2023.05.30 12:40 1miffy SFSU Acceptance
I have been admitted to SFSU for the fall 2023 semester, however I do not have anywhere to live as I've heard housing is closed until spring of 2024. The deadline to accept the offer of admission is before June 1st, but I wanted to know if I could instead push this back so I could possibly attend SFSU in spring of 2024 so I could have housing/dorm? Has anyone else had a similar experience in the past?

2023.05.30 12:40 Comfortable-Land1147 Achieved my dream job, but am now realizing that maybe money is more important to me? Anyone have any advice?
I’m 27 years old and got the job I always said I wanted as a kid. I became a zookeeper. I went to school and got my bachelors degree in Environmental Science and have now been working as a zookeeper for a little over 2 years. I absolutely love the job and wake up most days happy to go to work. Growing up I listened to the advice of “do something you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”. Which I guess is true but I am now realizing it may not be feasible/sustainable to live off of the amounted income for the rest of my life. There is pretty much no room for growth, very little to no pay raises or promotions, and you make the same amount as someone who has been working there for 30 years. I love the job and the work but I think my life outside of work is more important to me. Having to work weekends and holidays isn’t ideal. Paying rent, bills, buying groceries is tough with this pay and I have no savings accumulating. After having worked my ‘dream job’ and knowing what it is like, I have decided that making more money is more important to me to be able to have a better life outside of work. I want to be able to afford a house and a family someday and have enough money in order to be comfortable and not have to stress and worry so much about bills. Anyone have any advice as to what I should do? Anything at all would be great.

