2023.06.01 03:17 Dis-Organizer Help with getting services in the US?

Is this something the government does at some level? Or legal aid groups or nonprofits or something?
I had to leave my work at the end of 2022 (got too sick). I barely have energy to walk. I can’t read. I’m burning through savings while scheduling as many doctors appointments as I can (where I’m mostly told all the standard tests are normal). I know that there are in theory services for disabled people (and I know they’re subpar but). Is this something I can go to my city councilor for? Or my Congress person?
I’m struggling to figure everything out myself with all the brain fog and fatigue

2023.06.01 03:12 DiskAdministrative76 OH - Medical insurance told me I would be covered until the end of the month after quitting job, now they say my employer sets that date and I am SOL for a $20k medical bill

I live, worked, and had surgery in Ohio. September 2022 I went on maternity leave from my work. I was supposed to return to work in December 2022, but decided to stay at home in the end. I had health insurance through my employer and had a gallbladder removal surgery scheduled for December 22, 2022 so I called them and explained the situation asking if my surgery would still be covered since I was not going to be returning back to work and my leave was about to be up. The phone call was recorded and I was told regardless of the date I resigned I would have health insurance coverage until December 31, 2022.
December 21, 2022, the day before my surgery, I went into my office to clear out my desk and explain the situation to my supervisor. He asked me to email him my official resignation letter and to please participate in an exit interview that would be scheduled by HR.
A few months ago my medical coverage for this was denied and when asking my insurance about it they said my last day of coverage was the 21st and that my work would have to update that if it is incorrect. I told them that they told me I was covered when I asked about this specific scenario and they said we shouldn't have said that because your work sets your coverage. I asked for a recording of the conversation I had with them where they told me I would be covered and they are still working on providing this but I know that they said I was covered because I was planning to either wait until January or file a life changing event in order to get on my husbands insurance.
On the other side of things I called my work and asked HR if they could update my last day to the 24th which is the day I sent in my resignation letter (email) and they told me that they are sorry but I told them my last day was the 21st (I did not) and that there is nothing they can do.
I've read that verbal resignation is accepted in some workplaces but my manager said he would need a formal written email from me for my resignation which I sent on the 24th after the surgery. Is this something worth fighting for them to change or am I out of luck?
Also in regards to the case with my health insurance where they told me that in my exact situation I would be covered and now are backtracking saying that is not true is there anything I can do on this end either?
The total medical bills we are owing for the procedures come to $20,000 and this is really not something we can afford to just throw away over these small mistakes when we tried to do our best to make sure we would be covered as I would have waited until January when I would be covered on my husbands plan or filed a life changing event to add me a few days early.

2023.06.01 03:05 applehoba DAT Breakdown (April 23) 20AA 22RC 24PAT

DAT Breakdown (April 23) 20AA 22RC 24PAT
Hello everyone! I took my DAT back in April and finally have the time to write about what I did to study.
https://preview.redd.it/edhp95y73b3b1.jpg?width=1700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6741630f082f4bde35df9d93b2e522581827718c

