2023.06.04 08:08 N7_SilverDrop Looking for fellow gamers - Longterm friends! (28/PC/US EST)
Hello everybody!
I am posting here again... Really am looking for some fellow people or even a good group of people who I can play games with or talk to long-term! So a little about me:
I really only play on PC. I feel like I am an easy going and kind person. I only really get upset if I am not playing well or lag. I live in the US and play most days. Love movies, animals, tech, burgers, Funko POPs, etc... I am married so you could be making two friends as I play with my SO from time to time. I can be a bit picky about games I play but don't mind at all trying new things. Except horror... LGBTQ+ and 420 friendly - if you are not LGBTQ friendly, probably best you scroll by.
Some of the games I love are: Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption 2, Skyrim, Destiny 2, Assassins Creed games (some of them), Star Wars series, Spider-man (both of them), Splinter Cell series, Halo, and that's all I can think of at the moment.
I am mainly playing Destiny 2 again and hoping to find someone that I can play with - bonus if you like playing PVP! I do have a clan that is great but they prefer PVE activities.
Would prefer linking up with people of similar age and like mindedness. I don't have any preferences where you are located but obviously same time zone would make playing/chatting easier. Dark humor is totally fine but just don't be crazy. Please only reach out if you are serious in maintaining a relationship and also don't mind sending the first message every once in awhile (HUGE pet peeve of mine if there is only one person initiating contact). Unfortunately, friends that I use to play with all the time just slowly drifted apart just due to the craziness of life. So looking for some new awesome people out there!
Now that this long winded post is coming to an end.. If anything that I said sounds interesting or something that you would be up for please reach out and I hope we can talk/play together soon. Stay classy :)

2023.06.04 07:52 schru031 (34F) met the One (37M) and it’s almost indescribable how good everything feels
I’ve had a lot of long term relationships over the years. I was always settling in some way, because I was. After an abusive relationship that ended in December, I was feeling pretty down about finding a forever at my age while I can still have kids.
A few months ago I met the One. It’s hard to find words that express how this feels. This instant recognition of forever in another person. Feeling more connected after we have a hard talk. I’d never call them fights. How sincerely he apologizes and mends anything between us. Having hot, emotionally connective sex several times a day. Better sex than I’ve ever had, by a landslide. The deep admiration for everything they are, how they are, their past, their demons. Knowing that you can get through anything together. Feeling so safe and peaceful, but excited beyond belief. You can’t wait to start the rest of your life together.
I moved in right away. He’s giddy whenever it comes up in conversation. He’s making me a ring, making. Taking classes to try to make the platinum band himself. He wants me to have something beautiful, and romantic, that I love.
He’s unabashed in his feelings and certainty about me. When I turn away, embarrassed I’m crying, he holds me and tells me he wants to be there for me in anything I’m going through. All of it.
I’d never wanted a wedding with anyone else. He hadn’t either. I thought it would be embarrassing to express love for someone else in front of people. With him, I crave it. Everyone needs to know. Everyone should see how in love we are.
We’ve had many moments where we cry simply talking about how much we love each other. How cute our kids will be. How we’ll raise them to be kind. He French braids my hair, and will if we have daughters, too.
He’s pansexual, has dated men, and does things like paints his nails and wears fun clothing/jewelry. I love those things about him. He feels like a best friend. But we’re also going motorcycle camping soon. We love so many of the same things. Our bond grows every day. Our first festival brought us so much closer. Not without obstacles, but we handle everything as a team.
He’s brilliant, gorgeous, kind, gentle, romantic, strong, supportive, clever, hardworking. And I’m in disbelief every day that he loves me the way he does. He loves telling people what he loves about me. I couldn’t have a better support system than him in one person. He’s truly in my corner. He tells me he wants to spend forever making me as happy as he can, every day. He’s asking people around him for marriage advice, wedding tips, and spending hours researching rings/weddings/pregnancy things. He’s working to build furniture for the house, he does stunning woodwork as a hobby. He went to one of the top, sometimes rated top, colleges in the world.
It’s hard to imagine not having him by your side. Everything before you met feels slightly dulled. It feels like having a new purpose in life, he feels the same. The reciprocity is hard to fully lean into just yet.
He thinks I’m hilarious, and I love making him laugh every day. He’s full of positivity and love. He loves to dance. He loves his family, who are quickly accepting me, deeply. He shows up for people, and is a great friend. He’s making plans for me to meet everyone in his life, and is antsy to meet everyone I love.
You’re up all night talking, connecting, learning about one another. Time flies. You’re both sleep deprived, but have an energy you can’t describe keeping you awake.
It’s the first time you’ve both felt like you haven’t had to settle in any area with a partner. Never settle.

2023.06.04 06:32 General_Standard_546 Renting: My GF (21F) and I (23M) signed lease to possibly unsafe apartment.
Hello all, just looking for some help or advice (also, we are in Colorado). My girlfriend (21F) and I (23M) just signed a lease to our new apartment after being very pleased with the renovated model unit. However, upon getting our keys today and seeing our actual unit, there were some very obvious problems. Firstly, the door was EXTREMELY hard to open, almost like it's too big for the door frame (is this a safety violation?) Also, there are at least 10 exposed nails on the inside of all the "renovated" draws and cupboards. And lastly the apartment itself was very dirty (for instance the toilet had been used and was never cleaned). As you can imagine, the rest of the renovation was very poorly done. As a result, we took our UHaul full of stuff and left. We are set to have a meeting with the property manager on Wednesday. So I was wondering, does this give us any grounds to try and break our lease. Or at the very least have the door, draws, and cupboards repaired/replaced. Thanks for any advice we really appreciate it!

