2023.05.26 08:17 Cdino699_ Feeling guilty/dumb
Hello Redditors,
So I’m a 24 (m) that’s come from a family with multiple generations of men fighting in war, and I’m the one guy in the last 3 generations to not be in the military. I feel this sense of guilt for not joining, and not having to go through the hardships my dad and grandparents went through. I feel like this is really dumb to loathe about, and as much as I’m grateful I wish I would’ve joined so I could’ve fought in a war so I can relate and share those experiences.
Hearing the stories my dad has told me from when he was in the war, I’ve constantly felt guilty for not joining. Even though he’s always been adamant on me getting an education rather than joining the military. Knowing he’s suffered and gone through so much I feel like I need to experience something similar so he doesn’t feel alone when talking about to me.
I hope this doesn’t come off disrespectful to any veterans or anyone who’s lost someone due to a war. I just want to see if anyone may share a similar situation with me or if I’m being dumb for people to tell me I’m being dumb.
I’m thankful for any and all feedback about this topic and hope it doesn’t come off or rub people the wrong way.

2023.05.26 07:10 RipImpressive7672 school recommendations
Hello! I'm M, a 16-year-old student currently in grade 9. I'm planning to find a school in Metro Manila for my grade 10 to senior high years. I'm specifically looking for a school that encourages self-expression, allowing me to grow my hair, have piercings, and express myself freely. Additionally, I'm passionate about pursuing a career in music-making, so I'm hoping to find a school that can support and provide opportunities in that field. The price of the tuition fee doesn't matter to me; I'm mainly focused on finding a school that aligns with my self-expression and career goals. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The movie stars Emma Stone in the lead role and features an ensemble cast that includes Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, and Stanley Tucci. Set in a high school, "Easy A" takes a satirical and humorous look at the impact of rumors, the power of perception, and the search for identity in the age of social media. With its clever writing, strong performances, and thought-provoking themes, "Easy A" has earned a special place in the hearts of audiences and critics alike. Plot Summary "Easy A" follows the story of Olive Penderghast (Emma Stone), a high school student who finds herself caught up in a web of lies and rumors after a simple white lie spirals out of control. In an attempt to help her best friend, Olive fabricates a story about losing her virginity, which is overheard by the conservative and judgmental Marianne Bryant (Amanda Bynes). Word quickly spreads around the school, and Olive becomes the subject of both admiration and condemnation. Rather than denying the rumors, Olive embraces her newfound notoriety and decides to play the role of the school's resident "scarlet woman." Inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel "The Scarlet Letter," she sews a red "A" onto her clothing, signifying her acceptance of the rumors and her defiance against the double standards that exist in society. As Olive continues to perpetuate the rumors about her promiscuity, she finds herself in increasingly complex situations. She agrees to help various male classmates enhance their own social status by pretending to have sexual encounters with them. However, Olive's actions soon have unforeseen consequences, leading to complications in her relationships with her friends, family, and love interest, Todd (Penn Badgley). Themes Explored Rumors and Perception: "Easy A" explores how rumors can quickly spread and shape one's reputation, sometimes irrespective of the truth. The film highlights the damaging effects of gossip and the importance of critically examining information before passing judgment. Double Standards: The movie critiques the prevailing double standards in society regarding sexual behavior, especially when it comes to women. Olive's decision to embrace her "scarlet letter" challenges these double standards and encourages viewers to question societal norms. Identity and Authenticity: Olive's journey in "Easy A" revolves around her struggle to define her own identity amidst the pressure to conform to societal expectations. The film emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and finding the courage to defy expectations. Family Dynamics: The Penderghast family, including Olive's quirky parents (played by Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson), provides comic relief while also portraying the importance of open communication and unconditional love within a family unit. Redemption and Forgiveness: Olive's actions throughout the film lead to self-reflection and personal growth. "Easy A" ultimately promotes the idea that people can change and that forgiveness is possible, even in the face of public scrutiny. Impact and Critical Reception "Easy A" received widespread critical acclaim upon its release, with particular praise directed toward Emma Stone's performance and the film's sharp dialogue. The movie achieved both commercial success and cultural significance, becoming a cult favorite and resonating with audiences, especially teenagers, due to its relatable themes and witty script. With its satirical take on high school life and its exploration of contemporary issues, "Easy A" has been praised for its intelligent social commentary. It continues to be celebrated as a modern classic within the teen comedy genre, often mentioned alongside films like "Clueless" and "Mean Girls." "Easy A" is a clever and entertaining film