2023.05.05 01:18 TheGetGoodGuy KEY LESSONS from hitting Masters & Hyper Tier in set 8.5 ☺️

✅PREVIOUSLY POSTED ON COMP TFT SUB BUT APPARENTLY SEEMS LIKE A BETTER FIT FOR HERE :)
My first time hitting Masters this set (yay 🎉) and currently ranked #281 in Hyper Roll in EUN, with TFT not being my “main game”. Due to finally deciding to dive deeper in to understanding TFT. So I’ve come up with my 10 KEY LESSONS, that are relatively easy to implement for the majority, which helped me to progress & I thought I’d share in case it could help any of you 😊
My lolchess: https://lolchess.gg/profile/eune/getgoodguy
Masters is obviously by no means the pinnacle of ability. I’d still get smoked 9 times out of 10 by a challenger. But it’s a heavily desired goal for many that represents being inside the top 1%.
Please leave your tips or polite disagreements as replies also.
🔴1. THE META IS REAL - You may have heard the premise that the meta doesn’t have to matter and you should just play “what you hit”. Which is true… occasionally… and only within certain circumstances. The reality is that the meta is the meta for a reason and not having a grasp of what to play to maximise your opportunities, is leaving LP on the table.
The meta is going to change and shift as a set progresses. As more is discovered, as trends spread and as patches are implemented, what’s good and what’s not will be in constant flux. In order to actively compete, the majority of players are going to need to keep somewhat up to date with this information.
That sounds boring and overwhelming. So quite a few players say “I can’t be bothered with that” and essentially give up on climbing. But it doesn’t have to be as time consuming as it may sound. Take a few minutes here and there to watch a set update video, a meta snapshot or read over a patch / meta breakdown. Even a little information is better than none. And as you play, you’ll start to notice which comps and heroes seem to be largely dominating.
🔴2. IMPACTFUL HERO AUGMENTS - This is only relevant this set but can also be applied to augments in general / individual set mechanics.
I hate early hero augments. So for quite some time I tried to not focus upon them very much. This stubbornness led me to bottom 4 finishes that would have been top 4s, had I simply accepted that hero augments exist and I should be utilising them as much as possible.
Now that’s not to say I just ignored them. But I put little thought in to 2.1 hero augments due to a total distaste for forced early commitment or overpowered low cost re-rolling (pre-nerf Lucian for example). I’d often instead take a support augment that fit a comp I liked. Which is fine… but not always optimal.
Much like tip one with meta comps, once I took a little time to learn which hero augments were the strongest at that point, I began taking them and picking up easy top 4s for extra LP, without needlessly struggling.
Information is king and set mechanics are not to be ignored. As an example from another set, scoped weapons on Yone from set 7. Completely transformed what that hero could do. A few alternative ideas for set mechanics / augments can go a long way to fleshing out your options.
Add in a backup plan and you’re good to go. Mine currently is something like Pyke. He’s a very good option for a versatile unit. So if I don’t hit a hero augment I want, I’ll pick that up if it’s there. Then I’m also not afraid to drop a hero augment from usage if it makes sense to, due to being heavily contested or simply having a superior angle arise.
🔴3. USE NORMAL MODE - It’s very common for players to not discover how to use a lot of comps, synergies and units. This information isn’t simply important so you can utilise them. It’s equally important so you can discover how to counter them.
If your opponent is using say Poppy carry with defenders, and you know nothing at all about it, how do you intend to counter it? Where do you position your carries? Which items do you prioritise?
Use normal mode to play around with everything you can, if you’re scared to do so in ranked because you’ll lose LP. Being ranked focused is perfectly fine. But playing normal mode to improve your performance in ranked isn’t a waste of time. It could actually help save you time climbing as you discover more lines of play and counter strategies. I’m personally playing a little more normal mode again, now that the patch has gone live. As can be seen on my lolchess.
🔴4. HYPER ROLL HAS VALUE - You don’t HAVE to do this one at all. But this set was my first time playing Hyper Roll and I absolutely loved it. Plus, it was a great use of my time.
Hyper Roll games are much faster. You can try out fresh comps and ideas without having to sink in as much time. It can help you to play and make decisions more quickly. It has a different set of ranks or “tiers” to play through. And it’s a great separate option if you want a break from any ranked frustrations, without just playing normal and feeling like you’re not gaining anything in terms of a rank.
Note that Hyper Roll is, I believe, far easier to get Hyper Tier in than getting Masters+ on ranked. I got to Hyper Tier in a few days and statistically I believe there’s a much larger percentage of Hyper Tier players than Masters. Regardless, it’s something to do and with a slightly different skill set. Your achievements in this mode still hold value.
🔴5. CHALLENGES - Set / weekly challenges are something I didn’t look at until recently. But once I did and started trying to complete them, I found myself discovering things I hadn’t so far. An example is I did the Jhin 2 star with deathblade challenge recently and grabbed a top four. Jhin was actually doing sizeable damage and I was genuinely shocked to find he wasn’t as garbage as I had assumed.
I simply would not have even given him another go had I not done this challenge. I now have a fresh “last resort” option if I mega low roll or happen to roll Jhin a lot in my shop. That’s simply one example of something that can happen multiple times over and further expand your understanding of a set, without relying upon your own bias for what you like or don’t like.
🔴6. BASE COMPS - Find a base comp or comps that you like and can learn inside out. This is your safe space, your go to or your fall back. Having a wide breadth of knowledge for the set is huge. But I’d HIGHLY advise having specific options that you play when given the opportunity, need to pivot or simply have no direction.
For me this set it’s been defender mech Garen with damage behind him. I crafted this comp prior to mech Garen frontline being a large accepted part of the meta. It helped me climb massively because it was strong, flexible and I knew it really well. Initially I used threats behind him, before adding in the option to go Kai’Sa and MF, spellslingers, legendaries or whatever else presented itself. Then I could flip the frontline from being majority defender to defender / Aegis, based on the rest of the lobby. (This comp now feels significantly weaker after the latest patch but the overall point remains relevant).
This helped me to prioritise items and direction from the very first carrousel. I knew when to roll and when to save, based upon the comp and how I like to play. This added level of stability and confidence can save you from making panic errors. Plus can turn an 8th in to a 6th if things get desperate. With that in mind, you can then switch between playing the meta, playing what you’re given or playing your base comp. For better overall results.
🔴7. OFF META - B or C tier options to go for when all the good stuff is heavily contested or you get gifted a fantastic start for such an option.
These are absolutely worth learning / crafting. This saves / gains you LP. It may only be one game out of 10 or 20 that it’s relevant. But those add up over time.
You also get the added bonus of most players not being as familiar with how to play against these comps. Or alternatively, you could look at this as being counter-meta. Comps that may not be the strongest but they’re very good specifically against what people are generally forcing at that time.
This is another point that rams home the important of knowledge and a willingness to create and explore. You do not need to swamp yourself in hours of content if you don’t want to. A little knowledge is again better than none.
🔴8. OPTIMISE BASIC PLAY - I coached a friend for a couple of games recently. He’s currently ranked in platinum, somewhere around the top 10% of players. So, relatively speaking, a pretty good player.
With that in mind, he’s leaving a lot of LP unclaimed by not optimising his basics. Which means a lot of players are too. I told him that if he could save a little HP in the early rounds, his 5ths would be 3rds. He need almost never get an 8th in his lobbies due to his overall ability, if he could just clean up his core foundations.
So make sure that each decision you make is for a reason. Don’t pick an augment “just because”. How does it support your comp? What do you need to play in to? Which supplemental items do you need? What temp carry can you use before you hit your planned main carry?
The absolute biggest thing I noticed was something that seemed apparent across the entirety of his lobbies. Optimally using time between fights. I saw benches full of items, I saw rolls not being made, I saw units not being repositioned and scouting clearly not being done.
Have an idea of what you NEED to get done when your current fight ends. “I need to open this anvil and look for an item for this unit. I then need to roll to X gold to try to hit X 2 star. I then need to place these items and do a quick scout to reposition etc.” I know that sounds like a lot but that is what good players are doing. As you get better and better at this, the time between fights doesn’t seem so brief. This WILL save you LP.
🔴9. GAME REVIEWING - You can VOD review your games if you have the capability / desire to do so. Or you can look at your lolchess account to see what team comp you had when you finished the game.
From here you can begin to work out why your bottom 4 games are bottom 4 games. Or why you didn’t turn a great opportunity in to a first. Are you making enough tank items? Are you fixated on a certain item for no reason? Did you fail to 2 or 3 star your carry? Did you have a unit in that actually didn’t provide a meaningful contribution? Do you frequently get stuck at level 6 due to over-rolling for a unit or managing your economy improperly?
Working that stuff out in the moment can be difficult. Especially if you’re tilted. Looking at a selection of your games later on, with a clear mind, is much better to help you spot patterns of play that you need to adjust. And if you do this and simply can’t tell what you’re doing wrong, then watch better players play and see what they do differently.
🔴10. HIGH ELO CONTENT - Essentially what I was getting at, at the end of the previous point. Watching high level players play can teach you a lot. They don’t always have to be the best of the best. Watch anyone you find entertaining who is significantly skilled at the game.
A quick tip about a unit, a positioning strat, a bit of extra knowledge about an item, an alternative comp. Any and all of these things over time can make a very large difference.
Don’t do this because you have to. Games are meant to be fun. Hence watch someone you find ENTERTAINING. This isn’t work. Benefit from the info while you enjoy yourself.
I hope this helps some of you. Again, leave your own tips below and happy climbing :)