2023.06.04 05:56 sister_moon1 My Story of Growing Up With Psychics and Mediums
This is a true story of my young life growing up with psychics and mediums and I believe it was a necessary experience for me to have, in order to adjust me to being a psychic and a medium, it is both a very fortunate, and an unfortunate story. I say it was fortunate because it gave me a strong foundation of knowing and believing in spirit, and a family that never doubted me when I began having psychic experiences, and of course it was unfortunate because I got to experience such things that most young children should not ever know.
I came to realise that spirits existed from a very young age because my grandmother, mother, uncle and his wife, my aunty, were all open to spirit in one way or another.
And we all lived together in the same home within the UK.
My cousin lived there too, he was my uncles son and he was 18 months older than me.
My earliest memories of the house was around the year 1967 when I was 3 years old. My mother had her back to me, she was sitting in a chair holding my new baby brother, and he was looking at me over my mothers shoulder and smiling, I was smiling back at him and I was very excited to have a baby brother, but sadly this joy didn't last long as he died tragically, when he was only 3 months old. Looking back now on that single memory, I often think of how old and intelligent his soul was for a young baby, to be aware of me at such a tender young age.
Has I mentioned, I was very young and the house we lived in was haunted by at least three spirits. I never actually saw any of these spirits myself, and I don't believe my cousin did either, but I heard lots of screams and screeches from my mother and my aunty, whenever they witnessed an apparition. !
My Grandmother was the sober, and less excitable of the adults, but even she had a few funny turns from time to time, and I often overheard stories of a young child that was seen playing in the garden (she was a girl) or of the red haired women that had been seen on the stairs.
On one occasion, I remember I was sitting playing in the kitchen, it was a bright summers day and my aunty and my mother were busy spring cleaning the house. The door in the kitchen lead into the lounge and there was an old wooden door to the right, when you entered the lounge that lead to the stairs leading to the upper bedrooms. The door to the kitchen and the stairwell door were both wedged open, as my aunty was busy brushing the stairs with the tall handled broom, the atmosphere was pleasant and happily busy, when out of nowhere, I heard a terrifying scream coming from my aunty, followed by running as she flew down the stairs, my grandmother was up and out of the kitchen and I overheard my aunty talking to my grandmother about seeing the lady's long red hair floating as she looked up from her brushing, just when it disappeared down the stairs.
There were a couple of other instances of the little girl being seen in the garden and the red haired lady on the stairs, I only ever heard my grandmother and my aunty talk about seeing them.
The most scary of all the incidents that ever happened in that house, happened when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and it had me terrified of the stairwell right on up until we finally moved out.
Before beginning this terrifying story, I do think I should mention that the house never had any creepy or eerie feeling and the overall atmosphere of the place was pleasant. I should also mention that my mother was a lazy selfish women, and this story is her experience alone, although, by default its mine too.
It was a terribly wet, windy day, it hadn't stopped raining all day long and now it was late in the afternoon and the shopping needed to be done for us all to have dinner. My uncle and aunty had moved out at this time, so there was just my cousin, me, my mother and my grandmother who was 70 years old that were still living there. My selfish mother did not want to go out in the pouring rain and so it was left to my grandmother to have to get ready to go, I did not want my grandmother to go out in the pouring rain, she was old and wind and the weather was very bad. I think I asked if I could go with her, but I wasn't allowed. I remember looking out the window at the grey sky and all the rain, worrying about my grandma, for what seemed like forever. then finally I saw her shadow arriving back and coming up our path, and I ran to the door to greet her.
When she got in the lounge she looked very ill and her poor face was ashen white, her coat and clothes were soaking wet and I was very sad to see her looking so ill, and my mother ran around to make hot tea and get her dry clothes and towels.
Much later that evening I'd fallen to sleep on the coach, and my mother was carrying me up the stairs to bed, she had nearly gotten up to the landing when I was awoken by my mother screaming for her mother on the top of the stairs.! I woke up and tried to look to see why my mother was screaming, but my mother held my head pressed in her chest, so I could not see anything, then I heard and saw my grandmother shouting and waving her umbrella in the air, has she came up the stairs to the rescue, My mother came down the stairs with me and that night we slept in the lounge on the sofa.
I don't recall when I heard them talking about that night, but I know I was still in the house as I was terrified to go up those stairs at night after hearing that, so I was still very young when I heard about it.
what I heard was terrifying. !!!
My mother said she was climbing the stairs the light on the landing was off, but there was a full moon out illuminating through the landing window, so it was bright enough to see as she walked up the stairs towards the landing, she said she heard someone breathing and has she looked up she saw a figure coming out of the spare room that was at the far end of our hallway, the figure was covered in hair right down to near the floor and she couldn't see its face, she saw it put it's hand on the banister rail as it was moving towards her, and she said the nails were long, yellow, and twisted around like a cork screw and she could hear the breathing getting loader as it was coming towards her
This is the point when I heard my mother scream for her mother, and she added that when grandma opened the stairway door it started to move back towards the room where it came from and finally disappeared just before grandma had gotten up the stairs, so grandma saw nothing.
