Whoooo boy. I'm in a pickle. My life is a pickle.
My boyfriend is verbally and emotionally abusive. He calls me names, mocks me, denigrates me, tells me my memories are false, gives me ultimatum, and in the past he has broken a bunch of my stuff. Hes thrown my car keys into the woods, he's broken 2 sets of them, he broke my key off my bike (inside the ignition), broke my tail light, sideview mirror, rear passenger window, drivers door handle, and the turn signal lever in my truck. He also punched the face of the radio in, and the clock no longer works. He broke the turn signals off my first bike and stabbed the seat with a knife. He held a knife up to my serpentine belt in my truck, and the front tire of my other bike. (Theres now a cut in it, but he denies having cut it...) He smashed my tail light with a hammer, breaking it, and my gas tank, putting a huge dent in it. For MONTHS I didn't have keys to where we live bc he threw them in the woods. He threatens to smash and cut up my shit, or to put it out on the side of the road or in the parking lot. He "kicks me out" and then takes it back and then continues to scream and yell and my head just fucking spinnnnnnns. He'll destroy things. and then say "sre what you made me do" like a spoiled child. Sometimes literally those words, sometimes not exactly.
I have no friends and no resources here, where I moved to be with him, and I'm now settled with lots of belongings and projects and I can't afford to get a place to live and/or keep it all separate from him. Aside from that, and this fucking BAFFLES me, I don't even want to leave all the time. I have like hot flashes when we get in a bad fight, or sometimes just when I think about things, but I can't bring myself to actually want to leave. It's twisted.
Aside from the turn signal lever in the truck, these things have not been recent, and whenever I say anything g alluding to it or mentioning how it had set a precedent and I'm nervous that he's gonna fuck my shit up, I'm tHrOwiNg ThE pAsT iN hIs FaCe and he AlReAdY aPoLoGiZeD.
I know if I saw this happening to a friend I would notttttt be ok with it. I know that when I lay out all the bad things in a big list like that. it seems AWFUL. There are good things, too. And RSD makes the bad things stand out and seem worse. But I just feel like a tennis ball getting hurled and bounced back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.
He hates my friends from back home because I've vented to them about him/our fights/our relationship/my loneliness etc. and they've said he sounds like an asshole. He gets mad that I only share "my side of the story" but i mean....a lot of it really is inexcusable despite the context. The first time he went through my phone he absolutely lost his mind because I vented to her about a nasty fight (when nasty fights were less of a regular occurance) and she said he sounded like an asshole. He said he hoped she died, that he would have no problem killing her, fuck her, she's a fat stupid c*nt etc. Really hateful vitriolic shit.
I should want to GTFO, but I can't for some reason. I need to find therapy and have no idea how to navigate it. I want to be better. I want to reel in my emotions. I want to.....realistically, get in a clear place to leave.

Tldr; he told me how bad he was when he was younger and it makes me feel sick that the father of my son is saying those things. How do I deal with/confront him?
To start off, he never cries and I was pestering him asking him why he doesn’t cry and telling him that it’s unhealthy. Then he said that he doesn’t know why he can’t cry, and explained how that he went to a funeral of a kid from his school. Then when I asked how he died I found out it was self inflicted as a result of bullying from my boyfriend.
I was and still am very upset by this. I was especially upset as he laughed when he talked about bullying him, made a joke and even talked about how he bullied other people. A lot of it was needless things too.
I never knew this, all I knew from his school days was that he was a party boy and was one of those type of boys which I didn’t mind because I went to a few parties myself but I was never mean and was pretty much friends with everyone. I talked to the stereotyped “weird” kids and also went parties and all that with the “popular” kids. It was funny because half my friends thought me sensible because I studied and the other half thought I was off the rails because I smoked and drank. But I’m getting off track, I was friends with everyone but my boyfriend pretty much bullied people he classed as weird which is disgusting to me.
How could he laugh about that and what if he teaches our son to do the same. I’m now terrified our son will turn out to be a bully if my boyfriend is ok with that behaviour.
We’ve dated 23 months/2 years.

Just a general question. Riding Mower will not start, no click, no nothing when I turn the key. Mower ran fine yesterday, did half my yard, and then got some water. When I tried starting it again I hear a pop and then nothing.
Now I'm testing the battery and it's giving zero reading on the multimeter. How did it just fine? Can a battery "blow up" and then read zero a day later?

Sands was wrong…
‘Physical’ and ‘training’ are currently my third and second least favourite words in the English language!
My least favourite word is ‘endurance’!
The fact that I’m faring so much better than my fellow draftees is cold comfort when, every time she sees me doing a little too well for myself, she loops me to the back of the company and makes me run to the front again!
Forest was showing off, for the first 5km, or so but, being a half Neanderthal, his endurance is lower than most of the rest of us… even if hybrid vigour brings him closer to us than he is Cliff and Branch (the two full Neanderthals in the group).
As I lap him for the hundredth time I wonder if he’ll remember how sweaty and exhausted he is and pace himself next time.
I doubt it.
“You at the back! Don’t fall behind! I’d prefer not to have to explain you were picked off by a pack of cave lions when I get back to base!” shouts Sands, not a drop of sweat visible on her.
I know better than to look at who she’s admonishing. I’d be next if I did.
As I pass Reid, the skinny, pale Scot with her hair like fire and eyes an emerald sheen, she glares up at me.
She’s not alone in making known her resentment of how much better suited to this I seem than most… but she is alone in the intensity of her displeasure!
Even Forest doesn’t have the energy to spare on shooting me deathglares anymore but, it doesn’t seem to matter how tired she looks, she always seems to have just enough to spare me a scowl.
Did I do something to offend her? I can’t think what… but that seems like the only explanation!
I pretend not to notice the glare as I overtake her.
---Tuesday, 21st of November, 2682 Terran Calendar---
“And who can tell me what this species is called?” says the Lecturer, bringing up a holograph of a 3m tall xeno that looks like the head, forelimbs and torso of a shaved lesser anteater, on top of twelve long, rigid tentacles.
Mine is the only hand that goes up.
“Pvt Taylor, please…”
“They’re called the Thlinac, Sir.”
“Very good… and are the Thlinac generally considered a threat to Humans on the battlefield?”
“Not generally, Sir, no… However, they do have a venomous barb on the backs of two of their tentacles. Being stung is usually no more than an annoyance but can induce anaphylaxis in those who have an allergy to shellfish, Sir.”
“Top marks, Taylor!” beams the xenobiology lecturer.
The praise earns me another scowl from Reid.
“Yes, as Taylor says, the Thlinac can induce anaphylactic shock in Humans with seafood allergies but, other than that, are considered to be no great threat to us in terms of their bodily capabilities. So far there are only a handful of species known to pose any credible threat to Terrans without relying on technology to do so. Can anyone name any such species?”
My hand is, again, the only one in the air.
---Friday, 24th of November, 2682 Terran Calendar---
“Pvt Taylor, report!” shouts Sands.
I run to where she stands, next to Reid and a very poorly taken apart rifle.
“Reporting as ordered, Ma’am.” I say, looking straight ahead and pretending I don’t see Reid sneering up at me.
“Reid seems to be having a little trouble stripping her gun… show her how it’s done.” orders Sands, already walking away.
“Yes, Ma’am.” I say, turning to sit with the girl who hates my guts for some reason.
“Err… so… this part shouldn’t be like that… you need to unscrew this part first…” I explain, acting like I think she’s listening to me at all and that I haven’t even noticed her glower.
I’m tempted to take one of my leave days, just to get away from this girl’s hateful glaring for a bit!
---Sunday, 26th of November, 2682 Terran Calendar---
A shovelfull of dirt hits me in the chest.
I look up to see Reid standing with her back to me, in the direction it came from.
I stare at her for a few seconds to see if she’ll acknowledge it… I could have believed it was an accident except for a) who it is and b) the way she’s now scrupulously ignoring me.
I sigh and resume digging the obstacle ditch.
It could easily be done by machine, of course, but building it ourselves is also part of the training… I can’t look like I’m slacking off.
Not thirty seconds pass before I’m showered with another shovelfull of frozen muck.
Angry now, I shout “Would you please watch where you’re throwing that dirt!”
The only answer I get is more dirt thrown at me.
“Hey!”
More dirt.
“HEY!!!”
I begin walking towards her but…
“What’s goin’ on here?!” comes Sands’ voice as she appears to my right.
“Pvt Reid seems to have some sort of grievance with me, Ma’am.” I say, gesturing to my dirtied fatigues, stonily.
She looks at me and then to Reid who still has her back turned “Pvt Reid! You got a problem with Pvt Taylor here?”
Reid turns around, clearly working hard to contain her mirth as she says “A problem? No, Ma’am! I was just so enthusiastic about the work that I got in the zone and it looks like Taylor caught some strays… I won’t let it happen again, Ma’am.”
Sands looks as unconvinced as I feel, turning to me and asks “Who is your current trainin’ partner, Private?”
“Private Locke, Ma’am.” I answer, not liking where this is going.
“And where are you and Locke slated to go for your first survival excursion, Private?”
“Interior Sahul, Ma’am…”
She turns to Reid “Who is your current trainin’ partner and where are you scheduled to go with them, Private?”
“Private Everard, Ma’am. The Amazon basin.” answers the redhead.
“Pvt Locke, Pvt Everard, report!” shouts the mauve eyed woman.
My partner, James Locke, and a curly haired blonde with brown eyes that I guess to be Pvt Everard appear.
“Effective immediately, you four are switchin’ partners… Pvts Locke and Everard together, Pvts Taylor and Reid together…”
“But Ma’am…!” objects Reid as my stomach sinks.
“Yes Private?… Got somethin’ to say?” growls Sands in a way that makes quite clear how likely she is to reverse herself.
“…N…nothing… Ma’am…”
“Good!… Startin’ now, you and your new partners are gonna do everythin’ together except sleep… You will train together, take watches together and I expect to see you sat together at meals… you are gonna be around eachother from dawn to dusk until you’ve gotten over this petty rivalry, Privates! Am I clear!?”
“Yes, Ma’am.” respond Reid and I in unison.
“Pvt Locke, you’ll be goin’ to the Amazon with Pvt Everard… Pvts Taylor and Reid, you’ll be goin’ to Australia…”
---Esme’s perspective---
“Well… that was some display you put on earlier, Esme!” says Saba, stripping off her headscarf as the five of us cross back into room 1512.
“Yeah, what were you playing at, girl?!” giggles Charlotte, sitting down on Kimberley’s bottom bunk bed, facing her own, below mine.
“Like I said, Taylor just caught a few strays… Seems he’s not the perfect soldier he acts like if he took it so personal!”
“You’re fooling no one!” chuckles Kimberley, sitting down next to Charlotte “I saw you throw the dirt at him, that was not an accident!”
“I think Esme might have a little cruuush…(!)” teases Saba as she sits down beside me on Charlotte’s bunk.
Christina (the groups resident kuudere) sits down on her other side, the only one not grinning.
“I do NOT have a crush on that twat!” I say, disgusted.
“Really?” smirks Kimberley “You told us you liked muscly guys… Taylor certainly fits the bill!”
“I told you that as the first part of a sentence explaining that personality is also a key component in my attraction to a guy!” I say exasperatedly “A solid gold 10 like Forest can rocket himself back down to an untouchable 0 with a vile personality!”
“You think Taylor has a vile personality?” asks Saba, sceptically “He doesn’t really seem to have any personality at all to me!… I think today was the first time I’ve seen him express an emotion or say anything that wasn’t a simple statement of fact!”
“Oh… just the swatty little, holier than thou act! Gets under my skin!… Shows up here before he’s even been conscripted, gets a room to himself, tallest and second muscliest in the regiment, does everything perfectly, first try, all while maintaining this social distance between himself and everyone else like he thinks he’s too good for us!” I say, leaving out the offputtingness of his prim and proper speech given that I’m the only one in the room who doesn’t speak the same way!
“Oh you definitely have a crush, girl!” smirks Charlotte.
“I. do. not!” I insist, truthfully.
Play acting as me and doing a not bad Scottish accent (though definitely Edinburger and not Galloway) she affects a starry eyed demeanour to say “Och… he’s just sooo handsome and perrfect, that mysterious Doggerrlanderr! I need to hate him or I’ll fall heed over heels ferr him!”
I role my eyes.
“If you do hate him, Esme… antagonising him to the point where he blew up at you is about the worst thing you could have done…” observes Kimberley “…Now, you’re going to be stuck with him 24/7!”
I gesture around to the Taylorless room “12/7, thank you very much! He’s not allowed in here, is he!”
“Still, if you had just ignored him you would have been far less exposed to him than you are going to be now…” says Christina, her tone flatter than a pancake.
“Yeah… you’re right… never good at thinking things through.”
“You’re going to be stuck out in the arid part of Australia with him for 5 days over new year!” smirks Charlotte “Just you and him… alone… Anything could happen!”
“He tries shit and I’ll press the emergency recall beacon so fast it’ll make his head spin!” I assert.
“He really doesn’t seem the type to ‘try shit’… I think he might be ace.” muses Saba.
“Oh he just would be, wouldn’t he!” I sneer before doing a deep, robotic voice “Sex is a mere distraction from my true goal of serving my planet and becoming the perfect soldier. Titties are ephemeral, the Glory of Terra lives eternal.”
This elicits giggles from the other four followed by a short lull in the conversation.
“I think I might try and work my wiles on Locke, when we’re in the Amazon together… He’s just my type… as far as boys go at least… cute face… good manners… slim but not too slim…” muses Charlotte.
Kimberley, on the bed next to her, looks wounded.
Her crush on the girl she’s sat next to is obvious to everyone except, seemingly, Charlotte herself!
Charlotte looks around, confused, and says “Why’s it gone so quiet? Have I said something wrong? I was just…”
“It’s gone quiet because Kimberley likes you, Charlotte. You’re upsetting her by talking about being attracted to Locke…” states Christina, her tone blunt and factual.
Me and Saba silently look at the skinny gothgirl sitting to our right, our mouths agape.
Kimberly blushes so hard that it clearly shows even through the dark skin of her chubby cheeks and begins a flustered stammer as Charlotte looks at her disbelievingly.
“Is that true, Kim?!” asks the blonde, incredulously.
“I… err… it’s… uhm…” stammers Kimberley.
“Wait!” interrupts Saba before looking to me and Christina, picking her scarf up and wrapping it back around her head “…we should go back down to the Mess… I hear they’re playing Inglorious Basterds tonight! It should be fun!”
“Yeah, sounds good.” I lie.
We bundle Christina along with us as we leave the room to give them some privacy.
The moment we are in the hall, I give her a smack to the back of her head.
“Ow.” she says, emotionlessly.
“The hell were you thinking!?” I demand.
“I was thinking that Kimberley either needed to either act or give up on Charlotte.” she answers, like a semitrue AI attempting to comprehend Human emotions “She wasn’t acting… so I precipitated things.”
“You don’t just air out people’s dirty laundry like that! What if Charlotte doesn’t reciprocate?! Things’ll get real fucking awkward, won’t they!?”
“OK, OK… It’s out of our hands now… let’s just go and enjoy the movie, shall we?” mediates Saba.
Grumpily, I allow her to shepherd us down the corridor.

