Ms. Marvel, Jersey’s hero, and Marvel Comics’ first Muslim superhero to headline her own series, broke boundaries and ushered in an entire slew of new readers — and her death can’t even focus on her. In 2014, I was still rather new to comics and had just finished backreading years of trades of X-Men when Ms. Marvel came out. I remember how many headlines she made and how many of my friends, some of whom were purely DC readers at the time, read Ms. Marvel. I hadn’t heard a single bad thing about the book, and once I read it, I learned why. Ms. Marvel was so beloved that it didn’t shock me that the MCU wanted to adapt the property despite it being rather new comparatively. It was a moment in pop culture history and a breath of fresh air. And she can’t get a book with her name on it for her death?
No, death in comics is nothing new, but at least when Doctor Strange or Wolverine died they each got their own “Death of” events that built up to that moment and showcased them. Hell, even when Ultimate Peter Parker died, he was front and center of his own cover and in his own book, which is more than Kamala is getting. Death of Doctor Strange miniseries…Death of Wolverine…Peter Parker’s “fallen friend.” Ms. Marvel dies in just another issue of Spider-Man, not even an event or anything with her own name on it. Just a Spider-Man issue.

Peter’s death issue had him front and center, a shadow looming over his loved ones who realize he’s no longer there and must live without him. Kamala’s cover has her in the upper righthand corner, amid a hero she’s never met (the Thing), one she barely knows (Steve), two of her mentors (Carol and Tony), and a hero she interacted with once (Wolverine), but the focus is on Peter Parker, the biggest subject on the image. This cover is just emblematic of how little everyone involved cared about this character and her legacy –she’s there to make Peter Parker sad. Peter’s pain is the focus of this story, and the reason she died was give him another thing to be sad about. Her death is meant to motivate Spider-Man and be another source of grief for the hero. But how many women have to die for Peter’s guilt complex?
Gwen Stacy died in June 1973, and Kamala’s death occurs 50 years later. Gwen’s death was certainly a vital component in why Zeb Wells and company decided to kill of Kamala now — and in a Spider-Man comic of all places. In his interview with Popverse about Amazing Spider-Man #26, Wells notes this death was “the most shocking event to happen to Spider-Man in 50 years.” Shock value was at the forefront for this story, and the way these creatives talked about killing Kamala feels eerily reminiscent of how writers have infamously talked about fridging characters in the past. Wells was laughing in his interview about how many people would be mad at him and when asked how editorial reacted, he’d mostly mentioned them being “shocked” but pleased. Wells replied, “Nick [Lowe]’s a mad man, so he was completely down…I’m very excited for people to read issue #26.”
In these comments, I’m reminded of how Gerry Conway killed Gwen Stacy all those years ago — the shock value death these men wanted to celebrate by killing off another woman in a way that was just as unexpected. Conway “grinned and explained” his idea behind killing Gwen, adding, “She and Peter are terrific together and make each other happy. But that’s not what Spider-Man is about. It’s about pain and power and the responsibility that comes with it. There’s nowhere to take the relationship without betraying what Spider-Man is about.”

Community Focus

As moderators we've seen this community grow quite a bit for the last few months! With this comes increased requests, more community engagement, and friendships.
One issue we want to address is the focus of our subreddit. As we think about the future, we want to make sure that we keep our requests and focus on romance books primarily, since the purpose of the subreddit is to discuss books in the romance genre. To do this, we'll be creating an Erotica Requests weekly post, which will serve as a space for people requesting erotica and specific sex acts.
What is erotica?
To define erotica for our subreddit: A piece of fiction that focuses primarily on sex, where the plot is secondary and serves the sexual content within. Unlike in genre romances, in erotica a HEA/HFN is not required.
Some examples of this within the MM book community: Hedonist by Roe Horvat, HonoObey by DJ Heart, Taking the Knot by Sean Michael, Upending Tad by Kora Knight, and Knotted by the Wolf by Anna Wineheart.
A book having a lot of sex or having kink content does not make it inherently erotica -- what matters is whether the focus of the book is on the romantic relationship and getting to a HEA/HFN, or not. We realize the line may be blurry (especially with books labeled erotic romance) and we ask that people use their best judgment in the cases of recommendations.
What does it mean to make a request for a specific sex act?
"Request for specific sex act" means a request that can be read as "when the characters have sex, I want them to do X" and where that's the main thing the requester is asking for.
This would not include something like a general request that the book contain explicit sex, for example. It isn't meant to sweep in any request that mentions sex, just requests where the point is to find a specific type of sex scene.
Why make this change?
Our subreddit has always welcomed discussion and recommendation of erotica, kink, and taboo content. The purpose of the new post isn't to say that erotica content is "less than" romance or that it's unwanted here, but just to make it easier to know if you're requesting or recommending erotica (which, as mentioned above, doesn't always have a happy ending or feel like romance), since lots of book requests for romance wouldn't really be satisfied by an erotica recommendation, and vice versa.
Additionally, requests for specific sex acts come up pretty frequently, and many of them are so specific that there aren't many books that fit. A lot of these also wind up being repeats, and any time something is a repeat, people are less likely to reply to it. Putting these requests into their own weekly post where they don't have to be as specific or unique as a standalone request should help people to find what they're looking for, and will hopefully help people get more replies.
We're also hoping that having this new post will help people who are primarily interested in requesting and recommending erotica or specific sex acts know where to look. If you're an erotica-focused reader, a lot of the posts in the subreddit won't be what you're looking for, so you might not visit the subreddit as often and could miss some good stuff. With the new weekly post, you'll know exactly when to check the subreddit for the content that interests you.
This is similar to how we have scheduled posts for queer fiction and other MM media (though the Erotica Requests post will be weekly instead of monthly).
These changes do not mean that you can't recommend erotica, that kink romance books aren't allowed, or that this community is veering away from discussion of NSFW content. Instead, we are hoping this will create a curated space for erotica where erotica lovers can find the books they want, and will make it clearer when requests and recommendations are for erotica vs. genre romance.

New Weekly Post and New Rule

This change will be implemented in the form of a new rule (rule 11) and a new weekly post.
The first Erotica Requests post will go up next Thursday, June 8.

