2023.05.30 05:00 Hyval_the_Emolga Ship Weapons: My Thoughts

So I've been really enjoying the new patch's ship designs. However I think it's pretty clear that there's some that are just flat-out useless and some that are 100% better picks than others.

25mm Cannon: Discount Flak Cannon, workable but not great
75mm Cannon: Never used yet, looks fun but relatively uncommon
100mm Cannon: Workable
Baron Cannon: Better than 100mm on the Rusty but honestly not amazing
Howitzer: Good, if you can aim. Probably best weapon to use at long distance as of right now.
Flak Cannon: The GOAT of this patch. If you get into a dogfight with a Flak Cannon user you can basically kiss your butt goodbye unless you're really good with aim.
460mm Triple Turret: Bad. Muzzle velocity is almost as slow as the ships it's trying to shoot down.
Dual Rockets: Nearly useless, hit hard but good luck hitting with them.
Rocket Artillery: Great weapon, basically the 2nd best weapon to have on your ship behind Flak Cannons but with less range.
Any Torpedos: Most useless of all weapons, definitely needs some kind of rework otherwise you're basically unarmed against everyone except *maybe* the largest of targets.

Breacher Scout/Anything with a Flak Cannon seems to be king right now. In general I think muzzle velocity is the deciding factor in dogfights as it stands-- in general I feel like the torpedoes and the 460mm Triple Turret need the most love.
Personally I'd add some kind of weak tracking system to the Torps/Rockets (so they slightly follow the targets as they move) and increase the velocity of the cannon rounds for the Triple.
Alternatively, though this might be harder to implement, maybe have some kind of system akin to other dogfighting games where you can lock on to a target and it's automatically calculated for you where you need to aim to hit the target at its relative to you and your speed?

P.S. I beg you to please not just nerf the Flak Cannon and leave it at that, it's so much fun and that would just make dogfighting more of a chore than it is now :' ). I'd like to just see the other weapons be made more useful.

2023.05.30 03:35 Kinsey916 Record of Subreddit, chapter 2

Two men with a stretcher pick up Tojo as Diver walks limply to the exit. After a few hours of reconstruction on the stage, Apple introduces the next fighter. They snap their finger and point to the East entrance.

Apple: "In a modern world, there's a hidden martial art. What if someone brought them back to the modern-day world? Well, look no further. The dreaded Fūma Clan kept the Clan's secrets locked away until one man took them away. His reason? Because "they weren't using them." Standing at 6'0" and weighing 194lbs, welcome, u/Dolphinsarenotreal!"

A gust of wind comes from the East entrance, as a whirlwind comes from there. A spinning figure of air stops in the ring, revealing a man wearing a grey ninja-yoroi with no head cover, showing a well-kept face and greyish hair. His hands are in his pockets, and a red scarf is around this man's neck. He pulls out his hands and shows them off, showing a pair of metal gauntlets with sharp ends on the fingertips.

Apple points at the West entrance as he starts the following introduction.

Apple: "The blade has been around since the dawn of man. But only one martial art is mainly used for the public's eye. And that style is none other than Kendo! This next fighter has the Olympic title of "Kendo Master!" Winning one gold medal after another! Here he comes, standing at 6'2" and weighing 238lbs! Welcome, u/Ruisus!"

The spotlight shines on the entrance, but no one exits the gate. Apple tilts their head in confusion, but soon someone places their hand on Apple's shoulder, scaring them. Apple turns to see Ruisus.

Ruisus is wearing a casual Hawaiian shirt and tan cargo pants, and glasses rest on his face. But behind the man, a shinai case is holding his sword, resting on his back. Ruisus turns to Dolph and looks him up and down. With one motion, he pulls out his bamboo sword.

Ruisus: "I'll give you this one chance, surrender."

Dolph closes his eyes, putting two fingers in front of his face.

Dolph: "Sorry, but surrendering is not the way of the ninja."

Ruisus rolls his eyes as he points the shinai's tip at Dolph. Apple raises their hand and shouts. "BEGIN!" As Apple finishes that word, Dolph opens his eyes and rushes at Ruisus. After a few steps, he throws a kunai at the swordsman. The knife flies at Ruisus, but Ruisus dodges it without looking away. But when Ruisus moves in, he goes for a downward swing, aiming at the head.

Ruisus: "AHHHHH!"

The swing almost hits the top of Dolph's head, but while it looks like it hits, Dolph dodges it. The sword phases through him and taps the ground. From behind Ruisus, a voice says.

Dolph: "Fūma style: Vanishing Leaf."

Ruisus turns around, but when he does, an egg gets thrown at him. The egg hits him in the face, shattering. But he feels a stinging feeling in his eyes, for this was no ordinary egg, but a metsubushi! Dolph moves in at a fast pace. When he gets close, he jumps in the air and does a flip, sticking one of his legs out further than the other.

Dolph: "Fūma style: Cyclone Kick!"

Dolph's heel hits the top of Ruisus's head and sends him to the ground. Dolph lands on both feet and backs away. Before Apple can run over and count to ten, Ruisus gets back up. He picks up his sword and aims it at Dolph. When he opens his eyes, they're bloodshot and pink. Tears form in them.

Ruisus: "Ok, my turn."

He sprints at Dolph and goes for another downward swing to the head, screaming his lungs out. But when it gets in range, Dolph uses Vanishing Leaf again. But, Ruisus slams his foot to the ground and swings sideways. He turns his whole body with the swing. Soon, he hits Dolph in the side. The blow pushes Dolph to the ropes. Dolph looks surprised.

Dolph: "How... How did you hit me?"

Ruisus: "It's simple. Your technique requires you to pivot around the opponent before they can hit you. I felt you go left, so I swung left, hitting you before you could stop."

Dolph places his hand on his side, the blow hurting, for it has broken a rib.

Ruisus: "Welcome to the real world, kid. Your style died out for a reason!"

Dolph frowns, reaching for three kunai. He pulls them out and throws them at Ruisus. But in a swift swing, he hits them all down from the air. Dolph is holding a rope, gasping for air. Ruisus steps closer.

Ruisus: "Like I said, my turn."

Ruisus moves in closer to Dolph, raising his sword and swinging downward.

Ruisus: "Renewal Kendo Style: Triple Ippon!"

Before Dolph can react, he gets hit in the side again, then the head, then a jab to the throat. Dolph falls to the ground, gasping for air. But soon, he gets back to his feet.

Dolph: "I can't lose. I'll show you how hard I've worked to get here!"

Dolph sticks out a thumbs up and slams the thumb into his chest.

Dolph: "Fūma forbidden style: Awaken!"