I believe I overheard repeated pieces of conversations about this at different times, when grandma and my mother were talking in the lounge, unfortunately in those times the assumption was that younger children didn't really understand what you were talking about. but I did, and I was terrified I would see the same thing too, but no one ever did.
My grandmother concluded that it was her dead husband, my grandfather, that had scared my mother that evening for her wickedness of letting her poor old mother go out in such weather, and I have to agree, especially after having a psychic encounter with him myself years later.
It was not a terrifying encounter, but he warned me very softly but seriously of the dangers of dabbling with drugs and the effects it has on the soul when you pass, I understood then that my grandfather was the patriarch that kept the family all in check, and even after he'd passed on, he was still watching out for us, needless to say, but I headed his warning and never messed with drugs again.
It sounds very strange to say this, but besides all the things that happened, I did love that house and have some of my fondest memories there of when all my family were happily together, unfortunately there is only me, my cousin, and my mother left who remembers those days in that house.

2023.06.04 05:55 Palladininpluto Nail salon etiquette?
I am new to getting my nails done and I am curious what the usual sort of procedure and politeness should be when entering a nail salon.
Do I call same day or day before to make an appointment, or just walk in?
Should I remove nail polish from acrylics before getting a fill or a new set?
What should I look for in a good salon?
How much should I tip?
If I want nail art, how do I go about it and do I specify I want something more complicated when asking for an appointment?
Extra question: should I consider gel + acrylics or just plain nail polish?

2023.06.04 05:46 nglbut-theni-lie My mom ruined how I see myself.
As a kid I never really payed attention to how I looked. The only time I’d look in the mirror was when I was brushing my teeth, or doing my hair. Of course that changed as I entered my teen years, I would worry about how my hair looked before school or the bloating in my face after I ate dairy the day before. I never really had a relationship with my mother, we didn’t dislike eachother, and we weren’t very close either. That also changed when I was becoming a teen. Around that time my grandmother (my moms mother) had passed away, as well as us needing to move houses, causing both me and her to be stressed. As a result many arguments happened, which lead me to realize she was a narcissist. Obviously I couldn’t have realized that she was before because how is a 12yr old supposed to see the faults in their mother? The arguments would always end up with me being grounded, and shut out without her listening to me and hearing my side of the disagreement. It was you either agree with her, admit it was your fault and say you’re sorry, or get a hand to a face and a “I don’t wanna hear it, talk again and you’re grounded”. When I had just turned 15 we eventually we grew apart completely, I distanced myself from her because I realized I couldn’t build a bond with her, no matter how many times I said she was right or things were my fault. We only ever talked to eachother if we needed to. This meant I wouldn’t tell her anything, If I liked a boy or If I was upset with my friends. And many other small details you would usually tell your parent. But at the start of a new school year, I saw a boy I’d never seen before, and my 15yr old self was already head over heals within seconds. When the school day ended my mom picked me up, and we drove most of the way home In silence as usual, but surprisingly she asked me how the first day back was. I thought this was a big step, and maybe she was looking to bond like I was so desperately, so I decided to tell her about the boy. I gave her his name and told her how cute I thought he was. She paused for a second and then said “Oh, I know his parents” I saw her look at me before continuing, “I doubt a kid like theirs would like someone like you”. For context I was a very shy and socially awkward kid. Doing any social activity gave me major anxiety. So I mostly stayed to myself on my phone or reading. I didn’t have many friends, I wasnt very athletic so I played no sports, I wasn’t in any clubs or camps because the thought of having to talk and meet new people terrifed me. I basically did nothing. And because of this my mom would continuously bash me, and call me lazy and beat me down. She continued to go on, “He plays sports, and he’s hardly on any electronics,” I said “Okay”. “He’s not lazy like you”. The rest of the drive home was silent, I remember digging my nails into my thigh and looking out the window to keep me from crying. I think that was one of the worst days of my life. The feeling of my throat burning, the trees outside starting to get blurrier not just from the car speeding up but the tears starting to rise, and the heat rushing to my cheeks I’ll never forget. As soon as we pulled into the driveway I ran into my house and into my room, I looked in the mirror and studied my face thinking if I was pretty enough maybe it would make up for my laziness or my lack of personality. After that day I started looking for makeup tutorials, which haircuts would suit my face shape, and foods that would make me slimmer. Of course it didn’t stop there, I won’t go Into to much detail but I remember me & her were sitting in a line to a car wash, I was having a good day so I striked up a conversation with her, as I was smiling and making jokes I opened my eyes and saw her staring at my mouth, “Your teeth are really yellow, you know?” I didn’t say a word the rest of the car ride. And I stopped smiling with teeth after that, and a few months later I asked her to bring me to the store to get me whiting strips. I remember the look on her face, she looked sad and asked me why I would want those, I simply said “My teeth are yellow”. She’s also made countless comments on my eating habits and my weight which lead to more serious problems. As well as her comments on my personality worsening my anxiety. I still live with her now years later and still suffer from these kinds of comments.

2023.06.04 05:44 Halasham Faulty Reporting[Homelands]
Be me: Ishmael, Damphir Barbarian
Be not me: DM; Chus, Lizardfolk Necromancer; Aanshe, Koldemar Vitalist; Zero, Ratfolk Psion;
Having started a skull collection from the last band of Gnolls to harass the Nightmare Wagon we arrive in town... We sell off the loot horde and split the value of it.