that delves into the complexities of high school life, the impact of rumors, and the quest for identity. Through its witty dialogue, stellar performances, and thoughtful exploration of relevant themes, the movie has left a lasting impression on audiences. "Easy A" reminds us of the power of perception and the importance of staying true to oneself, making it a must-watch for anyone seeking a humorous and insightful commentary on teenage life. The positive or negative side of the movies Positive Aspects Powerful Social Commentary: "Easy A" effectively explores the impact of rumors and the power of perception in a high school setting. By satirizing and critiquing societal norms and double standards, the film prompts viewers to reflect on the damaging effects of gossip and the importance of authenticity. Engaging and Witty Writing: The film's screenplay, penned by Bert V. Royal, is lauded for its sharp and humorous dialogue. The script's clever references to Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" add depth and literary nuance to the narrative, appealing to audiences who appreciate intelligent humor. Strong Performances: Emma Stone's portrayal of Olive Penderghast is widely regarded as one of her breakout performances. Stone brings charisma and depth to the character, effectively conveying Olive's journey of self-discovery and growth. The supporting cast, including Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, and Stanley Tucci, deliver solid performances that complement Stone's lead. Promoting Individuality and Self-Acceptance: "Easy A" encourages viewers to embrace their true selves and challenge societal expectations. Olive's decision to defy the imposed labels and double standards resonates with audiences, providing a positive message about the importance of self-acceptance and authenticity. Negative Aspects Unrealistic Portrayal of High School: While "Easy A" presents an entertaining and satirical view of high school life, some critics argue that it tends to romanticize or oversimplify the complexities and challenges faced by teenagers. The movie's exaggerated depiction of social dynamics and the ease with which rumors spread may create unrealistic expectations or misrepresent the real experiences of high school students. Reinforcement of Stereotypes: Despite its intention to criticize societal norms, "Easy A" still relies on certain stereotypes. For example, Olive's parents are portrayed as eccentric and liberal, perpetuating the notion that non-traditional families are inherently unconventional. Additionally, the film portrays some characters in a one-dimensional manner, relying on familiar archetypes of jocks, nerds, and religious zealots. Trivializing Serious Issues: While the movie attempts to address significant themes, it can sometimes gloss over the weightier aspects of these issues. For instance, the consequences of Olive's actions and the potential emotional impact on the individuals involved are often downplayed in favor of comedic moments. Perpetuation of Sexuality as Currency: "Easy A" explores the theme of sexuality within the context of rumors and identity. However, some critics argue that the film inadvertently reinforces the idea that a person's sexual experiences or reputation can be used as a means of gaining popularity or status, potentially trivializing the complexities of human relationships and emotions. Conclusion "Easy A," directed by Will Gluck and released in 2010, has made a significant impact as a coming-of-age comedy-drama film. Throughout this analysis, we have explored both the positive and negative aspects of the movie, providing a comprehensive understanding of its impact on audiences. On the positive side, "Easy A" offers powerful social commentary by examining the influence of rumors and the power of perception in a high school setting. The film's satirical approach effectively critiques societal norms and double standards, encouraging viewers to reflect on the damaging effects of gossip and the importance of authenticity. The engaging and witty writing, along with strong performances from Emma Stone and the supporting cast, contribute to the film's appeal and effectiveness in conveying its messages. "Easy A" also promotes individuality and self-acceptance, encouraging audiences to embrace their true selves and challenge societal expectations. However, it is crucial to acknowledge the negative aspects of the movie as well. Some critics argue that "Easy A" presents an unrealistic portrayal of high school life, potentially romanticizing or oversimplifying the experiences of teenagers. Additionally, the film relies on certain stereotypes and may trivialize serious issues by downplaying the consequences of characters' actions. There are concerns about the unintentional reinforcement of the idea that sexuality can be used as currency, potentially oversimplifying the complexities of human relationships and emotions. In conclusion, "Easy A" has made a notable impact with its blend of social commentary, intelligent humor, and strong performances. It succeeds in delivering a positive message about individuality and self-acceptance, prompting viewers to challenge societal norms and embrace authenticity. However, the film also has aspects that can be viewed as problematic, including an unrealistic portrayal of high school life, reinforcement of stereotypes, and potential trivialization of serious issues. Engaging in critical discussions about the movie's strengths and weaknesses is essential for a comprehensive understanding of its impact on audiences and society as a whole. submitted by vikkingss to u/vikkingss [link] [comments] |

What are your thoughts on it, how it’s treated you, and how many miles on yours?
