So, I didn't bother with screenshots, and this is purely anecdotal but I am pretty sure my beloved Lions are just hard coded to suck in Madden 23 Franchise Mode. I'm in year four of a franchise where I've more or less abandoned realism right from the hop, and last draft I ended up with literally the top 5 picks; there were four top 5 rated QBs in the draft. The thing is, I'd already drafted my Franchise QB the year before and invested a whole year in developing him. So I decided, as a sad little Lions fan, I was going to do Detroit a solid to help them get over sucking (they've been no better than 7th worst by draft pick throughout this franchise mode.)
Anyway, as it turns out, THREE off the four QBs were hidden dev (one X-Factor, two Superstars even, great class) and one was a huge bust - 69 overall, 84 arm strength, normal dev level bust. Wanna guess which one the Lions took? It gets better because I just couldn't handle how poorly that had turned out, so I literally RELOADED the whole franchise up to before the draft, and tried some stuff; I gave other teams the #1 pick, gave Detroit 2, then 3, then 4. No matter what order I rigged the top of the draft, the Lions always picked the bust. I ran this through like 10 times.
On one hand, this is the realism I crave. Otoh, jeezus EA did you have to go so hard in the paint...

Dear SF Bay Area and Silicon Valley friends, I am trying to decide where to settle down after spending 20 years living in various parts of the country.
Being from India, we just got our GC after 18 years of waiting. I am 45, my wife is 40. We are planning to have kids next year. My wife just finished residency in Family Medicine and could get a job anywhere in the country fortunately. My job allows me to work remotely from anywhere. I have a bachelors degree from a top 100 university and a management consulting background (big four) and currently an implementation consultant for an accounting software company. I am open to lateral moves.
I am considering a life long dream of moving to the SF Bay Area (or maybe Sacramento initially for 2-3 years), because until recently it has offered professional growth, a more diverse population that makes you feel very welcome as an immigrant + there is constant flow of amazing ideas and opportunities at companies like SpaceX or Nvidia or Google. (I am aware times are changing and people are losing jobs).
QUESTIONS:

Do you see the SF Bay Area making a roaring come back? Or will it keep sliding downhill? Thinkers and famous speakers like Chamath Palihapitiya (successful ex-Facebook engineer and now VC) paint a very bleak future for the SF Bay Area and specifically for San Francisco.
If you think Bay Area still has a future, is it better to be positioned near Fremont/Milpitas/Santa Clara? Or Berkeley/Walnut Creek/Pittsburgh? Or better to position at a safe distance in Sacramento?
Do you see Sacramento growing for the next 5-10 years? or is it following the same trajectory as Bay Area and also going downhill?

I am currently in Charlotte, and I have seriously considered Atlanta before but not very happy with life in the South (not as much innovation, and a little too laid back professionally).

Here’s my top 10. I also wanna clarify some of these tattoos are guilty pleasures. So a few may be bad but I’ll explain if it is a guilty pleasure tattoo or not on my list. These aren’t necessarily in order from best to worst, I just list down any tattoo that I can think of, so it’s in no chronological order. All are from season 8 forward.