chapter 3 - “A Kevin conundrum”

Through the entire bottom half I could feel my nerves trying to claw their way out of my throat, I’m not even sure I even took a breath until I saw that ball rolled over towards Cavan and tossed into Vladdy’s glove. No matter how long you play baseball I don’t think you ever get over those moments, no matter what level of play, no matter how young or old you are, those damned nerves never really go away. The moment the game is on the line, the moment that everyone in the stadium is standing and cheering, whether it be for you to hit the game winning hit, or to strike out it doesn't matter. But the feeling after you secure the win, the moment you're able to breathe again, to smile about all the misplays and mistakes. That moment will stay with you forever, it will keep you coming back over and over again like a drug you can never get enough of it.
But we won, we escaped LA with a win. Maybe it wasn’t the prettiest, maybe it wasn’t the easiest we did it and at the end of the day they don’t ask how, just how many. I remember crashing into Daulton first, he had this great big smile plastered across his face. He wrapped his arms around me and we just started jumping like kids. Daulton’s hugs really were the best. I remember sprinting into the dugout, the music was already blaring, I imagine Vladdy had already started things. There was a cacophony of men in different states of undress. Looking around the room, the smiles on everyone's face, I wanted to do something to join them, to show them how much I cared for them and how much this group of guys meant to me. Without hesitation I quickly jumped up onto the table quickly drawing the eyes of those around me.
“I know just 6 months ago the idea of me standing here, talking to you all and celebrating with you was something hard to imagine. I still have moments of doubt even today. But from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you guys, every last one of you. I have never felt more welcomed, more cared for, and more loved by a group of 25 guys like I do right now…
“Yeah, check it out, here we go, listen up! I'm 'bout to drop some rhymes 'bout the team that's tough From the Northside, where the Blue Jays reside I’m talkin bout’ Toronto, where we reppin’ with pride!

As I finished my final verse the entire clubhouse erupted with enthusiasm. Was it my best rap? No, probably not, I mean I did just try and rhyme “dinger” and “stinger” in the same verse, but I got Belt to crack a smile so you know it couldn’t have been that bad.
We headed straight for the airport after that, the team was all excited. We were all about to get our first real look at the new improvements made to the Dome, and I was beyond ready to get a chance to play in front of that home crowd. Getting onto the plane I found myself a nice secluded corner towards the back of the plane. Ahead of me I could hear Springer trying to explain something to Vladdy. I couldn’t really make out exactly what the discussion was about, but I swear I heard the words “Peanut Butter, and Jelly” at least 3 times. As much as I wanted to join in on the conversation I knew I had other other things to deal with, much more serious things.
After quickly glancing around again to make sure no one was within peeping distance, I pulled out my phone. Opening it up I was greeted with the email that I had received from Randal Grichuk a former Blue Jay, and part time member of the “Stupidly Good Looking AL East Club” before his trade last season. The email had followed a phone call I had with him during Spring Training. The call itself, if you can even call it that, was incredibly short. While me and Randal didn’t really have a history other than some passing conversations before our games I had always felt like there was a mutual respect between the two of us. But his call was not one that came across as friendly, rather more of a threat.
“Leave her alone.”
“Don’t message her, don’t talk to her, just leave her alone.”
That was it. That was the entire call. The email had been more of the same;
“I know what happened, I know you talked to her. I need you to stop, I need you to leave her alone. She’s important and I need you to stay away from her.”
Even without saying her name I knew who he was talking about, the women he so desperately wanted me to avoid. I closed my eyes and my mind took me back to that moment, I could feel the hairs on my arm stand as the cold November breeze danced across my skin. I heard the sounds of distant construction and streetcars passing, as my brain wandered further into the memory I swear could even smell the scent of hot dogs sizzling on the grill. That’s when I saw her. Standing in front of me like she had all those months prior. Our eyes locked I stared at her beauty as the wind played with her hair. Her smile was an infectious one as it spread across her face and eventually mine. I was once again speechless even in my own fantasy. Helplessly I watched as her figure began to turn and walk away again, I wanted to speak, I wanted to shout out to her. Yet just like before the words caught in my throat. “Your name, what's your name!” I cursed under my breath. But she was already gone. I was left to stand there in my mind, empty, and alone.
My eyes were jolted open by the feeling of a soft hand upon my shoulder. It was Romano, he had a sad look in his eyes, as he studied my obviously distraught face.
“I think I can help you”.

This is a post about how to generate high ticket appointments for ridiculously cheap costs on Facebook right now…
If you’re in the mood to read 3,300+ words go ahead. There’s no TL;DR. This post is only for serious business owners that want to learn how to run profitable Ads.
I’m currently managing between $500,000 - $550,000 per week in Facebook Ad spend across multiple businesses in over 3 dozen industries…
This works for ALL types of businesses that sell High-Ticket services and products.

But first…
I’ll start this off by pointing out to everybody having Ad account issues. Every single day I pop into this sub to see so many of you struggling with being banned from advertising on Facebook.
If your ad accounts are disabled, if your BMs are disabled - it’s sad.
It’s sad because I wrote a detailed post on EXACTLY how to setup your FB assets so that you NEVER have to encounter this issue - and you still haven’t read it.
I’m currently spending over $500k a week across multiple accounts, multiple clients, and nobody, NOBODY has their accounts banned…
Simply because we follow my asset management structure (laid out here).
First, do yourself a favor and get your accounts in order by reading that post… then come back here for the good stuff so you can actually make some money!
Now for those of you that have no account issues…
Here’s HOW to get High-Ticket Appointments for $25-$30 bucks a call… with prospects that pay $5,000+ in retainers, service fees, consulting - whatever you sell…
That clearly implies that I’m talking about HOW to target people with money…
Not just people with money, but people with a burning desire to buy your products & services…
No matter what type of product or service you’re selling, there are people on Facebook that are “in-the-market” for your help.
I’ve run Ads in almost every niche you can practically think of — from targeting accredited investors for investment funds, to luxury homes, to enterprise software, to high end home remodeling… all the way down to video & photography studios, web dev shops, production houses etc. etc. (just refer to that long list I published above…)
There’s a market for EVERYTHING. And your clients are on Facebook.
The problem is that there is too much garbage being touted by people that have no clue about how the platform works - that leaves you confused and paralyzed as to what to do…
So let me clarify, your clients ARE on Facebook, and you can connect with them for a lot less than you think…
You can generate high quality sales meetings for a lot less than you think…
In fact, you can do it with an extremely simple process that doesn’t require large budgets, doesn’t require highly produced VSLs, or anything time consuming…
And in this post I’m going to show you how. But first understand why most marketing fails.
​
WHY MOST MARKETING ON FB FAILS…
The biggest disconnect between them (your prospects) and you (your business) lies in not properly understanding 3 things:

1. Targeting
2. Assets
3. Setup

When these 3 things are out of sync, your ads don’t reach the right people, the people reading your ads don’t find them interesting…
And even if you have these two things in order… If your “setup” isn’t accurate you’ll end up seeing extremely high CPMs, very low CTRs and therefore, very expensive clicks…
So either you won’t get any leads signing up to book a call with you…Or you’ll get random junk leads filling up your lead forms.
Here’s what a commonly bad “Lead Gen” campaign looks like:—> Business owner is new to FB Ads—> He selects the Leads objective—> Sets up a Lead form ad—> Runs generic interests in his niche—> Maybe runs between $10-$100 a day in budget—> Gets LOW quality junk leads that don’t pick up—> Gets frustrated and pauses campaigns after a few hundred dollars spent—> Then browses all over Reddit and YouTube looking for answers
As I’ve said before, running Lead Form Ads will NOT get you the leads that will buy from you instantly…
The term “LEAD” means a lot of different things in different situations.
-When someone opts-in for a free lead magnet, that’s a lead-When someone fill out a form of any sort, that’s a lead-When someone goes to the end of a call booking funnel, that’s a lead-When someone watches a 30-min long webinar and fills out an application, that’s a lead…
So just aiming for “Leads” without paying attention to the “Setup” will get you nowhere. You will lose your hard-earned money and get nothing back.
Understand what happens when you select the “Leads Ad” objective using a lead form Ad FB shows it to the lowest rung of prospects that just like to get something for free!
That’s why when you run Lead Form Ads, most of your leads are junk. When you call them they either won’t answer or they’ll put it incorrect information.
The reason Facebook does this, is NOT to intentionally hurt you. But FB classifies this type of objective as extremely “TOF Leads” - Top Of Funnel Leads…
These leads opt-in for free information, or extremely low cost information, and have to be further nurtured using Email sequences to eventually get them on a call..
You’ll need thousands of these leads to start building any momentum… And therefore this setup is FLAWED if you want to get leads that will buy from you instantly.

SO HOW DO YOU GET LEADS THAT WANT TO BUY YOUR PRODUCTS & SERVICES NOW?
In a nutshell, you use the “Conversions” objective and you follow the exact formula that I’m going to teach you in this post.
If you follow everything I say, your results will look something like this:
Daily spend = $50-$100Leads = 6-8 per dayApplications = 5-7 per dayCalls Booked = 3-5 per dayShow ups = 2-3 per day (and even 95-100% show ups if you use my warm up protocol)
With numbers like these, off late I’ve been pulling down at minimum $5,000 for every $700-900 spent on Ads.
This will ONLY work IF you have a good offer. I previously written TONS of posts on how to create a high-converting, In-demand that people happily pay $5k+ for.
Again, if you want results like these, remember we need 3 things ON POINT:

1. Targeting
2. Assets
3. Setup

So let’s go over them in detail - here’s how it’s done:
First things first, let’s start with your assets, because that’s the primary driver of the entire campaign.
​
ASSETS
Your marketing assets include everything you use to run your campaign. Your funnel, your creative, your copy, your landing page, your landing page copy… ALL of these things are your assets.
How do you know what assets to make? Should you make a webinar? Should you make a lead magnet? Should you produce a VSL? What should your landing page consist of?
It’s ASTONISHING how few people think about the nature of their assets, and fewer actually ponder over WHY they are using the assets they’re using…
The nature and quality of your assets will play a crucial role in how your campaign will perform.
In another post I will dive into what assets work best for various offers and niches… but for the sake of this post, I’ll get straight to the point.
1. THE FUNNEL: Since we’re aiming for High-Ticket Sales right off the bat, the best Funnel asset I recommend is “The Sales Letter” or “The Offer Letter” (that’s what I call them these days)…
A “Offer Letter” is essentially a long-form sales letter (3000-4000 words) that does the job of taking the prospect from being in a “Top of funnel mindset” to “Bottom of funnel mindset”
That means - when the prospect first starts reading the letter, he’s only curious enough about your service…
But by time he’s down to the bottom of the page - his emotions are heightened, he’s very interested, and you potentially have a “hot lead"
At the bottom of the page he first fills up the “Initial opt-in form”… after that he’s taken to a calendar to pick a time & day to speak with you…
After choosing a day & time, he’s then sent to an “Application Form”. The application form is designed in a way to further qualify your prospect on whether he is the right fir for your business…
If he successfully fills out the application form, you now have a qualified appointment booked on your calendar.
The reason why he is qualified is because he first reads about 2000+ words of copy about your offer ONLY then can he even opt-in…
After opting in, he has to fill out an application form that is SPECIFICALLY designed to qualify his motivation level. We are only trying to pull down people with a HIGH motivation level to buy your products.

2. THE NURTURE SEQUENCES: Now just because he applied doesn’t mean that he’s going to remember the meeting. Most people suffer from ridiculously HIGH no-show rates because they don’t understand nurturing.
You HAVE to nurture your prospect.
I’ve seen the LAZIEST business owners run this funnel, and just sit back and expect the prospect to show up.
Why should the prospect show up? They don’t owe you anything. What are you ACTIVELY doing to excite them about the meeting? What are you doing to even remind them about the meeting?
People would come to me with high no-show rates, and when I look at their backend they have absolutely ZERO SMS reminders, ZERO email sequences, ZERO value..

Here’s how to nurture your prospects who applied to talk to you:
a) First understand, the minute the apply to talk to you, the pixel that captures that data also tells FB this person is “in-the-market” for such & such service..
SO what does FB do? FB immediately shows this person MORE ads from people that are advertising the exact same service as you - your competitors!
Your prospect is not only applying to talk to you, you’re not that exclusive! They’re also applying to other ads they see… so you HAVE to nurture them!
You HAVE to go above & beyond in giving them value EVEN after they’ve booked to talk to you..
This is easily accomplished via backend SMS systems and EMAIL systems with tight copywriting.

b) Secondly, your emails leading up to the call should provide more value. Links to case studies, reports, any free lead magnets… just give them value so they FEEL like showing up to the meeting.
- My show-up rates are at 95%- My clients show-up rates are at 95%- Anybody that’ve worked with has high show-up rates…
The only people that have HIGH no-show rates are those that don’t pay attention to backend nurturing.
3. THE WARM UP PROTOCOL: This is the secret sauce. I’ve been doing this since 2019 and literally is the number #1 reason why my cold prospects turn in to 5-figure/per month paid clients.
As soon as they’ve applied, a sales development representative from my team reaches out to them, and warms them up for the forthcoming appointment.
My SDRs give our prospects tremendous value on the phone. They ask them the right questions and they LISTEN to them. Then they give them free advice on the call… and they assure them that this is only the tip of the iceberg - there’s a LOT more to uncover in the forthcoming meetings with our closers…
Once prospects have heard a real human voice from our company, now they’re even more motivated to show up for the call.
Are you doing this? Are you nurturing your leads with value? Are you calling your leads and giving them value? - Ask yourself these questions before asking why they’re not showing up!

4. AD CREATIVES & COPY: This is a hard one to teach… I’m just a naturally good copywriter, I’ve formally studied direct response from the masters… Ive studied the greats from Eugene Schwartz and Roger Reeves, to Gary Halbert & Dan Kennedy, and John Carlton to the modern day masters, of whom several are my mentors…
Copywriting is a hard one to teach in a post that’s why I wrote an entire book on how to write copy to get clients…
But here’s a few tips.
Make your Ad Creative extremely compelling by using high-quality visual imagery, and create an Headline inside the creative that stands out using this font: Montserrat Extra Bold…
Your Headline should be based on a “Big Idea” that can tell an entire story of the benefits your product can deliver in 5-8 words. That’s for the Ad Creative.
Ad Copy: I used to previously write really long form ads… but I’ve seen that shorter form Ad copy does a lot better these days. You need to keep your Ad copy punchy and emotionally compelling. Your copy should target your prospects core desires.
Your copy needs to be exciting, Intriguing AND beneficial for your prospects.
When you’re first starting out, you should make 2 creatives, and you you need to have 1 primary text.
A good book to read to learn the fundamentals of this is: Micro-Script Rules by Bill Schley…
I think this is by far the best book I’ve read on how to write hard hitting copy in a condensed format. And it’s very applicable for writing Facebook Ads copy.