Study Plan: I was dumb and thought Booster was BootCamp, so in January, I purchased Booster. I did not use it at all and felt like the concepts were out of date compared to Bootcamp. I started studying full-time in February after recovering from my gastric sleeve surgery. I used the Ari Schedule for my studying, and when I had free time during the day, I did Anki flash cards. I studied from February 1st until April 1st, the only free day was Sundays. I graduated from college in December 2022 and lived off my savings to put focus on this exam. I worked on the scheduled materials for about 4 hours, then did 3 hours of review from previous content. I suggest looking at youtube videos of the biology content so you get a different perspective on the topics. Do as many practice tests as you can and go through them like you are taking the test again, EVEN FOR THE ONES YOU GOT RIGHT!!!! I have worked as a STEM tutor for the last 5 years at my universities study skills program, so if you guys need help, LMK!
BIO: 18
I feel as if I really tried my best in this section. I was not doing well on the practice test on BootCamp and tried some on Booster. The booster tests were too easy, in my opinion, and I was scoring 25 in this section. Very specific questions are asked on the exam, and I feel like I did not go in-depth enough. I would suggest taking biology seriously and working on memorization!!
CHEM: 21GC and 20OC.
Chemistry was my favorite while in high school and university (also my minor). GC on BootCamp does more than prepare you for the exam. Focus on the practice problems and use the tagging system to your advantage. Tag a question as green ONLY if you can get it without looking at notes. If you get a question wrong, always mark it as red. Once you try it again and get it right, mark it yellow. I feel like you need to practice the question at least 3 times to be sure you fully understand what you did wrong.
OC on BootCamp was also representative of the exam. I feel like the main focus should be on reaction mechanisms and drawing them out. The way I studied was after you complete the full lessons with Mike, try to draw the mechanism from memory. Even if you get it wrong, you are still practicing and can correct your mistakes later. Before you leave the lab section of OC due, remind yourself that you will see IR and NMR. This section is hard if you don't know the basic steps of spectroscopy.
QR: 18
My QR section was very hard. I did not focus much on this section while studying but did well on the practice exams on Booster and BootCamp. There were more concepts that were not reviewed in either program during test day. So I suggest reviewing some other math and stats concepts outside of what is on the study websites. PM me if you need help!
RC: 22
Reading comprehension is pretty straightforward if you read a lot of scientific literature. As someone who has a degree in Public health and chemistry, I read so many articles and papers that my brain hurts. I have been tutoring a few students on this section for English is their second language or do not have strong reading skills. My suggestion is to read the whole passage. I could not do any of the strategies on either program and get the question correct. I did not start reading until 4th grade (a story for another time), so the only way I can fully understand the passage is by reading/highlighting. I was able to read the entire passage and start answering questions. If you cannot find the context and answer the question in 30 sections, you need to bookmark it and move on. You will have more than enough time, in the end, to go back. Also, statement reason questions are there to trick you, go with what you can confirm and MOVE ON. don't stay on a question too long they are all weighted equally.
PAT: 24PAT
This was my favorite section by far and a mood refresher before moving on to the other sections. I used this booklet to simulate taking the actual exam. I believe that this is the reason I got a great score. I marked questions taking me longer than 20 seconds and came back. I finished the first round of answering in 40 minutes and had 20 minutes to review and complete the ones I missed.
Let's start with keyholes. Keyholes are hard in the beginning but gradually get easier the more you practice. I suggest sitting as close to the screen as possible in this section and looking back and forth. While I did this section, I used my scrap paper as a doodle pad so I could keep my nerves down.
As I did on the practice test, I skipped the entire TFE and leave it for the end. This section has always been the hardest for me and I valued my time on other sections more than struggling to work on this one. I spent about 15 seconds on each of the TFEs and focused on big changes or lines in the shapes instead of slight differences. This is the easiest way to eliminate answers. Visualizing the object may be hard at first but eventually, the 3D image will pop up. For the first few problems on the generator, take your time and grab something with different sides, like your phone. Familiarize yourself with the top, front, and right side(end) of the object so you have something physical to relate the problems to.
Angle ranking should be quick and easy for you. Take about 20 sections per question max and you will still do great. I think of angle ranking in three ways flattening, filling, and scooping. Flattening is for the obtuse angles that you can compare to a straight line to tell which is the largest. The filling was for me to imagine pouring something into the angle and using it as a cup. Whichever angle held the most was the biggest. Scooping was the strategy I used for acute angles, where I imagined using the angle as a shovel and seeing how much it would pick up. These sound silly, but really work!!
Hole punching is the main reason why the booklet helped with the practice paper. Teaching yourself how to fold and unfold things is very hard if you don't have craft experience. For the first week of PAT, I would cut out paper and mimic the holes and folds. After it is made, try the question on paper and make your answer on the grid. Unfold the template and see if you got it right. You need to be quick and efficient. Remember to look at all the answers if you can solve the question and pick the best guess!
Cube counting is straightforward if you have a system. Always have a system and start from the bottom layer. You don't want to make a mistake counting because you can have 5 questions on the same diagram that are all going to be wrong.
Pattern folding is really hard in the beginning. this is a section where practice problems really come in handy. I started with a few questions that I printed and folded to visualize the folding. This helped me understand how to do it in my head! Remember to look for big changes and defining marks like colored sides or unique shapes.
Overall:
I feel like I did well on the exam and was properly prepared. though I did not get what I wanted in the BIO and QR sections I am content with knowing I finished strong. I am submitting my apps tomorrow, so wish me good luck! Hopefully, you guys can find some insight, and feel free to ask any questions in the replies. You can also PM me for help, as I tutor applying students for free on the PAT section!

2023.06.01 02:50 Chocacheek Worried (details in comments)