Can't duo queue because of an unexisting rank difference
It Happened today,me and a friend wanted to start our placing together for this new season but when i joined him, surprise, we cannot play because our rank difference is too important, needless to say we're both unranked, the only difference is that i did 1 placement game and he didn't.
anyone know why the fuck this is happening ? (thx in advance btw)

Which is your favourite Origin/ Class and unit? Gonna work on unit abilities next, but I wanted to finalize all the units first. Also, the balancing needs work haha, so let me know what needs a buff/ nerf. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for reading!

2022.11.16 15:56 ImpetuousPandaa 🌍 Dragonlands Championship 🐉 - Regional Breakdown & Player Profiles - Brazil 🦜

Hello friends, ImpetuousPanda here! 🐼

We continue with the "Regional Breakdown & Player Profiles" series, this time featuring another South American region, Brazil! If you missed my past write-ups, you can find them here.

Brazil

Brazil is a very distinct region/country when compared to the rest of South America. it's key distinction which makes it a seperate part of South America is the language, portuguese instead of spanish, but one often overlooked reason is it's sheer size, just 10% smaller than the entirety of the US and with a population of 200 million.

Ever since the international competitive circuit began for TFT, Brazil has been a relevant country. Slooper, one of this weekend's qualified players, is considered by many to be the father of Brazilian TFT, as his legendary accomplishment of reaching a 3rd place position in the first ever Worlds Championship in Set 3 was the detonator that inspired an entire generation of Brazilian players to change their outlook on competitive TFT, and pursue it professionally. Since then, we Narkesh and Shinri make the international stage in Set 4, Eusouolucas and Inc mplete make it in Set 5, and finally a fully stacked roster of 4 making it in Set 6's Gizmos and Gadgets World Championship, the most Brazilian players ever since to Worlds thanks to Lucas' fantastic Western LCQ run. This tournament saw Lucas finishing once again in 14th position, a repeat of Set 5, and VCLF advanced to the best ever finish post-Slooper, with a 12th place. Rounding out the list we had Koala finishing 21st and Math108 finishing 30th.

Although Brazil has not managed to once again reach the high bar that Slooper set in the first ever World Championship, it is clear that year after year Brazil is sending more qualified players to the World's stage, and this year is no different.

VCLF - Twitter

VCLF is considered by many to be the strongest player from Brazil going into Worlds, and to no surprise. A dominant ladder player who always holds the Top 1 or 2 positions in Brazil, back to back World Championship qualifications, a 12th place finish in Set 6, runner-up in last set's BR Prolegends Regional Finals and the champion of Brazil this set.

Despite playing TFT since it's infancy, VCLF usually didn't play very consistently or take it very seriously. He was known to take regular breaks and stop playing in midsets altogether if he wasn't enjoying the game. This all changed during the start of Set 6 and the introductions of augments, as since then he dedicated himself fully to the game and the results are clear, he's managed to level up his game to the next level. As we move into the final stages of Set 7, VCLF feels like a much more experienced player, and very comfortable on the big stage. Although many call him the best player from Brazil, and he might have agreed in Set 6, VCLF actually considers Konda1, another of the Worlds qualified player, to have earned that title for Set 7.

