Briefly speaking, I am looking for some advice for my current life situation. I want to include some backstory which may help with advice, so it may be a bit of a read.
TLDR at the bottom.
BACKSTORY:
To save the sob story, I (22M) moved out when I was 19 due to family hardship and thinking it would be better for my development and establish some independence.
I was still in post secondary at the time so for the next 3 years I was able to bounce around from my girlfriends place and then into my own spot with roommates. This is where I’ve been the last 2 years. My family ended moving hours away back to their home town to rekindle with the majority of my family. After a couple years of moving out they offered me to move there if I needed it, but this would be at the cost of my network where I’m from and forcing my girlfriend into a rough situation.
Financial stability was never really a problem until January this year. I graduated college about a year ago, and decided to bridge into a degree program as I only achieved a diploma in college. My thought process was since it was in the health sciences field, academia is influential to opportunity.
Decided to give it a shot even though I had to commute an hour out 4x/ week as I couldn’t afford to live out there (big city and Canadian living in Ontario, if you know you know) and the place I was staying was pretty cheap so in comparison, I’d pay the difference in my commute.
Fast forward through a semester, my mental health was shot, extremely burnt out, sleeping like shit, stopped going to the gym and barely eating for about 6 months. At the time I was working part time, enrolled in full time studies and living off my part time income + scholarship. I never really budgeted my finances but always got the bills paid on time.
I quickly started to fall behind in my courses and by the end of the first semester, I barely passed. I was ready to attempt a second semester and take some time off work to focus on my studies. With my scholarship instalments, I was fortunate enough to be able to handle about a month off work financially speaking, to start the new semester off strong and in a better mental state.
Everything was set and then come the beginning of the next semester, I received an abrupt notice that I was being flunked out of my program due to my poor academic performance. I was unaware I had to maintain a certain average to progress in the program, which is my own fault. As a result, this had terminated my scholarship and suddenly I had to find a way to make ends meet; my part time job was not going to cut it. This took me by surprise and shifted my focus in life into survival mode.
For the month I was off work (the unpaid leave had already been in place before receiving notice of being kicked out of school) I had enough money to get by for that month while searching for full time work and regathering my mental health.
During this time, I had a few interviews but by the end of the month I had not landed a full-time opportunity so I decided to go back to my part time job while continuing to search. This was February of 2023.
I was applying to a plethora of jobs, most even not industry-related to my college education. Reluctantly, I only landed a job where my qualifications aligned. It was a personal training job at a corporate fitness facility, which is where my passion lies in fitness + health.
If you know anything about a personal training career, the money does not come quick. You have to establish your book of clients before it can be financially fruitful and this calls for many long days, unpaid hours volunteering your time to sell personal training and ultimately make your mark.
This can take months to start making consistent coin at a steady premium rate but fitness is something I am really passionate about teaching. I knew it would be risky but it was the only option in front of me to potentially make more money and the rate was pretty good IF you can establish yourself to work a full-time schedule.
I’ve been at this job for just over 3 months. I’ve slowly built up a decent client base, but it barely makes ends meet most of the months I’ve been working here and I have debt to pay off from student loans and credit cards.
When I’m working with clients to improve their quality of life by helping them reach their goals with my expertise, it is truly a great feeling. What I’m struggling with is the instability of income and that brings me a ton of stress.
I could have a decently full week scheduled but after some cancellations or rescheduling/what have you, it can turn that around quickly which means less income. This grindy process to build my calendar month to month doesn’t allow me to get ahead whatsoever financially and one unexpected expense could throw me into more debt or falling behind on bills.
Recently I started applying to labour jobs that will give a set amount of hours which will allow me to have some predictability with my finances and create more financial stability; so your typical 9-5.
I have a few interviews lined up, just to explore some opportunity. But now my debate is between less financial stability and more fulfilling work which is where I’m at right now, or a less fulfilling job with more financial stability.
THE VERDICT:
Everyone always says to choose a job you enjoy instead of chasing a pay check, and I feel like I’ll be going against that even though it might be necessary as my finances are struggling which brings me a lot of stress. I’m talking about barely being able to put food on the table right now type of struggling so riding it out brings more risk and unknown to my finances.
I’m torn to make the decision of leaving my job and possibly regretting it. I know it makes me feel a sense of purpose more than a labour job would and the management is pretty great and supportive for success, all while still pushing quotas and hours goals for my position so a bit of corporate stress too. But the nature of the job to get the ball rolling while taking financial impact is weighing on my mental and finances pretty heavily for the last few months. Some weeks are great, others I have a ton of stress and self-doubt.
I feel like if I had a nice financial cushion going into this PT thing, I would have far less worries about staying afloat and could stop living with a sense of scarcity so I could focus on refining my skills. I want to make sure I’m not missing the mark on life even though money is an obvious need right now.
If I can’t make something happen for myself, I’m forced to move with family and start over. This will bring me less stress in terms of responsibility until I can get back on my feet, at the cost of my relationships (friends/gf) in the city I’ve grown up.
Based on my situation, what would you do?
Looking for constructive advice, or if you can speak from any similar experience it would be insightful.