Chus uses his share to kit out his skeleton better.
We take a look at the available jobs once out shopping is done.
There's four hunting jobs, hunting various critters that have found their way into the forest...
We take the jobs and ready ourselves to deal with them once we return to the temporary Kobold Den
While we're there we're introduced to a new mercenary who the tribe has hired to help deal with the issue, Zero the Ratfolk
After some time passes from Aanshe being indisposed... we set off the hunt down the critters
Not too long on the road we come up on a sinkhole...
Aanshe gets out and peers over the edge... the hole leads into a large cavern.
We decide to investigate and lock the wagons wheels, tie off some rope and make our way down...
We find ourselves in a cavern and slowly making our way forward we find... Basilisks!
INITIATIVE: Chus, Basilisks, Ishmael, Zero, Aanshe
Chus orders Buffy to charge and averts his gaze.
One of the Basilisks manages to bite Buffy and the other scores a crit while she's struggling.
The squad of Basilisks moves up approaching us...
Ishmael moves into position to head off a pair of approaching Basilisks and strikes one.
Ishmael & Zero are petrified!
Aanshe covers her eyes to protect herself and fires a ray zapping one!
Chus closes his eyes and blasts the Basilisks with his swarm magic.
The Basilisks continue their advance noming on Buffy and waddling into the fray.
One goes to nom each: Aanshe & Chus. Chus is bit!
Aanshe catches one with her health steal, healing Chus with the stolen HP
Chus surges his swarm! ... it kills Buffy and seriously wounds most of the Basilisks.
The Basilisks begin to withdraw...
Feeling about blinded and not finding enemies Chus opens his eyes... and is immediately petrified.
Aanshe's alone now... she blindly throws a Steal Health at the sound of their retreat and nails one!
After a second shot misses and the noise of the retreat dies down she risks a peek and sees her petrified party.
Aanshe manages to un-petrify the whole party and takes a minute to meditate.
Ishmael asks where Buffy is when he doesn't notice her among the group... Chus explains that she was destroyed in the fight.
We look around for the Basilisks and Aanshe removes her blindfold. Onward!
We make our way forward!
As we explore we find a small hole in one of the walls just larger than one of the Basilisks we've slain...
Aanshe goes a bit far ahead... and finds a Dracolisk!
Initiative! Zero, Aanshe, Ishmael, Chus, Dracolisk
Zero moves up into position.
Aanshe buffs!
Ishmael charges up almost into melee.
Chus! He tries to blind it?
It reposition and breaths acid!
Zero continues to try and better position...
Aanshe baps it with Steal Health
Ishmael follows the direction of the Acid back to the monster and scores a blind crit!
Chus activates his ghost hand.
The Dracolisk takes advantage of the no AoOs while blinded and flies from Ishmael's position.
It flies to Aanshe and attacks her!
Zero's turn! She stabs it in the thinking-parts.
Aanshe rips the last bits of HP from it with Stealth Health...
It falls, hits the edge of the bridge, slips and falls further.
...victory? Victory! Aanshe carefully peeks... "I GOT IT!" she exclaims
She casts Metamorphosis and scales down to where it fell.
Ishmael comes to the top of the bridge to look down... "Is it dead?"
It's not and Aanshe stabilizes it.
We blindfold it and get to work hauling it out of the pit.
Zero begins to panic when she sees it being tied up and we explain that it's going to be tied up and brought in.
Meanwhile Chus collects one of the other dead Basilisks to serve as the replacement for Buffy
Looking at the situation we consider how to get the KO'd dragon up...
Ishmael suggests we go up and then just reel in the rope since we tied it to the rope we used to descend.
Sounds like a plan and we do it. We load the Dracolisk onto the Nightmare Wagon and roll back into town.
Nothing is crazy enough to mess with the Nightmare Wagon as we ride!
The town guards are a little concerned...
We explain we're bringing it to the council
They insist on having a guard come along.
Ishmael comments "Sure, climb aboard. Mind the blindfold, this thing petrifies."
The are concerned for a moment and force the rookie to be the guard for the trip to the council.
Aanshe tries to make conversation as we roll down the city streets... he's not very talkative.
The Council comes out to see what we've caught with all the weird...
They offer us a small bonus and Aanshe says it's insulting.
We suggest we'd sell the creature... and Chus immediately places an offer
....
We have a concern about it becoming a Dracolich and Ishmael suggests we involve the local Vampire.
Session called as it's nearing midnight.

2023.06.04 05:38 KingoftheRednecks The Void Hunt, ch 5
First/
Prev
The route they chose skirted the borders of Sovereign space. It cost them an extra two weeks of travel, but avoided contact.
The delay chafed at everyone except for the mercs. Their contracts offered nothing more for prizes, so for them it wasn't boredom but safety. They didn't have to worry about what happened when they reached their destination either, for that matter. They spent their time doing their jobs with neat, quiet efficiency, and helping to train the San.
The humans had gone through training, but their total education was three months of being self-taught from holos and six of formal schooling, and for many of the duties that only gave them the barest outline. Mogan needed engineers who could do more than simply consult the checklist, and mechanics who could tell what was wrong with a system from small sounds the way he could tell at the first strike when a node of flint was flawed and what to do with it.
