SPARTAN CHATTER

“Spartan Chatter” is a new avenue we are exploring to provide direct updates to the Halo community through the Discord Stage feature on the official Halo server.
In our latest episode, Sean Baron, Head of Halo Infinite Live Service, stopped by to answer community questions, discuss player customization, and share new details on what to expect when Season 4 arrives on June 20—including Infection and Career Rank.
MAY UPDATE
On May 10, an update was released to address various community-requested quality-of-life improvements, sandbox tuning updates, and bug fixes, featuring developer commentary to break down each of these elements in further detail.
This blog details updates to modes (such as Super Fiesta’s addition of the campaign’s unique weapon and Equipment variants), sandbox balance tuning (including changes to the Disruptor, as well as Spike and Dynamo Grenades), Forge updates, and more.

The Season 3 run of Intel data drops came to a close this week, providing some additional lore and context to certain narrative elements of the season—from Spartan Dinh’s backstory, to Created activity on some of the new maps, and disruptions caused by Iratus.

The Fracture: FIREWALL event will return one last time on June 13, giving you a final opportunity to earn customization rewards for your CHIMERA armor as part of the free 20-tier Event Pass and claim your FIREWALL Logo Pin as part of Season 3’s Halo Gear Rewards.
Alongside that, the accompanying Precipice Story Shard series will also conclude when the event returns. In the latest chapter, High Auxiliary Sloan has learned of the Assembly—a clandestine cabal of AIs we discovered in data pads back in Halo: Reach. What does this uncovered mystery mean for the future of the Created?

In case you missed it, we’ve been spotlighting a bunch of community-made mods for MCC.
We released our first issue back in April, where we looked at the likes of Cursed Halo Again, Halo 3: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Uncut, Ultimate Forge, and more.
In May, we jumped feet-first into Flood-infected city streets. We unleashed mayhem on Sandtrap, battling against hordes of enemy AI—even the Didact and Gravemind showed up to the party! We saw Halo reimagined in Minecraft, and we fought the most terrifying boss of all... the Halo 3 rat.

HALO: EPITAPH
In May, we revealed the cover art for Halo: Epitaph, illustrated by Chris McGrath.
Halo: Epitaph is the next novel by Kelly Gay, which will explore the final fate of the Didact in the wake of his defeat at the end of Halo 4 —and his subsequent composition in the Halo: Escalation comic series.
Scheduled for release on January 2, 2024, stay tuned for chapter previews later this year!
PRE-ORDER HALO: EPITAPH
Stripped of armor, might, and memory, the Forerunner warrior known as the Didact was torn from the physical world following his destructive confrontation with the Master Chief and sent reeling into the mysterious depths of a seemingly endless desert wasteland. This once powerful and terrifying figure is now a shadow of his former self—gaunt, broken, desiccated, and alone. But this wasteland is not as barren as it seems. A blue light glints from a thin spire in the far distance…
Thus begins the Didact’s great journey—the final fate of one of the galaxy’s most enigmatic and pivotal figures.

THE ARTIST’S CORNER

This month’s piece from The Artist’s Corner is an illustration by David Heidhoff from Halo Mythos, depicting the Desecration of Ulgethon—a first contact encounter that would ignite decades of conflict between the Sangheili and San’Shyuum known as the War of Beginnings.
When the San’Shyuum landed on the desolate world of Ulgethon, a planet that appeared entirely uninhabited, the first pioneer detachment identified a repository of Forerunner relics. Upon arriving at the site, however, they found it inhabited by the Sangheili, and they spoke with their leader—an Arbiter known as Vema ‘Togad, who would come to be known as the Prophet’s Bane.
After learning of their intentions to excavate the ancient relics, ‘Togad slaughtered the San’Shyuum delegation and sent their severed heads back to the Anodyne Spirit as a warning. And so, the War of Beginnings erupted, with the San’Shyuum taking their dreadnought to the skies where it was met by a blockade of Sangheili ships, which is the scene depicted in the artwork below.

