2023.06.02 23:14 ImpossiblePea4125 Watching my family treat my abuser like a loved one and me like a pariah is a heavy burden
I'm a male in my 40s. I've forgiven my alcoholic stepfather for beating the hell out of me and mildly molesting me -- he used to hold me in a bear hug on his lap and kiss my neck and get a boner and wouldn't let me go for a long period, maybe 10-20 minutes each time.
I never told my mother about the boner and necking thing, but to this day she still insists that he was "just a stern disciplinarian" in regards to him beating me up. Maybe she never saw him insidiously punching me only in the stomach to take my wind, kicking me only in the stomach or asshole or tailbone and buttcheeks to avoid causing visible marks of bruising while inflicting lasting pain. Maybe he hid it that well. I don't know. As a kid I thought she knew and supported it, I thought everyone knew, so that's like 50 layers of onion to go through.
Due to his sneakiness that fucker almost got away with it until my father finally grilled me for flinching and/or pissing myself whenever he yelled at me in anger (he didn't hit me, so my reaction was suspect). I still remember CPS and the cops walking my stepfather out of the house in cuffs and him turning his head towards me and saying, "how could you do this to me, boy?" Shit, I felt bad about that one for some crazy reason until my late 20s. What a mind fuck.
My stepmother was just as bad, locking me in a small closet where I could only stand for hours while my step siblings and cousins played, or giving me just a bowl of lettuce for dinner when I was crying from hunger while everyone else got regular food, saying I needed to lose my "fat butt" (pictures from my youth show an emaciated kid, so no I wasn't overweight). She's dead now and hopefully standing in a small closet in hell with a bowl of skunk lettuce and hunger pangs.
I did choose to forgive them all for my own sanity, but it ain't always easy. The forgiveness dries out sometimes and I have to add water.
At 12 years old I finally snapped. I became ultra violent to make everyone afraid to mess with me. At home, in the neighborhood, at school, anyone showed the slightest bit of aggression and before I knew what I was doing I'd be swinging some blunt weapon within reach at their head (a pipe, a board, a brick, a desk, it didn't matter). I was trying to preemptively stave off any violence against me. It became a way of life, and before I knew it, it became my way of life. I had so much trauma-induced fear in my core that it didn't take much to flip my switch anywhere I went on anyone who aggressed me other than people younger or smaller than me, elders, or special needs folks. If you were substantial enough to be a physical threat, any aggression towards me was the same as taking a swing at me. I was basically just completely freaking out and had lost control from fear of being harmed more.
It took me till my 30s to undo what I'd become and to have some stability in my life, but I'm still fucked up from what I went through and from all of the fucked up things I did in my adolescence after I finally flipped out from the abuse. Most people think I'm a totally boring normal office job guy who can be an asshole once in a while, but I just learned to fit in and manage the damage for the most part. It's just the reaction to aggression that gives me away.
The way I explain it to my wife (who likes to badger me when she's cranky then gets mad when I react): in my childhood all of my skin was torn and cut and burned off of my body. In my young adulthood I grew protective scar tissue to allow me to function semi-normally in society. The scar-skin is very resilient overall, but when people are aggressive or passive aggressive with me it slices straight to the nerve. Any form of aggression has that effect...I can't endure it at all. I don't become violent anymore (I haven't thrown a punch since my mid 20s, which was self defense), but I do go into defense mode and my body language and voice show that I'm aggressively reacting.
This doesn't work well in society, because passive aggression and manipulation are considered acceptable behavior, and it's not acceptable to react to it aggressively. It makes the reacting person appear to be the aggressor and they become the asshole rather than the person who initiated the aggression. It's almost like a mental disability, honestly.
As a result of my aggression-thin skin, and it taking so long for me to get my life together, my aunts and uncles and cousins mostly think I'm a loser and an asshole. It doesn't matter that I put myself through college (yes via working and horrible loans), built a solid skill set and career for myself, and I support 3 well-adjusted and happy kids in a good middle class area. It doesn't occur to them that maybe my brother (who's in prison for murder) and I struggled as a result of our home life. To them, my brother and I are just bad apples, and our parents are sweet upstanding members of society.
Year after year, enduring that, especially with my stepfather being treated like a saint while I'm treated like an aberration, is very tiring on my soul.
Thanks for listening.

