I’ve always had a hard time with these things. But I’ve always had my best friend from birth to help me through it. But just recently about a couple months ago she started dating this guy. It wasn’t an issue at first until he started attacking me. I’d get messages calling me a druggy, accusing me of pressuring her into things, telling me to kill myself, etc. I’d always ask her about these things, specifically the pressuring stuff, and she’d always refute it saying he’s lying. But after some new insight I’ve found out that she’s probably been lying to me and telling him different things. Some other things have also caused me to not trust her anymore. She’s different now. I’m upset, because he gave her an ultimatum twice, me or him, and she’s always assured me that she’d choose me. But I watched her text him that she chooses him. But that part that really bothers me is that she let all this go on for as long as it did. A best friend wouldn’t let her boyfriend treat me like that. Wouldn’t lie to me. We had talks about it but I always felt like she either just didn’t care or it was in one ear out the other. I still don’t think she fully grasps how much and how deeply this has affected me, even though she says she does. The worst part is that I don’t even know how much of our friendship has been a lie now. I feel like I see my best friend sitting next to me but she feels so out of reach, so different. Now I have no one. 17 years of friendship, ruined by a guy. Something that we always thought would last forever. Now I have no one. I cant even think about the situation without wanting to die. I used to tell her everything, but now i cant. She doesn’t know that I want to kill myself. I feel like they’d both be happier without me. I feel just like a bother to her now.
On top of that, I have new medical issues that I keep having to get poked for, my country hates me and actively tries to take my healthcare away, I’ve been outed to everyone and get weird looks now, I fucking hate it here. I keep getting told to think about my future and college and jobs that’ll pay well when I haven’t even managed to make it through high school yet. I’ve always been the “gifted” one. Exceptionally high grades, always working. Now there’s so much expectations and pressure on me and I’m just so worn down. My grades have slipped a little and my grandma tells me that the only thing that’ll get me through life is an education so I better pick up my slack. The only thing keeping me here is that my family would blame themselves. I want to leave so bad. I don’t want to deal with this crushing weight in my chest anymore. This incident and losing my best friend was just the straw that broke the camels back. I’m trying to beat my kid to having all the vivillon. We have a bet. If she wins, I have to take her on a cruise. If I win, she has to keep her room clean for a month. I'm a hobbyist who has spent years photographing wildlife & landscapes. I'm in a position where I can put more free time and energy into some more 'formal' training and I'd like to explore portrait photography as it's always been a keen interest. I've been searching online and came across a lot of entry-level workshops or academic courses at Uvic/Camosin, but they seem more academic and aimed towards camera controls & basic exposure.
What I'm after is workshops, small group or private mentorship from a professional at more of an intermediate level. I'd love to explore posing & studio lighting as well as location and natural light.
Any local photographers out there who offer something along these lines? Would much rather learn from someone skilled & local (would be willing to drive up Nanaimo way too) than pay for one of the many hands off online courses out there.

Hello all. I've recently graduated college and the plan was to start studying for FAR this week and be ready to take it sometime in mid-July, but I was honestly completely unaware of the whole application process, NTS, etc. Having now learned how everything works, I applied for FAR and BEC and will be sending in my notarization form in 2 days.
My question is, is it a big deal if my degree is not on my transcript? Ofc right after I applied (and in turn paid) I was brushing over my state's eligibility requirements and see this as one of the bullet points: "The degree you have earned must be posted on your official transcript". I cannot check my official transcript without sending one to myself, but when I check my school's unofficial transcript I do not see my degree mentioned there. I did some research and it seems that for my school my degree will not be updated on my transcript until late June. All of my 150 credits are on my transcript as well as my grades, so I really do not see why it should be an issue but I'm a little paranoid. I did not realize how long it takes for the application to be approved and I really want to be sure that I can still meet my mid-July deadline before I start studying right now. Has anyone had anything similar happen? will my application get denied and if it does would I just have to send my transcript again once my degree is there? Thanks.

I was given two choices this weekend and to make a long story short I chose the one that would at least give me a chance to get home and make it to Mass (one option had me away all weekend and one I thought would’ve gotten me home for Sunday evening Mass). Unfortunately I do not have a car so was hoping that the person who was driving me would have me back in time, but it wasn’t possible. I am in an area im unfamiliar with so walking is difficult and I do not feel entirely safe being alone in an Uber as I am a teenage girl and it’s a hectic place. I feel so incredibly guilty even though it was out of my control. I made the decision that I thought would get me home in time, but unfortunately it didn’t. I didn’t want to miss and I certainly didn’t want to sin.

Waterfowl Dance is unintuitive to dodge, which forces you to constantly stand twenty feet away from her and do nothing while you wait for her to use it, giving you an opportunity to actual punish her attacks for a bit.
Her lifesteal has no reason to exist, the only purpose it serves is to be a big "fuck you" to hit trading or shield-based builds. Bosses that are designed to shit on one specific build are really lame.
All of her attacks deal way too much damage, though this is a consistent trend with all of Elden Ring's bosses, not just Malenia. She deals more damage in a single hit than most bosses from previous games deal in four or five.
When I beat her for the first time, there was no sense of accomplishment or achievement, just "ugh, finally". Dragon God is probably the only From Software boss that I would consider worse than Malenia.