Hi! I just purchased an Aquila X2 with H32 board the previous week. Simply loving it so far. I've already used half a kilo of PLA and no bad prints on stock, thanks to the information provided in this sub and the sticky post.
I have a question about proper bed leveling using the knobs with CR touch and Alex' firmware. So I'll start with that, and share my experience and tips with other new Aquila X2 H32 users further in this post.
Bed leveling question
I don't know if I'm correct, but CR touch feels like a correction for bed warping and improper manual bed leveling through the knobs. Therefore, proper manual bed leveling is still important, but you don't have to do this frequently anymore because CR touch can correct for this.
How can I manually realign my bed manually with the knobs in Alex' firmware? Cause I want to do that 'the stock way'. With stock, it would home using the Z-axis end stop sensor. From there, I just re-calibrate the bed using the A4 paper method. That way I can keep my the springs / silicone bed spacers in the proper working range. But with Alex' firmware, homing the Z-axis would depend on the CR touch sensor and whatever inproper calibration was done to the bed.
Sharing my experience with other new Aquila X2 H32 users
Since everything went well, I've already bought and applied some upgrades after a week of usage. I noticed I needed to calibrate my bed after every print, so I bought the official Creality CR Touch module and silicone bed springs. On recommendation of this sub, I also bought the Creality metal extruder upgrade kit because this part seems to have a high failure rate. I picked the upgrade kit which also included the Capricorn bowden tube, since I want to print with other materials soon with higher temps.
Although the sticky post provided great information for the stock machine, it did lack some information about the upgrades everybody recommends here. At least in text form. I hate watching 15 minute YouTube videos for an answer that could be written in two sentences.
My first and only failed print was after replacing the bowden tube. It failed the PLA extrusion mid print. The tube was probably too long since both ends were cut perfectly round. The stock tube is 40 cm. My tube was cut at 50 cm with the idea to leave some spare to cut off when needed (e.g. the hot-end side of the tube). I had no problems anymore after cutting the tube length back to 40 cm.
When replacing the extruder, my tip would be not to tighten down the extruder gear attached the servo during the assembly process. This should be your last step so you can align the gear with the filament guiding bearing.
Another thing what bothered me is is firmware upgrade process. Yet another long YouTube video. The firmware upgrade is needed for the CR Touch upgrade. The official firmware for auto leveling (Aqulia X2 H32 BLtouch Firmware V5.3.3) sucks. Its unstable and freezed mid print. Therefore I switched to Alex firmware. Although not supported anymore, I love the stock Aquila X2 (non CBL Touch) firmware. Alex firmware is based on the source code of the latest official Aquila X2 H32 V5.1.8 firmware.
With the official Creality CR Touch upgrade, manual calibrate your printer bed and print a mount first before installing the upgrade. The included mounts are not compatible with the Aquila X2. I've printed this mount with X-axis tab. If you want to use the supplied bolts, use a M3 tap for the holes. You can also your own M3 bolts and nuts without a tap. Install the CR Touch upgrade. The CR Touch cable will fit easily through the bigger cable sleeve if you undo all tie-wraps. When accessing the H32 board, route and cable manage the cable around the board to not obstruct the fan.
I think it's good the know that lowest point of the CR Touch sensor lies higher than the nozzle. But the metal pin of the CR Touch will elongate itself when activated so you don't have to worry.
Here's a quick manual text written manual to flash Alex' firmware for tech-savvy users. If you need a step-by-step guide, please watch the videos. The mentioned downloads are the latest available versions. It will probably stay this way since these downloads are not supported by Alex anymore.
After this your printer is ready to be calibrated with the CR Touch module. It's quite easy. I don't know it's significant or necessary, but I did preheat everything to account for thermal warping.
  1. From the main menu, go to prepare.
  2. Go to preheat.
  3. Choose PLA.
  4. Wait till everything is preheated.
  5. From the main menu, go to leveling.
  6. Check leveling active.
  7. Go to create new mesh.
  8. Choose confirm to save the mesh.
If there's a huge discrepancy between each measuring points, please level your bed using the knobs (and I have a question about that, see later this post). Open the mesh viewer to view this data.

  3. Check viewer show values.
  4. Go to mesh viewer.
I don't understand why people here are sometimes asking for Z-offset values. I think that's completely wrong to ask, right? This value is completly specific for each individual printer.
  1. From the main menu, go to prepare.
  2. Go to Z-offset.
  3. Choose home Z-axis.
  4. Check live adjustments.
  5. Get a piece of typical 80 g/m² A4 paper and place it between the nozzle and bed.
  6. Increase / decrease the Z-offset value. The perfect value is the value where there is some slight resistance moving the A4 paper. A microstep up would result in the A4 paper moving freely. Please note you have a few options to move the Z-axis. With microstep up, microstep down and setting a Z-offset value. Please note for the latter you have to push (confirm) the knob to apply the Z-offset value for live adjustments to work.
The next thing for me is PETG printing or OctoPrint. Thanks again for the resources!

