Family Prayers Sunday, May 28th 2023

05/28/2023

Everyday Verse

Matthew 21:22

ESV

  • And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
KJV
  • And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
NLV
  • All things you ask for in prayer, you will receive if you have faith.”

What does Matthew 21:22 mean?

Jesus' statement to the disciples is a powerful promise, and it fits with what He has often said when healing the sick and afflicted and casting out demons (Matthew 9:22; 15:28). God cares deeply that His people trust Him and Him alone to do what they ask. God's power, of course, is limitless. Anything is possible for Him (Luke 1:37). Jesus has made it clear, though, that those who want God to use His power in a specific way must have deep confidence of His ability to do what they ask.
Jesus said something similar to the twelve earlier in Matthew, making it clear that this power was available to them only in and through Jesus Himself: "If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them" (Matthew 18:19–20).
It's important to recognize that this promise from Jesus to the disciples can be misunderstood or misused. He is not saying to them or to the believers to follow in the coming generations that we can demand whatever we want from God in whatever form or fashion we want it and He is required to give it to us. He is still God, and we remain His creatures and children through faith in Jesus.
Christ specifically tells the disciples they will receive anything they ask—but only if they have faith. This means trust in God and His power to do what He wants to do. It also means an alignment with the will of God—it does not mean using the Creator as a vending machine. It's noteworthy that these men, who heard Jesus make these promises (John 14:13–14), did not attempt grandiose, unnecessary miracles as part of their future ministry.
Part of asking "in faith" is trusting God to do what is most fitting with His purpose for us and the world. We can always be confident of God's power as well as His goodness to do what is best. The promise and the condition both need to be understood, and both still stand. Receiving powerful things from God starts with believing He is able, making the request, and being convinced that His response will be both capable and loving.

Quote of Prayer

Andrew Murray
"Beware in your prayers, above everything else, of limiting God, not only by unbelief, but by fancying that you know what He can do. Expect unexpected things above all that we ask or think."
Let's Pray:
We come back this evening, our Father, to continue our prayer for the coming of Your kingdom. The day is past and the work of Your servants is done. Thousands of ministers have preached Your word, tens of thousands of teachers have taught the children, and in millions of Christian homes there have been supplications and prayers. Let not all this work be lost. May Your Spirit gather up all that has been done for You, and give it Your divine blessing, without which nothing can result from it.
Revive Your work in this land and in the world, through this Sunday's ministrations. May many of Your children carry new earnestness and zeal into their living and their work tomorrow. May the seeds sown in the furrows, take root and grow. Let not the birds gather up and devour what has been sown. Let not the thorns spring up and choke it. Let not the heat of trial waste the tender growths. May the good seed grow wherever it has been sown, and may abundant harvests wave on thousands of fields. Prosper You Your own work on the earth.
May Your peace rest upon our home tonight. May the gentle Dove descend and spread his white wings over us, sheltering us while we sleep. May holy influences rest upon us from Sunday, and may its teachings and impressions abide upon us all the week. May each one of us be kept from the world's unhallowed power. Hold us all near Your heart, in the warmth of Your love, in the strong security of Your grace. May the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God our Father, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit be upon us forever. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

2023.05.28 23:35 BothExplanation5890 This may be unfavorable, but I believe PC gaming is dead.

I've never in my life seen so many issues that go along with computer gaming. You can't say it's good and well, because it's not. I've switched throughout the years between Intel, AMD, ATi, and Nvidia, they all have had their bumps but I really don't know what to think about PC Gaming's current state of affairs.
I don't care about $1600 GPUs, if a 4090 is worth it, I'd buy it. I put a decent amount in my most recent build and sure it has it's goods, but holy cow there are a lot of bads, not with my build but PC gaming in general. Games being released that are so poorly made I feel there should be lawsuits against these companies for false advertisement. If I buy a game, I expect it to work... sorry that's how consumerism works. Don't sell me garbage that every week there are new bugs... I'm not a programmer, that's not what I do for a living. I don't want to debug and figure your mess out just so I feel I didn't waste my money on your product you released far too early.
There is zero quality control in this industry, none. My biggest two examples were playing RDR2 online with my buddies after work. Me and one of my friends both have 3080s and he was constantly having issues left and right and out of the 4 hours we played, we maybe played 2 hours of actual gametime. This went on for 6 to 7 days maybe. After a long day's work and figuring out computer issues, troubleshooting endless hours, it's ludicrous. Then my RDR2 stopped a week later. Rockstar "launcher" won't even launch the game. I messed with it for a couple days, noticing others had this issue too, but there's no viable fix. Of course I had 16 hours of gameplay so no refund is possible, which I'm not tripping about. It's the grand nature of it all.
Don't go pouncing on my next mentioned title as everyone knows it had major problems at launch, more so than any game I ever remember. But BF2042 has been really solid in Season 4. They seemed to have tweaked everything and fixed nearly every problem, minus spawning 4x in a row and not even opening your eyes before dying... that's always fun. Or when vehicles can no longer move, you press E to get out, and you randomly die even though the vehicle didn't run you over or anything...
I don't know. After seeing the recent LOTR Gollum garbage, how pitiful the 4060 TI appears to be, I think at large, these companies know good and well people will pay money at the end of the day regardless. Heck, I would... and I did. It's one of my hobbies. This post is absolutely, positively nothing against the PC Gaming community. I've enjoyed building and playing over the past couple decades, some great memories along the way. I didn't PC game for nearly 10 years and decided to randomly do a build last December. I put roughly $4K into everything which I'm not sweating nor disappointed, but I can't help but wonder how many other ladies and gents put their hard-earned money into a build and then game devs and hardware devs take total advantage of us. I feel we should go on strike at this point, though it clearly wouldn't do a thing. The fact x3d AM5 chips are burning out randomly on Asus x670 boards, AMD flagship cards lacking in features (still great cards, but I ain't paying a grand for a card that cannot offer raytracing at 1440P or 4k)... I dunno my friends, these times we are in, the pc gaming community is living behind a massive veil of corporate greed, on all sides. Companies won't release proper titles on PC but instead port them over... great work. Really glad Madden 23 isn't even "next gen" on PC and is equivalent to a PS4 when it comes to gameplay, control, and rendering. EA, do you even know why people PC game in the first place?
Sorry for the very long rant, it's just getting to me. I simply cannot buy a game any longer without doing a lot of in dept research to see if the game will even be playable or how the content is. I mean, there are people with burned up 3080 ti's from Diablo IV Beta due to the incompetency of Nvidia... these are not small matters by any means and they should NEVER EVER be the consumer's fault for buying a product and operating it as advertised and it goes up in flames. It's not right.
I know I barely scratched the surface and the list goes on and on. It doesn't help other than merely vent it all out. Just tired of the way things currently are.

Anyways, love you guys. Enjoy your Sunday evening and thanks for those of you that heard me out dealing with my frustration.

2023.05.28 22:50 Cozysweetpea How do you keep the Sabbath holy?

I've come to a bit in my Bible study book that's about keeping Sundays holy. I have recently become Christian and I am trying to find ways to keep that promise to God. I think I might do some self care eg face masks and video games as well as find time to Bible study and pray/contemplate things and connect with God. What are your ideas for Sundays?
Edit: of course attending church would be ideal but for now because of my mental health I'm finding it difficult to leave the house

2023.05.28 21:52 ShadowWarriorK If Saturday is the sabbath as the Bible says, is it wrong to go to church on Sunday?

This would be while also keeping Saturday as the sabbath. No seventh day church in my town, all are on Sundays.
Exodus 20:8-11: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”
Jesus and his followers also kept Saturday holy.