TARGETINGNow let’s talk about targeting. If you’ve got your funnel, creatives and full-copywriting fully built out, and you’re confident that you’re targeting your prospects core desires..
… now you need to make sure that your TARGET audience is actually seeing your ads.
Now, there’s a lot of debate in this industry about what works when it comes to targeting and what doesn’t.
Some people preach that interests are absolutely useless and you should go wide, some people say interests are still alive and gets them good results.
And if you ask this question anywhere - you’re told to just TEST everything!
So I’m going to do my best to explain to you how targeting works, what I do to target for me & my clients, and how you can effectively target your ideal customers.
1) Broad Vs Interests: It is true that interests are going away by the thousands every month… it is also true that broad works very well. Every media buyer has their own strategies and various budgets that they have to work with..
Everything I talk about is dedicated to a reader-base that has at least $50-$100/day to run ads. If you don’t even have $50 a day to spend on Ads NONE of my methods will work for you..
BUT interests do have their place. You see, broad is great for mass market consumer goods.
When you’re selling a Toothpaste, literally every single human being on the planet needs one. In this case why would you need to use interests?
When you’re selling mass market consumer goods, you should go broad.
BUT we’re NOT selling “mass market” remember? This post is about getting High-Ticket clients - by the virtue of that fact everything we do is niched down to our IDEAL customers core desires…
So if you’re selling specialized nano-technology, or luxury homes, or targeting accredited investors, or annuity insurance how could you possibly go broad?
In one example, I helped an enterprise software consultant target decision makers of mid-sized businesses, and I took his business from 0 to $200k/per month…
There’s NO WAY I could’ve done that by going broad…
So you need to understand the context within which you are advertising.
If you’re advertising a specialized service for a specific niche - you will need to use interests in the beginning.
BUT, you’ll need to insert specific keywords that your marketing responds to, in your Ad copy and creative…
The combination of KEYWORDS in your primary text, your Headline, in your description, in your ad copy AND your Interests - will result in targeting high quality people who need your service.
Here’s a fact: They’re removing interests BUT they’re also adding interests… there are a TON of hidden interests I’ve found that never did exist before, and they randomly popped up last month.
(I’ve been running FB Ads since 2010, so you best believe I’ve seen it all - I’ve been running FB ads even before there was this thing called the FB Pixel)
Having said that, I barely ever use interests anymore - and neither do I go broad. Instead I use a very specialized approach.
Here’s how I laser-target my prospects:You need a LOT of tech skill for this. And I'd written another post on this But here’s what I do in a nutshell. I custom build large lists from running very industry specific CRON jobs. I then encrypt the “targeted” database and send them over to my Ad Account audiences using FB’s API. From there FB matches the database to their data sets - and I get a 60-70% high match rate because of how I scrape my lists.
These lists are SO targeted and big enough to create very high quality lookalikes. I create a 1% US lookalike of this custom list.
And then we get into SETTING UP everything.

SETUPThis is the easiest FB Ads setup you’ll ever find on the internet.
You see, we’ve put in all the effort into our Offer Letter, Funnel, Creatives, Ad copy…
And most importantly, our targeting…
FB Ads are the easiest thing to setup. And here’s how you do it.

• Create a conversions campaign
• Create 1 Ad set
• Add the custom audience + 1% Lookalike to your targeting
• If you don’t have access to targeted lists, then use Interests specific to your prospects and narrow them down using filters
• Incase of interests - keep your audience size NOT more than 3-5M
• All genders, 18-65+, Advantage+ placements (auto placements)
• 2 Ads, 2 Creatives, 1 primary text copy
• Make sure domain is selected and domain events are prioritized

Obviously, you need to make sure your conversions API & Pixel are properly setup. I’ve previously written an entire post on how to setup cAPI properly - you can go find that post on my profile.
If you do exactly what I’ve written above, you should EASILY get prospects on a call that will happily pay you $5,000+ (provided you have a good offer)