Hi all, I’m a 31 year old male who recently found out it’s not normal to “push” while urinating.
I am rather healthy to my knowledge - 6’0 tall, 185lbs, and eat & drink clean (rarely snack and never drink soda).
I had my blood work and urine test done the other day, to which the doctor said I was in wonderful health.
However, I mentioned to him that I push to urinate and he said that he’s referring me to a urologist. Unfortunately the urologist is 3-4 weeks out.
I’m not even sure how long I’ve been experiencing this because I thought it was normal. I can relax and urinate for 12-15 seconds and then the stream weakens and will become a dribble if I don’t “cut it off”. Once I cut it off, I “push lightly” and the stream resumes for another 10-15 seconds.
I don’t urinate frequently per say, usually every 2-3 hours however if I drink a small sugar free Red Bull or some alcohol, I will have to go every 30 minutes or so. In those circumstances when I have to go… I HAVE TO GO. Like I may be able to hold it for 5 minutes or so but after that I’m in discomfort.
I don’t have any strange color to my urine and it does not burn or hurt at all. What’s crazy is these symptoms are used for various things, including prostate cancer -I’m a little bit of a hypochondriac so now I’m freaking out.
I know that many in this group are battling this serious condition and do not want to be rude or seem as if I’m taking away from that with my concerns.

I’ll start with the back story…
I am a mom of 3. I have a rising 5th,3rd, and 1st grader.
I have recently decided to homeschool all 3 of my children for the next school year and the years to follow.
We are in NC and from my experience, there is so much emphasis on the EOY testing and not much on preparation.. & I’m sure it has a lot to do with the fact that most of the teachers aren’t fully certified.
I am a stay at home mom and I’ve done my best to supplement their learning as best as I can but there just isn’t time once you have to carve out dinner , regular homework, bathing, family time etc.
I had always planned on homeschooling after elementary because I wanted my kids to get the basics but I knew I didn’t want them being influenced by children who don’t share our values. I thought I had time.. I thought middle school is when things would shift but that’s not the case. Even my son who was in kindergarten last year now knows all the “curse words”, the middle finger etc.. this is 5-6 year olds! It’s appalling!
The things these kids say to each other is quite disturbing for such a young age
Not trying to knock anyone’s parenting style but I want my children to be influenced by people that are admirable & that will have a positive influence on them not a negative one.
These teachers are tired, under paid, over worked, and desensitized. Our public school system is broken and I refuse to let my children fall along with it.
This will be my first year homeschooling & I I have recently began my research, and for now I am torn between using IXL & time4learning along with printable worksheets/ manipulatives etc to use as curriculum.

Hi all, I’m a 31 year old male who recently found out it’s not normal to “push” while urinating.
I am rather healthy to my knowledge - 6’0 tall, 185lbs, and eat & drink clean (rarely snack and never drink soda).
I had my blood work and urine test done the other day, to which the doctor said I was in wonderful health.
However, I mentioned to him that I push to urinate and he said that he’s referring me to a urologist. Unfortunately the urologist is 3-4 weeks out.
I’m not even sure how long I’ve been experiencing this because I thought it was normal. I can relax and urinate for 12-15 seconds and then the stream weakens and will become a dribble if I don’t “cut it off”. Once I cut it off, I “push lightly” and the stream resumes for another 10-15 seconds.
I don’t urinate frequently per say, usually every 2-3 hours however if I drink a small sugar free Red Bull or some alcohol, I will have to go every 30 minutes or so. In those circumstances when I have to go… I HAVE TO GO. Like I may be able to hold it for 5 minutes or so but after that I’m in discomfort.
I don’t have any strange color to my urine and it does not burn or hurt at all. What’s crazy is these symptoms are used for various things, including prostate cancer -I’m a little bit of a hypochondriac so now I’m freaking out.