Was wondering what I should look out for maintenance-wise. Mines at 128k, just had the headgaskets done (along with what usually comes with it… e.g. timing belt, spark plugs). Tomorrow I’m installing a new head unit with CarPlay.
Pre-purchase-inspection from Subaru dealership showed a yellow tick for battery, which was odd since it had a record of it being replaced 5 months ago. Looking at a potentially faulty battery or a bad alternator. Had it checked out today and the alternator showed a voltage of 12. Has been starting without any issues and there’s no battery light on the dash, so I’m waiting on my OBD reader this weekend to run some tests and maybe get a second opinion.

2023.05.26 04:32 Traditional_Paint_55 My neighbor cant care/ doesn’t care for her dog
I moved into a trailer park and have only been here since the first of may. I have my own German shepherd who I take care of good enough while living the trailer lifestyle. We are always on the road and working and he’s always with me. I always have time to wash him bathe him and exercise him plus his size doesn’t matter much as I have a large 5th wheel I just wanted to bring this out to point out that living in a trailer isn’t an excuse to not care properly for a dog since I have been here almost every day my neighbors dog gets out. The first time I seen it happen was the only time I saw the owner attempting to get her dog. Her dog looks like a female husky/ German shepherd breed and I’ve never seen her wearing a collar and the owner was a very old lady. I watched as she couldn’t even get close enough to attempt to catch her dog as she ran cut across our yard trying to catch her. I eventually myself got dressed and tried to lure the dog back home with my own once I saw the lady gave up and went back home leaving the dog out. The dog refused to get in the cage but didn’t seem scared of me of my dog just seemed playful and wanting to run around. Since then almost every day now I see the dog out but rarely see it back in its cage.I even witnessed the Manager Of the park trying to get it back in its cage I started getting to thinking of why this dog doesn’t want to go home and I took a good look at the property and noticed the trailer isn’t even big enough for more then a bed for the lady herself so the dog of course never comes in. It’s summer and it’s hot I just seen the dog again and it looks like it’s been blowing it’s coat out for the summer. The manager informed me that he always sees the dog out and that the lady isn’t capable of keeping track of it and doesn’t want to get to the point where he calls animal control but doesn’t want it to get hit by a car either since our park is next to a highway. I’m posting this on finding advice on what to do cause Idk if I’m over reacting but I think the dog deserved better and idk what steps to take or how to help the dog cause every time I try to go near it, it thinks I’m trying to capture it and dodges me

2023.05.26 03:58 Brokie__ I think I have a mental / father issue but I can't believe it or accept it myself?