A gust of wind comes from Dolph, but soon he vanishes. But suddenly, he appears behind Ruisus, kicking him in the back. The blow is so powerful it sends him sliding toward the ropes. Ruisus turns around to see Dolph approaching at a fast pace. He lowers his sword for a counterattack and rushes him. When he thinks Dolph is in range, he swings for a sideways strike, but it touches nothing. Suddenly, a sharp pain fills his side, for Dolph has used his gauntlets to slice into his side. He looks down to see blood dripping from his shirt.

Dolph goes in for another attack, but Ruisus is too slow to turn. He gets cut again as Dolph's fingers slice through his body. Ruinus closes his eyes and summons a black cloud of smoke.

Ruisus: "I didn't think I would have to resort to this tactic, but you left me with no other choice."

The cloud of smoke takes the form of Niccolo Machiavelli.

Ruisus: "I am the prince of this ring now. Fear me!"

Dolph goes in for another strike, but Ruisus predicts the attack and swings.

Ruisus: "Renewal Kenpo Style: Wrist breaker!"

In two consistent swings, he breaks Dolph's right wrist. Dolph stops running as the effects of Awaken wear off. He looks at the opponent swordsman, knowing he's running out of tricks. A cloud of smoke comes out of Dolph as he prepares his Gear.

Soon, the cloud takes the form of Johnny Appleseed. Appleseed sticks his hand up, spawning trees all over the arena. The six-by-six-meter ring is soon engulfed by trees, making it look like a small forest.

Inside the forest, Ruisus looks around, not having much space to move, as the trees block his way. He frowns.

Ruisus: "I can't use Machiavelli's speed here. Not enough room."

A few words come from the forest in the form of a whisper.

Dolph: "But there's enough room for me."

Suddenly, a red scarf shoots around a tree and wraps around Ruisus's neck, pinning him to the tree. Dolph stands on the tree, using all his weight to strangle Ruisus.

Dolph: "Welcome to the Forest of Death, Mr. Swordsman."

Ruisus struggles for a moment before letting out a scream. But after a few minutes, the trees start returning to the ground. Apple finds themselves back in the ring. But they notice that a limping Dolph is carrying an unconscious Ruisus. Two men with a stretcher carry Ruisus away as Apple declares Dolph the winner.

Dolph picks up Ruisus's sword and carries it to the knocked-out Ruisus. When he gets to the man, he says.

Dolph: "Go, be a ninja."

Back on the stage, Apple points to the jumbo screen.

Apple: "Next up is u/NothingWaste7654 versus u/PrimartTheGod!"

2023.05.30 02:47 Glittering-Ice-9261 Do you guys ever feel drained?

Hi, I have started calisthenics a few years ago suffering with undernutrition, desperation lead me to study nutrition them change my diet and rest 3 days between each work out (Full body). A few weeks later, I was proud to see my body changing: "Strong arms, legs, abs, core but weak back muscles."
The issue here is my fatigue, maybe stamina. - I sleep 6-8 hours per night - Eat enough of each macros, 1g+ of protein per kg. - Eat enough of each micro. - Drink water regularly, 2-3L/day - Stretch - Do some yoga and meditation - Weigh 54kg
Exercises: Asian squats - 3 series of 8-12 slow reps. Pull ups - 3 series of 8-12 slow reps. Dips - 3 series of 8-12 slow reps. Planche - 3 Series of 1 minute. Calfs - 3 series of 12 slow reps.
I do not understand why I, the healthiest person I know have less energy than my drunk uncles with triple my age. The last time I took a week off, it felt great.

2023.05.30 01:37 ValkyriaCaptain A Stepchild's perspective chapter 6

The rest of the story: https://archiveofourown.org/works/37135906/chapters/92648554
My apologies for the time it has taken to update the story. My changing job situation and the distractions of other games have made me write really slow.
BTW: Bismarck is in her original form here because this story was started way before the new version.