To Logog's chagrin, he put his marines to practicing again with atlatl and sling, making sure their skills hadn't atrophied. It sharpened skills, but it also kept them from getting into trouble. Drunk sailors fight, Shett had told him, and bored sailors fight, and bored sailors also find surprisingly creative ways to get drunk.
Nonetheless, by the time they reached the planet of Goretia, the entire crew was bored and ready for a change of pace. Six weeks of doing nothing felt like a poor way to begin a career of story and excitement, but the more experienced warriors knew that this was the general trend of any campaign; long periods of boredom when one wishes for action, followed by short periods of action when one wishes for boredom.
Once they found the planet on their sensors, the crew scrambled into action. The eight boarding craft could hold one hundred men each, slightly more warriors than the San had. Instead, each held fifty men and fifty dogs.
Any pup was trained to not leave a mess in the hut, but with the ability to simply go outside denied to them the San had had to devise a latrine they could use. Beyond that, the dogs had been trained for hunting for generations, farther back than any of the San's songs could remember, ever since that day when the Unrevealed had decided to test humanity by choosing out the cleverest and kindest of the wolves to come to them in peace.
Nor were they strangers to war. The orders that could command them to flank or attack a deer could make them do the same to men, and they had proven their worth more than once on the battlefields of Noepe. They were even more effective here than they had been on Earth. Any other humans, including the Animal People, had dogs of their own, but the very idea of a beast obeying a sapient being was beyond them. The closest anyone had come to the idea was the secret sapient species, and they were only able to do so because they knew the Vishtali and the other two—the other three, now--were no animals.
Men and women had been trained and conditioned to clamber into the trees and fight other soldiers, or to stand under laser fire, or almost every circumstance but to be charged by dozens of wolf-like, snapping, snarling beasts. Not many could stand against that, and those that could had the dogs to protect the gunners and the gunners to protect the dogs. The dogs took more losses than the humans, but that was to be expected—and much as they loved the dogs, better to lose them than the people.
They generally had the run of the ship during the last few weeks, and one was as likely to see a dog fetching things or playing keep-away with a tool as curled up in the habs. They were even made to exercise as much as the humans.
At least it made the dogs less bored than the humans, and they seemed to have adapted to the routine better. They were still happy to do something different, however, and getting them onto the boarding craft turned out to be fairly easy.
Mogan knelt on the floor of one boarding craft himself, quiver on his back. The air on Goretia was breathable, and that was a blessing. He had a hatchet on his hip instead of his pistol, as did the rest of the warriors.
Alone among the warriors, he didn't have a dog. Knucklebones had been the best of dogs, and had died four years ago. Mogan had not gotten a new one, and he couldn't say whether it was because he had to some extent given up, or whether he couldn't summon the energy for something that wasn't for his daughter or for his tribe.
He had a dog now, one he had purchased from one of the others just after weaning and named Blueknife, as her eyes made him think of the knife he had made of blue-green obsidian for Hyeshi. He thought Hyeshi would approve of the name as well, and had to smile. He was going to be able to ask her himself, whatever it took.
But Blueknife had been born about six months ago, and that meant she was too small for combat. Next to him were three of the Vishtali, and they too had no dogs. In fact, they seemed to have a hard time getting used to the concept of having dogs everywhere. They carried modified shoshir and shields, but seemed to have no confidence in their ability with them.
Logog seemed to have none either, for they were away from the front with him. Mogan presumed he needed to be present to make the action official, and it would help in calming down their new wards, but Logog had absolutely balked at the idea of putting him in the front lines.
Were the Vishtali not there, he would have used the holo at his left hand to show where the craft were, but they were nervous enough already, and it was best he didn't add to the stress.
Burya sent a signal to Logog, who in turn signaled the pilot, and the boarding craft lifted and then eased out of the
Semiramis. This one was the
Knucklebones—Logog didn't feel comfortable with the craft unnamed, so they had spent a little time devising and painting them.
The signal meant they were on the far side of the planet, where it would be harder for their targets to detect them. Mogan could see nothing except the walls of the craft, but he knew that all eight were flying directly towards the planet, their goal to get close to ground quickly. The
Semiramis itself would fly past, and then double back in time to pick up the craft on the way back.
Soon the craft began to tremble as it entered atmosphere and had to push itself through the air, and they slowed as they reached the ground and fanned out slightly, keeping low.
The flight was slower, and not as smooth as in the empty void, but all the same the vehicles could move far faster than anyone could on foot, and in a surprisingly short time they were settling into a clearing. In the front of the craft, a holo projected from the ceiling, showing the area as if from a distance.
“It's a short run to the mines from here. Higa, your unit will guard the Vishtali and hang back. We'll need you in there, but they'll still have their shoshir, and that'll be no bargain in tunnels. We won't build any confidence if we get their people killed. Barab, you and the Second are the flint, Third is the bone.”
It was a simple enough analogy, hopefully enough that anybody not of the San who heard it would get confused. In days gone by, the tribe had made their spearpoints out of flint, creating razor-sharp blades that could easily pierce through the thick hides of their prey. But flint was fragile, and anything from a missed cast onto a stone or hard tree to an accurate cast that hit bone could cause it to shatter.