CLOSED

Your Journey Begins...
On the eastern edge of the Known World. Something has drawn you to the quaint village of Hommlet. Perhaps you are a curious human, your line of work requires it, or maybe your lineage is even rumored to trace back to the fey. Within Hommlet, various folks seek out a rumored holy grail of sorts believed to be in a grand keep deep within the land of many names.
Just a few miles past Hommlet is the land of many names; the Hinterlands, the Wildlands, the Feywoods, the Mythic Forest, Dolmenwood. All names synonymous for a land that is deeply tied to nature and arcane wonder, where humanity is not meant to go far, and the forlorn ruins of an ancient era stand as testament.
Hello everyone. I'm not the GM but the GM is looking for one to two players to join for a weekly Cairn (not 5e) campaign, Sundays from 1-5 PM CDT. Newbies are very much welcome as well! I will run it through Discord vc, character sheets will be on Google Sheets, and maps will be on Owlbear Rodeo. Cairn is a free rules-lite ruleset that focuses on growth through survival and creative use of your tools.
Session 0 was today and we're going over safety tools, the game rules, character creation, and a quick encounter to get a feel for the game. We'll help you get set up for the coming sessions. The campaign will be heavy on exploration and interacting with local factions that have their own goals for the land of many names. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

2023.05.28 20:14 Dyelo456 “Embracing the unfamiliar: My first Latin Mass experience”

I recently attended my first Latin Mass, and it turned out to be a fascinating and enjoyable experience. The Latin Mass was a departure from my usual worship service, offering a unique perspective. Initially, I found it challenging to comprehend the Latin language used during the Mass, and it sounded unfamiliar to me. However, despite the language barrier, I could appreciate the beauty in its rhythm and solemnity.
What struck me the most was the emphasis placed on the Eucharist and its consecration. The Latin Mass seemed to center around the profound significance of the Holy Communion. It was different from what I was accustomed to, particularly as there was no requirement to say "amen" before receiving the Holy Communion. This deviation from the norm piqued my curiosity and sparked further contemplation.
It was unfortunate to learn that the morning Saturday Mass I attended did not count towards the Sunday Mass attendance required for Catholics. While later Saturday Masses are considered valid for fulfilling the Sunday obligation, morning Masses do not meet this requirement. The reason behind this distinction lies in the ancient Jewish tradition of observing the Sabbath, which begins at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday. As the Saturday evening Masses take place after sundown, they are considered part of the Sunday liturgy. However, morning Masses on Saturday are still considered part of the previous day's liturgy and do not fulfill the Sunday obligation.
Overall, attending the Latin Mass was a positive and enriching experience. Despite the initial language barrier and the unfamiliar practices, I found solace in the solemnity and reverence displayed throughout the service. As a result, I am genuinely interested in attending another Latin Mass in the future, to explore its unique traditions and deepen my spiritual journey.

2023.05.28 19:38 EnvironmentalEdge675 Lazy Sunday stroll

Today we left the house prepared for the worst of the holiday weekend crowd. I had my game face on and all the treats ready from low to high value. Nothing could have prepared me for this walk though.
We stepped out the door to beautiful weather (nightmare walking weather) and just... walked. We practically STROLLED. So many people, dogs, cars, squirrels, birds, rabbits, bikes, strollers, scooters, cars with trailers, and the ultimate enemy (for my dog) KIDS YELLING AND RUNNING. He just walked. Sniffed grass, asked for treats, played some tug. It was downright lazy Sunday walking.
Today my boy demonstrated all the time and effort we've put in. He had zero reactions and had really relaxed/happy body language about 90% of the two miles. Normally I'd turn us around sooner but he kept going and kept calm. This walk isn't just out of the blue, we spent countless hours and energy to get here, but it still took me by surprise.
Not every walk will be this way, but holy cow does it feel amazing when i can just hang out with my dog. Last year we couldn't have done this, i wouldn't have bothered being in town this weekend. Last year this time i was contemplating rehoming. We'd been told meds weren't a good option for him. The vet behaviorist told me how to start working on some of his issues and to reach out if there was no improvement. He wasn't beyond hope by any means. However we, as a team, were really struggling.
As i write this and look back at the last year I'm so proud of him and i. We've come far and function more like team i want to be. We used to be two critters who couldn't speak the same language tied together by a leash. Today we spoke easily throughout the whole walk, no miscommunication or missed signals, no frustration. It honestly felt like i was having a whole conversation.
"You cool with that barking dog? " "yeah I'm good" "did you see that squirrel? It was massive!" "Yeah it was pretty big you're definitely right" "That kids a little close maybe we move away?" "absolutely let's do that" "Lots of cars over here" "maybe we'll go this way instead"
Now he's napping on the porch next to me without a care in the world. We'll probably play some fetch, and go out to the woods to run later. Maybe I'll call a friend and see if a known buddy dog wants to come play off leash for a bit. Maybe we'll visit his grandma. The world is our oyster today, not every day will be this way but man, What a day.
TLDR- Dog has nice long and relaxing walk, sees many things and has neutral reactions. Person feels proud and happy. Dog naps.

2023.05.28 19:35 aaronjaffe Just remember, we’re living in the timeline with the potential to extract the most emotional pain possible from Celtics fans.

Take a moment to look at how this has played out, and put yourself in the mind of a Celtics fan (but not too deep, that’s not healthy).
Game 1 - We should’ve won that. Whatever, we have games like that at home sometimes.
Game 2 - Did we just drop two games at home? Wtf. Mazulla isn’t ready for this, we need a new coach. But our team is better, everyone in the media says so. Remember the Bucks series last season? We’ll dig ourselves out, we’ll be fine. Im not in denial, you’re in denial!
Game 3 - No. NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Mazulla needs to be burned at the stake. Is Grant the only one who’s trying? Trade Jaylen. Fuck it, trade Tatum. Burn TD Garden to the ground and build anew. This is the worst thing to ever happen in Boston athletics. EVER. Oh well, I guess being a Celts fan is a marathon, not a sprint.
Game 4 - Well, at least we got a little self respect back. I still can’t believe we’re losing to a bunch of undrafted players. I’m not watching those scrubs play the Nuggets in the finals.
Game 5 - Holy shit! I almost forgot how fucking good this team can be. The media was right! We are better. We shot 40% from 3! Maybe I was too harsh on Joe Mazz… did you see him call that time out?! Taytum was a beast …maybe…no, I shouldn’t let myself dream…but maybe….
Game 6 - OH MY GOD, LORD AND SAVIOR Derrick White. Derrick fucking White! I can put my finger on it but there’s something about his last name I really like. But we’re really going to do this! We’re making history just like the fucking Sox! This is a team of destiny. I never doubted Taytum and Brown could work together. And Joe is the best rookie coach ever! This is so emotional!Im going to need so many tissues when this 30 for 30 comes out (and I’m not saying for what).
Game 7 - [The memorial service will be held on Sunday Jun 4th. In their note deceased has requested no one wear anything green to the service. They also specifically requested that Marcus Smart be barred from attending. “Heat 122-103. You did this to me Mazzula” is being carved into their tombstone as per their wishes.]

2023.05.28 19:32 Essex626 Sunday School teacher at my Baptist church just said Catholics don't believe the Holy Spirit is God.

He's ex-Catholic!
Y'all, this is why I ask for your charity toward us dumb Protestants. This brother was clearly very poorly catechized, and didn't understand the faith he grew up with. (He's in his 60s, and I understand that catechesis in the 60s and 70s was in a pretty bad spot)
And that's what Protestants learn about Catholicism from--ex-Catholics like him who have little understanding of their own faith. We spend our whole lives hearing what you guys believe from people who left Catholicism, and so many of those were poorly taught and didn't understand their own theology, which is probably why they left to begin with.
He said Catholics view the Holy Spirit as love personified, not God personified, and that they often associate Him with a feminine aspect and pronoun.
I just can't believe how ignorant he is of Catholicism.
I appreciate y'all, and just wanted to share that to give a picture of why some Protestants (Baptists especially) are so anti-Catholic while believing such weird things about Catholicism.

