My take:
I think that overt protectiomism of an industry hurts more in the long term.

Harley davidson, for example, was overly protected by the US government and that made them not evolve with the global market, now Harley Davidson motorcicles are inferior in specs, sales, and popularity to the Japanese brands suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha.

In Mexico national industries were protected by the government which meant they didn't get competitive and were destroyed by globalization when they had to do one-on-one against better products from foreign countries who did step up to the challenge

Hey yall, I am 34 years old and have been in mostly blue collar work since high school. I started out back then as a mechanic for a dodge dealership and ended up switching over to Harley Davidson. After some time at Harley I wound up being hired at a DOE national laboratory as an entry level technician. I have been there 14 years now and have moved into a supervisor role. I currently supervise 6 technicians and handle many other things. I am very interested in switching to remote work because I want to have more of a home/work life balance and have more time with my kids while they are young. Does anyone have experience or knowledge into any remote type jobs for someone like me? I understand most remote jobs are white collacollege just figured it was worth asking. Thank you!