Hi everyone. First of all I want to say FUCK this disease and I sincerely pray for everyone in this community who’s been affected by this. I’ve been lurking for a while and this seems like a great community despite being united by horrible circumstances.
For record: I am 31/F. No known genetic risk for PC. Mom is adopted so I don’t know her side. Not diabetic. Never had pancreatitis. Have had several CT scans and lots of X-rays (so, radiation exposure) but I haven’t seen that as a risk factor.
If you look at my post history you’ll see I have bad health anxiety. I have since I was 14. (At least that’s the earliest I can remember it). I haven’t posted about this particular issue on Reddit yet, but I recently completed chemo (methotrexate) for gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, which comes from a molar pregnancy. For someone with preexisting health anxiety it was horrible.
Here’s where the PC part comes in.
Before the pregnancy, I was losing some weight. First noticed in July 2022, but I’d also quit drinking and exercising more since I was trying to get pregnant. Right before chemo (which started February 2022) I noticed white specks in my stool. Wasn’t overly concerned. Dr. did a stool study for parasites (to ease my mind). Then I started chemo. I began to notice floating poops and chunks of food in my poop. My poops also looked pale and a little greasy. I was eating normally (actually eating fairly unhealthy and lots of junk food. I had a “fuck it, life sucks so I’m gonna eat what I want” mentality during treatment) but losing weight. I brought this up to my gyn oncologist. Her response was more or less “of course things are messed up, you’re on chemo.” Which honestly makes sense. About a week after chemo ends, I suddenly lose my appetite. It wasn’t gradual. It just happened suddenly. Initially I chalked it up to chemo, but my stupid ass also got on google and looked up the chunks of food in poop, etc and you all probably know what came up.
So I go to my regular pcp now that chemo is over (about a week after it ends) and tell him all my anxiety that im now having over PC. his reply is similar that my body has been through a ton and this isn’t overly worrysome, but he agrees to a CA 19-9 test to try and reassure me, but cautions me it is not specific and me just finishing chemo is a “wildcard”.
It comes back 47. I panic. I go to gastro. I’d previously seen him because I do have a single gallstone. It has never caused problems. I’ve actually had it since I was a child, which is unusual He isn’t worried either, but orders the MRCP and am abdominal MRI because he can tell im worried. I get the MRCP and abdominal MRI the next day. I will note that I did my best with the breath holds, but for some of the images I was not able to hold my breath the entire time (mostly due to anxiety). The report comes back everything is normal. The only note it made was a “filling defect” in my gallbladder. The report doesn’t say anything about a bad image, but of course I was worried that I screwed it up.
He also did an order for a CMP, CBC and repeat CA 19-9. I will note that this was at a different lab, but I got it done yesterday and my CA 19-9 is up to 93 less than a week later.
I will note that I also had a CT with contrast (just a regular one) in December 2022 when I was pregnant due to the molar pregnancy situation. I had a CT angiogram of my chest and abdomen in January 2023 due to some pain I was having and concerns for a PE from shortness of breath. Both said my pancreas was unremarkable.
I’ve been having a full upper right pain lately (nothing terrible) since all this started. I am not sure if it’s my anxiety or not. It is somewhat intermittent.
With the CA 19-9 going up again, the gastro referred me to another gastro who does EUS if I want it, but kind of left the ball in my court if I want to schedule or see him because he isn’t worried based on the MRCP results.
I am trying to get some guidance about what I should do. Should I do the EUS? Does anyone have any other advice? Thank you in advance.

2023.06.01 02:38 MyBrainsPOV Question about quarterly taxes and "Safe Harbor"

So last year I sold a house and paid about $24,000 in taxes (not a primary residence). This year I sold stock and apparently I now have to do quarterly taxes. My CPA said that my taxes due based on what I expected to make this year and the amount sold should be about $12,000 so that's what I put aside. When I did my 2022 taxes he included a Safe Harbor payment schedule that is equal to what I had to pay last year. I have googled and watched a few youtube videos but I am very confused about what to do here. It seems like if I pay the same taxes that I did last year that I wouldn't get penalties for paying late this year? I did wait way too long to do my taxes and filed an extension (but sent in checks on time to fed and state) which means I missed the first quarterly tax payment date as well for 2023.

  1. Is this "Safe Harbor" situation the best for me given I missed the date?
  2. I assume I'm getting this money back. Am I really going to get like a $12,000 return in the end?
  3. Do I have to do quarterly taxes like this going forward for the rest of my life?

And most importantly
  1. Does any of this affect how much I can put into retirement savings this year? I have already put about $6,000 in and just upped my contribution so should be closing out the year contributing about $18,000 split between roth and traditional.

2023.06.01 02:15 veeteex My Preconditioning Update Experience (dealership service rant)