I want to share a case of harassment, and shocking absence of customer service, at John Reed Kreuzberg, Berlin.
The original incident happened on 10th May 2023, at around 0:30. I was using the free-weights area when a man walked towards me and, completely unnecessarily, barged into me. Seemingly unaware of this, he then started using a machine right next to me in a very inappropriate and unwelcome manner: not only moaning loudly, but also doing so while looking directly at me, neither of which he did while using machines further away. Nevertheless, the fixed staring, in a very uncomfortable way, continued for some time. This man was accompanied by two other men; one of whom was dressed in a way that would be against most gym dress codes in my experience – no shirts –, while the other one almost bumped into me as well, looking like he could have been under the effects of alcohol.
After all this, I felt unsafe, and went to the reception, but there were no employees to talk to. Therefore, I told my partner what was happening by phone, and he came to meet me in the gym. We then found one member of the cleaning staff and told him what had happened. He told us that he could not do anything about it, that I should call the police directly if I wanted, and talk to the reception staff the following morning. He also said that there were no cameras in the gym, except for the entrance.
Two days later, on 12th May 2023, around 11:40am, we went to the gym to talk with the manager ("Dima", according to the reception staff), who wasn't there. We told the member of staff on duty what had happened, and he diminished the incident: he said he could do nothing about it; if I wanted to be safe, I should use the women-only area. He also said that at night this kind of guy usually goes to the gym; if I want to feel safer, I should go in the morning instead. He confirmed there are no cameras, with the absurd phrase "we can't", and dismissed any responsibility by just saying that they are "the best chain in the market". As he provided us with neither solution, suggestion, nor even sympathy, my partner and I informed him we wished to cancel our memberships right away – to which he also refused and continued to downplay the seriousness of the situation, by just suggesting we send you an email.
The excuse we were given for having zero security monitoring in your branches was an outright fabrication, given that other large gym chains such as PureGym (UK) and Fit Star (Deutschland) care about it not only with cameras, but also with a strict (and very well advertised, all over every branch) code of conduct, plus 24/7 emergency buttons for any purpose.
I can't imagine how many other members might have experienced similar situations, to no support from the business as a whole, which is indeed liable for situations like this if within its premises.
As if it was not enough, I sent multiple emails asking to cancel my membership immediately and refund the charges. I received no response from the gym even when I signed up online and canceled within the period of the right of withdrawal determined by law.

I genuinely hope no one else has to go through this situation and face John Reed’s woefully inadequate reception staff, whose responses to the incident were demeaning and victim-blaming. Many other gyms offer better service and, most importantly, more safety, and where clients are better appreciated.

I’m getting bored of hiking to be honest. I kind of want something more fast paced or exciting if that makes sense. Something like riding an ATV but I don’t have enough money for that, so is there some kind of cheaper alternative?

Starting Masters in Mathematics this year in a well-known university in Europe, I have realised that a strong skillset on problem solving is very helpful in going towards research. Reading and understanding advanced math papers is hard and important, a strong background is also something that takes lots of time, but solving problems is something that prevents a lot of students from choosing a research path in math. Speaking of that people coming from an olympiad background or specialised schools appear to have a huge advantage in university. For example in a week I can try to solve only half of the weekly exercise sheets while some of my friends here manage to go through all of them. Solution: Do lots of exercises. The problem to the solution: I don't have that much time in a week.
So how can someone improve in such case. Do you know any good books/ways in general to train problem solving skills on a graduate level? Do you have sometimes similar thoughts?

I started trusting this platform years ago because it was on a healthy growth streak. They were adding lots of features and supporting more and more financial institutions. They were on the service committed to storing and maintaining historical data for paid customers.
I accessed my premium account recently for the first time in awhile expecting to find all my manually created portfolios for investments/crypto, all of my linked accounts(banks, brokerages, rrsp, etc), and the corresponding reports and analytics data that comes from centralizing them with Hardbacon.
But guess what? It's All gone. Nothing remains. They changed their provider for API based financial institution integration without notifying anyone at some point. This is presumably the reason but they happily charged me 12.99 USD a month with absolutely nothing being tracked and gave no notice of the change. No recommendation to relink accounts. Not countdown to this taking place.
My manually created portfolios? All gone. Deleted. Disappeared. The feature doesn't even appear to exist anymore. I migrated all of my Barchart.com tracking to Hardbacon because it made sense. That was a huge mistake.
All of the manually tagged/edited transaction data from the last two years so that spend categories were accurate?
GONE.
Reaching support? Nope. The option was removed from the app. The 'help' link on their website is non-functional.
And the best part. They no longer support connecting to ANY self brokerage accounts. National Bank Discount Brokerage, Desjarding brokerage, WealthSimple, QuestTrade, HSBC, RBC, Scotia, Manulife, .. you name it.
NONE of them are supported and all previously stored account data being centrally tracked, along with investment goals, portfolios, historical metrics, etc.
Gone. No notice. No email.

