Why take out pet insurance? A priori, the pet insurance is not a constraint to which we must submit. It must also be admitted, the question is not among the top priorities of the French. But those who have had to take their pets to a vet for a serious enough reason readily understand why coverage is worth it. With veterinary bills that will easily search in thousand euros, it is clear that pet insurance will always be useful.

This is a minor embarrassing question but I don’t have anyone to ask and calling the insurance company takes way to long for a simple answer. Also the people I have asked don’t have an answer for me. So I have kia forte right now my insurance is set to renew at the of June. I currently have full coverage for 995$ every 6 months. If I drop it to liability it’s 800$ every 6 months. I have a rav4 coming soon and I want full coverage on it (quoted 1114$) If I renew my kia with liability then when the new car comes put it on full coverage do I just have to pay the difference in price? or do I have to pay the whole full 1000$ again?

2023.06.03 14:15 brittmb95 Trupanion pet insurance denying our claim even after our vet submitted documentation stating ‘pre-existing’ condition did not exist

In March 2022 we adopted a Bernedoodle and immediately signed him up with Trupanion Pet Insurance.
In the months that followed we brought him to the vet multiple times, not because anything was seriously wrong with him, but because we were new pet owners and felt more comfortable getting professional advice on small issues and treating them properly than trusting the internet. For example, we brought him to the vet once because he would continually get his ears wet resulting in water being trapped and we wanted to make sure there was no infection. There ended up not being an infection and our vet sent us home with some ear cleaner and a protocol to keep his ears dry and clean them regularly.
We also quickly realized that we couldn’t keep him out of water, especially at the lake. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize that with him being wet constantly and not drying off properly, he was developing dry, itchy skin. Again, we took him to the vet to address the issue. The vet said to dry him completely after each swim and the issue should go away on it’s own. Worked like a charm.
Fast forward a year later, our Bernedoodle has now truly developed allergies that our vet says will likely be life long. He has been prescribed Apoquel, which is insanely expensive and will need to be on it long-term. The vet has also recommended a ton of expensive allergy testing to help narrow down his allergies so that we can avoid whatever is causing this. The total cost is in the thousands of dollars initially and the allergy medication will be a couple hundred dollars a month for the foreseeable future.
When I went to submit the allergy medication invoices to Trupanion as well as the pre approval for all the allergy testing I was denied on all fronts. They also told me that because this is a “pre-existing” condition that they will not be covering any expenses related to allergies. Our vet never diagnosed the dog with allergies and this is an inference that the insurance company is making (a false one at that). My vet even went so far as to write an appeal letter to the insurance company stating that in her professional opinion, none of the allergies are in any way related to the visits I stated above. Appeal denied.
This just isn’t sitting right with me and I’m not sure how to proceed, especially knowing that in order to alleviate my dogs suffering, it will cost me thousands upon thousands of dollars. What is the best way to proceed legally?
TLDR: Insurance company seems to be denying my claim in bad faith. Have appealed twice. The vet is in my corner and submitted a letter supporting the claim. Insurance company citing irrelevant vet history as basis for denial.

2023.06.03 09:17 JamesHowell91 How do our household outgoings look?

Thought I’d try and get a view of what our outgoings look like.
I pay annual in advance for my football season ticket (£530), our car tax (£570 plus £170 odd), my car insurance (£450) and our house insurance (£130).
HHI after pension 6,963
Joint bills
Mortgage (916) - 0.99% until Jan-27, 215k left
Kitchen (176) - interest-free 22m left
Octopus Energy (154) - tracker tariff
Water (24)
TV Licence (13)
BT Sport and Internet (66)
Council Tax (211) - payable only 10m of year
Pet Insurance (6)
My bills
Mobile (10) - SIM only
Swim (29)
Apple Storage (1)
Jaguar F-Pace (163) - 0% credit card payment
Wifey bills
Netflix (12)
Amazon Prime (8)
Car Insurance (38)
Mobile (10) - SIM only
Apple Storage (3)
Private Parking (62)
Clothes (202)
Remaining 4,862
I then allow myself spend of around £700 per month.
Wifey gets £1,400 as she does all the groceries (£500), beauty (£200) and her £700 general spending.
We are both in the office 5 days a week so within our £700 is circa. £150 of fuel costs each.
I know some of you are going to say wifey doesn’t need to have her hair and nails done every month and doesn’t need to treat herself to the odd designer item but she works and deserves to have the things that make her happy.
What is left goes into ISA and towards holidays.
Does anything here look disproportionate to what others are paying?

