2023.06.04 18:59 ChaseTheMystic Did what happened to Spider-Man in the 60s comics in 616, happen to the Spider-Man 616 from the 80s and 2000s to?

I'm trying to start from the veeeeery beginning and want to understand the timeline(s).
My understanding is the Peter in Amazing Fantasy #15 is the same one who's MJ is currently with Paul.
I know starting from comic #1 can be done as a financial reason. How many times has it ever actually been rebooted?
Also, side question. Is Superior Spider-Man from 616?

Had not seen this for a long time but I stumbled on it the other day only to be instantly reminded that I had this poster in my room back in the day. Honestly did not even know much about the artist then but it hung in my room for years amongst various Heavy Metal Magazine and other artworks. Possibly there were more realistic depictions of the character of the years but I love this one because it's very nostalgic for me.

2023.06.04 18:14 TheNewAnonima234 Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse (3 Theories)(Spoilers)

One of my biggest take aways from watching part 1 of this movie is that there is some other conflict between Miguel O'Hara and Miles Morales, besides what was directly mentioned in the film. To me, there was no reason for the first thing Miguel does to Miles to be to throw some entity at his head upon their first meeting, after he, and the rest of the spider people, left him (Miles) in the dark about everything. It seemed too personal, and the words he used against him were downright cruel at times, so much so that it shouldn't be a wonder that Miles reacted to them the way he did. Thus, I set out to try and figure out the potential reasons for this personal vendetta Miguel has against Miles. The following are my theories to try and eplain that.
Theory 1: Miles Morales killed Miguel O'Hara's counter part in another universe.
In the movie, Miguel mentions that why he feels so strongly about the "common" events playing out is because he had caused the collapse of an entire universe, or at least the erasure of multiple people within that universe (including those he loved), due to living in the wrong one. And the only reason he had the ability to live in the 'wrong' universe was because there was an opening where his alter had died.
It would not surprise me that, in order to avoid self blame, Miguel would take his frustrations out on whoever caused the death of his alter, allowing him the opportunity to make that mistake. And with how much he hates Miles, I think it would be safe to say that it would be a safe bet.
Theory 2: Miguel O'Hara's counter parts' death, in the other universe, was directly related to the stealing of the spider which gave Miles his powers.
This theory goes hand in hand with the first. It operates under the same assumption that Miguel hates whoever gave him the opportunity to take his alter's place. However, in this version, Earth 1610 Miles did not directly kill Miguel's Alter.
No, in this version it starts that the world in which Miguel went to also didn't have a Spider Man. And that is because....the spider which would've created the Spider Man (or Woman)(or Pig) (or T-Rex)...so on and so forth...got sent to another universe to..you guessed it...Miles Morales. And it was that lack of having a Spider Man, that got Miguel's counterpart killed.
And I will admit that this theory may not check out...depending on if Miguel's actions completely wiped out the universe he went to or just some of the people (again...including the onese he loved) until he left. If it is the former, then it could not have been due to our version of Miles because then Earth 67 would no longer exist. It could, however, have gone to another other version of Miles. However, if that universe, and Earth 67, hadn't gotten wiped out from Miguel's actions, then maybe that was the actual universe he had gone to. And perhaps a stranger or even Miles's Prowler had even been the one to kill the non-powered Miguel, assuming Miguel's counterpart had no powers and wasn't a spider himself.
Theory 3: Miguel O'Hara isn't Miguel O'Hara.
This is going to be a wild one, so hang with me. I knew nothing about this character (Miguel O'Hara) prior to seeing the movie last night, and only researched the comic book back story this morning, which is why I just came up with this. If this is true, it's going to be completely wild. To explain why I have this theory let me state some facts and observations, and my thoughts regarding both.
Fact #1: In the comics, Miguel O'Hara is Irish-Mexican and the version from the movie looks nothing like the form in the comics.
Thoughts on Fact #1: This may be another example of "race swapping" where it is done to show more diversity. However, I don't quite see the point when the character is already diverse and it has nothing to do with a live action being more inclusive casting wise. Thus, there has to be another reason why the character looks different.
Fact #2: In the movie, Miguel said that Miles was an anomaly, and "not a true Spider Man" because the spider he got bitten by wasn't even from his own universe.
Thoughts on Fact #2: It seems odd that the movie would stress this because in the actual comics Miguel himself was not bitten by a spider, he was given some oral concoction at a genetics research place to give him his powers.
Fact #3: Miguel got the Sinister Strange storyline in this movie.
Thoughts on Fact #3: Simply put they did everything to make him, Miguel, seem more similar to other Superheroes than to Spider Man....so much so, that even Miles says, "Are you sure your a Spider Man?"....Was this a deliberate choice?
Fact #4: Miles says, "Are you sure your a Spider Man?"
Thoughts on Fact #4: I know I just covered this one, but I also put it here separately because of the things that this line caused me to observe.
One, and I might've missed it but, I do not believe I ever saw Miguel outside of the beginning scene with Spider Gwen. And his web was red, which distinguishes it from almost all other, if not all other spider webs. Thus, to me it looks like webs are a) not his default and b)look more manufactured (non natural) than the typical webs.
Two, the claws. Most Spider Men, Women, and creatures do not have those. Almost like it isn't a stereotypical trait of Spider People. There is a character that those...are...stereotypical too. But, before I get ahead of myself, let me go on to three.
Three, the antagonization of Miles....I know I already addressed this in my first two theories, but one thing that sort of sums this all up is that it would seem really odd to me that one spider man would hate another so much. It almost seems like the mindset/actions of a villian or foe. Because who else would not just hate, but hope to isolate the person being hated on from their rightful peers than a foe? And what better foe, then...Prowler.
Don't believe me. Which other villiam had multiple cameos in the movie, where the cameos had lines, and not just verbal references to them. Prowler! There was: 616's Prowler, played by David Glover, and the alternate Miles Morales in Earth 67. And guess what is a common trait of Prowlers'...claws. I rest my case. Miguel O'Hara is a Prowler...not a Spider Man.

