Hi, outsider here.
I was reading on streetcars across America that were torn down and I came across this article from 2018 about Erie discussing a streetcar comeback in the downtown area. Whatever happened to the discussions from this? Will it ever come to fruition? I'm sure the price tag will be hefty, but wouldn't it be good for development? Erie's been losing people every single decade since the 60s. I think a streetcar can help lead to some resurgence of economic activity and help stunt that loss by bringing people in. Maybe even lead to growth in the downtown and surrounding area, if your downtown isn't that huge
I don't know lol. I'm a dumb outsider with no actual knowledge of Erie. I'm still interested to hear what Erie redditors think though.

It's July 1st, and you know what that means: time for the annual conference changes list! Thanks to Sir_Superman for letting me take over this year, and for helping fill in some things I missed.
Schools with football (including those adding or dropping it) are in bold. Note that I'm not including schools that have canceled football or other fall sports for 2020, since those presumably are temporary changes.

Division I

• Bellarmine moves up from Division II and joins the Atlantic Sun.
• Cal State Bakersfield leaves the WAC for the Big West.
• Connecticut leaves the AAC; football becomes FBS independent while other sports join the Big East.
• Dixie State moves up from Division II; football will be FCS independent, while other sports join the WAC.
• Jacksonville drops its FCS football program which competed in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League.
• NJIT leaves the Atlantic Sun for the America East.
• North Dakota football (FCS) joins the Missouri Valley Football Conference after two seasons as an independent playing a Big Sky schedule.
• Presbyterian football leaves the Big South and becomes an FCS independent for just one season before joining the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League in 2021; other sports remain in the Big South.
• Purdue Fort Wayne (formerly IPFW) leaves the Summit League for the Horizon League.
• Robert Morris leaves the NEC; football (FCS) becomes independent before joining the Big South in 2021; other sports join the Horizon League.
• Tarleton State moves up from Division II; football will be FCS independent, while other sports join the WAC.
• UC San Diego moves up from Division II and joins the Big West.
• UMKC (also known as Kansas City) leaves the WAC for the Summit League.

Seven schools are in the process of reclassifying to Division I. Their projected completion dates (after which they become eligible for the postseason) are as follows:

• Cal Baptist and North Alabama in 2022–23
• Merrimack in 2023–24
• Bellarmine, Dixie State, Tarleton State, and UC San Diego in 2024–25

Future changes: Bethune–Cookman and Florida A&M from MEAC to SWAC; North Carolina A&T from MEAC to Big South. St. Thomas (MN) is applying for a waiver to reclassify from Division III to Division I beginning in 2021; if this is accepted, UST will join the Summit League, but no football destination has been announced.

Division II

• Alderson Broaddus – leaves the GMAC for the Mountain East.
• Allen has applied to for Division II membership; it is unknown what Division II conference the school might join, though the SIAC (of which cross-street rival Benedict is a member) is the most logical destination. Allen is currently in the NAIA.
• Barton adds football, which will compete as an independent with a South Atlantic Conference scheduling alliance.
• Bellarmine leaves the GLVC and moves to Division I.
• Concordia (OR) closed at the end of the spring semester; the school had been in the Great Northwest.
• Dixie State leaves the RMAC and moves to Division I.
• D'Youville has applied for Division II membership; if accepted, the school will likely play a mostly Division III schedule this upcoming year before joining the East Coast Conference in 2021.
• Erskine adds football, which will compete as an independent.
• Florida Tech drops its football program which competed in the Gulf South Conference.
• Limestone leaves Conference Carolinas for the South Atlantic Conference; this move does not affect football, which already competes in the SAC.
• Minnesota–Crookston drops its football program which competed in the Northern Sun.
• Notre Dame de Namur drops athletics, which had been in the PacWest.
• Oakland City leaves Division II independence for the NAIA.
• St. Cloud State drops its football program which competed in the Northern Sun.

• Several members of the Middle Atlantic Conferences shift between the Commonwealth and Freedom conferences: Eastern from Freedom to Commonwealth, Arcadia and Lycoming from Commonwealth to Freedom. Lycoming football is unaffected since the MAC operates as a single conference in football.
• The ACAA and CAC merge completely under a new name (keeping the CAC's auto bid status). Finlandia, Pine Manor, Pratt, UC Santa Cruz, Mount Mary, and Mills (the latter two without men’s sports). The five existing CAC schools (Christopher Newport, Mary Washington, St. Mary's [MD], Salisbury, and Southern Virginia) will play a conference schedule in 2021–22, while the newcomers (Finlandia, Pine Manor, Pratt, UC Santa Cruz, Mount Mary, and Mills – the latter two without men’s sports) will be de facto independents as they have been in the ACAA; conference tournaments will have four spots for the CAC group and two for the ACAA group. No conference schedules will be played in later seasons.
• Name change: Sage (Empire 8 member) becomes Russell Sage. Previously "The Sage Colleges" consisted of Russell Sage College (a women's college in Troy, NY) and co-educational Sage College of Albany; as of this fall, the Troy campus will be co-ed as well, and both campuses will bear the name Russell Sage College.