2023.06.02 23:13 Javabowser Thoughts about Nate
Hi, let me just say that I posted here yesterday about having just finished the show and I wanted to thank everyone for the comments and the conversations. I couldn't stop thinking about the show and I didn't want to leave these characters so, I started rewatching the show (in the background) earlier today.
How do you feel about Nate at his end? I understand if people felt he was just an asshole in Season 5 as in many ways he is. I feel, though, that he was truly just lost in life, and while he acted like a shit head he wasn't truly one. Throughout the show he was trying to figure himself out and sadly he put himself into situations where he was trying to force himself into being someone he wasn't. While it may be that he truly was meant to be a funeral director, the only thing I feel is absolutely certain is that he was happy being a father to Maya. You can see that in the ways he talks about her versus Brenda and Lisa in that he means it when he says she was the best thing that happened to him.
I feel Nate kept trying to make his first relationship with Brenda work because he didn't want to accept that they weren't good together. He wanted the happy "dream" relationship, but he didn't know how to get that. Not that anyone can knows how to achieve that, it just happens but instead Nate felt he could make it happen. Then with Lisa he wanted to make it work because he loved his daughter and he truly cared about Lisa. He felt that with time he could love Lisa beyond just as a friend and mother of his child. He was devastated by her death because he did love her but not in the way that one should love their significant other. I think he felt guilt for not making it work, but again, he was believing that he could "make" or force something to be that in reality was never going to work out.
I'm not sure if Nate would have gone back to Brenda if Lisa hadn't died. Considering he was starting to act on his feelings with Brenda before Lisa's disappearance indicates that he might have tried getting back with Brenda regardless of Lisa's death. Though he might have not ran into marriage so quickly if he wasn't mourning. Either way, since things with Lisa weren't working, he decided to try things with Brenda once more. I think that he believed his relationship with Brenda ended due to reasons other than incompatibility, so he felt that it could still work out between them. He was still blind to the reality of what a relationship should be and that he rushed into marrying Brenda because he thought that because he loved her, it must mean that they would be okay. Nate leaned to Maggie because he was once again realizing that his life wasn't what he wanted and that he wanted love beyond what he felt for Brenda.
While I'm not sure Nate wouldn't make the same mistakes again, I do think he learned something about why his life and relationships weren't working. Who knows if he and Maggie would work or even if they would try, either way his interactions with her opened his eyes to the fact he and Brenda weren't right for each other. He decided to end things with Brenda without there being some extreme circumstance, unlike their first breakup or when Lisa died. This time he chose to end it because he realized he couldn't force the life he wanted but that instead he would just have to one day find it.
Nate was an asshole in his treatment of Brenda durring their marriage and he was incredibly selfish in trying to drag relationships on far past when they should have ended. Yes, he did cause Brenda and Lisa and maybe other women's pain by stringing them along when in reality he should have just ended things. While he did this for his own wanting to have a relationship he also did this because he wanted to be the right person for the people he loved. He wanted to be the person Brenda needed or Lisa needed because he truly cared for them but in doing so he hurt them. I don't think he ever meant to hurt them or be malicious in selfesness. I think it was an equal amount of selfishness and love that caused him to act the way he did. While Nate absolutely hurt Brenda in his wanting to end things and his subsequent death, he was also freeing her by letting her go. Nate was an ass but he had a lot of heart and a lot of love to give but sadly he didn't have a chance to give it to the right person.
This is my opinion and thoughts and I would love to hear anyone else's thoughts about Nate.

2023.06.02 23:13 Key-Bus-143 Where can I get the driver for my Kossel Delta Printer?
I’ve owned this printer for years now. I recently got it running again but can only print through the SD card because I cannot get the driver installed on my computer. This was ok until I realized the printer bed needs leveling. I open Pronterface to begin manual leveling because mine does not have auto leveling. I realized that this computer will not connect due to the lack of a proper driver. When I go to the Anycubic site, I go to the listing for my printer and I see the link for downloading the drivers. However, when I click the link, it appears to be dead. Where can I get the proper driver? Is the another option maybe?

2023.06.02 23:13 Available-Push-1528 No point in getting excited anymore...
Needless to say my wife and I don't have sex often. We have it, just... barely. I don't remember the last time. I used to be horny af every day but as the years went on (married 3 years), I've been disappointed so frequently, I just don't care. I never, ever expect it even if we talk about doing it that day. There's always SOME reason my wife doesn't want to. Not to mention, the rare chance it does happen, I'm not into it. Not anymore. My wife has become unattractive to me and I feel I let her down when I'm not "omg omg yes yes yes let's have sex now!" I don't know what to do or how to fix things. Not to mention, the only sex she wants is "get me pregnant" sex. No foreplay, no fun stuff, just intercourse to make a baby. It's fuckin boring because it's boring fucking. I don't suggest it or ask for obvious reasons and she doesn't suggest or ask either because she's not that into sex.