2023.06.04 18:12 The_Silver_Avenger Letter from the Showrunner for Doctor Who Magazine #591: How much thought goes into the name of an episode? An awful lot, as Russell T Davies explains... [Spoilers]

What's this?: Each month in Doctor Who Magazine they have a 'Letter from the Showrunner' (formerly called 'Production Notes') - a column by someone involved in the production of Doctor Who, and normally in the form of either the showrunner answering reader-submitted questions, or the showrunner writing pieces about writing Doctor Who. Because these questions have often been used as a source for blogs to write misleading stories, they started being typed up for /gallifrey.
Hey thanks for doing this! Now I don't have to buy it: Yes you do, otherwise you'll be missing out on: results from the Fifth and Sixth Doctor sections of the 60th Anniversary poll; interviews with Alex Kingston (River Song), Alex Moore (location manager on the new series) and Jamie Mathieson (writer of Oxygen, Flatline and others); a feature celebrating Pride Month by looking at representation in Doctor Who; Scott Handcock's Production Diary for April 2023; the latest entry in the '60 Object, 60 Years' series, covering objects from 1988 to 1992; part one a deconstruction of "The Wheel in Space"; part eight of DWM's Fourteenth Doctor comic-strip "Liberation of the Daleks"; reviews for all of this month's DVD/CD/Book releases and EVEN MORE.
It's available physically in shops and digitally via Pocketmags.com!

Titles!
At last we have episode titles!
Ages ago, about 18 months back, we said, wouldn't it be great if we could announce the titles for the first time on BBC One? These things used to appear in Doctor Who Magazine, but what if we could make the event big enough to merit a televised launch? Oh, the nerve. The ambition!
I then forgot about it. Busy, y'know. Then mid-April, I said, hey, what happened to that idea? Did we miss it? What a shame. Sad face. No, said Julie Gardner, you idiot, angry face, people have been working on it for months! They're unveiling it next week.
Lo and behold, fanfare and fireworks, a whole campaign by the BBC was unfurled before us, a wonderful piece of work, with three separate teaser-trailers airing for a fortnight, across May, aiming for a climax on Eurovision night, one of the BBC's biggest audiences of the year. Okay. Lovely. Thank you.
You'll have seen them by now, but I'm typing on Tuesday 9 May, when we've only got as far as the Special Two tease. Apparently, the team thought the first teaser was solved too easily (although maybe the Meep was a very big clue) so the second has been revamped to maximum levels of difficulty. I'm told, in a document I have here, that just underneath the word REDACTED, the code 7A89B8 corresponds to "the HEX code for Wild Blue Yonder colour." (The what now?) And the clues lead to an MP3 of the song. Has anyone solved that yet?!
But you're Doctor Who fans! You don't want to know titles. You want to know working titles.
Well, for Special One, we didn't have much choice, really. We can talk later in the year about the whys and wherefores of using that story, and how much we've changed in its adaptation from a classic old Marvel comic strip by Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons. In fact, you'll be able to hear from Pat and Dave themselves, both fully consulted professionally and on-board with the production right from the start.
But it's not that easy. Should we call it... Star Beast?
Or The Star Beast?
I'm still not sure. It might change by November.
Sometimes I like an old-fashioned definite article. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I invent one (I always refer to The Pyramids of Mars, but no, turns out, I've added that first word).
Special Two is trickier. And I can't give away too much. There's a different five-word title which sums up the episode but that would give the game away right from the start. You'd see it in Radio Times and think, ah, right, gotcha. So that was never a working title and I opted for Wild Blue Yonder right from the start.
But it's not that easy. Should we call it...
Wild Blue Yonder?
Or Wide Blue Yonder?
Because an awful lot of people say wide. The phrase has genuinely changed into 'wide blue yonder' over the years. I emailed the entire team, 'Which do you say?' And most came back with wide, not even knowing about the wild option.
But that debate actually gets on screen, within the episode itself. Here it is, faithful reader. Explained in real, actual dialogue from Special Two. Someone names the tune as Wide Blue Yonder, and says that it comes form "... the military, going to war." And the Doctor corrects them, saying, "It's the air force, the words are Wild Blue Yonder."
Ah, but why does the song play? And what is its terrible portent? You'll have to wait and see!
(Message to self. Write an episode called Terrible Portent.)
And Special Three? Well, nothing to report. The Giggle is The Giggle. From the moment I wrote it, there was no other choice. Love that title. But what is the giggle, who's giggling, what about, and why? As the great man once said, stay tuned.
The hunt for new titles goes on. Like I said last time, Episode One of the next series has a title unexpectedly spoken aloud in Star Trek: Picard 3. Another episode has had three titles so far, and still hasn't quite settled. One title contained the word sixpence, until the entire plot about the sixpence was cut, damn it. And further than that, the Script and Legal Departments at Bad Wolf are currently investigating whether we're allowed to use a certain title for Episode Six of the 2025 season. We're that far ahead!
But yeah, it's a nice, cheeky promotion, to get the titles broadcast on BBC One, a full six months ahead of transmission. But this is where these facts really belong, here in the hearts and minds of fandom, where we can browse and debate and argue over these facts for the rest of our lives. In the magazine that once went under the name of Doctor Who Weekly. And then Doctor Who - A Marvel Monthly. And then Doctor Who Monthly. And now... this!
Onwards!