First off a big thanks to this community for the pointers on what to expect ahead of going to the dealer to get the preconditioning update for my 2022 Gt-Line. The print outs helped but also knowing what to look for and expecting a battle going in.
First I made an appointment online for first available they had which was like a 2pm appointment (like 4 weeks out). I did it online with my local dealer and in the notes I was very specific about what I was requesting.
I cleared my afternoon schedule that day, I get to that 2pm appointment and the service person says he has no EV6 techs available and that I will have to leave the car overnight. Which I couldn't do. I asked why they didn't let me know before the appointment and they said I was the one who should have called beforehand to make sure it was something they could do before they closed at 6pm. So I reschedule for a new time, first thing in the morning 7:30a a few weeks later.
Next 7:30a appointment, show up first thing. I have the print out in hand. Explain what I am looking for. The guy cuts me off and tells me he knows what it's for. OK cool. I told him I will wait for it in the lobby. There was an SA for Ipdeal logic they were going to do aswell.
About 3 hours later he says it's ready. I make sure to check to see if winter mode is still there. Yep, still had winter mode. I side bar with the service guy with the print out showing him the screen shot that it should show "pre conditioning" after a successful update. Not winter mode. He tries to tell me that winter mode will go away on its own and that it's because of the ambient temperature (it was 85F outside). I am calm but disagree and stay persistent. I asked if he could have the tech "double check it was applied". They take the car back for only like 30 minutes, come back and he said it shows up now. He mentioned they just had to reset something etc. And indeed its was now showing Preconditioning in the menu. That was a whole unpleasant experience.
My pointers...
Get a earl morning appointment if you want the car back same day.
Have extra time on to wait long periods so you can send it back to the kitchen if they didn't prepare it correctly.
Have the TSB print outs in hand.
Tell them the problems you're having, why you need it.
Show them the TSB and tell them you want that update.
Make sure to check the car menu before leaving, if it still shows winter mode, talk to the service person again. Stay calm but firm. Tell them to reapply the update again until it displays Preconditioning mode.
Prepare for confrontation but be cool and calm about it. It's going to take time and argue your case.
One thing to note, they did have to reset something. When they tried to return it to me with winter mode, my charging setting for AC and DC %'s were as I left it. But when they fixed it (when preconditioning actually showed up) and I finally got correct menu choice, those values were reset to 100%. So there appears to be something that is indeed reset.
Good luck out there.

2023.06.01 02:00 BlueArchiveMod Daily Questions Megathread June 01, 2023

Please use this thread to ask any questions you have about the game. Please search though the comments section as your question may have been answered already or through the search bar.

General Resources

REMINDER: Bind your account!

Please remember to bind your accounts and take note of your UID, member code, server location, and any information related to your account (e.g. amount spent, student roster, etc). If anything happens to your account (e.g. losing access, unauthorized access), you will need to provide as much info as you can to Nexon's customer support email. Guest accounts that are unbound will be extremely difficult to recover, perhaps impossible.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

[01] When does the server reset?
For global, dailies reset at 19:00 UTC and weeklies reset on Sunday.
[02] Should I re-roll this account?
This will depend on your priorities with PvE, PvP, or both, but you can generally see the “ideal” units as Iori, Hibiki, and Tsubaki for most content, while Shun and Haruna are great for PvP.
[03] Who should I spend my elephs on? Who should I mystic unlock?
At the start, prioritize spending your blank elephs on getting Serina to 2-star for the increased healing stat, Tsubaki to 3-star for the extra tankiness when she is reloading. It is generally advised not to spend your elephs on increasing characters to 4-star and 5-star ratings, since there is only a stat increase and the amount of elephs needed is quite high.
[04] What do my support students’ stats do?
Aside from increasing the stats of their own skills, support students will provide additional stat boosts to your striker team. The specific increase(s) can be viewed by clicking on “Support” on the right side of the team formation screen.
[05] What should I buy in the shop?
[06] What does the “leader” position do?
This is purely cosmetic, as it changes which student’s chibi shows up on the map.
[07] What benefits are there to joining a club?
  1. Students assigned to assist with TA cannot also be selected to assist with JFD.
  2. 20 credits are rewarded every minute by setting assistants.
  3. The specific unit that is borrowed can be only used once a day.
  4. There's a fee of 40,000 credits, when borrowing a assistant student.
  5. The donor receives 50,000 credits instead; even though the fee is 40,000 credits.
  6. The fee can only be received 20 times a day.
[08] How does the pity system work?
You need to pull, at a minimum, 200 times in order to get 200 recruitment points that are redeemed for the character you want. The recruitment point system does not carry over from banner to banner, it is only shared between banners that are concurrently running.
[09] Why can’t I find my friend’s club?
While the servers’ updates are separated from JP and global, the global servers are separated further into smaller divisions. You need to be on the same server as your friend, which you can check from the home screen: top-right menu button > account > version info. The server must be the same.
[10] When is X banner coming? Should I save for X student?
We never know for sure, due to the fact that global servers are on an accelerated schedule compared to JP. Please refer to this guide for some more info.
[11] Should I use Pyroxenes to refill my AP?
If you want to prioritize progression, the first three daily refills are decently valuable, this is because the Pyroxene cost of refilling will increase for every three refills. If you are focused on character collection or future banners, you should be saving your Pyroxenes.
[12] Why can’t I buy X student’s eleph in the shop?
You can only buy elephs of students you own.
[13] What should I craft?
At the start, prioritize crafting cafe furniture until your comfort is maxed out, then students’ gifts, then whichever upgrade materials you need. The crafting system is the only way to get furniture and gifts at the moment.
[14] What is the “Anniversary” in account settings?
This is your birthday, used for characters to wish you happy birthday.
[15] When will the beginner guide missions for Nonomi end?
This is a permanent addition, so feel free to take your time with the tasks.
[16] What is the best place to farm EXP?
You can run any map to farm EXP, as the EXP gain is equal to the amount of AP spent (i.e. 10 AP spent = 10 EXP gained). You should be looking at the stages that drop the equipment upgrade materials that you need.
[17] What is the “Secret Tech Sheet” in the Total Assault shop?
This is used to upgrade a student’s (non-EX) skill to level 10.
[18] Is it worth doing a raid if I can’t pass X difficulty level?
It is always more efficient to clear the highest difficulty you can finish instead of failing/forfeiting a higher difficulty.
[19] Can I claim the Limited Students through exchanging Expert Permits? How often does the Expert Permit shop resets?
You cannot get the limited students via this method. You will still need to pull for them. There's no specific mentioned but it's expected to be monthly.