Day 3
I woke up with Chloe cuddled up next to me in bed. Her head was resting on my chest and she was lightly snoring. I gently shifted and opened the curtains. I was preparing to be blinded by the pure white snow but I wasn’t. I didn’t see much at first as it is a window well but after I looked up it really started to seem strange. Sure it was snowing hard and there was a thick blanket of snow on the ground, but it was odd that it was still so dark outside. It almost seemed like someone had turned the brightness down if that makes sense. I checked the time on the clock just in case it was earlier in the morning than I thought but… it wasn’t the clock read 8:32 am.
“Hey… hey Chloe,” I mumbled gently, nudging her head.
“Mhmm,” She yawned, her eyes hardly open.
“Look outside, is it just me or is that strange?” I asked her pointing to the window.
“Give me a sec,” She said, reaching for her glasses on the nightstand.
She put them on and then looked out the window. She stared out the window for a minute and by the way she tilted her head I knew she was confused.
“That… that’s weird,” She said finally.
“What time is it?” She asked, turning toward me.
“8:32,” I answered.
“That’s weird then, it's almost like the sun isn’t out,” She observed getting up and fully opening the curtains to get a better look.
I got a little uncomfortable Chloe had taken meteorology for two years of high school and taken it as a minor in college. She wasn’t an expert but it still made me confused.
“Must be just a very thick cloud cover,” She said, eyeing it suspiciously.
I could tell she was a little nervous so I got up and put an arm around her.
“It’ll be okay the storm will pass in like a day or two anyways,” I said mustering my most encouraging voice.
She smiled at me and leaned into me: “I know, I just can’t help but worry sometimes you know.”
“Yeah I do,” I said.
It was right then when we were staring out that window that what my dad said yesterday began creeping back up into my mind. They’ll escape from the lab… they’ll kill you… the creatures will kill you!
“Who’s the creatures? What lab?” I thought to myself.
“What babe?” Chloe asked, looking up at me.
“Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to say that out loud, just something Dad had told me in his ramblings when he called me at the store last night,” I explained.
She nodded, “Well I wouldn’t take anything from him, he’s just a nut job,” she said, “I’m glad you're more like your mom than him.”
She gave me a cute little smile after that and I just smiled back.
I made my way upstairs and saw Gretchen and her boys were already having breakfast. Cinnamon toast crunch for the boys and Gretchen had made herself some pancakes and bacon.
“Any more?” I asked her motioning towards her plate.
“Yep, in the kitchen,” She said, pointing towards it.
“Thanks, sis!” I smiled.
She nodded and I got me and Chloe's plates put together. I then set my plate at the table and hers at the seat next to me, and then began eating. After a couple of minutes, Chloe walked in. Her eyes fell on the plate sitting next to mine.
“Thanks, babe,” She smiled, taking a seat in the chair and beginning to eat as well.
“Mommy, can we go play with the puppies outside?” Alan asked, giving her a big smile.
“Yes, just go put your coats on,” She said, giving Alan and Aaron a sweet little smile.
“Ok mommy,” They both said excitedly running off to their room.
“Alby why don’t you join your brothers,” She suggested giving him a look.
Alby who had his head in a book as always sighed and walked off to the room after his two brothers.
“Hey Chloe, does that blizzard look concerning to you?” Gretchen asked her the moment the boy's bedroom door closed.
Chloe looked outside again. The snow wasn’t falling that heavy at the moment.
“Yeah seems fine I’d have them come inside if it picks up anymore though,” Chloe explained after swallowing a large chunk of her pancake.
“No I mean look how dark it is,” Gretchen motioned outside.
“Oh, yeah me and Joey were talking about that earlier, just seems like a very thick cloud cover, but I’d keep an eye on them,” Chloe explained.
“I’ll keep two eyes,” Gretchen said as the three boys came out of the room wearing their big blue coats and boots.
They all hurried outside with the three dogs following quickly behind them. May and Moore jumped around with them in the snow while Herman looked like he was patrolling the backyard which wasn’t unordinary, but it was however odd to see how fixed his eyes were on the forest.
“Think he sees something?” Gretchen asked, sounding concerned.
“Probably a deer,” I suggested.
Grethen nodded and her concerns seemed to dissipate quickly.
I came back upstairs now changed into a flannel and jeans, and looked over to see the boys still outside playing. Chloe still sat at the table now with her laptop in front of her, and Gretchen was staying near the window to keep an eye on the boys.
“Any internet?” I asked while walking up to Chloe.
She let out a defeated sigh, “Nothin…” She was cut off by a distant pop sound, followed quickly by another, and then a third, then a fourth, it was silent again. I stood still and I knew that sound.
“Those were gunshots,” I said quickly, “I’m going to go check it out, and see what’s going on.”
“What? Babe stay here, it is not safe outside,” Chloe reasoned.
“Yes, which is why I need to go. Say that person was firing at a bear and now they're hurt and have no way to call help or something. I should go just in case.” I explained.
“And I’ll bring the rifle,” I added in an attempt to calm Chloe's nerves.
Gretchen moved from her spot at the window and was now calling the boys and dogs inside. I made my way downstairs and grabbed the rifle, my winter gear, and a pair of old satellite phones.
I then hurried back upstairs where Chloe now stood by the door worried.
“Chloe before I go I want to see if these will work,” I said, handing her one of the phones.
Her face lit up at it, it seemed the prospect of me being able to communicate with her calmed her nerves.
I pressed the little button and then talked into the phone, I heard although scratchy my voice then came from her phone.
“Ok, now test yours,” I told her.
She said hi to hers, then I heard her voice come faintly out of my phone.
“Alright, it works,” I said, happy that I wouldn’t have to face whatever was happening alone.
“Be safe,” She said, giving me a big hug.
Then Gretchen ran over and joined in followed then by Alan and Aaron.
“Be safe uncle,” Alan said, giving me a big smile.
“I will,” I said to all of them. “Is mom still sleeping?” I asked Gretchen quickly.
She nodded then I kissed Chloe goodbye and walked off into the blizzard. The snow of course had started to pick up significantly making my field of view almost nothing. I looked around at the other houses and saw nothing. No lights, no movement, no signs of life. It was then that I really realized how many people had left town. We were the only ones left on the street. I slowly made my way in the direction I’d heard the gunshots.
Bzzzzz… “Hey you ok,” Chloe asked through the phone.
“Wow, checking on me already, someone's needy,” I joked.
She let out a slight giggle, “Be safe,” She said.
“I will,” I said then Bzzzz… and she was gone again.
I continued onward when another faint sound broke through the sounds of the wind. It was some sort of screech or scream. I couldn’t entirely tell because it was so faint. I unslung the rifle from my shoulder and held it out ahead of me. Both the scream screech and gunshots came from the direction of the store. I felt my heart thumping through my chest as I got closer to the gas station. I gripped the rifle tighter as I took one step at a time, and I slowly made my way forward. I felt sweat begin to build on my temples despite the cold. My entire body began to shake, and I stopped for a moment to catch my breath. Calm down, calm down. I thought. I took slow deep breaths then started walking again.
I looked around to see where I was, but the snow was falling so hard that I could hardly see ahead of me. I squinted and thought I saw distant lights. I kept the rifle ahead and cautiously hurried towards them, as I got closer I realized that the sun had caught a slight gap through the storm and glinted the light perfectly off the back of a car. I sighed and kicked the snow in frustration.
Bzzzz… “Hey babe, do you know what happened?” Chloe's worried voice cut through my moment of frustration.
“I don’t know… I still haven’t made it over there, I got a little turned around.” I told her.
She paused for a second like she was thinking of something, “BABE! Your satellite should have a built-in GPS.”
I looked at the large phone and saw a small digital screen showing our neighborhood, which had two red dots on it. One was in our house and the other was two houses down in someone's driveway.
I chuckled, “Babe I only moved like two houses down, I must’ve been walking in circles.”
She burst out laughing, “Thank goodness I called you, make sure not to hang up because then the GPS shuts off,” She instructed.
“Understood, thanks, babe!” I said.
I walked slowly for another 15 minutes or so before just about a block from the store the signal was lost. I swore and angrily kicked the ground again. It’s ok. I thought you were only a block away.
I moved to the sidewalk so I could use the signs and mailboxes as markers that I was still walking straight. Then finally the store was in view. Carl’s car was the only car in the parking lot and I noticed a large scratch on the side, and one of the windows was shattered. I also noticed shelves had been moved against the windows and doors. I walked over and loudly knocked on the glass door. I saw eyes peeking through the glass and I pulled my scarf down to show my face. Carl moved the small shelf in front of the door and let me in.
I walked inside and he gave me a look towards the rifle.
“I heard gunshots,” I said.
“Oh…” I saw a dark scared look in his eyes.
“What happened?” I asked, looking into the man's eyes.
“Well, I saw something outside near the car. I thought it was a deer or something so I gave it no mind until I heard a metal scraping sound and then the car window shattered. I pulled my gun out from under the counter and made my way toward the door and cracked it open. I yelled a few times but it didn’t run so I poked my head out to get a better look. It wasn’t a deer. I didn’t get a good look. I just know it didn’t look friendly so I shot at it four times and it ran off into the blizzard. I know I hit it at least three times but it didn’t bleed. I… I’m scared.” He told it with a fear on his face that looked out of place.
“To be honest I’m surprised you even made it here without getting attacked.” He admitted.
“Did it screech at some point?” I asked, nervous about what the answer would be.
“Yeah, actually it did, a couple of minutes after I shot at it I heard something screech and I thought I could faintly see it through the falling snow.” He explained.
I nodded, “I need to get back home,” I said a new sense of urgency within me.
“I’m not letting you go back outside with that bulletproof monster thing on the loose,” Carl ordered, getting in between me and the door.
“I’m not staying while a bulletproof monster thing is loose in the neighborhood and can go attack my family at its whim,” I growled loud and sternly even though I didn’t entirely believe his story.
I pulled out the satellite phone and tried to call Chloe again. Nothing. I looked outside and saw that the blizzard had picked up considerably.
I let out a sigh: “I don’t think that blizzard will let me go home.”
Carl let out a sigh of relief and showed me to the small break room and let me take a seat at the table.
“Everything going well over at your house?” He asked.
“Good, enjoying the break of things,” I said, giving him a smile.
“I wish it was a break,” Carl signed, “I’ve been hearing strange things in the blizzard for days.”
“What sorts of things?” I asked.
“Screams, screeches, howls, and all sorts of unholy things. Sounds to me like the devil himself is out there.” He growled.
“Strange, very strange. How’s your family?” I asked, trying to change the subject to something less crazy.
“Fine, they haven’t really noticed that anything is wrong, I mostly hear the noises when I’m outside.” He explained. “What about your family?”
“Good, we didn’t even know anything was wrong until I heard the gunshots today.”
“Probably, because you're so far from the center.”
“What?”
“Well whatever animal is in town that attacked my car, seems to be dwelling mostly in the center of town.”
“How do you know that?” I asked not really believing him but still curious.
“From everyone who has come into the store in the past 3 days. I haven’t been the first to see whatever it is.” He explained in such a way that I almost wanted to believe him.
“Have any other vehicles or things been damaged?” I inquired trying to pry more at the information this man clearly held.
“Bob said something about his shed being broken in too but not much else. I’d ask Bob for more information but he was so drunk he could hardly tell me that.”
“I wouldn’t trust a thing Bob says especially when he’s drunk like that,” I told him.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t have if I wasn’t getting strange news from more trustworthy people.”
“Fair…”
Ka-Thunk! The loud noise of the store's door opening interrupted our chat.
“Carl, are you in here? You ok?” A man's familiar voice yelled into the store.
Carl walked out of the room and out to where the man was.
“Yes I’m ok…” Carl began before the man interrupted him.
“I heard gunshots, what happened?” He asked.
“Here come sit down and I’ll tell you,” Carl instructed as he walked the man into the room.
I recognized the man the moment he walked in, his name was Fred Garrison. Fred was tall and bulky with a large brown beard and always wore a baseball cap. The cap he wore today was red and white and clearly worn with age.
“Howdy Joey,” He greeted in his thick Southern accent.
“Hi Fred, how are you doing?” I asked.
“Good, good, just want to know why Carl was shooting his gun like a demon from hell was after him.” He said motioning to Carl.
Carl then told Fred the same story he told me. Fred listened the entire time but looked and sounded even more disbelieving than I had.
“Carl, you realize I was joking when I said something about a demon from hell, I’m supposed to believe that some monster thing was lurking outside your store and scratched your car.” He yelled in frustration.
“I wasn’t saying it was a monster, I’m just saying that deer die after they get shot four times,” Carl said giving Fred a frustrated look.
“Ugh, Joey do you believe this bull crap?” He yelled, turning to face me.
I thought about what exactly to say, and maybe I stopped to think if I actually believed Carl then finally I spoke; “Fred I’ve known Carl for most of my life and the man has never once lied to me, do I think what scratched his car was a monster? No, but I also trust this man, and I think there may have been a very strange-acting deer in front of the store, and maybe Carl thought he had better aim than he did.”
Fred huffed then finally seemed to relent; “Well if there ain’t anything wrong imma leave.” Fred said standing up and walking out of the room.
Carl hurried after him; “Fred, I don't want you to leave. The weather is really bad right now.”
Carl motioned to the snow which was falling so fast and in such vast quantities that it made seeing anything outside of the store impossible. Fred grumbled again and after a small argument he finally relented and we all went to sit back down at the table.
After half an hour or so the snow finally slowed down and started falling like slow small flakes.
“Alright, it’s as safe as it’s going to be if you want to leave,” Carl said, poking his head into the room.
“Thank you!” I said, smiling at him.
He nodded and I pulled out the phone.
Bzzzz… “Chloe, are you there?” I asked, trying not to let my worry show.
“Joey, thank goodness you're ok! What happened?” She asked, sounding a little nasally like she’d been crying.
“I’ll tell you when I get back but yes I’m ok,” I explained quickly, and then before Carl could object I left the store with my rifle slung over my back.
I started walking back to the house. It was slow work and now there was an additional four or five inches of snow which only made the task harder.
“You ok?” Chloe asked after a couple of minutes.
I brought the phone to my head and responded: “Yeah I’m ok just a lot more snow on the ground now.” I said.
“Are you almost home?” She asked.
“Yeah just down the street,” I said.
“Ok,” She said.
Bzzz… and she hung up. I kept walking forward, my eyes locked on the house when she walked out holding the other rifle and ran over to hug me when she saw me.
Day 7
I woke up almost the same way as the days before except Chloe wasn’t there with me. In a panic, I sat up quickly and called her name: “Chloe!”
“I’m right here dummy,” She said from the window.
I looked over and saw her standing in front of it.
“I thought I saw something weird but I can’t get a good look because it’s a window well.” She said, giving me a look of defeat.
I got up and looked through the window well. You couldn’t see much because of the snow and the way the window well was, but it looked like something was walking around in the front yard. Me and Chloe changed quickly then made our way upstairs and to the window looking out front. It was hard to tell through the foggy window and falling snow but we were able to see large sewer lid-sized spiders crawling about. I jumped back in shock and Chloe let out a small squeal.
“What kind of satan spawn are those things?” Chloe sputtered out, a terrified look on her face.
I looked closer, not responding, and this is when I realized although their resemblance was similar to spiders they were not spiders. There seemed to be two distinct types of them: one type resembled large slug-like things with 8 long spider-like legs. It also possessed a long but narrow head; its head almost looked like an arrow point. The other type was much nastier looking. They possessed eight legs covered in serrated spines. Their bodies resemble closely to wasp bodies with a large raised abdomen that brandished a massive stinger. I saw they were surrounding a large dog. It wasn’t ours it looked like our neighbors, the Garrisons, a black lab named Blue. The dog started barking out in an attempt to scare them away, but it was a dozen or so spider things against one dog.
Finally, after a while, the dog reached down to try and bite one of them but it jumped up and stung the dog in the face. The dog began to yelp and shook the thing off, but I could tell immediately that the stinger had hit its mark. The dog looked weaker and another stinger stung it, then another, then another, they all began stinging it until it collapsed. The dog still tried to fit but there was no use. It seemed to be paralyzed. It was one last whimper before one of the slugs walked up to the dog's mouth and started crawling inside shedding its long legs in the process. The dog let out this horrible retching choking bark sound. Chloe let out a small sob as the slug fully went down the dog's throat and then disappeared. The dog gave one final whimper before it went silent. Then the stinger spiders around it began webbing up the body. I was impressed by how quickly they were able to do so in under a minute the body was covered in a thick webbing. After which the spiders dragged it away and disappeared into the blizzard.
I looked over and saw how horrified Chloe was, her normally pretty face was twisted into an expression of fear and disgust.
“What in h-e double hockey sticks?” She finally said.
“What happened, why are the dogs barking?” Gretchen yawned as she stepped out of her bedroom.
Her face turned more concerned when she saw me and Chloe's disgusted face. Then before I could explain what had happened a few of them made their way back over and started inspecting the house then one of us made a sound or something and it jumped at the window. I pulled the blinds down and quietly whispered for Gretchen and Chloe to get the kids and my mom downstairs. In the meantime, I rushed downstairs also and grabbed the rifle. I sat upstairs for a second looking through the windows to try and see the things but it seemed wherever I was they weren’t, and in a mix of defeat and fear I went downstairs and joined my family. I set the rifle down on the couch and hugged Chloe close to me.
We all huddled on the floor listening. We heard scratching sounds on the doors and then windows. I held my breath but nothing shattered. Then the sounds moved from the walls to the roof. They scurried around up there in a seemingly never-ending attempt to find access to our house. Then suddenly Herman let out one solitary defensive bark. It was deep and intimidating but I knew it was likely the end if I didn’t stop him. I started to stand up but Chloe grabbed my hand, she looked terrified, but I knew I had to stop Herman so I squeezed her hand and then let go.
I quietly made my way upstairs and saw Herman standing guard by the back door. I pulled my revolver from my belt and slowly made my way over to him. The slight creaks in the old wood floor sounded like sirens signaling my location. After a minute I wrapped a hand around his collar and started scanning the room for May and Moore. I saw their booth huddled on the coach whimpering quietly. I called them over and hesitantly they came then I led the three dogs downstairs and just as I took the last step down. SCREECH!!
It came from upstairs and it sounded angry and in pain. I hurried back upstairs with Chloe hot on my heels despite what I’d told her. I peeked into the living room from the stairs and saw a slug running around the room engulfed in flames. It was leaving a trail of small sparks and ashes behind it and for a moment I wasn’t sure what to do. I figured I’d miss if I shot at it so I ran over to try and grab it. Meanwhile, I saw Chloe dart for the back door.
CRASH! One of the windows shattered and several of the stingers jumped into the house, and before I could stop it one of them jumped onto my back. I screamed and reached back trying to grab it but I felt a sharp pain in my hand. Herman emerged from the basement and almost immediately jumped onto me and with a loud crunch it was dead. I started to feel a little dizzy but tried to help. There were still six spiders in the house, and Chloe stood by the back door trying to get a shot at one of them with the rifle. The stingers continued to run around the floor and I felt another jab its stinger into my ankle. I looked over at the disgusting thing, picked it up by its legs and threw it into another stinger. BANG! The stinger I’d thrown and the one it’d landed on both exploded in a mess of yellow-greenish slop. There were still four stingers and at this point the flaming slug had curled up in a ball on the floor. I had an idea and I sprinted for the fireplace grabbing the fire pick. As I suspected, two of the stingers followed and I skewered them both with the fire pick. The last two scurried in the corner almost like they were planning when BANG! One of them exploded into another mess of slop and the last one made a rush for Herman, but in a surprisingly quick movement for the big dog he pinned the stinger's legs onto the ground with his paw and proceeded to eat the stinger.
We all stood there for a second breathing heavily when my eyes met the small fire around the dead slug. I dropped the fire pick, grabbed a blanket from the couch, and used it to quickly snuff the fire.
“Is everything ok up there?” Gretchen asked, very concerned.
“Y...” I tried to say but I started to feel loopy.
I started to shake and stumble and I remembered the two stings they’d gotten on me, then suddenly I remembered nothing.
My eyes opened slowly and at first I didn’t see much but my vision quickly cleared and I saw Gretchen looking over me.
“Wh… what happened?” I stammered out.
I was in such a daze that I could hardly remember it.
“Those spider, bug, whatever stung you a few times. I was worried it had really hurt you.” Gretchen said, giving me a hug.
I sat up and felt the pain in my back and in my foot.
“Where’s everyone else?” I asked.
“Mom and Chloe are both cleaning upstairs, and the boys are just down the hall.” She explained.
I stood up and wobbled a little, but walked over to the stairs.
“Joey!” Gretchen called after me, “You're probably sick, you need to lie down.” She tried to order me.
“No I’m going to go help clean so mom doesn’t have to,” I told her.
Gretchen let out a frustrated huff then I walked up the stairs. I turned down the hall and saw the mess that was in the living room. The parts and slop that were many of the bugs were still everywhere. I looked over to the shattered window and saw the glass had been cleaned up, and the window had been covered by a large piece of plywood. My mom walked out of the kitchen with a broom and dustpan.
“Sweetie you’re ok,” She yelled with excitement hurrying over and giving me a hug.
I hugged her back and we stood there for a second.
“Do you feel ok?” She asked, looking up at me.
“I’m fine mom, where’s Chloe?” I asked.
“She’s checking to make sure nothing outside was damaged,” My mom said.
I immediately felt a mix of frustration and worry fill me and I hurried for the back door yelling, “You let her go outside alone!”
I immediately followed her fresh boot prints through the snow and around the side of the house. I saw her standing there looking at a group of scratches from the spiders, the rifle slung by her side. I let out a slight noise and in one quick motion, she turned toward me with the rifle aimed right at my face. As soon as she saw it was me she ran over and tried to hug me but I was already hurrying her inside. I didn't want to be out there any longer than we needed to be.
Day 10
I sat by the window watching the outside as I had before when I saw something large and dark dart down the street followed by two smaller ones. The largest looked to be about the size of a horse while the other two were about the size of a deer. They looked so off though, especially the big one. It almost looked like it had six legs, but it was so hard to tell through the snow.
I gasped at the monstrous look of the creatures: that’s probably what Carl saw I thought. Then in a slight panic, I grabbed the blinds and pulled them down. I quietly hushed the boys and had everyone go downstairs. I sat at the foot of the stairs, rifle in hand, but nothing happened.
Day 11
Pop! Pop! Those two gunshots were what woke me up early that morning. I sat up in a panic and almost immediately put the situation together. Those gunshots were from the store, from Carl's revolver, and they were likely his last two because he’d fired four the last time I heard it and his model of revolver could fit 6 rounds.
I got up and immediately started throwing my winter gear on. Chloe also sat up with a worried look on her face.
“You can’t be going out there,” She said, sounding much more worried now.
“Babe, I need to make sure he’s ok. I’m not leaving him to die.” I said defiantly.
“Well, I’m not letting you go out there to die… unless I go with you. You’re a terrible shot!” She yelled, getting very upset.
“Ok, then get your gear on,” She nodded and we both got ready quickly.
After I was fully dressed I walked over to the gun safe we had in the hall and began to peruse. Along with the revolver and two rifles, we also owned a long-barreled 12 gauge shotgun, a semi-automatic rifle, and another hunting rifle with a heat view mode on the scope. I grabbed the 12 gauge and walked back into the room handing Chloe the sniper rifle. I heard light footsteps and looked down the hallway to see Gretchen descending the stairs. She walked over and met me by the doorway.
“Are you leaving?” She asked, looking like she already knew the answer.
“Yes, Chloe is coming as back-up,” I explained looking over at Chloe who was now loading the sniper rifle.
“Bring mom and the kids down here while we're gone, and keep one of the rifles on you,” I ordered and she nodded running upstairs.
After a few more quick and tense minutes we were standing by the door with all our winter gear, the two guns, and headlamps. I waited next to Chloe as she showed Gretchen how to use the satellite phone.
“I love you, be safe,” Gretchen said, giving me a big hug.
I hugged her back trying not to cry, “Will be back in 30 minutes max,” was all I could say.
“You keep him safe,” Gretchen ordered as she hugged Chloe.
“He’d die without me,” Chloe joked.
Then we both walked out the front door and into the snowy night. It was so dark out darker than I’d ever seen it before, and now the snow was deep almost up to our waists. Luckily we had snow shoes that made us sink only halfway up our shins. I walked ahead with the shotgun out and ready, and Chloe stood behind me navigating our way through the dark snowy night.
The cold wind chilled us to the bone as we continued. I could tell Chloe was scared, I was too but I didn’t say anything. We slowly continued our way through the blizzard, not giving up despite its relentless attacks. Each footstep was another loud crunch that seemed to me as loud and obvious as nails on a chalkboard, but nothing seemed to hear it or if they did they just didn’t care. I just kept praying and hoping that Carl was ok and that it was just like last time, but something in my gut knew the man was probably long dead.
Off in the distance over the howling wind, I thought I heard something. Maybe a scream or a yell I wasn’t sure but it sounded human. Then again but this time it was fainter and I could tell it came from the same direction as the store. I hurried forward even faster with Chloe grabbing the back of my coat to keep up.
Finally, after what seemed like an hour we arrived in front of the store. It looked like it had gone through hell and back. I saw the car that had been parked out front was now tipped over and extremely beat up, but even more so was the store. Every single window was shattered and the shelves that had been blocking them were completely ripped apart. As we walked up to our feet began making crunching sounds as each step was on shards of broken glass. Then we were at the door and I took a deep breath thinking of everyone I’d ever loved. I turned around and gave Chloe a big tight hug then I raised the gun and kicked the door open. Silence. Nothing happened and I walked with little hindrance into the destroyed store. Food and junk and wood and glass. It was everywhere, and then there was blood. A large trail of blood led into one of the backrooms. Chloe noticed too and she let out a small gasp. I motioned for her to stay then I slowly walked into the room. Blood covered the entire floor; the table that had once been there was now a shattered mess of splinters. It looked like a tornado had come through and thrown everything around, but I saw the doorway from this breakroom to the other. I thought I heard a faint sound there. In one swift motion, I kicked open the door with the gun raised and saw what was inside.
This section of the building was a small area where truckers or travelers who had nowhere to stop could stay. Essentially it was a small hostel, and it was divided into two rooms. The first room, the one I’d entered was a large room double the size of a classroom. It had four rows of bunk beds with 5 bunk beds on each row. It was a bit excessive, yes but it got Carl much-needed revenue. The other room directly to the right of me was the shower room, a long tiled room with 8 shower stalls and a wall of lockers.
The bunk room was absolutely torn apart. Feathers littered the ground along with shreds of fabric. Multiple of the beds had been completely toppled over and one that seemed to have been thrown lie in a shattered mess on the other side of the room. Another few bore large scratch marks far larger than what the stingers or slugs could’ve produced. It again like the first two sections of the store looked like a tornado had gone through and torn everything to bits. After my assessment of the room, I looked down to see the blood trail leading into the shower room. This room was just as bad as the others with almost all the stall doors knocked off their hinges and the lockers completely pulled out of the wall. This is when I heard a horrible sound. The sound of flesh being torn and ripped and consumed. It was horrible to hear and even more so because it was happening in one of the stalls closest to me. I turned and my light illuminated a large thing the size of a large deer ripping into the body of Carl.
It looked horrible; it had four long spindly dog-like legs with four large paw feet that ended in large talons. Its body was weird and slimy with a large back abdomen that looked like it was swelling. Right as the body connected with the neck two more oversized arms sat. Its entire body seemed to be covered in a bony exoskeleton with small gaps around the joints, stomach, and face. They were much longer than the legs and brandished large talons the size of steak knives at the end. It hardly had a neck and its head was small with a horrible-looking mouth that brandished massive carnassials and canines. Its head overall was fairly small and round. Its lower jaw split into two down the middle looking like large mandibles, but the most disturbing part of the face was the eyes. There were 4 and they were brown and very mammalian looking but worst of all I recognized those eyes. Just days ago those eyes looked into mine as the slug went down its throat. Somehow Blue the black lab had turned into this thing.
The moment I walked in the creature turned around and its eyes met mine. It let out a screech that chilled me to the bone and then lunged for me BANG! I was momentarily stunned and I couldn’t hear the ringing in my ears. Then everything came back into vision and the creature was hunched back clearly also stunned. I took advantage of this and started running, but then my foot slipped in the blood and I crashed to the floor. Searing pain ran into me and it felt like a sledgehammer had been slammed into my face. I started to stand when the pain from the rest of my body kicked in, but I remembered the creature, got up, and kept running. I ran into the bunk room slamming straight into Chloe.
“Wha…” She started to ask when the creature came screeching into the room.
Not having time to run I pulled her behind a bunk. I saw the horror in her eyes and I just shushed her. The creature slowly walked around looking for us. I noticed that it walked on its four legs with its big arms folded into its chest like a praying mantis. It took a step in our direction and Chloe raised the rifle and aimed. Bang! This gun, especially compared to the shotgun, was almost nothing in noise, but I saw the bullet hit the creature right in the chest. It let out a loud screech but one more of anger rather than pain. It then started sprinting right for us. I thought about shooting again but figured that wouldn’t do anything so I turned my headlamp on and threw it to the other side of the room. It slammed into the wall and then shattered on the linoleum floor, and the creature immediately turned and started running for it. I grabbed Chloe’s hand and hurried toward the doorway with her just as I heard the creature screech in frustration.
Me and Chloe sprinted through the snow. She was leading the way with her headlamp while I followed behind with my shotgun out ready to shoot if I had to, and in my head, I was screaming to myself for grabbing a shotgun instead of the semi-automatic. I had one more shot before I had to reload so I was determined to make it count. In the snow behind us, I heard the creature's angered screeches as it ran toward us. I stopped and turned around aiming the shotgun.
I could tell without even looking at her that Chloe was terrified. To be fair I was too. Then with one more screech, it appeared on the edge of the light growling and hissing at us. I noticed it was dripping a thick liquid onto the ground that appeared to be blood. Good, it does bleed which means it can die. I thought, and that greatly increased my confidence. Then it made its charge. It was smarter than I gave it credit for because it ran in a zig-zag and the one round Chloe fired completely missed. Then it lunged towards me and one of its large mantis arms slashed deep into my leg right below the knee. I let out a scream and fell to the ground. Then before I could react its teeth were beginning to rip at my back. Bang! Chloe’s first shot got the thing's attention and it moved its mouth from my body. Bang! The second shot right through one of its praying mantis arms, and Bang! The third shot hit it dead in the forehead but its exoskeleton took all the damage. The creature jumped over me and ran towards Chloe who was only about 6 feet away. I watched my whole world begin to fall apart when it jumped on top of her. I saw her struggling to keep its jaws away from her face, and suddenly nothing else seemed to matter but her. I didn’t care if I would die as long as she was safe.
I stood up despite the searing pain in my leg and made a snowball in my left hand.
“HEY JACKWAD!” I screamed at the thing and then threw a snowball for good measure.
Its attention turned back towards me and it sprinted back and jumped onto me knocking me to the ground before I could land a shot. It pinned my right hand holding the shotgun to the ground while I tried to fight its lashing head off with my left. I felt its claws digging into my arms and legs and its arms were unfolding as a likely attempt to kill me, but I never saw what it was about to do because that’s when I executed my plan. I noticed that its bleeding leg was the one holding the gun down so I put all my strength into moving that arm and managed to get it out from under. Then CRUNCH! Its mouth bit down on my left hand and wrist. It opened its mouth and was about to close it to sever my hand, but in a quick motion I wedged the shotgun into its mouth, and BANG!!!!!