The Containment Chamber
It has been a week since I found out that Bismarck was my stepmom. Our relationship is still pretty awkward. We don’t hate each other but I feel it difficult to get a read on her feelings sometimes. Even though the oceans have been more peaceful than they have for a while, both her and Dad still have plenty of work to do. Dad has been doing better at reconnecting with me. He has had the three of us occasionally do activities together to get us talking more but results have been mixed.
I had also been trying to figure out how to get Baltimore to really notice me. I wasn’t going to impress her physically so I thought I would try to attract her with a poem. I wanted to write something that would show that I appreciated her looks and that I wanted to get to know her better without coming across as creepy.
One night Dad announced that the three of us would be heading to a conference in Berlin. We would be traveling onboard Bismarck’s own shipform. I was a little unsure about this. After all, I had briefly rode aboard Prinz Eugen for a day but this time I would be spending several days riding on the extension of someone who I still felt awkward about.
We arrived at the docks after breakfast. Tirpitz, Weser, Prinz Eugen, and a couple others I wasn’t familiar with were there as well. According to Dad, there was increased Siren movement in the area we were heading through so the extra protection was necessary. I thought about asking Weser some advice, since like Baltimore she was an athletic tomboy, but she was focused on attending to her planes. My father was calling me over to Bismarck’s hull so I didn’t really have a chance to talk to anyone.
The battleship was as intimidating as it was when I first saw it. As Dad led me through the halls, I felt something strange. It was a feeling like nothing I had ever experienced. It felt organic in a way I couldn’t quite describe. Dad must have sensed something off about me when we arrived at my room.
“People on their first trips on board shipgirl hulls always do feel a little off. You’ll get used to this and hardly notice when it happens frequently. Just remember that this thing is connected to a living mind.”
Father stopped by a door that marked with loud warning colors. “This is where we will go if fighting occurs and the situation forces her to convert her ship into rigging. The Sirens may not be as active now but they are still a threat. Oh, and here’s where you will be staying. Let’s hope for a peaceful voyage, eh?”
I tried not to think to hard about being in a potential fight as I entered the cabin. It was plain but comfortable as befitting a battleship cabin. Dad left to go on deck and I sat on the bed for a while thinking about how to show Baltimore my feelings. I heard a ship’s horn and felt the ship move. So then I decided to come on top deck. Father was off on one side gazing at the sea and Bismarck stood at the center of the bow, her eyes fixed forward. I thought I’d try not to disturb her but she spoke.
“I trust the cabin is to your liking?” “Yes thank you.”
“Good.” An awkward pause lingered between us. I tried to think of another subject to talk about and my gaze fell upon her cannons.
“Those aren’t your traditional cannons right? I heard that historically, your main cannons were double barreled but these are triples aren’t they?”
Bismarck turned and smiled. “That’s correct. These batteries are Prototype Triple 381mm Guns. During the war with the U.E., the Royal Navy gave them to me as both an upgrade and as a sign of forgiveness.”
“Do you get on well with them?”
“For the most part. There are still moments of tenseness but your father helps smooth things over well. By the way, have you been thinking more about Baltimore?”
I was a little taken aback that she would know what was on my mind so easily but I suppose it wasn’t to hard to guess, what with me watching Baltimore at her practices.
“I wanted to get her attention with a poem. But I’m not sure how to properly convey my feelings in a way that shows admiration with coming off as creepy.”
“Well, I read a lot of classic poems from my nation’s history. Perhaps when I have a break in my meetings we can talk about romance?” Bismarck gave me an awkward smile that was trying to be keen without seeming too keen. I was still unsure about how much I was willing to talk with her about feelings.
Suddenly, her face sharpened and she looked past me. “Sirens are in the area!” I heard the roar of planes as they were rapidly launched from Weser. Father appeared on deck barking orders into a radio to the other shipgirls. The massive turrets rotated a little to starboard and tilted upwards. I could hear the drone of unfamiliar aircraft, which could only be Siren jets. “Sean, get to the chamber now,” my dad yelled.
I ducked into the hallway of the battleship just as I was hearing the first sounds of gunfire. Thankfully there were emergency lights that guided my way to the chamber. The room itself consisted of a couple rows of chairs with over the shoulder seat belts. There was a screen that depicted the battle that was going on outside. I saw that Prinz Eugen and the other forward shipgirls were no longer riding atop their ships but were engaging the Siren mass production vessels in their rigging forms. They were making easy work of the mass production Siren ships. Then out of the smoke, I saw multiple strange humanoids walking across the water. They must be humanoid Sirens. Their rigging was larger and more alien looking than the shipgirls fighting on our side. As I stared, Dad ran into the chamber and sealed the door behind him. “The battle is getting really hot, so Bismarck is going to convert to her rigging form,” he said strapping himself in, “so get ready to feel really tight.”
Before I could ask, the walls of the chamber glowed blue. I suddenly felt my whole body being squeezed. Then the sensation was over as quickly as it had begun. I looked at the screen and noticed how everyone seemed bigger. We were at the same level as Eugen and the others. The room seemed to pitch and lurch as the view of the screen weaved from side to side. Dad seemed to notice my bewilderment.
“We’ve shrunk lad. Bismarck has converted her ship into rigging to become a fully actualized shipgirl, to draw on her fully power and to give her full maneuverability. This chamber is the only safe place passengers can go to when a shipgirl takes on this form.” He put his hand in an oval. “Right now we are about this high.”
Upon taking this in, I ask, “What happens if the hull gets breached in this part?”
Dad gave me a grim look. “No one has ever found out since shipgirls rarely take on passengers. And quite frankly, no one ever wants to find out.”
I nod and try to focus on the battle that is on the screen. The shipgirls in front were weaving side-to-side spraying rapid cannon fire to try and land a direct hit on the humanoid Siren. I felt a sudden sense of focus and then saw a massive salvo headed from our location. I also sensed something else, a surge of emotion that wasn’t mine. The feelings I felt were concern and worry. The concern part felt like I did when I wasn’t sure which move to make in a strategy game and was unsure if I was using my resources properly. And there was a feeling of protectiveness, like I had felt, once when I futilely tried to stand up for a classmate. But there was power here, surging towards those emotions.
These were Bismarck’s true feeling. Her pure feelings brought through her hull. The things she had tried to express to me with awkward statements were now coming clearer to me during the battle in which she held me in her hull.
A jolt brought me back to reality, as the Siren, although heavily damaged, had closed in on Bismarck. Claws emerged from the Sirens battered rigging to grapple at Bismarck’s rigging in one last, desperate attempt to stop Bismarck. The whole room shook violently as my stepmother fired her cannons at point blank range. The Siren’s body disintegrated in blinding fire. It was over. Bismarck barked orders to the rest of the fleet to resume formation. The room glowed blue again and this time I felt myself being stretched everywhere. Then everything was normal again.
“Well that was a bit exciting, wasn’t it?” Dad nonchalantly got up. “I will have to write a brief report about this. Why don’t you go up and see how she’s getting on?”
I walked up on deck. There was still the smell of gunpowder and fuel and the damage that the ship had taken in its rigging form had been transferred in the form of dents scrapes and burn marks everywhere. Bismarck herself stood among it all, her uniform slightly scuffed but otherwise unaffected. She immediately tensed up when she saw me.
“Are you alright? I didn’t anticipate that one would get that close. I’m sorry…”
“It’s alright. Dad wasn’t scared so I wasn’t scared that much either. It was kind of exciting actually. And I knew you were doing your best.” I replied.
Bismarck’s shoulders sagged with relief. She smiled calmly at me.
“You know I think I will take you up on your offer. Maybe if we can find some time…”
“I will gladly help you in courtship plans. Since your sixteenth birthday is in three weeks, perhaps we can devise a long term strategy that can get Baltimore going out with you around that time.”
I nodded. Then I hugged her. She stiffened a little in surprise and then hugged me back.

2023.05.30 01:15 Creepy-Corner6896 Working Cobra Concept (Movie Star)