And the National Eating Disorders Association, which laid off people staffing its helpline and reportedly replaced them with a chatbot, suspended its use of the technology after it doled out insensitive and harmful advice.Roberts said that chatbots can produce costly errors and that companies rushing to incorporate ChatGPT into operations are “jumping the gun.” Since they work by predicting the most statistically likely word in a sentence, they churn out average content by design. That provides companies with a tough decision, she said: quality vs. cost.“We have to ask: Is a facsimile good enough? Is imitation good enough? Is that all we care about?” she said. “We’re going to lower the measure of quality, and to what end? A humbling (if not humiliating) post. The proctor ended my exam. I hadn't even read the 1st question.
Situation: I read the online instructions prior to the exam, the day before the exam, and during the check-in process. The Pearson VUE guide for online exams stated the following with respect to Visibility/movement: "Throughout your exam, you must stay in your designated testing space, in view of your webcam, unless your program specifically allows breaks."
I interpreted "throughout your exam" as you have to stay in front of the camera once the exam STARTS, not prior to it (I know, this was in ignorant on my part. I was nervous/excited and had a lapse in judgement). I was in the process of going through the Pearson Vue tutorial, realized that I forgot a stool for my feet and left the camera for 3 seconds to grab a stool in the same room before sitting down for 2+ hrs. The proctor chatted in and asked why I left my camera - I explained that I grabbed a stool; that I didn't realize I couldn't get up during the software tutorial, before the exam started; apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again. Proctor said "Alright." I started the exam, was in the middle of typing out my notes on the virtual scratch paper and got the notice that my exam was revoked for leaving my seat.
I immediately called Pearson VUE to explain what happened. The rep was sympathetic, found my case, and added a note in there that it was an honest mistake. I told him it would be considerate if Pearson Vue allowed folks to have their space re-inspected if there are honest mistakes like that before the exam starts since this is new to so many people, there are no opportunities to ask questions before starting, and folks pay hundreds of dollars to take and prepare for these exams. He acknowledged my feedback and also recommended I call PMI immediately so they have it in their records that I wasn't trying to cheat. I called PMI. The rep, also sympathetic, said I need to wait 5-7 days for my case to be reviewed and to expect an email about my case's determination. I told the PMI rep I had the case number from Pearson VUE (that the rep gave me), she said that was really helpful for her to include in her notes for potentially faster review w/the authorities that be. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll let me reschedule for free. In the meantime, here are some tips below.
TIPS:

• CHECK-IN: Absolutely check in 30 min before the exam.
  
• CHECK-IN: The process to check in via mobile phone didn't work for me (I tried all 3 methods: QR code, send my phone a text with the link, and by entering the web addy on my phone). The 1st step in the identity verification is to take a photo of yourself via your phone, but nothing on the screen allowed my camera to activate. I aborted after trying multiple times and restarting my phone. I ended up checking in on my desktop.
  
• CHECK-IN: Via the desktop check-in, they ask you to take a photo of your desk with the computer on it. I couldn't do that since I had to use my laptop to take the photo. The 1st proctor who verified my space understood the issue and told me to show her my desk with my laptop and approved my space.
  
• CHECK-IN: After the space verification, and without any indication, a 2nd proctor is assigned while you go through the Pearson VUE Tutorial and this was where things went downhill, as explained above. I'm not sure if there was a chat option during the tutorial part to ask the proctor questions, but I wish I would have thought of that before moving.
  
• EXAM RESOURCES: During the exam you will get a virtual scratch paper, the ability to highlight and strike through questions/answers, you have an option to include a comment that gets sent to PMI.
  

LESSONS LEARNED:

• CHECK-IN: Do EVERYTHING you need to do before you start the check-in process. You won't have an opportunity to get up after that.
  
• CHECK-IN: If you have issues verifying your identity via phone after 3 tries, use the desktop verification link instead. There's no tech support available to help you troubleshoot and I think there was an issue with their mobile process since there were no active links to take the photo.
  
• EXAM LOCATION: Before your exam, research the Reddit posts on the pros/cons and experiences folks have wrt online vs in-person testing.
  