2023.06.01 01:34 Ok_Jicama9580 C&p exam notice; PFD for 6 weeks

I filed Nov 21, 2022 and had most of my exams in January of 2023, then one more in March 2023. I went PFD for the second time April 14th, 2023 then got an email today saying I may expect a call to schedule an exam soon. This time, however, my va account and ebenefits as well as my VES online account don't show any movement or any exams ordered. In the past they have when I got these emails. I'll call VES and VERA but wanted to ask insight if anyone else has experienced this so late in the process? My claim is flagged MST and I have 10 new contentions if that matters.

Investors are holding onto BTC, waiting for a bullish momentum
According to data provided by CryptoQuant, the value of Bitcoin reserves has seen a significant drop of approximately $7 billion in the past month. CryptoQuant's publication states, "At the very least, the amount of Bitcoin circulating on exchanges has decreased over the last month."

https://preview.redd.it/9lcqg641ma3b1.png?width=648&format=png&auto=webp&s=969fc8ef7d2d21b92bc5c6fc51e98d24eabc2b12
Furthermore, CryptoQuant data indicates that exchange platforms have lost a substantial amount of 2,132,000 Bitcoins from their reserves. This decrease suggests that investors are opting to hold onto their Bitcoins rather than engaging in large-scale selling.
Past data reveals an ongoing decline in the number of deposit transactions on exchanges since 2022, resembling a situation witnessed in July 2019 (likely influenced by the positive sentiment surrounding the upcoming Bitcoin halving event scheduled for May 2020)

2023.06.01 01:14 chubbybunny1001 In need of disability determination advice

I applied for SSI and benefits last summer, and I was denied for benefits. The process for income is still ongoing, and it's stuck in the medical review stage since 07/21/2022. My doctors sent them everything asked for last year.
I called in March, asking for any updates or if they needed anything else. They asked if I'd had a doctor appointment since this January, and I said "no, I can't afford it." So, they said they'd schedule one with one of their doctors, so it would be paid for and all I would need is transportation. I haven't received any information on an appointment since then, and my case manager says there isn't anything she can do.
At this point, I am out of all but one of my medications, and for the last one I have, I've only got about a month left, and without my meds I've been getting sick more often. I'm eating one meal a day so I don't run out of food. I can't find a job that won't hospitalize me or doesn't require licenses/degrees that I don't have.
I really don't know what I can do at this point, or if there's anything I can do. Literally any advice would be quite helpful as I am incredibly lost.

2023.06.01 01:06 markc2502010 EasyJet Flight Delay "ATC regulations" "Extraordinary circumstances" Defence Beaten.

Hi Just wanted to archive this result from a recent Flight delay claim I had with Easyjet which ended up going all the way to ADR. I hope me posting this on Reddit will allow others who were on this flight claim the compensation they're entitled to.

Scheduled Date & Time of Departure : 29/06/2022 02:25
Departure Airport : Dalaman Airport – Turkey
Destination Airport : Manchester Airport - United Kingdom
Flight Number Ezy1960
Airline Easy Jet
Scheduled Date & Time of Arrival 29/06/2022 06:55
Actual Date & Time of Arrival 29/06/2022 20:00

Defence Reason : Air traffic control slot
“Due to the ATC regulations imposed upon the Preceding Flight it was not possible to operate the Flight without an overnight delay.”