I (16f) have had what you consider a highly privileged life with both parents in my life physically. I have a good bond with my mother but struggle to be around my father and many others for long periods of time. This has been an occurring issue since I was, about 11 I believe. When I was younger, my father would lash out about minor things. He still does. This was to the point that he kicked me out once in response to an issue regarding an open window. My mother had I guess, stopped him from completely kicking me out. (For further notice, I am a first gen Carribean-American, if that's how it is correctly classified.) He would constantly put down any form of struggle I reveal to my parents due to his harsh upbringing. At one point he said that it was only him in this world and me and my mother did not matter since we could betray him at any moment out of anger. Over the years in response, I have developed a pattern in which when he or any person visits I habitually shut myself away in my room for the duration of their visit, with the exception of getting food and basic greetings. This behavior has also reflected in my contact with others in which I would go months at a time -if able- without contacting anyone. (I still continue to do this) It has also made me fear going out with people due to the thought I may mess something up and have them lash out. I also struggled with maintaining intimate relationships due to these factors and additional insecurities as well. I guess in that regard I am a major introvert? As a result of my lack of contact, my father expresses his disappointment to my mother regarding me not talking to him. (I am not a person who usually contacts first, especially in his case.) My mother tells me this and I explain to her what I am now telling you all and she encourages me to try and act normally around him. She then continues to tell me what good things he has done for me over the years and explain that many people don't even have a present father in their lives or ones that care as much as him. (He is usually on top of many things relating to me academically wise I believe [?]) Many other family members who hear this situation also tell me this. I should probably add for reference that he does not live with me and my mother. My extended family also suggest that since he was not here to see me "grow up" that he may not understand why I am this way. I try to empathize with them all and sometimes try to take their advice. (Eventually he lashes out and I revert.) But, I believe no matter how much I try I can't change how I act. To them I used to be this girl who would constantly ask questions and speak but now I'm constantly holed up in my room and waiting for my house to be empty with just me and my mother at every guest visit. I admit I am like this, but I can't seem to change this part no matter how much I attempt. Recently, I have been looking into certain mental health disorders relating to these , concerns (?) and they have chalked up to being social anxiety or avoidant personality disorder. While the general conditions match up, I can't seem to accept that I may have this issue due to the idea of mine that I lived too good of a life for it. I want to see a therapist but I don't want to worry anyone or have any rumors spread around my family thinking I have gone mad, so I'll probably visit one when I leave my mother's house. On top of a this, I have recently discovered that I'm bisexual (at 13, I don't think that's recent now actually) so I have an increased concern regarding being honest with my family and being my "true self". I'm sure my mother realized by now but she's probably waiting for me to say it myself. A lot of these issues that I suspect I have, I'll test for or discuss them when I'm older with a personally selected therapist for ensured privacy and discuss with my parents when I can ensure that I'll be able to handle myself regardless of their reactions.
*If you've read this rant, thank you it's my first time doing something like this and I don't really vent so I turned here to speak rather than burdening a friend. ( If I may be in the wrong in some form please tell me, I want to get better. If that is the right way to put it)

2023.05.26 03:08 Proletlariet Staten Island Vamps Saved
"It's like the old adage, you know. Co-workers die, vampire roommates...they're forever." Overview: Three centuries-old vampires named Nandor Laszlo, and Nadja immigrated to the United States over 50 years ago, arriving in Staten Island where they decided to make their home. They came to inhabit a house with an energy vampire known as Collin Robinson, and together the 4 lived as housemates with various familiars over the years.
Powers: Vampires enjoy an abundance of physical prowess and otherworldy abilities. Most can fly, transform into animals or mist, hypnotize humans and animals, and enjoy centuries of continued existence sustained by the blood of humans.
Limitations: Vampires require human blood to maintain their full strength. They are harmed by sunlight and religious symbolism or phrases. They cannot enter buildings without invitation, they do not have reflections, and human food causes them to violently projectile vomit.
"They would call me Nandor the Relentless because I would never relent." Born in 1262, Nandor was a soldier for the Ottoman Empire before coming to lead the now-dissolved nation of Al Quolanudar. He had many wives and created an infamous reputation for pillaging and destroying villages. Eventually he became a vampire and was driven from his country, coming to inhabit the United Sates in the modern day.