Cobra a tower lost to time but what if it was given new life in btd6? How would you make a purely fighting tower whos main usage was taken by Ben a working tower. By modelling him off movies of course! When you do that you can even make a melee ranged hybrid tower! the following is my concept for a Cobra Rerelease, please let me know if you like it or what you would want to see changed.
New Tower (kind of) Cobra (melee/range mixed): Starts by Punching Balloons with brass knuckles popping thru blues. Support Tower $450
Top Path (melee) Boxing Legend (Rocky)
  1. Fisticufs ($260): Melee Punches now pop lead, ice balloons and deal one more
damage
  1. Boxing Gloves ($500): Melee Punches now pop a small group of balloons (5) and deals one more damage
  2. Shifty ($1200): Allows Cobra to teleport to anywhere on the map to melee
  3. Tag Team ($3000): Allows you to merge two Melee Cobras together making them deal double damage each but attack 30% Slower (can only be done once)
  4. World Champ ($12000) Cobra does double damage to Moabs and does 5 more damage and attacks 60% Faster
Middle Path (Eco) Ultimate Robber (Die Hard)
  1. Ski Mask ($300) Allows Cobra to see Camo +10% Attack Range
  2. Thiefvery ($550) Gains towers in radius sell value per round (1% of sell value) up to $100
  3. Vault Looting ($1200) Gains 2% of Bank’s in radius cash up to 5 banks and $500 per round
  4. Intel Tracker ($4500) On use gives towers in radius 50% more attack speed 50% more damage and Camo, Lead Detection, also doubles the limit of Valut Looting and triples the limit of Thiefvery to a max of 1K and 300 relatively
  5. Master Plan ($50000) Sends a Monkey Blimp that has 100 Hp and moves through the track acting as a fake end point for balloons (basically a wall of 100Hp) all normal balloons only deal 1Hp Moabs/Bfbs 2Hp Zomg 3Hp DDT 5Hp and BAD 100 Hp (only pops the blimps balloons are destroyed and you get money according to what they would have been worth) Takes 30s to get to end of track if multiple lanes sends smaller ones with split health equal to the lanes filled 90s to recharge
Bottom Path: Master Assassin (John Wick)
  1. Sidearm ($300) gives Cobra a ranged attack with the melee that does 1 Damage per shot but pierces 3 balloons
  2. Dual Wield ($500) Removes the Melee option for Cobra and instead gives it two shots that deal 3 damage per shot with 3 pierce
  3. Helping Hand ($750) Gives the Cobra a dog companion that sit on the track and bites the balloons causing them to be stunned for a very short time only attack really fast
  4. Shotgun ($3200) Gives the Cobra a Shotgun to replace one of the pistols giving a spread shot that deals 6 Damage to Balloons and 10 to Moabs while pushing both back when hit with the shotgun
  5. The Reaper ($60000) Gives the Cobra a Crazy Shotgun that kills Rainbows in one hit and Ceramics in two and will instantly pop a Moab or Bfb however it removes the dog and instead shoots extremely fast with a wide range every 10 shots it requires 5s to reload
Paragon Concept: The Unkillable ($320K) The Cobra now has a whole squad of Cobra Minions (5 minions) 2 Minions have a slightly reduced power Reaper Shotgun shot, one Minion has a Tophat and monocle generating 5K cash a round, 2 other Minions are Tag Team Monkeys with belts that say champ doing the same as two World Champs would and the main Cobra (the unkillable) would show you what Moabs would be on the next round and slow any balloon or moab on the screen by 30%
Some issues I could already see is that some paths are weaker and way to expensive but like I said its only a concept and if you have any way to fix these issues let me know!

2023.05.30 00:41 RiotMMO Riot Games' Project F - An Upcoming ARPG In Depth Introduction

Project F Early Development Gameplay
Source: TheRiotMMO
Project F is a research in-development game that will be produced by Riot Games, Inc. The upcoming ARPG is expected to be a PvE action RPG. In other words, a player vs environment action roleplaying game. It appears to be a cooperative action game based in Runeterra, where players can team up against monsters using champions from League of Legends. Project F is isometric, stylized and casual. It seems Project F has been in development for some time. If you’re looking forward to playing it soon and learning more, then read on.

Riot Project F Announced

Interestingly, Project F was never officially announced. We had our first glimpse of Project F during League of Legends’ 10-Year Anniversary Celebration live stream.
10-Year Anniversary Celebration Riot Pls: 10th Anniversary Edition - League of Legends
Beginning at the 32-minute 38-second mark there were a few sequences of Project F gameplay. Granted, it was early development footage of Riot’s Project F. It is important to note, Riot Games intentionally previewed Project F. Project F was not a leak. In fact, Project F has been under wraps for the most part since that very day.

What is Riot Project F?

Project F is an upcoming ARPG set in the world of League of Legends. Actually, set in Runeterra to be more precise. It is a cooperative action game where players control the champions from League of Legends. You will traverse through Runeterra and defeat enemies along your way. Players will get to use iconic and familiar champion abilities that have been established through League of Legends gameplay as well as new abilities too.

Project F Landscape

There will be varying levels of inclination throughout your adventures. Given Project F is an isometric game, the sense of height and depth will be an important design element if Riot wants to make this game a successful as possible. So, throughout your adventures you will have to descend higher terrain on occasion.
You can expect to see familiar landscapes that share a similar art style as League of Legends’. As with many isometric games, such as Lost Ark, Diablo, Path of Exile, etc., the background will contain interesting landscapes while the foreground will feature rich and detailed visuals.
Overall, it appears the art design will showoff bright and beautiful colors. Expect to see the following decorative elements; colorful trees, plants, flowers, roots, large stones plus a variety of terrains. While we aren’t sure yet, it appears players cannot fall off the map.
One feature we find to be a nice touch is the dust from the ground that rises as players jump from heights.

Project F Game FeaturesPing System

It looks as though Project F might feature a ping system. Presumably players can ping locations on the field. Once a location is pinged, a red floating inverted cone will remain at the desired location for a time. Coordinated players can use pings to set focus areas, destinations, and other communicative commands. It could also be that Blitzcrank’s melee abilities inadvertently marks the ground for some unknown reason. Again, we saw early development footage. We expect most of the features to not be fully implemented.

Jumping Over Ledges

Another feature that Project F appears to include is jumping over ledges when traversing through corners of map without terrain. For example, when Ezreal walks forward, there is no terrain under him just a few steps ahead. Just before the ledge, Ezreal leaps over the cliff edge and lands on the other side. It’s unclear whether this will be a player command or our characters will jump over edges by themselves.

Cast Indicators

Taliyah
Project F takes a feature from it’s inspiration League of Legends. Ranged characters will have casting with indicators. It’s not known if the indicators can be turned off or not. Casting indicators are a useful feature. The indicator serves as a projection guide. Players can line up the indicator with their target for improved accuracy.

Friendly Fire

Friendly fire was a feature in the early development build. When a player is in a casting state, it means they are about to use an ability. At this point a cast indicator is visible. Likely only visible to the player casting, if it’s anything like the League of Legends feature. Now, when the player’s indicator intersects with a cooperative teammate, the color of the indicator turns red.
While the friendly fire colored cast indicator is insightful, it brings up more questions than answers. First, maybe it’s possible there are various difficulties in which you can damage your teammates. Second, allies could very well block teammates skill shots, hence the red indicator. Another possibility is while hovered over an ally, you cannot cast your skill shot. All of this is speculative of course. We will provide updates as they come.

Equal Base Movement Speed

From looking at the Project F short clip, we can see each player has the same base move speed. Keep in mind, equal base movement speed may not be the case at launch. Furthermore, it’s possible gear can be equipped and stats or talents can be acquired that affect the champions movement speed. Nonetheless, an equal base movement speed does reinforce the casual nature of Project F.

Project F Early Development Gameplay

Possible Game Features

Boss Fights

We may see boss fights. In the image below, a Project F developer is seen with a reference image on his second monitor. Part of the image showed Wild Rift assets of Varus and Ashe fighting a massive image of the League of Legends item Static Shiv.

Boss Mechanics – Slow Effect

https://preview.redd.it/x1fpwcje3w2b1.jpg?width=864&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cafe07ef5f0e7952af3c7cb515481cdb6947dbe
In that same screenshot, the giant Static Shiv appear to emanate a yellow aura outwards up to under the attacking champions’ feet. The yellow aura looks incredibly similar to the slow effect from League of Legends.