ADR FINAL DETERMINATION
“The Recital states that 'Extraordinary circumstances should be deemed to exist where the impact of an air traffic management decision in relation to a particular aircraft on a particular day gives rise to a long delay, an overnight delay, or the cancellation of one or more flights by that aircraft, even though all reasonable measures had been taken by the air carrier concerned to avoid the delays and cancellations's Reference is also made to the Court of Appeal case 'Blanche vs Easyjet'in which the court stated 'in order to avail itself of the protection provided by Recital 15, “the carrier must demonstrate the necessary causal link between the ATMD and the particular delay that is the subject of the compensation claim.” This means that carriers must be able to identify the effect that a particular ATMD had on a particular aircraft in relation to a particular scheduled flight in order to rely on the extraordinary circumstances defence. In Blanche, this was satisfied easily by the fact that the ATMD of Gatwick ATC had prevented the aircraft scheduled to operate the claimant's flight from arriving in Brussels until well after the scheduled departure time for that flight had passed. On the basis of the above, I consider that the Airline in this case has provided evidence deemed sufficient to demonstrate that the existence of ATC restrictions caused a delay to the Flight and that this event would be regarded as an extraordinary circumstance within the remit of the Regulation. Accordingly, I am satisfied that the Airline can rely on the delay being due to extraordinary circumstances as a defence against the requirement to pay compensation on this occasion. 5.4 Having considered all available information and evidence, I am satisfied that all reasonable measures were considered, in an attempt to avoid or minimise the disruption. Accordingly, on that basis, I determine that compensation is not payable in this case.”
I disputed the ADR FINAL DETERMINATION as I believed that the Determination contains a factual error or an error on a point of law.
ADR Revised FINAL DETERMINATION
I am not satisfied that the Airline have demonstrated a causal link between the claimed ATC restrictions applied to the preceding flight, and the delay of the preceding flight and the subsequent overnight delay of the Flight. The Airline has stated that the delay to the preceding flight resulted in the Flight crew running out of hours and the Flight being delayed overnight. Consequently, I am satisfied that the reason for the Flight crew running out of FDP hours, resulting in the Passenger arriving at their final destination airport by over three hours, cannot be considered an extraordinary circumstance within the context of the Regulation. Whilst I acknowledge that the Airline has demonstrated that the rescheduled Flight was subject to 31 minutes of ATC restrictions, I am satisfied that the delay to the Flight from nonextraordinary circumstances was still over three hours after deducting this delay from the overall delay to the Flight in accordance with the case C-315/15 Pešková. As such, I determine that the Airline cannot rely on the exemption to paying compensation under Recital 14 of the Regulation in this case and therefore compensation is due to the Passenger. Having reviewed http://www.gcmap.com/dist?P=dlm-man&DU=km&SU=mph, I am satisfied that the distance between Dalaman airport and Manchester airport is 3,028 km and therefore the amount of compensation in accordance with Article 7 of the Regulation is £350.00 per Passenger, total of £700.00 for two Passengers.

2023.06.01 00:26 mgineer One Year Surgery Update -- Experience after having Diverticulitis for Several Years