So I just installed the DLC board and immediately became apparent that the laser was operating with reduced power (3 passes vs 1 on the old uno+cnc shield). Manually firing the laser @100% via the TFT screen for the controller was fine, but running a job was clearly resulting in a painful thing to watch.
Within LightBurn gcode file I can see the S value being set at 255, pwm-speak for the full 5v. $30 is set to 1000 max spindle speed, and by all accounts, that’s how it should be for the board. Given that it it was taking 3 runs to complete what was being done previously, I took a punt and manually edited the gcode file to S1000. Success!
So now it appears the board treats the value 1000 as 100% but lightburn says 255 is 100% resulting in an actual of just under one 3rd of laser output.
Any ideas what I need to change to make Lightburns 255 = DLC 1000?

Hello! TL;DR at bottom. I am currently starting my final year of undergrad for a BS in computer science with a minor in math and am preparing to apply to graduate school. It looks like my application touches on a few edge cases so I am having difficulty figuring out how competitive of an applicant I am and what kind of schools it is worth applying to. I can only ask for so many letters and pay so many application fees!
My GPA is pretty solid, it looks like I will graduate with around a 3.6 on a 4.0 from a middling state university (USA). However my transcript is a mess, between the pandemic and some personal health problems I have two semesters that look awful, all S/U grades, and a couple audits sprinkled in other semesters. It doesn't help that I went into the pandemic with a 4.0 and so when I asked my advisor if I should switch a couple A-'s and B+'s to S's to keep that they said yes. My grades in CS classes are very solid, math classes are lower but nothing below a C in a single statistics class.
As for experience I was never quite able to get my foot in the door with research, I have one Independent Study course that will end with a presentation on a particularly important topic in CS but other than that no research experience. Teaching experience, however, I have in abundance. By the time I send in my applications I should have just under three years of teaching experience as a TA, tutor, and supplemental instructor. I also have a few personal projects in CS that I think reflect my competence and ability to get stuff done on my own. I worked in IT before uni and still have a few certifications from that time.
I feel I am a decent enough writer, both my CV and statement of purpose template are competently put together and I passed them both by my university's writing center a few times. The weakest part of this is my research interests. I really do love computer science and would be happy doing research into just about anything, I will modify the statement so I can match what a university focuses on but I anticipate it will still be less specific than I would like. From my teaching experience and independent study I have close relationships with several faculty members and feel they can write very good letters of recommendation. One of them is a little on the old side but was very important (has his own Wikipedia page! :) back in the day.
I have pretty much been guaranteed acceptance and a GA position at my current university if I wanted by the graduate coordinator so the stakes are relatively low, but I desperately want to leave. I have spent my whole life in this city and the 117 degree summers are cooking out my soul. Trying to google and read through this subreddit my position seems to be anywhere from "go for a masters first don't even bother applying yet" to "you'd have a solid chance at a top school." My dream school would be something like the University of Maryland or one of the UCs (not Riverside): but don't want to under or oversell myself if I could get into something like Stanford or am wasting my time on anything above where I am now. I'm just having a hard time assessing this and would appreciate some input or advice if anyone has any.
TL;DR Computer science BS for PhD program. Little research experience, lots of teaching experience, good GPA, bad transcript, good letters, mid statement. What do I aim for??

What if somehow by some strange happenstance that humanity and the planet get a major break from the rat race of this matrix.
If you could decide to ‘opt out’ so to speak in partaking in the game even in some measure to bring some/more relief to you in your life, simply by stating and with a strong intention- “ I don’t need to take responsibility for what has been created that I don’t need to and didn’t agree to take on initially.” I return back to the creators and maintainers of this matrix all the karma that has it coming back to them, taking full responsibility for their actions/creations against me and that no harm shall ever come to me or this planet at any time as a result”. And this can be repeated if and as necessary. And can even change up the wording to make it more suitable for you but with the same intention.
What if enough people did this just as an experiment to see what happens? Possibly shift things more in our favor? Even if you think this is stupid and/or delusional that’s perfectly fine but here’s an experiment if you’re curious.

I’m going to get a 36 yard zero (shooting at 25 yard range , using 25 / 36 target) for my 14.5 BCM upper / Aero lower Build this coming weekend.
I’ll be shooting 55 grain ammo , RDS is an Aimpoint T2 sitting on Scalaworks 1.42 mount (co-witness with my BUIS). My BUIS is Magpul MBUS. I’ll zero my RDS first and BUIS second.
Normally, I laser bore sight my upper at home , ( about 15yards ) to get my windage zeroed. I’ll then go to the range to zero my elevation ( this work bunch of times for my other rifles, all I gotta do this bring the elevation up or down )
My question is , if I’m using the 25 yard / 36 yard zero target (paper) , while using aiming at the center / bullseye , laser bore sight pointing at the POI , at 15 yards…If I shoot it at 25 yards, Would my POI be low or high ?
I know I still gotta verify this at the range …I zeroed couple of my rifle before, if I remember correctly, my POI were low and I remembered I brought the elevation up..