Overall, VCLF is a fairly flexible player. He leans a bit more towards AD when it comes to his preferences, specifically Xayah and Jade, and generally doesn't like playing Darkflight or reroll comps. That being said, he did admit he'd play Lillia if from a good spot, but generally will stick to strong fast 8 boards which is where he is most comfortable. Going into Worlds, he believes Brazil as a region is very prepared and as strong as most other region, bar China and EMEA, which he considers the two strongest.

VCLF also enjoys watching players from other regions, specifically Milk, Socks, and Deis1k, while also mentioning he was a big fan of Salvyyy since back in the day, as were more of the Brazilian players. Looking at Worlds his only hope is to do better than last year's 12th place finish, and ideally he'd love to make it to the final day of the competition. VCLF also claims he's very excited to see where TFT is headed, and gave us a bit of an exclusive headline, he has already signed for a big team in Brazil and will represent them in Set 8, but we'll have to wait to find out which one it is! Damn, I can't believe this tweet worked!

Slooper - Twitter

For Brazilian fans, Slooper needs no introduction. Despite never playing at a top tier competitive level in any esport title prior to TFT, Slooper managed to qualify to Set 3 World Championships and put up a fasntastic performance, finishing 3rd just behind Lev D Trottskij and Double61. This achievement caused a snowball effect, both for Slooper personally and for the Brazilian TFT scene, as many players understood that it might be possible to make a career out of TFT in the future, and that despite being from a minor region they would still have a chance to fight for international glory. Despite the in-game success, it was not even the biggest news of that week for Slooper, as just 4 days later he became a father. This changed his life entirely, having to move to a different state, become independent from his parents and start a family of his own, all while moving across the country. For this reason, Slooper took a massive competitive break throughout Set 4 and 5, focusing instead on streaming and content creation, where he still had a lot of support and love from the Brazilian communtiy following his success in Set 3.

In 2022, as Set 6 started off, Slooper decided to give it one last chance to commit himself fully to his passion, competing at the highest level in TFT. Now that he had a better understanding of how to balance his family life and his competitive goals, this year would be the make or break moment for his career. His wife was supportive of his goal, to reach the World Championship once again. Unforetunately Slooper failed to do so in Set 6, finishing 4th in the Brazilian ProLegends Regional Final and qualifying to LCQ, but then falling short as he saw Eusouolucas instead qualify as the fourth player representing Brazil. Overall Slooper was content with his level as a player, and happy to once again return to international competition despite it not being Worlds, as these opportunities and new relationships with players from abroad is what he loves most about competitive TFT. Going into Set 7, Slooper had the same goal. This time around he managed to accomplish it, finishing 2nd in the BR Prolegends Regional Finals, just behind VCLF. Slooper says despite giving it his all, he is very different to most players. He usually has a goal oriented mindset up until the final month leading up to Worlds. In the start of a set, he only does enough to keep up with the Brazilian circuit, making it to qualifiers and getting circuit points to be eligible to fight amongst the best when the finals come along. This allows him to still spend time with his family, fulfill his role as a father and balance competing with his health and family lifestyle.

Going into BR Regional Finals, Slooper thought it was the most stacked lobby ever seen for a final. Overall he felt very confident going into the final day, he had mastered less utilized comps ike Xayah and started off hot with back to back top 2s. He then had two bad games, finishing 8th, but managed to establish a tough mental and bounced back with a win and a top 4 in the final game. Overall, going into Worlds Slooper will focus mostly on playing comps that have a high cap, as he believes winning games outright will be crucial to finish among the top 8 after two days. He will mostly focus on Xayah, Daeja and Dragon comps, but wants to master pivoting into a stable comp like Graves/Sera as a plan B when he isn't strong enough to cap out higher. He enjoys reroll comps overall, but not Rengar or Lillia, and also usually doesn't play for AP boards like Lagoon Sohm. Slooper isn't the greediest player, he likes making sure to fully stabilize at 8 before ever deciding to go 9. In terms of augments he loves True Twos as it fits his streaky playstyle as well as Warrior Crest and Lootmaster, as they both lead in to comps he truly enjoys playing, Yone/Olaf and Xayah respectively.

Slooper managed to watch all regional finals, and he believes his playstyle is very similar to the more aggresive regions like EMEA and BR, and he thinks that for worlds lobbies games will meet somewhere in the middle between this playstyle and Korea and China's greedier fast 9 playstyle. He thinks levle 7 boards will be very important, and assembling strong yet cheap boards to transition off of will be pivotal for doing well this weekend. He's very excited to play against main international players, especially hacing a chance to get his revenge against Double61 and to play against Huanmie, someone he thinks is one of the strongest players of all time after qualifynig for the fourth time in a row. Slooper joined the team INTZ for this set, the same team he got to Worlds with in Set 3, and he thinks it's a funny coincidence that might give him good luck for this upcoming weekend!

Konda1 - Twitter

Konda started off playing TFT since it first came out, but mostly for fun and ni a very casual setting. In Set 3 he tried his best to qualify for Worlds, but in the end he ended fourth and it was Slooper who took the spot. For the next few sets Konda didn't really try to compete at the highest level, but it was in Set 7 when he returned to competition and managed to qualify into the final day of the ProLegends Regional Final. Overall he thought the level of play was very high, but he thought Lucas had an edge above the rest. In the end Konda managed to finish in 3rd place, winning on Tiebreakers versus his own teammate Toddy, who we later saw competing in the Western LCQ last weekend.

Overall Konda's preferred playstyle is much greedier than most other Brazilian players. He favors AP, loves playing guardian frontline boards into high capped AP boards with Asol, but makes sure to stabilize properly at level 8, as his main focus when playing tournaments is to avoid going bot 2. He watched many of the other regionals, and thinks most had very different metas to Brazil. If he were sincere, he thinks Brazil has good chances to do well but overall China seems very scary.

Konda is says he is very fortunate to be representing Blake Esports this weekend, as he thinks it's one of the few orgs in Brazil that are truly able to support their players. He's very good friends with ego illusions, another top player from Blake, and also is very close to Lucas when it comes to prepping and learning more about the game.