I had surgery one year ago in May of 2022. I had diverticulitis for a number of years. I was first diagnosed when I was 38. After my surgery last year, I said that I wish I would have had the surgery sooner. I still think it was too risky for me to wait as long as I did to have surgery.
Here’s a summary of my experience in the year since I had surgery:
  1. I have not had any additional episodes of diverticulitis since my surgery and I have not taken any additional antibiotics.
  2. I have been fully recovered from my surgery for probably nine months. At first, I was careful in the gym about doing too many leg lifts or crunches. That’s no longer a concern.
  3. My scars healed great. I used 100% silicone scar cream, which maybe helped.
  4. I still have diverticulosis in other parts of my colon. Because of this, I still minimize the amount of nuts, seeds, and popcorn that I eat.
  5. Based on my Doctor’s recommendation, I took Colace stool softener for several months to minimize straining. I took Colace daily for probably 6 months, then every other day for maybe another 3 months. Now, I only take it as needed. I did fell a little pain a couple of times after straining, so I am trying to be very careful about this.
  6. Overall, my diet is very normal / typical now. I eat a moderate amount of fiber. I don’t totally avoid any foods.
Here's the original summary that I posted a couple of weeks after my surgery last year in May of 2022. It summarizes my surgery experience and recommendations:
  1. Over the last couple of years my attacks became more frequent and more severe without me being able to identify a specific trigger. All of my episodes were uncomplicated and I was never admitted to the hospital. I could manage most attacks with fluids, diet, and rest. But I also had several attacks that required antibiotics.
  2. While I wanted to delay elective surgery, I also really wanted to avoid emergency surgery. I had a friend who had emergency surgery a year ago. His experience helped me re-frame whether it was a good idea for me to keep delaying my surgery.
  3. I had an attack in the middle of last year that required a round of antibiotics to clear.
  4. I did a colonoscopy in December and my Surgeon's advice was to strongly consider surgery.
  5. I had another attack in March. I had a CT scan done which showed severe diverticulitis and required another round of antibiotics. That convinced me that it was time for surgery.
  6. To recover from the attack and prepare for surgery, I was careful about what I ate, lost a few pounds, and got in better shape.
  7. The prep the day before surgery was similar to colonoscopy prep. My prep included taking antibiotics.
  8. Before the surgery, my Surgeon mentioned that the colon mostly experiences pain when expanding outward and that I wouldn't feel colon pain from the surgery. He was correct, I never felt internal pain like during an attack.
  9. My surgery was scheduled for 8am and lasted until 11am. I was in recovery for about an hour. I only remember leaving the pre-op area and then waking up in my hospital room.
  10. When I woke in the hospital room, I was not in much pain. Like maybe a level 2. The Anesthesiologist injected a couple of long-lasting numbing shots in my abdominal muscle which he said would last from 4 to 48 hours. I think it lasted about 8 hours for me which was helpful.
  11. The surgery pain I had was from the incision sites and from the gas used to inflate your abdomen. I had laparoscopic and robotic surgery with 4 small incisions and a larger incision on my lower right abdomen which was used for colon removal. I had 6.5 inches of my sigmoid colon removed.
  12. I did not have external stitches or bandages. All of my incisions are dermabond glued closed. It's like a layer of super glue over the incisions. I'm currently day 11 post surgery and all of the dermabond is still there.
  13. Lying in bed after surgery, I really didn't have much pain. Like maybe a 1 or 2.
  14. The pain when getting in or out of bed at first felt similar to an attack, like maybe a level 7. I also had some pain in my diaphragm and upper right chest / shoulder from the gas used to inflate my abdomen. The abdominal gas pain made it difficult to take a deep breath.
  15. My hospital did not "schedule" pain meds other than Tylenol. My surgeon prescribed stronger pain meds and muscle relaxers, but I had to "ask" for them. I took me some time to understand that I had to request the stronger pain meds. The pain meds made it much easier to get in and out of bed, sit, stand, and walk.
  16. The big objectives in the hospital were: a) standing, which I did the afternoon of my surgery, b) urinating, (I had a catheter inserted during surgery), which started happening the afternoon of my surgery, c) passing gas, which I think first happened the morning after my surgery, d) walking, which I did the day after surgery, e) bowel movement, which also happened the day after surgery.
  17. My surgery was Tuesday morning and I was discharged Friday morning. My wife spent the first night in the hospital with me. I had great night nurses and didn't need her the second and third nights.
  18. I was initially on a "full liquid" diet which allowed things like yogurt and pudding. After the BM, I was advanced to a low-residue, low-fiber diet which allowed solid foods.
  19. The hospital provided an "abdomen compression binder" which helped when moving and walking. I'd recommend buying one if the hospital doesn't provide one.
  20. For home I bought a bed step stool with a handle which helped getting in and out of bed.
  21. When I was discharged on Friday, I was prescribed a pain med and a muscle relaxer. My Doctor also recommended Colace stool softener.
  22. I think about 80% of my pain was from the larger incision site and 20% from my belly button incision site (where I also had a small umbilical hernia that was fixed during surgery. I never felt much pain from the other 3 small incision sites.
  23. I started tapering my at-home pain meds after about 3 days. I stopped taking all pain meds after 5 days at home (8 days after surgery).
  24. I'm currently on a low residue, low fiber diet. I have my 2-week follow-up appointment on Tuesday. I'll probably be allowed to gradually advance my diet.
  25. My post-surgery restrictions are: a) no swimming or bath for 4 weeks, b) don't lift anything heavier than 20 pounds for 6 weeks.
  26. I was able to take 2 weeks of short-term disability which was very helpful. I'm planning to go back to work next Tuesday which is 2 weeks post-surgery. My job is currently work from home and I don't think I'll have any issues. If you have a physically active job, you may want to plan for more time off.
I have diverticulosis in other parts of my colon, so I'll continue to be careful with my diet and potential triggers. I've avoided nuts, seeds, popcorn, and spicy foods. Having the right amount of fiber was important in managing my diverticulitis. Too much or too little fiber both caused issues. I standardized on eating high-fiber cereal (Kashi GO) for breakfast with kefir or a probiotic.
I'd tried a number of other things including VSL #3, mesalamine, butyrate, resistant starch. I didn't notice a benefit from these, but my condition may have been too advanced.
The pathology report from my surgery indicated that I did have a perforation in the past that healed itself. I feel good about having had the surgery. I hope you find this information helpful.