I've seen some posts recently discussing anti-poc and specifically anti black sentiment in the sub, and, coincidentally, I wrote up a piece on it yesterday while doing a character study for Grace. This is by no means a complete conversation as, like I said, this post beyond what I'm writing here is lifted from an essay on Grace, but I feel like it's a good place to start a deeper conversation.
Disclaimers: I'm a black, feminine-presenting AFAB and I'm speaking from that experience, but by no means am I a master of words or the most educated on this topic. I'm not calling you, the reader, a racist and I'm not saying this sub is racist, even if I may use the general 'you' or 'yall' when speaking about racist actions. It's important to have honest discussions about things like racism, misogynoir, and unconscious bias, but I understand some people are not capable of doing so right now. If it's genuinely triggering, I understand completely, but if it's just something that makes you uncomfortable to read about I would encourage you to give it a read anyway, as people like me can't just shy away from racism when it makes us uncomfortable.
Is Fusebox making you racist? No. However, since season one there's been an unconscious bias against black women that's been perpetuated by Fusebox throughout other seasons.
Erikah, the only black woman in the entire first season, was your best friend that got jealous of you and went behind your back to ruin your relationship. In season two you have Hope as the token black woman, and from the start she's very territorial with Noah and hypocritical in certain actions, i.e not letting Noah look at other women while calling the Casa boys eye candy. Season three switched it up by making it Elladine, a white girl, who was keeping Nicky in a couple instead of their TBW Viv, but she did go on to assure Seb stayed unavailable to MC at the end of the season. Season four had three black women, but Thabi was the reason Hazeem didn't give MC a chance and why Will was unavailable for most of the season. We all know about Dana and Arlo and how much they sucked but that might have just been the whole season's fault, now we have season six, TBW Grace keeping Ozzy away from MC for however long.
Yes everyone also hated Lottie and Lexi, but that's not what this is about, and if it was I could point out how the aggression shown toward these two white women and the aggression shown toward Hope is so very different, so much more gentle and playful for people like Lexi. Fusebox consistently makes black women snakes or the reason you can't have the relationship you want, and because black women are featured less than white women it's a larger percentage of characters within that statistic so that's the conversation we're having.
Where does misogyny come in? Because, until clingy creep Suresh (the fact he's POC is of note), when has it ever been a male islander who was the possessive, watchful one who didn't let the object of their desire talk to others? When was the male islander the one complaining and making snide comments all season? Maybe Miles/Jasper, but I don't think he was awful until after linking up with Allegra, and Eddie/Nicholas/Johnny were all laughably cartoonish attempts. That being said, where's the continued hate for them? The ongoing posts and comments saying how awful Miles is, how Johnny was so manipulative? They don't get the same amount of negative attention as the women do. I understand that we're playing a heteronormative game as a woman so it makes sense for there to be a woman villain, but where's the depth in those characters? Lottie didn't have a character arch or development, her whole personality trait was 'bitch'. Lexi was a knock-off Regina George. Hope never learned to loosen up in her relationship and overcome her insecurities. These women are the villains and that's all Fusebox will let them be.
Misogynoir is the cross-street of sexism, in this instance misogyny, and racism experienced by black women and female-presenting persons. The Oxford definition is 'dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against black women'. Fusebox, in my personal opinion, is guilty of misogynoir as well as general unconscious bias, but I wouldn't feel comfortable calling the company racist.
Because of the large percentage of black women who are made to be disliked and this sub's love of mean-girl culture, aka 'dragging' and 'roasting', it's easy to find over-the-top negative posts about these characters. It's easy read a post that bashed Hope like she killed OP's mother and see it as misogynoir, especially if you're in this sub as a black woman who has been villainized for the same behaviors as your white counterparts. Fusebox's unconscious misogynoir has it's fingers in this sub and many of the posts hating on specifically Hope but black women in general not because the people making the posts are misogynistic racists, but because we're all engaging in content made by a company with an unconscious bias that has then been passed onto us.
Are you racist for disliking Grace? No. Are you racist for disliking Hope or Erikah? No. Are you racist if you liked Lexi but hated Thabi? No. Are you racist because you made a post dragging Grace's Daisy Duck ass shoes? No. Are you racist because you want to get with Ozzy so you dislike Grace for being in the way? No. Are you racist because Fusebox's bias has negatively affected your perception of this character who happens to be a black woman? Maybe, it depends on the circumstances. You're racist if you hate someone or discriminate against them because of their race. You can hate someone for a legitimate reason while still being racist, if you have a prioritized list of one hundred reasons to hate someone and the color of their skin is the last on the list, the fact that it's on the list at all is racist.
Conversely, you can have unconscious bias without being racist. To an extent we all have unconscious bias toward and against certain groups, realizing that bias exists and actively working against it is what matters. As a test, stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye, and ask yourself this question: Is Hope more aggressive, or is Lottie? Take some time to compare and contrast, go back and replay the season if you need to. Does Hope really deserve hate more than Lottie or Lexi? Does Hope deserve more hate than Noah? If you think Grace is possessive and clingy, take a look back at all the interactions MC has had with her, with Ozzy, and ask yourself why. Do you really think she's possessive and clingy, or are you just comparing her to Hope? And if you are comparing her to Hope, let me ask you this: is Grace more similar to Hope, or is she more similar to Elladine?
In short, I see a lot of misogynoir in this sub specifically as it pertains to Hope, but it's permeating the seasons and latching onto other black women. I don't think 99.99% of the negative posts and the people on this sub intend to be racist or misogynistic, that's where unconscious bias and internalization comes in. We need to recognize this unconscious bias toward white characters, white women specifically, and actively work to undo it, but until we can discuss the fact that internalized bias exists and is thriving within this sub we will make no progress toward doing that.

2023.06.03 14:51 DARTH-TRAP AITJ FOR NOT GIVING ENTITLED KAREN MY XBOX?

TL;DR. Bit of backstory earlier this month I (22 male) bought a Xbox Series X to help keep my niece and nephew separated because they don't like sharing anyway I woke up one morning and downloaded a game they like each and I walked away for a couple of minutes and come back. When I get back the Xbox is powered off and I'm like super confused so I tried turning it back on only for it to keep turning it self off.
Anyway I call the store where I bought it from and they tell me to bring it in so I do just that and I'm pretty well known at the store I walk in the bloke spots and calls out "Red" (my nickname) I walk up and he asks what brought me in I tell him the issue and since it was under warranty they replaced it for me and it was the last one that they had.
So I'm about to leave the store then this is where the Karen, her little hell spawn and poor poor husband walk in and ask for a Xbox series X and the worker says no they just ran out of stock and that's where the drama began.
The Karen walks up to me and asks in a fake nice voice "excuse me young man how much for the Xbox"? I said "it's not for sale" then she said in a entitled voice "I'll pay you $500 for it" and that's when I realised I'm dealing with a mythical creature known as the Karen so I'm like "No I'm not selling you a console for $500 when I paid $750 for the one it replaced".
Anyway then the hell spawn decided to put his 2 cents in "Mommy you promised you'd get Xbox" and the Karen is like "I will sweetie when this young man decides to sell it" then I said "You've got yours and Buckley's chance of getting this from me" and this witch looks like she's about to blow a fuse cause she didn't expect me to talk back I was raised by my mum and old man not to let anyone walk over me.
So she keeps ranting about wanting to buy my Xbox and I'm looking at this thing (the Karen) like somebody get this Sheila some help then a police officer walks up and asks what's the problem here and I tell him and the Karen accuses me of stealing it from her and I kid you not I turned into Dio from JoJo's Bizarre adventure I was like "NANI"!
The police officer asks if she can prove it and she says "no" in that entitled voice then I say I can prove it's mine and show him the receipt he looks it over and I show him my ID to match and he hands back the receipt along with my ID and I ask "can I go now mate"? He's like sure.
As I'm leaving the husband comes up to me and apologises for his wife and hell spwans actions now I'm not a religious man but this poor guy is a angel sent by God or a saint at least having to deal with his wife's shenanigans I told him he had nothing to apologise for and I went on with my day. So AITJ?