Closing Words

Brazil has a lot to prove this weekend, and the players that managed to make it to the international stage all have their own personal goals that they will fight for. Despite having one fewer player qualified this year compared to the last, I think Brazil will have a fairly good showing, and expect VCLF to do very well. His goal would be to finish top 12 or higher, and I think he has good chances to do so. Slooper's story is one I will follow very closely, as ultimately his result in this World Championship might dictate what the rest of his career as a TFT competitor looks like. Konda will be a mystery for many going into the weekend, as it's his first ever experience on the international stage. That being said, after VCLF told me he thought Konda was the best player going into Brazil's regional finals, I think anyone would be wrong to count him out just yet!

Shoutout to the players for taking the time to chat with me as well as Dobz when I was still prepping for Western LCQ regarding Toddy and Eusouolucas! I grew up in Brazil for a few years when I was very young and speak the language natively so it was quite special to have a chance to practice it again and prepare my Plan B incase everything goes wrong with EMEA at Worlds! 🐼
This will be my last post regarding the players participating at Worlds this year. I hope you all enjoyed, can't wait for the tournament to get underway!!

2022.11.15 17:31 ImpetuousPandaa 🌍 Dragonlands Championship 🐉 - Regional Breakdown & Player Profiles - LATAM a.k.a Argentina 🌎

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FhkFF5IX0AADf9S?format=jpg&name=large
Hello friends, ImpetuousPanda here! 🐼

As promised, here is the continuation of my "Regional Breakdown & Player Profiles" series, this time featuring the LATAM(Latin America) region. Riot recently announced the Dragonlands Championship Pick'ems, so go ahead and use your newly found knowledge to rack up the most points possible this weekend!

LATAM a.k.a Argentina

Unlike most other regional breakdowns, I think LATAM as a region, and more importantly Argentina as a country, deserves more of a national focus, with more of the spotlight on the group mentality than on the results or the expectations bestowed upon individual players. Although I think each and every qualified player from the region has an interesting story to tell, what I gathered from speaking to each and every one of them was their focus on seeing the success of the country as a whole, the group dynamic, and their friendships as the key to their success in TFT and specifically in the upcoming Dragonlands Championships.

To start, we have to contextualize the strength of Argentina as a country within the LATAM region. It is very widely accepted that Argentina dominates the region, similarly to France in EMEA up until this past set. On the international stage, Argentina had not been too impressive. Cupiditas secured a top 10 spot in the Set 3 Galaxies Championship, in Set 4 Argentina was missing, only our dear Piehat from Peru and Lion from Costa Rica managed to make it to the Worlds stage. Argentina had to wait until the Set 5 Reckoning Championship to show up again, and even then it was only barely a top 16 finish for El Tomo. This all changed in the Set 6 Gizmos and Gadgets, where Qiqi and Altenahue managed to qualify for Argentina alongside Megumin for Peru, and Altenahue finished in a very impressive sixth place position, qualifying to Day 3 and overall performing at a very high level.

With the growth TFT sustained in Set 6, Argentina and LATAM started taking it much more seriously. Although the support and the size of the TFT competitive scene is still lightyears away from where top players would like it to be, it was undeniable that there were many more top players trying their best to perform at a high individual level. Similarly to other traditional sports such as football, and maybe because of it, the LATAM community and specifically Argentina as a country became a training ground where all players were very often working as a unit, sharing knowledge, scrims, and overall trying to reach the highest level possible on the international stage, there was national pride at stake.

This leads us the qualified players for this weekend's Dragonlands Championship. For many, the deserved four strongest players in the region this set have made it to Worlds. Qiqi, Fritz, Lifesbad, and TexSummers via LCQ. The first time LATAM sends four players to Worlds. All argentinian. The 3rd country in the world with most representatives after China and South Korea and tied with the US.

Qiqi - Twitter

The captain. That may be the role and respect many in Argentina give to Qiqi. A player who managed to qualify to last set's Worlds, although finished in a rather disappointing 29th position. For many, including himself, it would be a surprise he was even at Worlds at all. Not necessarily because they doubted his quality as a player, but because his focus had been split during this time. Qiqi had focused more on the content and casting side of TFT in previous sets, and during Set 6 he had his hands full with the formation and leadership of Q1G, an all-star argentinian team with the best players the country had to offer. Alongside the coaching of the very well-respected Cottontail, Qiqi was trying to push for Argentina to gain more relevance on the international stage. Despite his personal success, and the team giving a lot of structure to the Argentinian scene, Qiqi ultimated dismantled the organization and joined Infinity going into Set 7, as he felt the scene was not able to support an esports organization who had no other resources of it's own to support players and staff.

Qiqi managed to become the LATAM Champion after finishing 1st in the grand final, surpassing second place Lifesbad by a full 6 points. Going into Worlds, Qiqi is planning to play flexibly, but with a focus on trying to default to 5 or 6 comps he feels are strongest. Out of the key meta comps, he wll try to avoid Graves/Sera when able, as he feels despite it's strengths it will be too contested to produce consistent results. Qiqi plans to lean towards AP, but feels comfortable playing all top reroll comps, including Lillia reroll if given the perfect spot for it. Yone reroll is a comp he feels very comfortable on, and even values it in a regular setup with the right mirage, without having to depend on swiftshot emblem/scoped weapons III like other players.

In terms of augments, Qiqi loves Pay To Win, and also is not scared to pick Cruel Pact early on in the tournament if offered. But his favorite augment has to be Tiny Titans, it gave him many placements throughout the LATAM Grand Final, and he thinks it will be an instapick for him all throughout Worlds.

Going into Worlds Qiqi believes Argentina has very good chances to do well. He thinks his mental is infinitely better than it was last year, and he feels untiltable. He still believes China is incredibly strong, but doesn't know enough about the players individually to rate them above EMEA players, who he considers the strongest region going into Worlds. Qiqi was also formerly adopted by the Brazilian community for scrims and prep since Set 6 Worlds, and thinks they will do a good job on the international stage as well.

Fritz - Twitter

Fritz has been playing TFT since Set 1, but mostly on and off without a huge competitive drive. When he returned in Set 6, he was in awe at the amount of viewers K3Soju had while streaming the game, and it was after noticing the spectacular growth TFT has had, where he decided to start commiting himself more seriously to the game as he initially thought TFT was a "for fun" game and that no serious competitive ecosystem existed.