Kevin Laroy’s Watercolor Sternum Tattoo (Season 8) Is it the most amazing tattoo in the world? No but I thought it was a pretty tattoo and definitely not the worst tattoo of the day. Tbh I would not mind wearing that tattoo. And in my opinion he shouldn’t have been on the bottom.
JP Roldan Owl Clock Tattoo (Season 11) I do understand he had a hard canvas that wanted a lot and some lines were shaky, but I thought the drawing turned out really nice and tbh, I think the linework was shaky because of the fact that the calf can flinch when getting tattooed there. I have an intricate piece on my calf and it flinched over and over again so I know the feeling. In my opinion, I think there were worse tattoos than that one in that episode.
Jake Parsons Crab Tattoo (Season 13) Even though the water was a little weak in the tattoo, I really loved how the crab turned out and that is another tattoo I wouldn’t mind wearing at all because the crab was so adorable. And in my opinion I don’t think he should’ve been on the bottom. I will say though if he would’ve been sent home over Mike, I would’ve been livid. But thankfully he didn’t.
Patrick Flynn Fairy Tattoo (Season 13)(Guilty Pleasure) I get his fairy had some damage to the skin but I think it was BS he was sent home over Mike because Mike’s wasn’t even proportional at all while Patrick’s was.
Alexis Kovacs Dog Ice Cream (Season 12) Idk why she was voted in the bottom with Pony. Pony is understandable since she didn’t finish because of her canvas that abruptly quit, but Alexis’s dog tattoo looked so cute and I would totally wear that tattoo. I thought Tito’s tattoo was way worse than her’s.
Linzy Michelle Hades Tattoo (Season 10)(Guilty Pleasure) Now was her tattoo amazing? No. But I liked it a lot better than what Amanda and Jason did. Jason’s didn’t read as Hades and Amanda not only used the wrong reference, but the black and grey was way too light in where it probably wouldn’t heal right. In my opinion, Amanda should’ve been sent home over Linzy since she was in the bottom twice and Linzy was only in the bottom once. I did like how clean the black was in her tattoo, however the only thing I didn’t like about the tattoo was the flames.
Black Anchor Volcano Tattoo (Season 9)(Guilty Pleasure) Won’t lie, Oliver is right the tattoo did look like a giant ass cover up, but what I kinda liked about it was how it looked like a painting. At least it was readable unlike Think Before You Ink’s where you couldn’t tell at all that it was a hurricane. To me this is a guilty pleasure tattoo of mine that I’ve seen on the show.
Sparks Owl Maze Tattoo (Season 10) Tbh I really liked this tattoo and I don’t think the tattoo looked as muddied as the other artists made it out to be. Sparks even shared a healed picture of the tattoo and it didn’t look muddied at all to me. It’s another tattoo I wouldn’t mind wearing at all.
Jordi Pla Pig and Rib Tattoo (Season 13) Even though the challenge was color theory and his had no color theory, I thought it was a very funny tattoo and not the worst one of the bottom 3. In my opinion Jessa should have been sent home over him.
Janelle Jaguar Cover Up (Season 12) Okay, why was she sent home over Cam? Cam’s tattoo was 10x worse than her and Holli’s. Janelle’s was a very well done and nice tattoo and clearly covered the tattoo. Cam’s wasn’t even a well done lion and I didn’t like how the mane was done. And don’t get me started on how annoying Nikki was in this episode! I’d wear Janelle’s any day.

& for the longest time, i had an interest in the many glitches of red, blue, yellow & green. ‘m & 3TrainerPoké [ iyazo ] & missingno [ ketsuban ] being a favorite pair out of the glitch conglomerate.
i am still on the hunt for the elusive ‘m [ index no 254 ], some say it’s upside down, others say it lacks sprites as a whole. i’m here to find out which is true.
it’s really the only game, save a few that i bother exhausting effort to play anymore. haha.
i do play stardew & minecraft [ console ] on occasion, splatoon too.. i don’t have 3 yet, though. mostly lighthearted stuff, but i do like darker games too.

Once upon a time, it was commonplace for online games to have subscription fees. The earliest popular graphical online games, including Ultima Online and EverQuest, all had recurring service fees, as did many games that came after, such as Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft.
That model has largely given way to the "freemium" model where the publishers give the game itself away for free, but much of the game's content is locked behind the choice of either extended play times "grinding" for materials, or the option of skipping that grind with a real-money payment.
However, some games have both, and that usually includes the longest-lived and most-successful ones. Sega's ten-year-on Phantasy Star Online 2 is free-to-play, but has extensive cash purchases and also has a "premium" subscription available. In Final Fantasy XIV and the venerable World of Warcraft, the subscription fee is still required despite the presence of a cash shop.