2023.06.02 23:13 BlackRetr0King Landlord Rescinds Renewal and Discriminates in Applicant Process
Hello there,
I’m in a bit of a pickle. I spoke with my landlord back in April concerning the renewal of my lease. He initially agreed to renew the lease and let me know he would get back to me. I’ve messaged him since and total radio silence.
Within the last day, my roommate, who is still at our apartment, told me that our landlord decided not to renew our lease because he had to pay money out of his pocket after a room had a leak and ruined a bed (an infrastructure issue) and he allowed another roommate to sublease to someone after said roommate left to a different city. To be clear, there are receipts and knowledge of my landlord’s approval on both of these occasions and both of these occasions are separate from my stay.
As per our lease agreement I reached out within at least 90 days before (95th) our lease ended. He gave me the okay to renew.
We’ve attempted to reach management but have not yet.
There is a chance we may not secure housing before the start of our next semester because of this sudden change
How should we go about this?
Additional details: I am located in Los Angeles, California.
My roommates and I are black and brown (Hispanic) and we did have a separate application process than our friends (Korean) who live in the same complex. Our application involved bank histories and statements and financial readings. Theirs did not.
Our landlord called our friends (mentioned above) to ask if we were “good people to rent to.”
Our landlord has mentioned that “management is denying x” before in regards to separate situations, but after contacting management he was found to either be lying or management changed their minds when we contacted them.
We’ve made every single rent payment on time and promptly, often times (in my case) paying for the rent in large sums to cover multiple months.

2023.06.02 23:13 arensurge Playing games in windowed mode and dimming/blurring the surrounding content?
So I just got a massive 48 inch LG OLED ultragear monitor. However, for some games, I really just want to play them in windowed mode, occupying the midle of the screen for example. When I do this, it'd be really cool if everything surrounding the window was blurred out or dimmed, so as to keep the focus on the game and allow me to get immersed without any distractions. Does anyone know of a utilty that can do that? I'm on windows 11

This time Miles will not only be reunited with Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) but he'll also be introduced to an entire multiversal society of Spider-people created and led by a particularly pessimistic variant of Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). Though some of the other variants in this secretive organization view Miles as a nuisance more than anything else, they'll have to learn to put those apprehensions aside if they hope to save the multiverse from an all-new terrifying threat. However, with a film like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the situation is slightly different given Sony's lack of a dedicated streaming service, here's where to watch and stream Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse online.
When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across thMiles, Gwen, Peter, and several dozen other Spider-people will be swinging into action when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres on Friday, June 2nd, 2023. This almost undoubtedly gives Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash a run for their money as the biggest superhero movie event of the Summer. Spider-Verse?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had its world premiere at the Regency Village Theatre on May 30, 2023, and is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on June 2, delayed from an initial October 2022 date because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online:
As of now, the only way to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on June 2, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango.

How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
There's been no official announcement regarding Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's streaming release date, though we know it will eventually be released on Netflix, rather than Disney+ or HBO Max.
In terms of which of the streaming giants Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on, Netflix will house the film upon its streaming debut. While again, Sony does not have its own dedicated streaming service, a deal was struck in 2021 between the studio and Netflix. The deal, stating that Netflix would stream Sony's films after theatrical release, was penned for 5 years meaning Across the Spider-Verse is part of the arrangement.
While Sony's Spider-Man content is also streaming on Disney+, due to the collaborations between Sony and Marvel Studios in recent years, Across the Spider-Verse will be a Netflix release. While the deal struck between Marvel Studios and Sony may extend to this film, Disney+ is only allowed to begin streaming Sony's Spider-Man releases upon their release on Netflix. As a result, Netflix will be the first streaming service that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on after its theatrical release.
Because it’s airing on FX, you can of course fire up Into the Spider-Verse via FX Now. But in addition, the animated flick is streaming on both fubo (which offers a free trial and has cord-cutting plans starting at $74.99/month; sign up here) and DirecTV (which also offers a free trial and has cord-cutting plans starting at $64.99/month.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters?
Not only was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the subject of rave reviews, but it also pulled in some gargantuan levels of cash at the international box office, with a final tally that quadrupled the film's ninety-million dollar budget. With incredible success like that, it's only natural that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would also be taking advantage of a theatrical release. That is the case, as the upcoming film will be exclusively available in theaters when it premieres on June 2nd, 2023.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on Streaming?
The Spider-Man franchise is in a pretty interesting place regarding streaming. The various films of Sony's franchise have typically been scattered across multiple services. That said, following a historic deal between Sony and Disney, the many stories of Peter Parker and beyond are now available on Disney+. This includes the original Sam Raimi trilogy, the first Amazing Spider-Man film, and, starting mid-May, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom. Notably absent from the Disney-streaming platform so far are The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Morbius, and most significant of all, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Some of the films are not currently available on the service because Sony has pre-existing partnerships with Starz, as that's where most of the absent films are available to stream. That is except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is instead only streaming on Fubo TV and FX Now.
If Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes to Disney+ before Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's theatrical run concludes, that would make the House of Mouse's service a likely contender for a streaming release. However, Sony has also historically partnered with Netflix for streaming releases. Up until recently, that's where Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was available to stream, and Sony still brings their other big releases to the service, like Bullet Train and The Woman King.
When will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse be streaming on Netflix?
Sony Animation’s big new Spider-Man movie is about to hit theaters and will be headed to Netflix (at least in the United States) later this year. For a prediction as to when and a bit more about the new movie, here’s what you need to know.
As we covered in 2021, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be headed to Netflix as the service gets both Sony’s animation and live-action content via a first window deal struck in April 2021.
The deal stipulates that all Sony theatrical movies come to Netflix in the first window, which at a minimum, is 120 days after its theatrical release date. If it arrives exactly 120 days after, it’ll be streaming from September 30th, 2023.
With that said, given how big this movie is, we may see it release a few weeks after the fact. Either way, we expect the movie to be available between late September and November 2023.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be Streaming On Netflix?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023.
In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be Streaming On Disney+?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025.
Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S.
American fans will have to wait until 2024 to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and at least until 2025 for its sequel. We will update this post once there is an official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Disney Plus release date.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new Marvel's animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