2023.06.03 09:05 DepartmentLeast4721 I Ruined My Husband's Birthday

I feel so terrible. This past weekend was my husband's birthday weekend and we went on a mini vacation we'd all been looking forward to for months. In a drive thru that neither I or my husband eat at, but we had stopped at for my son, he asks me if I want anything. I tell him I don't, I'll just eat an apple. I meant for now, while we went and found different food. We got into an argument and I told him I had just had one of my protein shakes, and he (despite them being high calorie) told me those don't count as food. We made up and, after resolving this and him telling me he was just scared and misunderstood what I was saying. I always eat dinner with the family, but I had just talked to the hospital where I have an upcoming operation, and found out how high my out of pocket after insurance is going to be, and was feeling guilty. After all of my therapy expenses, I tend to spiral into guilt. He thought I was going to take this out on myself by not eating.
Still, the next day, I couldn't bring myself to drink my calories anymore, since he didn't consider them food. These make up 1/3rd of my meal plan. Later that night, we somehow got into a talk about waste, and he told me that my chewing and spitting was wasteful, a habit I do every night. I don't even remember what led to that comment, and he didn't mean to be malicious about it, but it's already something I feel really guilty about, so I took it hard. I felt like we were arguing, whereas he felt like we were having a discussion. I told him I wouldn't do it....
It was the first time in four years I didn't do it. Now, I didn't have my exercise equipment, pets, protein drinks, etc... And I wake up the next day, already having planned out my breakfast. He comes downstairs and hands me a PB&J, and my son looks at me, expectantly. He also has one, as does my husband....
I was furious. I know he did it to be kind, but I was livid. He hugged me and told me how proud of me he was for eating it (It's a major fear food of mine) and I told him I had no choice, because he handed it to me in front of our very perceptive child. I was mean. I told him I just wanted to go home. Of course, he didn't understand, and was hurt. I felt like every coping mechanism I had was taken away from me, and I was not handling it well. I felt like a different person. We ended up going to our planned event for the day, and then drove home, in awkward silence.
Guilt is eating me alive about ruining his birthday. We keep having tiffs in front of our son. I keep thinking about how much better off he would be with a happier, successful wife, one who wasn't mentally ill. I took a picture of him and my best friend playing at the park with the kids, and, when I looked at it, I thought about how much better they would be as a couple than him being stuck with me. She's successful and cheerful. I'm dissociated half the time and just a money pit.
I have surgery in nine days and my dietician is worried that I wouldn't do well unless I put on some weight, and now I'm having a very difficult time eating. I feel so guilt ridden, so unworthy of this privileged life I have. I still spend a bizarre amount of time chewing and spitting each night....
I was doing so well for a while, and then things went downhill about a month ago, when our dog had an emergency that cost us a fortune to fix. My husband freaked out about how much we're spending, and I know so much of it is on me and my therapy etc....
Honestly, I thought I would have crawled out of this pit by now, but I feel like I'm (Harry Potter fans will get this reference) I have a Dementor following me. Today, I was considering buying some pretty bras, and, almost like the wind blowing, so subtle and just part of my personality that I almost felt it instead of heard it (as my inner negative monologue is almost pure emotion instead of words because it's become so enmeshed) "Ugly doesn't deserve pretty."
I know I need to do better for my son and husband. I still can't believe I went thirteen years in full recovery and then relapsed so hard... And, seven months after seeking help, I've just stagnated in purgatory.
Does anyone else feel like their eating disorder is fueled more so by guilt and a feeling worthless, with no intrinsic value, as opposed to anxiety about gaining weight? I almost feel like I would do better if I dropped therapy altogether so I stopped costing our family so much and could feel less guilty, but my husband is afraid I will die if I do that, and he wants his old wife back. I am completely unrecognizable from the person I was a year ago, and I am afraid she is gone forever.