Grand Theft Auto Online has a lot of similarities to what we usually think of as qualities of "MMO" games. While it isn't "massively multiplayer" on a local scale—sessions normally include a maximum of 32 players—there are tens of thousands of players online at any given moment. It has named player characters with persistent progress and all of the other things we think of from MMO games: equipment, appearance customization, player housing, difficult multiplayer "raid" events, and so on.
With that context in mind, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that Rockstar is launching a subscription service for GTA Online. It's called GTA+, and it costs $6 a month. Ponying up for the premium subscription earns you a cool $500,000 in the in-game GTA$ currency every month and extra GTA$ on "Shark Cards," as well as exclusive benefits. Here's the list of benefits for the first month: The Principe Deveste Eight — along with a complimentary Hao’s Special Works upgrade for it before it is made available to purchase by the general public — plus the HSW Orange Trip and HSW CMYK Glitch Liveries. The Auto Shop located in La Mesa, introduces an assortment of gameplay updates from Los Santos Tuners. Current Auto Shop owners can relocate to La Mesa at no additional cost. Waived LS Car Meet Membership fees. Current LS Car Meet members with GTA+ will be reimbursed GTA$50,000 during this event period. Yacht owners can upgrade to the Aquarius Super Yacht at no additional cost. The Gussét Frog Tee and Broker Prolaps Basketball Top and Shorts automatically added to your wardrobe. The Conveyor Livery for the Mammoth Avenger, HVY APC, and TM-02 Khanjali. A selection of free paints and emblems for the Auto Shop. 3X GTA$ and RP on Hao’s Special Works Race Series. 2X Car Meet Rep on the Street Race Series. It would be easy to criticize Rockstar for this move because the company has already taken $60 of your money for the game. That's to say nothing of the grind-heavy nature of GTA Online that practically forces players to purchase Shark Cards for in-game currency if they want to make progress at any kind of reasonable rate. There's also the fact that the company is charging money for what is honestly an extremely minor update on the current-generation consoles.
In the interest of fairness, though, we'll note that many players who bought GTA V (including GTA Online) purchased it nearly a decade ago. Just like other major online games, GTA Online has seen years of additional content and improvements through continual updates, and that stuff does cost money to create.

If you own GTA V, you don't actually have to pay Rockstar anything to play it for the rest of eternity, so giving players an option to spend a little every month to support continued development is fair. However, the list of benefits, at least for the first month, is pretty weak.
There's another caveat, too: this program is only available to players on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. We've asked Rockstar if GTA+ will be coming to the PC version, and will update this post if we get a response.

My $5 one has helped me to stop overwatering. It has also taught me the variations of moisture between the different levels in a pot. I have read so much about how it stays more wet the further down you go, but it's helpful to see it first hand.
Personally, If the soil reads dry 3/4 of the way down the 5 gallon bag, I add water. I don't measure it since the plant is growing quickly and that will affect how much water is needed at any given point. I just feel it out and use my probe. The fabric bag certainly helps.

2023.03.25 06:36 zhemer86 How come contractors seem competent until the work starts?

This will be a bit of venting for me.
My wife and I just purchased a house and we’ve had a lot of contractors in for work to get done. We decided to go with highly reviewed local contractors instead of nationwide companies and honestly we are regretting that choice.
Other than our plumbers every contractor we’ve had out has seemed very solid and knowledgeable and on top of the job until the work begins. At that point everything falls apart and they either do poor work or become non responsive. Remember these are 5 star rated local companies working in our community.
Our painters had to spend two full days fixing all the mistakes they made and it’s still a bad paint job if you really look. I’m talking visible paint runs, wall paint on the ceiling and baseboards. A room painted the wrong color. Doors and trim just not painted. Holes not patched. I got all the excuses of why it happened and how the job went wrong but we still have a poor paint job even after two days of fixes.
Our roofers have been great up until the roof came off on Thursday. Turns out the guy didn’t order the inspection (can be ordered three days in advance) until the day after the roof demo. Now we have no roof (exposed decking / vents removed) until Monday when the city can come out and the contractor suddenly is ghosting me when I’m asking if they are going to tarp our exposed roof with open holes for 3 days. They also damaged multiple window sills and screens while removing the roof and they aren’t responding to the photos I send them of the damage.
I really don’t understand how people can seem so competent with a well run, highly rated company yet still seem to not know how to do their job.

I have a miniature with a very small base-contact area. She is much too delicate to drill and pin. I was thinking of having her ankle deep in "water" using clear 5-minute epoxy in order to keep her from breaking off instantly like she would with superglue, but I afraid of ruining the painted mini.