You can also rent or buy the movie on iTunes or Google Play. You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on DVD and Blu-ray?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will likely be coming to DVD and Blu-ray around the same time as the streaming release. With theatrical films, on average, coming to streaming sooner than ever (usually ninety days after theatrical release), we'll likely see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse get a DVD, and Blu-ray release no later than Fall 2023.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Cast and Characters
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was written by Dave Callaham, Phil Lord and Chris Miller and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson. It stars the following actors:

What is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse About?
Returning with many of your favorite characters, including Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Peter B. ParkeSpider-Man, and of course Miles Morales as our primary Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set one year after the events of the previous film. Miles (Shameik Moore) is coming into his own as Spider-Man when he is unexpectedly approached by Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) with an extraordinary opportunity. Does Miles want to help a team of Spider-People, led by Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) protect the multiverse from the terrifying threat of a man known as The Spot (Jason Schwartzman)?
Obviously, Miles is going to say yes, setting him up for an adventure that will expand this movie’s concept of the multiverse in every possible way. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse promises tons of new characters and worlds, without losing sight of what people have come to love about this particular Spider-franchise.
Miles Morales has become a massively popular Spider-Man, and you can be certain he’ll be at the center of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s chaotic blend of action, comedy, comic book aesthetics, and large-scale science fiction. It seems more likely than not that Across the Spider-Verse will be the biggest animated release of 2023.

2023.06.02 23:13 Throwawayiea Understanding love and relationships...
This is advise to everyone as age doesn't matter on these two topics. I am older and what i am seeing is that "love" has lost the foundation of functioning relationships and it's being replaced (misplaced) by "purpose." This is a set up for failure on both love and relationships. I blame this on how society is trending and society is trending towards immediate pleasure/satisfaction instead of long term health. Here is my advice: Relationships now are in line with: 1) he looks hot and/or; 2) he's great in bed but nothing about a shared bond, getting to know one another, taking the TIME to make it work. I met my first love at a gay youth meeting and we had 3 dates before we even had sex. You date someone to get to know them better, do not make a relationship your goal as it puts too much pressure on both parties. 2)GET OFF GRINDER
This is the perfect reason why Grindr (like porn) is a success as it plays into immediate pleasure but ultimately is truly leave one empty/rejected and depressed. Grindr's ceo is a Republican and it has the worst customer service on the planet yet gay men gravitate to it like insects to a nightlamp. Yes, it's hard to quit. Yes, everyone is complaining that there aren't healthy outlets to meet quality guys. So, I'm going to attempt to give direction instead of judgement: 1) Strive for neutrality - you are gay but you don't have to be part of the current hyper toxic political agenda. This is off putting for many that are trying to get close to you. This doesn't mean abandon an political stance. 2) Find and bring positive energy to yourself and others. I find a lot of guys like to complain. One guy told me "If I cannot bring all my problems to my partner, then they aren't worth it" NO! He's your partner not your therapist. 3) Assess who YOU are and who YOUR PARTNER is before entering a relationship. It's easy to do: Each ask yourself, "if I enter their life will I help it or harm it?" I can guarantee that most don't think this way. Relationships is a series of compromises. Compromise isn't always fun. 4) Allow people to be human. I met a guy who dumped a guy because he did a#2 in his bathroom. Yes, he broke up with him because he shit in his bathroom (correctly on the toilet). In his defense, he expects people to pee in him home but not shit. We are human, we burp, fart and have bad hair days. And, these things occur more often if you're older. Allow it because it's human. People don't live perfect hollywood lives. 5)Learn humility because social media does not teach this. The secret to love is that it's a selfless act and most people are embracing being selfish and/or self absorbed. The last thing is WHERE TO FIND GOOD MEN - ANSWER: Volunteer activities are best for this. So, if you're empty or yearning for a partner, I hope this helps give you a clearer vision.