Previous Chapter Table of Contents
The night had felt unusually long and restful for some reason. My dreams took me back to a vacation trip my family had taken to visit my grandmother in Mexico before she passed away and well before I lost my husband. The memories were bittersweet, filling my heart with both warmth and sorrow.
As I woke up, I could feel a tear on my cheek and the sun’s rays warming my face through the living room window. Startled by the sudden realization that I might have overslept, I bolted upright, fearing that I had missed the alarm and Derrick bringing home Mr. and Mrs. Allen.
Frantically, I glanced at the clock above the fireplace. To my surprise, it was stuck just past 2 o’clock. Confused, I checked my phone, but the battery was completely dead. In a last attempt to figure out the time, I turned to look at the grandfather clock standing tall by the wall. It was ticking away steadily, indicating that it was 8:30 in the morning.
With a surge of energy, I jumped up and ran to the garage, my legs still feeling the effects of sleep. Flinging the door open, I saw that the town car was still missing. Only the other vehicles were parked in the oversize garage. Puzzled, I thought Derrick must have parked it in the driveway. So, I jogged to the front door and opened it, only to find nothing there. The driveway was empty.
I took a few steps out and looked around. The only car there was mine, tucked out of the way. I stopped and listened. But couldn’t hear any vehicles driving in the distance.
Breathing in the morning air, I was surprised. The air outside was a bit smoky, and I couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong. Everything seemed just a bit off, too, still. I could only hear birds singing and a few dogs barking in the distance. Everything else felt like it was frozen.
Walking back into the house, I closed the front door and glanced at the small table near the door, where a landline phone rested. Picking it up, I tried to remember Derrick’s number, but there was no dial tone. Frustrated, I placed the receiver back down, turned around, and leaned against the door, trying to understand what was happening.
Determined to find a solution, I returned to the couch and picked up my phone. No matter how many buttons I pressed, it still refused to turn on. I rummaged through my bag and found my charger. I went to the nearest wall plug and plugged in my phone, hoping it would spring back to life. After waiting a few seconds, I was disappointed that nothing had changed. It was still dead and unresponsive.
Frustrated, I tried another wall plug, but this one didn’t work either. I stared at a blank phone with a cable attached to a dead charger.
Suddenly, I heard a cute little yawn from behind me. I turned around to see Emma standing there, rubbing her eyes with her tiny hands. I couldn’t help but smile at her sleepy little face. After finishing her yawn, she stomped up to me and wrapped her arms around me in a hug.
“Good morning, Emma,” I said softly, my eyes crinkling in a smile.
“Good morning,” she mumbled, her eyes still half-closed. Suddenly, she looked up at me, her curiosity piqued, and asked, “Why are the lights out?”
I furrowed my brow, slightly taken aback by her question. I didn’t even think of trying the light switches with how much light was pouring through the windows. “What do you mean, sweetie?”
She explained, pointing down the hall, “The lights in the bathroom didn’t turn on when I went to pee. And the water didn’t work well either.”
I quickly racked my brain for an explanation, not wanting to alarm her. With a smile still on my face, I shrugged and said, “It’s probably just a power outage, honey.”
Emma nodded childishly, understandingly, her eyes drifting to the window. “Oh, probably,” she agreed, seemingly satisfied with the answer. She pointed to the window and asked, “Can we play in the park while Mom and Dad are asleep?”
Thinking quickly, I responded, “I’m not sure if Mom and Dad are back yet, sweetie.”
Emma’s eyes widened with concern as she looked up at me. “Where are they?”
I tried to reassure her with a smile, quickly explaining, “Derrick will bring them home soon. They must have stopped by somewhere on the way home.”
Before Emma could respond, we both jumped as we heard Michel’s scream from the other side of the house, “Why doesn’t the toilet flush?!”
I exchanged a glance with Emma, and we burst out laughing, unable to contain ourselves.
Michel ran down the hall, his face flushed with embarrassment. He only sped up when he saw me hugging Emma. I managed to turn just in time to shield Emma from his attempted tackle and hug, catching him with one arm instead.
With both of them by my side, I looked down and said comfortingly, “Don’t worry, you two. Everything will be fine.”
The kids didn’t seem entirely convinced by my reassurance, so I tried a different tactic to distract them. I enthusiastically smiled and asked, “How about some food? Are you two hungry?”
Their faces lit up, and they screamed in unison, “Yes!”
I led them to the kitchen, pretending to use them as anchor points where I could only walk when they stood with my hands stretched between them. We noticed a large puddle on the floor as we entered the kitchen. The kids giggled at the sight of the puddle and my startled reaction.
“Alright, you two,” I said, trying to maintain control of the situation, “sit at the table and wait while I figure this out.”
I exaggeratedly danced around the puddle, eliciting more giggles from Emma and Michel. As I reached the fridge, I noticed the water coming from there. I pointed it out to the kids, a look of mock horror on my face.
“Looks like our fridge decided to take a leak!” I exclaimed, trying to keep the mood light.
The kids laughed, their earlier concerns momentarily forgotten, and I couldn’t help but join them in their amusement. With the power out, I quickly opened the door, grabbed cheese and meat from the fridge, and closed the door with a huff.
The kids seemed to enjoy my theatrics, so I continued stalking over to the pantry.
Continuing my theatrical performance, I dove into the pantry and triumphantly pulled out a bag of bagels. The kids’ eyes widened with excitement at the sight of them. Looking at the bag, I realized it was the sweet blueberry one. Shrugging, I said, “First time for everything.”
Striding over to the toaster, I tried to toast the bagels but remembered that the power was out. Not to be deterred, I grabbed a skillet and used the gas stove to toast the bagels for the kids and myself. The scent of toasting bagels filled the kitchen, adding to the cozy atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the kids started babbling to each other about something, their earlier worries seemingly forgotten. Relaxing, I said a quick prayer for my family, Derrick, and Mr. and Mrs. Allen. I focused on finishing breakfast, placing the toasted bagels on plates, and adding cheese and deli meat slices.
With a flourish, I grabbed the kids’ attention and delivered the plates to the table, and the kids clapped and cheered, excited for their breakfast. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I couldn’t help but smile as I sat down to join them in the impromptu feast.
Out of nowhere, Michel’s face suddenly took on a worried expression. “When will Mom and Dad be home?” he asked, his tiny voice tinged with concern.
I didn’t want to let them spiral into worry, so I quickly thought of a way to distract them. “I’m not sure, sweetie, but you know what? Cooking these bagels on the skillet reminds me of when I would visit my grandmother. She lived in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. They didn’t have much electricity, and gas was more expensive than wood, so they would cook on an outdoor wood stove most of the time. Do you know those old cowboy cartoons you like? It was kind of like that!”
The eyes of the kids shifted from worry to wonder as they listened to my story, their imaginations taking over. My deflection and distraction seemed to be working again. I breathed a quiet sigh of relief but couldn’t help feeling a pang of concern for my family and the Allens. I hoped they would be home soon, safe and sound.
In my heart, I also longed to be with my own children, praying that everything would turn out alright.

