anyone is familiar with Norwegian family law or can help direct me to any kind of help, that’ll be great.

I feel as if I haven’t gotten better, hell maybe even worse. I’m 14 and I’ve been struggling with my mental health for a while. I was in an attempted car hijacking at 8 and it gave me PTSD. I only started getting help for it when I was 12. From ages 8-11 I had nightmares and flashbacks almost every day and never told anyone because I was told to stop talking about what happened by my teacher. I really started to get bad when I turned 12. Was self harming almost everyday and heavily depressed. Ended up in the hospital because I was going to jump off a building but my dad took me to the ER before I had the chance. When I was 13 that was the first time I attempted suicide. Also developed an eating disorder at that time. Summer of 2022 was when it got horrible. Found out my mom had to get surgery to find out if she had cancer. Attempted suicide 10 times that summer. School started in august and had a manic episode, caffeine everyday and would wander around to places I didn’t know at 6am in the morning. Used benzos for the first time. In September I went to school right after I overdosed, my parents found out so they called an ambulance. Was in the hospital for 3 days and got sent to a psych ward. Was doing okay but in January I was using a lot of benzos. I was using so much I can barely remember anything from that month. Finally stopped doing them and in February was just chilling and using shrooms. In April I tried to runaway from home but ended up calling 911 on myself since I cut myself to deep on the side of the road 10 miles away from my house. Also did more harsher drugs like acid and mdma, almost did coke which I’m grateful I didn’t. All this chaos that happened just gives me the idea I’m not and I won’t get better.

Before anybody starts berating me or anything, here’s the story. My aunt got injured in a car accident back in Summer 2022. The story is she was outside on her driveway, and supposedly she forgot to put the brakes on her car while she was outside of it, so it started rolling away.
She chased after it trying to get inside of it in order to put the breaks on, and she wound up getting dragged with it down the road before somebody came running to help her and stopped rhe car. She had to be rushed to the hospital to be treated for all of the injuries she had received, and my mom, who is a former medical tenchnologist, had to travel to where she lives with my uncle for a few weeks to help out, and also help my aunt and uncle with any issues they might not understand involving the hospital.
Along with being treated for her injuries from the accident, it was also discovered that she had kidney problems and had to be put on dialysis while also in recovery. She was supposed to have caretakers who were supposed come over to her home to help in her recovery and make sure shes doing fine, but after awhile they stopped coming with the company they work for excuse is that since she has her husband there with her he can do what they were supposed to be doing instead.
Now here it is nearly a whole entire year later, and instead of having gotten even slightly better than when she started out since the accident, or even close to being better, it sounds like it’s become worse. She can barely walk anymore without being in constant pain, some of her old car accident injuries are filled with fluid, still on dialysis, etc.
Medical care supposedly sucks where she lives as the reason it’s gotten to this stage, so everybody is talking about her coming to where we live where medical care is way better, and she’s going to be staying with us while that happens. Though supposedly its going to take months for her to get into the system, while her husband goes on a trip for business or something, which is another reason why shes coming here, because she can’t be left alone in her condition.
I ask AITA because, from though I care about the lady, and do want her to get better, but from past experience when she stays here, shes annoying as hell. She always screams and yells at banshee level volumes when she gets excited (or any other emotion) about something no matter what is going around her.
She’s always bossy, and thinks she’s in charge of everybody and everything around her, and is still even trying to boss around her multiple youngeolder siblings (who are all like in their 60s-70’s now) like she really thinks they are going to do what she wants just because she says so.
She also sceeeches like a banshee when she’s talking/yelling at them, not caring she’s bothering everybody else around her with her screeching, like she thinks its going to make the person she screeches at do what she wants, and raises her voice louder when they try and argue or talk over her. Some times she can get so loud you can actually hear her all the way to the other side of the house, even with the bedroom doors closed. She’ll even do it on the phone, and won’t stop yelling even if you ask her to, once she gets into whatever it is that started her yelling.
Right now in my house, is my mom, dad, uncle and me living here. My mom said that whenever my aunt gets here the four of us would be helping her out with whatever she needs to help her recover.
i don’t want to ‘help out’ plain and simple. Especially not with all the problems she’s suffering from because of her accident. She’ll need constant care while she’s here, and seeing how she’s been like in the past before the accident, I don’t want to have to put up with it if she’s gotten worse since then. Especially since I am the youngest in the household, it sounds like I will have to do most of the work of taking care of her when the other three aren’t around.