2023.06.03 09:01 Brief-Deer-grace301 Insurance: Definition, How It Works, and Main Types of Policies

What Is Insurance?
Insurance is a contract, represented by a policy, in which a policyholder receives financial protection or reimbursement against losses from an insurance company. The company pools clients’ risks to make payments more affordable for the insured. Most people have some insurance: for their car, their house, their healthcare, or their life.
Insurance policies hedge against financial losses resulting from accidents, injury, or property damage. Insurance also helps cover costs associated with liability (legal responsibility) for damage or injury caused to a third party.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Insurance is a contract (policy) in which an insurer indemnifies another against losses from specific contingencies or perils.
There are many types of insurance policies. Life, health, homeowners, and auto are among the most common forms of insurance.
The core components that make up most insurance policies are the premium, deductible, and policy limits.
How Insurance Works
Many insurance policy types are available, and virtually any individual or business can find an insurance company willing to insure them—for a price. Common personal insurance policy types are auto, health, homeowners, and life insurance. Most individuals in the United States have at least one of these types of insurance, and car insurance is required by state law.
Businesses obtain insurance policies for field-specific risks, For example, a fast-food restaurant's policy may cover an employee injuries from cooking with a deep fryer. Medical malpractice insurance covers injury- or death-related liability claims resulting from the health care provider's negligence or malpractice. Businesses may be required by state law to buy specific insurance coverages.
Most insurance is regulated at the state level.
There are also insurance policies available for very specific needs, such as kidnap, ransom and extortion insurance (K&R), identity theft insurance, and wedding liability and cancellation insurance.
Insurance Policy Components
Understanding how insurance works can help you choose a policy. For instance, comprehensive coverage may or may not be the right type of auto insurance for you. Three components of any insurance type are the premium, policy limit, and deductible.
Premium
A policy’s premium is its price, typically a monthly cost. Often, an insurer takes multiple factors into account to set a premium. Here are a few examples:
Auto insurance premiums: Your history of property and auto claims, age and location, creditworthiness, and many other factors that may vary by state.
Home insurance premiums: The value of your home, personal belongings, location, claims history, and coverage amounts.
Health insurance premiums: Age, sex, location, health status, and coverage levels.
Life insurance premiums: Age, sex, tobacco use, health, and amount of coverage.
Much depends on the insurer's perception of your risk for a claim. For example, suppose you own several expensive automobiles and have a history of reckless driving. In that case, you will likely pay more for an auto policy than someone with a single midrange sedan and a perfect driving record. However, different insurers may charge different premiums for similar policies. So finding the price that is right for you requires some legwork.
Policy Limit
The policy limit is the maximum amount an insurer will pay for a covered loss under a policy. Maximums may be set per period (e.g., annual or policy term), per loss or injury, or over the life of the policy, also known as the lifetime maximum.
Typically, higher limits carry higher premiums. For a general life insurance policy, the maximum amount that the insurer will pay is referred to as the face value. This is the amount paid to your beneficiary upon your death.
The federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) prevents ACA-compliant plans from instituting a lifetime limit for essential healthcare benefits such as family planning, maternity services, and pediatric care.
Deductible
The deductible is a specific amount you pay out of pocket before the insurer pays a claim. Deductibles serve as deterrents to large volumes of small and insignificant claims.
For example, a $1,000 deductible means you pay the first $1,000 toward any claims. Suppose your car's damage totals $2,000. You pay the first $1,000, and your insurer pays the remaining $1,000.
Deductibles can apply per policy or claim, depending on the insurer and the type of policy. Health plans may have an individual deductible and a family deductible. Policies with high deductibles are typically less expensive because the high out-of-pocket expense generally results in fewer small claims.
Types of Insurance