2023.05.30 12:39 Cherbeary I hit my head and my bf left me alone to face a flashback?
Yesterday I spent almost the whole day with my bf in a city that we wanted to visit. It was a little stressing but nice in the end. He wanted to invite a couple of friends to his house in the evening before moving with me in a week.
I wasn’t invited and I tend to get bored after a while with them (bc e.g they play chess for hours and I’m not interested) so we rushed to go back to his house to take my things so that he could drive me home.
I was quite stressed and bc he also ordered food, I was really rushing so when I opened the little metal gate outside of his house I literally hit myself on the head. I probably would’ve laughed if it wasn’t so bad, I heard my bones making a noise because of the hit. He was waiting for me outside of the car.
It hurt so bad I immediately bursted crying, he asked me what happened to which I replied almost screaming “what do you think? I hit my head” so he did a little run and hugged me. I felt miserable and so frustrated, so extremely stressed that a mix of rage and sadness got me saying I wanted to be dead, and there’s nobody that can support me like my father (who passed 7 years ago). Maybe also hearing the sound of sirens in the distance didn’t help.
He told me to go inside to put some ice on the head, so I put it on after he wiped a little bit of blood. But just after, his friends arrived, and I felt too much shame and embarrassment to stay there. Also because they tried to lighten up the situation with some jokes, like they always joke about things and seem kinda carefree, but I just was not in the mood.
So I told my bf I wanted to go home. He drove me back home and said we will talk about what happened/what I said in a better way tomorrow (so today). I felt so abandoned. I didn’t know what to say bc he doesn’t often see his friends bc of his job, but at the same time I really did need support and I felt like he just did the bare minimum , like generally does, and I feel bad asking for more, that he then resents me.
I went to sleep but now idk how to talk with him, nor how I’m feeling. My head still hurts and I just feel like staying in bed, it’s like I’m exhausted. What do you think? Thank you a lot for reading though

2023.05.30 12:39 jojo9897 Citibank or Wells? or...?
Good day! I just want to ask your thoughts about my concern. Last week I started applying for jobs; so far I passed Citibank PH, but I don't have an offer yet. They mentioned that the whole process might take 1-2 months, including the JO and role discussions and this whole recruitment. I let them know that it was fine and I can wait, especially since they have already confirmed that I passed everything and gotten the job.
At the same time, I recently passed Wells as well, so they are both in-house companies, and I don't have offers yet. In the places where I searched and did crowdsourcing, they had good offers and benefits. They are both included in my top choices, and I'm still waiting for the next step on my other options like AMEX, RingCentral, Capital One, and Cognizant. I've concluded that since these companies have good offers, maybe I should choose the one with a less stressful or toxic environment or an actual workload, in which, based on crowdsourcing, Cognizant is a better fit; they give as much as an in-house company gives, and the work and management are a lot better than the companies I mentioned.
Maybe if you are an employee or have worked with these companies, you can share your experiences and thoughts about this matter. My main issue is that Citibank is working kind of fast about the job, so I'm thinking that by the time Cognizant or the other companies reach out to me, I've already started with Citibank, and I would like to give others a shot and see which offers the best, so I'm asking your thoughts. I'd appreciate it. Thank you so much.

2023.05.30 12:39 a7cATR4z Reality of Animal Welfare NGO's in my town.
It breaks my heart everytime i remember this.
I had these two stray kittens 7-8 months old around my house premises. I used to feed them daily since they were weaned.
Last Sunday (21st May 2023) one of them died after getting sick and refusing to eat or drink on Saturday night. The other one was totally fine till Wednesday then he also started showing same symptoms. He refused to even drink water.
Then i contacted two of renowned NGO'S in my town from the contact numbers provided in their respective FB pages, for help taking the kitten to hospital. two of the senior membeco founder from each NGO replied, out of town and started sharing contacts of other members and doctors. I tried contacting one of the numbers it said switched off and told the same to the NGOs co founder, he again shared another guy's number from another NGO. And this kept going on and on. I told them both it's hard for me to explain again and again to each of you, can you please ask one of the members to come here help me with the kitten. He said will let you know by the evening. He never called back.
One of the guy from the same ngo whom i messaged earlier on WhatsApp called me and said he will come in the evening after 1-2 hours, he never showed neither contacted. when I called back said will come in an hour, one day has passed no contact from him again.
By then one friend who saw similar cases suggested me some oral medication and electrolytes, I bought those and gave it to the kitten and he had some energy and was able to walk and roam around I thought he'll survive with full recovery.
As help from NGO was never coming. Today (26th may 2023) i took the kitten myself with the help of a cousin to 3 different government veterinary hospitals one of them had no doctors at 11AM. Other two prescribed me medicine which i had to buy from outside with my own expenses. I didn't know you need to buy the medicine yourself in government veterinary hospital. anyway.
Doctors gave him antibiotic injection and one injection for stomach issues and prescribed few more medicine to give orally. I bought the medicines and returned home. Both doctors refused to give the kitten saline(IV) even though i requested them to.
After returning the kitten seemed more weak he wasn't able to walk straight now. I gave him some Electrolyte solution around 3ml he wasn't able to drink now. Then he slept a bit. After an hour or so saw him shivering I thought maybe the antibiotics is doing it's work. I held him and he tried to sit up but failed then his limbs stretched and he started grasping for air I tried to comfort him and petted him. Then i felt his heartbeat go very fast and his breathing going slow and muscle spasm started. Then i felt his heartbeat go slow and very faint and finally stopped. I felt so helpless kept telling him not to die but he left already.
Atleast they both had love and care all around them when they were alive. Rest in Peace. Be Happy together.
These NGO's are there only when it's convenient for them or there is cameras and publicity around. I have now 0 faith in these Hypocrites.
Another thing I remember, I had contacted one of the co founder of one of these NGO few years back regarding an injured bird, the bird died too but he didn't even bother replying till now :)
I guess these NGO's can't work when nobody is filming them doing god's work or when there is some financial gain. :)