Several schools are in the process of joining Division III. Beginning with this year's entrants, the provisional membership process lasts only three years instead of four. However, under the old system it has been common for schools to obtain a waiver to skip a year (usually the third year). Because of that, these projected completion dates are tentative:

• Brevard, Dean, and Pfeiffer this year
• SUNY Delhi in 2022–23
• MUW, Pratt, and St. Thomas (TX) in 2023–24
• Bob Jones and Warren Wilson also in 2023–24.

Manor is beginning an exploratory year and likely to enter provisional membership next year.
Future changes: Iowa Wesleyan from SLIAC (UMAC football) to NAIA (2021); Louisiana College from ASC to NAIA (2021); Macalester football from MWC to MIAC (2021); Mary Baldwin adding men’s sports (2021; USA South); Pine Manor is absorbed Boston College and drops sports (2021); St. Mary's (MD) from CAC to NEAC (2021); St. Norbert from MWC to NACC (2021); St. Scholastica from UMAC to MIAC (2021); St. Thomas (MN)from MIAC to likely Division I (2021); Southern Virginia from CAC (ODAC football) to USA South (2021).

NAIA

• Allen has applied to for NCAA Division II membership; the school currently competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with football independent.
• Bethel (TN) leaves the SSAC for the Mid-South; this move does not affect football, which already competes in the Mid-South's Bluegrass Division.
• Cincinnati Christian closed in January; competed in the River States Conference with football in the Mid-South Appalachian Division.
• Faulkner football moves from the Sun Division of the Mid-South Conference to the Appalachian Division.
• Florida Memorial adds football, which will compete in the Sun Division of the Mid-South Conference.
• Freed–Hardeman leaves the American Midwest for the Mid-South.
• Holy Family (WI) (formerly Silver Lake) will close in August; the school was an NAIA independent.
• Judson adds football, which will compete as a provisional MSFA member in 2020 before fully joining the MSFA Midwest League in 2021.
• Lewis–Clark State leaves the Frontier for the Cascade.
• Lincoln (IL), formerly independent, joins the CCAC.
• Lindenwood–Belleville no longer exists as an undergrad school; the school competed in the American Midwest, and dropped football before the 2019 season.
• Madonna adds football, which will compete as a provisional MSFA member in 2020 before fully joining the MSFA Mideast League in 2021.
• Martin Methodist leaves the SSAC for the Mid-South.
• Oakland City joins the River States Conference from Division II; as a returning NAIA member, no provisional period is required.
• Park (AZ) joins the Cal Pac; as a new NAIA member, the school must go through a one-year provisional period.
• Park (MO) leaves the American Midwest for the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
• Southern–New Orleans has suspended athletics; the school competed in the GCAC.
• Texas A&M San Antonio joins the RRAC; as a new NAIA member, the school must go through a one-year provisional period.
• UNT Dallas joins the Sooner Athletic Conference; as a new NAIA member, the school must go through a one-year provisional period.
• Westcliff joins the Cal Pac; as a new NAIA member, the school must go through a one-year provisional period.
• Robert Morris (IL) was acquired by fellow CCAC member Roosevelt; all sports sponsored by either school will be retained under the Roosevelt name. Thus what had been the Robert Morris football team will now be the Roosevelt football team (and will remain in the MSFA).
• St. Katherine (Cal Pac) completes its provisional year and becomes eligible for NAIA championships
• Name change: Northwest Christian (Cascade member) becomes Bushnell.
• The NAIA is doing away with its divisional structure in men’s and women’s basketball; each gender will have a single 64-team tournament. No other NAIA sport uses divisions.

Future changes: Columbia (SC) adds men’s sports (2021); Iowa Wesleyan joins from D3 (no conference affiliation announced); Johnson & Wales (FL) closes (2021; currently in Sun Conference); Louisiana College joins from D3 (will likely join SSAC with football in the Sooner); Mount Marty adds football (2022; GPAC).

Other notes

• One NJCAA school – Mercyhurst North East (PA) – is closing, while three others – Eastern Gateway (OH), Gillette (WY), and Sheridan (WY) – are discontinuing athletics.
• Nebraska Christian (NCCAA) closed.
• Trinity Bible (NCCAA) dropped football.