EASTER WITH AVOCADO

A tribute to Carpdime’s Avocado

Featuring art by Carpdime & PeppermintParchment
~
“You’re becoming a big boy, Avo!”
It was a warm day in early March when Melissa made the statement. The snow had thawed not too long ago, and the cold of winter had mostly dissipated. And indeed, Avo was now in what could be considered the adolescent phase of his upbringing. Our little green foal had been about the size of a finger as a new-born, and then the size of a hand. But having passed half a year of age, he was starting to experience the larger growth spurts. Now, Avocado was the size of a potted plant, just like one near the window. And yet, he was still the same loveable little foal Melissa knew when she first fed him that burrito all those months ago.
Reflecting on his current size, Melissa felt a little inspired.
“Avo!”
“Yus, gwamma?”
“Picture time!” she said, holding up a polaroid camera.
“Oh goodie! Fwuffy wub picshas!”
And indeed, Avocado loved those human things called “fotos”. Whether they magically came out of a polaroid, or if they were printed out from a computer, he was enamoured with how memories could be captured in those contraptions. He sometimes wondered, what bizarre “sains” could achieve a miracle such as this. It was very much a feat of magic.

Foal by the pot (Artist: Carpdime)
Grandma slowly placed Avo beside the pot. Avo was a little confused as to why Grandma picked that spot of all places, but he went with it.
“Say Cheese!”
Cheese!!”
And with a flash, the picture was taken. The polaroid camera whirred, and a photograph came out.
“Beautiful shot,” grandma beamed, as she looked at the photograph of Avocado. She then commented, “my little angel.”
Angel. Avocado had heard that word before a few times, especially in a certain way. And it was at this point that Avo decided to ask a big question.
“Gwamma, wai ‘ou sez fwuffy am wike a wingie-hummeh?”
“Winged human? Oh, you mean, why am I comparing you to an angel?”
“Yus,” Avocado nodded.
“Well, my little cherub – you’ve been a good boy. You behave yourself, you listen to your daddy, as well as to your grandpa and I.”
Avocado remember when his granpa told him about the winged humans. But he also reminded that period, when he was exposed to a unique name. It led Avocado to ask a rather peculiar question.
“Gwamma, huu am Cheezas?”
Melissa was a little taken aback. She was not sure if she was ready to answer that question. Nevertheless, she smiled, and tried her best.
“Well, Jesus was a very good human. When people had the worstest sick, he healed them. When people. He was a good story teller, and he told many important stories to people he knew.”
“And gwampa sez Cheezas am tawk to da wingie hummehs?”
“That he talked to the angels…. Why, why yes he would. He talked to a lot of people, but I think he definitely talked to the Angels.”
“Gwamma, wen babbeh had wowstest huwties, did ‘ou hab tawkies wif Cheesas?”
~
Not too long after Chapter 7
Avocado was at the vet. He was still recovering from his fight with Bullsquid. Earlier, his teacher Candy and his friends had visited him. Now, he was being visited by his grandmother, Melissa. The mother of his daddeh, watching over him.
“Gwamma….”
“Shh… please rest Avo.”
As she said this, she started to hum a song.
“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved, a wretch, like me Who once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now, can see.”
Melissa’s song was like a soothing and reassuring balm to Avo’s pain. After a while, he was able to close his eyes. And yet, the pain was preventing him from sleeping fully just yet. His senses prevailed, and it would be a while before he could fully drift into the realm of sleep.
Avo could hear the words from his grandmother, saying something rather odd.
“Please, please Jesus, please watch over little Avocado. He’s our special little boy.”
~
As Avocado related that memory to Melissa, she was a little astounded by the rather clear memory that Avo had. And yet, she felt a little touched.
“Yes, Avo. I was talking to Jesus. I was praying.”
“Pwaying”?
Prayer would be a difficult word to convert into fluffspeak. Melissa had to be concise with what she meant.
“Having talks with Jesus. Talking to him. Praying, its not the same as playing. But you know that words can have more than one meaning.”
Melissa had not anticipated Avocado to ask such a question related to her faith. And while she tried to give answers, it led to even more questions.
“Buh… Cheezas nuu dewe.”
“Well, it’s like, Jesus is with us in spirit.”
“Whut am spiwit?”
“Spirit is like…. Spirit is like something we all have. Humans, fluffies, animals, we all have a spirit, a soul. And Jesus is with us in spirit. He doesn’t have to be there to be with us in spirit.”
“Abo nah suwe ib undah-stahn. It am wike daddeh am wif us in spiwit?”
“Is your dad with us in spirit…. Why yes, you could say that.”
Avo was ecstatic when he heard that.
“So, when daddeh hab tawkies wif Avo, den am daddeh’s spiwit!”
Melissa couldn’t help but laugh as she heard that sentence. Avo was clearly mistaken, though he couldn’t be faulted. And that slight confusion also provided a chance.
“It’s not quite the same thing.
Also Avo, we need to go over your math lessons.”
~
The incident had left Melissa reflecting quite a bit. So much so that she ended up mentioning it to Harold after Avo went to bed.
“Dear, Avo has been interested in Jesus lately.”
“Oh, really?” Harold respondend nonchalantly. At that time, his mind was focused on the newspaper in his hands.
“Should tell him more about Jesus? And Church?”
“Do we have to? I mean, he’s a fluffy. Its not like he needs to go to church.”
“Well, we did him take to church on Christmas.”
“That was Christmas.”
“And Harold, you’ve seen some of the community bring their fluffies to church. And those are well-behaved. And the Father has not made a fuss about it.”
Deciding to give Melissa a bit more time of his day, he moved the newspaper out of his sight, as he faced her.
“What are you implying?”
“Why don’t we at least let Avo know a bit more about our faith?”
~
An elderly man was entering the book shop of his neighbourhood church. Earlier, he had been at the nearest fluffmart and had attempted to enquire about a specific kind of book written in fluffspeak, on a topic that he imagined some fluffies would be interested in.
“I’m sorry sir, we don’t carry that kind of product here.”
It was a genuine response, the kind given by a young man who was fully aware of the inventory he was tasked with, and was also merely doing his job.
“Alright then, where can I find such a book?”
“Have you tried your church? I heard the shops were carrying those kinds of books.”
The old man was a little taken aback. It was not that he wasn’t a god-fearing man. However, he had been avoiding attendance at the local place of worship for most of the months, aside from an appearance at Easter and Christmas. Yet, he knows that his spouse would always dutifully attend the church service every week. And now, she made a request to him that, while unusual, he could not help but oblige.
A few hours later he found himself at the entrance of the church. As he walked towards the entrance, he could hear the ringing of the bells and the marching of the people walking up towards the priest to received their Daily Bread. It was impromptu, perhaps even uncouth, yet our old man found himself joining the line.
“Amen.”
After the service had concluded, our old man made his way to the adjacent shop located near the church. It had all the religious iconography and texts one would expect from a shop like this., And yet, our old man would never imagine he’d ask for books of this specific nature.
“Why yes, we do!”
And as she says this, she shopkeeper brings our old man to a small but dedicated section of the church bookshop. Looking over the wares, it resembled a lot of the religious books he had read as a child, and he too had passed to his son. Filled with cartoonish imagery and gentle language. The difference, of course, was that the language was the even more simplistic fluffspeak, as these were religious books that were meant to teach the catechism in as simple a manner as possible.
“I’m a bit surprised that our church carries books on this.”
“Well, fluffies aren’t quite like ordinary animals, are they? They kind of speak like us, although a bit limited. And they can understand some concepts better than the average animal.”
“But doesn’t the Church say that animals don’t have souls? I think one of the past Popes said that animals aren’t called to Heaven.”
“Ah, but Pope John Paul II said that animals will join us in Heaven. As did Pope Benedict.”
“But aren’t fluffies artificial animals? I remember they were marketed as toys.”
“They do have an artificial origin, but most fluffies are born, live and die just like us. And with their ability to learn and develop, they are very humanlike. It is a complicated topic, and different religions have different says on it. Our current Pope has asked us not to discount fluffies despite their artificial origin, as they are not that different from human clones.”
The old man was a little confused by the past discussion.
“It just seems so different from how things were when I was younger.”
“Well, times change I guess.”
He had heard those words before. He remembered hearing him from his firstborn, on the day when he had opted not to go to Church anymore.
Briefly flipping the pages, Harold recognized some of the stories in the book. It reminded him a lot of a similar book he passed to Mark, once upon a time. Only difference was that the language used here was in the seeming indecipherable fluffspeak, which had its own lexicon, and grammatical rules separate from “standard” English. Remembering the unique fluffspeak and the complexity of teaching fluffies to be familiar with their interactions with the human world, it prompted Harold to ask another question.
“Is there a bible in fluffspeak?”
“There are! But people usually don’t buy them.”
“That’s odd. You’d think that, if owners are trying to get fluffies to be Christians, they’d have them read the Bible.”
“Yes, but fluffies usually don’t have the attention span to manage long books. Most children’s bibles are made based on the premise that the adult reads with the child. However, not a lot of fluffies express an interest in religion beyond following what their owners tell them about the faith, or learning how to pray. Its why we don’t import a lot of the Bibles in fluffspeak.”
~
Avocado was enamoured by the book he was reading. It was written in simple fluffspeak. But it told so many different stories.
There was the story of Nowa, and how he built a large boat so large that he could put his family and every animal on it. The boat helped his family survive a terrible storm of wawa that flooded the land. There was the story of Moses, who was helping his people leave a terrible place to find a new home and, with the help of Sky-daddeh, was able to part the sea into two. There was the story of Debid, a humble sheep herder who went up against the big bully Gowiat, and would later become King.