Going into the LATAM regionals the narrative was clear, Qiqi, Fritz, Lifesbad and TexSummers were a step above the rest in the region, and surely would be the top 4 of the tournament. In what exact order was a mystery, as many considered TexSummers to be the favorite, but Fritz personally had confidence in his level as a player and believed he would be the regiona champion. For this reason, he changed his gameplan entirely for the final day of the regional tournament. Despite playning a more consistent top4 gameplan up until that final day, for the grand final he wanted to be the champion, and so he played a more risky 1st or 8th playstyle which ultimately backfired, netting him a 3rd place finish with 2 wins and 2 8th places.

Overall his favorite comps are Daeja and Xayah, although he is open to playing Graves if he has an ideal setup, and reroll when he is in a good spot for it. His best performances in LATAM regionals were with reroll setups, so he's comfortable in playing these comps on the big stage as well. Despite the 3rd place finish in regionals, Fritz still believes he has to play to win many games with the 10 game no reset Worlds format. Overall Fritz believes only China is stronger than LATAM as a region going into Worlds, and that the rest of the top regions are at a fairly equal level. It's clear Fritz is very confident in himself and his compatriots when it comes to this weekend, and now all that remains is to see if he can back it up in a few days! Fritz is also part of one of LATAM's biggest orgs, Isurus, which he is incredibly proud of as it allows him to focus more of his attention on TFT.

Lifesbad - Twitter

Lifesbad is a unique figure in Argentina's TFT scene, as he approaches the game from a very different perspective to most top players. A naturally talented player, Lifesbad isn't content grinding games endlessly on ladder, and compared to most he plays very little ladder and instead focuses on tournaments and the competitive scene. He managed to finish top 16 to qualify for Worlds in every set since the circuit's inception in Set 3, and is considered one of LATAM's most consistent and veteran players. Overall he is not very happy with Set 7, but he enjoys competing so much he decided to tryhard anyway. He believes the best sets of TFT have had very strong 3 cost carry units, and he feels that is sorely missing in Set 7.

Overall he believes the level in LATAM was not so high this set, which is why there was a clear distinction for many between the four qualified Argentinians and everyone else. Lifesbad was quite disappointed with the scheduling of LATAM's regional finals, and believes China will once again have a big advantage having played their regionals so close to Worlds, and on the same patch in this case as well. In terms of his playstyle, Lifesbad has always had a preference for AD comps, especially onces he can force from different spots, but in this set he agrees it is a bit different due to augments changing things so drastically. Throughout Set 7, and with Cottontail's assistance, he's grown to become a much more flex player, and feels very comfortable with his current level of play and understanding of the game. He loves Xayah specifically, and thinks it is one of the most underrated comps by other regions following all the regional qualifiers. He's happy to play reroll as well, but feels these comps rely heavily on specific augment combinations.

Overall he thinks China is a step above the rest of the field, not so much because of their game knowledge or meta innovation, but more because of their execution. While watching regional finals from all over the world, there were many spots he disagreed entirely with a line players were taking in every single but one, China. Although there were times he would not have taken identical lines to the chinese players, every time he disagreed he felt he could justify and understand why they were taking those different lines, something he could not usually do when watching players in EMEA, NA or Korea.

And to the relief of all readers, Lifesbad's life, is indeed, not bad. He is very happy his chance of representing Argentina alongside his friends and compatriots this upcoming weekend, and stated he got the name way back when he was playing CS 1.6 with friends, as one of the most skilled players in his friends group had the name LifesGood because of the LG TV brand, and he chose to have the opposite name instead.

TexSummers - Twitter

I won't go too far into TexSummers as I covered the story of /CompetitiveTFT's, NA's, and Argentina's golden boy in my "Western LCQ - Player Profiles" post last weekend. What I can say is that whatever rumors of nerves and disappointing performances when under pressure where clearly disspelled throughout the Western LCQ, where TexSummers was able to perform incredibly consistently, with a 100% top 4 rate and some vary creative play, including a 4th place position with Nomsy Soul Siphon Darkflight. It seems TexSummers was the favorite to win LATAM regional for a reason, and there are high hopes for the player going into Worlds. Especially considering his closest friend and prep partner in the scene is Altenahue, the player who managed to elevate Argentina to the top of the international stage last set with a 6th place finish at the Championship, and a player who I'm sure can help Tex with the pressure of playing n the big stage for the first time.

Closing Words

Overall I think Argentina will have a strong performance coming into Worlds, and both LATAM and Brazil will continue to grow and improve for every set that is to come. There is a lot of passion and hunger in both scenes, but especially there is a very wholesome group mentality that will elevate the south american TFT scene forward. Qiqi, Lifesbad, and Fritz even managed to meet in person prior to the LATAM regionals as they were all attending the Argentina Game Show a month ago, and so you already know they have a great friendship and their vibes will be immaculate as they prep for this weekend. For tomorrow's post, I'll be going over the story of VCLF, Slooper, and Konda1 as I touch base with Brazil's community and competitive scene.

Wondering how high people got on the new event pass after its ended.
Would be nice if after a certain number of loops there'd be something special or at least increased event currency.
Started pass pretty much as it was available and played about 30 ranked and a lot of urf while it was going on.

2022.11.10 08:32 Musotom_ The 12.21 Last Minute Climbers Guide

Hey all! Musotom back again for another guide.
A lot of competition dies down around the end of a TFT season as people reach their goals and tournament players practice for regionals and worlds (or play another game). That being said, many take this as a opportunity to make that final push for the rank they are trying to achieve. I'd like to offer my perspective on the state of ladder and give some advice to players trying to climb at the end of season.
Lolchess: https://lolchess.gg/profile/oce/musotomAs of writing this post I am Challenger 529lp on the OCE server.

Know What Comps Are Good

I think most people have this down, but it's an important first step. Outside of watching your favourite twitch streamer, you can also learn which comps are meta by checking sites like https://tactics.tools/ or https://www.metatft.com/. If a comp is worth complaining about, it's worth playing.