2023.06.03 14:48 Adam-EcoCore One DVD that won't rip - no errors, superquick, creates 5kb file

I'm using Handbrake regularly on a Linux Mint machine and just ripped 10 DVDs, but the last one fails.
I've cleaned the DVD and there are no major scratches on it.
I've loaded it up and started watching a bit and it seems fine.
When I try to rip it in Handbrake, first of all it takes quite a lot longer than normal for Handbrake to scan all the titles.
If I chose the correct title to rip, I leave off any subtitles and set it going, it scans very quickly and announces that it's done, despite the title having 2 hrs 15 mins 50 secs.
The resulting file is 5kb.
There are no errors.
I can rip other titles off the DVD OK, but just not the feature film.

2023.06.03 14:45 haberdashcollect The Abridged History of Hololive Ver. 2

The Previous Version
While I was writing the regular State of VTuber World post, I wrote a massive tangent detailing Hololive's history, and decided it would be much better done as a separate post.
I was actually going to overwrite the previous version, but the previous version is too... old, so I thought I would just write a new one. Hopefully I'll update this in September, which would be the end of the current period, and then probably put out Ver. 3 a long time after, if that ever happens.
The history of Hololive are split into 9-ish month chunks.

Part 1 - Pre-History {17-09-07 - 18-06-01}

When Tokino Sora first went on NicoNico in the auspicious day of September 7, 2017, there were famously 13 viewers unaccounted for in her debut stream. VTuber as a modern concept started ten months ago with the advent of Kizuna Ai on December 1, and at that point VTubers as a concept was seriously considered a dead end. The Ai's initial hype train died down and newcomers such as Siro did not gain the success that people were hoping for. Many suspect this VTuber fad was going to be consigned into the dustbin of history much like disco and leg warmers.
So, Sora did not start with the most fortuitous occasions. But the luck for VTuber and Sora turned around as Kaguya Luna became the new hit star and ushered in a kind of Cambrian Explosion of VTuber at the time. One of the bigger innovations was that Luna frequently mentioned other VTubers, she coined the term Oyabun for Kizuna Ai, and therefore there was a genuine sense of community building around this newfangled tech. Hololive App went online of December 21, 2017.
Sora was one of the bigger beneficiaries as she was redirected by Siro after her Christmas stream failed to work. Sora started to gain subscribers at a pretty good clip at that point. Sora is sometimes mentioned as one of the secondary heavenly kings along with Fuji Aoi, her close friend to this day.
Cover debuted their second talent, Roboco-san, on March 4, 2018. Roboco was the demo model for the Hololive app, similar to the beginnings of Nijisanji with 1st Gen's model also being a demo. Nijisanji was and is and will be a foil to Hololive. They both started as an app but quickly pivoted to the entertainment industry. Nijisanji's 1st Gen was a revolution - and singlehandedly shifted the meta in a way that will never be done before. And Nijisanji were pumping out great talents every month or so, flooding the market, which further threatened the other companies.
Nijisanji prompted fierce response from the competitor. AppLand, the company responsible for Siro, decided to debut 9 new talents that will operate on a strict weekly schedule, and this approach worked very well. Cover had to respond in turn, and so they quickly debuted 6 new talents, first being Yozora Mel who debuted on May 13, 2018.

Part 2 - Early Classical Era {18-06-01 - 19-04-01}

Note this version will not be delving too deeply into the individual members, as they are nicely detailed in Version One. If you want to know what the talents in the agency are all about, then check the previous version which is the top link. This version mostly expands and clarifies things.
First Gen of Hololive - Aki Rosenthal, Natsuiro Matsuri, Shirakami Fubuki - debuted on June 1, 2018 with Akai Haato debuting a week later because she had some tech issues. There was one other person but we do not talk about this person, she basically bribed her way into debut, and after that incident Yozora Mel was folded into this 1st Gen. A recent observation - there is a hidden theme in early VTuber groups, for example Re:AcT was originally called Kageyaki Stars and their talents all had a Zodiac theme, Leona being the Leo, of course, and Kyo being... a virgin? Not sure, actually. This Gen also has a theme, reference much later in the title for their song Plasmagic Seasons, which is of course the Seasons - Akai Haato as Spring, Natsuiro Matsuri as Summer, Aki Rosenthal as Fall, and Shirakami Fubuki as Winter. That extra person really did not fit, especially with the above theme.
Second Gen of Hololive quickly followed, the debut was more spaced out this time. Minato Aqua went first on August 8, 2018, followed by Murasaki Shion on August 17, 2018, Nakiri Ayame was next on September 3, 2018, followed by Yuzuki Choco on September 4, 2018, and Oozora Subaru rounding out the crew debuting on September 14, 2018. Around the same time, on August 1, 2018, another Cover Project launched called Sakura Miko project, which was a return of Kizuna Ai style content.
This odd collection signifies the attitudes of this time, no one really knew what they were doing. There were not many collabs, in fact Hololive members tended to collab with Nijisanji members more than their own members, and many kind of considered Hololive to be kind of a sister group to Nijisanji. Again, the contents were kind of halfway between video and streams, there weren't really long streams, those that did famously Kanae and Korone, were seen as odd outliers. There were a lot of odd and interesting VTuber-industry projects - a fun thing is to watch PL's of future talents interacting with their future workmates, which is obscenely entertaining in some respects.
Sakura Miko project immediately crashed and burned and Miko joined Hololive proper on December 25, 2018. On November 15, AZKi debuted as a part of a collaboration with Cover and upd8, another agency that was progenitor of Kizuna Ai. upd8 ran things differently, it was a 'talent' agency and not a creative one, which meant upd8 did not hold onto any assets of livers. upd8 had a hodgepodge of creators, including one half of 774 inc., which meant AZKi, Inaba Haneru, Patra Suou and Kizuna Ai were technically part of the same agency at this point in November 2018. Oh Shibuya Hal and Utai Meika was also part of this group. Yep, upd8 was a mess, had potential though.
On December 12, 2018, Ookami Mio joined Hololive as part of a new project called Hololive GAMERS, and unlike their other projects GAMERS actually grew a few months later.