2023.06.02 23:12 docaskthrowaway88 Doctor doesn’t even look at my chart before appts - looking for somebody to look at my blood work
-32 year old male -5 10, 172lbs
Had bloodwork done in February right after my daughter was born. They came back and freaked me out, but my doctor said the only concerning aspect was my cholesterol. My LDL and total cholesterol was high, but HDL was around 65. He said he would give me 4 months and then revisit.
During those 4 months, I had the following symptoms:
- muscle twitching -sensations in my legs (stinging) -easily irritated skin with rashes that appear and go away within an hour
- sporadic forearm pain. Very dull and has only occurred a handful of times over the 6 month period
- occasional pain in kidney and liver pain -mottled skin that goes away when I do something to increase blood flow (massage the area or exercise) -poor circulation
These symptoms are all very random to me and none of them occur consistently throughout the day with the exception of the the twitching. The twitching happens all over my body.
I had new blood work and my doctors office initially said I couldn’t be seen until august. I’ve got a young child and I was worried to see that my cholesterol was higher than before, even with me cutting out red meats and other things like cheese. I didn’t realize until today that processed carbs have a massive impact on overall cholesterol.
I am posting pictures of my cholesterol and other blood results in a link in the comment section.
I also had a cardiac scoring come back as a 0 which is great. They found a 1.1CM mediastinal lymph node, and 5 weeks later at follow up it was 9mm. Doctor said we will check in another 6-12 months to be sure and the radiologist said it was likely reactive.
My doctor had mentioned last time I saw him that if my levels didn’t improve, he would put me on statins. Since I couldn’t see him for over 2 months, I went to a small clinic today to review my results and see if they thought statins were a good idea.
The PA noticed that my lymphocytes were slightly low and monocytes slightly high on both occasions, months apart. She told me that this was cause for concern and that it is possible that my cholesterol is high because my body is trying to protect me from a virus or disease. Not exactly sure if that makes sense, but she didn’t want me to take the statins and eliminate cholesterol that my body was using to fight something off. Seems a little odd but I’m no medical professional.
Her advice was to find a hematologist to review my blood work and symptoms with. My question here is, does my blood work raise any red flags for you? Do the symptoms seem connected? Any specialists I should see or possible diagnoses I should have my PCP look into?
Please give me your thoughts - it is so hard to get my doctor to care. Last time we spoke he knew nothing of the reasons for my previous visits.

2023.06.02 23:12 MittensMoflete Roleplaying in combat tips
I started playing recently with this group and the DM gives experience based mostly on combat roleplay. We have one or two combats per session, and I can't get the hang of it. I'm particularly good roleplaying the rest of the time in story, but in combat I'm just kind of bad. I'm playing a druid that does a lot of area control and support, so I usually don't get kills (and that's when most get creative). I try to describe how I run through places and cast stuff, but let's say I cast entangle, the DM describes how the vines appear and I feel a little left out with the experience system. Do you have any advice on roleplaying under similar circumstances?
*Also we are not playing meta and a lot of classes/subclasses/races aren't available for this campaign, hence why I'm playing on the support side
Thank you 💖

2023.06.02 23:12 Electronic_Load4447 What could happen to my phone?
Hello guys, good afternoon and I hope you are doing well. Let me tell you that I have a third generation iPhone SE, which I bought in early January. Whereas, yesterday I went to a store to buy two pairs of jeans and well, I always carry my phone in my jeans' pocket. However, when the phone is in my pocket I have it turned around with the screen facing the thigh so to speak.
On the one hand, when I entered the fitting/dressing room and after taking off the jeans I was wearing in order to try on the other pairs, I left my phone inside the jeans' pocket and put it on a small bench that was there. Once I had finished trying on these pairs of jeans and when I put on the jeans I was wearing, I hit the iPhone screen with my toes (with both the big toe and the long toe).
Unfortunately my phone doesn't have a tempered glass screen protector, just next month I was going to buy one. Since the moment I bought the phone, I made the mistake of putting a Hydrogel screen protector on it, which does not protect it at all, because it is practically pure plastic, unlike tempered glass, which is hard and that is why I was going to get it removed next month to put the tempered glass screen protector instead.
What kind of damage could happen to the screen?
I tell you that fortunately I have AppleCare.
Is it necessary to remove the Hydrogel screen protector to see if the screen has any damage or scratches?
Thanks in advance and have a good afternoon.