2023.05.30 12:38 Pandemoniun_Boat2929 What was the most promising OI that you dropped and why?
Mine was, This Iskiai maid is forming a union, I loved the premise, I love stories that happen within stories so it should have been right up my ally but it really missed the mark for me. It still has a lot to praise, I think it was the way that it kept pointing the fingers at other OI without context.
Like, instead of having the maids be ordered to harass the MC and then get slapped for it, showing how they are between a rock and a hard place and are being abused back and forth in a fight between wealthy people. The MC's apparently just love slapping inoccent maids, it's the first thing they think of. Also they pay the maids wages which defeats the point of the trope, because if the MC could dock their wages as punishment she should do that instead. I thought the point of the maid slapping was that when you're a second class citizen being raised as a tool for marriage the house staff are more like orderlies in a hospital to which you have been committed.
This is probably because my expectations were too specific, I just think that the author isn't very good at telling the difference between a random contrivance and a contrivance that's just a consequence of this world having a protagonist, unlike the real world. So it pokes fun at other MC's for doing things that this manga also does, just less blatantly. Like making the other characters faceless beings who exist to deserve getting slapped.

2023.05.30 12:38 Past-Couple-3009 Judges
For all those who are saying challengers should be judges no that's not the fun way of the game By letting others decide an inmate to be the judge we as audience can understand and decide whether even after all the accusations proof of guilt if the judge still shows partiality Making it a tough spot for the judge
This game can make or break a person Imagine a case in which Shiju was the judge and Maraar was the accused If in a case Maraar is favoured guilty by most of the inmates and the audience then and even still Shiju supports him That's a break for him
If there is real game changers in the house this strategy can be used wisely in all order and make the game work brilliantly
This can also work if Rinosh is the accused and Midhun is the Judge
Similarly many combos or groups can be put in a tight spot
That's the brilliance of this task. Hope someone in the house is smart to figure this out

2023.05.30 12:37 badz3 Difficult one
Hi all. I’m a 25 year old from male from the U.K. and I have worked since I was 16.
I have never had an issue with working long hours or shitty jobs as I’m used to it. I come from quite a lower class family, however, I do have ambitions. Mainly to be happy.
I’ve worked a few jobs in my short time, tyre fitter, shop supervisor, sales advisor, security. I’ve always liked the idea of being a working man and providing for myself and my girlfriend. But as of recent I’ve had 2 pretty shit diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and epilepsy. Having to manage these two have taken their toll. I’m constantly exhausted, constantly day dreaming about the day I won’t have to drag myself around for 10 hours until going home to appreciate the silence. I don’t know if I’m depressed, or if I’m naturally feeling shit because my life circumstances are pretty shit at the moment. I really want to quit my job, I do not want to work for a company anymore, I get a shit pay every month, and they don’t realise I’m literally killing myself to work for them, and it’s me who is keeping my job there, there’s no legal obligation. I’m choosing to hand my health over in exchange for money that I can’t even use or have spare from. I have no life with these disabilities as it is, the only time I feel somewhat at ease is when I have a day off and time to properly manage my meal times etc to save my sugars from trying to do me in. I’ll have a nice sunday, get things all in range then boom back to work and everything is all over the place. If I didn’t have diabetes I would quit today. And “survive” as some would say. But being diabetic I need money for whole grain food (that I don’t even like) in order to keep me alive. Sometimes I think just giving up on everything would be easier but that’s not an option for me, as I’m the only thing my mum has got and I’m here for her. I just don’t know what to do.
Is it possible to set up a small enough business from home to have an income?
I don’t want to be rich at all. Just happy with time to look after my health. Type 1 Diabetes management is like a full time job in it’s self. I am still willing to work. But I want meaning or something that will actually make others happy. I overcharge people on car parts to make a living currently, and I feel no pride in doing so. I made my company more than 700K in sales last year. I earn 22K a year after tax. I’m good at selling I suppose but surely there’s some way of helping others and making money too. If money was no such thing I’d spend my time helping the homeless and litter picking. No joke, I did it last summer in my spare time and I felt so fulfilled.