Vayne

Checkpoints

On the same map where we have Blitzcrank, Lux, and Ezreal fighting, all three champions can be seen fooling around a campfire. There are no enemies present. Furthermore, they appear to be at a dead end with only one direction to go….into the forest. In the meantime, the players are running around and using abilities around this empty campfire area. Perhaps this starting area can serve as a communication hub amongst teammates before they begin their quest or journey. Alternatively, these checkpoints could be scattered throughout zones in order to let players rest, change armor, tools, loadouts, or reestablish their strategy.

Champions in Riot’s Project F

We know of at least three playable champions in Project F. The following champions include, Blitzcrank, Lux, and Ezreal. Below includes a brief overview of the mentioned champions for those unfamiliar with the League of Legends champion roster.
--

Blitzcrank

Blitzcrank is a support-style tank. In the world of Runeterra, he a a mechanical golem dedicated to protecting Zaun from harm and supporting its citizens.
In League of Legends, he uses powerful lightning infused mechanical forces to subdue, retract, and stun foes for his allies. Meanwhile, he soaks up and blocks damage effectively for his teammates.

Lux

Lux is a support-style mage. In Runeterra, Lux is an aristocrat from Demacia with the ability to manipulate light. Unfortunately, Demacia prejudice against mages.

Possible Champions in Riot Project F

During the League of Legends 10-Year Anniversary stream, a developer had a reference page on his second monitor. It appeared to be two League of Legends champions outside of the traditional League game environment. In fact, is looked like a rudimentary Project F environment based on the ground particles seen in the anniversary video. Although, the screenshot of Varus and Ashe were assets from Wild Rift along with Wild Rift user interface. In the frame, you could see Varus and Ashe attacking a large massive image of the League item Static Shiv. Presumably the image of static shiv was a placeholder image for a boss.
Moreover, there was a clip in the video where Lulu was being designed for Project F in Unreal Engine. This Lulu was distinguished from the Lulu in League of Legends. Therefore, it’s safe to conclude, Lulu was at the least being designed in the early development stage.
Therefore, it is possible Varus and Ashe could be in Project F.

Possible Champion: Lulu

In-development Lulu
Lulu is a yordle from Bandle City. Specifically she is fae sorceress. While wandering in Runeterra she befriended a fairy named Pix. We she delighter to find many of her newfound abilities remained while back in Bandle City.
During gameplay, Lulu is a ranged support champion. He has a lot of crowd control and can provide her allies with buffs such as shields, increased health and movement speed.

Possible Champion: Ashe

Ashe is an Iceborn Warmother. She is from an inhospitable norther region called the Freljord. She leads the Avarosans, which is one of the three major tribes of the Freljord.
In League of Legends, is a ranged damage dealer, known as an ADC (attack damage carry). Ashe also features support features in her kit, such as slows, and revealing fog of war for the team.

Possible Champion: Varus

Varus used to be a magically ascended hunter from Shurima ages ago. After the loss of their king, his kind had succumb to insanity and blood magic, becoming Darkin and wreaking havoc on Runeterra. The Darkin were imprisoned in their weapons by the Aspects. Accordingly, Varus in his bow. Two Ionian men relinquished Varus. Now Varus consists of a Darkin and two men who resist his every more.
Varus is an ADC, with a mix of attack and magical damage.

Classes in Project F

Several League of Legends champions will be designed in Project F. We also know Project F is an action roleplaying game with a cooperative option. With the brief gameplay in mind, each champion will be unique. As a result, Project F could implement at the very least a basic class system. This is an role-playing game after all.
For example, Blitzcrank make possess tankier stats such as increased health, resistances, and mitigative abilities.
Next, there could be support classes and mage support classes. If League of Legends is to be reimagined, Lux would fall into the mage-support class type. Also, Lulu would belong to the support-mage class type.
Another class would be ranged damage dealers. Naturally, Ezreal and Varus would belong to this category.
We’ve yet to see a brawler, or physical fighting class type. Would would an Action RPG be without one. It would be interesting to see champions such as Darius, Garen, Tryndamere, Olaf and others of the like fit this role.
It’s possible Assassins could be a class in Project F. We have a ton of them in League already. Assassins champions that come to mind include, Nocturne, Evelyn, Talon, and Fizz.

Who is Working on Project F?

We currently know of one Riot employees working on Project F.

Kate Chironis

We believe Kate Chironis is the design director for Riot Games’ Project F, the upcoming ARPG. If so, then she started the early development of Project F when there were only three designers. Here’s what Kate had to say.
I helped bootstrap a new game as one of three early designers on the project. I focused on core game loop, player systems, the fundamental building blocks of enemies/encounters/AI, and helping establish the initial vision for several different types of content in the game. I prototyped heavily during this time period to “find the fun” in UE4/Blueprint.Kate - LinkedIn
It’s likely the quote from Kate refers to Project F because in the League Anniversary from October 2019, we can see Kate working on Project F.

Riot Project F Release Date

We’re not sure when Riot Project F will release. Even Kate Chironis, a likely Project F employee said she’s unsure of the release date.

https://preview.redd.it/pxtelmtl3w2b1.jpg?width=534&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8055a3c3d8b2262877adeaee9df9abc87f1b8b5
I am optimistic that players will get to see it, but I don’t know when.
Kate Chironis – Twitter

Nonetheless, we can speculate the game have a trailer, gameplay or other public media in late 2024. Remember, Project F likely began around pre-development in May 2022. This is based on Kate’s start date at Riot Games from her LinkedIn experience. In the experience description she describes work that lines up with Project F. Furthermore, 17 months later, Riot showed an early development of Project F where Kate was actively iterating.

Summary

Let’s summarize what we know about Riot Project F, the in-development ARPG. Project F appears to be non-canon. We saw three unrelated champions fighting alongside each other. Specifically, Ezreal, Blitzcrank, and Lux generally do not interact in canon lore. Ezreal is from Piltover, explores Shurima. Lux is from Demacia, and Blitzcrank is bound to Zaun as far as we know. To have all three of them fighting alongside a common enemy defies canon lore.
Also, Project F looks to be a casual friendly game. We believe it would make a great party/couch game. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this game became available for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. Project F does not appear to be graphically intensive. It comes off as a nice coop couch game you’d play on the weekends with friends.
Project F will be created in Unreal Engine. We’re unsure whether it’s Unreal Engine 5 or 4. We can expect to play as several champions such as, Blitzcrank, Lux, Ezreal, Lulu and likely more.
Stay tuned for more updates on Riot’s upcoming Project F.

Riot Games' Project F - An Upcoming ARPG In Depth Introduction

We may see boss fights. In the image below, a Project F developer is seen with a reference image on his second monitor. Part of the image showed Wild Rift assets of Varus and Ashe fighting a massive image of the League of Legends item Static Shiv.