Part 3 - Late Classical Era {19-04-01 - 19-12-27}

Okayu and Korone were announced on April Fools 2019 and subsequently Nekomata Okayu debuted April 6, 2019 and Inugami Korone on April 13, 2019. Korone's stream was so scuffed that it became the anti-basis for future debut streams. But the GAMERS basically set the tone of Hololive as a company. GAMERS were basically scouted as Fubuki's friends, and therefore GAMERS were the first generations that felt like a group of friends. Most, if not all, relationships between people grew from this seed.
They still regularly collabed with Nijisanji at that point. One can go through what is now seemingly bizarre combos - Higuchi Kaede and Roboco, Nakiri Ayame and Inui Toko, and so on... although few still persist to this day, Kamioka Family and its extension NASS and Oozora Family being the two...
But this was the time that Hololive kind of found the identity that we were kind of familiar with. This was also the time that idolization was slowly making its way through the company. The well-remember first Hololive Summer (which was, and still is, a Comiket associated project) was the first time Shiny Smily Story was introduced with the full song being released on September 17, 2019, which led to Hololive 1stFes or Nonstop Story on January 28, 2020.
Hololive extended the relationship with upd8 regarding AZKi to be Innoaka Music and they eventually snagged an indie VTuber named Hoshimachi Suisei, who has been active since March 22, 2018, during the height of the First Boom, announcing this new venture on May 19, 2019. Hoshimachi Suisei was frustrated with the arrangement and joined Hololive proper on December 1, 2019. The inclusion date is more mutely celebrated but their growth more closely tracks with the counterparts who debuting around their inclusion - so in some sense, we should think of Miko as an honorary member of GAMERS and Suisei as a honorary member of HoloForce, which considering her early relationship with Kanata and Coco, might as well be true from a different perspective.
Another push regarding this idolization was the opening of a male branch called Holostars. First talents started appearing in June, with Hanasaki Miyabi on June 8, 2019, Kagami Kira on June 9, 2019, Kanade Izuru on June 22, 2019.
Hololive also started to look beyond Japan, which was largely locked by the immense success of Nijisanji, and Hololive looked towards China. Around late winter and early spring of 2019, Hololive member started to stream quite a bit in BiliBili and started to take in a lot of Chinese sponsors, culminating in the Azur Lane event, which was one of the seeds for their future in North America - indeed many of the early English clippers were Chinese...
It was at this point that Hololive went looking for its third Gen, which had a fantasy theme - Usada Pekora debuted on July 17, 2019, Uruha Rushia on July 18, 2019, Shiranui Flare on August 7, 2019, Shirogane Noel on August 8, 2019, and Houshou Marine on August 11, 2019.
Many consider this group to be the miracle group, but they were kind of isolated for the first few months, many of their streams consisting of group Minecraft sessions. It was a friendship forged from pressure, not a loose one like GAMERS, and it gave a different feeling than the rest. Even today, there is an odd break between 3rd Gen and the gens higher up, except for a couple important exceptions like Aqua-Marine, or Marine in general. Subaru-Noel came out much later, and before that it was actually Rushia-Subaru.
Azur Lane event was on November 26, 2019. During this time, Hololive also opened their ill-fated Chinese branch with Yogiri debuting on September 28, 2019, Civia on November 2, 2019, and Spade Echo on January 30, 2020.
There was kind of an add-on group with Takushiji Suzaku debuting on September 7, 2019, and Arurandeisu on September 8, 2019. Suzaku apparently was really fed up with how Holostars worked so he left early on March 6, 2020. Second Gen followed with Rikkaroid debuting on October 20, 2019, and Astel Leda debuting on December 7, 2019, Kishido Temma on December 14, 2019, and Yukoku Roberu on December 24, 2019. Note this division feels wildly off, with the intra-gen gap being larger than the inter-gen gap. Perhaps this is one of the reasons the first three gens are usually grouped into one super group.
This nicely segues to our next section...