There are many different types of insurance. Let’s look at the most important.
Health Insurance
Health insurance helps covers routine and emergency medical care costs, often with the option to add vision and dental services separately. In addition to an annual deductible, you may also pay copays and coinsurance, which are your fixed payments or percentage of a covered medical benefit after meeting the deductible. However, many preventive services may be covered for free before these are met.
Health insurance may be purchased from an insurance company, an insurance agent, the federal Health Insurance Marketplace, provided by an employer, or federal Medicare and Medicaid coverage.
The federal government no longer requires Americans to have health insurance, but in some states, such as California, you may pay a tax penalty if you don't have insurance.
If you have chronic health issues or need regular medical attention, look for a health insurance policy with a lower deductible. Though the annual premium is higher than a comparable policy with a higher deductible, less-expensive medical care year-round may be worth the tradeoff.
Home Insurance
Homeowners insurance (also known as home insurance) protects your home, other property structures, and personal possessions against natural disasters, unexpected damage, theft, and vandalism. Renter's insurance is another type of homeowners insurance.
Homeowner insurance won't cover floods or earthquakes, which you'll have to protect against separately.
Your lender or landlord will likely require you to have homeowners insurance coverage. Where homes are concerned, you don't have coverage or stop paying your insurance bill, your mortgage lender is allowed to buy homeowners insurance for you and charge you for it.
Auto Insurance
Auto insurance can help pay claims if you injure or damage someone else's property in a car accident, help pay for accident-related repairs on your vehicle, or repair or replace your vehicle if stolen, vandalized, or damaged by a natural disaster.
Instead of paying out of pocket for auto accidents and damage, people pay annual premiums to an auto insurance company. The company then pays all or most of the covered costs associated with an auto accident or other vehicle damage.
If you have a leased vehicle or borrowed money to buy a car, your lender or leasing dealership will likely require you to carry auto insurance. As with homeowners insurance, the lender may purchase insurance for you if necessary.
Life Insurance
A life insurance policy guarantees that the insurer pays a sum of money to your beneficiaries (such as a spouse or children) if you die. In exchange, you pay premiums during your lifetime.
There are two main types of life insurance. Term life insurance covers you for a specific period, such as 10 to 20 years. If you die during that period, your beneficiaries receive a payment. Permanent life insurance covers your whole life as long as you continue paying the premiums.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance covers the costs and losses associated with traveling, including trip cancellations or delays, coverage for emergency healthcare, injuries and evacuations, and damaged baggage, rental cars, and rental homes.
What Is Insurance?
Insurance is a way to manage your financial risks. When you buy insurance, you purchase protection against unexpected financial losses. The insurance company pays you or someone you choose if something bad occurs. If you have no insurance and an accident happens, you may be responsible for all related costs.
Why Is Insurance Important?
Insurance helps protect you, your family, and your assets. An insurer will help you cover the costs of unexpected and routine medical bills or hospitalization, accident damage to your car or injury of others, and home damage or theft of your belongings. An insurance policy can even provide your survivors with a lump-sum cash payment if you die. In short, insurance can offer peace of mind regarding unforeseen financial risks.
Is Insurance an Asset?
Depending on the type of life insurance policy and how it is used, permanent or variable life insurance could be considered a financial asset because it can build cash value or be converted into cash. Simply put, most permanent life insurance policies have the ability to build cash value over time.
The Bottom Line
Insurance helps to protect you and your family against unexpected financial costs and resulting debts or the risk of losing your assets. Insurance helps protect you from expensive lawsuits, injuries and damages, death, and even total losses of your car or home.
Sometimes, your state or lender may require you to carry insurance. Although there are many insurance policy types, some of the most common are life, health, homeowners, and auto. The right type of insurance for you will depend on your goals and financial situation.

