2022.06.23 02:15 butterstherooster Topiary Puppy
Title is exactly what you think it is.
Client calls three times on our off day looking for his med order. Each message gets more insistent. (He can look on our website to double check our hours but whateves.) I call this morning to let him know that it's ready for pickup. OK, phone slam.
Wife shows up when we're just about to do a dental. I bring the order up. She has me running around looking for bags. Then she decides she wants the light up dog topiary sitting up front that my boss bought for decoration. IDEXX Neo won't let me add a miscellaneous charge. I still have to get back for the dental, and this lady is wasting time on this silly topiary. Finally, she gives me cash for it, I bag up the order, and it's thankfully quiet for the rest of the day. That was enough high maintenance shenanigans for one day.

2022.05.10 16:34 jr9386 Convenience
This has been grating on me for some time, and I think I am slowly coming to the realization of why.
So disclaimer, convenience is something many of us seek, especially when it comes to medical care, especially given our work schedules. But that said, this si a particular issue that I've encountered recently at my GP.
For starters, I'm always a bit perplexed by the fact that my GP actually has availability for same-day appointments. We always manage to get booked up, whether it be for initial consults, or for established patients, but I digress. Nevertheless, each and every single time that a client checks out and says that they'd like to switch over to us, or that they leave a review indicating the convenience of getting in, I always think to myself "What happened to the relationship you built and established with your pet's original primary?" But furthermore, what happens when the demand for appointments outpaces your ability to accept new clients? In the case of the former, I usually think of it in terms of the client becoming demanding to the point of excess, especially since they've only come to us once and are already looking to "switch over". It reminds me of people seeking lifestyle gurus, but that's another subject. In so far as the latter, I look at it in terms of my experience working in human medicine. Doctors would often decline taking on new patients. While at times this might have seemed cruel, I also understand the need to preserve the value of their time and the quality of medicine they provide to already established clients. Obviously, exceptions to the rule would happen, but exceptions to the rule are just that, exceptions. That however does not often seem to be the case in veterinary medicine. I did work at a practice where for a time we were not taking on new clients at the main practice, but did through our sister practice, the same with certain DVMS. That didn't last long, especially since we shared a common database, and some clients would use it as a backdoor means to get in to see their specified doctor once they were established with us. There is a reason that I prefer Cornerstone above all other veterinary programs. It provides client AND patient alerts when you book an appointment vs. having to go to the patient clipboard to book an appointment (I dislike Idexx Neo, Vetter, and all cloud-based software for that reason.).
This isn't so much my "venting" as it is an observation within the field. It honestly pains me on a much deeper level, because growing up, I always wanted to work in the veterinary field. It was a dream of mine since I can always remember, but the jarring cultural and political shift in the field has only left me disgusted to be quite frank. What are veterinarians going to do when they have no staff left to work, but clients keep wanting to be seen?
We had a Tech/Assistant put in their notice who used to process the prescription refill requests for my practice. Not everyone is equipped to do that, and while we have one person left on staff who does them, I heard through the grapevine that they're also seeking employment elsewhere. So who does that leave to process the bulk of those requests? I've processed those requests in human medicine, but I have no interest in doing so within a veterinary setting. Not only does it comes at the expense of preserving the quality of patient care to have, more than likely, unqualified staff process those requests, but it only adds more to the "jack of all trades, but master of none." mentality prevalent in veterinary medicine. At the end of the day, clients don't care, because "We were able to fit them in.", and doctors have the know-how to actually work up cases when things go wrong. But what about the burden that places on the rest of your staff as a matter of conscience? There are a number of things in my experience that veterinarians have said or done that make me wonder whether it is all worth it in the end.

2019.05.08 05:14 badpauly Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days)
This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report.