In that same screenshot, the giant Static Shiv appear to emanate a yellow aura outwards up to under the attacking champions’ feet. The yellow aura looks incredibly similar to the slow effect from League of Legends.

I prototyped heavily during this time period to “find the fun” in UE4/Blueprint.
Kate - LinkedIn
It’s likely the quote from Kate refers to Project F because in the League Anniversary from October 2019, we can see Kate working on Project F.

Riot Project F Release Date

We’re not sure when Riot Project F will release. Even Kate Chironis, a likely Project F employee said she’s unsure of the release date.

2023.05.30 00:08 FutureRealms My Recipe that Helps my Cjronic Gastritis

So I have had serious issues with this chronic gastritis for almost a year now. I am on carafate 4x a day (not helping) and have issues eating normal food. This is what I’ve been eating everyday and it seems to help a little.
I buy a whole chicken on sale and put it in the slow cooker for 3 hours on high. After it’s cooked I de bone all the meat and put meat in the fridge. Then I fill up the slow cooker with 64 ounces of chicken broth (from the store) and put the bones back in the broth on low for 12 hours. I also add a cut up piece of ginger root about a handful size (supposed to help with gastritis and gut inflammation) then I add chopped up carrots, celery, tumeric (good for inflammation), red bell pepper, black pepper, dill, parsley (both supposedly help with gastritis) and two chicken bullion cubes. After 12 hours I strain out the bones and add the chicken back to the broth. I know I know it sounds just like regular soup but…..my thoughts are that cooking the bones longer to release collagen will help soothe stomach and the addition of ginger root, tumeric, dill and parsley helps the stomach a lot so it’s my variation on chicken soup for gastritis. It hasn’t fixed my problem at all but I just started and it seems to help. I don’t add noodle since they seem to bother my stomach. Anyways just figured I’d share for those having issues finding foods that they can eat. Seems to be helping me a little.