New My Son Sanctuary
Deep Periphery, 50 light years spin-coreward of Spitz
May 3rd, 3145
Elizabeth Hugh was meditating in her small cabin. The smell of lilac and cedar from the gardens surrounding the temple wafted gently through the open windows and doors, coming in on the warm spring breeze. Her cream colored robes marked her as a Sister in the Order that had made this uncharted world its home. She was comfortable here, her eyes closed, her hair - once vibrant and red, now gray - braided and expertly tied with a piece of twine. She - who had once been called a Queen - contented herself with simple meals taken at a shared table, and a simple cot where she could lay her head.
How far she had come was a testament to the person who had held this post before her - for Elizabeth had been a Queen, the terrible pirate who had led the Mailed Fist Marauders. They had raided all throughout the spinward periphery, from the Raven Alliance to the Fronc Reaches. Brutal and destructive, the Marauders left nothing but death and destruction in their wake. Badly injured in a fire fight with the TDF, they had made a wild jump into an uncharted system. Getting weaker, Elizabeth had fought to stay in command, but she was unceremoniously dumped into an escape pod and shot at the planet she would come to learn was “New My Son Sanctuary”, a Buddhist temple and retreat settled centuries ago during the height of the Old Star League.
While being nursed back to health, Elizabeth discovered that the sanctuary had BattleMechs. She began to scheme on how to use this information to get back at her old pirate band. The Abbess had figured out what she was plotting, saying she had a raging fire burning within her - and that it would consume her if she tried. A deal was struck - the Abbess would support her if she could defeat her in battle.
Elizabeth had laughed, letting her pirate Queen side into full view before this woman for the first time. The Abbess didn’t react and instead led her to the Mech hanger. Here, two ancient ARC-2K Archers had been prepped by the Monks and Nuns. Instead of their robes they wore gray uniforms and carried a mix of antipersonal and anti-armor weapons - Elizabeth had not been prepared for that, nor with how well the two machines had been maintained. She was a natural MechWarrior, born and raised into a pirate band, but she was starting to feel she was in over her head. She was right.
After her defeat, shocked at how easily it had been managed she had stood before the Abbess in broken humility. It was the moment that had changed her life. “You have a choice. We have the ability to send you away, if you choose to go back to your old life we can make that happen, though I will tell you now you will die. Or you can stay here. Here you can live and thrive. If you choose to stay here, then go to the well and bring me water.” Elizabeth had stood there for a moment, but had turned and taken a step towards the wooden bucket by the door. It was the first step that would define her new life.
She ended her meditation with a carefully exhaled breath and stood. Despite being almost 70 years of age, and the terrible wound she had suffered, she still was able to move with the grace of an athlete. Even with the ever growing pain and itchiness around her old wound. The meditation and her ability to focus her mind kept the worst of it at bay.
This was because she still trained every day with the younger Monks and Nuns that called this Sanctuary home, while also maintaining her duties as Abbess. Duties that required attending now. She stepped out onto the wooden walkway that meandered through the blossoming lilacs and flowers of the garden and walked slowly through the morning sun towards the open courtyard that would hold her visitor - Brother Michael of the Brotherhood of Randis. She caught him staring at a fountain, keeping their koi pond aerated. “Brother Michael!” Her voice - which had once screamed names, now was soft and light. The man turned and smiled.
“Abbess!” He bowed slightly towards her. “Thank you again for your hospitality. The extra rice and wheat will be greatly helpful for the victims of the Broken Bones faction.” Elizabeth nodded and smiled, “And the extra missiles provided by your facilities will help keep us engaging.” He frowned, “But again, I must beg of you - Wolf Empire forces have been raiding deep into this region, can we assign any extra guards to you?”
Elizabeth shook her head, “No Brother Michael, we are fine.” She gestured towards the gardens and towards the wider temple complex. “While they might come into this system, there is little chance they would see this and think of us as having resources worth taking or wasting their time on. Our larger manufacturing capabilities are deep underground in the old Star League supply depot.” She paused, “Would you care to join me for tea?”
Brother Michael shook his head and smiled, “I am glad you feel safe but if you change your mind we will come when you call. And yes, I will join you for tea before leaving.”
With that, Elizabeth and Michael adjourned to the dining area where they discussed logistics and how the Sanctuary and the Brotherhood could continue to support one another over the next few months of operations.

“Listen up!” Star Captain Maria Stims floated into the conference room and strapped herself into a chair. Around her were the young MechWarriors assigned to her trinary. Their mission was simple, follow old Explorer Corp routes to uncover ComStar or Word of Blake depots or other useful information. “Our next target is an isolated world called New My Son Sanctuary. Records were difficult to uncover. The Star League became aware of it during the Periphery Uprising, shortly before the vile Usurper struck. They had created a supply depot away from the colony that had come here - some kind of religious order.” She looked down at her data pad. “ComStar made contact roughly 100 years ago - supposedly the colony still existed but that was all that the Acolyte had recorded.” She placed the data pad down on the velcro strip intended to hold it place when in zero G. “Obviously with both ComStar and the old Star League having been here, it is important that we get eyes on this world and determine what - if anything - is of value to Clan Wolf. Quiaff?” The table gave her the affirmation she was seeking. “Questions?’
One of the MechWarriors, brash and aggressive, quickly raised his hand, “When we get there will we strike immediately?” She could see the eagerness in his eyes.
“Neg. We shall follow custom and issue a batchal for a Trial of Possession of the world. We have no reason to believe that those that are there are even warriors, and we are not pirates to raid and attack undefended targets.” That was what David wanted though, he felt the blood lust and the eagerness for war. She turned sharply to the other warriors, “Any other questions? Good. We jump in one hour, then we will burn 2g into the system. We estimate three days until landing. Dismissed.”
The Wolf warriors went to their duties eagerly, hoping that this landing would be contested, hoping that they would have a chance to howl and hunt.

Abbess Elizabeth and two of her Monks were reviewing the telescope and radar telemetry coming in. It had been three days since their systems - ancient Star League communications equipment - had alerted them to the unexpected arrival of a JumpShip. The Wolf Empire forces had eagerly announced themselves with a standard Clan Batchall, and Elizabeth had decided to wait till they landed. She calmly worked a string of beads hanging from the sash she had tied around her waist as her advisors and she discussed what they were seeing. They helped her focus and think of a plan. Their small arms and handful of mechs and vehicles would not be up to the task of fighting off what they estimated to be a full trinary of Clan OmniMechs. But their Batchall and code of honor might be helpful. In more ways than one.
The challenge had been simple. The Wolf Empire was claiming this world and all resources upon it. They had not mentioned the Supply Depot but Elizabeth knew that was probably why they were here.
Elizabeth nodded to her advisors, “So we are decided then?” They both nodded their consent. She turned to their Star League equipment and switched it on. “Empire ship Kerenksy’s Blood. This is the independent settlement of New My Son Santuary, I am Abbess Elizabeth, leader of the religious order that resides here. I am transmitting landing coordinates. We accept your batchall, and wish to meet to discuss terms. I shall have one of my monks wait for you.”
A short amount of lag later, allowing for the signal to go out and for them to respond, a woman’s voice crackled to life. “Aff, Abbess. We shall meet to discuss terms. Kerensky’s Blood out.” The radio went silent.
Elizabeth nodded, “Well then, I must go prepare.”