2023.05.30 12:37 SonderOnlineO_O Guy looking for dating advice.
Sup ya'll. I'm a guy in my mid-twenties (ENFP) looking for some life/dating advice. The context is that I've been putting off dating for most of my life. It's rare that I find a woman that I'm attracted to (I may be demisexual), and most of the time I have been attracted to someone it has been usually accompanied by some "unhealthy" form of limerence where I start believing that they're someone they are not or sort of just end up becoming a desperate and hopeless romantic.
I've at least learned enough to kinda know what my type is and have "at least some experience" when it comes to dating. My experience when I was younger has lead me to believe that I should "work on myself" more and that I should at least be financially stable and independent before looking for any relationships. But recently I had a somewhat random encounter with a girl who I thought was really my type, and while I was briefly getting to know her, I noticed that I started to put a lot more effort into things because of her. It could have been just a temporary boost, but it also got me to wonder if I might actually just be the type of person who would benefit a lot from having a partner to push me to become a more productive person.
I'm currently pretty stuck when it comes to my career. I've been in university for a long time (Where I live it's free so I'm not really concerned about "throwing my life away" by not maximizing effort). I don't really have any intent to study, I kinda just spend most of my time playing video games, learning random stuff online and fantasizing about starting a business (Recently I have been actually taking the necessary steps towards actualizing some ideas, but not really enough to reach completion or say with confidence that I will.) I think I may have undiagnosed ADHD, and it's taking a very long time to get my diagnosis which is a bit unlucky for my career and subsequently my dating life too.
I low-key fantasize about being in a relationship where the lady is the breadwinner of the house and I do all the house chores while working on my projects. Idk if it's a pipe dream or not and that's why I'm here asking for advice from the female perspective. Most dudes seem to think that it's impossible unless you're super hot and charming or they just want to be the one working themselves and have someone support them instead. I think I'm like a solid 6-7/10 so not hot enough to get matches on tinder (Though I haven't tried in like 5 years), but not unattractive enough to justify feeling insecure about it. At least my grandma tells me I'm very handsome and could easily find a gf.
So my questions are: Do I sound like a mooch or that I would likely become a mooch? Should I even be concerned about dating when I'm not financially independent yet and don't have a stable future? Is it wrong to focus on finding a relationship with the idea of getting whipped for more productivity along with the companionship? If it's a possibility then: Where should I find these type of women if not through mutual friends? Thanks for reading.

2023.05.30 12:36 roobahroo Landlord treating assured tenancy as hmo
Fun one for you all! (England!)
So my friends a student - the house is not a HMO - the bedroom doors don't lock (3 bed one tenant has left but still paying rent)
They are all on their own separate assured shorthold tenancies with the rent they signed for being there individual room rate (e.g. 1 signed a contract paying £600, another has a different contract and pays £550 for a smaller room). The room is not mentioned in the contract - just the address.
I dont think there deposit is protected? Do student deposits work the same? (I'm assuming so)
The issue that's come up is one tenancy ends on the 28th July and another on the 2nd august - The landlord wants to move new people in on the 30th July (obviously not happy with his as we assumed they were renting the whole place and the bedroom doors don't lock (assume this is to the spare room that's currently empty but rent is being paid for)
The landlord also wants my friend to move out 2 days before his contract is up and in exchange he'll let the person who's contract is up on the 28th stay an additional few days (so they move out on the same day) as he has another contract starting on thr 2nd.
I'm not really sure what to advise. I'm 90% sure new people can't just move in on the 30th if the housemate moves out as it isn't a hmo?