2023.06.03 08:14 throwawaybleghnomas My husband was in a car accident and was found at fault even tough the other driver hit him

So long story short, back in 2022 my husband was driving when a truck pulled out over two lanes and slowed down in front of him causing my husband to swerve into the right lane. My husband maintained said lane and proceeded to pass the truck, but while passing the truck, the truck started to move into HIS lane and hit him. My husband was driving our tiny Honda and the guy was driving a lifted F-150. You can clearly see where he hit my husband. The police officer said they had someone review "the footage" and found my husband at fault. We tried to get the footage/pictures/officers dash cam/ recordings which HAVE TO BE GIVEN TO US and we were told that they were passed around and lost. My husband went to court and fought the ticket so will be going to state court (still don't know when that is) and we just received papers from our insurance company asking for the full liability amount or they will be coming after us for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also, the legal documents sent by this guys lawyer, referred to my husband as a HER?!? We will be talking to a lawyer tomorrow but do you have any advice? Do we have a case? Should we just settle then hire a lawyer for the ticket, win, and then sue them? I have never been in this situation before.

2023.06.03 06:32 RealAd1811 How should I handle my debt?

I am 30F.
I have $22.5k in student loans and make $52k per year (please be nice, I just went from a job from $44k to this position).
I currently live alone. My boyfriend is living with his parents in order to pay off his student loans, he has over $100k I believe. I want to pay them off ASAP and begin saving for a house and start a family by 35.
I have no other debts, no credit card debt, and have a $1k emergency fund.
Yearly gross income: $52k per year
Weekly net income: $700 per week (I get paid weekly now, just got my first check)
Savings: $1k
Debt: $22.5k in student loans
Monthly Expenses:
Rent 945
Internet/Mobile 55
Netflix 10
Apple 3
Electric 122
Plan to Eat 6
Gym 11
Auto Insurance 56
YouTube 12
Renter's Insurance 20
Charity 10
Gas 26
Therapy 30
Shopping 100
Gas & Fuel 200
Groceries 300
Fast Food 100
Mo Expenses Goal TTL: 2006
Mo Income: at least 2,800
I usually have a hard time hitting my budget targets in the food and shopping areas, but am working on it.
I am actually still applying to different jobs still, I had an interview for a $62k position yesterday. I also am curious about government work for the benefits, stability, and loan forgiveness. I don’t really want a second job, I’d rather spend my free time resting to perform well at work and also increase my knowledge in my career. I have mental health struggles and don’t think I can handle two jobs. I have a Communications and work in customer service, with light supply chain work (I could pursue a career in supply chain but not too excited about that).
I am hoping for the $20k student debt relief, that would be awesome.
Any tips?

2023.06.03 06:17 Annhil Starting a candle business

I'm starting a candle business. However I'm going to get my products from a manufacturer with private labeling. Do I need liability insurance or is it not needed since I'm not making the candles and didn't design them. For example if a fire starts in someone's house, with the candle I didnt make but has my private label, who is liable?

2023.06.03 06:10 pocketfulofmice How do you deal with constant intrusive thoughts?

I’m at a point in my life where my intrusive thoughts are debilitating. I cannot go five minutes with myself without having a barrage of them.
They’re the “if i don’t do this then…” ones which are awful. It was triggered by an event a few months ago where I had one that coincidentally came true after I ignored it and now I can’t stop entertaining them for fear something bad will happen.
At first my way with coping was to count down from three to make the thought invalid, but it quickly turned into a compulsion and it’s wreaking havoc on my mental health. I’m too afraid to “test” if my thoughts won’t come true because a lot of them have to do with the health of myself or my pets.
Is there any advice any of you can give me? I’m currently trying to seek therapy but my insurance is absolutely awful.

2023.06.03 06:02 the_addax I’m falling apart despite my efforts not to

I’ve been working as much as I possible can. But it’s still not enough, my rent went up, my pet got sick, my dad had a heart attack, I broke my tooth and tailbone. My doctor retired and can no longer prescribe me my ADHD medication, that I’ve been on for the past 13 years. I’ve been on a waiting list for a new doctor for two years (as I knew well in advance my doctor was retiring) and I’ve yet to hear back.
I’ve been on social assistance for insurance/to fill the gap when my job won’t give me hours. And today - on my birthday, they told me I’m in debt to them 🙃

2023.06.03 05:51 _depression101 Should I quit my internship?