2023.05.29 22:50 London-Roma-1980 NON CONFERENCE MATCHDAY 10 RESULTS

Strap in, everyone, because we have a long road ahead of us. In addition to the NINE games between Top 25 teams, FOUR upsets happened. That's right, the Top 25 was below .500 in its entirety today. So let's see how they did it.
*****
#1 UCLA 90, #9 Syracuse 79. The key to beating a 2-3 zone is to shoot over it. Fortunately for the Bruins, they can.
Reggie Miller had 25 points and led an onslaught that included 13 three-pointers as the Bruins (10-0) took out the Orange (8-2) to maintain their winning streak, now at 47 games and counting.
"The shots were falling tonight," Miller said after the game. "We got what we wanted in terms of looks, and we got them to go in."
In addition to Miller's 5 three-pointers, Russell Westbrook had 3, Kiki Vandeweghe had 2, and Gail Goodrich, Kevin Love, and Jrue Holiday each had one. Syracuse, for their part, shot well, with Carmelo Anthony hitting six threes on his own to get to 22 total points, but it wasn't enough.
"They're #1 for a reason," Orange coach Jim Boeheim said.
#8 Michigan 68, #4 Duke 61. The Power Five have been cracked.
Michigan's defense held Duke to 29% shooting and Juwan Howard led the way with 16 points as the Wolverines (9-1) stunned the Blue Devils (8-2) before a court-storming crowd at Michigan Court.
"This is why you play the game," Howard said amidst a crowd of fans. "We shook up the world tonight. We wanted this one. You beat Duke, you've done good!"
Grant Hill led the Devils with 13 points, but the entire team struggled.
"We were cold tonight," Hill said. "Props to Michigan; their defense smothered us. Not much you can do."
#3 Kentucky 67, #2 North Carolina 64. Who do you call on when you have everyone? Someone's bound to be open, and such was the case here.
Louie Dampier found Devin Booker in the corner as time expired, and the Wildcats (9-1) stunned the Tar Heels (8-2) to send them to their second last-second defeat of the non-conference season.
"We ran a pick and roll off the ball to get [Michael] Jordan off of me and get me open," Booker said, recounting the final play. "Louie knew where I was, he got the pass off after driving for the double... everything just fell into place."
Both teams turned up the defense in this one. Dan Issel led Kentucky with 15 points, while Jordan led North Carolina with 13. Outside shooting was particularly hard to go by, as Booker's winner was only the fifth three-pointer of the game combined.
"We did almost everything right," Tar Heels coach Dean Smith said after the game. "Almost."
#5 Kansas 75, #14 Arizona 59. The top teams have shown anyone can step up at any time. Kansas proved it tonight.
Kirk Hinrich caught fire, getting 20 points with five three-pointers, as the Jayhawks (9-1) knocked off the Wildcats (7-3) to produce a potential future matchup with Kentucky.
"We've been seeing how other teams have done," Hinrich said. "It's important we keep winning. We want that last one seed when the dust settles."
Mike Bibby had 15 points, but also committed 8 turnovers as JoJo White's defense proved to be too much for him.
"I had a bad day," Bibby admitted. "This loss is on me."
Arkansas 90, #23 Iowa 83. Are they going to be ranked now? It's not certain what else has to be done.
Joe Johnson went off for 24 points and the full-court pressure held Fred Brown to 5 points as the Razorbacks (8-2) pulled off their second straight top-25 upset, this time knocking off the Hawkeyes (7-3).
"We're just going to keep playing the way we're capable of and we'll be in good shape," Johnson said. "We got off to a slow start, but now we're showing the world what we're capable of."
Don Nelson led the Hawkeyes with 18 points.
#12 Connecticut 92, #21 Alabama 80. A quick rise to the top by the Tide made people wonder if the SEC would have a wild race. Now, it looks like this Tide is receding.
Andre Drummond had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies (8-2) to a big road win over the Tide (7-3) that may solidify them as favorites in the Big East.
"We had an advantage inside, and we knew we could use it," Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said after the game. "We needed this win, you know? A chance to show the Big East still goes through us."
Alabama attempted to turn up the pace against the big men of Connecticut, but Kemba Walker and Ray Allen were able to break the press on offense. On defense, super sub Richard Hamilton helped slow down the opposition, getting 4 steals in the second half.
Latrell Sprewell led the Tide with 18 points.
#9 Notre Dame 67, #17 DePaul 65, OT. Most of the game was a battle inside. But it was outside shooting from a very unlikely source that won the game.
John Paxson hit two three-pointers late in overtime to lead the Fighting Irish (8-2) to an overtime victory over the Blue Demons (7-3).
"All of our players can contribute," coach Digger Phelps told reporters after the game. "We hear a lot about Adrian Dantley and Bill Laimbeer, but we're a team of stars. We feel we can beat anyone."
With the game tied at 58 nearing the end of regulation, George Mikan looked to have won the game with a hook shot. However, before he could shoot, he was whistled for a three-second violation. Paxson's heroics in overtime then meant the difference.
"I lost track of time," a dejected Mikan said in the locker room. "I'm sorry, Blue Demon fans."
#25 Illinois 66, #19 Georgetown 56. Illinois coach Lou Henson wanted to focus on defense as much as offense. It's safe to say his team was ready to respond.
A focused effort held Allen Iverson scoreless on the day as the Illini (8-2) stunned the Hoyas (7-3) in a defensive struggle with neither team able to get open shots most of the day.
"That's what I was hoping for," Henson said after the game. "We wanted to get our defensive strength before we faced teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota... I think today we showed we can win ugly as well as win beautifully."
Derek Harper, who led all scorers with 17 points, was the primary responsibility, but Iverson found himself constantly double-teamed with Donnie Freeman and Deron Williams. While Iverson did wind up with 9 assists, the shutout clearly bothered him, as he picked up a late technical foul arguing a no-call.
"We need to work on getting Allen involved more," Hoyas coach John Thompson admitted. "You can't just win inside in this game."
Cincinnati 81, #18 LSU 60. Maybe the adjustment from the AAC to the Big XII will be easier than we were led to believe.
Oscar Robertson had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Jack Twyman had 21 points as the Bearcats (8-2) stunned everyone by trouncing the Tigers (7-3) in front of the Cats' home fans.
"That was an incredible win," Bearcats coach Ed Jucker said after the game. "They kept talking about their starting five, but today we showed you need a lot of depth to get anywhere. We got that depth and we got a chance to win it all. I hope Kansas is paying attention -- they're not sweeping us this season."
Defense also proved to be a big deal. Robertson and Nick Van Exel constantly switched off on Pete Maravich, holding the scoring machine to only 8 points on the day. Bob Pettit was able to take some advantage to score 17 points, but the Tigers had no help from the bench, as the Cats' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves 21-3.
"Gotta be more than the first five," center Shaquille O'Neal said after the game. "We can only do so much and if one of us is in trouble, we gotta get stepping up."
#15 Southern Cal 78, #16 Maryland 55. Don't sleep on the Trojans now. When they're going against teams in the second and third tier, they are deadly.
Bill Sharman led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans (8-2) steamrolled the Terrapins (7-3) to make a statement about their goals for this season.
"We think we can steal a Final Four spot," coach Sam Barry said after the game. "Today proved we have the talent to do it. If the shots fall, we can beat anyone."
Gene Shue led the Terrapins with 13 points.
#6 Michigan State 61, #13 Texas 60. The Longhorns seem to be willing to live and die by Kevin Durant. The Spartans knew it when it mattered.
Draymond Green knocked away a pass intended for Durant on the final play of the game to preserve a victory for the Spartans (8-2) over the Longhorns (7-3) on the road in a critical matchup.
"We saw where they were going, we knew they had one big star and if we denied him, we didn't think anyone else could step up," Green said after the game. "I know how to beat Durant, we know how to win the game, and we're just that good."
Magic Johnson had 14 points and 7 assists to lead the Spartans. Durant, for his part, led all scorers with 21 points, but couldn't get the last two, as Avery Bradley's inbound was knocked away.
"Close isn't good enough in crunch time," Durant said to reporters.
NC State 74, #20 Minnesota 65. Last year, the Wolfpack were controversially sent to the NIT despite going 18-14 in the toughest schedule in the country. If they keep winning, they may take it out of the committee's hands when all is said and done.
JJ Hickson had 5 blocks of Kevin McHale on the day and David Thompson scored 20 as the Wolfpack (8-2) stunned the Golden Gophers (7-3) to pick up a road win.
"We deserve to be ranked, and we deserve to be in the [NIBL] tournament," Thompson said after the game. "We've said all year our goal is to be undeniable. If we qualify for selection, we're going to make sure they have to take us. That means winning a lot in non-con, and that's what we're doing."
With Thompson driving and causing collapses of the defense, the outside shooters also had their chances. Spud Webb and Tom Gugliotta hit three three-pointers each over the Gopher defense.
"This was a bad day," said McHale, who despite being blocked led the Gophers with 14 points.
Villanova 79, #24 UNLV 78. Villanova likes to play slower, while UNLV likes to speed it up. Villanova, it turned out, did just enough to keep the Rebels from getting the win.
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kyle Lowry blocked Ricky Sobers' last second putback attempt as the Wildcats (8-2) held off the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) to most likely knock the last mid-major out of the Top 25.
"Our backcourt carried this one," Villanova coach Jay Wright said after the game. "We wanted to show that Paul [Arizin] had backup, and that's what we were able to get. Everyone played their role, and we kept this team -- a very good offensive team -- to just enough to take the win.
On the final play, Sobers inbounded to leading scorer Shawn Marion (18 points). His three pointer was off the mark, and in the scramble, Sobers got the loose ball. He tried a quick shot to beat the horn, but Lowry was ready.

2023.05.29 19:47 ALMA94_ Todays Round

Todays Round
I go into 18 today 3 over about to break my PB. My buddy sees me take out driver and suggests I go with 5iron as I’m on my way to a PB. I ignore it and try to baby a driver down the middle. End up pulling it OB and finish the hole with a triple. It’s crazy because minus the 4 par 3s on the course I hit about 9 of the 14 fairways today. Driver was on fire, I got in my own head. Overall was a good day tho, as we started the grounds keepers where cutting and rolling the greens so the first couple holes played super fast while the rest where pretty sticky/slow rolling greens. Took a bit of adjustment but it’s a great feeling to consistently shoot in the 70s.

2023.05.29 09:50 Lord_VivecHimself They REALLY should give vanilla players a taste (a couple days trial maybe) of DLC civs