He now considers himself the leader of the Staten Island vampires and often calls house meetings to maintain order. Over the past 10 years he developed a close relationship with his familiar Guillermo de la Cruz who also occupies the house.
Strength Durability Flight Transformation Hypnosis Skill Misc. Powers/Limitations "Why on Earth would you do that? Why would you walk home when you could turn into a bat? BAT!" Born in England and considered the most handsome man in a village afflicted with leprosy, Laszlo became a vampire when a beautiful woman visited his 3rd story window in the middle of the night. That woman was Nadja, and after turning him the two entered a wild love affair that lasts for centuries.
Laszlo's many creative endeavors led to him inadvertently writing several hit songs like "Come on Eileen" and becoming a prolific porn actor. Through it all he remains with Nadja who often assists in getting him out of trouble when he needs it most.
Strength Durability Speed Flight Hypnosis Transformation Misc. Powers "Do you remember that first time we made love? It was so passionate, I accidentally cut off your head." Nadja made a meager living as a throat singer after being born into a village suffering centuries of famine and poverty. While singing to the snakes one night a serpent transformed into a vampire and bit her on the neck, turning her into a creature of the dark. Nadja was then chased from her village by the villagers and her own family.
Sometime after marrying Laszlo the two were driven from Europe due to anti-vampire prejudice and arrived in the United States. Nadja supported Laszlo in many of his creative endeavors and over the years maintained an on again/off again relationship with the reincarnated spirit of her past lover Gregor.
Strength Durability Speed Flight Climbing Transformation Hypnosis Misc. Powers/Limitations "When it comes to zoning ordinances, I have a few thoughts." Though his origins remain a mystery, the energy vampire Collin Robinson "came with" the Staten Island house when the other vampires moved in. Able to walk freely in the sunlight and capable of blending in more effectively than his fellows, Collin works a bland office job that serves as a fertile feeding ground.
Collin sustains himself by draining the energy of others through boredom, frustration, and annoyance. Though he most often feeds off coworkers, roommates, and those he trolls online he occasionally ventures out to city council meetings or places of worship. Despite often aggravating them he considers his housemates friends and has come to their assistance and multiple occasions.
Energy Draining - Explains how energy vampirism works, allowing him to drain energy through boring or frustrating others (even other vampires) and granting him exception to vampire's vulnerability to sunlight
- Nearly puts two teenagers to sleep, with Nandor saying the teens are drained of their nutritional value
- Refers to annoying an entire city council meeting as a "megafeed"
- Feeds off the discomfort of a man going crazy in public and intimates he is erect
- Drains a coworker so they start to fall asleep, then gets excited at a new hire because their energy might be "fresh"
- Duels Eve Russel, another energy vampire, and both float into the air as their duel flickers the lights
- Informs the other vampires that he is feeding on them
- Drains the others while they are trapped at the bottom of a well, and again when they are bats
- Feeds off energy from a couple's argument
- Drains a room of people watching TV, though they seem to regain strength soon after he is interrupted
- Eventually puts everyone in a room to sleep, and "overdid it" on one man, causing him to piss himself
- Drains people through the internet by trolling them
- When faced with a dangerous troll Collin bores it near to sleep until daybreak so it would turn into a statue, although it does manage to lunge out and grab him at the last moment
Misc. Info/Limitations Promotion-empowered For a brief period Collin was promoted to a managerial position in his company, offering him an unprecedented ability to feed on the energy of others. This amplified his abilities and granted him wholly unique powers until the company when bankrupt once everyone was too drained to do any work. - Gains energy from laughter at his jokes during a presentation everyone is forced to listen to
- Drains a conference room and says he feels he has the power of 1,000 cowboys, then smashes a metallic trashcan flat
- Levitates a painting into the air
- Becomes "something new" when overfed, increasing his power so that he grows back his hair, drains people instantly with a phrase, finger guns, or a nod, instantly kills plants with a gesture, and can telekinetically rocket someone into a wall hard enough to dent it
- Turns the house against eachother, performing a "megadrain" that leaves them almost paralyzes, and also develops the ability to fly which he uses to swim through the air
- Drains the other vampires so severely it advances their age and nearly kills them
- Drinks with just his mind, and then refills the bottle
- Triplicates himself to block off Guillermo's exit, and then fakes his own death...although the death of his triplicates is apparently real

hi everyone, i’m trying to get myself out in social settings more often and work on my social skills but i have no idea where to start. i grew up depressed and without friends,so i haven’t gotten a lot of practice speaking to others casually in the past 10 years or so. i have a fiancé who describes me as funny and interesting. when we go to a social event or even just visiting his family, i just sit there and don’t contribute. my mind goes blank, the topics change too fast, or someone else is talking louder than me so i don’t have a chance to say what i’m thinking (if there’s something there). how do i just get myself out there and talk to people casually? it makes me feel so bad about myself that i can’t connect with anybody :( any advice is appreciated!