Know WHEN You Can Play These Comps

THIS is the important part that I see most people struggle with. My read on this meta (and set 7.5 as a whole) is that you need to know the conditions under which you can play each meta comp, and correctly assess when you meet those conditions.
I see many people on ladder forcing comps, that on paper are good, but will finish 7/8 despite hitting their units. I believe the two conditions you need to play a comp are augments and items, not the actual units! Augments offer so much power to a comp that playing without them means you are losing to people that do build into that synergy.
An example: Yone reroll is a strong meta comp. If I start 2-1 with a Yone 2/Leona 2, I won't be playing Yone reroll unless I meet the item/augment conditions for it to do well.
> Items: RFC or Swiftshot emblem, Guinsoo's, +1>Augments: Swiftshot emblem(s), Scoped Weapons, Featherweights, early reroll augments (Pandora's Bench)
Yone is a melee carry, and so items like RFC or augments like Swiftshot emblem/Scoped Weapons allow him to attack safely from behind strong frontline like Braum. Playing without this addition range will lead to Yone getting sniped by backline as he walks up, and you taking a 5-8 unit loss because your carry is dead. You CAN play Yone without these items or augments if you are offered 6-7 on stage 2 or have a combination of strong combat augments, but often I will play around the items and augments I am given, not the units.
Fortunately, there are many comps in the meta that have fewer playability conditions due to being cheaper and hybrid AD/AP. Here I will offer my perspective on the conditions under which I think meta comps can be played. I will also include how forcible I think they can be.

Graves/Seraphine

Having early Lagoon is desirable but not mandatory.
Item dependant, but reforger from Lagoon is very powerful for forcing items.
Weak without combat augments.
Win condition is either Seraphine 3 (Level 7) or Graves/Pantheon 3 (Level 8) . Scout lobby to see what is open.

>Items: Zekes x3 (Zeri), Morello (Seraphine), Edge of Night/GA (Graves)
>Augments: Better Together, Prep, Celestial Blessing, Cybernetic augments, Pandora's Items
Forcibility: high

Daeja (Guild or Guardian)

Can frontline either Zippy with Guild or Guardian with Idas.
Often only running 4 Mirage (Leona + Guardians or Nunu + Sej/Hec).
All Mirage are good except electric overload. Use Daeja pirates > fast 9.
Daeja 1 is very stable with items, you can rolldown on Level 7 for a single Daeja and then econ for Level 8.

>Items: scaling + healing item on Daeja, e.g. Archangel + Gunblade + 1Items can depend on the mirage. For example, warlords gives AP, and so IE + JG + HoJ is a strong combo. With spellsword, Guinsoo's would be better than Archangel.
>Augments: Guild emblem, Celestial Blessing, Ascension, Jewelled Lotus, Best Friends
Forcibility: high

Soyfen (ShiOhYu + Syfen)

Often doesn't win lobbies as melee carries get outscaled by range, but very strong Stage 4/5 which allows for consistent top 4s.
Uses items very well given you can carry Syfen/ShiOhYu/Pantheon/Jayce.
As this comp aims to top 4, slamming any items early is very strong. You don't need to greed best is slot. Here are some examples good items if you get the choice of what to build.
>Items: Guinsoo's (Syfen), Edge of Night/GA/Titans/BT (Syfen/SOY), Morello/Spark/Archangel (Jayce). Thieves gloves are very good in this comp as they offer tempo.>Augments: Jade heart/soul, knives edge, Beast's Den, Any combat augment.
Forcibility: high

Kaisa Reroll

Very strong if early ShimmeLagoon. Weaker if forcing on 3-2 rolldown.
If uncontested, 3 staring whole board is win condition.
Can pivot into Lee Sin Dragonmancer carry if heavily contested.
If contested, augments like Golden Ticket or Think Fast are VERY good for sending people 8th.
3 star Kaisa without itemized/3 star frontline isn't very good.
Scout for Syfen/Lux/Rengar which can snipe solo backline Kaisa.

>Items: Blue Buff + JG (Kaisa), Sunfire + Spark (Zac), Guinsoo's/BT/Titans/Shiv (Voli)
>Augments: Dragonmancer emblem, Axiom Arc, Reroll augments, Featherweights
Forcibility: medium

Sohm

Requires early Lagoon.
Level 9 + Zoe 2/9 Lagoon/9 Mage win condition.
Sohm/Nilah often uncontested, can stay on Level 8 and roll for 3 star.
Early lagoon > 400 stacks > Neeko/Champ duplicator allows for 3 star win condition.
Frontline Sylas + Malphite needs to be itemized.
6 Lagoon should be: Sohm + Malphite + Taliyah + Nilah.

>Items: Blue Buff + Morello (Sohm), Tank items (Sylas), Zz'rot x 3 (Malphite)
>Augments: Lagoon/Mage emblem, Luden's, Blue Battery, Cybernetic Uplink
Forcibility: medium

Xayah

Play when highrolling as board can be expensive.
Shyvana 2 + Xayah 2 win condition.
If you need to roll on 7 to stabilize, don't play this comp.
Hold early Guild units (Sej/Twitch) as they can be hard to find on a Level 8 rolldown.
Jayce can be a tank or carry (hold shyv items).
Can play Zippy before Shyvana, keep Zippy if Guild emblem.

>Items: Guinsoo's + GS (Xayah), Morello/Spark/Archangel (Shyvana)
>Augments: Guild emblem, Combat augments to winstreak or econ augments to fast 8
Forcibility: conditional

Darkflight Rengar

Early emblem is important for darkflight essence (tacticians crown or cav is best).
Running multiple Rengars is very good for sniping backline (even without double trouble).
Itemized Swain will solo comps that don't have anti-heal.
Cornering Swain means only a few enemies can attack at once.
Roll down 3-2 for darkflights > winstreak.

>Items: Spat for essence, Morello + Tank (Swain), Zekes can replace Spat
>Augments: Double Trouble, Urf Grab Bag, Better Together, Darkflight Crest
Forcibility: medium

Ezreal Reroll

Abuses 6 Guardian buffs, requires early Guardian spat or augment.
Itemized Braum 3 is unkillable.
Scout for Syfen/Lux/Rengar which can snipe solo backline Ezreal.
Can pivot into Guardian + Daeja if lowrolling.