The landing had gone smoothly, with the Monks providing clear direction and instruction to the experienced DropShip crew. The old Union-C had participated in the original Clan Invasion of the Inner Sphere a century ago. It now was used by this inexperienced Trinary on a mission of great importance to their Empire. As the dust cleared, ground crews approached swiftly to prepare the Union. Star Captain Maria stopped them quickly, not until the crew of the DropShip could confirm that no trickery was afoot.
Standing on the tarmac, she watched as the ground crews worked with the DropShip crew and with a quick hand signal saying everything was alright she finally relaxed. This changed in an instance when a person close behind her cleared their throat. “Star Captain Maria?” She whirled to see a young man dressed in a cream robe, his hands politely clasped in front of him. His face was serene with no sign of fear or alarm. His only ornamentation was a set of beads tied to a sash. He bowed slightly as she turned to face him. “The Abbess is this way.” Her Trinary - really just cubs if she thought about it - followed behind her. They were eager to fight and pillage but she had explained that the rules of engagement must be followed.
She was disturbed that there was no fear apparent on this young man’s face. Everyone seemed to think their arrival was completely ordinary in fact. She felt something was wrong, but couldn’t put her finger on what. But the monk was already walking away so she gestured for her MechWarriors to follow her and strode forward trying not to let her unease get the best of her.
Away from the space port, the colony became very quiet. Maria was impressed with the beauty of the gardens and architecture. But this was no place of warriors, and she was mildly contemptuous of the monks she saw tending to the flowers and gardens. She heard one of the MechWarriors behind her comment on food that food eats and she laughed internally though she wouldn’t let it show on her face.
They finally emerged into a courtyard where a table was set up. Around the courtyard stood a handful of Monks, and sitting at the table, puttering with a tea pot and tray was an older woman. Star Captain Maria paused for a brief second for on the table were two bare blades - two kiem style blades, one decorated in garnets the other with amethysts. Despite the jeweled ornament, both blades looked functional - and sharp. Her MechWarriors noticed the blades as well and stopped at the well manicured grass edge of the Courtyard.
The Abbess gave no sign that she saw them or even was aware of their existence. Maria decided to stand on tradition. “The Wolves of Kerensky have claimed this world for their own. What tame dogs defend it?” She called out with conviction, her voice projecting the ancient challenge clearly through the air.
The Abbess looked up and smiled faintly, “Tame dog is it? That I might be, that I might be!” At this she laughed, “Please, come forward and sit. I have prepared tea. We shall outline our defenses and options, and if I remember correctly, choose the place of combat. Is that correct?” She began to pour the tea, “And this will be for a Trial of Possession - primarily of the old Star League supply depot. It is fully operational by the way.”
Maria paused. This Abbess was not what she had expected from a Periphery backwater far off the map. She began to approach when one of her MechWarriors, a hot head named David, stepped forward, “What is this?” He demanded, gesturing to encompass the entirety of the table and the courtyard. The Abbess just looked at him. “We come to claim this world and you wish us to drink tea like children?!”
“MechWarrior David!” Maria snapped loudly, “Stand down!” He looked outraged. The Abbess did not seem to have any reaction at all. Maria stepped forward, “My apologies Abbess, some of my MechWarriors are new and this is their first mission.” She sat and took the offered cup of tea, she sipped at it cautiously. It was delicious and fresh, green and light on her tongue. “Which is what I have brought: 15 Wolf Empire MechWarriors with a range of light and medium OmniMechs. What forces do you bid?”
The Abbess smiled. “Myself.”
Maria stopped for a second, “My apologies, but you wanted to discuss a battle challenge.” She placed her tea down, “I cannot fight an old woman.” The Abbess laughed.
“Pick a blade.” The Abbess smiled. Maria looked at them both for a moment and reached for the garnet encrusted blade. Her hand was quick, her movement sure but as her fingers wrapped around the blade the amethyst blade flashed in the light and was at her throat.
The Clan MechWarriors all stepped forward. Maria raised her other hand and ordered them to stop. “If the Abbess wanted me dead, I would be dead. She is trying to demonstrate that we should acknowledge her as a warrior.” Maria nodded and let go of the blade on the table, the amethyst sword disappeared, silently finding a scabbard within the robes of the Abbess. Maria considered how her people were surrounded by very calm Monks and Nuns wearing similar robes.
“I would like to propose a duel. Myself against one of your warriors. First, the duel must be between equal equipment, second if we emerge successful, the Wolf Empire must cede all claim on this world and it’s people. Third, the person who I face, if they lose, must join the Sanctuary.”
Maria shook her head, “That doesn’t seem entirely fair. Whatever BattleMechs you have would be keyed for your people, mine would not know the first thing about them or be comfortable with them.”
Elizabeth nodded, “Fair. I shall grant you a period of two weeks to familiarize yourself with the machines. You will have access to both BattleMechs we will use, whichever one you choose I shall take the other. You can have both for the two week period. The battle shall be fought within the bamboo forests to our east. The victor shall be the first person to bypass the other’s armor and go internal.”
Before Maria could speak, David spoke. “I demand the honor of accepting this challenge for the Wolf Empire!” Maria frowned, as David was one of her best pilots - but an absolute hot head. They knew nothing about the machines. But she was stuck. David had unexpectedly bound her to this Trial.
Star Captain Maria stood, “Well bargained and done.”
Elizabeth stood and bowed, “Well bargained and done.”

True to her word, two ARC-2K Archers had been brought to the Kerensky’s Blood. Despite their age, they were well maintained. One of Maria’s Mechtechs informed her that - if he hadn’t seen their service records, he would have assumed they had been preserved right off of the assembly line. He had been incredibly impressed. Despite their age and primitive technology - compared to the Clans - both were towering examples of the powerful weapons and capabilities of the Archer class. The LRM and Large laser combo made for a dangerous and deadly machine, elegant and straightforward.
As with the blades, both Mechs followed a similar pattern. Both were painted an off white cream color, one decorated in red, the other purple, with stylized flower designs. Maria had her techs go over them in detail within the first few hours and they had signed off. Other than the paint, both were identical. There were no hidden changes, no traps. This was going to be a shear test of skill and stamina - the old woman against the young pup.
David had chosen the red Archer, the orchid design appealing to his sense of style. “Red like the flame that burns within me!” he had quipped as he climbed up into the cockpit. He had begun by running the mech through its paces in what would become the battlefield. Testing the laser and missile systems. He complained bitterly about how primitive they were, comparing the targeting and tracking systems to iron sights. Maria’s concern grew. She ordered him to keep going and practicing while her techs continued to dig into both BattleMechs. When he exhausted his ammo, she was prepared to argue for more but when she opened the discussion more was simply provided. A large truck pulled up to their DropShip, and the Sanctuary workers helped to unload the ammo bins.
While Maria was incredibly impressed with the professionalism and the dignity in which everyone operated, including invitations to dinner and tea, she was uneasy. They behaved with incredible honor and she must respect that - but she had a sinking feeling that within two days she would be leaving this world in defeat. The Abbess was serene and calm, and the only preparation Maria had seen her perform was practicing tai chi in the courtyard.
She tried to give what wisdom she could to David, but he was headstrong and confident, eager to prove his value as a warrior in a perfect duel of honor that would highlight his abilities to the Clan. He scorned her cautions and words, and enjoyed his two weeks of throwing an incredibly large amount of missiles down range.
Maria frowned and was also aware that the DropShip captain was watching this unfold uneasily as well. Both discussed what would happen and both grew worried. The Abbess would return to pick up the lilac Archer, and then both would head towards the forest.

David smiled smugly as he followed the Abbess down the winding path. It would diverge ahead and both would have a few minutes to get to their respective staging areas. The Archer did move smoothly under his command, and he was vibrating with eagerness to get into this duel and claim this world for the Empire. When they hit the break, the Abbess turned. His comms crackled to life, “MechWarrior David of the Wolf Empire, please follow the designated path to your staging area. When you are ready please signal the Monk who is your attendant. He will signal my attendant and we will begin.”
“Aff, Abbess” He shot off immediately and turned down the path. He quickly reached the staging area as he could see on his heads up display that Elizabeth had reached hers. Their battle area was a small forest with rolling hills. Ideal for ranged combat. He reviewed everything he had studied and practiced and after taking a steadying breath bared his teeth like a wolf and sent the signal to the Monk. A single flag was waved and a red firework shot off into the sky. A moment later a purple firework exploded and he slammed his Mech forward as fast as it could go straight towards the Abbess. It was too far for his LRMs, but he would close that distance quickly.

Elizabeth shifted to her right, watching her displays and seeing the young MechWarrior charge straight ahead. She smiled faintly as she thought of her own charge, and maneuvered expertly through the bamboo. Her Archer - despite its size and weight - was graceful, and she maneuvered with light touches and an ease brought on by years of experience.
He was closing the distance, changing direction slightly to match her own shift. As he crested a hill at the maximum range of their LRMs, he opened fire. Elizabeth casually shifted direction and speed, and his missiles went wide, flying through the forest branches like birds. She tracked back along their exhaust and as her Mech settled into position gently squeezed her triggers causing thirty of her own dangerous birds to soar across the distance before eagerly tearing into David’s armor. While nothing penetrated, he was bloodied.

David gasped as both the heat and damage indicators spiked within his console. He reeled, and slammed his controls down and over, shoving himself into thicker cover while also trying to pivot for a new lock. He had a perfect site line and she had just casually side stepped him. He hammered his controls while fighting the mech’s inertia and the laws of physics. She was already on the move and he was having a hard time tracking her. Another wave of missiles came at him and more armor popped. Again he fired, this time more desperately, and managed to slightly clip her legs. He howled for now he was not alone in taking damage.

Elizabeth twisted to the left and slowed to a walk. Her opponent had managed to cause some light damage to her legs, but she had avoided the worst of it. His aim was improving but she had scored multiple groupings across his torso and arms, significantly weakening his armor.
She watched as he tried to charge straight at her again, and she correctly anticipated his path - more missiles shot out at much closer range. This time his speed partly saved him for less missiles hit but he still took some damage. He opened up with his large lasers and missiles, spiking his heat to a dangerously high level - and only scoring a single hit against her. She sped up again as he slowed down to a crawl, the heat level quickly overloading his machine.

David gasped for air, his throat screaming in agony at the super heated gas he was desperately trying to breathe filled his lungs. He slammed the override button, as every system screamed in protest at him. Finally switching focus to his scans he realized that the Abbess was gone - where she was what felt like a second ago she was gone now. Alarms blaring in his ears he struggled to reorient himself and try to figure out where she was. He gasped as a laser slammed into his arm, boiling away the last of the armor there. He tried to turn but the Archer was ignoring his need for speed, and responded only sluggishly. He screamed and pounded the controls, desperately trying to get any weapon system pointed towards his opponent. Getting one arm up he fired desperately, the shot going well wide of his target. Another laser flashed and cut into his torso - boiling away the armor and in a flash his autoeject system had triggered, launching him brutally into the sky as the LRM ammo cooked off and destroyed the Archer.

MechWarrior David jerked awake with a gasp, sitting upright he looked around wildly for a second before he realized where he was. “I…” he paused. “I lost.” He whispered quietly.
“Yes, you did.” The voice was that of the Abbess. She was sitting next to him. He looked at her realizing what his honor required.
“What happened?”
Elizabeth nodded, “You were aggressive and forward in the finest tradition of Clan Wolf. You fought hard and you lost. Star Captain Maria accepted the outcome of the Trial and has returned to the Empire. You remain as the newest Monk of the Sanctuary.” He nodded, it was what honor required.
“How did I lose?” He couldn’t understand how he couldn’t get a lock, couldn’t find her.
“As I said you fought hard - but you didn’t just fight me. You fought your BattleMech. You fought yourself. The more you fought the more you resisted yourself, the more your BattleMech resisted you. Warfare and battle is not about challenge and aggressiveness. I didn’t fight you. I let you fight yourself.”
He digested that for a few minutes. Elizabeth just sat silently. “What happens now?”
Elizabeth smiled and reached over. “You came to us raw, here you shall train and become a true warrior.” She paused and looked around. “Your timing was fortunate, I am dying. And while I might have a few years left in me with treatment, we were preparing to find a replacement for me when you came to us. You will now learn how to lead and protect these people and the responsibilities you are entrusted with. You shall become a wolf among the lilacs, guarding this world and protecting it.”
He nodded. “What must I do?” He asked.
She pointed to a wooden bucket, “First you will get water, then you shall chop wood. We shall make tea.” He nodded, and got out of bed. He picked up the cream robe over the chair and put it on, grabbing the bucket he went out to the yard and filled it. The fire that was consuming him was out, and he was ready to begin his life.

Hollywood does not exist without the eyes of the consumer which is clearly not considered in this show.
Lily Rose Depp is beautiful, talented but completely one-dimensional. The caracter Jocelyn lacks authenticity and the insecurity that makes singers into stars. If you look at the pop-star archetype of Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Brittany Spears their public image has been crafted as an unnatianble best friend. The dedicated fan-base is what keeps these women on top, they are used as an inspiration for young women and as a male fantasy. Levinsons script completely loses the aspect of the female gaze and the unrealistic expectations that women adhere to eg: not showing nipples and living a completely secluded private life with a carefully engineered image.
A better representation of a woman with pop-star quality would havr been blackpinks Jennie Kim who steals the show with her supportive likeable character. The supporting actors Dan Levy, Troyer Sevan and Rachel Sennot hit the mark acting as agents and handlers but I realistically can't see anyone of that caliber investing in such a dull character.
Jocelyn is introduced to Abel Tessfayes character Tedros at a nightclub in LA. Tessafaye plays as a familiar cringy DJ as a chatacter he loses what makes the Weekend attractive; wearing a shitty toupe and the same 70s rapist glasses that are a glaring red flag to any discernable woman. There is nothing seductive or interesting about the set and music choices. It also seems very unlikely that a pop star of Jocelyns caliber would be in the center of the dancefloor instead of unattainably hidden in VIP.
Here's where the plot is lost: Tedros on the first time meeting Jocelyn demands her attention and zeroes in on her in a public place. This is not typical behavior of a predator, which is what all cult leaders are, they use the people around them as tools for defense and control. Predators follow the cycle of lovebombing, honeymoon, abuse, apology. Abuse among highly intelligent people generally starts by building intimacy and trust, not a cheesy dance sequence in the middle of a club. I am not surprised to read that the sex scene in the first episode went straight to auto-erotic choking - because why in a time of Miley Cyrus having to get vocal surgery after hard partying would a new age popstar not consider her throat an extremely valuable asset?
After watching Lily Rose Depp masturbate as she choked herself, I turned off the show. Would a mentally ill pop star not resort to opiates? Abusing her prescriptions? Magically refreshing a newsfeed to learn what the public is saying about her? Mentally breakdowns are not two single tears shed underneath black sunglasses - they are complicated and terrifying for everyone involved. I imagine rebuilding an image with millions invested would have kept any pop-star on an anxiety inducing tight rope surrounded by multiple handlers and security.
When a general audience thinks of Hollywood Predators we think of Harvey Weinsteins, Jaimie Spears and the unknown suited men that hide in the shadows waiting for women to trade "goods" for "services". We think of shitty pop-star boyfriends like Justin Timberlake and Justin Beiber that use confidentiality agreements and media stories to control a narrative. High performing women do not fuck lame DJ's that play vintage Madonna.
The Idol would have been a captivating and popular show in the 90s but in 2023 we are not getting anything more than a gratuitous shallow commentary that reads like a badly written porn. Frankly if that's what viewers are coming for, there are more authentic actresses performing the actual acts online - without having to see Abel Tessfayes awful wig.