2023.05.26 02:57 Cute_Confidence_9964 Anyone Sharing Blueprints/Plans for Link's House in Tarrytown?
I've been playing a lot with the house building mechanic for Link's house in Tarrytown and haven't seen anyone share their blueprint ideas for houses yet!
Only being able to use 15 pods in a limited area hinders the building but it's still fun. Does anyone have good house plans that utilizes all the equipment pods (3 shield, 3 weapons, and 3 bows)? I've tried to make something nice and enclosed with all equipment, a shrine, and the kitchen with little success. Utilizing all these pods only leaves room for 4 connecting pieces. I wish they would up the 15 limit to something higher.
Here's my first floor plan with 3 equipment rooms, shrine, kitchen, and stable. Even then, I had to have a grass interior on the first floor. I placed the shrine and kitchen facing out for easy access when fast traveling back to do some cooking during blood moons. However, I want all the equipment rooms.

2023.05.26 02:06 Copingbadly I just found out my mom may have cancer....
I don't even know what to write, tbh. I'm just... I'm not handling it well. We are still waiting on the official test results but the doctor is pretty certain.
I'm really grateful I don't live with her anymore because the last thing she needs right now is me being overwhelmingly emotional. (Please dont confuse this with me not supporting her or being there for her; that's not the case. She just is not an overly emotional person and doesn't deal with others' emotions well and prefers not to in the first place.)
I've been crying off and on all day since I found out. She's one of those people who prefers not to make a big deal out of things, even so much as to not really want to celebrate mother's day or her birthday. So we (my siblings and I) are trying to respect that in the family chat and act relatively normal. But it's freaking HARD and I'm careening uncontrollably between sobbing and trying to act normal in front of my dad (who she doesn't want to know {they are not together}), and feeling guilty for acting normal, but also guilty for crying.
I'm just.... SHE'S the one with the potential diagnosis; who am I to be crying so much? But also, she's my MOM. So shouldn't I be allowed to cry and feel miserable and just want to sleep it away? But also i feel horrible when I distract myself and forget, because my freaking MOM may have CANCER. Why am I smiling and laughing at YouTube like it's a normal day?? (For the record, no one but my anxiety/depression is saying these things.)
Anyways, I'm just.... It's a lot. And I'm having a hard time. I don't know what to do. I'm scared. I'm freaking out. There's a chance it could be nothing, there's a chance they may be able to remove it all, but this is my MOM. She's always been a rock; consistent in my life. She's human and gets sick and stuff, yeah but just UGH. Why her??? She doesn't deserve this!!?
My brain is all over the place and I don't know what to do with any of my feelings and I just needed to get this out before I explode.
Thank you for your time if you've gotten this far. I'm sorry if I impacted or ruined your mood in any way;;;