And then there was Cheezas. Cheezas, who could turn water into wine. Cheezas, who healed a blind man, and allowed him to see. Cheezas, who could walk on wawa. Cheezas, the storyteller, who told many stories, including the one about the prodigal son, and how the son came back to his daddeh. And how said daddeh loved both of his sons equally, even the one who stayed loyal by his side.
It was a very fun storybook. To Avo, it was just a storybook. But it had stories he wanted to share with his friends.
~
“Class, we have a special guest today. His name is Ajit.”
The orange foal was different from everyone else in the class, by virtue of having a piece of cloth wrapped around his head. His owner was a big man, with a very bushy beard. And like his charge, what was just unique about him was a larger cloth that he was wearing that was wrapped around his head.
“Fwuffy hab big happies to meet ‘ou aww.”
“Why fwen am weawing a siwwy hat?”
As Chilli asked that, the entire class giggled. Even the bearded man laughed. With a smile, Amber explained, “Ajit here, like his owner, is a Sikh.”
“Fwuffy hab wowstest sickies?”
“No, it’s the herd he belongs to.”
Trying to explain a religion to fluffies is difficult, and trying to explain to them the existence of other religions would be even more difficult. Any person would balk at the idea of their community being compared to with a herd, but Mr Singh was familiar with the limited capacity and knowledge that fluffies had.
Ajit’s week at East Side Daycare went as normally as it did for any visiting fluffy. He took part in the activities, played at lunch time, he could eat most of the food as he did not have any dietary complications nor restriction, and he generally was friendly with everybody at the daycare. But there was one little incident that affected Avo a little when it came to Ajit. And it happened during the middle of the week.
Avo had been sharing with his friends about the stories from the book that’s his grandparents had given him. Almost all of his classmates had interest in the stories, and listened to him attentively. However, when Ajit started hearing about Cheezas, he merely shook his and went off to play with the blocks by himself.
Avo was wondering if there was something wrong. Finishing the story about the time Cheezas walked on water, and amazed his friends, he went up to Ajit.
“Hewwo, fwen.”
Ajit remained silent.
“Fwen?”
The only response was the sound of the stacking of blocks. “Fwen am otay.”
In a huff, Ajit turned out around. He did it so quickly, one of his hooves hit the stack, and the blocks claim tumbling down.
“Wook. ‘ou beweib in Cheezas, but dat am yer sky daddeh. Nuh mine. Fwuffy nu beweib in yer Cheezas.
Nao. Pwease weave fwuffy awone.”
Avocado was a little taken aback by Ajit’s curt response. Even though it was rude, he wonder what it was about talking about Cheezas that had so offended Ajit. He wanted to apologize, but, Ajit wouldn’t listen to him.
With no one else to turn to, he decided to head to the sleeping room. The Auburn was there, tending to some of the foals who were sleeping at that time. A sshe was watching over the foals, she could feel a fluffy’s hoof tapping on her leg.
“Why Avo, whats the matter?”
Avo tthen told the Auburn about the incident that happened that day.
“There, there little Avocado. Not everybody has the same religion as you do.”
“W-w-we-we-shion?”
It was a big word.
“Well Avo, a lot of hummehs and fluffies would believe in one type of Sky Daddy. That’s a religion. Ajit over there belongs to a different type of herd. And his owner belongs to another type of herd. And they believe in their own thoughts about Sky Daddy.”
“Ooooh, so wike, they go to a diffewen pwayie pwace?”
Avo was surprised to hear the word “pwayie pwace”. But she had a rough idea of what Avo meant.
“Exactly! And there is a lot of religions, Avo. Not everyone has the same religion. It’s like how Buttercup prefers sports while you prefer reading.”
The Auburn felt she was grossly simplifying the vast differences of religions and followings in the world. She was not sure if Avo would understand what she was saying.
“Abo undahstan…. Abo thinks.”
The Auburn could only smile as she heard that.
Just then, Avo asked a rather expected question to her.
“Do 'ou bewieb in sky daddeh, mummah Amba?”
“Not really, Avo,” the Auburn said, shaking her head. “I don’t go to church.”
“Wai?”
“Well, I wasn’t brought up in it. As a little baby, my mommy and daddy never took me to church.”
Avo was surprised as to hear that. He thought that most humans would go to this special school, this special “prayer place”, even though different herds had different prayer places. But Amber was telling her that she didn’t.
“But see, I’m rather happy. Not everybody needs a to believe in sky daddeh to be happy. And If believing in sky daddeh makes you happy, that’s a good thing.”
Feeling like he understood the situation a bit better, Avo could only smile cryptically. He then stated, “Fwuffy undahstahn.”
~
Soon it was Holy Week. For Avocado, it was like any other ordinary week. He went to the daycare, followed the lessons he was taught, came home, had his dinner, and slept. The exam that was to grade was about a month away, but, other then that, there was nothing special.
But for Melissa and Harold, it was a different story. And Harold was adamant on a stance.
“The book didn’t mention anything about Jesus dying.”
“But how can Avo learn about Jesus if he doesn’t know about the Crucifixion and Resurrection?”
That question left Harold a little cold. He knew where his wife was coming from.
“Does he need to know? If Mark doesn’t take him to church, then there is no need for him to know more about the religion.”
“But what if he asks?”
“Well, that is IF he asks. If you take him on Good Friday, he’s just going to ask more questions.”
Melissa was feeling dejected. Harold came up to her, and place his hands on her shoulders.
“Look. I know it was difficult for both of us when Mark stopped going to church. But even though Avo is special to us, ultimately he is Mark’s pet, not ours.”
Harold could feel a lump in his throat as he said that. In the months of the close bond that he developed with Avo, the fluffy definitely felt more than just a pet.
Melissa sighed. She knew her husband had a point. And she also knew that she was initially hesitant to have Avo follow them to church all those months ago at Christmas. And yet, there was one thing she did want to ask.
“Can we still take him on Easter Sunday?”
Harold thought for a moment.
“Sure.”
~
Good Friday came and went. As Avo was at the daycare for most of the day, he would have been unaware of the church service that his grandmother attended on that day. Nor would he have known about the significance of this one day in the Christian calendar. But to Avo, it was just yet another day.
~
And then, it was Easter Sunday.
Avocado was dressed with a neat little green ribbon around his body, complete with a cute little bow. According to gwamma, the other fluffies that were going to the Church today were also going to wear a similar bow. And Avo was feeling a little excited – he heard there was going to be a little party at the Church. Avo wondered if it was going to be anything like the one he experienced at Christmas.
It was the second time that Avocado was at the place that his grandparents called church. It was the same as he had remembered it at Christmas – a building where a lot of people gathered, and windows with a coloured glass showing a bearded man doing miracles and other things. Avo now understood that this man was Cheesas, and that the Church was what his grandmother and Melissa described as being a “pwayie pwace”, or “prayer place.”
Though the one thing that Avo was not prepared for was the long talk by the silly human in silly white clothes. The speech went for so long, and used big words that it nearly made Avo fall asleep. He tried his best to understand it, and he could understand the priest was talking about “a new life” and “new beginnings”. But that was about the half of it, and the poor quality of the microphone meant that Avo could not really understand what the man was saying. Feeling a little distracted, Avo decided to look around, and see more of the statues near him.
And as he looked, he saw the statue of Cheesas, on a large plan of wood, his arms outstretched, with prickly things on his head, and boo-boo juice streaming from down his face. A look of intense sadness and agony was on Cheesas’s face.
It was like nothing Avo had seen before. He wondered why he had not seen this statue before. He wondered why the book that his grandma had given him had not shown this statue. It made him want to ask questions. But he was also a little terrified by the vision of it. Looking away, he then started to snuggle up to his grandmotter, Melissa.
Melissa was a bit surprised by Avo laying his head on her side. However, and understanding that the church service would be rather boring to both children and fluffies, she gently patted him, and allowed the adolescent foal to rest by her side.
~
Just outside the prayer place, a number of stalls had already been erected, and people were already playing games. The Easter celebrations were here, though Avocado noted that they were rather muted. It didn’t seem to be as exciting as the celebrations for Christmas. Or for Halloween.
As he was walking by his grandparents side, Avo felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around, and was met with a surprise.
“Mawigowd!”
Marigold was wearing a silver-coloured ribbon. She was standing next to her owners, as well as a bigger fluffy, who resembled a little, but with a reddish mane.
“Fwuffy ne’er thot dat Abo gu to chuwch!”
“This am secondies tiem, fwen.”
“Weww, Mawi go to Chuwch with fwuffy mummam and hummeh mummah ewewy Sundae!” As she said this, she introduced her fluffy mother to Avo. “Dis am fwuffy mummah, Coppah.”
“Nice to meet ‘ou, mummah Coppah,” Avo said bowing his head.
“Mawigowd hab big tawkies about ‘ou. Sez ‘ou am a smawt boi!”
Avo looked at the bigger fluffy sheepishly. Feeling a shy, he merely said, “Abo onwy twy am bestest.”
There were not that many notable games or activities at the Easter celebration, and Avocado felt it was overall, rather boring. Not to mention that it was rather hot as it was mostly outdoors, and Avo found himself sweating after a bit. But there was one game that Avo did enjoy, which he played with the other kids and fluffies.
There was an egg hunting game. The game required a group of fluffies and children to work together. They were attached to at least one adult, and they had to work together to find the eggs within a specified area of the church. Avo was in a group with Marigold and Copper, and they were attached to Melissa, who agreed to watch over the group as they combed the area.
Most of the fluffies had found the missing coloured eggs, but there was one egg that was still missing. All the fluffies had been wondering where this one egg had been hidden – it had been painted green, with red spots. The picture of the egg reminded Avo of the nearby bush with the red flowers. Feeling a little intuitive, Avo went to bush, going inside it. It was an area most of the fluffies preferred not to go into, as they had not been told to be careful of entering random dark places.
But luckily enough, the missing egg was there!
“Atta boy, Avo!” Harold said, as he saw the little green foal return with the missing egg.