• EXAM STYLE: Don't just consider comfort/time in choosing your exam location, consider your TESTING STYLE. For example, after my exam was revoked, I looked on Reddit to see if others had the same experience and tips on what to do next. I read enough issues with folks getting their exam revoked for seemingly minor or no issues, just the proctor claiming issues and terminating the exam. Another example: someone's exam got revoked for looking away from the camera - the way I process information is by looking up. Pearson Vue guidelines state, "Your eyes must face forward at all times" - I feel like that could be interpreted in different ways and could be made clearer to remove the potential for revoking exams (ex. looking forward + up to the right/left could be considered looking forward still) and that it doesn't allow room for how people naturally behave.
  

AR highly recommends taking the exam at home, but it really depends on your testing style and if you feel like you can follow and interpret all of their rules correctly. I consider myself a rule-follower and still made errors. Perhaps more research on online testing tips could have helped? My hope is that by going to an in-person location, there will be more flexibility to ask the proctor questions and also take the exam in a way that fits my style more (i.e. looking forward & up, moving around more, etc.). One person mentioned their proctor revoked their online exam for moving out of the camera even though they didn't - so scenarios like that make online exam too risky for me. The exam is already stressful enough, so the last thing I want to worry about is if I'm covering my mouth accidentally or if I'm moving too much - there should be more flexibility to allow for human comfort in exam taking.
I took the exam while in-between jobs, my new job starts in a week, so I will have to request a day off to take the exam or find an available Saturday slot - the PMI rep said it's super hard to find a Saturday spot since they fill up so quick. Also, my future manager is aware that I was going to be taking the exam prior to my start date, so I am not looking forward to explaining this to her.
For what it's worth, I wore blue 😂.

If I count the years I spent as a student working as an assistant as well, I've spent over 10 years in retail pharmacy.
I left earlier this year for hospital pharmacy and I'm never going back... If I somehow can't stay in hospital, I'd rather retire and work at a hobby shop or something and take the pay cut. I wish I'd left sooner but at least I finally did it.
It was never a stress-free job, but my stress levels skyrocketed over COVID. The script counts went through the roof, and it was one thing after the other... At first it was just the endless calls and questions, then it was the shots (remember when we thought we'd be done after dose 2?) then the rapid antigens and PCR testing... and more shots. Finally Minor Ailments.
Constantly changing policies from the government about everything didn't help. Finding out about said changes on shift because the government would announce shit without informing the actual HCP delivering the services ahead of time was exasperating. What is the point of booking appointments online if 3 different services all get booked for the same slot, on different calendars? Why even book appointments if you're going to advertise everything as walk-in anyway?
Through it all, head office is constantly coming up with random work to milk pharmacy employees for more profit. I never ate lunch consistently at work anyway & relied on liquid calories, but with masking and the increased workload, it became the new normal to go 8, 10 or even 12 hours without any food or water.
I started developing health issues. Heartburn, stress-related diarrhea, back pain and worst of all, my mental health was taking a huge hit. I would get so angry and hold on to negative interactions. I'd rant to my spouse everyday detailing my terrible day. I couldn't enjoy my days off because I'd just spend it recuperating and being stressed about having to go back to work. Then it hit me, that it was never going to get better. I got through past 3 years of COVID just trying to get over the next hurdle, thinking it'd be better once dose 3 was over or whatever, but it was just never going to get better.
It was a huge decision for me to switch. I generally dislike change. It felt like I was being forced to throw away a decade of experience. I'd finally landed a full time position with good hours, 30 minutes from home. I was good at what I do. To start all over again in a whole new setting? I really didn't want to do it.
I told myself that if I utterly failed in the new setting, I could always get another retail position. The hours/commute might suck but I'd never be out of a job if I was willing to work retail (I don't know about elsewhere, but there's a shortage of pharmacists where I work)...
Once I got to hospital pharmacy- I was amazed. Aside from how intimidated I was by the setting, it's been a wonderful change in pace. I can't believe work can be like this. "Busy" has a different definition here. Yes, I still have "busy" days in hospital. But it's... just work. It's work without having the phone constantly ringing in your ear. There's noone being rude or sarcastic. I still get a lunch break. I still sit down and go to the washroom. I am not exaggerating when I say I'd rather switch fields altogether than go back.
I guess I'm trying to say... If you're in a similar boat and afraid of change like I was... Do it. At least try, so you don't look back even later regretting not even having tried. Good luck everyone.