Hi all. So I’ve been thinking about this for ages. I always had that weird gut feeling that I was abused as a child (other than the emotional abuse and neglect that happened later). I thought maybe by my dad, my grandpa, or my uncle, but they didn’t really have an opportunity. Lately, I have been thinking about my mom, and that she had shown some weird behaviors that had always bugged me but I didn’t really knew why. Help me fact-check that gut feeling please?
It started when I witnessed how she would look at a family member’s baby. She had that super weird look in her eyes, that made me instantly wary and protective of the baby. It might just have been envy but it was super scary. Like, hungry, desperate or something. I have never seen that emotion on her before.
Then I thought about how she would always come into the bathroom when I took a bath or a shower, and how she got super angry and didn’t want to allow me to lock the door when I got older. Same thing happened when my younger sister started to lock the bathroom door.
She also was so angry and sad when I became a teen and I started to shy away from her touches (nothing out of the ordinary, I think, I only remember hugs and touches on the hip and head maybe? idk). She would tell me how she hated that I grew up so fast and begged me to let her touch me and do it 'for her'.
Up until my teens, I would come into her bed for cuddle time in the mornings before school. What’s weird is that I think I stripped naked before crawling under her covers? I mostly remember just laying there a bit stiffly, I don’t think she touched me. She might have masturbated though? Again, this is blurry and my mind may be making up things. My dad might have asked me once if I was okay with that as I maybe was a bit too old to cuddle with my mom?

When I started to shave down there and she noticed, she would tell me how that was disgusting and looked like a child. She does this to this day.
I also have this part of my mind where if I try to think back into my past, I end up with a picture in my mind of me (or possibly my sister) laying on a changing table. There’s nothing wrong with that but that image makes me feel really vulnerable idk.
She was always very involved with school events and works with children to this day.
When I got older, I was forced into the role of being idk her psychologist or partner rather than her daughter. She would also degrade me all the time.
So I don’t know if I’m imagining things, but I have the impression my mom might be a hidden pedophile?
I don’t think any actual abuse happened like penetration or something, but it all feels… odd.
That look in her eyes when she saw that baby really didn’t resonate well with me.
I was definitely depressed as a child and would daydream of getting abducted to get away from my life. I just don’t know why, because my parents didn’t fight yet I think? But I was miserable.

Edit I have that weird feeling that she might have done worse before I was 3. And then after my sister, she wanted to have another baby. She taught me from a young age that people can’t form memories before that age. Literally one of the first memories I have is being told that no one can remember what happened earlier. When I was a child, she would repeatedly ask me what my first memory was. Like she wanted to make sure I didn’t remember… something. It didn’t feel that way then, but retrospectively… I don’t know if I’ve finally turned delusional.

Episode 05: Backstabbers Ahoy
"Last time, on Total Drama Revenge of the Island!" Chris opened, the standard shot of the island quickly cutting to a clip of the campers hurriedly assembling in the common area between cabins as the recap montage began. "Twelve campers went on a scavenger hunt," a close-up of the screen that showed the scavenger hunt locations was next, "that was spoo~ky~!" he said in an appropriate tone, several scary eyes opening up in the hollow of a tree. "And very, very, painful," he added with a laugh as Leshawna was shown getting choked by the squid-tree while some of her teammates threw rocks at both her and the tentacle, and Geoff ran right into a minefield and got blown up.
"And when we thought it couldn't get any weirder," the host continued over a shot of Dave being wrapped up by the spider, "Arachna-Izzy showed up to do an eight-legged tap dance for a captive audience and her buddy Chef," the wild child's reveal was shown as was her shooting plungers at Chef. "Which turned out to be not so fun for her," Dave was shown pounding on the spider's abdomen.
"In the end, Katie left five teammates behind," the sweet girl was shown getting on the zipline, "and lost the challenge for her team," The Maggots were at the elimination ceremony. "Someone would've been eliminated, but I decided to be swell and call it a non-elimination just to keep tensions running," Chris laughed a bit. "And I also brought Sierra back into the game for fun," Sierra coming in unannounced was shown.
"Hey, it's my show. I can do what I want," the host said as the montage ended to show him standing on the Dock of Shame. "Who will ride the Hurl of Shame next? How many times can I laugh at them, before then? Find out right now, on Total! Drama! Revenge of the Island!"

A shot of the morning sun opened the episode, a flock of geese flying across the sky in formation in the distance. The scene cut to the girls of the Maggot cabin, the camera angled to show Katie and Scarlett awake.
The shot cut in close to Scarlett as she was deep in thought. "It's pretty fortunate for us to not lose a teammate last episode." Scarlett started her conversation with Katie.
Katie, who was brushing her hair, stopped when she was finished. "I know. Even though we lost, we still won in a way."
"But something still questions me about last time," Scarlett continued.
"What is it?" Katie wondered.
"I'm curious who would've gotten voted out since Chris didn't reveal the votes at all during our elimination ceremony," Scarlett explained.
Katie got uneasy hearing that. "Oh, I'm curious as well." She let out an awkward chuckle.
Scarlett easily saw how nervous her bunkmate was acting, and decided to press on. "You're not looking very comfortable. Care to explain what is bothering you?"
"The thing is, I voted for-" Katie tried to say, but was interrupted by Molly opening the cabin door.
"Good morning everyone," Molly greeted the two girls.
"Oh, Molly's here," Katie changed the subject. "Hi."

"I suppose it's because of how I came off not showing my sympathies for my endangered teammates or for being too intellectual for them." She smiled proudly. "It would've been their loss had they gotten rid of me for I am the more academically skilled member of the bunch."

"Guess what I found at the bonfire?" Molly eagerly said.
"What could you have found that would be beneficial for us?" Scarlett skeptically asked.
"I found this old mp3 player by one of the stumps," Molly pulled out the object. "I don't know how it got there, but I'm keeping it."
"If it's so old, why are you gonna keep it?" Katie asked her.
"It plays all the indie music from my favorite bands," Molly answered. "Modest Mouse, Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, those types of people."
"I've never heard of them," Katie said. "Sorry."
"Well you're missing out," Molly shrugged before leaving.
Scarlett and Katie watched her leave for a few seconds before Scarlett turned to Katie. "If I'm being honest, I'm not a fan of indie-themed activities."

A pleasant tune played as the scene moved to a shot of the lake, a few red birds flying and tweeting past the camera. The perspective inverted to show Anne Maria sitting in one of the stump seats of the bonfire pit, filing her nails as a woodpecker stood on top of her poking at her hair.
"Hey, I wasn't expecting to see you up here so early," Geoff said, walking up from the right and immediately attracting Anne Maria's attention. He was in his swimsuit rather than his usual attire.
"I didn't have much of a choice," Anne Maria said. "Katie's snorin' is drivin' me nuts, and Scarlett is kooky with her sleep analysis or whatever."
"So you're doing your hair care out here?" Geoff wondered.
"Yup," Anne Maria replied. "Why are you out in your swim shorts?"
"The water was feeling pretty cool and refreshing, and I wanted to salvage the moment as quickly as I could," Geoff answered.
"I would've been in the ocean, but I have to be fully tanned before I can go into any form of liquid," Anne Maria continued.
"Your body is tanned?" Geoff widened. "Do you use orange paint?"
This comment quickly offended the hairspray girl. "Excuse me?! Did you just disrespect my tan?!" Anne Maria glared at the party boy.
Geoff instantly realized his mistake. "No no no. I'm just saying that I like your tan. It's pretty cool."
Anne Maria cooled down. "Oh right. Now I get it."
Confessional: Geoff
"If you didn't know, I tend to slip up when talking to chicks," Geoff opened up. "Anne Maria's a babe, and a super hot one, but I have to watch what I say if I don't want to get messed up."

The scene flashed to the girls' side of the Rat cabin, where Sammy was sleeping in her bed peacefully, until she got woken up by Sierra snapping a photo of her.
"Sierra! I'm trying to sleep!" Sammy shouted in anger, causing Sierra to be frightened.
"Sorry Sammy. I was just updating the sleeping section of this season's profile!" Sierra said happily.
"Sleeping section?" Leshawna said in bewilderment. "Who would want to see us sleep?"
"I don't even want to know," Sammy mumbled.
Confessional: Sierra
"Apparently, the viewers love to see the contestants in their pajamas," Sierra said. "They probably want to make fanart of them."
Confessional: Sammy
"Was I being mean back there? Sorry," Sammy sheepishly said. "I usually get cranky if I don't get my full hours of sleep, and with Sierra back, it's going to get worse."

Over on the boys' side of the Rat cabin, Trent was putting on his shirt in order to get dressed fully. "Getting dressed is done. Now to play some music to get my day off on the right foot."
The cool guy got on his knees and stuck his hand under his bunk bed to find his guitar, and his face became more and more worried as he couldn't find his instrument.
"I swear I put my guitar under here!" Trent said to himself while peeking under his bunk.
Scott entered the cabin and saw Trent's predicament. "What seems to be tugging on your strings, guitar boy?" he asked.
"Someone stole my guitar," Trent responded. "I remember placing it under my bunk bed, but now there's no sight of it."
"Ultra fangirl returns, guitar goes AWOL. Do the math, and come eat breakfast before you starve of paranoia," Scott told Trent.

"Scott's on the rough side, but he does have a point about me not needing to overreact about my guitar being taken," Trent stated. "Someone probably just took it as a practical joke, and I'm sure they'll return it back to me."

A loon called as the scene moved to the Mess Hall, cutting inside to the Mutant Maggots, who were seated at the forward table this time around, while the Toxic Rats had been forced to claim the table closer to the kitchen. All of them were eating what appeared to be trays of mostly meat – bacon and roast chicken and some kind of intestines, with a bit of mashed potatoes and an apple on the side.
DJ was in line with his tray out. After it got filled with breakfast, he smiled a bit. "This is looking pretty good," he said to Chef, to which the cook actually smiled in appreciation.
Dave walked up to DJ with his own tray. "This is too much protein," he complained out of Chef's view to DJ.
"I know," DJ told his friend. "I'm gonna see if I can use this to make a gift for Katie."
"Why do you wanna do that?" Dave asked him. "Are you into her?"
DJ looked at Katie making a house out of her food. "Look at her. She's creative, sweet, and totally full of life."
"I didn't know you were interested in her," Dave said.
"I didn't realize my feelings for her until later on," DJ told him before walking to the right. "I'm gonna go see if there's any more leftovers for my gift."
"Attention campers!" Chris announced through the loudspeaker. "Breakfast is cutting in to precious time that you could spend getting injured!" The shot cut to the loudspeaker outside as Chris laughed. "Grab your swimsuits and meet me at the dock, pronto!"
The campers, who'd already gathered in the middle of the lodge aside from Dave and DJ, began to groan and complain. "You have ten seconds to exit the Mess Hall," Chris added, "before I release...The Raccoon!"
"The raccoon?" Anne Maria repeated in disbelief, and the ten teens started to laugh as the camera pulled back and a large crate was lowered down from the ceiling on chains. It stopped just before it hit the floor, and the campers immediately looked at it with dread.
The front face of it was punched off, revealing the giant mutant raccoon inside. It roared, and with a shriek the two teams fled the building.
The camera cut to the entrance to the kitchen, where DJ was wheeling in a service cart full of the morning meal and whistling to himself. "Hey," he asked, apparently not hearing the warning. "Where y'all goin'? Oh well," he shrugged. "I'm gonna see what I can take from this cart!"
He put the meat into his shorts, unaware of the menacing shadow creeping toward him.

The scene cut outside to the campers catching their breaths, Chris watching them nearby with an impish smile.
"What were you thinking?" Scarlett asked him. "We could've been viciously assassinated by that intoxicated raccoon!"
Chris just laughed. "Nah, only if you got between him and food." He sent a pensive look off-screen and said "Team Maggot, looks like you're still missing a player."
The camera cut to the main lodge, where DJ was tossed out of a window with a scream.
"Nevermind," Chris said jovially.

The footage flashed ahead to the two teams assembled on the Dock of Shame in their swimsuits – On the left: DJ in his usual shorts, Katie in a white and black striped bikini, Scarlett in a black one-piece, Molly in a purple dotted two-piece, Anne Maria in a bikini with the same color scheme as her top, and Dave in a white tank top and a pair of trunks consisting of his normal attire's colors; On the right: Leshawna in a teal speedo, Scott in his red swim trunks, Sierra in a light and lime green bikini, Trent in his orange and brown swim trunks, Sammy in a white bikini, and Geoff in his normal shorts; Chris was in the middle. Each team also had an old-fashioned diving suit connected by hose to a hand pump lying between them and the host.
"Alright," Chris began, "here to help us get today's competition underway, say hello to one of our classic competitors, Brick!"
He motioned to the side and the camera zoomed out as the cadet arrived at the dock in a patched-up red canoe.
"I'm ready to go," Brick told the host, "but remember," he gave a reminder, "my contract said demonstration only."
"Relax," Chris smiled, "no demo needed! Just chum the water and try not to get eaten."
Brick reached into the canoe and picked up a bucket of green slop. He took one whiff of it and retched. "What is this stuff?" he asked in disgust.
"Leftovers," Chris grinned, "from last season."
"This almost smells as nasty as my boots," Brick shuddered.
It was then that Fang rose out of the water and chomped down on the end of the boat, devouring the bit of chum that had been spilled on it and forcing Brick to yelp and dart over to the back of the canoe.
"This is highly not acceptable!" Brick scolded him.
"Challenge, part one!" Chris moved on. "Each team must get a pair of water-skis in an underwater mission." The shot cut underwater as he spoke, showing two sets of water skis tied to a pair of rocks on the lake bed. A school of vicious, spiny fish swam past from the right to the left, and a second later a school of eels passed through from the opposite direction. "Or drown trying," the host added as the camera zoomed in on the skis.
"One victim-I mean camper," Chris continued with a sly look, "will snag the skis in an old-school diving suit," he held up the Rats' suit, "and float them to the surface while the rest of their team pumps them oxygen," he held up the Maggots' pump. "First team to surface their skis wins, and gets an advantage in part two."

The focus moved to the Maggots, Molly standing before her teammates and holding the diving suit's helmet. "Listen up Maggots. I'm diving."
"No problem with me," DJ agreed. "I'm not good with water, so I'll pump the air."
"Just consider it my way of making it up to you for the ice challenge," Molly said before feeling her pockets, only to realize something. "Who took my mp3 player?"

"When I was eight, my brothers dared me to jump off the high-dive platform at the pool. I jumped, but I landed on my butt, and my trunks went so far up my butt, I had to go to the hospital and get them removed. They invited a new word for what I did. The wedgie flop. I've been afraid of water ever since," DJ explained his fear of water.