Happy Easter (Artist: PeppermintParchment)
After the games, the foals and fluffies were given a treat of various foods. There was a bunny-shaped chocolate that they all shared, along with various jellybeans. It was a somewhat fun experience but, perhaps not as fun as Christmas. (Or Halloween)
~
Avocado never asked again about going to Church, or Cheesas. It came as a bit of a surprise to Melissa, as she had remembered the interest he had expressed to her. However, and remembering the life choices that her own son made, she had come to accept that, as a fluffy, perhaps Avocado would not be interested in knowing more about the religion.
As for Avo, he tried to forget the statue of Cheesas that he saw. It was rather disturbing, and did not seem to make sense with everything else that he had seen at the Church. But Avo had also understood from the Auburn that there were other prayer places, other herds that existed in the world. He wonder what the prayer place of Ajit’s would look like. He wondered what other kinds of Sky-daddehs there were. The world was a mysterious place, and he was hoping to learn more about it as he got older.

2023.05.28 19:22 IrinaSophia Sunday Of The Fathers Of The First Ecumenical Council

On the seventh Sunday of Pascha, we commemorate the holy God-bearing Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council.
The Commemoration of the First Ecumenical Council has been celebrated by the Church of Christ from ancient times. The Lord Jesus Christ left the Church a great promise, “I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Mt. 16:18). Although the Church of Christ on earth will pass through difficult struggles with the Enemy of salvation, it will emerge victorious. The holy martyrs bore witness to the truth of the Savior’s words, enduring suffering and death for confessing Christ, but the persecutor’s sword is shattered by the Cross of Christ.
Persecution of Christians ceased during the fourth century, but heresies arose within the Church itself. One of the most pernicious of these heresies was Arianism. Arius, a priest of Alexandria, was a man of immense pride and ambition. In denying the divine nature of Jesus Christ and His equality with God the Father, Arius falsely taught that the Savior is not consubstantial with the Father, but is only a created being.
A local Council, convened with Patriarch Alexander of Alexandria presiding, condemned the false teachings of Arius. However, Arius would not submit to the authority of the Church. He wrote to many bishops, denouncing the decrees of the local Council. He spread his false teaching throughout the East, receiving support from certain Eastern bishops.
Investigating these dissentions, the holy emperor Constantine (May 21) consulted Bishop Hosius of Cordova (Aug. 27), who assured him that the heresy of Arius was directed against the most fundamental dogma of Christ’s Church, and so he decided to convene an Ecumenical Council. In the year 325, 318 bishops representing Christian Churches from various lands gathered together at Nicea.
Among the assembled bishops were many confessors who had suffered during the persecutions, and who bore the marks of torture upon their bodies. Also participating in the Council were several great luminaries of the Church: Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia (December 6 and May 9), Saint Spyridon, Bishop of Tremithos (December 12), and others venerated by the Church as holy Fathers.
With Patriarch Alexander of Alexandria came his deacon, Athanasius [who later became Patriarch of Alexandria (May 2 and January 18)]. He is called “the Great,” for he was a zealous champion for the purity of Orthodoxy. In the Sixth Ode of the Canon for today’s Feast, he is referred to as “the thirteenth Apostle.”
The emperor Constantine presided over the sessions of the Council. In his speech, responding to the welcome by Bishop Eusebius of Caesarea, he said, “God has helped me cast down the impious might of the persecutors, but more distressful for me than any blood spilled in battle is for a soldier, is the internal strife in the Church of God, for it is more ruinous.”
Arius, with seventeen bishops among his supporters, remained arrogant, but his teaching was repudiated and he was excommunicated from the Church. In his speech, the holy deacon Athanasius conclusively refuted the blasphemous opinions of Arius. The heresiarch Arius is depicted in iconography sitting on Satan’s knees, or in the mouth of the Beast of the Deep (Rev. 13).
The Fathers of the Council declined to accept a Symbol of Faith (Creed) proposed by the Arians. Instead, they affirmed the Orthodox Symbol of Faith. Saint Constantine asked the Council to insert into the text of the Symbol of Faith the word “consubstantial,” which he had heard in the speeches of the bishops. The Fathers of the Council unanimously accepted this suggestion.
In the Nicean Creed, the holy Fathers set forth and confirmed the Apostolic teachings about Christ’s divine nature. The heresy of Arius was exposed and repudiated as an error of haughty reason. After resolving this chief dogmatic question, the Council also issued Twelve Canons on questions of churchly administration and discipline. Also decided was the date for the celebration of Holy Pascha. By decision of the Council, Holy Pascha should not be celebrated by Christians on the same day with the Jewish Passover, but on the first Sunday after the first full moon of the vernal equinox (which occured on March 22 in 325).
The First Ecumenical Council is also commemorated on May 29.