Part 3 - Early Golden Era {19-12-27 - 20-09-12}

HoloForce, as they are rarely called, were truly a force. Amane Kanata debuted on December 27, 2019, Kiryu Coco followed on December 28, 2019, Tsunomaki Watame on December 29, 2019, and after new years, Tokoyami Towa on January 3, 2020 and Himemori Luna on January 4, 2020. Kiryu Coco was an instant hit, growing at a rate seldom seen before.
Spearheaded by this new leader, Hololive slowly gain prominence right as the pandemic hit and the Second Boom occurred as Western anime fans looked to VTuber as a replacement for all the delayed anime releases. Hololive was well positioned to take on this second boom, as there were more clips from Hololive... even though Nijisanji pursued a Chinese audiences like Hololive, the Nijisanji clippers were usually Japanese students and therefore preferred longer clips, while Hololive clippers were people bred from things like TikTok and they truly clipped like a fame-chasing clipper would, short condensation of the streamer's character. A very easy and addicting introduction.
There was also the fact that Cover knew their western outreach and also saw the success of people like Hana Macchia, and they decided to slowly branch out to Western audiences, starting with Indonesia, which was also a safe second options since the days of AKB48.
Area15 debuted April 10, 2020 for Ayunda Risu, April 11, 2020 for Moona Hoshinova, and April 12, 2020 for Airani Iofifteen. While their growth was paltry compared to their JP counterparts, they were on the higher side compared to their ID peers, so Cover saw the green light to go ahead and continue developing an western EN branch.
Also Hololive China debuted their 2nd Gen with Doris debuting on April 3, 2020, Rosalyn debuting on April 5, 2020, and Artia debuting on April 11, 2020. Holostar 3rd Gen also debut around this time with Tsukishita Kaoru debuting on April 29, 2020, Kageyama Shien on April 30, 2020, and Aragami Oga on May 1, 2020.
Those three groups tended to stick together, which HoloID had a close relationship with Holostars which would turn out to be fruitful much later in the process.
Hololive started to gain its rapid growth, and as with all rapid growth, there were some growing pains, a large numbers of archives had to be taken down due to increase in copyright notices and Hololive increasingly became isolated from the VTuber world as a whole.
Also, pretty much the rest of HoloForce was struggling. Towa's low voice and her boyfriend fracas, happening since the idol concept has been firmly placed and heavily sold to western audiences, meant Towa lost pretty much all momentum. Watame had her infamous kuso internet which she famously did not apologize for, therefore forever becoming blameless. Luna was a controversial choice as she was a former Nijisanji Liver and kind of known as a vagabond, jumping from agency to agency, but thankfully she found her home in Hololive.
Kanata, even though her hearing was going, managed to stand with a budding relationship with Coco and furthered her relationship with Suisei, who she knew from way before.
Except for Coco, this was a quiet time. Many of the talents were on rest, like Mel or Akirose, which is one of the main reasons they are so far behind, and there was less outside appearance as the company simply tried to wade through their newfound fame.
HoloFive eventually appeared - Yukihana Lamy on August 12, 2020, Momosuzu Nene on August 13, 2020, Shishiro Botan on August 14, 2020, Mano Aloe on August 15, 2020, and Omaru Polka on August 16, 2020. Mano Aloe were swept in a huge scandal and prompt graduated at the end of the month. Considering HoloFive had a long gestation period, even this short stint was a shock to many. Truth be told, Aloe was not in a great mental state, she later attempted suicide falling down several stories, only to be saved by a tree.
There are still people who like to imagine a world with Aloe, but I wonder of a world where the person behind Aloe was swapped with someone from HoloX. Aloe would have been fine by late 2021, and many of the talents from HoloX would have been more than adequate in August of 2020. I think the best switch would be with Chloe.
Even though technically in the next era, Haato-Coco Taiwan Incident would be the final of the three major controversies that rocked Cover as they restructured. Taiwan Incident basically killed off all chances of development in China, along with a separate fiasco that led to the closure of HoloCN with all six members quietly disappearing by the end of 2020.
With all these controversies, Hololive could have gone down in flames, but there was a saving grace or really multiple saving grace that effectively created a shift and an opportunity.

Part 4 - Late Golden Era {20-09-12 - 21-07-01}

HoloMyth arrived on September 12, 2020 for Mori Calliope, Takanashi Kiara and September 13, 2020 for Ninomae Ina'ins, Gawr Gura and Amelia Watson. They were another of the 'perfect' groups, a heaven-sent in the time of multiple disasters.
The minecraft server, largely dormant since the beginning of 2020, reopened with the introduction of Gen 5 and continued when Area15 were introduced, with Moona Hoshinova pretty much alighting the Company Rivalry Arc which became the basis for the modern dynamic of Hololive as we know today. The fame of Area15 skyrocketed, the combo of Risu's first NNN and her KING cover didn't detract from that fame at all either...
And their newfound dominance in ID was sealed with the debut of HoloRo - Kureiji Ollie on December 4, 2020, Anya Melfissa on December 5, 2020, and Pavolia Reine on December 6, 2020. Once again, they were heavily focused on outreach with Ollie being the breakout star which sapped any remaining momentum NijiID had, leading to their long and terminal decline for the next three years at least.
Those early months of 2021, defined by the time between Hololive 2nd Fes, Beyond the Stage, and Bloom, Hololive's first original concert, was in my humble opinion, the greatest time in Hololive. The development of the Company Rivalry Arc with the first extended interaction of MiComet, one of the most enduring duos in Hololive much to the chagrin of Nousagis and Heimins. The 2021 Mario Kart Tournament, which brought Towa into prominence and showcased that Hololive can pull off a tournament, one of the major strengths of Nijisanji and the Bouquet album's relative success, especially with the opening song Blue Clapper was instrumental in Hololive becoming a reliable music producer, which left Innonaka without an identity leading to AZKi eventually joining Hololive proper in April 1, 2022.
Another development was the introduction of Hololive Alternative, which was marked by two PVs, first of which debuted on May 5, 2021 with a teaser right after Bloom.
Days after Bloom however were colored by one event, which marks the finality in this era. There hasn't a large graduation - Holostars lost two members Tsukishita Kaoru on July 28, 2020 and Kagami Kira on November 30, 2020... but it was a quiet one, most might only recognize those graduations because of the downed spirit of HoloID at the time. But the graduation to come was the big one - probably the biggest one until Kizuna Ai's hiatus and many would argue even still then, as the age of Kiryu Coco came to close.
The announcement was on June 9, but in hindsight the signs were there since the beginnings of the Hololive Summer Festival, which also marks the start of the end of the Company Arc. The later half of this era felt like a barrel racing towards that final moment. Most watched stream in VTuber stream, probably unlikely to be broken for a long time.
Coco was instrumental in steering the talent's directions, especially in turbulent times such as the year and half in which Coco existed on our screens. Without that sail, Cover and their talents had to go on their own and face whatever demons it may raise...

Part 5 - The Transition Era {21-07-01 - 22-03-20}

Hololive was chugging around after the graduation with 3D Live happening almost every other day during August... and also quite a lot of debuts from the EN side.
IRyS debuted on July 8, 2021. She was supposed to be part of a JP/EN collab VSinger group that were probably going to debut in Spring if there were enough applicants, but they were only able to fish one, and she came down (three times) to grace our screens and a month later on August 22, 2021, HoloCouncil made their debut - Tsukumo Sana, Ceres Fauna, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei, and Hakos Baelz. Less perfect than HoloMyth but still good, and very helpful as there was a Minecraft merger happening. As I explained above, Hololive had a hard time integrating their new members. For the longest time, I had a hard time differentiating 5th Gen because they would just hang out together and rarely with senpais, but the merger and the eagerness of HoloMyth to get fresh blood led one of the smoothest integrations.
This continued with HoloX - La+ Darknesss on November 26, 2021, Takane Lui on November 27, 2021, Hakui Koyori on November 28, 2021, Sakamata Chloe on November 29, 2021, and Kazama Iroha on November 30, 2021. My impression of them was shock, as with many, not only were given only a few hours notice, but it happened right after the infamous 3rd Gen Live. The relative failure of that live and the death of her beloved cat started a decline for one Uruha Rushia, whose aberrant behavior will eventually blow up three weeks before 3rdFes.
Rushia's termination also felt like a barrelling moment in hindsight, but I did not end this era on February 24, 2022, but on the 2nd Day of 3rd Fes, because I want to end on a high note and the 3D debuts of Area 15 and HoloMyth more than enough made up for the sudden loss and confusion of Uruha Rushia. While Rushia left on quite a sour note, Rushia still gets fondly remembered, especially by talents like Pekora and Fubuki... it's interesting.
I should also mention taht 3rd Fes, Link Your Wish, was first to be accompanied by an Expo, which was first done by Nijisanji back in early 2020, right before the pandemic.

