Early to established church

2023.06.04 18:26 Agentbasedmodel Early to established church

In the book of Acts, the Early Church is clearly portrayed as a radical egalitarian community. E.g. all sold their belongings before entering.
However, by the time of the earliest surviving churches - the Copts of North Eastern africa, it is quite clear the church had radically evolved. E.g. We have elaborate and ornate byzantine paintings, and quite a mystical view of the Faith.
I find this transition fascinating because its route is less obvious than it becoming the state religion of Rome. Does anyone know about this period of history / branch of Christianity?

If you are looking for an adventure in the Himalayas, #UpperMustangTrek should be on your list. Located in the north-central part of Nepal, Upper Mustang is a remote and isolated region that was once a part of the Tibetan Empire. The region was opened to outsiders only in 1992, and it still requires a special permit to visit. Visit us for a brief guide to the Upper Mustang Trek.

Help ID - Drone or something else?
Earlier this year in February I was out taking photos of the Northern Lights when what I thought was a drone came up and hovered so I decided to swing my camera over for a few shots. This is the Scottish Highlands on the North Sea. We are in a small community so I know most of the local photographers and I have never seen them take night shots with a drone. It was not in tourist season so I seriously doubt someone was in town running a drone at night.
I catch a lot of random satellites and military jets flying by at night so I know exactly what they look like. See the white line which was a jet (I'm assuming military as they are the only ones who fly over this particular area at night doing rounds).
I have seen the red "drone" before though but never this close. On other occasions its come out of the clouds or across the water and then looked at me then moved away and disappeared (appeared as a red dot in the sky). I just assume its a military drone and don't freak out but this past week or so I've seen other types of UAPs followed by military jets and with the NASA thing I thought I'd go back to some of these pictures to take a closer look.
Can anyone help me ID this? Before you say lens flare I don't believe that's it as I have a ton of other pictures with lens flares and none looking like this and again if my memory serves me right I specifically saw the drone fly up which is why I was really surprised and swung my camera around for a few shots. The Northern Lights started up soon after which is why I only took a few pictures.
Thank you in advance for any ideas you may have.

2023.06.04 18:24 wagdron The Hottest Asians? Let's decide! (from 4chan /hm/)

In my opinion, I think the most handsome Asian men; is not the usual suspects, i.e: the Japanese, Koreans, Taiwanese, Hong Kongers, Chinese or Mongolians who are labeled as the stereotypical Asian AKA East Asians, and even when expanding the Asian category into including Southeast Asians like the Indonesians, Thailanders, Vietnamese, Malaysians, Myanmarese, Singaporeans, East Timorese, and Bruneians, and even South Asians like the Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, and Maldivians, the hottest Asians are not the usual suspects. Also, if the term Asian is understood in the original sense of the word, “Asian” meaning everything east of Asia Minor in Turkey, which means the peoples called: Arabs, Persians (Iranians), Turks, and Indians are all Asians too. So even if you include all these regions under the spectrum that is “Asian”, I think the Koreans, Arabs, Persians (Iranians), Upper Caste North Indians, Turks, and Japanese are among the hottest Asians. My reasoning for this is that, Persians (Iranians) and Upper Caste North Indians have Caucasian features due to their Indo-European heritage and linguistics which are responsible for their sharp and very manly features, with Arabs they are Pseudo Caucasian too, as for the Japanese they also have Pseudo Caucasian features in the aboriginal Jomon people before the Yayoi immigrated in and mixed with them. Also, Koreans are arguably the hottest of the aforementioned because Koreans are a very vain people with a large and well developed beauty & cosmetics industry. When everyone can afford plastic surgery, almost everybody will be hot and attractive, of course, and it shows in Korean statistics, they have the highest plastic surgery rates in the world, which I don’t mind at all since I can ogle at a lot of hot men. However, the cream of the crop when it comes to being the most attractive Asians when it comes to men are none of those mentioned before, but the Filipinos from the Philippines.
Why do I say so? It’s mainly because you could have the whole gamut of world races and phenotypes in the Philippines alone. As we all know, beauty, aside from having an objective aesthetic basis, also is affected by personal preference. Some people like soft features, some like sharp ones, some like jocks while others, twinks, some like dark skin and others light, thus, diversity is the spice of life.
According to this study: (https://www.academia.edu/38744342/Classification_Trends_Among_Modern_Filipino_Crania_Using_Fordisc_3_1)
Filipinos can be classified into several ethnicities, the majority is Asian, HOWEVER, the Philippines also contains ethnicities not found in Asia; like Hispanics (Latinos), and Native Americans. The Africans and Europeans in the Philippines which are mainly Spaniards and African-Americans can also be found in other Asian countries like the Africans in India or the Portuguese peoples in East Timor and Macau, however the proliferation of Hispanics (Latinos) and Native Americans in the Philippines makes it unique in all of Asia, as there are no other Asian countries which have Latinos and Native Americans living in them. When this fact is paired with the presence of Chinese, Indians, and Arabs, forming communities in the Philippines which mixed with the mainstream Malays and indigenous Negritos, then the Philippines is among the most racially diverse countries on the planet. This genetic and racial diversity is the secret to why the Filipinos are the hottest Asians, since there’s always a corresponding Filipino for every “type” of guy a gay dude could lust for; want a dark skinned BBC hunk? There’s a Negrito-Tamil Filipino basketball player for your fetish. Want a white Jock top? There’s an upper caste Spanish-Filipino Conyo to fuck you. Want some Latino twink? There’s a Mexican-Filipino Puto who will BJ you. There’s a variety of different dicks for you to savor and sample whereas with other Asian countries you are just stuck with one. This makes the Philippines, hands down, the hottest Asian nationality. In relation to this I will be posting GIFs and Webms of hot Filipinos, in erotic contexts.