I'm a second year mechanical engineering student going into my third year.
Right now I'm working two internships. We'll call them "manufacturing internship" and "design internship."
I started the manufacturing internship at the beginning of May for $17/hour x 40 hours per week. I really had my hopes up because in the job description, and during the interview process, my supervisor played up the role. I was under the impression that about 50% of the job would be tooling design, and the rest would be a combination process design, and other bits and bobs. Then I started the internship. I've done almost none of what was in the job description - I don't even have a Solidworks license to do tooling design. At the beginning, I did maybe a couple hours of tooling design because another engineer let me work on his computer ... and that's it, that's the only mechanical design experience I've gotten from this internship. When they say "process design," they mean "make travelers for the production runs." Then the other "bits and bobs" are literally 90% of the job: datasheets, organizing things, "verifying" information, and straight up faking missing data.
That's the other thing I dislike about this company: they're dishonest with the work they do. They're months behind on work, so to compensate, they outsource some products to outside vendors and resell it marked up 500%, and pass it off as their own. This in and of itself isn't bad, especially since it is pretty common practice... The problem comes when they fake data - they need to scan their products to make sure they meet certain optical requirements, but when they get something from an outside vendor, they just straight up fake the data... which is especially frustrating because they literally have the equipment to scan it, they just don't. This applies to their own products as well. Missing a scan? Fake data. The scan shows the product isn't up to spec? They "adjust" it. A customer requires a scan they're not capable of taking? More fake data. And they push a lot of this "faking" and "adjusting" onto me. It feels like the only reason they hired me was so they can push liability onto someone less significant, which is probably the case.
I can't get myself to stare at/make fake datasheets for 40 hours a week so I've been using python scripts to fast track the process. This opened up a huge amount of time in my schedule to do other stuff so I was hoping leverage that fact to get me on some tooling design projects or something of the like... but when I talked to them, they just told me they're having trouble getting a Solidworks license. So I've been following up (both via email and in person) literally every two days and I still don't have a CAD software to use... which is a common pattern. I bring something up and they'll "put me on a project," but I'll need XYZ to do that project and they'll never give me XYZ regardless of how many times I follow up... so I end up doing busywork.
To be honest, working here really beats me down. I'm barely getting any mechanical engineering experience, this position won't help me in my career, and I just feel very mislead and used. I hate this company and I'm here for no other reason than the money, and I will happily take it from them.
The design internship, on the other hand, has been much better. I got the offer about 1.5 weeks ago. I requested to be put on second shift with the manufacturing internship supervisor so I could take the first shift position at the design internship, and I started working at the new place a week ago. This past week I worked about 35 hours with the design internship and 25 hours with the manufacturing internship.
I'm confident that this new internship is better: I learned more there on my first day than I learned in my entire manufacturing internship. They pay $22/hour. For interns, they target about 50% of hours being billable work and 50% paid learning through various courses they have internally, and with other companies. I also get a 401k and health insurance. They have several other interns who have been there a while and can attest to the job being pretty accurate to the job description, and the whole team seems pretty honest in their work.
So anyway... my question is: do I keep my old manufacturing internship, or should I just migrate entirely over to the new design internship? Part of my motive for keeping the manufacturing internship is that I still (for some reason) have hope that I'll get some decent manufacturing experience / mechanical design experience related to manufacturing. Even though I plan on going more into the design side of things in my career, I think having some background in manufacturing is valuable because it gives you a more intimate understanding of how a factory floor works, which can help guide design decisions. I can also leverage that in future internships/jobs/interviews. My other main motive is money. I know money is not everything, but keeping the manufacturing internship means I'll have an additional $3000 in my pocket at the end of summer. This is the first time in my life I've been doing better than just breaking even and having that $3000 in my pocket is a lot to me. If I only work for the design internship, I'll still have a decent surplus for these next few months, but I kind of want to just suck it up this summer and work both internships for the extra $3000... even though just this one week at 60 hours + classes has kinda been eating away at me.
What would you do in my shoes? Any advice is appreciated
TLDR: I have a toxic relationship with an employer, then a new employer finally showed me what it's like to be treated right. I plan to pursue things with the new employer, but I'm not sure whether I should continue to dig gold from my first employer.