My ex left and it's been a couple of months. He's been very difficult because he's mentally unstable. I've been told that I'm liable for his belongings as long as they are in my possession. But this has been going on for months.
He co-operated for a bit and took a lot of it (mostly me driving it to where he is staying) but now we have fallen out and the last of his stuff is still at the unit that we lived in. He is not on the lease anymore already.
The place HAS to be emptied so the bond cleaners can do their job. Then the keys will be handed back by the end of this week.
If he doesn't collect his thing before the bond clean. What can I legally do? I have emailed him (only form of contact he will allow). I might mention here that he has already sold a phone I leant him (I'm still paying the contract off). He also has in his possession a large screen Dell laptop of mine that he agreed to pay for but I am pretty sure he has sold that too and doubt he will pay me for it because he didn't pay for the phone I leant him. (Yes stupid I know to trust him). Since he sold my property, I feel like I shouldn't have take care of his stuff anymore!
He has until Monday night now. I've already extended the deadline to Monday and it definitely can't be there any longer. I can't afford to have it sent to him by professionals and my family aren't going to take it to him as they don't like him and are telling me to throw it out. They are happy to pick it up and throw it out but they won't take it to my ex which is fair enough.
It's like he is holding this over me just to cause me problems. What can I do here legally? Can I throw his stuff out if he misses the deadline?
All it is, is 1 box of stuff that includes sentimental items maybe. And a wooden sideboard cabinet thing with a glass door. It's very big and heavy.
I just want this nightmare to be over so I can move on.

My parents are by no means rich but thankfully they aren’t poor either. I’d say they’re extremely hard working and now have enough to be able to live with disposable income. They come from the mindset that parents take care of kids then kids take care of old parents and the cycle continue with the next generation while each generation should vastly improve the legacy of the previous gen and accomplish things or improve the wealth of the previous generation.
When growing up, I’ve never asked my parents for any money. I went to a public college and I’m grateful that they paid for almost all of it. Now I told them I can pay back but they don’t accept it.
After college I worked for many many years all day all night, most holidays and never asked anyone for any money. I saved up and invested enough to be able live for a couple of years without working full time.
Now I’m at the point that I’m focusing on my ideas and new products for my startup. I’m using my own saved up money but my parents offered they could chip in as an investment if i seem it’s worth it. When growing up, I’ve never asked my parents for any money. I went to a public college and I’m grateful that they paid for almost all of it. Now I told them I can pay back but they don’t accept it.
After college I worked for many many years all day all night, most holidays and never asked anyone for any money. I saved up and invested enough to be able live for a couple of years without working full time.
Now I’m at the point that I’m focusing on my ideas and new products for my startup. I’m using my own saved up money but my parents offered they could chip in as an investment if i seem it’s worth it. They say at the end i am going to inherit it anyway so it’s better to be put in good use as long as it’s for investment and companies. They know im not the type of person to act like a trust fund baby and waste it on materialistic things.
The thing is this, I feel guilty even even spending $1 of their money since I did not earn it. She now uses me as a escape from her terrible hostel life, which I was fine with till she came over to my house and admitted that she not only has a new best friend but that she was sad that the boy she liked (loves) wasn't willing to meet with her and that she only came over to meet with him.
The other thing that really hurt me was that we decided to meet this new uni friend I made. She has this issue of kinda being self absorbed to the point where she continued to talk only about the guy that she liked to my friend and didn't really bother asking him any questions. Not only that but when my friend asked her questions about me her responses really fazed me because I didn't know that's how she viewed me. She said words like yeah "I clinged onto her" (me to her) and that whenever I would address my issues with her I would basically be "throwing a fit". This visit btw was imposed on me by her, I didn't want to meet her since I was still grieving my dead cat and things were really terrible for me when she stayed over
This was the last time I talked to her in person,after that she asked me if I wanted to hang out I said no. Now, she has messaged me saying that she knows that I was sad and that she's trying her best.