The focus moved to the Rats, Geoff at the center of their attention. "So who's gonna pump and who's gonna dive?"
"I got captured first last episode, so I'll pump the air just to show that I'm not useless," Sammy went to the hose.
"Sierra, you just came back, so you can dive in order to prove yourself to us," Scott suggested.
"Of course I'll dive," Sierra said. "I'm a certified swimmer."

"That was much easier than I thought it'd be," Scott quipped.

"Ready?" Chris asked, now standing between Molly and Sierra, the two now fully dressed in their diving suits. Molly smirked confidently at her opponent, with Sierra doing the same, and with a sharp "GO!" from the host, the two were off.
The shot immediately cut underwater as the two splashed down and sank to the lake bed. The perspective moved behind them as they looked ahead to the tied-up skis in the distance, and after sharing a brief glance the two raced off...rather slowly through the water, thanks to the heavy suits and water pressure. The camera focused on Sierra as she suddenly stopped as though her hose had been caught on something.
She looked back and the camera panned to follow, revealing Fang holding back the uberfan's hose with a single hand. He grinned toothily, and Sierra screamed.
The scene moved back above the water, focusing on the Rats. Sammy was currently pumping with Leshawna and Scott watching her, and Geoff and Trent were leaning off the edge of the dock to watch Sierra's progress.
"Tired already, Pom-pom?" Scott asked the cheerleading girl as her breathing became heavier.
Leshawna took Sammy off the pump. "It's okay," the sista said. "I can do it for you!" She pumped so furiously that the hose started bulging as air pockets moved down it.
The scene cut back to Fang swimming viciously at Sierra; the girl turned around and screamed just as the bulging air pocket moved through the hose towards her...blowing up her suit like a balloon, causing Fang to ram into her and bounce off.
"You better get those skis, girl!" Anne Maria shouted near Scarlett as the camera cut back above the water.
"Yeah, keep up the pace," Dave added halfheartedly while kneeling on the dock.
The camera panned away from them and on to Katie and DJ, the latter operating the pump while the former talked to him...absentmindedly standing on the hose while doing so.
"Nice muscles you got on," Katie told DJ sincerely.
"Can I ask you something?" DJ said.
"Sure," Katie replied, looking up at her teammate. "What do you want to ask me?"
"What's your favorite kind of food?" DJ asked Katie. "Mine is gumbo, especially when made by my Momma."
"I like bacon. You can put it on any food you want, and they've been useful for my vlogs," Katie said.
"Bacon wouldn't go great with gumbo if you're thinking about that," DJ joked with the sweet girl.
"I know that. I'm not off the wall," Katie laughed at his sentence. As she spoke, the camera focused down on the slowly-growing bulge in the hose, trapped from moving onward by Katie's weight.

"DJ is such an attractive guy," Katie swooned. "Is this what having a real life crush is like?"

The shot cut back underwater, Molly eagerly approaching the water skis...until she suddenly gasped, stopped, and held her breath with a look of shock. She frantically started tugging on her hose, and the scene returned to the edge of the dock as the other end of the hose began to yank and twang.
Scarlett quickly noticed it, and moved her wide gaze up the hose to Katie's feet. "What are you doing standing on the hose?" she asked sternly while pulling Katie off. "You're blocking the air." The air pocket finally rushed down to the hose.
Back underwater Molly's face had started to lose a bit of color as she kept on tugging at the hose. The air bubble finally reached her, and she let out a sigh of relief.
Back up shore, Katie started to feel really guilty. "I'm so sorry about that. I didn't know."
Confessional: Katie
"I almost killed Molly," Katie said in regret. "She's annoying sometimes, but that doesn't warrant murder."

The static cut away to the Rats, Leshawna continuing to pump air at a fast pace.
"This is taking forever!" Scott complained while holding his wood. "I gotta whittle something." He put his hand on his pocket. "Wait, where's my lucky shark tooth? Sierra must've stole it!" Scott thought out loud. "Like she stole Music Note's guitar and Indie Lady's mp3."
Anne Maria heard the commotion and came over. "Sierra couldn't steal a TV in a riot," she explained.
"Think about it. That girl's been obsessed with getting information about the show, even us," Scott replied.
Anne Maria proceeded to pat herself down. "As if, there's no proof that-" she retorted until something caught her attention. "Hey. Where's my hairbrush?" The jersey shore reject grew angry. "Oh, that is it! Sierra's getting a beat down!"
The scene flashed back underwater where Fang had gotten a hold of Sierra's air hose and was using her as a punching bag. The hose snapped from the unintended stress and the obsessive girl was sent flying through the water.
Sierra got to the Rats' skis first. Her diving suit knocked Molly down and smacked into the rock holding the skis, the force was enough to dislodge them; seconds later the two skis floated up to the surface.
A ship's horn was blown, and Chris called out "The Rats win the first challenge!" over the shot of Sierra flying out of the water between the skis with a scream.

"The Rats are the first to grab water skis," Chris announced over a shot of everyone assembled on the dock, "and their reward?" he said as a light-skinned female intern with a black ponytail drove a speedboat up to the Rats' side of the dock. "A McLean Brand Speedboat to use in part two of the challenge."
"Cool!" Trent cheered in excitement.
"Yeah baby!" Leshawna chimed in, the rest of their teammates smiling.
"And for the Maggots," Chris turned to the losers, a spluttering engine attracting their attention to the lake as well as the southeast Asian male intern drove up an inflatable boat to the left side of the dock. "A totally leaky dinghy!"
The six Maggots groaned and hung their heads in disappointment.
"This is almost too easy," Scott chuckled to himself before he saw Sierra catch up to the Rats with her diving suit torn up.
"Did we win the advantage?" Sierra told the farm boy.
"We sure did…stealer!" Scott muttered the last part under his breath.
"Part two of the challenge," Chris continued, briefly holding up two fingers as he continued his exposition, "a death-defying water ski race! The goal? Be the first to ring four bells on these four totally harmless buoys."
As he spoke, the shot cut first to one of the bells, then zoomed out to show it – and the others floating nearby – were attached to the top of what were very obviously sea mines. Brick arrived just then, the cadet frantically paddling his canoe up to one of the mines. He bumped into it just as Chris proclaimed its harmlessness, and the cameo and canoe were blown away by the resulting explosion.
Chris laughed. "Make that three bells," he corrected as a screaming Brick landed on the dock beside him. "See?" he told the slightly-charred young man. "You totally got to demo the challenge." The host then looked at the camera. "Who will cry for their mommy? And who's cries will be drowned out by explosions?" he asked with a wide smile. "Find out when we return." He looked down at Brick, who coughed out a little more soot.

So,I finally sorted out everything and also completed proof reading and editing of the 2nd chapter of DOHA.It would be out within the next 24 hours and also,I finalized everything for my 2nd fic including the outlines and oh boy,I am finally ready to make an izuocha fic.
Here is the summary:-
Izuku Midoriya(Quirkless),14-year old,his girlfriend,Ochako Uraraka(Zero Gravity) and his sister,Izumi(FIre Breath),had gone camping with Izuku and Izumi's father,Hisashi Midoriya AKA Dragon,the flame breathing hero.
Things took an unexpected turn when a meteor crashed near their camp site.When they went to inspect the place,suddenly a weird looking watch with a green hourglass symbol latched onto Izuku's arm and this was the beginning story of the Symbol of Hope:-Omni.
So,sorry if some of ya cringed a bit but I like to make my main ships canon from the beginning in my stories.While that is not the case in DOHA,it is the case here.Also,how Izuocha became official and everything pre story will be explained in the first few chapters.

[6th of August, 2216] - [Robert Keolan, Human Civilian]
“Multiple reports from the front indicate that various groups have splintered from the United Nations of Orion….”

“UNO Command reports a rapid collapse of all fronts, both enemy and not, following the rebellion of the Idraxi Republic and various separatists from both sides…”

“This just in, two separatist groups have initiated official contact with the United Nations of Orion: The Coalition of Man, and the Free Systems…”

I shut off the TV, trying to ignore the rapid collapse of what I had once called my home. What the hell happened?
[26th of November, 2218] - [Robert Keolan, UNO Representative]
”The United Nations of Orion and the Serdanisk Republic have officially signed a peace deal after fourteen years. Today, at 1648 Standard Earth Time, the inauguration of a monument on Idraxis Prime, now inside the neutral territory of the Free Systems, will take place.” “Attending will be the nephew of the Theseus' Captain who initiated first contact with the Sky Breakers Republic: Robert Keolan…”

Shutting off the TV and ignoring the Déjà-Vu, I fix up my tie and head outside the make-shift hotel the blue helmets set up. Centuries of technological advancement and they’re still blue. Oh well.
Waiting for me was an armed convoy, composed of an armored transport and four vehicles with machine guns on top. I’m pretty sure one of those guns was shot in the Second World War… Is that an M2?
As I’m escorted to the convoy, I can’t help but notice the Serdanisk going around the installation. A very recognizable species, due to their snake-like appearance, lack of legs, and their second pair of vestigial arms used for body language.
The Serdanisk overthrew their leaders after the collapse of the Idraxi Front, and after a non-negligible chunk of their armed forces defected to the newly formed Free Systems. Alongside the Free Systems, however… The Coalition of Man embodied every horrible aspect about humanity.
Xenophobic to a fault, any aliens found in their newly-formed state were captured and either deported or killed. Then came their genetic experiments… They hate aliens, yet are barely human themselves…
Shaking away the rather depressing thoughts, I began to hype myself up for the inauguration. Representatives from the Free Systems and the Kingdom of Sahlari would be present, alongside Humans and Cornacchiaris from the UNO.
After an hour or two of exhilarating travel where nothing happened, we arrived at the plaza in which the inauguration would take place. The monument, still covered, stood tall in the middle of the plaza, as reporters and representatives from both sides stood nearby.
As I walked up to the stage, I could hear the Serdanisk representative complaining about something. “...scammed by a currency exchange! Apparently there is no such thing as a ‘zero commission’ exchange on this planet!” “Robert, please fucking save me…”
The Cornacchiaris representative begged, and so I obliged. “What’s going on?” “One of her crew members was scammed by a false currency exchange, and now she’s about ready to blow a fuse.” “Ah… ma’am, excuse me?” “What is it, Human? Do you allow these predatory practices on other worlds as well?” “No we do not. This world isn't under UNO jurisdiction, ma’am.”
The Serdanisks eyes narrowed at me. “Consider yourself lucky human, were you one of my own you would be missing some scales because of your tone.” “My apologies, ma’am.”
The Cornacchiaris representative looked like he was about to lay an egg. “Robert, are you insane? You know how you have to act around them!” “I do. Still worked, though.” “I can’t argue with that, but be careful next time, alright?” “Aye aye.”
A minute or so after we all got into place, the musicians began to play.The first was the Hymn of the Sahlari, a religious song which was then adopted as their official anthem. The second was the unofficial anthem of the Free Systems, a song with different parts, each in a different language of the member species. And lastly, came the anthem of the UNO, composed of two dead languages, Latin and Areati, symbolizing the efforts of our ancestors.
After the songs had finished, I could finally hear my thoughts again. Why does every anthem have to be so obnoxiously loud?
The representative from the Free Systems, a fellow human, walked to the front of the stage. “Friends, we may live under different flags, but today we are united in peace! After a very arduous process, both sides of this conflict chose peace over war, thanks to the actions of the representatives here today.”
Cheers and applause rose from the crowd, as the reporters took pictures of the representative. “In celebration of this great day, the students of the Idraxis Prime Arts Academy have created a marvelous piece, to make sure we do not forget those we have lost.”
The monument was revealed, and I silently analyzed it.Three species, one Human, one Cornacchiaris and one Serdanisk, place a sword into a rock, with it being locked in place by vines from the three cradles, as a flower from Idraxi bloomed on the pommel. Inscribed along the blade are the four flags of all those who participated in the conflict, excluding the Coalition.
The Serdanisk was a shade of a blue, resembling one of their more common scale colors, the Human wore a soldiers uniform and the Cornacchiaris appeared to be a member of the Onyx Caste. Overall, not a bad monument.
“I welcome you all, to a new age of pro-" A single, distant gunshot is heard, and time stops. The representative didn’t even have time to duck, his head just… disappeared.
I launched myself onto the Serdanisk and Cornacchiaris representatives, getting them down to the ground, and crawling behind the monument. My head was empty, the only thought was survival.
I could hear the security forces firing against an unseen target, as bullets kept hitting the ground next to us. One of them got hit, and his weapon fell to the ground as his arm began to bleed.
The Serdanisk representative launched herself forward, picked up the gun, and began firing back. “Are you insane?! You’ll make yourself a target!” “I already am, Human! You should be doing the same.”
Fucking hell, warrior culture my ass, these guys just want to die! I crawled to the downed soldier and dragged him back into cover, some shrapnel hit me in the chest, but I couldn’t stop.I had to keep going. “Where’s your medkit!?” The wounded soldier pointed at a pouch on his side, and I got to work instantly.
Cut clothes, tourniquet, clean the wound, stem the bleeding, wrap bandages around.
“Robert, who taught you that?” “Grandpa’s favorite pass-time was telling me stories passed down by his father from the fusion wars, and in-between them he would just teach me how to treat an injury, the dos and don’ts. Also, I know what you’re doing.” “What am I doing?” “Trying to distract us from this situation.” “That obvious?” “Yeah…”
After that conversation, time started speeding up again, as the situation stagnated. After about 15 minutes of the Serdanisk representative shooting, the Cornacchiaris trying to distract himself from the situation, and me helping stabilize some soldiers, the shooting started to die down.
Air support arrived, and began firing onto the enemy positions. The design was.. odd. It was the same frame of a pre-fusion war MI-8, with some of its useless parts ripped out and replaced with more advanced technology from the Cornacchiaris. It’s as if it popped out straight from the Cold War. On the front, instead of the lower cockpit windows, was an automated recon pod that tagged enemy positions, while an automatic cannon shot them from the bottom of the… helicopter? It didn’t have any rotors, instead opting for a thruster system composed of four pods, two on the front and two on the back, with a secondary pod on the tail.
On its side, it had two flags: that of the Free Systems and Idraxi. That… explains it.
After air support came in, the battle ended pretty quickly.The casualty count kept going up, since the attackers fired on both civilian and military targets. Then I found one of the bodies.
“It’s the Coalition…” “What do you mean, Human?” “Why here? Why now? Are they that stubborn?” “Calm yourself, Human! What are you talking about?” “Look!”
The Serdanisk reluctantly turned and looked at the corpse. “Oh. I see…” “Do you now?” “Humanity has splintered itself, no? So have we, and now we have a common enemy.” “Well… fuck.”
Wonder where Mr Walkens nephew went…