>Items: Blue Buff and either IE + JG or Archangel + GS (Ezreal), Tank items (Braum)
>Augments: Guardian emblem, Heroic Presence, Ascension
Forcibility: medium

4 Dragons is Good, But You Can't Force It Every Game

A big problem with the aforementioned statistics websites is that players will search the highest winrate comps and try to hard force them every game instead of playing the opener they are given.4 Dragons is undoubtedly one of the highest capped boards in set 7.5, becoming almost unbeatable with augments like Dragon Soul. Knowing this, it seems like a good idea to play this comp as often as possible, selling carries and frontline as soon as you find the Ao Shin and Terra.
This is a bad idea.
Given the increased cost of dragons, 4 Dragons takes A LOT of gold to build. On paper, frontline like Idas 2 costs 7*3 = 21 gold and carries like Ao Shin will cost 8*3 = 24 gold. In reality, holding this many dragons is going to lead to missed interest intervals which makes rolling down much harder. Moreover, for good rolldown odds, you really want to be Level 9 before you begin rolling down.
In order to play 4 Dragons, you NEED to have a strong enough early game such that you have enough HP to sacrifice stage 4/5. While you are levelling to 9 on stage 4/5, most of the lobby is either rolling down on Level 8 for 4 cost carries or have just completed their 2/3 cost rerolls - this means you will be taking a lot of damage. To survive this, you need to have enough HP which is gained from playing a strong board early.
Early 2 star boards, early shimmerscale or early dragons are often the conditions that allow forfast 9/4 Dragons. Forcing off Dragon Soul augment is also good.

Having A Gameplan

While the most optimal form of TFT would be to play completely flexibly, playing the strongest board you can make at all stages and seeing every line offered to you each game - this is very hard to do and lends itself many mistakes. A much easier gameplan is to chose a handful of comps that share similar items and flex between those comps. This allows you to be somewhat flexible, but not get too dizzy when you are offered a range of different carries.
Personally, I try to learn and practice both AD and AP lines because even when you start Sword, you can get offered Tear+Tear on stage 1. If you find yourself getting lost in game, sticking with just AD or AP lines will still be successful. Hopefully this guide can help players narrow down what they are playing and find the line that best suits their opener of items and augments.
Happy to answer any questions. Good luck climbing!

2022.11.07 23:02 a54carnage Is rengar or last whisper bugged?

Hey so I was playing a game of TFT and I was playing Darkflight Rengar. He had IE, Last Whisper on him. And I positioned correctly to kill my opponents carry right away. All was going well except when rengar reached full mana he jumped off said carry onto another unit while the carry proceeded to melt my team and cost me the game. If you're unaware Rengars ability causes him to jump to the lowest armor enemy unit and ruin their day and last whisper cuts a units armor in half after landing a crit. Soooooo??? Is it base armor? If so why isn't that reflected in the text? Is it possible for a random unit to have less armor than a carry with 50% reduced armor? Am I stupid and just suck at reading? Any help in figuring this out would be awesome thanks in advance.
Edit: Unit jumped to was Twitch unit jumped off was 3* yone
TLDR: My Rengar jumped off enemy carry with last whisper stack on it to a random unit what the fuck?

2022.11.07 05:25 clamclamyan From new player to top 20 challenger in one set - progression of concepts learnt