2023.05.31 23:34 nijntjenanny Multiple infants nanny share advice

TLDR because this is long: I recently started as the nanny in a nanny share with two 7-month-olds and I have had a hard time staying on top of things. I feel like my quality of care is lower than usual when it’s both of them, and I’m not able to eat lunch because I’m so busy juggling them. Getting them to nap is especially hard because their wake windows rarely line up. NFs want to support me but I don’t know what I need.
~
I have been watching Avocado since February and Banana since the first week of May. They were both born in October 2022, less than a week apart. I’m a new nanny and outside of this, I’ve only worked with toddlers & up.
On Mon & Fri, I’m only with Banana. On Weds, I’m only with Avocado. Tues/Thurs are the nanny share days at Avocado’s house. All days start in the late morning and go until late afternoon. The parents WFH and will step in if I need something but they aren’t intrusive.
I’m confident with the babies individually, and they’re both pretty easygoing. However, every share day, I feel like I’ve lost control of the situation and I’m constantly scrambling without breathing time.
The main issue seems to be coordinating naps, since Avocado has a routine but no schedule and Banana has a schedule but is currently in a sleep regression. One of them will fall asleep only to be woken up by the other making noise. We have sleep setups in the nursery and the bedroom, but lately both have wanted to be rocked to sleep in the only rocking chair, which is in the nursery.
Both NFs have been asking me what I need to be successful, and I have no idea what would help. I’m very thankful that they’ve been supportive and things are getting a bit better, but I’d love some advice.

2023.05.31 23:27 RonJake Calling on Engineers (specifically Environmental Engineers) for career advice for a recent Environmental Engineer Grad. What should I do?

I posted this in EnvironmentalEngineer so I am copying and pasting this here as well.
So I am in need of some career advice. I (24M) recently graduated with a masters in Environmental Engineering in December 2022, I graduated with a Bachelors in Earth and Environmental Science in 2020. I am looking for an entry level environmental engineer (water resources, wastewater) position and I have been job searching since December. While I have gotten a few interviews (initial Phone call then first interview) no company seems to want to take a chance with me (I live in NJ). I have taken a look at my resume and figured that there are 2 reasons why I am not getting the job I want: 1. I am not an EIT (I am scheduled to take my FE Environmental Exam in August 2023 and have begun studying since the beginning of May. I was never really pushed to take the FE exam during college but it seems that to even begin entry level, you need the EIT designation. Some job postings will say (EIT a plus) and well I figured EIT's are the ones getting hired (my old company that I interned at flat out told me most of their offices only hire EIT's and I found that a month ago)). 2. I could use more job experience (I did an internship at a consultancy firm last summer and was a field laborer for an environmental remediation contracting company 2 years before. Most job postings are looking for 0-3 years for entry level and the interviews I've had really take interest in what I did at the consultancy firm. I was also a lab assistant for 6 months for one of my professors during my bachelors.) So instead of feeling sorry for myself that no one wants me and feeling like a loser, I want to take action. What I have begun doing, along with studying for my FE Environmental Exam, is to try and start applying to environmental science jobs. If I land one, I figure I will do that until I hopefully pass my FE exam then try and sidestep to an environmental engineer position. Is this a good course of action? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have no debt and have some cash in the bank, should I just suck up not being employed until I hopefully pass my FE exam in August? (I heard studying for the FE exam while working is manageable as long as you forgo your social life and diet lol). At this point I seriously doubt I'll be hired for an entry level EnvEng position without an EIT designation. I have also figured I can maybe do another internship (paid or non-paid) with some local companies to get some more experience, would that be a good idea? I live maybe a minute's walk away from a P.E.'s office but they do civil and structural work for the town, still... experience is experience. Like I said, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2023.05.31 23:00 Ssavell HLR question for combined claim

So back in 2022 I was awarded 10% for my back from a fractured vertebrae. During the exam with QTC, I was new to the process and they never used the goniometer and although I mentioned radiculopathy symptoms, they were never captured by the nurse practitioner. It was an awful exam and he kept interrupting to make verbal notes and long story short I didn’t get a favorable rating since I had back spasms and also radiculopathy symptoms.
I started seeing the VA doctor since I was now service connected and prescribed medicine for back spasms and pain. Mentioned my radiculopathy symptoms and he recommended physical therapy which I am scheduled for.
This year I filed an increase for my back and also a secondary for radiculopathy due to my back and both claims combined into 1. I received a C&P exam for the secondary claim first and at the apt he only asked questions and didn’t perform straight leg raise test or a diagnosis (which I didn’t currently have). I saw the report on blue button and he did not diagnose it and put less likely than not. So expecting that one to be denied.
However during my back increase C&P through QTC, they used the goniometer this time, he listened to all symptoms and documented the increased radiculopathy symptoms and stated that he was going to write it up as sciatica in both legs most likely due to my service connected back injury.
My question is can I request an HLR for the secondary radiculopathy (assuming it’s getting denied) and have them refer to the QTC opinion from the increase C&P exam since they combined the claim?