FAQ

I live in Belize/Canada/Nicaragua/USA, why are you posting on a Saturday?!
Because I'm writing this from Europe in the future where it's already Sunday. Timezones be crazy.
Why are there a bunch of non-board games in the board game list?
Because the Tabletop games category on Kickstarter includes anything remotely related to board games and sometimes things slip through my filters.
Why is this future award winning board game and literal saviour of humanity missing from your list?
Sometimes my filters get a bit overzealous and discard actually valid projects. If you feel something is missing for this reason, leave a comment and I'll add it (maybe).
Can I donate all my money to you?
No
Can you help me promote my game?
Please no. I make lists. Nothing more.
Your list is full of errors and now my vacuum cleaner sucks!
Indeed, this fine piece of code runs purely on meatballs and schnapps, so anything can happen. Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.

2023.05.28 12:31 DPGamez123 My Wednesday S2E1- Woecome Back to Nevermore (fanfiction)

Episode 1- Woecome back to Nevermore.
We slowly zoom in on the Addams Family House. Gloomy and as spooky as ever. As the camera zooms in, we go through a window and see Thing, the disembodied and sentient hand. He's just chased a big spider away. Suddenly the voice of Mortica Addams was heard
"Dinner is ready, my dark angel"
Wednesday Stands up from her typewriter desk and walks out of her room. She begins her inner Monolog as she walks to the dining room and sits down while her food is being brought up
"The last few months away from Nevermore have been as I suspected. Pure torture. That be it from Mother and Father's continuous hideous display of affection, to Pugsley being as pathetic as ever. Never would I have thought I'd miss being away from here"
Wednesday finally gets her food as Morticia begins to speak
"So, are you ready to return to Nevermore again dear?"
Wednesday looks into the void
"You mean where I almost died and successfully solved a serial killer case? I would say my return would be more than adequate for my sanity"
Gomez and Morticia share a proud look as Gomez looks at Wednesday
"Oh, we just knew you'd love it there. We're so happy that you made some friends."
Wednesday looks offended
"They are not my friends, they're merely the classmates I've become acquainted with."
Pugsley eats more as he looks at her
"Isn't that just another word for "friend"?"
Wednesday glares
"It is not…"
Wednesday finishes her dinner as she returns to her room and sits down at her chair. She moves her eyes so she can see behind to her left
"I know you're there, Thing…"
He scurries on her desk and taps away, talking to her
"I suppose you can come back with me this semester. That is… if you do my bidding yet again?"
Thing does a "Yes Sir" salute. He scurried over to Wednesday's purse and tapped on it
"What? I have already packed all I need."
Thing opens it, and out slides her Phone. The same phone Xavier gave to her all those months ago.
"I said I will NEVER be a slave to technology, Thing. Besides, that stalker still has my number."
Thing taps away again
"My "friends?" If they are so inclined to be that word, they will just have to wait until tomorrow."
Thing picks it up and slides it on her desk as he taps the screen. Wednesday has multiple next messages
"sighs Fine, I suppose I can take a quick gander."
She opens the notifications, from Xavier. The only named contact in her phone
Xavier-
63 Days Ago- Wednesday? I know you said you'd never call me, but I just want to know if you're doing alright?
50 Days Ago- Really? Still ignoring me? You always did enjoy the silent treatment.
31 Days Ago- Um… for real are you just gonna ignore me? I thought we ended on a better note last semester?
17 Days Ago- Ok then… I'm just gonna assume that I'm talking to a dead phone. That thing cost a fortune by the way, you're welcome… just… I guess I'll see you around?
Yesterday- Well if you ever see this… just know I will be attending a new school this year…
Wednesday looks strangely alarmed at the last message
"New school? I guess it won't hurt to check in on him?"
Thing taps, saying to go for it
Wednesday-
Leaving Nevermore I hear? I suppose it's for the best.
Almost instantly… she gets a response
Xavier-
Ha! You fell for the bait! I knew you had some kind of a heart.
Wednesday could just feel the rage in her swell as she realized she was tricked
Wednesday-
You know I could always delete your contact?
Xavier-
Wait! I'm sorry, Okay? I just wanted to try one last thing. Just tell me, are you coming back this semester?
Wednesday thinks… should he tell him? Or just wait for the next day? She decides to be nice for today
Wednesday-
Indeed
Xavier-
That's good. Can't wait to see you again. Thing coming along too?
Thing reads it and signs something
Wednesday-
He said to not make him put you back in that squad car.
Xavier-
Ha ha. By the way… Did you ever try to contact Enid? You know how much you mean to her? Ajax says she's been kinda down lately.
Wednesday-
I do not have a way of getting her number. Nor do I want her flooding my phone with those insipid little pictures.
Xavier-
I get that. 😉 And don't worry, I haven't told anyone about you getting that phone.
Wednesday-
Apparently someone does…
Xavier-
Obviously I know about it Wednesday.
Wednesday-
I did not mean you…
Xavier-
Wait… what? Everything OK?
Wednesday-
I have to go. I will explain more tomorrow.
Xavier-
Wait! Ugh… fine…
And with that, Wednesday put her phone back in her bag. Thing taps again
"No, that did not change anything. I still loathe modern technology. And do not spy on my stuff again…"
He bows in apologies
"Now, return to Mother and Father please. I require my space"
Wednesday does some more writing. She's already working on drafts for "Viper De La Muerta: Más Venenosa" The sequel to her book. A few hours go by, and she checks the clock. It says 11:54 P.M. She needs to get some sleep. So she ends her paragraph, wishing a good night to her parents. Her bed is a full queen sized bed, all to herself. It's all black and she has a gray-black blanket. She eventually falls asleep. Suddenly she's somewhere she doesn't understand
Enid is on the ground writhing in pain
"Ahhh! Heeelp!"
"Enid!?"
Wednesday goes to her, surprised. She then sees Xavier getting beat up by strangers
"Ah! Oh! Get the hell back!"
"Xavier!?"
He's punched to the floor as Wednesday tries to help, and now sees Eugene knocked out in the corner and a seemingly lifeless Sheriff Galpin. She then hears a voice
"I'm still out there Wednesday!!!"
Wednesday wakes up and is in a panic, sweating
"Xavier? Enid!? Eueg…
she looks around… a nightmare? She rubs her head and takes a sip of Water from her bottle. She checks her alarm clock
"4:45? Still a few more hours."
She lays back down and wakes up at 7:30. No more nightmares for the rest of the morning
"Good morning Pugsley…"
Pugsley takes a bite of his cereal
"Hey sis… you know I'm…
"Going to miss me?"
She finishes the sentence
"I know, I will miss the way you scream from your hair pulling too."
Morticia enters the room
"Alright darling, Lurch is waiting."
"Okay Mother. I am ready"
Wednesday and Pugsley share a hug, Wednesday not completely enjoying it. She says her goodbyes to her Parents too. Wednesday gets in the car as Lurch drives off. They eventually get to Jericho County. She looks at some of the buildings she remembers from last semester. The hearse rolls up to the Nevermore gates and enters. Lurch opens the door and Wednesday steps out. She monologs again
"Nevermore seemed the same as ever. The same annoying people. The same clueless teachers. And just a little less serial killers. Maybe… that is"
"Lurch, you can go ahead and go. I'll handle the luggage from here."
Lurch nods and drives off. Wednesday puts her bag on her shoulders as she starts to pull her cello case
"That looks kinda heavy?"
Wednesday turns to look at the voice. Xavier. She rolls her eyes
"Need a hand?"
Wednesday sighs
"I suppose"
He grabs the cello and walks with her
"It's nice to see you again. Wish I could say you've gotten taller but…"
"Don't comment on my height."
"Just joking hehe."
Wednesday does not find it amusing
"I suppose the feeling of seeing you is mutual?"