Long ago, the people that would thousands of years later be called Magdalenian devised a better way. Tiny blade blanks were made, some not as long as the thickness of his thumb, and the ends pressed away to create bladelets, most shorter than the width of a pinky nail. These were carefully glued into slots cut into a weapon. For a spear, these were usually points of bone with at least six, sometimes up to three times that, in bladelets.
A single spear created more cutting edges, and if one broke it was a simple matter to work it out and fit a new one in—and since they were smaller, they were less likely to break. The new technology was an improvement in every way.... up until they reached the stars and it was made pretty much obsolete. That was still difficult for Mogan to deal with.
It also made for an oddity that his handiwork was in evidence today. Some still had the old-fashioned spears, from more than two years ago back on Earth. Others had spears that he had designed and had manufactured, thousands of the exact same dimensions and weight, tipped with titanium-gold blades.
Mogan had devised other spears and spearheads as well—flash-bangs, spears with small explosives that would sink into whatever they hit and then riddle it with shrapnel, spears that would leave a small tracking device in the target, and of course the application of high explosives. It was difficult to go wrong with the application of high explosives.
Except here. Magnetic activity in the mine tunnels meant that any such devices were likely to go off at the right time, and the fact that there were tunnels in the first place meant that there were few if any actual right times for an explosive to go off.
That activity was the real reason there were Vishtali in the first place. They didn't have any particular history or skill as miners, but even well-protected drones would be rendered useless in minutes. Instead, they were reduced to using pneumatic drills to chip away at the rock. For the San, this was a technique thousands of years in the future, but for anybody else among the stars it was terrifyingly barbaric.
Mogan had hoped he could raid the spoils of the mines as well, but their information indicated he'd have no such luck. The mine was rich enough; the kh'ler crystals within were gemstones of extraordinary quality and value, such that particularly large and fine specimens had been used to rent planets from the Sovereign. Unfortunately, they were rarely, if ever, simply found in the mine.
Instead, the Vishtali mucked out tons of stone pried loose by hand-tools and pneumatic machines—even small explosives might shatter the crystals—and pushed heavy carts to the surface, where it was loaded onto ships. A facility off-world was easily able to locate the crystals and extract them from the stone, and to help hide the origins as well.
He would have to settle for killing all the overseers and guards, stealing anything of value, and freeing their slaves. Mogan believed it would suffice.

2023.06.04 05:19 snakeman135g Patio roof collapsed during new roof install
We hired a contractor when we bought our house as a fixer upper back in 2018, among other things they built a new patio cover for us. (20x14 for size reference)
Two weeks ago we were having a new roof installed, the wooden structure collapsed with one of the roofers on top, thankfully he was alright and no one was underneath.
After further inspection the structure was not secured properly to the house (it was secured with 1" of a nail into the fascia)
I had my father-in-law immediately contact the contractor. He immediately denied building it, then I produced his invoice from when he built it.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!

2023.06.04 05:08 soggyhandshake just tired. (and in love)
I'm (25F) in grad school for health profession. Just started my 3rd and final year of school with a hospital clinical that is mon-fri unpaid 40 hours a week for the next 9 weeks. This past year I got into my first relationship, and I couldn't be happier about it, it absolutely came out of nowhere at a time I was fairly certain (and kind of happy) about the fact I was going to be on my own for the foreseeable future.
I've always been pretty independent and enjoyed doing things for myself, being alone never bothered me much. Sometimes I thought it might be nice to have a partner, but once I was settled into the peaceful quietness of my parents basement with a decent sized bowl of ice cream and a new episode of my favorite show or video game queued up to relax, I couldn't imagine enjoying anything more. I'd go out to bars/club or other social settings with friends for dancing, fun, and socialization. flirting was fun but I always wanted to go home alone to my own clean bed and not have to worry about staying over somewhere else or having to deal w someone else in the morning. I lived my life very much to my own enjoyment specifications and never felt I was missing out on something. I received all of the socialization I needed from my friends and I was satisfied with that. I always thought I had a decent grasp on how to be a good partner but never cared enough to pursue a relationship just because it seemed like a burden to some degree, I have to make time for them, spend money on them, manage their emotions as well as mine, and in a way if the relationship becomes long term have a part of my identity reside with them which seemed scary. It never felt like something I needed, I planned my next 10 years under the impression of continuing on single as I had my entire adult life.
This is all to say I could not have been more wrong.
The person I fell in love with is the most perfect thing on the planet and I'm not sure if I could ever be as happy as I was alone again, now that I know what this kind of happiness feels like. This is a person that makes my day better just on sight. They are just good. It sounds boring I know, but I don't know how else to describe it. They're so kind and thoughtful and their heart is just so... good. Their love and attention is the most beautiful feeling to experience. And she's a complete badass, I genuinely don't know what I did to deserve this person. I feel incredibly safe and comfortable w her (even though she still makes me a little nervous in a good way sometimes), and I know I could tell her anything (for reference I've never been big on telling people anything personal outside of normal conversation, I've always been very private). We don't have every single thing in common which is honestly great, I love hearing her talk about things she loves that I don't know about, and our values and expectations of life are synchronous. She makes me laugh. We have a really wonderful sense of trust and understanding between us. I want to do everything for her, I want her to fall asleep with me and to be able to hold her in the morning. The way she smells and feels when I hug her makes it nearly impossible to let go. I want to buy everything for her I think would make her happy (even though I probably can't afford it anyway, and we do have a pretty equal way of splitting things). I want to do all of the stuff I did when I was single but with her (shocking revelation, I know).