I am aware nobody is going to read this so TL;DR enable vanilla players to test out those "new" civs so they can see for themselves that they are not as OP as they seem to be, might learn a things or two they could use to beat them, plus you definitely might sell them more which is nice too.
DLC civs are very well done and designed. Old players complain about them all the time, to the point of outright stop playing the game at all, but I (ports main) WISH that legacy civs were designed as good as the new DLC civs are. No, reworking of old civs aren't doing much, except for France Germany and Spain, all other reworked civs stick to their own original design which was lacking FLEXIBILITY to begin with; they just can't adapt to situations that unfold during a match. Some outright got worse after the rework, like Natives.
In fact what makes DLC civs so powerful is not chonky or spammable units who can be botted to victory even by low levels, undedicated casuals; it's not that they have basic and very easy to exploit eco bonuses, like it could be brits manor or, well, a free TC every age up? Buffy vills that collect faster? Even buffier vills which collect like there were 3 of them???
Those DLC have none of that, I can tell you... There are so many resources to balance, timings to get right, decisions to make that could very well go entirely wrong and lose you the game.
Undedicated/casual players just take those dlc civs, bot some build order found online, and lose very bad against me, just a decent player but untalented and with a lot of flaws; I mean things like triple the unit killed or resource gathered, getting stuck in age 2 while I fly in 4th, doing fast industrial and getting beaten by me still in 2nd...; the way I see it this is proof enough they are just NOT OP as they seem to be.
Thise civs are strong because they're flexible and can adapt to a variety of situations, but I can't see how this can be considered a bad design at all... Of course it feels unfair when you play against them with a "normal" civ who is more rigid, but it's the old civ's problem... If you can pull off to find a way out of a sticky situation, you should be empowered to do so, not just "die" because your civ is not good enough for that. If your opponent is turtling heavy and you can't just outboom him, if he's rushing and you are forced to defend because your civ is too slow to just rush on its own (I feel like that with ports but also italians when going greedy, but may be just me) then it's a tight spot you found yourself into and that's not good design, that's disempowering.
Vanilla players are just overall ignorant (not an insult, bear with me) of new civs, as it is obvious for them to be; I still remember how baffled I was by either Warchiefs and then by Asian Dynasties civs other players took, when I played the game back in legacy. But even by basic civs that nobody takes, like germans or even ports themselves.
So why not have them see what's this is all about? By trying the civs themselves they might find out things like that lombards are not really like Dutch banks, making resources out of nothing, they are more better markets (to exchange resources that is) that you can also input some almost-double-sized "investment cards" into. But it still takes time (a LOT if you use the architect, which btw is slow as hell and I just hate it) and/or resources uf you decide to speed it up. If you make just one lombard, resources are going to be trickled so slow you won't survive the rush phase. But that is just an example.
I myself used to think Ethiopia is like super OP. They are pretty strong yeah, but their early game is so ass (on par with Lakota, I would say, and much much worse than Italians which I thought were the absolute worst ever seen...) that pulling off a good age 2 is a feat. They say Trinity is OP, sure you get an abun that's worth more than a vill but good luck actually having the 150 wood to build the Mountain Monastery and actually put the age 1 abun to work. What you say, sell a cattle? ANOTHER one, after the first I sold for just 150 to make a house and hunting dogs?? It could be worth up to 400w later, which could REALLY help for a rush (or whatever really, even a water boom) so it's a rough trade-off isn't it? And that pushes you towards 10/10, which is an ass age-up for all civs but for Ethiopia it's a special kind of ass. Eventually if you get properly rushed by Ethiopia, the dude just deserved for that to work at all.
I used to think shotel warriors were like unbeatable and could take over everything. Then in a recent match a dude spammed hussars and I understood why they are called "shitel warriors".
And what about US? Everyone just felt those gatling spams are unbeatable, then decent players tried culvs (but even falcs as they just outrange gatlings, and btw orguns are easily scarier than gats and can beat them). Literally it's just all down to game knowledge. I STILL THINK that mexican revolt in "age 2" (they claim it to be age 3) is bullshit, but I can't nearly be sure of it up until I try it myself.
Everybody should get to know how these civs works approximately, if anything to be able to counter them. I guess a free trial could do the trick, if you are a fast learner.

2023.05.29 08:14 Electrical_Sundae332 Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala

Recipe is from Table for Two: https://www.tablefortwoblog.com/chicken-tikka-masala-crockpot/
The addition of heavy cream and cornstarch gave it a delicious, velvety texture. I am assuming you could substitute full fat coconut milk if heavy cream isn't your jam.

2023.05.29 07:47 Dear_Philosophy9752 I love Mario Kart 8, but the item balance is terrible

I play this game a ton, but sometimes I wish the item balance wasn't so bad. My complaints boil down to four issues:

1. Too many items in general

This one is pretty self explanatory. The item boxes are just too close together, and double items make the problem even worse. It feels like there isn't a single moment to just focus on driving. Races are largely won by utilizing items, not by using exceptional driving technique.

2. Midfield items are too chaotic.

Almost all the new items in this game, plus several old ones, accomplish nothing but slowing down everyone around you while providing little or no speed boost for the person who used it. The end result is that the one or two people at the front make a getaway and everyone else gets stuck in the midfield. Some of the worst offenders are:
Compare these to the midfield items that give you a speed boost (mushroom(s), star, piranha plant [negligible speed boost]), and it's easy to see why first place has such a big lead in so many races. I also think there should be more emphasis on defensive items. While many items, such as bananas, shells, sound horn, and piranha plant, serve a defensive purpose, they still screw over everyone around you as described above. I would like to see defensive items that actually allow you to escape the midfield chaos without contributing to it.

3. Incentive to throw items backwards

There are too many incentives to throw items backwards, meaning that people in the midfield and back just get slowed down while the leaders make a runaway

4. Sandbagging

Given how terrible racing in the midfield is, there is tremendous incentive for sandbagging. In many situations, it is better to intentionally slow down and hope for a bullet, golden, or shock dodge than to actually try to drive as fast as you can. This is anti-competitive and against the spirit of the game. In addition to the problems with driving in the midfield that I have already described, there are several other reasons why sandbagging is so powerful:
Bullet bills are too strong. Now, don't get me wrong. I have no issue with people in last who are very far behind getting bullet bills and using them to get back into the action. My problem is with people who use them as an actual strategy to win races. Here are a couple changes I would like to see in future games to reduce these issues.
Overpowered mushroom shortcuts. Again, don't get me wrong. I think the mushroom is a great item. But, certain tracks have ridiculously overpowered mushroom shortcuts that make sandbagging for a triple or golden mushroom a viable strategy. These include Dry Dry Desert, Snow Land, and Rock Rock Mountain. I would prefer if ultra shortcuts like these didn't exist and instead, mushrooms (and stars) gave slightly higher speed boosts to compensate.

Conclusion

I get that this is ultimately a family/party game and will always have an element of chance and rubberbanding, but I still think that Nintendo has gone too far with this iteration of the game. Compare the competitive scene of Mario Kart Wii, a game that came out more than 15 years ago, to MK8DX, and you can easily see that it's possible to make a Mario Kart game that is fun for all players while still adequately rewarding individual skill.
I would also argue that the item system of Mario Kart 8, while "fair" in the sense that anybody can win with enough luck, is not fun. The majority of racers are in the middle of the pack. Therefore, the average player will spend the majority of races in the midfield pack. And spending the entire race dodging a barrage of items is simply not fun. Sure, you get a little satisfaction from nailing someone with a red shell, but that's quickly offset by being hit by fire flowers, boomerangs, sound horns, etc. What would be more fun for everyone (while still maintaining fairness and letting players who are behind catch up) would be an item system that emphasizes speed items to actually allow people to catch up to the leader, instead of just forcing players to clobber each other.