Hi!! I know what you're going to think when you see this post, isn't 14 too young for relationships? Me and my girlfriend are both 14 years old. We're classmates. So recently, she has been cold to me. To elaborate on that, she barely makes any effort to start conversations with me and doesn't even approach or talk with me whenever we see each other in school. My problem is that, she acts like that towards me and she acts completely different toward her friends. Whenever we do get into a conversation her replies are kind of dry and it's fucking annoying. My parents are by no means rich but thankfully they aren’t poor either. I’d say they’re extremely hard working and now have enough to be able to live with disposable income. They come from the mindset that parents take care of kids then kids take care of old parents and the cycle continue with the next generation while each generation should vastly improve the legacy of the previous gen and accomplish things or improve the wealth of the previous generation.

Hi all,
I'm due to finish my PhD in ~6 weeks, which is in molecular biology. I've currently written 5/6 chapters, of which I hate most of them and know they need additional work and polish to be in a good enough state for submission. I've sent drafts of each chapter to my supervisors as I have completed them, but have had little to no feedback. I've asked them multiple times to give me feedback, but they either ignore my emails or brush me off in person due to being busy/other commitments.
Alongside this, one of my supervisors expects me to stay in the lab until certain experiments are complete. These experiments will take a minimum of 4 weeks to complete. I had intended to complete these in March, but reagent delays and my lab moving building delayed it until now. Due to my lab spending money on reagents, and that no one else has the time or experience to undertake these experiments, my supervisor said I have to complete them. We spoke about thus yesterday as I said I was concerned about the time pressure, that I won't have time to write them into my thesis anyway and that given the lack of feedback on my thesis, I'll need time to edit it. My supervisor told me I need to manage my time and stress to complete the experiments and my thesis, as the experiments are essential for a publication. My supervisor would like to publish my research after I leave, although I'm confused as to how - he doesn't know my research and the results aren't as good as he probably thinks they are. Being completely honest, they're not upto a publication standard.
Alongside this, another PhD student is due to finish later this month. He has been given advice and his thesis has been read by my supervisors. He is also not expected to be in the lab. Another PhD student who finished in March was given advice on their thesis too.
Lastly, part of my research is analysed by bioinformatitions. My research was not properly analysed by them, which I noticed. It took until 2 weeks ago for this to be resolved and I'm still waiting on all my data to be available. I told my supervisors about this and they gave me next to no support.
I'm honestly at the end of my capacity right now. I'm anxious and stressed. I've almost missed my intention to submit deadline because I have no time to focus on anything other than data analysis, writing and experiments.

So I noticed that I like to read self-help books, watch youtube videos of therapists giving advice, go to workshops, conferences and have been going to a therapist. I go because my well-being is a priority, curiosity for information and to better my life.
When I read the book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents I really resonated with the part about Internalizers. I think perhaps it all kind of overlaps like being scapegoat and being criticized, not feeling good enough so I want to keep bettering myself. It's not always bad thing because it has made me so aware especially to the abuse in family dynamics, how to set my own boundaries and improve my mental health.
I noticed in the family no one really wants to better themself. They still have their addictions and the same repetitive destructive behaviours. None of my family really reads any self-help books or go to workshops/conferences/communities/therapy that really will elevate their well-being.