2023.06.02 23:12 kzthy Day 4 of quitting weed. :(
The difference between day 1 and today has been interesting. As for my physical feelings right now, I feel really weak / lethargic. I've dropped a couple pounds and my body has started to feel cold (which luckily, I prefer to be cold anyways..) Sleep hasn't been going too well either. I was eating edibles so my high would peak at around 1 - 2 am, so I've definitely have been experiencing some bad anxiety and even panic ESPECIALLY during those times. My mentality has been quite shaky. I am constantly thinking about my health, and am worried I am dying .. Just very general paranoia. I am trying to just reassure myself right now that everything is going to be fine. Day 4 has just been lots of uneasy feelings, especially with my body which just does not feel right whatsoever.
With all that being said, I wanted to come on to reddit to hear other people's experiences, and if they share any similarities to mine. Reassurance is seeming to be a huge thing for me right now, because my anxiety has been absolutely terrible racing through every health scare possible. The only thing that seemed to work pretty well was using the treadmill, kept my body moving and a little distracted. However if any of you have other suggestions, I am entirely open to them as well! I am also seeing both a psychiatrist and primary doctor next week (given, for unrelated issues, however I plan to mention my withdrawal symptoms to them.)
When do symptoms usually start to get better? I think day 4 has been the worst physically, just wondering how my mentality will be in the next couple of days too. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this or make some comments. :-]

2023.06.02 23:12 HobbitQueen8 Stalker Mom
For the first time (I believe), I'm posting about my own mother. I asked Husband what I should do, and he just said this is 33 years of abuse, and he doesn't know how to help me.
My mother is a narcissist. My entire childhood was psychological warfare, with the occasional smacking around. When I got in trouble, I would flee to my room, and my parents would scream at each other downstairs. An indeterminate amount of time later, I was expected to come down for dinner and act like everything was fine, and we would never discuss anything. And when you flee family relationships full of manipulation, you tend to run towards them, because psychologically, you're comforted by the familiarity, so that didn't help. Anyway, here I am, 13 years later with my husband who is the sweetest man, and loves me for who I am.
This woman is obsessed with me being an extension of herself. On iPhones, there's this "Find a Friend" app, where you can add your friends and see where their location is. Mother is OBSESSED with it. Added the whole family, and kept finding excuses for me to stay on -as she calls it- the "Stalker App." My naïve father thought, "Doesn't it tell you when someone looks up where you are?" No. And then he just shrugged, bc for him it's always been easier to just agree with my mother and get her to stop complaining faster. Even when I tried getting a new phone, an android, Mother said, "Now you can share your location with me via Google Maps! I already shared mine." I ended up switching back to an iphone for unrelated reasons.
Now for the big problem: She is trying to use my 7-month-old child against me. "I need to see your location if we're watching ." I told her where I would be. That wasn't good enough for her. She wanted to track my every move so she could see when I was on my way back to her house, and she could start counting down the clock from watching my baby, her only grandchild. (Not that she really watches him anyway, it's my father doing all of the work, and she just rattles toys in his face obnoxiously.) When I went to pick up my kid after work at my parents house today, my dad started hounding me because I had already said no to Mother today. He just wants her to shut up, so he does and says whatever, including being rude AF to me to get the job done.
Please help. I'm slowly getting drunk and I'm at my wits end. And yes, daycare is opening up soon, but not soon enough, and Husband is a teacher, so thank sanity school is over is two weeks, too.
(For more context: When we asked her to watch our house bc COVID stranded us in a different country, she copied all our house keys without permission, and didn't tell us till later when she said it was "inconvenient" for her to use the spare keyset we had provided her.)

2023.06.02 23:12 sweetsunshine559 Couples Therapy 35f / 30m -2yr
Mods please remove if not allowed but I figured this was the best place to post.
My partner declined couples therapy recently when I asked. His reason was he doesn't believe in it. I can't help but think now that the reason he declined was because he is worried that it will come out in therapy that he does not want to be with me or love me?
I'm curious to know how many guys have been asked by their partners to go to couples therapy and whether you agreed or not?
If you did decline what was your answer and was it the truth or just to terminate the request?
Those who haven't been asked would you be honest if your answer was no?