Hey all, I began playing this game halfway through set 6.5 and reached master in 4 weeks. In set 7, I hit challenger for the first time and currently in 7.5, I’m sitting at #18 Challenger as of writing this post. I thought making this post would help provide insight to the tips and concepts I picked up in my journey. Obligatory lolchess!
Week 1: Unranked to Silver When beginning TFT, I started with a couple of advantages, the first being that I’d played dota underlords when it was still around so I understood the basic premise of the autochess genre (buying units/xp, making interest). Secondly, I’d played league from season 3 to season 9 so I at least could recognise half the cast and their identity (e.g. Draven is ranged ADC, Alistar is tank, Swain is AP/tank) as well as the general gist of what an item/component accomplishes (e.g. IE is AD/crit for autos, warmogs is tons of hp).
The largest obstacle at first was simply trying to remember all the item recipes and learning all the traits that existed. Of course, learning traits can be ignored in favor of blindly following online team comps. So, the first week or so of playing was focused on learning component combinations without regard to when to reroll or level. Almost every game would begin with the same formula, play random units early game while looking at the 3 dropped components and trying to figure out what items they could make and what build made use of those items. Importantly, with 3 distinct components, there’s 3 permutations of item + component possible so you must try to fit in the spare component also.
Of course, as a new player, I had no idea what the item recipes of that component were so the majority of my first games were overwhelming with too many components that I didn’t know how to fit. Still, most of the games have semi-relevant items slammed since knowing 2 components are adc/mage/tank components still generates a decently fitting item.
Week 2: Silver to Plat In the second week, I’d learnt the item recipes by now and had tried most of the top builds at the time (since I didn’t really know what items were good, I’d grab a random component first carousel and that would orientate me towards an AP comp half the games and AD comps half the games). Here, I learnt to tackle the next hurdle which separated TFT from Dota Underlords, item removal.
Since the best comps are usually strong later game comps by design, which are heavy in 4+ costs, you will not be finding the carries for these types of comps at the start of the game. I felt it a waste to not utilize the slammed items of the final comp so this is when I learnt how to transition the items onto the carries using the concept of item holders (by slamming good items onto early game units, one can minimize damage early while waiting for the 4 cost carries to come online).
A side product of playing flexibly was learning the core of every meta comp so I could roll down 30+ gold for upgrades at 1hp. This is usually enough to hold on for enough rounds to top 4 more consistently to climb silver to plat.
Week 3: Plat to Diamond By the third week, I’d understood the foundations of the game and had tried every comp at least a couple times. This is where I really began learning all the nuances.
Firstly, I became more aware of reroll odds due to playing many different comp styles (optimal levels to roll 6 for 2 costs, 7 for 3 costs, 8 for 4 costs). This is core for minimizing money spent on rolling for units.
Secondly, it became easier to understand the objective for any particular game; based on my health, econ, highrolls or lowrolls, etc, etc, I could decide whether I was aiming for top 1, top 4 or top 6 that game.
Basic scouting concepts could also now be applied. I began to look for what builds the lobby was playing and determining what to play based on the lobby (did I want to hold hands with 3 other yordle players?). Scouting is also necessary for basic positioning (e.g. zephyr and shroud placement, clumping around carry against assassins, opposite cornering seraphine against enemy carries).
Relatedly, it was also when I learnt to understand the win condition of the meta comps. Sometimes, it was a 3 star angle if uncontested; sometimes, 2 starring everything was sufficient; sometimes, leveling to 9 and adding a trait (e.g. mystic) was the win con; sometimes the win con is just to prayge for high-roll legendary (jayce for 7 innovator).
In plat, I also learnt to avoid simple baits. 3 starring a unit can oftentimes be a curse which costs a ton of econ throughout the game. What’s the difference between a 2 star and a 3 star 0 item trait bot? In a similar fashion, (using current set example since I forget 6.5 comps) if I’m running an early ezreal swiftshot comp with olaf splashed in for bruiser, what’s the point in adding in the warrior trait for my 0 item traitbot olaf. I’d rather add in a duplicate ezreal.
Week 4: Diamond to Master By diamond elo, players would consistently be able to cap out a meta comp by the late game if they highrolled. Here, the key was consistency. I learnt how to cap faster or higher than the other players.
Pressure was the major concept I developed as I climbed. By getting in board strength immediately and figuring out the game later on, other players bleed more health and have less time to reach their capped boards.
Firstly, I’d rather finish unfinished components immediately than greed BIS. Also, item stacking on a random flexible unit is very strong early on before players have enough components to 3 item BIS anything. (e.g. I’d rather a warmogs + damage item warwick than warmogs on frontline and damage on backline). Part of the reason I was able to play like this is that I enjoyed playing flexibly so I never had to worry about removing the item since the unit was inevitably sold.
Secondly, to play flexibly, I learnt to hold everything in stage 1 if I couldn’t make 10 anyway. It literally cost no interest and could POTENTIALLY be played (even if I had full AP items, am I really gonna say no to a 2-1 2-star warwick?).
An important concept I learnt for playing flex boards early/mid game is to understand what the current board composition lacks. Balancing frontline and backline is super important, 2 starred swiftshots/snipers with a single 1 star 0 item frontline will still lose to any other comp. Likewise, a full guardian/bodyguard/bruiser frontline will get ruined if the other team has a single 2 starred backline with rageblade/archangel. It’s important to make sure the team is not too lacking in any one aspect.
As a result of applying pressure with early board strength, win streaks became quite natural although I didn’t understand HOW IMPORTANT streaks were at the time. This generally meant that I could be healthy coming into stage 4. Thus, I was granted many opportunities to limit test fast 9. Learning to fast 9 is a set dependent strategy which allows you to cap much higher than other capped boards (extra slot, 2-star legendaries). And no, I don’t mean set dependent as in there's a million legendary dragons to slot in currently (set 7.5), I mean it’s set dependent as in learning what to use to survive the early and mid game. This is where I first learnt ultra late game transitions. Since I was following meta builds and they did not have many legendaries as part of their core, it was a learning experience to figure out when and how to slot them into a build. This strategy (which I still use in this set) allows me to cap faster than others early game and cap higher than other players late game.
The final common concept which was enough to push masters was learning the strengths and playstyles of augments. e.g. For scaling augments which gain strength the longer the game goes (loot master, the scrap thingo, golden egg, cluttered/clear mind), sacrificing interest to stay alive longer is often worth the lost interest. For augments with flat number effects or other early game effects (e.g. electrocharge, knife edge, new recruit), they will usually set up a win streak angle on 2-1 so playing strongest board instead of econ will often be worthwhile (sometimes, it’s correct to play the econ since you’ll win anyway with these augments! e.g. with cursed crown or cruel pact). Both of these styles of augments complement the flex early into late game transition playstyle that I enjoyed.
These fundamental concepts formed the bulk of my learnings in my first month to masters.
Set 7: Here be Dragons Set 7 was where I really learnt how to play the game and climbed from master to challenger. Dragons opened up a can of worms which accelerated learning multiple concepts. Due to taking up double slots and costing double amounts without being any rarer, dragons were usually MUCH stronger than their 4 cost or 5 cost counterparts. This meant the set brought a lot more high roll moments if one was opportunistic enough to play anything.
The first thing I learnt in this set was how to pivot quickly. Rather than playing a progressive pivot with item holders into later units, dragons were so oppressive that hitting any early dragon necessitated a full pivot into building around them. This was an eye opening phenomena since I realised that a majority of most comps are just trait bots. There’s almost always only a few units holding a comp together that matter, in this case, the dragons make the comp and the other units are just there for synergies. Really all this means is that for most units in a comp, “1 star 2 star no diff”. Don’t try to hold onto random nonsense units to make a comp work when they only matter once the comp is finished (e.g. when playing for a daeja comp, unless there’s a warrior opener or yone is holding rageblade/rfc, yone is pretty much just there for 6 mirage, no point holding 2 star yone to sac interest if it doesn’t slot in til daeja arrives anyway. Rolling for a 1 star yone is equally as strong).
With an emphasis on adapting to a dragon high-roll despite not playing for them initially, items are a lot more awkward since I did not make them with the dragon in mind. So, rather that remembering BIS, it became more flexible just to understand why items or item combinations were good for units (e.g. JG is important for units with high AP such as dmancers since JG is a multiplier and extra AP is additive, you want to balance AS and AD for ADCs for a similar reason, rageblade better on faster base AS units since they can compound the stacking faster).
In this set, I also learnt the MOST IMPORTANT TFT LESSON. INTEREST GOLD IS FAKE. Win streak and loss streak gold is MUCH more important and everything else is about enforcing win streaks and minimising loss streak damage. Tying into streaking is advanced scouting and advanced positioning. When scouting, look to see if you can beat the players up next. If a level up is enough to continue a win streak, LEVEL UP. If there’s only 1 beatable player and the others are highrolling outta their minds, position around beating the beatable player (if you are win streaking). Do the opposite if you are loss streaking (DO NOT EVER WIN 2-6 if you lost the first 4).
More advanced positioning tricks can be used at this point as well including wrapping units around their frontlines to reach backlines, cheesing neeko ult positioning, unclumping against AoE targeting effects.
Momentum is the last concept I used to reach GM and challenger from masters. e.g. if winstreaking, FORCE winstreak. If loss-streaking, FORCE loss streak. The core timings are the inflexion points, when does one turn from a win streak to loss streak and when does one turn loss streak into win streak? Common examples of dropping a win streak to loss streak is stage 4 when no longer rolling for upgrades to fast 9 instead or when seeing the entire lobby high roll win streak augments on 3-2. Converting a loss streak to win streak is commonly done at augment stages such as 3-2 or 4-2 and rolling for a strong board although converting loss streak to win streak is often done when hitting a vital unit such as the stage 2 dragon high roll or having 4 pairs and hitting the carry 2 star (easy to roll for upgrades and start win streak).
TLDR: Learn to slam flexible items on early game units. Hard force win streak into loss streak or vice versa. Transition into mid game comp which uses said items. Transition into late game comp which uses said items.