Cuddling with someone you love while watching your favorite show is better then anytime I've spent out at a bar or other social setting. It's completely euphoric. I love making time for her and will drive anywhere to see her (sometimes we're over an hour apart and I currently work early 7 days/week). I get sad when I cant see her, I still love being alone, but it's not as fun when I am. I think about her the entire time. I love learning everything about her whether it's emotionally tough or otherwise. I've never been prouder to be associated with another person, and I want people to think of her when they see me and vice versa. Oh my god and on top of all that she's absolutely stunning, beautiful, gorgeous. It's objectively undeniable, I thought that before we even became interested in each other. I mean I never saw myself as particularly ugly but I'm a complete scrub next to this person. I know this isn't big news and most people have known all of these things since they started dating as teenagers. But it's been a big deal for me, and it's really exciting. I honestly just assumed I didn't have the ability to feel those feelings. Now my life feels completely different.
Back to the original point of this post though, it's that I'm tired. Clinical has me waking up earlier than I usually do and the hospital setting is draining physically and emotionally, it takes up most of my day and I practically drop when I get home. Not a lot of time or energy left over to do the things I enjoy. No relief on the weekends either I still have to wake up early sat/sun for my paid job. I know some people have it worse, but all of that wouldn't matter to me if I didn't have someone perfect it was keeping me from. I'm about an hour and 20 from this person at the moment, and it's difficult to get to her when we have to wake up so early the next day-- Usually I wouldn't care about going to work tired but this clinical demands my active attention and I just operate better if I can get at least 7 hours. Now the solution isn't so obvious that she come and stay with me more often, she also has a clinical with similar hours closer to where she's currently living. So travelling back and forth over the week becomes cumbersome for both of us, especially after hobbies and such. Because I work on the weekends too, and live with my parents at the moment to save money, she has to wake up early with me on what's supposed to be her day off those days and drive all the way back to her appt, which I feel terrible asking her to do. But I love and appreciate when she does (and I let her know).
I'm not looking for solutions I know this issue will all be over in 9 weeks, but it's just really bumming me out and I wanted to get it off my chest (and wanted to talk about how much I love her for a bit). This person makes me so happy, and it's hard seeing her stressed and tired on top of me also being stressed and tired. We see each other only once a week right now which is a stark contrast from when we saw each other everyday in class, and when she lived closer (was only 30 mins away from my home at that time, we called ourselves spoiled about it). I'm not concerned about drifting apart or anything like that I'm just sad about the time i'm missing being with this person. but I know there will be more to have in the future. Not to brag but I feel like I kind of absolutely nailed it first try with this person, I don't think I'd mind at all being with her for a very long time. I know I sound incredibly naïve saying all this about my first relationship but I don't mind that criticism. It might be true I'm being naïve, but if she is how my heart gets broken one day, I'll always be thankful she showed me what a healthy love looks like and I feel pretty secure about that. In all the time we've been together now it's never become easier to say goodbye to her, and the absolute burning fire in my heart for her as only become larger... but maybe calmer. Whereas the initial falling in love feels unwieldy and beautifully uncontrollable (which is an amazing experience on its own)-- developing our relationship over the months has made the fire functional, capable of warming a home and feeding a village. Large, beautiful, and sustainable. She makes me feel so sure, so secure, and so happy.
I appreciate anyone who reads this or gets this far. I ended up writing much more than I thought. I've been having a hard time in general with other factors in my life and this entire situation has just felt heavier. It's depressing working everyday and only really having free time to eat, shower and sleep. simply wanted to write it out somewhere to unweight a bit and spill it out somewhere in the bowels of the internet.

2023.06.04 05:04 bravestar255 does NIN have any big plans for the near future?
hey guys. New pig here,
Taking a look at NIN overview on Spotify shows me that a lot of their stuff is from the 1990's-2010's. and I can't help but feel that I have already missed out on the gilded age, and everything new that Nine Inch Nails has to offer.
Now I do know they still release new stuff every now and then, but I'm still worried that anything new won't be on the same grand scale as the older releases.
I guess what I'm asking is, is it too late for me? or does NIN still have more to offer.

2023.06.04 05:00 Possible_Lion1158 Autistic Rabbit Hole Has Left Me Uncertain
Has anyone else done so much reading and research into autism that you’ve somehow convinced yourself that you can’t be autistic? I know this sounds strange, so let me explain.
I have suspected that I am on the spectrum for a while now (I am 25), and that thought has evolved into me developing what I might call a hyper-fixation on ASD itself. I have watched hours of videos, read many books by autistic authors, and taken countless ASD quizzes online. Almost every trait and experience resonates with me — I am gay, which seems to be very common; I have several passions that I am never bored of (I can engross myself in them for hours without losing focus); I have a partner who has ADD and 1 best friend who is also very much like me (I find it painfully hard to make new friends and keeping up with people drains me to the point of ignoring their messages for days at a time); I have had a very hard time regulating my emotions (I experience emotions very intensely); I’ve had severe abandonment issues (I used to cry and beg my partner not to go home when we first started dating); I stem (I bite my nails, pace, hum/make noises, etc.); I’ve been told my whole life that I’m monotone (I hated being told that, so I would work on modulating my speaking voice); I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder for which I take medication; I find patterns fascinating and will spend hours doing puzzles; I notice details and even notice stimuli that others don’t perceive; I don’t understand societal norms/rules (I focus on the absurdity of our world virtually all the time). I also suspect that my dad and two brothers are probably on the spectrum (2/3 of my brothers have been diagnosed with ADHD, too).