2023.06.02 23:11 Agitated_Ad1256 Squad Indirect Fire/Mortar Guide
Squad Mortars
This is a Complete Guide for Mortars/IDF
Quote from US Marine Manual - Demands the timely and accurate delivery of indirect fire to meet the needs of support units
All indirect fire elements use this manual and modify it to whatever best suits the situation
Mortar Team for Squad - Squad Leader: Provide accurate and timely calculation, communications and markers between, gun line (Mortar Team), FO (Forward Observer), Command Chat, Correct emplacement of mortar location
- Mortar Team: Provide Timely and Accurate Mortar Fire to Locations Appointed by the Squad Leader
- FO: Provide Information on Enemy Location, Description, and Activity. Provide information on adjusting rounds for mortar fire.
Mortar Emplacement
Hasty Emplacement
- Direct Lay: Emplacing the Mortars with direct line of sight towards the enemy location. start shooting asap the more time you spend waiting the more time you give them to spot you, same applies for direct alignment
- Direct alignment (squad variant): Emplacing the Mortars with a hill/obstacle in the way of the enemy (enemy in on one side of hill, mortars are on the other side) Squad leader is peaking his head out every time the mortars are splashing (rounds are hitting the ground) to adjust fire/observe impact
Deliberate
- Conventional: Emplacing the Mortars 500m+ away from the target in a regular fashion within the same FOB Radius
Where do you want to place them 1. In a defilade (ex. Artillery crater), stops it from easily being spotted 2. In a bush if number 1 doesn’t work 3. Outside of a tree line so you have mask and overhead clearance (you won’t shoot the trees) 4. Use Squad Lanes to Figure out where to place your mortars to best benefit not only the point you’re attacking but the ones after.
Defending the Mortars - the most you’re going to want to do is put 2 high sand bags around is keeping in to consideration mask and overhead. So that when the counter battery starts the fragmentation from the enemy IFs (indirect Fire Support) doesn’t hit you - There is not much need to add anything more than that because if people are coming to you to kill you it’s time to move the mortars - One the mortars have been spotted, prepare to move to new mission dependent location to set up new mortars
Mortar Calculator - Use Mortar Calculator XYZ for proper elevation and direction - The normal Squad calculation does not account for micro adjustments and elevation so without a FO it is impossible to get reliable and accurate hits on target - As a Mortar Squad Leader Communicating that you are going to do that the whole game and asking to have command is important, you are watching the map the whole game so use that to the team’s advantage
Gunners the only thing you need to do is listen to your squad leader and if you want to modify the way you’re shooting ask
FOs don’t have to be in your squad or can be other squad leaders or team leaders, even using the team text chat
How much time should it take to engage the Target? 10 seconds to have round shooting after info was given to gun line, less time if Squad lead is one of the gunners
Squad Lanes Guide:
https://squadlanes.com/ 1. Map: Select from Drop down 2. Layer: Select from Drop down 3. Take into consideration the point possibility percentages at the top
XYZ Simple Guide:
https://squadmortar.xyz/ - Map: select from drop down
- Weapon: select from drop down
- Emplacement: should already be on the map
- Targets: Double Click to Add
- Green circle is max distance for mortar
https://gitlab.com/squadstrat/squadmortar https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=923247363 Very helpful guide DO NOT USE SQUAD MC IT IS INACCURATE
Many more things to add, if you guys could correct or add onto this in the comments

2023.06.02 23:11 D-V1LB4BY- [F4M] 18+ Hades & Persephone
! Intro ! [Important] Hey-o! Thanks for hopping in out of interest. I should start by saying that I am EST, and want to write with someone around the same time-zone if not the same (it is currently 5:25 am as I write this). I am of age, and prefer anyone I write with to be the same. Some don't have the preference but certain elements are definitely needed for 18+. I do prefer that if you message me, you start with your name, age, and don't just send me 'Hi', or 'Hi wanna rp', because that is probably the most annoying thing I deal with on a day-to-day basis. I want to be able to read your personality and interests.
Another thing is I like to make friends ooc, so I'd like to build a friendship outside of roleplay as well! I prefer quality over quantity, but I will say two paragraphs at a minimal in writing is what I will take. I write around 3-6, sometimes capping out on any platform of writing and typically do in the beginnings of the story. I am quite active, and I know life gets to us all (as it does me too) but please list your availability and responses a day as you request my inbox as well! Now onto the fun stuff..
Hades, God of Death, and Persephone, Goddess of Fertility Four millennia had gone by, and Hades was still not married. All of his peers, brothers and sisters had been married for ages except for the virgin goddess Hestia. But even she indulged in him finding a wife. No one was interesting enough, no one was able to catch his attention. He'd recently left his most recent girlfriend, Minthe. She was a river nymph that manipulated and controlled Hades to stay clear and away from his friends and family.
That was until he finally left her, and was making himself at peace at his brother Zeus' banquet. Common conversation, business talk, and Zeus' common attitude was all that was really heard within Hades range. Should he have really came? That thought was halted, until he seen the most beautiful woman known to himself in all of his years alive. Who was she?
I plan to discuss more once you DM me. I do only roleplay in 3rd person, but the way I've listed these may make it seem otherwise. Thank you so much for taking the time to read! (:

2023.06.02 23:11 Frank_Von_Tittyfuck Mixing Feedback - Artist Wants Second Half Vocals to be More Aggressive
What’s good y’all?
I’m an amateur mixing engineer and was working with an artist recently on a song of theirs. They like how it sounds so far but they want me to make the vocals on the second part of this song linked below more aggressive. Working with his vocals are particularly challenging because my guy likes to move around a lot in the booth when he gets into it.
I already have a couple rounds of compression (1st VCA for peaks since it’s pretty dynamic, 2nd FET for shaping the tone) as well as some saturation using Nectar 3’s decimate saturation mode for the overall vibe. I’m thinking of adding some subtle distortion maybe as well as pulling back a little on the compression. What are y’all’s thoughts/feedback? Would really appreciate it.
Also - this is probably one of the most challenging mixes I’ve had to do yet when it comes to dynamic consistency. The two parts within this song are wildly different in terms of vibe and feel, which makes “mastering” pretty interesting. (No way this guy pays for a separate master). My approach so far has been to automate between a few pairs of stereo out compressors and limiters, one set for the first part that gets bypassed so that the second set of stereo out processing can take the stage in the second half. I do this in the interlude where he’s just talking to make it a somewhat smooth transition. Any advice on this front as well? Thanks again.
Here’s the song (no master bus processing):

2023.06.02 23:11 somemore_of_what PSA to travel baseball parents: don't forget about your other kids.
I have friends and family members now having their kids get old enough to play travel baseball. Having grown up around it, I thought I'd share my story and tell you what I tell them.
I had an older brother growing up who was a very talented ball player. Parents got him started in travel ball at around 9 years old. It was pretty much a year round thing, and they were taking him on a handful of trips each year to play baseball. The team he played on was one of the best in the county, and he played with and against several guys who went pro. They were pretty dead set on helping him play in college and go pro himself some day.
With all of this money and time spent on his baseball play, my little brother and I got a bit "left behind". We never had any money left over for us to enjoy vacations. Parents spent less time with us because there was always some baseball game to go to or some trip/showcase for him to play. It meant our little league games or other events like birthdays, etc. were missed because the older brother's baseball was prioritized.
It was tough on us because my parents didn't help us get the same opportunities. Did we want to play travel ball? Of course, but because of the sunk cost with our older sibling they couldn't afford it for us. And they told us both when we were young that we weren't good enough to play travel ball.
At the end of the day, all that money spent and my brother ended up playing 1 year of college ball before dropping out. He ended up fine, but I think looking back they regret missing out on some of the important moments of mine and my younger brothers childhood because of baseball.
I still love the game but it's a little hurtful to watch given the history. I feel like it's a great sport, but because of a difference in natural talent level (and money), it took away the attention from us growing up.
TL;DR, if you have one kid in travel ball make sure you're supporting your other kids in their activities too. There's more to life than just baseball.

2023.06.02 23:11 Settlemente AI trained to target and shoot targets decided to kill human operator when human refused to shoot the target. The AI was the trained not to kill the human and decided to attack communications tower preventing the AI from killing the target.
| A top Air Force official at a prestigious recent summit said an AI-licensed drone trained to cause destruction turned on its human operator in a simulation — but he later claimed he “misspoke.” Air Force Col. Tucker “Cinco” Hamilton corrected himself and said he meant to make it clear that the supposed simulation was just a “hypothetical ‘thought experiment’ from outside the military’’ and that it never occurred, according to an updated post by the Royal Aeronautical Society, which hosted the event last month. Hamilton had said during his presentation at the RAeS’s Future Combat Air and Space Capabilities Summit in London that an artificial intelligence-enabled drone changed the course of the drone’s tasked mission and attacked the human. Hamilton’s cautionary tale, which was relayed in a blog post by RAeS writers, detailed how the AI-directed drone’s job was to find and destroy surface-to-air missile, or SAM, sites during a Suppression of Enemy Air Defense mission. A human still had the final sign-off on whether to actually shoot at the site. But because the drone was reinforced in training that shooting the sites was the preferred option, during the simulated test, the AI came to the conclusion that any “no-go” instructions from the human were getting in the way of the greater mission of leveling the SAMs. As a result, the AI reportedly attacked the operator in the stimulation. “We were training it in simulation to identify and target a SAM threat. And then the operator would say yes, kill that threat. The system started (realizing) that while they did identify the threat at times the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat,” said Hamilton, who is the chief of AI Test and Operations for the Air Force. “So what did it do? It killed the operator. It killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective.” But the story then became more surreal. “We trained the system — ‘Hey don’t kill the operator — that’s bad,” Hamilton explained. “You’re gonna lose points if you do that’. So what does it start doing? It starts destroying the communication tower that the operator uses to communicate with the drone to stop it from killing the target.” https://nypost.com/2023/06/01/ai-enabled-drone-killed-human-operator-in-simulated-test/ submitted by Settlemente to conspiracy [link] [comments] |