• No Griefing - Breaking or placing blocks within another player's clearly defined area is strictly prohibited. This is true even in PvP and for seemingly abandoned builds - if it's not yours, don't touch it.
  
• No Client Mods/Exploits - Client modifications (other than Optifine) or exploits to the game are not allowed. (Including but not limited to: Badlion, Forge, Fabric, Lightloader, Lunar Client, flying, speed, x-ray, item duplication, glitching, etc.)

I bought a used Pixel 7 Pro recently and thought it was a shame that Google's battery health feature hasn't been released. I think it'd be nice to see how many charge cycles it's had before I bought it or what the estimated % of its original battery capacity is. Fortunately, Google added new APIs in Android 14 that make it possible to get this data...kinda!
For context, when Google released the first Android 13 QPR1 beta, I discovered a new "Battery Health" screen tucked away in Settings. It was just a placeholder at first, but it got worked on a bit throughout the Android 13 QPR betas before being removed in Android 14 Beta 1.
However, like with many features Google develops for Pixel phones, the underlying APIs are or will become part of AOSP. In this case, I identified several new APIs added to the BatteryManager class that pertain to battery health. These include APIs to get the:

• Charging cycle count
• Charging status (Unknown, Charging, Discharging, Not charging, Full)
• Charging policy (Default, Static, Adaptive, Always charging)
• Battery manufacture date
• Battery date of first use
• State of battery health (remaining estimated full charge capacity relative to the rated capacity in %)

Of these APIs, only the first two (charging cycle count & charging status) are "public", ie. they're available through the Android SDK provided by Google. The remaining four are marked as system APIs, which means they're not available in the Android SDK. That's not a big problem as there are ways around that, but the bigger problem with non-public APIs is that they're usually inaccessible to third-party apps due to missing permissions.
In this case, though, I found that these four APIs can be accessed by any app that holds the BATTERY_STATS permission. BATTERY_STATS has a protection level of signatureprivilegeddevelopment which means it can be granted to apps signed with the platform certificate (signature), apps placed in priv-app directories (privileged), or apps that have been manually granted the permission through ADB (development). The last option is viable even on unrooted devices, which means the permission can be granted to a third-party app that can utilize these APIs to retrieve battery health data.
Using that knowledge, developer narektor created a proof-of-concept, open-source app (called "Batt") that simply reports the battery health data returned from these new APIs in Android 14. You can download the app from GitHub for free. After installing it, run this command to grant it the BATTERY_STATS permission:

adb shell pm grant com.porg.batt android.permission.BATTERY_STATS 

Alternatively, if you install it with the -g flag (ie. adb install -g), it'll be granted the permission upon installation. Or if you have Shizuku set up, the app can grant itself the permission.
Here's an example of what kind of data the app can report (note this screenshot is of a slightly older version). Now here's where the YMMV comes in: I don't know how accurate the stats will be on your device. The app just reports what the APIs return, which in turn depends on whether the stats are actually tracked by the charging IC and whether the HAL supports this feature.
For example, the "first usage date" reported on all the phones I tested is obviously incorrect. For some reason, Google set the range to be from 2020-12-01 to 2038-01-19, so if the value reports 2020-12-01, that's just because it's the default. (If your device reports an obviously incorrect value, like the Unix epoch, the app hides it until you tap "show" at the bottom.)
As an alternative, Tasker by João Dias is also adding these battery health stats soon. You'll be able to get them through the "Get Battery Info" action in case you want to run some automations based on this info.
Enjoy, and don't blame me if you're getting inaccurate results! Hopefully Google bakes this directly into Settings, and hopefully OEMs configure their devices to correctly report this info to the OS so we can all have accurate battery health data available to us.
And yes, I'm aware that X or Y OEM already offers battery health reporting. What's beneficial here is that there's now a standard API and a standard way for vendors to report this info to the OS.