I’ll keep it straight to the point I’ve been seeing her for roughly 6 months and this was a huge bomb to drop on me. The current situation is that we live 3 hours travel apart, and for the past 6 month I thought it had been going as well as it possibly could have. She still wants me “around” but that only seems to be so that she can come back to me when she’s bored or had enough of having our exclusivity open. She has driven to the town that I live in to tell me all of this, but also says that the amount that we get to see each other is not “enough”.

No hdmi signal or broken gpu
Yesterday day after updating my gpu to the newest drivers (rtx 4090 Gainward) everything worked fine until i switched my pc off and then back on. My monitor is Lg C2 Oled after booting up it starde seeing black screen flickering and some random colors switching showing me Green and Yellow screen and only showed Hdr logo in top right tried to switch to different hdmi output , then it worked fine but it had wired stuttering and some lose of signal. Restarted my pc and the same wired color switching appeared tried this on every tv output. Then tried connecting my pc to my small portable screen with hdmi everything worked perfectly normal. I just downloaded the previous driver i think it was 532. and Display Driver Uninstaller, runned DDU for clean install of the driver but after uninstalling my current driver my pc rebooted but ther is no signal now on bot of the displays my gpu Rgb is still working but i only have picture in bios. (Im on Windows 11)
Did i broke my gpu somehow never had this kind of issue please guys i need help for this

I have been growing out my natural silver have about 3 inches now. 2 years ago I dyed it with powdered cassia ready for it to be all silver hair is about bra strap length...with natural brown underneath and ssalt and pepper on top. The cassia just won't fade!!!! Will it ever go away? Ive tried dandruff shampoo. Clarifying shampoo. Oil treatments. Once did oil treatment with a little tea tree oil. Still there. Any advice on how to get it out??

just over 3 weeks ago i had a breakdown and went to seek help from a doctor who prescribed me antidepressants for my depression, anxiety, appetite and sleep.
yesterday the doctors surgery waited until the last minute to inform me that my follow up appointment for monday is cancelled and that i’m no longer a patient there because i’m outside the catchment area and they can’t find an nhs number for me.
this is infuriating because for 3 weeks now i’ve been asking them to simply send an email to my gp in ireland to request my medical records which will have my nhs number and yet the message is always distorted and never followed through on.
now i have a week of my medication left, no doctor and no medical records.
i have to find a new gp while balancing it with work - who’ve already brought it up as an issue that i have to attend therapy and doctor appointments during work hours (i get 1 and a “half” days off - more like 2 hours less on the day) and i can’t access the self referral help that the doctor sent me to because i still don’t have the nhs number that they tell me they need.
my therapy is private and im funding it myself because i’m trying to get through this. i’m not even mad at this shitshow. i’m just disheartened that i tried to get help and it feels like the door has been slammed in my face. my anxiety is through the roof today because i don’t want to have to talk to my boss about this and have it stressed how much of an inconvenience it is, and i’m worried about coming off the meds that i’ve been adjusting to and have probably helped me through the past few weeks. im nowhere near a healthier place in my mind and it sucks because all of a sudden it’s like

It had been left in the hive over the winter. It was super concentrated and picked up a whole lot of wild microbes tbh. :) SG was 1.140 and there was a ton of micro pieces of wax (cause I steeped the honey wax mixture in water and used a bag to strain) Fermentation was scary because after a while it developed a deadly nail polish scent. It lingered but I didn't lose hope. After 6-7 months from the start, the nail polish faded almost completely. It landed at around 15.9% ABV with a lot of residual sugar but not crazy (~90 gL assuming these estimates work. They don't.). pH = 3.57 I oaked it lightly with cubes for 4 weeks, it left a subtle vanilla. Ok. It's really really balanced and fragrant. The honey has notes of California wild fennel. I won't lie: there are still subtle notes of nail polish and banana but they're muted enough that I declare victory. My point being: "hive-aged" honey can pick up all kinds of funk. |