Part 6 - Early Modern Era {22-03-20 - 22-12-31}

End of 3rd Fes led to two debuts - first HoloH3roes with Vestia Zeta on March 27, 2022, Kaela Kovalskia on March 28, 2022, and Kobo Kanaeru on March 29, 2022, followed by Holostar's UPROAR with Yatogami Fuma and Utsugi Uyu debuting on March 29, 2022 and Hizaki Gamma and Minase Rio debuting on March 30, 2022.
The focus for these groups was a change, HoloID now looking inwards back towards Indonesia, marking the rise of homegrown groups like AKA Virtual, and Holostar's idolfication including the de-aging of Aruran. This was followed by a quiet but long integration of Hololive and Holostar, an informal but still significant, which culminates in the year-end concert.
There were quite a lot of concerts in this era, 2nd PV which was on June 11, 2022, the return of Hololive Summer along with the regular spate of summer celebration concerts, there was a kind of fatigue and there was no new debut in sight, at least for a while...
Tempus HQ was quite a turning point - Regisa Altare and Magni Dezmond debuted on July 22, 2022 and Axel Syrios and Noir Vesper debuted on July 23, 2022. Not only did it accelerated the interaction between Hololive and Holostars, but also the EN branches of Hololive and Nijisanji as well, which was a long time coming, considering it was over a year since NijiEN debuted.
Along with Tsukumo Sana's graduation on July 31, 2022, things kind of took a back seat in the fall season as the long preparation for 4th Fes was underway. There was a lull that was unfamiliar since the beginning of 2020 - a nice bookend to the EN boom, which was rapidly fading at this point. In hindsight, it was an appreciative one, or so I think at least.
There was one incredibly bright light and that was Kobo Kanaeru, who along with Hyakumantenbara Salome, was the biggest beneficiary of the Third General Boom, caused the end of COVID restrictions for most of the world. The third Boom was less significant than the first two, but it saw the surge of strong local ID and KR groups along with renewed interest in Japan, which benefitted both Hololive and Nijisanji.
Kobo's obstinately Indonesian nature gave me worry as for integration but I wasn't to be worried because Kobo has quite a sharp wit behind her genuinely childish behavior. Kobo will be remembered for her various connections reaching across all branches, pretty much.

Part 7 - Late Modern Era {22-12-31 - 23-09-??}

The year-end concert served as a teaser for Our Bright Parade, which happened on March 18 and March 19, 2023. There was also an extension for Hololive Tempus, with its VG division - Gavis Bettel and Machina X Flayon debuting on January 7, 2023 and Banzoin Hakka and Josuiji Shinri debuting January 8, 2023. It was an understandable yet odd debut and I think VG was one of the most 'Nijisanji' groups in Hololive I have ever seen.
This was good grounds for Kobo. After Our Bright Parade, there was both a lull and an uptick. There was a lot happening - a new studio and an amusement park takeover - but a strange lack of debuts from any branches. One of the longest lack of such, I believe ever.
This might change soon, however, and that's where all our story has to end. I will fill in the rest of the story at the end of this period. And hopefully, I can come back to fill in the next era.

Some female goats may develop a small tuft of longer hair on their chin and throat area 2. goats, both male and female have horns, but male goat horns are larger and more robust, while the horns of a female goat can be shorter and more straight shaped.
Behavioral cues of the One piece goat are: obedience, polite, confortable around stressful environment . the goat seems to have an young body, but mature mind. Perhaps the bell around its neck is allowed due to high self-control.
Queen Lily is of high status as she was a former or retired queen, which is intriguing the goat is seen with the retired fleet admiral, Sengoku. Perhaps the braided beard of the the retired admiral is a nostalgic resemblence of queen lily's many hair styles.

Example: In the last two months or so, I’ve been questioned a half dozen times in public as to why I’m drinking Bud Light. Seems people like Bass have objected to Anheuser Busch’s marketing partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Their boycott of Bud Light has led to a decrease in sales both locally and nationally. (Local bar and restaurant owners say Bud Light sales are down almost 30 percent.)
​
It is their right, of course, to boycott the product. I’m just curious as to why what I’m drinking is their business. I drink Bud Light because I like it. And I’m still drinking Bud Light because I will not marginalize people based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. I’m respectful enough to support someone else’s desire to evolve into another gender. And I’m not stupid enough to believe that my decision to drink Bud Light changes who I am or what I stand for in any possible way.
​
But I wonder why it’s so important for people — and the questions to me haven’t all come from men — to announce their disdain for a bottle of beer, tacitly implying their sexuality is “normal.” Remember this one and write it down: If you are truly comfortable with who you are, you needn’t announce anything to anyone.
​
And yet to further illustrate how screwed up this country really is, there’s this: Anheuser-Busch hasn’t merely been accused of alienating its traditional customer base with the partnership, but some LGBTQ+ campaigners have also criticized the company for not defending its ties with Mulvaney.
​
Amid all the finger-pointing and fear-fanning, the truth hides in the corner, too scared to emerge. The truth is that we are supposed to think critically, weigh evidence from both sides and then make up our own minds. Instead, we’ve become a country hell bent on legislating whatever cause we think is right and just, while burying the other side from all consideration.
​
It’s political tribalism. All or nothing. One side or the other. If you’re not in agreement with every morsel of the transgender movement, you are a snarling, hating, infidel. If you’re not in total agreement with Anthony Bass and his beliefs, you’re going to wither in hell.
​
But what if — and hold on to your ascots here — two conflicting positions can still be true? Example: What if I support Bud Light’s decision to use a transgender influencer, but also believe that transgender high school athletes belong in their own division?
​
I disagree with the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference’s policy complying with a state law that requires all high school students be treated according to their gender identity. We should consider a sports-centric law that acknowledges sports' unique challenges and accommodates the physical component for success that exists virtually nowhere else in society.
​
Sex discrimination in education, health care, housing and financial credit have no place in this country. But we must — must — realize and accept that sports require a physical component to succeed that calls for different guidelines.
​
Put it this way: Applying to a school or for health care, housing or financial credit requires no physical component to succeed. Sports require speed, strength and agility and do not fit under the same umbrella. And yet sports are routinely shoved into the same arguments about unfair treatment. Injustices get piled on for rhetorical usefulness, even though they're not applicable.
​
The male born composition has inherent physical advantages, rare exceptions noted. But in the aggregate, there are physiologic differences between biological males and females. I don’t believe writing that makes me transphobic. We should respect a person’s pronoun of choice. But that doesn't mean we have to blindly agree with claims that are not supported by science.
​
Yet that appears to be the new end game in this country. Blind agreement. Their side or yours. And here I sit, sipping my Bud Light, trying to figure out why so many of us act like the last three letters of Anthony Bass’ last name.