2023.06.04 18:19 CartersPlain What percentage of existing homes in Southern Ontario....

Weren't built by developers?
Aren't built on prime farmland?
Canada has the 6th largest amount of arable land of all countries in the world.
I'm genuinely confused after driving across farm fields for 2 straight days on my move to Alberta why people are more passionate about the greenbelt than affordable housing in general? I don't for one second believe that if the NDP or Liberals opened up the greenbelt, you'd get the same anger.
If you're bound by a lake to the south and bound by a nature preserve to the north, but keep piling people in, things can only get worse. Now, people drive hours across the greenbelt. Barrie to Milton, etc.
How is that more environmentally friendly than my friend being able to build housing on his parents' property that sits unused and undevelopable?

2023.06.04 18:15 frank_and_beans Thinking About Travel Differently

There are a few factors that have led me to start thinking a little bit differently about my approach to travel.
I've been lucky enough to do some fantastic travel over the past decade+. I've covered good chunks of 30+ countries on 4 continents. For these trips, I've mostly focused on "seeing the highlights." I feel like I've seen a lifetime of gorgeous churches/temples, ancient ruins, stunning vistas, white sand beaches, etc... I've eaten and drank my heart out. I've made intriguing (if transient) connections with travelers and locals. I guess this sounds a little like bragging, but there's a point.
My most recent trip was to Indonesia. My wife and I had two weeks, which is probably the most we'll ever have for a vacation again until we retire (thanks to American work culture). We did about a week of "highlights" in Bali, which was honestly underwhelming. I could see the potential charm of the temples and waterfalls and beaches, but it didn't really have any novelty to me. It could have been Tulum or Thailand or Sri Lanka or Crete or any number of places I've already been.
But then, we spent 4 days on a scuba diving liveaboard boat in Komodo National Park. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life. It brought back all the joy and beauty of traveling and seeing the world with fresh eyes. It's already a memory that I'll cherish for the rest of my life. When I think about why it was so memorable, it seems like it was because it's just a thing that can't be replicated anywhere else in the world. Like eating the world's most delicious $1 bowl of noodles on a little plastic stool in a little town in the Mekong Delta. Or sailing a Hobie Cat solo around the North Sound of Virgin Gorda. Or rock climbing in Smith Rock, Oregon, or wine tasting in Franschhoek, or waking up early and having the gardens of Versailles to myself, or seeing lion cubs in Masai Mara.
Again, this sounds like bragging. I've been spoiled in two meanings of the word; the world has indulged me with beauty beyond anything I deserve, and my future enjoyment of travel has been somewhat blunted by my wealth of experiences. So it was with some trepidation that I just booked insanely cheap award flights to New Zealand (thanks delta). It was too good of a deal to pass up. But as I start to look into the "highlights" tour of New Zealand, I can't help but feel a sense of deja vu and ennui (pardon my French).
So what's the solution? Vow to staycation until I build up the urge to travel again? Maybe, but life is short, and family and career may limit my travel options in the very near future. Not to mention unexpected obstacles like pandemics, climate catastrophes, political upheaval, and my own health and fitness. Instead, I think I will try to chase that one thing, that irreplicatable experience that defines a certain point on the globe, and seek that out in every new place I go. Let's see if that approach works.
My question for you all is, how have you gotten over travel fatigue? That sense of dejennui? (Okay, I will work on my portmanteaus.) Has the focus of your travels changed with experience? And, selfishly, and specific recommendations for quintessential New Zealand adventures that can't be found anywhere else in the world?
TL;DR: I guess this is just another post about travel boredom and I'm looking for New Zealand recs.

Black Bear Sightings in Chapel Hill

Post Date:06/04/2023 11:05 AM
In the past two nights, Chapel Hill police officers have reported two bear sightings along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. One sighting, at the intersection with Blossom Lane, and the other, at Dixie Lane.
Black bears tend to be shy and non-aggressive toward humans, according to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. The state agency is sharing steps you can take to avoid problems with bears:
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says, if you see a bear, stay calm. They are usually wary of people – unless humans feed or provoke them. Never approach, surround, or corner a bear. If it changes its natural behavior because of your presence, you are too close. Back away slowly and once you are a safe distance away from the bear, make lots of noise to frighten the bear away.

2023.06.04 18:11 xhaox Natal Leo in North Node in 7th house confusion

I’m confused by my North Node in Leo in 7th house as it denotes a emphasis on partnership/romance. But I have other placements like Pluto in 11th house, Mars in 12th, Neptune & Uranus in Aquarius 1st house with a Capricorn ascendant, Moon & Mars that seem to directly contradict or stifle my north node.
Should I try to assimilate and connect to other people to achieve success in my careerelationships & find personal fulfillment when it goes against my innate solidarity nature? (I have Venus in 8th house which only confuses me more) I struggle within groups and to feel comfortable around people as they find me too eccentric/quirky in one way or another so it’s hard to fathom this placement as it connects to the rest of my chart. Am I to be the Leo archetype in relationships? I just don’t get it.