She finds it hard to talk with him. She doesn't know why, but she feels the need to say something to him? Something from last year. She ignores it. They get up to Ophelia hall as they knock. A familiar girl with pink and blue hair answers
"OMG! I missed you so much!?!?"
Enid hugs her tightly, she gets pushed back
"Right… no hug unless it's a near death experience. Right! And Hi Xavier!"
She gives him a small hug too. She Whispers at him
"So… you two gonna hook up? Please tell me…"
Xavier looks terrified
"What!? No… no no no… of course not! We only texted a…. Enid's eyes grow shit…"
She glares at the two
"YOU have a f*cking Phone!? Just when were you gonna tell me!? We could've talked alllll break!? Give me your number now and I'll show you the ways of Facebook, and Insta, and Tiktok, and blogging and…"
"Enid!"
Wednesday interrupts
"Could you hold your thoughts for a second before I vomit!? You're giving me a headache and I've only seen you for 43 seconds."
Enid calms down
"Okay… you're right. I'm sorry. But hey, when were YOU gonna tell me Mr. Artsy Fartsy!?"
Xavier looks confused
"Me!? Would you want to break that kinda promise with her…?"
Enid looks at an already angered Wednesday
"I guess that's fair Xavier. So, I hear you and Ajax are now roomies?"
He nods
"Yep. The councilors said it should be fine."
Wednesday interjects
"I thought Gorgons could only be roommates with other Gorgons?"
Xavier clarifies
"As long as he wears his hat, and I don't walk in on him taking a shower… I'll be fine.*
Enid looks excited
"Speaking of Ajax… I'm gonna go see him! BRB!"
She walks out the door as Wednesday walks to her desk and places her Typewriter out of her bag and onto her desk
"Wow. Still using that old dinosaur huh?"
She looks offended
"Of course I am? It is the only true way of writing"
Xavier stands next to her
"What if you mistype a word? You just start over the whole page?"
Wednesday places her pages as she continues talking
"Only amateurs would make that kind of mistake in their work. Anyway, are you just going to annoy me or can I get some work done?"
Xavier looks annoyed
"Excuse me for trying to be nice? I thought you'd have a better understanding of friendship after last year?"
Wednesday gets up fast… but doesn't turn around, Xavier notices
"What? Did that break your thick layer of angst?"
Wednesday turns around. She somehow has a guilty look in her eyes despite being the same lifeless ones
"I… I… I apologize…"
Xavier looks less annoyed now
"It's fine… I know you don't fully get social interaction that well and…"
She interrupts
"No… not for that…"
"Huh?"
Xavier looks at her confused. Wednesday looks at him now
"I apologize for what happened last semester… for everything. Misjudging you, tricking you with the Rave'n, getting you arrested, and for ignoring your messages. Okay?. I should've listened to you more, not Tyler. I'm sorry…"
Wednesday sits down as that took everything out of her
"Wow, uh… that… thank you Wednesday. That means a lot from you."
Wednesday nods
"Consider us even?"
"Not yet…"
Wednesday looks confused
"Why?"
"I have some things to tell you. But first we need to get to that assembly. It starts in like 8 minutes. We get to meet the new principal"
Wednesday begrudgingly agrees and grabs her small bag. Thing jumps on her shoulder
"Hey Thing! How's it going buddy!?"
Thing makes a fist for a fist bump to where they collide. They make their way to the door and Xavier opens it. Only to find Enid who falls on the floor. Xavier looks confused
"Enid, what the hell are you doing? Wait… were you listening to us?"
Enid stands up and straightens her shirt
"Uh no…"
Xavier dusts some dirt off her shoulder
"Then what were you doing against the door?"
Enid panics
"Uh… I was scratching my head on the door. You know us werewolves. Always itchy! Hehe.
Wednesday gets mad
"Enid, there is nothing to spy on us for. Me and Xavier are just friends and that's it? Stop wishing a relationship into fruition."
Enid sulks
"Fine… I promise…"
She walks away. Wednesday looks at Xavier who kinda smirks
"What Xavier?"
He chuckles
"Nothing. Just didn't think I'd hear you call me, or anyone a friend"
"Would you prefer us not to be?"
She said sternly
"It's a joke, calm yourself. Let's get going to that assembly"
They walk out of the dorm and to the assembly area. Wednesday begins to think about Principal Weems. She starts her inner Monolog
"Principal Weems and I may have had our differences, but in the end she was not so bad. She did try and help me take down Laurel Gates. Unfortunately that is what resulted in her untimely demise. She deserved better."
She stands by the group of students as the new principal gets to the stand. He looks middle aged with mid length black hair. He has a five o'clock shadow and wears a black suit and pants. He begins his speech
"Hello everyone, my Nevermore students. It will be an honor to be the new principal at this fine and unique school. Now, I know most of you miss Larissa Weems dearly. But I assure you I will do everything in my part to fill that void"
A lot of the students look rather skeptical
"We hope you all enjoyed your forced vacation, and we welcome everyone back. And we hope you all healed well after last year's… unfortunate incident. But know this, we will take extra precautions with our students' safety. We would also like to give a special thanks to one of our students. Please, give a nice round of applause to our very own…. Wednesday Addams!"
He and the other students start clapping with praise. She looks around embarrassed and also sees Enid and Xavier happily joining in the applause
"We'd also like to thank some other students who helped on that dreadful night. Enid Sinclair, Xavier Thorpe, Bianca Barclay, Yoko Tanaka, Ajax Petropolus, Kent and Divina Waters, and Eugene Ottinger!"
Everyone cheers for the heroes of last semester
"We would also like to ask Ms. Addams some questions?"
Someone comes to her with a mic, Enid and Xavier step in front of her. Enid talks first
"Whoa, whoa! Wednesday does not like to talk in open crows…"
Xavier joins in too
"Yeah, yeah, she uh… gets nervous?"
The others agree. The Principal nods
"Okay, that's fair. We won't push anything on you kids. Oh I almost forgot, my name is Principal Kevin Fairbanks. Now, you may go on with your day. Classes start in 1 hour"
Everyone disperses. Wednesday grabs Enid's shoulder
"You didn't have to do that."
"It's okay, I know how my bestie is about crowds."
She smiles as she walks away. Wednesday walks into another direction. She ends up at the Bee Farm. She goes up to the little hut and knocks. A familiar voice is heard behind her
"Wednesday?"
Wednesday hears the voice and turns around
"Hello Eugene, How was…."
She turns around to talk, expecting him to be the same height. He's like a foot taller now she actually has to look up at him
"What happened to you?"
Eugene looks confused
"Guess I hit a growth spurt? Hehe"
Wednesday is now processing how he's so tall while she's still the same height
"Anyway, I see you have healed up nice?"
Eugene nods
"Yeah, everything's good. And I'm ready for a great bee year. Things are supposed to be going strong. Will you still join the Hummers again this year?"
Wednesday nods
"Possibly. Depends on what else is on my schedule. Well Eugene, I must be going. Goodbye"
"Later Wednesday!"
Wednesday leaves the Bee Farm aera. Eugene's sudden growth in height makes her more self conscious than she cares to admit. She walks through The Quad when a voice is heard behind her
"Hey Addams."
She turns around and sees Bianca Barclay at the fountain, also accompanied by her "side kicks" Kent and Divina
"Bianca. I see you still have your henchmen at your side?"
The twins toll their eyes as Kent speaks up
"We're more than just her "henchmen" Wednesday. We can do anything that she does."
Wednesday retort
"Except excelling at the Poe Cup. I look forward to a rematch in future team events…"
Divina steps forward
"That won't happen again. It was just a fluke, us underestimating you."
"Flukes are just excuses for things not going the way you intend."
Now Bianca stands up
"Alright, enough you guys. But I hope you sharpened up on your fencing. We WILL be taking the title this semester."
Wednesday doesn't even look threatened