This article pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about the situation. Bud Light basically sent someone a can with her image celebrating a milestone. The fact it turned the beer into enemy number one doesn’t surprise me considering the vitriol that has become commonplace in our country. I have had plenty of private messages regarding a video I posted supporting a beer, and more importantly a human being. Most have been vehemently against my support of both and relish the chance to send me a screen shot of Bud Lights stock on a daily basis with a “Go woke, Go broke” ending. I believe much of the vitriol comes from news and talk radio which is why Spotify now fills my vehicle with music instead of talk. I ask everyone to limit their news intake to 30 minutes per day regardless of your party affiliation to center your life. Sometimes my radio will land on a “news station”, and I can feel my blood pressure rise as the most divisive topic of the day is being discussed with a majority of the facts not being considered. I am not recommending folks to ignore what’s happening in our world, but would point out that our country has survived many decades without the need for “up to the second” news reports. Most of the things we worry about will never happen and it seems our country is living in a constant state of fear which is certainly to blame for the vitriol. There will never be a point where everyone in the country will collectively say we are all happy with everything, but I still have a deep believe that with constructive conversations and true empathy we can get us close. When I get my boat in the water I would love to have an ice cold Bud Light while listening to my relaxing boat playlist, and of course talking with my favorite sports writer. This is even though like 2006, 2010 and 2014 they had to go through boycotts for this. And they did shrink back in response, but also came right back and didn’t move backwards for long.

Do people realize that Bud Light sent a pack of specially made cans with the person’s face on it and did a minute long or so bit released on like TicTok? It wasn’t some big nationwide PR campaign yet it rubbed someone the wrong way (or so they would like us to think) and it snowballed into this.

There is a whole market opening up to people that will only get their businesses off the ground (temporarily for a quick cash grab) by using these outrage tactics and capitalizing (literally) on impaired brains that as Mr. DiMauro correctly observed “Blind agreement. Their side or yours”

I think the cancel culture is terrible whatever your political party of choice is. Very sad that social media has done this to us. Thomas- as far as I knew and as far as I can tell Guinness is the most popular beer in Ireland holding a full 25% of the market share. Bud Light does not even show up in the top ten (https://www.beer100.com/best-selling-beers-ireland/) I think the guy was pulling your leg. Bud Light only became available in Ireland in 2020.

Hey everyone :)
So I have many situations in which people ask me what kind of books I read and I don't exactly lie about that but don't go into detail, either (most of the time I just say "romance" and for non-readers that's apparently enough, haha). Even if closer friends (mostly not big romance readers, too) ask me about my latest book choice or the tropes I like, I don't tell the whole "truth" and just say something about all sorts of romance, sometimes fm, sometimes mm, ... but I never explicitly talk about that for example I've just read a spicy alpha/omega or daddy romance or something along the way xD
I'm just not comfortable talking about stuff like that with people who don't read similar things. If I knew that the other person is a big romance reader, too, and maybe also reads similar things, I would love to talk about books but apparently I know no one who does. Not even my bf knows exactly what I read (but tbh he prefers video games over reading and doesn't ask that much).
So that being said, I am very curious about how open you guys are about your taste in books? Can someone understand me or am I just too uptight? Would love to hear some opinions on how open you guys are about your reading taste :)
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I am totally open about reading mm romances and buy some paperbacks, too - I mean the exact tropes that are probably kinky or not-so-common if you understand xD

Hi vets! My childhood puppy (Shih Tzu-Bichon mix, neutered male, 20 lbs) is about to turn 15 years old in July. He has no previous medical history, just some arthritis. He had his annual check-up recently and got a clean bill of health, except for a kidney UTI. He was taking antibiotics, but then he had a seizure two days ago and we’re all super freaked out. My parents took him to the vet immediately. The vet ran some tests and his heart and lungs are fine, but he still has kidney inflammation. We’re getting an appointment with the urologist in 1-2 weeks to try to figure out what’s going on. In the meantime, he’s recovering from anesthetic but is eating, sleeping, and generally seems okay. The only other really concerning symptom is that he started circling and pacing prior to the seizure. We’re aware that the other probable cause for a seizure is a brain tumor :( My parents are taking really good care of him, but I’m currently traveling (mostly for work, and a bit of vacation) on another continent. I’m scheduled to go back home and see my family in seven weeks, but I’m wondering if I should just fly back home now? If it’s something serious, I want to be able to spend as much time with him as possible; if it’s just a false alarm, I never regret spending time with him anyway. My family is so concerned, but the vet doesn’t seem very rushed - maybe things will be okay? Or maybe it is serious, but the vet just gets a ton of cases with older dogs, and the urologist is backlogged? I’m just trying to figure out how serious this situation is, and if I should be at my dog's side immediately. Any insight would be appreciated!