All of this to say that, on the one hand, I clearly exhibit classic ASD traits, but, on the other hand, I can be social and put myself in chaotic environments under the right circumstances and I have never struggled in school (I have a master’s degree, graduated summa cum laude with honors, and have never made anything below an A in my life). This isn’t to brag; I’m simply saying that this has only contributed more to my confusion. If I had ASD this whole time, why wasn’t this picked up in my childhood?
Can anyone relate to this? I’m worried about incorrectly self-diagnosing. I’ve always felt different/weird compared to my peers, but I’m not sure if this is why. Thoughts? Thanks!

2023.06.04 04:39 Fable_Darling Eight Hundred And Fifty-Fifth Night
Darling called. We've decided I'd come down for a visit at the tall end of this week. In many ways I am looking forward to it, in others I have to admit I'm feeling a great deal of dread. I doubt I need to reiterate my issues with car sickness. It isn't a long drive but the prospect of becoming nauseous and then being forced to grin and bear it for however long I'll be visiting isn't something I'm excited to experience. It has also been quite a while since I've had to interact with people for long stretches of time. I'm rusty, to say the least. I am easily tired of people. And as much as I am fond of Darling's family, I still balk at the idea of spending hours at another person's house. To be perfectly honest, much of me doesn't want to go at all. Perhaps if we were going to a neutral location I'd be more comfortable but I, for some reason, find particular discomfort in spending time in other people's homes. Especially with other people there. But, sadly, relationships need to be fostered. Nurtured with attention and effort. I don't want to disappoint them. At least I have a week to brace myself. Hopefully, I'm just catastrophizing. A visit to Darling's house can be fun.
Anyway, it's cooled down slightly today. Any normal person would still feel perfectly warm, maybe even toasty, but I am hardly normal when it comes to heat. I'm ashamed to admit, I've done a lot of shivering today. I'll probably get used to the drop in temperature soon. It was mostly warm when I was in the sun at least. Anyway, I spent most of today doing yard work, with a little writing in the evening outside until the sun began to set. Mother was nailing the new lights to the fence while I did some weeding. Once I was done clearing an area, I put some stones out and finally brought the greenhouse out of the dining room and into the backyard. The thing only just managed to fit through the back door and it broke about four different ways on the way there. I put it back together again but I didn't bring the cover out. I'll do that tomorrow. It's best to wait until I have Mother's full attention, lest I do something she disliked and am forced to tear it all down and start again.
As for my writing, I'm nearly done with the research for one of my articles, the one about the books. I'd really like to get it submitted before my visit to Darling's house. We'll see how well that ambition fairs in the face of overwhelming laziness. I didn't get any work done for any of my personal projects. Maybe I'll work on some of those prompts once I'm done writing to you.
If you're wondering, I am still feeling a little overwhelmed today. The world is loud, especially to me. Mother and Father are driving up to Grandmother's house to do some spraypainting so I'll get the house to myself for a while. Hopefully, that time alone will help ease my nerves. I'm looking forward to it.
Yours & Mine,
S.O. Skinner

2023.06.04 04:30 Nervous_Silver2466 AITA for telling my brother he’s sexist and thats why woman dont want him
I (m38) have a daughter (f13). I am a single dad and her mother isn't around because she chose other things over her daughter when our daughter was a toddler. 2 months ago my daughter got diagnosis with Leukemia. It has been difficult for her both physically and mentally.
I have always done anything to make my little girl happy but now especially I'm really big on Just making her happy during this very difficult time. My brother “Chris” (m40) has always given me shit for this. Throughout my daughter’s life, I've always done anything she wanted to go play with Barbies, play beauty salon, watch princess movies, etc. Chris who is super fixed on being a manly man always gives me shit asking if I lost my man card, saying he's glad it's not him being forced into doing all these girly things. It's so annoying he says those things.
Since my daughter got diagnosis with leukemia / started chemo we haven't seen my family super often because of my daughter’s now weak immune system. Well, about 2 weeks ago my daughter convinced me to let her dye my hair... So I now have pink hair which I honestly enjoy. I work from home so it's not like I have to look professional or anything plus it made my girl happy. Well 6 days ago she had a chemo session and that was a really rough one afterward she laid in bed for 4 days straight. Yesterday she finally felt better and we ended up having a movie/ spa day to celebrate. In the middle of the whole spa day my mom wanted to face time well I had a cucumber facemask on as well as getting my nails painted by my daughter.
Chris ended up being there and when he saw me he laughed and said at this point I'm just unmasculine and just gave my man card away. I finally got fed up with his comments and called Chirs an idiot for thinking that way and that he just a sexist asshole who is completely fixed on being manly. I then told Chris that's the reason he can never keep a girlfriend and he needs to stop trying to be overly manly. He called me an asshole.
My parents ended up agreeing with Chris saying I was in the wrong for bringing up his dating life. So AITA?