"There is no need for practice, I have full faith in my swordsmanship."
"We'll see, Addams. Just you wait. Your ass will be handed to you yet again "
Wednesday looks bored
"My posterior isn't beaten easily… anyway I need to go. Herbology is starting soon."
Wednesday arrives at Herbology class. Being here again brings back some memories. Like getting smacked with a shovel. Weems' Death. And most importantly… Ms. Thornhill aka Laurel Gates. It's a good thing she's now rotting in prison. She takes a seat in the second row, as she feels someone else take another next to her. It's Xavier again
"We always seem to be desk mates, huh?"
Wednesday looks at her books
"It is not a coincidence when there are no assigned seats. You chose it"
Xavier rolls his eyes
"No shit… Anyway I've been meaning to ask something."
Wednesday looks up real quick
"Do not make things awkward, Xavier…"
He nods
"It's not my goal to do that. anyway, you mentioned that I wasn't the only one in your contacts, right?"
*It almost escaped her mind, she doesn't care to admit that either."
"Indeed."
She takes her phone out of her pocket and turns it on
"Can I see who it is?"
She hand sit to him
"I have been receiving stalker images. They involve me and you and me and… Tyler as well."
Xavier looks at them and nods, a bit worried
"I see… have you told anyone? This could be serious, you know?"
*Wednesday looks at him."
"Serious things intrigue me more."
just then Xavier sees something in the text feed.
"Whoa…"
*What? What is it?"
He points at the bottom of the screen.
"See those lines moving… that means someone is typing. Right now.*
The pictures that are sent are startling. One is of Xavier's dorm room. The other is Wednesday and Enid's room. And the last is of Xavier and Wednesday sitting at a desk in herbology class… where they are right now…
Stalker-
You don't just have to worry about yourself, Wednesday… your friends too…
"Holy shit… this is some creepy shit. "
"Don't worry. I will get to the bottom of this eventually…"
They meet the new teacher and finish class. Xavier asks her something before they go.
"Hey, there's been something I've wanted to tell you. Can you meet me at my Art Studio. Tonight? 9:00. It isn't anything weird, I promise."
Wednesday looks conflicted
"I will think about it. Do not tell Enid. She thinks there's something going… on… between us."
Xavier giggles
"She's a strange one, always following you like a wolf pup. Anyway, see you there maybe. Bye Wednesday."
The rest of the day goes smoothly for the most part as she heads back to the dorms. Wednesday goes back to Ophelia Hall and enters her and Enid's dorm. she Immediately holds a grossed out face
"Enid, what is that revolting stench burning my olfactory senses…?"
Enid perks up from her magazine
"What? Oh, you mean the sweet air freshener I just got? It's great. You don't agree?"
Wednesday looks nauseous
"It smells like a unicorn farted in here… super sweet and sugary… revolting."
Enid rolls her eyes
"I can't have anything that I like in here, can I? You get your clickety clackety typewriter, your giant ass Cello, your early morning meditation sessions, what do I get?"
Wednesday goes over to her bed and grabs a light jacket
"You get your phone? Your blinding nail polish and hair dye. Not to mention your obnoxious Korean musicals."
Enid breaths slowly, trying not to snap
"Do not… disrespect my K-Pop… Anyway where are you headed? It's like 8:30?"
Wednesday grabs her small bag
"I have an event to attend to. It's really nothing to blow a gasket over."
Enid squeals
"Is it… a date!?"
Wednesday nearly gags
"What? No? He just needs to talk?"
"So it is with Xavier… called it.."
Wednesday's not having it
"Enid, it is only a conversation. If there was something going on I would tell you. Now please… no more squealing… Thing, stay with Enid so she doesn't spy on me again"
Enid pouts
"Aw, no fair!?"
Wednesday journeys to Xavier's Art Studio. Arriving here fills her stomach with regret, for whatever reason she doesn't understand. She knocks on the wooden door. 15 seconds goes by, and no answer. Wednesday assumes that he isn't there and goes to leave when the door opens
"Wednesday. You made it. And you didn't break into my shed."
Wednesday turns around and walks in
"Don't expect that to be a regular occurrence. So, you said you wanted to speak with me?"
Xavier nods as he puts down his brush and turns off the radio
"Yes."
"Well, what is there you need to say to me?"
Xavier sits down on his stool to have a more eye to eye view of her
"Wednesday, I really appreciate you apologizing earlier. I know it sounds weird, but… I spent weeks wondering if you ever thought that. It's my turn to apologize now."
"You have nothing to apologize for"
He interjects
"Yes… I do. Obviously we both know we didn't exactly get along at some points, even though I wanted to."
She nods agreeingly
"That would be an understatement"
"I know… I know… I realize now, how much of a creep I looked. I didn't leave you alone when you asked. I shouldn't have told you who to and who not to hang out with. I was a total ass when you would tell me the other way. And then… when I said I should've let Rowan kill you. I… I didn't mean that. I was just angry and betrayed. You probably don't know this… but I even asked Bianca to erase you from my memory…"
Wednesday looks on, telling him to continue
"I'm so sorry. And after looking back, I don't know if I deserve to be your friend. So… if you don't want to be around me… I understand…"
Wednesday looks kinda overwhelmed by his venting. She honestly didn't realize how much he cares deep inside
"My conscience tells me that I should do what you've told me. To walk away"
She turns and looks at one of his paintings, a Raven
"But my conscience isn't always right."
Xavier's depressed face turns around into a hopeful one
"Wait… are you saying…"
Wednesday nods
"Yes. We can still be… Fff… frrr…. Friends…"
Xavier gets up to hug her but he stops himself. He's seen Enid denied hundreds of times so he brushes it off awkwardly
"I appreciate it. From here on out, I'll try to listen to you more."
"A small start would be to stop looking like a guilty psychotic serial killer all the time."
Xavier agrees with a nod
"Yeah… guess I did turn up at the worst times, eh?"
Wednesday looks at his painting more
"Indeed you did. Did you paint this recently?"
He walks up next to her
"Uh huh. I actually painted it last night at home. After you finally responded to me, I made that. Please… don't take it as I'm drooling over you or something?"
She nods no
"No. No, I get it. It's some good work. It's… amazing even. Oh, and if you tell anyone about this conversation I will shoot you with an arrow myself this time"
"Wouldn't want it any other way, Wednesday"
Wednesday walks away and gives a slight smirk as she turns to the exit
"I shall see you tomor…"
As she touches the door, her head jerks back and her eyes go wide as she falls back
Xavier: Wednesday!?!
He catches her as she falls. She sees a vision. She sees Xavier tied up against a wall as he's stabbed in the gut as he screams in agony. She then wakes up as Xavier is talking to her
"Hey? Hey!? You okay? You took a dive there. Was it… another vision?"
She stands up and brushes herself off
"Indeed…"
"What'd you see?"
She looks at him, actually kinda scared
"You… you were… stabbed…"

HOMILY: Pentecost Sunday
John 20:19-23

Pentecost: A Celebration of Life

Perhaps, many of us wonder, “If we all have been recreated by the Spirit of God, how come our world looks the same? Some will say that the world’s problems are getting worse and more evil is spreading. Why is there so little peace, comfort, or solace experienced by us in life?” Has the face of the earth really been renewed? The answer to this is a resounding “YES”! You and I are proof. Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ is proof that the work of renewal continues. There is hope! The Spirit of God continues to work in our lives, in our midst. The Spirit works wonders whenever human hearts are open to its promptings. Let us not be afraid! Instead, let us be hopeful. Let us be more trusting. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to direct our life and empower us to accomplish our mission for the Church and for Jesus. Again, Happy Birthday to us all!