I won.
However. In 2020, a hurricane hit and devastated the home I was kicked out of, and its in an area that gets devastated so often, FEMA stopped offering protection.
This area is incredibly poor, and the only reason many people own homes there is because it belonged to their daddy's daddy's daddy and property tax doesnt apply if you're under the poverty line.
In 2021, after I had already begun the disablitly application process, I was contacted by my family demanding that I sign succession papers so that my abuser could afford to get the house repaired because it technically currently belonged to a dead person.
I wasnt given any other option. I wasnt informed in the slightest. I only signed them to make people stop bringing my abuser up to me.
But now I own half of a house I was kicked out of.
This stopped me from getting my money. I didnt know it would. I was told that i'd be protected under clause B and C of the Social Security Property exemption act (or something. its 4am. ill provide proper links later.)
because 1. The other owner is an abuser and i'll die if I enter that house again.
and 2. If I managed to sell my half of the property, my abuser would be made homeless.
I cant afford to buy it off of them
The abuser cannot afford to buy it off of me.

Hey, Reddit! I'm in a bit of a complicated situation and could really use some advice. Back in December 2022, I met a girl at a party who I'll refer to as Gwen. At that time, I was going through a rough patch with intense anxiety (I had even attempted suicide the night before), and the only reason I went to the party was because a friend forced me to. Surprisingly, Gwen approached me and started a conversation. We hit it off and started hanging out more frequently.
One day, Gwen walked me home and said goodbye with a passionate kiss. After that, she started kissing me more often (though not always with tongue) and making sexual jokes about me. Sometimes, when we got drunk, she would even use affectionate nicknames like "sweetie" or "love." Over time, I began developing feelings for her. However, about a month ago, she moved to another city after finding a job at a restaurant. Since then, we've been talking much less, although we manage to meet up once a month when she visits.
While she's not as affectionate as before, Gwen still makes sexual jokes about me, saying things like "FUCK I WOULD BE LUCKY IF I COULD HAVE SEX WITH U" or "I wish u had an onlyfans." This was my fourth attempt. submitted by 0VERKlLL to UPSC [link] [comments] My earlier attempts have been like this: 2019 I had just graduated, did not sit. 2020 sat for the first time to test the waters. 49 in GS1, 110 in GS2. 2021 I cleared prelims, wrote mains under huge work load, family tragedy and breakup. 600/1750. 2022 April I resigned. Attaching the marksheet. Cleared GS1 cutoff, failed CSAT. 2022 marsheet that I had missed adding, so reposting I had worked, really really hard this time. Never had I put in as much effort in anything. But it's all over. Another year of life wasted. All my friends are in IT, making tons of money and living a good lifestyle. They are getting married. And me? Well, just stuck at home. I have amazing parents, they have supported my decisions through and through and sacrificed a lot for me. I don't deserve such parents. Probably I wouldn't be half as good when it's my turn. But their face when I told them last night that it is CSAT, AGAIN... I don't want to see that face ever again. My dad accompanied me to the center. They do not understand completely how tough this exam is or what this even is and I don't blame them. But that disappointment. I cannot give them that anymore. They were happier with me having a proper career than chasing big dreams. I have 2 attempts left. I don't know if I can go on anymore. I fucked up my well established IT career to pursue this. Relatives, friends and to keep telling them yeah I failed, again... IDK how to face people. I am shut in the room since yesterday. |
